The Aasivik terrane is a ∼1500 km2 complex of gneisses dominated by ∼3600 Ma components, which has been discovered in the Archaean craton of West Greenland, ∼20–50 km south of the Paleoproterozoic Nagssugtoqidian orogen. The Aasivik terrain comprises granulite facies tonalitic to granitic gneisses with bands of mafic granulite, which include disrupted mafic dykes. Four gneiss samples of the Aasivik terrain have given imprecise SHRIMP U–Pb zircon ages of 3550–3780 Ma with strong loss of radiogenic lead and new growth of zircon probably associated with a granulite facies metamorphic event(s) at ∼2800–2700 Ma. To the Southeast, the Aasivik terrane is in tectonic contact with a late Archaean complex of granitic and metapelitic gneisses with apparently randomly distributed mafic and ultramafic units, here named the Ukaleq gneiss complex. Two granitic samples from the Ukaleq gneiss complex have U–Pb zircon ages of 2817 ± 10 and 2820 ± 12 Ma and tzircon εNd values of 2.3–5.4. Given their composition and positive εNd values, they probably represent melts of only slightly older juvenile crust. A reconnaissance SHRIMP U–Pb study of a sample of metasedimentary rock from the Ukaleq gneiss complex found ∼2750–2900 Ma zircons of probable detrital origin and that two or more generations of 2700–2500 Ma metamorphic zircons are present. This gneiss complex is provisionally interpreted as a late Archaean accretionary wedge. A sample of banded granulite facies gneiss from a complex of banded gneisses south of the Aasivik terrain here named the Tasersiaq gneiss complex has yielded two zircon populations of 3212 ± 11 and 3127 ± 12 Ma. Contacts between the three gneiss complexes are mylonites which are locally cut by late-post-kinematic granite veins with SHRIMP U–Pb zircon ages of ∼2700 Ma. The isotopic character and the relationships between the lithologies from the different gneiss complexes suggest the assembly of unrelated rocks along shear zones between 2800 and 2700 Ma. The collage of Archaean gneiss complexes were intruded by A-type granites, here named the Umiatsiaasat granites, at ∼2700 Ma, later than the tectonic intercalation of the gneiss complexes.  相似文献

Zircon formation and modification during magmatic crystallization and high-grade metamorphism are explored using TIMS and LA-ICP-MS U–Pb geochronology, Lu–Hf isotope chemistry, trace element analysis and textural clues on zircons from the Koraput alkaline intrusion, Eastern Ghats Belt (EGB), India. The zircon host-rock is a granulite-facies nepheline syenite gneiss with an exceptionally low Zr concentration, prohibiting early magmatic Zr saturation. With zircon formation occurring at a late stage of advanced magmatic cooling, significant amounts of Zr were incorporated into biotite, nearly the only other Zr-bearing phase in the nepheline syenite gneisses. Investigated zircons experienced a multi-stage history of magmatic and metamorphic zircon growth with repeated solid-state recrystallization and partial dissolution–precipitation. These processes are recorded by complex patterns of internal zircon structures and a wide range of apparently concordant U–Pb ages between 869 ± 7 Ma and 690 ± 1 Ma. The oldest ages are interpreted to represent the timing of the emplacement of the Koraput alkaline complex, which significantly postdates the intrusion ages of most of the alkaline intrusion in the western EGB. However, Hf model ages of TDM = 1.5 to 1.0 Ga suggest an earlier separation of the nepheline syenite magma from its depleted mantle source, overlapping with the widespread Mesoproterozoic, rift-related alkaline magmatism in the EGB. Zircons yielding ages younger than 860 Ma have most probably experienced partial resetting of their U–Pb ages during repeated and variable recrystallization events. Consistent youngest LA-ICP-MS and CA-TIMS U–Pb ages of 700–690 Ma reflect a final pulse of high-grade metamorphism in the Koraput area and underline the recurrence of considerable orogenic activity in the western EGB during the Neoproterozoic. Within the nepheline syenite gneisses this final high-grade metamorphic event caused biotite breakdown, releasing sufficient Zr for local saturation and new subsolidus zircon growth along the biotite grain boundaries.  相似文献

The geodynamic evolution of the early Paleozoic ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt in North Qaidam, western China, is controversial due to ambiguous interpretations concerning the nature and ages of the eclogitic protoliths. Within this framework, we present new LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon ages from eclogites and their country rock gneisses from the Xitieshan terrane, located in the central part of the North Qaidam UHP metamorphic belt. Xitieshan terrane contains clearly different protolith characteristics of eclogites and as such provides a natural laboratory to investigate the geodynamic evolution of the North Qaidam UHP metamorphic terrane. LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating of three phengite-bearing eclogites and two country rock gneiss samples from the Xitieshan terrane yielded 424–427 Ma and 917–920 Ma ages, respectively. The age of 424–427 Ma from eclogite probably reflects continental lithosphere subduction post-dating oceanic lithosphere subduction at ~ 440–460 Ma. The 0.91–0.92 Ga metamorphic ages from gneiss and associated metamorphic mineral assemblages are interpreted as evidence for the occurrence of a Grenville-age orogeny in the North Qaidam UHPM belt. Using internal microstructure, geochemistry and U–Pb ages of zircon in this study, combined with the petrological and geochemical investigations on the eclogites of previous literature’s data, three types of eclogitic protoliths are identified in the Xitieshan terrane i.e. 1) Subducted early Paleozoic oceanic crust (440–460 Ma), 2) Neoproterozoic oceanic crust material emplaced onto micro-continental fragments ahead of the main, early Paleozoic, collision event (440–420 Ma) and 3) Neoproterozoic mafic dikes intruded in continental fragments (rifted away from the former supercontinent Rodinia). These results demonstrate that the basement rocks of the North Qaidam terrane formed part of the former supercontinent Rodinia, attached to the Yangtze Craton and/or the Qinling microcontinent, and recorded a complex tectono-metamorphic evolution that involved Neoproterozoic and Early Paleozoic orogenies.  相似文献

The Paleoproterozoic Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt lies in the Eastern Block of the North China Craton, with its southern segment extending across the Bohai Sea into the Jiaobei massif. High-pressure pelitic and mafic granulites have been recently recognized in the Paleoproterozoic Jingshan Group (Jiaobei massif). New SHRIMP U–Th–Pb geochronology combined with cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging of zircon has been applied to the determination of the timing of the metamorphism of the high-temperature and high-pressure granulites and associated gneisses and marbles. Metamorphic zircons in these high-pressure granulites, gneisses and marbles occur as either single grains or overgrowth (or recrystallization) rims surrounding and truncating oscillatory-zoned magmatic zircon cores. Metamorphic zircons are all characterized by nebulous zoning or being structureless, with high luminescence and relatively low Th/U values. Metamorphic zircons from two high-pressure mafic granulites yielded 207Pb/206Pb ages of 1956 ± 41 Ma and 1884 ± 24 Ma. One metamorphic zircon from a garnet–sillimanite gneiss also gave an apparent 207Pb/206Pb age of 1939 ± 15 Ma. These results are consistent with interval of ages of c. 1.93–1.90 Ga already obtained by previous studies for the North and South Liaohe Groups and the Laoling Group in the northern segment of the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt. Metamorphic zircons from a high-pressure pelitic granulite and two pelitic gneisses yielded weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb ages of 1837 ± 8 Ma, 1821 ± 8 Ma and 1836 ± 8 Ma respectively. Two diopside–olivine–phlogopite marbles yielded weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb ages of 1817 ± 9 Ma and 1790 ± 6 Ma. These Paleoproterozoic metamorphic ages are largely in accordance with metamorphic ages of c. 1.85 Ga produced from the Ji'an Group in the northern segment of the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt and c. 1.86–1.80 Ga obtained for the high-pressure pelitic granulites from the Jingshan Group in the southern segment. As this metamorphic event was coeval with the emplacement of A-type granites in the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt and its adjacent areas, it is interpreted as having resulted from a post-orogenic or anorogenic extensional event.  相似文献

Eclogite is a high-pressure (HP) metamorphic rock that provides important information about the subduction of both continental and oceanic crusts. In this study we present SHRIMP zircon U–Pb isotopic data for a suite of the basement gneisses to investigate the origin of the Proterozoic Bibong eclogite in the Hongseong area, South Korea. Zircon grains from the basement felsic gneisses yielded Paleoproterozoic protolith ages ranging from ca. 2197 to 1880 Ma, and were intruded by syenite at ca. 750 Ma. A HP regional metamorphic event of Triassic age (ca. 255–227 Ma) is recorded in the zircon rims of the country rocks, which is also observed in the zircons from the eclogite. The contacts between the Bibong eclogite and its host rocks support an origin for the Proterozoic protoliths, indicating continental intrusions. The Hongseong area thus preserves evidence for the Triassic collision, indicating a tectonic linkage among the northeast Asian continents.  相似文献

The medium- to high-grade polymetamorphic basement rocks of the Peloritani Mountains, northern Sicily, include large volumes of augen gneiss of controversial age and origin. By means of a geochemical and SHRIMP zircon study of representative samples, the emplacement age of the original granitoid protoliths of the augen gneisses and the most likely processes and sources involved in that granitoid magmatism have been determined. U–Pb dating of three samples from widely spaced localities in the Peloritani Mountains yielded igneous protolith ages of 565 ± 5, 545 ± 4 and 545 ± 4 Ma, respectively. These late Ediacaran/early Cambrian ages are much older than was previously assumed on geological grounds, and are typical of the peri-Gondwanan terranes involved in the geodynamic evolution of the northern Gondwana margin at the end of the Avalonian–Cadomian orogeny. Major and trace element compositions and Sr–Nd isotopic data, in combination with zircon inheritance age patterns, suggest that the granitoid protoliths of the Sicilian and coeval Calabrian augen gneisses were generated by different degrees of mixing between sediment- and mantle-derived magmas. The magmas forming the ca. 545 Ma inheritance-rich granitoids appear to have had a significant contribution from partial melting of paragneiss that is the dominant rock type in the medium- to high-grade Peloritanian basement. The closeness of the inferred deposition age of the greywacke protoliths of the paragneisses with the intrusion age of the granitoids indicates rapid latest Precambrian crustal recycling involving erosion, burial, metamorphism to partial melting conditions, and extensive granitoid magmatism in less than ca. 10 Ma.  相似文献

The Amapá Block, southeastern Guiana Shield, represents an Archean block involved in a large Paleoproterozoic belt, with evolution related to the Transamazonian orogenic cycle (2.26 to 1.95 Ga). High spatial resolution dating using an electron-probe microanalyzer (EPMA) was employed to obtain U–Th–Pb chemical ages in monazite of seven rock samples of the Archean basement from that tectonic block, which underwent granulite- and amphibolite-facies metamorphism. Pb–Pb zircon dating was also performed on one sample.Monazite and zircon ages demonstrate that the metamorphic overprinting of the Archean basement occurred during the Transamazonian orogenesis, and two main tectono-thermal events were recorded. The first one is revealed by monazite ages of 2096 ± 6, 2093 ± 8, 2088 ± 8, 2087 ± 3 and 2086 ± 8 Ma, and by the zircon age of 2091 ± 5 Ma, obtained in granulitic rocks. These concordant ages provided a reliable estimate of the time of the granulite-facies metamorphism in the southwest of the Amapá Block and, coupled with petro-structural data, suggest that it was contemporaneous to the development of a thrusting system associated to the collisional stage of the Transamazonian orogenesis, at about 2.10–2.08 Ga.The later event, under amphibolite-facies conditions, is recorded by monazite ages of 2056 ± 7 and 2038 ± 6 Ma, and is consistent with a post-collisional stage, marked by granite emplacement and coeval migmatization of the Archean basement along strike-slip shear zones.  相似文献

Whole rock major and trace element data from granitoids adjacent to the Kalahari Craton–Mozambique–Maud Belt boundary are described. The data from ~1140 Ma old granodioritic and ~1110 Ma old granitic bodies in the Mozambique Belt show that they are typical of calc-alkaline and A-type granitoids respectively. Radiogenic Rb/Sr and Sm/Nd isotope data from the two granitoid bodies suggest significant older crustal contributions during their genesis. The granodioritic gneisses show TDM model ages of ~2100–3500 Ma whereas megacrystic granitic gneisses have TDM model ages of ~1600–3100 Ma. Granite from the Archaean-age Kalahari Craton has TDM model ages of ~3000–3500 Ma.The data from Mozambique are compared with whole rock major and trace element chemistry and U/Pb zircon SHRIMP data from the Maud Belt in western Dronning Maud Land. These show that ~1140 Ma old granodioritic gneisses in Sverdrupfjella and Kirwanveggan have similar ages and chemical compositions to similar rocks in central Mozambique. Radiogenic isotope characteristics of the gneisses from central Mozambique and Sverdrupfjella are similar and suggest older crustal contributions in contrast to the juvenile nature of the gneisses from Kirwanveggan.Similarly, ~1090 Ma old granitic gneisses from central Mozambique, Sverdrupfjella and Kirwanveggan have similar ages and A-type chemical compositions. In contrast the radiogenic isotope compositions from Kirwanveggan are juvenile whereas those from central Mozambique show a significant older crustal contribution. The whole rock radiogenic isotope data can be interpreted to suggest that the Mesoproterozoic Mozambique Belt rocks were generated by partial melting which probably involved mixing of Archaean/Paleoproterozoic crust and younger Mesoproterozoic juvenile magma at ~1100 Ma and suggest that the Kalahari Craton probably extends eastwards at depths for more than 30 km from its exposure at surface. The data support correlations between the Mozambique Belt and the Maud Belt in Antarctica in general and more specifically show similarities between the Kalahari Craton boundary and the Mozambique–Maud Belt in lithologies immediately adjacent to that boundary. Two episodes of anatectic migmatisation are recognized in rocks from the Mozambique Belt in central Mozambique. These show an earlier migmatitic vein phase oriented parallel to the planar foliation in the granitic and tonalitic gneisses and a later discordant vein phase which is oriented parallel to localized but intense N–S oriented shearing along the Kalahari Craton/Mozambique Belt boundary zone. SHRIMP zircon data from the younger migmatitic vein phase suggests a crystallization age of 997 ± 4 Ma. Small numbers of inherited zircons have ages of ~2700 Ma and ~1100–1200 Ma. Younger discordant analyses suggesting metamorphic disturbance between ~400 Ma and 550 Ma are seen. The data imply the high strain along the eastern margin of the Kalahari Craton in the Manica area, occurred at ~1000 Ma and not at ~450 Ma as was previously thought. The data suggest the Pan African deformation and metamorphism in the area involved minor reworking. The undeformed to weakly deformed Tchinadzandze Granodiorite intruded into the Kalahari Craton has an age of 2617 ± 16 Ma.  相似文献

The Archean lithospheric root of the North China Craton (NCC) has been considerably eroded and modified by Phanerozoic magmatic processes. Here we investigate the decratonization of the NCC through U–Pb and Hf isotopic analyses of zircons from Cenozoic basalts in the Liaodong Peninsula using ion-probe and MC-ICPMS techniques. The U–Pb zircon geochronology identifies three zircon populations: Precambrian, Paleozoic and Mesozoic. The Precambrian zircons yield 207Pb/206Pb ages of 2275–2567 Ma with a peak at around 2.5 Ga. They define a U–Pb discordia with upper intercept ages of 2447 ± 50 Ma to 2556 ± 50 Ma and a wide range of Hf TDM ages with a mode at 2.7–2.8 Ga. Our results clearly demonstrate the presence of an Archean lower crust in the Liaodong region. The Paleozoic zircons from the Liaodong region lack the clear internal zoning and are subhedral to rounded in shape, and yield a narrow 206Pb/238U concordant ages of 419–487 Ma with a weighted mean age of 462 ± 16 Ma. The Mesozoic zircons predominantly show crystallization in the early Cretaceous and yield a relatively large range in 206Pb/238U ages from 100 to 138 Ma (n = 53) with a peak around 120 Ma. Three samples give indistinguishable weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 120 ± 5 Ma, 120 ± 4 Ma and 121 ± 2 Ma. These early Cretaceous zircons have enriched Hf isotope compositions with εHf(t) values from ?26 to ?16. Our results provide important constraints on episodic magmatism during the Phanerozoic in the Liaodong region, which led to substantial reactivation of the Archean basement of the North China Craton.  相似文献

The Danubian domain basement of the South Carpathians, Romania, comprises two Neoproterozoic continental crustal fragments, the Dr?g?an and Lainici-P?iu? terranes, which were sutured by the closure of an intervening oceanic domain, the Ti?ovi?a terrane. Magmatic and detrital zircons extracted from an orthogneiss, four granitoid plutons, two metasedimentary units, and a Liassic sandstone were dated by zircon U/Pb LA-ICP-MS. The F?ge?el augen gneiss from the Dr?g?an terrane basement yielded an age of 803.2 ± 4.4 Ma, the oldest well-constrained crystallization age reported from the Romanian Carpathians basement. The Tismana, ?u?i?a, Novaci and Olte? granitoid plutons, which intrude the Lainici-P?iu? terrane basement, yielded ages of 600.5 ± 4.4, 591.0 ± 3.5, 592.7 ± 4.9, and 588 ± 2.9 Ma, respectively. The Tismana granitoid age of 600 Ma and the youngest detrital zircon ages of 637–622 Ma from a metaquartzite within the Lainici-Paiu? terrane, constrain the deposition of the metaquartzite protolith to ca. 620–600 Ma. The 803 Ma age represents an old Pan-African age, whereas the younger Neoproterozoic ages suggest Pan-African/Cadomian thermotectonic events. Detrital and inherited zircon ages within the Dr?g?an and Lainici-Paiu? terranes attest to a peri-Amazonian, Avalonian-type provenance for the Dr?g?an terrane and possibly a Ganderian-type provenance for the Lainici-P?iu? terrane. The Lainici-P?iu? terrane rifted off Gondwana before the Dr?g?an terrane. Both terranes were attached to Moesia during the Early Paleozoic.  相似文献

The North China Craton (NCC) provides a classic example of lithospheric destruction and refertilization. The timing and duration of magmatism and related metallogenesis associated with the destruction process are pivotal to understanding the geodynamic controls. In this study, we present zircon U–Pb and Hf data, Re–Os ages, and He, Ar, Pb and S isotope data from the Mujicun porphyry Cu–Mo deposit in the northern Taihang Mountains within the Central Orogenic Belt of the NCC. We constrain the timing of magmatism as 144.1 ± 1.2 Ma from zircon U–Pb data on the diorite porphyry that hosts Cu–Mo mineralization. Another U–Pb age of 139.7 ± 1.4 Ma was obtained from an epidote skarn that is located in the contact zone between the porphyry and its wall rocks. These data and five Re–Os molybdenite ages that range from 142.7 ± 2.0 Ma to 138.5 ± 1.9 Ma suggest that magmatism and mineralization occurred in about five million year duration from ~ 143 Ma to ~ 138 Ma. The He, Ar, Pb and, Hf data suggest that magmatism involved recycled Neoarchean lower crustal components, with input of heat and volatiles from an upwelling mantle. The Mujicun porphyry and associated mineralization provide a typical example for magmatism and metallogeny associated with lithospheric thinning in the NCC.  相似文献

The North China Craton (NCC) preserves the history of crustal growth and craton formation during the early Precambrian followed by extensive lithospheric thinning and craton destruction in the Mesozoic. Here we present evidence for magma mixing and mingling associated with the Mesozoic tectonic processes from the Central NCC, along the Trans-North China Orogen, a paleo suture along which the Eastern and Western Blocks were amalgamated at end of Paleoproterozoic. Our investigations focus on two granitoids – the Chiwawu and the Mapeng plutons. Typical signatures for the interaction of mafic and felsic magmas are observed in these plutons such as: (1) the presence of diorite enclaves; (2) flow structures; (3) schlierens; (4) varying degrees of hybridization; and (5) macro-, and micro-textures. Porphyritic feldspar crystals show numerous mineral inclusions as well as rapakivi and anti-rapakivi textures. We present bulk chemistry, zircon U–Pb geochronology and REE data, and Lu–Hf isotopes on the granitoids, diorite enclaves, and surrounding basement rocks to constrain the timing of intraplate magmatism and processes of interaction between felsic and mafic magmas. Our LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb data show that the pophyritic granodiorite was emplaced at 129.7 ± 1.0 Ma. The diorite enclaves within this granodiorite show identical ages (128.2 ± 1.5 Ma). The basement TTG (tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite) gneisses formed at ca. 2.5 Ga coinciding with the major period of crustal accretion in the NCC. The 1.85 Ga age from zircons in the gabbro with positive Hf isotope signature may be related to mantle magmatism during post-collisional extension following the assembly of the Western and Eastern Blocks of the NCC along the Trans-North China Orogen. Our Hf isotope data indicate that the Neoarchean–Paleoproterozoic basement rocks were derived from complex sources of both juvenile magmas and reworked ancient crust, whereas the magma source for the Mesozoic units are dominantly reworked basement rocks. Our study provides a window to intraplate magmatism triggered by mantle upwelling beneath a paleosuture in the North China Craton.  相似文献

We present petrologic, geochemical and U–Pb sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) data from previously undocumented dacite intrusions from the SE Arm of Sulawesi. The dacites occur in a strand of a major fault (the Kolaka Fault) that crosses the SE Arm of Sulawesi and northern Bone Bay. U–Pb SHRIMP dating shows the “Kolaka Dacite” yields zircon grains and overgrowths that range between ca. 4 and 7 Ma, indicating active magmatism in SE Sulawesi at this time. The youngest age population (4.4 ± 0.2 Ma) from this range is interpreted to be the maximum crystallization age for the dacite. The Kolaka Dacite is undeformed, and so potentially intruded during or after movement within a strand of the Kolaka Fault. The dacites may have otherwise been emplaced passively along existing foliation planes in the country rock schist. Additional U–Pb data were collected from inherited zircons, yielding ages between 8 Ma and 1854 Ma. We consider that these inherited zircons are xenocrysts, derived from either (1) a partially melted protolith and/or (2) xenocrysts assimilated during ascent of the magma. In either case, the inherited zircons record the age of the basement rocks beneath this part of SE Sulawesi. These inherited zircon cores show that the SE arm of Sulawesi is underlain by Proterozoic or younger material, validating earlier ideas that the crust here was derived from Gondwana.  相似文献

LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating and cathodoluminescene (CL) image analysis were carried out to determine the protolith and metamorphic ages of high-grade Al-rich gneisses, named as “khondalites”, from the Jining Complex of the North China Craton (NCC). The analytical results of more than 200 detrital zircon grains from the khondalites show three main age populations: 2060 Ma, 1940 Ma and 1890 Ma. These data indicate that the provenance of the Jining khondalites is Paleoproterozoic in age, but not Archean as previously suggested, and the sediments were derived from a provenance different from the Eastern Block and the Yinshan Terrane of the NCC. The nearly concordant youngest age of 1842 ± 16 Ma (207Pb/206Pb age) for the detrital zircons is interpreted as the maximum depositional age of the khondalites. Overgrowth rims of detrital zircons yield an age of 1811 ± 23 Ma, which we interpret as the metamorphic age. The new age data are consistent with the recent three-fold tectonic subdivision of the NCC and support that the Eastern and Western Blocks collided at ∼1.8 Ga to form the coherent NCC.  相似文献

The composite Zhaheba ophiolite complex, exposed in Eastern Junggar in the Southern Altaids, records an unusually long record of oceanic crust and magmatic arc evolution. The Zhaheba ophiolite complex consists of ultramafic rocks, gabbro, diorite, basalt and chert intruded by diabase dikes and diorite porphyry. These rocks are overlain by a several-km-thick section of tuffaceous rocks, volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks, and intermediate volcanic rocks. The igneous rocks of the ophiolite complex show negative Nb and Ta anomalies and LREE enrichment relative to HREE, suggesting the influence of fluids derived from a subducting oceanic slab. The LA-ICPMS U–Pb age of zircons from gabbro is 495.1 ± 3.5 Ma. Zircon ages from diorite and basalt are 458.3 ± 7.2 Ma and 446.6 ± 6.0 Ma, respectively. The basalt is locally overlain by bedded chert. Diabase dikes and diorite porphyry yield the U–Pb ages of 421.5 ± 4.1 Ma and 423.7 ± 6.5 Ma, respectively. The age of stratigraphically lower part of the overlying volcanic–volcaniclastic section is constrained to be about 410 Ma, the maximum depositional age of the tuffaceous sandstone from U–Pb detrital zircon ages. Late rhyolite at the top of the stratigraphic section yielded a U–Pb zircon age of 280.3 ± 3.7 Ma. The age and stratigraphic relationships for the Zhaheba ophiolite complex and related rocks suggest that the period of ~ 70 Ma of initial supra-subduction magmatism was followed by construction of a mature island arc that spanned an additional 140 Ma. Many other ophiolites in the southern Altaids appear to record similar relationships, and are represented as substrates of oceanic island arcs covered by island arc volcanism in supra-subduction zone. The occurrence of the Zhaheba ophiolite complex with tuffaceous and intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks is different from the rock association of classic Tethyan SSZ ophiolites but similar to some ophiolites in North America. Although the Zhaheba ophiolite belt is flanked by the Dulate arc in the north and Yemaquan arc in the south, it cannot stand a suture between two arcs. It is suggested that Devonian–Carboniferous Dulate arc was built on the late Cambrian–middle Ordovician Zhaheba supra-subduction oceanic crust. The late Carboniferous rocks and early Permian rocks in Dulate arc are interpreted to form in the extensional process within Zhaheba–Dulate arc composite system.  相似文献

A combined study of Lu–Hf isotopes and U–Pb ages for detrital zircons from sedimentary rocks can provide information on the crustal evolution of sedimentary provenances, and comparisons with potential source regions can constrain interpretations of paleogeographic settings. Detailed isotopic data on detrital zircons from Neoproterozoic sedimentary rocks in the northern part of the Yangtze Block suggest that these rocks have the maximum depositional ages of ~ 750 Ma, and share a similar provenance. In their source area, units of late Archean (2.45 to 2.55 Ga) to Paleoproterozoic (1.9 to 2.0 Ga) U–Pb ages made up the basement, and were overlain or intruded by magmatic rocks of Neoproterozoic U–Pb ages (740 to 900 Ma). Hf isotopic signatures of the detrital zircons indicate that a little juvenile crust formed in the Neoarchean; reworking of old crust dominates the magmatic activity during the Archean to Paleoproterozoic, while the most significant juvenile addition to the crust occurred in the Neoproterozoic. Only the Neoproterozoic zircon U–Pb ages can be matched with known magmatism in the northern Yangtze Block, while other age peaks cannot be correlated with known provenance areas. Similar zircon U–Pb ages have been obtained previously from sediments along the southeastern and western margins of the Yangtze Block. Thus, it is suggested that an unexposed old basement is widespread beneath the Yangtze Block and was the major contributor to the Neoproterozoic sediments. This basement had a magmatic activity at ~ 2.5 Ga, similar to that in North China; but zircon Hf isotopes suggest significant differences in the overall evolutionary histories between the Yangtze and North China.  相似文献

Rare earth element (REE) mineralization is hosted within Neoproterozoic alkaline metaigneous rocks in the northwestern part of the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt (OMB), a polymetamorphosed fold-and-thrust belt transecting the Paleoproterozoic Gyeonggi and Yeongnam Massifs in the southern Korean Peninsula. The principal carrier phase of REEs is allanite. Allanite grains can be subdivided into several types based on the texture and mineral assemblage including quartz, K-feldspar, biotite, britholite, apatite, fergusonite, andradite, magnetite, zircon, titanite and fluorite. Electron microprobe analysis of allanite clearly distinguishes sample-to-sample variations in total REEs, Ca, Al, Fe and Y but the textural varieties from each rock sample do not show marked differences in those elements. Sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe dating of allanite and zircon reveals a complex history of multistage mineralization. Allanite grains from REE ores yielded Late Ordovician (444.6 ± 8.0 Ma), Permian to Triassic (ca. 300–220 Ma) and Early Jurassic (199–183 Ma) 208Pb/232Th ages. These multiple age components often coexist in single grains showing slight differences in backscattered electron brightness. The Ordovician components have distinctly higher Th/U than the younger domains in the same rock sample. The cores and rims of zircon from a syenite hosting REE ore bodies yielded Neoproterozoic (858.2 ± 6.3 Ma) and Early Jurassic (ca. 190 Ma) 206Pb/238U ages, respectively. The Early Jurassic ages (194–187 Ma) also obtained from zircon grains from granites taken from dykes occurring close to the ores and a drill core indicate the correspondence between granitic magmatism and REE mineralization. The Neoproterozoic zircon inheritance (weighted mean = 853.9 ± 3.8 Ma) in these granites is in sharp contrast to the dominant Paleoproterozoic inherited zircon from the widespread earliest Middle Jurassic granites enclosing the mineralized zone. The geotectonic significance of the Late Ordovician event recorded in the allanite, as well as in detrital zircon from the OMB, is still unclear but its temporal coincidence with intraplate volcanism and arc-related igneous activity, respectively, reported from the southwestern edge of the adjacent Taebaeksan Basin and the southwestern Gyeonggi Massif is noteworthy. The following Permian–Triassic and Early Jurassic mineralization events are probably linked to the continental suturing between the North and South China blocks and subsequent post-orogenic magmatism, and arc magmatism resulting from the paleo-Pacific plate subduction, respectively. Sub-grain Sm–Nd isotopic analyses of allanite by laser ablation multiple collector ICPMS yielded initial εNd values plotting along the Nd isotopic evolution path of the Neoproterozoic metaigneous rocks, indicating that REEs originating from the host rock have been recycled during multistage mineralization events. The profound differences in inherited zircon ages and Nd isotopic compositions between the Early and Middle Jurassic granites may reflect the presence of a major thrust-bounded crustal structure beneath the OMB.  相似文献

We report SHRIMP U–Pb age of zircons in four samples of eclogite and one sample of orthogneiss from Sulu ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) zone in Yangkou area, eastern China. UHP rocks are distributed along the Sulu orogenic belt suturing North China Block with South China Block. In Yangkou area, UHP unit is well exposed for about 200 m along Yangkou beach section and consists mainly of blocks or lenses of ultramafic rocks and eclogite together with para- and orthogneiss which are highly sheared partly. Zircon grains examined in this study from eclogite show oscillatory zoning and overgrowth texture in CL images, and most of the grains have high Th/U ratio ranging from 0.8 to 2.1 indicating an igneous origin. The weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of zircons from the four samples range from 690 to 734 Ma. These ages can be correlated to the magmatic stage of the protoliths. In rare cases, zircon grains possess a narrow rim with very low Th/U ratio (< 0.02). EPMA U–Th-total Pb dating of such rim yields younger ages that range from 240 to 405 Ma marking the metamorphic stage. On the other hand, zircons from the orthogneiss show irregular shape and zoning with inclusion-rich core and inclusion-free rim. These grains of zircon yield U–Pb discordia intercept ages of 226 ± 63 Ma and 714 ± 110 Ma (MSWD 0.78). Bulk of the areas of the rims rim of the zircons demonstrate younger 206Pb/238U ages close to the upper intercept, with low Th/U ratio (< 0.20) indicating their metamorphic origin. In contrast, the cores show older 206Pb/238U ages close to lower intercept and high Th/U ratio of (0.14–5.25) indicating their igneous origin. The upper intercept age is also commonly noted in zircons from eclogite. Our results suggest a bimodal igneous activity along this zone during the Neoproterozoic, probably related to the rifting of the Rodinia supercontinent.  相似文献

In the Menderes Massif (western Taurides) a Neoproterozoic basement comprising metasediments and intrusive granites is imbricated between Paleozoic platform sediments. U–Pb–Hf zircon analyses of Menderes rock units were performed by us using LA-ICP-MS. The U–Pb detrital zircon signal of the Neoproterozoic metasediments is largely consistent with a NE African (Gondwana) provenance. The oldest unit, a paragneiss, contains significant amounts (~ 30%) of Archean-aged zircons and εHf (t) values of about a half of its Neoproterozoic zircons are negative suggesting contribution from Pan-African terranes dominated by reworking of an old crust. In the overlying, mineralogically-immature Core schist (which is still Neoproterozoic), the majority of the detrital zircons are Neoproterozoic, portraying positive εHf (t) values indicating derivation from a proximal juvenile source, resembling the Arabian–Nubian Shield. The period of sedimentation of the analyzed metasediments, is constrained between 570 and 550 Ma (Late Ediacaran). The Core schist sediments, ~ 9 km thick, accumulated in less than 20 My implying a tectonic-controlled sedimentary basin evolved adjacent to the eroded juvenile terrane. Granites, now orthogneisses, intruded the basin fill at 550 Ma, they exhibit ± 0 εHf (t = 550 Ma) and TDM ages of 1.4 Ga consistent with anatexis of various admixtures of juvenile Neoproterozoic and Late Archean detrital components. Granites in the northern Arabian–Nubian Shield are no younger than 580 Ma and their εHf (t) are usually more positive. This implies that the Menderes does not represent a straightforward continuation of the Arabian–Nubian Shield. The lower part of the pre-Carboniferous silisiclastic cover of the Menderes basement, comprises a yellowish quartzite whose U–Pb–Hf detrital zircon signal resembles that of far-traveled Ordovician sandstones in Jordan (including 0.9–1.1 Ga detrital zircons), supporting pre-Triassic paleorestorations placing the Tauride with Afro-Arabia. The detrital signal of the overlying carbonate-bearing quartzitic sequence indicates contribution from a different source: the majority of its detrital zircons yielded 550 Ma and ± 0 εHf (t = 550 Ma) values identical to that of the underlying granitic gneiss implying exposure of Menderes-like granites in the provenance.260–250 Ma lead-loss and partial resetting of the U–Pb system of certain zircons in both basement and cover units was detected. It is interpreted as a consequence of a Permian–Early Triassic thermal event preceding known Triassic granitoid intrusions.  相似文献

The ages of detrital zircon grains from one paragneiss and inherited zircon cores from two augen gneisses from the amphibolite facies basement of the Peloritani Mountains (southern Italy) measured by SHRIMP U–Pb constrain the previously unknown deposition age of the original sediments and help to elaborate a model for their provenance and subsequent evolution. The deposition age is latest Neoproterozoic to Cambrian (~ 545 Ma), bracketed by the combined ages of the youngest detrital/inherited zircon populations and of zircon from virtually coeval granitoids that intrude the metasediments. This is consistent with the subgreenschist facies Palaeozoic volcano–sedimentary sequences exposed in the southern Peloritani Mountains being the original cover rocks of the northern Peloritani late Neoproterozoic to early Cambrian basement. The age spectra of the detrital/inherited zircon grains show that the Neoproterozoic/Cambrian sediments were derived from the erosion of sources dominated by Neoproterozoic rocks with ages in the range of 0.85–0.54 Ga, with other main components aged 1.1–0.9 and ~ 2.7–2.4 Ga, and a minor one aged ~ 1.6 Ga, as typically found in peri-Gondwanan terranes. The presence of a large amount of Grenvillian-aged zircon contradicts previous models that propose a West African affinity for the Calabria–Peloritani Terrane, and the absence of 2.2–1.9 Ga Trans Amazonian/Tapajós–Parima/Eburnean zircon rules out an Amazonian provenance. The age spectra are more consistent with the basement sediments having an East African origin, similar to that of the early Palaeozoic sandstones in southern Israel and Jordan, part of a “provenance regionality” shared with other terranes currently located in the eastern Mediterranean area.  相似文献
