The electric currents induced in the atmosphere of a non-magnetic planet such as Venus by the interaction of the solar wind satisfy a generalized Ohm's Law relationship with tensor conductivity. The distribution of these currents within the planetary ionosphere may be calculated by a variational technique which minimizes the Joule heating over the ionospheric volume. In this paper, we present the development of the variational technique, and apply it to a model of the solar wind interaction with Venus.Potential and current distributions are shown, and the use of these distributions in determining convective transport patterns of planetary ions is discussed.  相似文献

The paper presents a mathematical model and a computational algorithm and describes a programming and computing suite (PCS) for the development of thermal protection systems for spacecraft designed to descend into the atmospheres of planets. The mathematical model and the PCS are implemented based on the development of thermal protection for the descent module of the EXOMARS 2020 surface platform.  相似文献

It is well known that the application of Newtonian dynamics to an expanding spherical region leads to the correct relativistic expression (the Friedmann equation) for the evolution of the cosmic scalefactor. Here, the cosmological implications of Milgrom's modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) are considered by means of a similar procedure. Earlier work by Felten demonstrated that in a region dominated by modified dynamics the expansion cannot be uniform (separations cannot be expressed in terms of a scalefactor) and that any such region will eventually recollapse regardless of the initial expansion velocity and mean density. Here I show that, because of the acceleration threshold for the MOND phenomenology, a region dominated by MOND will have a finite size which, in the earlier Universe ( z >3), is smaller than the horizon scale. Therefore, uniform expansion and homogeneity on the horizon scale are consistent with MOND-dominated non-uniform expansion and the development of inhomogeneities on smaller scales. In the radiation-dominated era, the amplitude of MOND-induced inhomogeneities is much smaller than that implied by observations of the cosmic background radiation, and the thermal and dynamical history of the Universe is identical to that of the standard big bang model. In particular, the standard results for primordial nucleosynthesis are retained. When matter first dominates the energy density of the Universe, the cosmology diverges from that of the standard model. Objects of galaxy mass are the first virialized objects to form (by z =10), and larger structure develops rapidly. At present, the Universe would be inhomogeneous out to a substantial fraction of the Hubble radius.  相似文献

We present three-dimensional numerical simulations of the interaction between a Hot Jupiter and the stellar wind plasma of its host star in the framework of resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). In a first step, we investigate the numerical realization of the plasma flow around the planet and the planetary magnetic field using a simplified model, before we simulate more realistic scenarios on the basis of the stellar wind model by Weber and Davis. A main goal is to understand the magnetic interaction between star and planet. In analogy to the well-known Jupiter Io scenario, we study the development of a magnetic field-aligned current system in different parameter regimes.  相似文献

Understanding the structure of and dynamic processes in the deep interior of planets is crucial for understanding their origin and evolution. An effective way to constrain them is through observation of rotation and subsequent simulation. In this paper, a numerical model of the Moon’s rotation and orbital motion is developed based on previous studies and implemented independently. The Moon is modeled as an anelastic body with a liquid core. The equations of the rotation were nonlinear and the Euler angles are cross coupled. We solve them numerically via the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg (RKF) and multi-steps Adams-Bashforth-Moulton (ABM) predictor-corrector numerical integration. We have found that adequate accuracy is maintained by taking twelve steps per day using eleventh differences in the integrating polynomial. The lunar orbital and rotational equations are strongly coupled, so we integrated the rotation and motion simultaneously. We refer to other planetary informations from the newest planetary and lunar ephemeris INPOP17a, which is reported had fitted the longest LLR (Lunar Laser Ranging) observation data. Using the model GL660B from GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) mission, we firstly compare our numerical results with the INPOP17a to prove the reasonability of our model. After that we apply the lunar gravity model CEGM02 determined from Chang’E-1 mission and SGM100h from SELENE mission to our model, the difference between results from CEGM02 and GL660B are less than \(-0.20 \sim0.15\) arc-second, and \(-0.25 \sim0.20\) arc-second for GL660B and SGM100h. Compared to SGM100h, the results show that the low degree and order coefficients (less than 6 from this paper) of lunar gravity field were improved in CEGM02 as expected. It is the first time to demonstrate that these models can be applied to lunar rotation model. These results manifest that a development of the gravity field measure will help us to know the rotation motion more precisely.  相似文献

In this paper, we have constructed Wet Dark Fluid (WDF) model in an anisotropic homogeneous space-time namely Marder’s space time. We discussed two type of models as: power law expansion model and exponential expansion model. Also some physical parameters of the model are obtained and discussed.  相似文献

MERLIN observations of the unusually slow nova V723 Cas are presented. Nine epochs of 6-cm data between 1996 and 2001 are mapped, showing the initial expansion and brightening of the radio remnant, the development of structure and the final decline. A radio light curve is presented and fitted by the standard Hubble flow model for radio emission from novae in order to determine the values of various physical parameters for the shell. The model is consistent with the overall development of the radio emission. Assuming a distance of 2.39 (±0.38) kpc and a shell temperature of 17 000 K, the model yields values for expansion velocity of  414 ± 0.1 km s-1  and shell mass of  1.13 ± 0.04 × 10−4 M  . These values are consistent with those derived from other observations although the ejected masses are rather higher than theoretical predictions. The structure of the shell is resolved by MERLIN and shows that the assumption of spherical symmetry in the standard model is unlikely to be correct.  相似文献

The first results of the solar dynamo model that allows for the diamagnetic effect of inhomogeneous turbulence and the nonlocal alpha-effect due to the rise ofmagnetic loops are discussed. The nonlocal alpha-effect is not subject to the catastrophic quenching related to the conservation of magnetic helicity. Given the diamagnetic pumping, the magnetic fields are concentrated near the base of the convection zone, although the distributed-typemodel covers the entire thickness of the convection zone. Themagnetic cycle period, the equatorial symmetry of the field, its meridional drift, and the polar-to-toroidal field ratio obtained in the model are in agreement with observations. There is also some disagreement with observations pointing the ways of improving the model.  相似文献

The Cassini spacecraft has revealed landforms on the surface of Titan suggested to be viscous cryovolcanic flows and possibly eruptive domes. In order to relate those surface features to the processes and chemistries that produced them, it is necessary to construct flow models, which rely on characterization of the rheological properties of the eruptants. This paper describes our initial exploratory attempts to understand the rheological characteristics of cryogenic slurries, using a 40% methanol-water mixture, as a precursor to more detailed experiments. We have devised a new automated cryogenic rotational viscometer system to more fully characterize cryovolcanic slurry rheologies. A series of measurements were performed, varying first temperature, and then strain rate, which revealed development of yield stress-like behaviors, shear-rate dependence, and thixotropic behavior, even at relatively low crystal fractions, not previously reported. At fixed shear rate our data are fit well by the Andrade equation, with the activation energy modified by a solid volume fraction. At fixed temperature, depending on shearing history, a Cross model could describe our data over a wide shear rate range. A Bingham plastic model appears to be a good constitutive model for the data measured at high shear rates when the shear was global. The yield stress like behavior implies that levee formation on cryolava flows is more likely than would be inferred from the previous studies, and may provide a partial explanation for features interpreted as steep-sided volcanic constructs on Titan.  相似文献

The Bare Essentials of Surface Transfer (BEST) land surface scheme is briefly described and the key physical parameterisations discussed. Results are then presented to illustrate how the model performs, with forcing data for HAPEX-MOBILHY, compared to a series of other schemes in the simulation of evaporation and sensible heat. The implications of the models performance, and some indications of the future development of the scheme are provided. The basic version of BEST was found to overestimate evaporation for the HAPEX-MOBILHY data, simulating 816 mm yr−1 compared to a range of 550 to 816 mm yr−1 for all models. A modification to the β parameterisation reduced the evaporation to 759 mm yr−1 which, although an improvement, is still probably too high.  相似文献

Solar Wind Forecasting with Coronal Holes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An empirical model for forecasting solar wind speed related geomagnetic events is presented here. The model is based on the estimated location and size of solar coronal holes. This method differs from models that are based on photospheric magnetograms (e.g., Wang–Sheeley model) to estimate the open field line configuration. Rather than requiring the use of a full magnetic synoptic map, the method presented here can be used to forecast solar wind velocities and magnetic polarity from a single coronal hole image, along with a single magnetic full-disk image. The coronal hole parameters used in this study are estimated with Kitt Peak Vacuum Telescope He I 1083 nm spectrograms and photospheric magnetograms. Solar wind and coronal hole data for the period between May 1992 and September 2003 are investigated. The new model is found to be accurate to within 10% of observed solar wind measurements for its best 1-month period, and it has a linear correlation coefficient of ∼0.38 for the full 11 years studied. Using a single estimated coronal hole map, the model can forecast the Earth directed solar wind velocity up to 8.5 days in advance. In addition, this method can be used with any source of coronal hole area and location data.  相似文献

We construct an approximation for the magnetic field of galaxies that takes into account the magnetic helicity conservation law. In our calculations, we use the fact that the galactic disk is fairly thin and, therefore, the magnetic field component perpendicular to the galactic disk can be neglected (the so-called no-z approximation). However, an averaging of the magnetic field over the entire galaxy, as was done in previous works, is not performed. Our results are compared both with the approximation that disregards the helicity flux and with the results obtained in models with helicity fluxes but without averaging. We show that, compared to the classical model, there are a number of new effects (for example, magnetic field oscillations) and, compared to the model with averaging, the behavior of the magnetic field “softens”: its stationary value is reached more slowly and the oscillation amplitude decreases. This is because the dissipative processes changing the magnetic field growth rate are taken into account in our model. In contrast to the model with averaging, here it becomes possible to construct the dependence of the magnetic field and helicity on the distance from the galactic center.  相似文献

Spectral line profiles associated with the nanoflare model of coronal heating are computed. It is shown that the reconnection jets associated with this heating model lead to Doppler shifts or line broadening of coronal spectral lines in excess of those observed. Some possible resolutions of the problem are suggested.  相似文献

An evolutionary model of quasars and AGNs with magnetic monopoles is proposed. Their energy source is due to nucleon decay induced by the monopoles. Both the mass and the luminosity of quasars and AGNs will gradually decrease in time because their constituent baryons are kept decaying and are transformed into radiation. The physical significance and theoretical predictions of our evolutionary model are stressed.  相似文献

Conflicting observations regarding the dominance of either sublimation or volcanism as the source of the atmosphere on Io and disparate reports on the extent of its spatial distribution and the absolute column abundance invite the development of detailed computational models capable of improving our understanding of Io’s unique atmospheric structure and origin. Improving upon previous models, Walker et al. (Walker, A.C., Gratiy, S.L., Levin, D.A., Goldstein, D.B., Varghese, P.L., Trafton, L.M., Moore, C.H., Stewart, B. [2009]. Icarus) developed a fully 3-D global rarefied gas dynamics model of Io’s atmosphere including both sublimation and volcanic sources of SO2 gas. The fidelity of the model is tested by simulating remote observations at selected wavelength bands and comparing them to the corresponding astronomical observations of Io’s atmosphere. The simulations are performed with a new 3-D spherical-shell radiative transfer code utilizing a backward Monte Carlo method. We present: (1) simulations of the mid-infrared disk-integrated spectra of Io’s sunlit hemisphere at 19 μm, obtained with TEXES during 2001-2004; (2) simulations of disk-resolved images at Lyman-α obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) during 1997-2001; and (3) disk-integrated simulations of emission line profiles in the millimeter wavelength range obtained with the IRAM-30 m telescope in October-November 1999. We found that the atmospheric model generally reproduces the longitudinal variation in band depth from the mid-infrared data; however, the best match is obtained when our simulation results are shifted ∼30° toward lower orbital longitudes. The simulations of Lyman-α images do not reproduce the mid-to-high latitude bright patches seen in the observations, suggesting that the model atmosphere sustains columns that are too high at those latitudes. The simulations of emission line profiles in the millimeter spectral region support the hypothesis that the atmospheric dynamics favorably explains the observed line widths, which are too wide to be formed by thermal Doppler broadening alone.  相似文献

We use a Mars general circulation model to examine the effect of orbital changes on the planet’s general circulation and climate system. Experiments are performed for obliquities ranging from 0° to 60° for two different longitudes of perihelion. Each experiment simulates a full Mars year assuming a fixed atmospheric dust distribution and fixed amount of CO2 in the atmosphere/cap system. We find that global mean surface temperatures and pressures decline with increasing obliquity due to the increasing extent of the winter polar caps. The seasonal CO2 cycle and intensity of the solstice circulation amplify considerably with increasing obliquity such that global dust storms are likely at both solstices. The most significant feature of the high obliquity solstice circulations is the development of an intense low-level jet associated with the return branch of the Hadley circulation.Model surface stresses are used to map regions of preferred dust lifting, which are defined in terms of an annual deflation potential. For the present obliquity, the model-predicted regions of high deflation potential are in good agreement with Cantor et al.’s (2001, J. Geophys. Res.106, 23653-23688) observations, which gives us some confidence in the model’s ability to predict where lifting might occur when Mars’ orbit parameters are different than they are today. In general we find that the dust lifting potential increases sharply with obliquity and is greatest at times of high obliquity when perihelion coincides with northern summer solstice. Over an obliquity cycle, the model global annual deflation potential ranges from several tenths of a millimeter at 0° obliquity to almost 15 mm at 60° obliquity. Much higher values are possible when the atmosphere is very dusty. We find a strong correlation between the deflation potential and surface thermal inertia: regions of high deflation potential correspond to regions of high thermal inertia (high rock abundance), and regions of low deflation potential correspond to regions of low thermal inertia (high dust/sand abundance). Furthermore, while the regions of preferred lifting (high deflation potential) expand somewhat with increasing obliquity and dust loading, the central parts of Tharsis, Arabia, and Elysium show no tendency for significant lifting at any obliquity or longitude of perihelion. These regions may therefore be very old and represent net long-term sinks for atmospheric dust. It is the topography of the planet, through its influence on surface pressure and wind systems, which ultimately determines where dust accumulates. Finally, as was found by Fenton and Richardson (2001, J. Geophys. Res.106, 32885-32909), we find no tendency for the development of east-southeasterly winds at the Pathfinder site for any of our orbital change experiments. This suggests that the ancient wind regime discussed by Greeley et al. (2000, J. Geophys. Res.105, 1829-1840) was produced by other factors, such as polar wander.  相似文献

A cosmological model with inhomogeneous space and nonuniform time is proposed and substantiated. Both space and time are assumed to be finite, i.e., curved of positive sign and characterized by a variable curvature. The replacement of the absolute universal time by a relative proper time, intrinsic for individual gravitational objects, is in accord with the spirit of relativity.Numerous consequences of this model leading to observable phenomena in galaxies, quasars and in the solar system are derived from the mathematical analysis of the line element, Equation (8), of the model in the papers mentioned in Section 4.2, where they are confronted with observational evidence. In addition several predictions following from the theory are listed (Section 4.3), whose verification by future observations may justify the postulate lying at the basis of this theory.  相似文献
