Shock-induced Ti-rich melt pockets in a basaltic eucrite Northwest Africa (NWA) 8003 were studied using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Unique mineral assemblages consisting of clinopyroxene, ilmenite, vestaite, corundum, and kyanite are observed. Among them, vestaite and corundum in NWA 8003 are first reported to occur in eucrite meteorites. Petrographic and chemical evidences indicate that the Ti-rich melt pockets have formed by in-situ melting of ilmenite, plagioclase, pyroxene, and possibly minor silica and apatite nearby. The temperature rise and melting were caused by the high shock impedance contrast at interfaces between ilmenite and other phases with a distinctly lower density. Crystallization pressure, temperature and cooling time of the Ti-rich melt pockets in NWA 8003 are constrained to be ˜0.9–˜10 GPa, ˜1300–˜1730 °C, and < 1 ms (5–50 μm in size), respectively.  相似文献

We have used Kieffer's vibrational model to calculate heat capacities and entropies for Al2O3 corundum and MgSiO3 ilmenite, using available vibrational and elastic data for these phases. The calculated heat capacity for corundum is within 1–2 percent of the experimental values between 100 K and 1,800 K, while that for MgSiO3 ilmenite is within 1–2 percent of the experimental data between 350 K and 500 K. We have calculated the heat capacity for MgSiO3 ilmenite from 50 K to 1,800 K, which extends the range of available heat capacity data for this phase. The results of this calculation suggest that there may be differences in the vibrational properties of corundum and MgSiO3 ilmenite. Finally, we have used the results of our calculation to obtain a transition entropy of near -18.8 J/mol.K for the MgSiO3 pyroxene-ilmenite reaction.  相似文献

Macrocrysts of corundum, ilmenite, and spinel-group minerals from alluvial deposits of the Eger Rift were studied for composition, texture, and mineral inclusions. All macrocrysts show usually magmatic corrosion textures indicating disequilibrium with the transporting alkali-basalt magma. Corundum grains, exclusively sapphires, were classified by trace-element signatures as magmatic and metamorphic types. Some sapphire grains show erratic compositions that may have resulted from a metasomatic overprint. The inclusion inventory of magmatic corundum suggests crystallization from a differentiated alkaline silicate melt. Corundum itself was never observed as an inclusion mineral. Magnesium- and Fe3+-rich ilmenite, described as typical mantle-derived species, is the dominant heavy mineral in almost all alluvial deposits of the Eger Rift. Most discrete macrocrysts are similar in appearance and composition to kimberlite- and basanite-related ilmenite. Ilmenite included in alluvial corundum and zircon grains differ from the bulk of discrete ilmenite grains by larger concentrations of Nb and Mn. The mantle origin of the Mg–Fe3+-rich ilmenite is confirmed by compositional and thermo-barometric comparison with ilmenite from clinoproxenitic and hornblenditic xenoliths, which probably originated in the Moho region. The Fe–Ti two-oxide geothermometry and oxygen-barometry of coexisting ilmenite–magnetite pairs yield equilibrium temperatures between 900 and 1,080 °C and oxygen fugacities log10fO2 between ?0.1 and 1.1 (relative to the NNO buffer), which indicate that the upper mantle as well as the mantle/crust transition zone below the rift is at least partially oxidized. The ilmenite macrocrysts were transported from the source region to the surface by explosive alkali-basalt magmas, as implied by the presence of basaltic-pipe breccias in close vicinity to some placer deposits.  相似文献

A detailed electron microprobe study has been made of magnetite grains from magnetitite layer 1 of the upper zone of the Bushveld Complex, in order to establish if there is any evidence for postcumulus processes having affected magnetite compositions. Representative composition profiles obtained from detailed step traverses are presented for touching magnetite grains and where magnetite is in contact with either ilmenite or plagioclase.Magnetite grains in all textural settings are compositionally heterogeneous. Touching magnetite grains display systematic compositional zonations: the rims of grains show a marked decrease in Al and Mg towards the grain boundary; the cores are characterised by a distinctive peak and trough pattern for these elements. These variations can be related to the positions of exsolved phases. Exsolutions in the cores are either pleonaste or an Fe3+ bearing AlMg spinel, whereas those at the grain boundaries are generally more Al-rich and include corundum. Similar exsolution related compositional variations for Mg and Al were found in magnetites in contact with ilmenite and plagioclase.A model has been developed which illustrates the possible sequence of postcumulus events during the interval between accumulation of the magnetite and the cessation of subsolidus reactions. The essential feature of the model is the delicate interplay between depletion of the host magnetite by corundum, pleonaste and the Fe3+ bearing AlMg spinel exsolutions, and diffusion of Al and Mg into the depleted areas from the surrounding magnetite.Data for Cr contents in magnetites show that although this particular trace element is apparently resistant to redistribution by exsolution processes, it is affected by subsolidus re-equilibration between magnetite and ilmenite, or magnetite and intercumulus liquid.  相似文献

Corundum+quartz-bearing assemblages occur in small lenses in granulite facies metapelites in Rayagada, north-central part of the Eastern Ghats Granulite Belt, India. Corundum porphyroblasts and quartz coexist with porphyroblastic almandine-rich garnet, hercynite spinel, ilmenite and magnetite. Corundum and quartz are separated by sillimanite or a composite corona consisting of sillimanite and garnet, whereas corundum shows sharp grain boundaries with spinel, ilmenite and magnetite. Porphyroblastic corundum contains prismatic sillimanite inclusions in which irregularly shaped quartz is enclosed. Two distinct reactions are inferred from the textural features: corundum+quartz=sillimanite and spinel+quartz=garnet+sillimanite. From the petrographical features, we infer that corundum–quartz–garnet–spinel was the peak metamorphic assemblage. Although large uncertainties exist regarding the positions of the respective reactions in P–T  space, from several published experimental results and theoretical calculations a peak metamorphic condition of 12  kbar and 1100  °C is estimated as the lower stability limit of the corundum–quartz assemblage. Decompression from the peak P–T  condition to c .  9  kbar, 950  °C is inferred.  相似文献

The attractive physical and chemical properties of corundum lend to this material’s importance in both its natural and synthetic forms. However, much of the quantitative work performed on this material is plagued by unknown inaccuracy as non‐matrix‐matched reference materials are used. To conduct accurate quantitative analysis using SIMS, matrix‐specific relative sensitivity factors (RSFs) were determined for eighteen trace elements in corundum using dose‐verified ion implants. The RSF values ranged from 2.56 × 1022 to 3.29 × 1024 cm‐1 with total combined uncertainty values ranging from 7 to 10%. The RSF values, which are related to ionisation potentials, showed trends consistent with expectations for an insulating oxide. The developed values were applied to calibrate reference materials for LA‐ICP‐MS and to study other natural and synthetic corundum samples. A measurement reference material calibrated for Mg, Si, Ti, V, Fe and Ga produced consistent results over ten sessions in 4 years with relative standard deviations per trace element of 5% or less, confirming the repeatability of our process. A key finding was that calibrating LA‐ICP‐MS with NIST SRM 610 and 612 glasses to analyse corundum resulted in under‐reporting trace elements Be, Ti, V, Fe, Co, Ni and Ga compared with using matrix‐matched reference materials.  相似文献

Eclogitic (E-type) and related parageneses of natural diamonds are represented by suites of diamond inclusions and xenoliths of diamondiferous eclogites. Major-element data are presented for 32 coexisting minerals forming 19 bimineralic and trimineralic inclusions from diamonds, including omphacite-orthopyroxene (1 sample), garnet-omphacite (5 samples), garnet-coesite (5 samples), omphacite-coesite (2 samples), garnet-picroilmenite (2 samples), garnet-kyanite (1 sample), omphacite-phlogopite (2 samples), and garnel-omphacite-phlogopite (1 sample). Major-element variations of coexisting minerals are typical of corresponding eclogites. Omphacite with 5.02 wt% Na2O, inter-grown with orthopyroxene with Mg# 83.7, represents the first example of a diamondiferous websterite paragenesis including Na-clinopyroxene. This indicates a broader range in mineral compositions of E-type-related websteritepyroxenite-associated diamonds than known previously. This unique websterite-pyroxenitic mineral assemblage represents a transitional paragenesis between peridotitic or ultramafic (U-type) and E-type parageneses.

Bimineralic eclogites, ilmenite eclogites, coesite + corundum + kyanite eclogites, and grospydites occur not only as sets of inclusions in diamonds but, with a few exceptions (ilmenite and coesite eclogites), also as diamondiferous eclogite xenoliths. The coesite eclogite paragenesis is a significant inclusion suite in diamonds, and was detected in about 15 diamond occurrences worldwide. It represents from 15% to 22% of all E-type diamonds in several occurrences, and thus should not be considered as rare.  相似文献

The corundum‐rich metabauxites, found at the northwest limb of an NE–SW‐trending isoclinal recumbent fold at Mt. Ismail, are enclosed in thick‐bedded platform‐type marbles of Late Cretaceous age, surrounding the polymetamorphic core series in the southern part of the Menderes Massif (SW Turkey). The metabauxite horizons observed as typically boudine‐like structure, extend laterally over c. 3 km and are 1 to 5 m thick. These rocks have dominant mineral assemblages of corundum (~50 modal %), chloritoid (~30 modal %), white mica (margarite, muscovite), diaspore, Fe–Ti‐Oxides (ilmenite, ilmenohematite, rutile), and goethite, limonite, pyrite, tourmaline (uvite, schorl) as minor phases. Chemical analyses of whole rock samples and the mineral assemblage indicate that coexisting minerals of metabauxites are highly aluminous. A number of minerals (e.g. chloritoid and margarite) display a large compositional variation reflecting the initial chemical inhomogenetiy of the karstbauxites. The field observations, trace‐element accumulation coefficients, concentration of elements such as Cr, Zr, Ga and Ni and low amounts of immobile elements all suggest that the studied corundum‐rich metabauxites can be classified as karstbauxites, and are more likely to be a product of weathering of intermediate igneous or argillaceous parental rocks, similar to the karstic Tauric bauxites in the Central Taurides (Seydi ?ehir region) and probably are similar in age (Cenomanian–Turonian). In respect of tectono‐metamorphic evolution, the studied corundum‐rich metabauxites were regionally metamorphosed at ~5–6 kbar pressure and 500–600°C as a consequence of the Barrovian metamorphism referred to as the ‘Main Menderes Metamorphism’ related to the ophiolitic obduction onto the Menderes platform from the Izmir–Ankara Suture during the Middle Eocene.  相似文献

Crystals of a high-pressure phase of MnTiO3 have been synthesized at pressures of 60 kbar using the SAM-85 cubic-anvil high pressure apparatus. Although all crystals examined were twinned on (10 \(\bar 1\) \(\bar 2\) ), a set of diffraction intensities that are essentially unaffected by the twinning were obtained. Three possible structure models were considered: (1) the corundum (completely disordered Mn and Ti), (2) the partially-disordered ilmenite, and (3) the LiNbO3 structures. The R factors of the corundum and the disordered ilmenite models were much larger than that of LiNbO3. Using structure factors unaffected by twinning, the final LiNbO3-type refinement gave R w=0.037 and R=0.034. The averaged bond lengths for Mn-O and Ti-O were consistent with ones calculated using Shannon and Prewitt's (1969) radii. The study concludes that MnTiO3 II actually has an ordered LiNbO3-type structure rather than the disordered one as reported previously. From the analysis of the two MnTiO3 structures, the transition can be related to a cation reordering process, in which half of the cations participate, accompanied by the rotation of oxygens to accommodate the cations.  相似文献

Potential sources for alluvial gem corundum and zircon from the Rio Mayo area, near Mercaderes, Colombia are reviewed, based on U–Pb dating of syngenetic and protogenetic mineral inclusions in corundum samples and on a zircon megacryst. Corundum recovered from the region (approx. 99% sapphire, 1% ruby) commonly shows growth banding, includes colour change stones and exhibits overlaps in colour ranges and inclusion characteristics. This suggests a contiguous genetic suite. The U–Pb dating used laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) techniques. Because of the young ages and low-U contents of the dated zircons, the acquired data required a special statistical treatment. The results from zircon, fluorapatite and allanite-(Ce) inclusions provide a corundum crystallization age of 8 to 11 Ma, in relation to northern Andean Miocene uplift and magmatism. The zircon megacryst gave a younger crystallization age of c. 0.6 Ma, unrelated to the corundum genesis. Geochemical parameters (trace element and O isotope ranges) for corundum samples suggest a metamorphic/metasomatic origin. The age data rules out corundum genesis during the Late Cretaceous ophiolitic generation, but leave open possible later metasomatic interactions with this substrate. The Cr/Ga and Ga/Mg ratios and O isotope range for the corundum fall within the known limits for metasomatic, desilicated felsic/ultramafic ‘plumasitic’ associations, suggesting a possible parental source. Allanite, extremely rare as an inclusion in corundum elsewhere, may prove a characteristic inclusion for Rio Mayo corundum.  相似文献

Five minerals of the corundum group have been identified in the Khibiny pluton with certainty. Corundum proper and karelianite occur only in hornfels after volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Xenoliths of hornfels mark the ring faults that bound foidalite within the field of foyaite. Hematite occurs in hydrothermally altered nepheline syenite and crosscutting hydrothermal veins related to the ring faults. Minerals of the ilmenite-pyrophanite series are present in all rocks of the pluton, including veins. Accessory ilmenite in foyaite varies from the manganese variety and pyrophanite in the inner and outer parts of the pluton to manganese-free ilmenite in zone of the Main Ring Fault. In xenoliths of volcanic rocks and alkaline ultramafic rocks, ilmenite is enriched in magnesium. The zoning in distribution of the above-mentioned minerals and the character of variation in their compositions from margins of the pluton to its center are consistent with the petrochemical zoning formed as a result of foyaite alteration of near ring faults.  相似文献

页岩储层由于骨架和孔隙结构的微观非均质性,能够在地震频段内引起波诱导的孔隙流体流动相关的弹性频散和衰减,但声波测井和实验室超声实验测量频率段远超地震频段,不可避免产生测量速度和衰减差异。这里基于澳大利亚惠灵顿地区的页岩岩心在干燥和水饱和条件下地震频段的弹性和衰减测量结果,考虑频变反透射系数和衰减对地震波反射的影响,针对不同层厚的页岩储层开展地震响应计算,并利用Wigner-Ville分布时频分析技术讨论了页岩频散、衰减性质及层厚对其地震响应规律的作用。对于无明显速度频散和衰减的页岩储层,顶、底反射振幅的频变属性受调谐效应控制,主要呈现出低频异常和陷频特征;而对于速度频散和衰减强烈的储层,顶、底反射振幅的频变属性同时受到调谐效应与储层本身频散衰减性质的作用。干燥和含水页岩储层地震响应的频变性质差异有助于加深对含流体页岩地震响应特征的理解,而基于地震频段实测数据正演和时频分析技术,对于提高页岩的地震勘探精度和流体识别具有重要的作用。  相似文献

The genesis of Liangguo corundum deposit in the southern Gangdese magmatic arc, east-central Himalaya, remains unknown. The present study shows that the corundum-bearing rocks occur as lenses with variable sizes in the Eocene gabbro that intruded into marble. These corundum-bearing rocks have highly variable mineral assemblage and mode. The corundum-rich rocks are characterized by containing abundant corundum, and minor spinel, ilmenite and magnetite, whereas the corundum-poor and corundum-free rocks have variable contents of spinel, plagioclase, sillimanite, cordierite, ilmenite and magnetite. The host gabbro shows variable degrees of hydration and carbonization. The corundum grains are mostly black, and rarely blue, and have minor Fe O and TiO_2. The spinel is hercynite, with high Fe O and low Mg O contents. The corundum-bearing rocks have variable but high Al_2O_3, FeO and TiO_2, and low SiO_2 contents. Inherited magmatic and altered zircons of the corundum-bearing rocks have similar U e Pb ages(~47 Ma) to the magmatic zircons of the host gabbro, indicating corundum-bearing rock formation immediately after the gabbro intrusion. We considered that emplacement of gabbro induced the contact metamorphism of the country-rock marble and the formation of silica-poor fluid. The channeled infiltration of generated fluid in turn resulted in the hydrothermal metasomatism of the gabbro, which characterized by considerable loss of Si from the gabbro and strong residual enrichment of Al. The metasomatic alteration probably formed under Pe T conditions of ~2.2 -2.8 kbar and ~650 -700℃. We speculate that SiO_2, CaO and Na_2O were mobile, and Al_2O_3, FeO, TiO_2 and high field strength elements remained immobile during the metasomatic process of the gabbro. The Liangguo corundum deposit, together with metamorphic corundum deposits in Central and Southeast Asia, were related to the Cenozoic Himalayan orogeny, and therefore are plate tectonic indicators.  相似文献

To understand the relationship between the frequency of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from loaded coal rock and the micro-crack structures inside it, and assess the stress state and the stability of coal rock by analyzing frequency changes in characteristics of its emitted EMR, we first experimentally studied the changes in time sequence and the frequency spectrum characteristics of EMR during uniaxial compression, then theoretically derived the relationship between the principal frequency of EMR signals and the mechanical parameters of coal crack and analyzed the major factors causing the changes in the principal frequency, and lastly verified the results at Nuodong Coal Mine, Guizhou Province, China. The experimental results showed that (1) EMR intensity increased with the applied stress on loaded coal rock during its deformation and failure and could qualitatively reflect the coal’s stress status; (2) with the applied stress increasing, the principal frequency gradually increased from near zero to about 60 kHz and then dropped to less than 20 kHz. During this period, coal rock first stepped into the linearly and elastically deformed stage and then ruptured around the peak load. Theoretical analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between the principle frequency and the size of internal cracks. Field detection showed that a lower principle frequency was generated from coal rock applied by a greater load, while a higher principal frequency was generated from coal rocks suffering a weaker load.  相似文献

Metapelitic country rocks were contact- and pyro-metamorphosed by the Tertiary Skaergaard Intrusion, East Greenland. In an initial stage of heating, while they were probably still in place within the host rock contact aureole, they overstepped a range of equilibrium and disequilibrium melting reactions and produced both a granitic melt and very refractory spinel+cordierite+plagioclase±corundum residuals. Parts of these refractory rocks were then subjected to another melting event after being entrained as xenoliths into the Skaergaard Marginal Border Group, where they experienced a temperature of about 1,000°C at a pressure of about 650 bars and at an oxygen fugacity about 0.2–0.5 log units below the FMQ buffer. Here, they underwent bulk melting, but did not mix with the Skaergaard magma, presumably because of the high viscosity contrast. The Al-rich melts crystallized to an assemblage of corundum+mullite+sillimanite+ plagioclase+spinel+rutile±tridymite±cordierite and they reacted with the surrounding basalt producing a strongly cryptically zoned rim of plagioclase (An55 close to the basalt to An90 close to the Al-rich melt). The assemblage in the inner parts of the xenoliths provides textural evidence for disequilibrium growth due to slow diffusivities in the highly viscous, probably water-free Al-rich melt. Later interaction of lower temperature ferrobasaltic to granophyric melts with the xenoliths along their margins and along cracks led to consumption of corundum and mullite and to the stable assemblage of spinel+cordierite+plagioclase+quartz+K-feldspar +magnetite+ilmenite at about 800°C.  相似文献

应用系统聚类和因子分析的方法分别对厦门湾112个表层沉积物样品的粒度组成和其中35个样品的矿物组成进行分析。结果表明:厦门湾可以划分为三种与沉积动力特征相对应的主要沉积环境区;表层沉积物中共发现碎屑矿物50种,其中重矿物38种,优势重矿物为磁铁矿、钛铁矿、褐铁矿、赤铁矿、绿帘石、角闪石、锆石等;表层沉积物主要由九龙江等入海泥沙和厦门湾周缘基岩风化侵蚀产物组成,部分为来自台湾海峡的物质。物质来源是影响研究区表层沉积物中重矿物分布的主要因素。  相似文献

High-pressure phase transformations were investigated for two silicates, MgSiO3 and ZnSiO3; six germanates, MGeO3 and six titanates, MTiO3 (M=Ni, Mg, Co, Zn, Fe, and Mn) at about 1,000°C and pressures up to ca. 30 GPa. CoGeO3 was found to assume the ilmenite form. The ilmenite phases were confirmed to transform in the following schemes: to perovskite in MgSiO3 and MnGeO3, to corundum in MgGeO3 and ZnGeO3, to rocksalt plus rutile in ZnSiO3 and CoGeO3 and to rocksalt plus TiO2 (possibly of some denser structure) in NiTiO3, MgTiO3, CoTiO3, ZnTiO3 and FeTiO3. In the case of FeTiO3, the corundum form appeared as an intermediate phase. The possibility that the corundum type MnTiO3 might transform to some denser modification could not be excluded. The compound NiGeO3 was nonexistent throughout the pressure range studied. High-pressure phases of ABO3 (A=Ni, Mg, Co, Zn, Fe, and Mn; B=Si, Ge and Ti) are summarized, and those stabilized at pressures higher than 20 GPa are discussed.  相似文献
