Sudden phase anomalies (SPA's) observed in the phase of GBR 16 kHz VLF signals during the years 1977 to 1983 have been analysed in the light of their associated solar X-ray fluxes in the 0.5–4 Å and 1–8 Å bands. An attempt has been made to investigate the solar zenith angle () dependence of the integrated solar X-ray flux for producing SPA's. It is deduced from the observations for < 81° that the phase deviation increases linearly as a whole with increasing solar X-ray fluxes in these two bands. The threshold X-ray flux needed to produce a detectable SPA effect has been estimated to be 1.6 × 10–4 ergcm–2 s–1 and 1.8 × 10–3 ergcm–2 s–1 in the 0.5–4 Å and 1–8 Å bands, respectively. For both bands the average cross section for all atmospheric constituents at a height of 70 km is almost equal to the absorption cross section for the 3 Å X-ray emission.  相似文献

This work presents spectroscopic observations of Parsamian 21, which has been shown recently by Staude and Neckel to be a fuor-type star. A list of identified absorption lines is given. The results are compared with previous spectroscopic observations over the period 1966–1990. It is shown that the H line profile changed during this period; according to the observations of 1986, the center of the H absorption line was shifted by –140 km/sec from 0 and reached –600 km/sec at the line edge. It follows from the presented lightcurve that the star has undergone brightness variations of nearly three magnitudes and most likely became a fuor before 1902.Translated fromAstrofizika, Vol. 39, No. 2, pp. 227–235, April–June, 1996.  相似文献

We present a model of the solar atmosphere in the optical depth range from 5000 = 10–8 to 25. It combines an improved model of the photosphere that incorporates recent EUV observations with a new model of the quiet lower chromosphere. The latter is based on OSO 4 observations of the Lyman continuum, on infrared observations, and on eclipse electron densities. Our model differs from the Bilderberg Continuum Atmosphere (BCA) in the low chromosphere (5000 < 10–4), where deviations from local thermodynamic equilibrium in hydrogen and carbon have been taken into account. It also differs in the transition region between the chromosphere and the photosphere (10–4 < 5000 < 10–2), where the temperature is lower than in the BCA, and in the convective region (5000 2), where the temperature is higher than in the BCA.  相似文献

We report on preliminary results of EXOSAT observations of three gamma-ray burst error boxes. No source was detected down to a limit of 10–10 erg cm–2s–1, assuming a black-body spectrum for the burst counterpart. Results are interpreted in the framework of current theoretical models.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

Minor bodies that, at the present stage, have orbital characteristics similar to those of the Pribram meteorite and that differ from it in the date of activity of the radiants by no more than a 1.2-month period in either direction were detected on the basis of catalog data on the orbits of asteroids, individual fireballs, and fireball and meteor streams obtained from photographic observations. The following objects comprising the Prbram family are among such minor bodies: three asteroids (1863, 4486, and J98S70J) of the Apollo group, three fireball streams, five meteor streams, and ten fireballs. This extensive system of bodies consists of three branches: a Northern (N), an Ecliptical (Q), and a Southern (S) Branch. The family of meteor streams associated with the periodic comet Pons–Winnecke appears to be related to this family. Thus, there emerges an intricate complex of small bodies that is similar to the well-known Taurid complex. In the distribution of various populations of minor bodies according to the quantity c of the Tisserand criterion, both of these complexes of minor bodies, like the group of cometoids (or cometlike asteroids), are situated in the region of unstable motion or, to be more exact, near the gap that arises in the L 2 and L 3 collinear points of libration.  相似文献

We present the results of the photometric observations, in theUBVRJHKLMNQ system, of CH Cyg, made in the period 1978–1987. They have shown that from 1985 to 1987 dust condensed in its circumstellar envelope have taken place the condensation of the dust matter. In 1987 its mass and temperature were about 3×10–8 M and 800 K, respectively.  相似文献

A progress report on cosmic fireballs is presented. The main new results are: (a) the phenomenon should be almost universal, and most explosive -ray sources should show the characteristic fireball spectrum; (b) even if the radiation density is insufficient, pair production in electron-proton or electron-electron scattering might start the fireball; (c) some computed fireball spectra are shown. They all have in common a 1/E low-energy behaviour, a 100 keV flattening, and a 0.5 MeV cut-off.Paper presented at the Symposium on Cosmic Gamma-Ray Bursts, held at Toulouse, France, 26–29 November, 1979.  相似文献

The Naval Research Laboratory flew solar X-ray ionization chamber detectors on a series of Solar Radiation (SOLRAD) satellites from 1960 through 1979. The flare responses of the SOLRAD 11 detectors are compared with those of the similar NOAA SMS/GOES detectors during two periods of common observations. The nominal GOES fluxes exceed those of SOLRAD 11 by a factor of 1.5–2 in the 0.5–4 Å band, but fall below those of SOLRAD by a factor of 2–4 in the 1–8 Å band. Significant passband differences account for these relationships between the detector responses. Since the X-ray detectors are standardized among the various SOLRAD satellites, and all detectors are closely matched among the various SMS/GOES satellites, these conversion factors allow the SOLRAD flare observations to serve as proxies for GOES X-ray observations prior to the GOES era. We summarize the detector characteristics and data sources of the 0.5–3 Å and 1–8 Å detectors for the SOLRAD series.  相似文献

Observations of impulsive solar flare X-rays 10 keV by the OGO-5 satellite and the measurements of energetic solar electrons made with the Explorer-35 and Explorer-41 (IMP-5) satellites during the period March 1968–September 1969 have been analyzed in order to determine the ion density in the X-ray source region as well as the location of the electron acceleration region in the solar atmosphere. If we assume that the efficiency of escape of the accelerated electrons into interplanetary space is 10–3, the observations are found to be consistent with the following interpretation: (i) the ion density in the X-ray source region varies from event to event and lies between 109 and 1011 ions cm–3 for those events in which the impulsive X-ray emission could be detected; (ii) for those events in which no impulsive emission was detected above threshold, the ion density in the X-ray source was < 109 ions cm–3; (iii) at least in some small solar flares the region where the electrons are accelerated during the flash phase is located in the lower corona.  相似文献

We study the initiation and development of the limb coronal mass ejection (CME) of 15 May 2001, utilizing observations from Mauna Loa Solar Observatory (MLSO), the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), and Yohkoh. The pre-eruption images in various spectral channels show a quiescent prominence imbedded in the coronal void, being overlaid by the coronal arch. After the onset of rapid acceleration, this three-element structure preserved its integrity and appeared in the MLSO MK-IV coronagraph field of view as the three-part CME structure (the frontal rim, the cavity, and the prominence) and continued its motion through the field of view of the SOHO/LASCO coronagraphs up to 30 solar radii. Such observational coverage allows us to measure the relative kinematics of the three-part structure from the very beginning up to the late phases of the eruption. The leading edge and the prominence accelerated simultaneously: the rapid acceleration of the frontal rim and the prominence started at approximately the same time, the prominence perhaps being slightly delayed (4 – 6 min). The leading edge achieved the maximum acceleration amax 600 ± 150 m s–2 at a heliocentric distance 2.4 –2.5 solar radii, whereas the prominence reached amax 380± 50 m s–2, almost simultaneously with the leading edge. Such a distinct synchronization of different parts of the CME provides clear evidence that the entire magnetic arcade, including the prominence, erupts as an entity, showing a kind of self-similar expansion. The CME attained a maximum velocity of vmax 1200 km s–1 at approximately the same time as the peak of the associated soft X-ray flare. Beyond about 10 solar radii, the leading edge of the CME started to decelerate at a–20 m s–2, most likely due to the aerodynamic drag. The deceleration of the prominence was delayed for 10 –30 min, which is attributed to its larger inertia.  相似文献

The isotropic cumulative burst rate of 7030 –6000 +10000 yr–1 at a fluence ofS=8.47×10–9 erg–1 cm–2 determined by Beurleet al. from their observation of two gamma-ray bursts is shown to be statistically improbable. The difficulty arises from their assumption that the power law cumulative distribution function index equals one. Their observations are rediscussed and an upper limit ofN(>8.47×10–9 erg cm–2)<5400 yr–1 is proposed.  相似文献

We present observations of the 3130 Å Beii resonance doublet in stars of intermediate metal deficiency, –0.6[Fe/H]–1.1 obtained with the Intermediate Dispersion Spectrograph and IPCS detector at the 2.5 m Isaac Newton Telescope on La Palma. The derived beryllium abundances range from 5.6×10–12 (one hafl solar) to 2×10–12 (one sixth solar). These values, interpolated between the sets of previous beryllium measurements at higher and at lower metallicities, serve to confirm the monotonic variation of the Be abundance with Fe during the evolution of the galactic disc. We find that there was no extreme burst of Be production in the halo. To circumvent the effects of depletion, a statistical set of data is needed, for which the upper envelope can be used to trace galactic Be evolution. We note that no observations with sufficient sensitivity to detect Be in the extremely metal deficient stars of the halo have been reported to date.  相似文献

Additional absorption features in the red wings of the resonance Mgii lines near 2800 Å are found in the observations of Algol made by Chen and Wood (1976) from theCopernicus satellite. The absorption features were clearly seen only during a part of the primary eclipse, in the phase interval 0.90–0.03.The observations are interpreted as produced by a stream of matter flowing from Algol B in the direction of Algol A. The measured Doppler shifts of the features give the value of 150 km s–1 as the characteristic velocity of matter in the stream. The mass transfer connected with the stream is estimated to be of the order of 10–13 M yr–1.  相似文献

The impacts of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 left spots on Jupiter with diameters on the order of tens of thousands of kilometers, which have the appearance of debris fields strewn upon the Jovian cloud tops. In this note we employ a measurement of the optical depth of the debris at the impact site of fragment G to estimate mass in the debris field and lower limits to the G fragment mass of 4×1012 – 4×1013 g and diameter of 0.1 – 0.3 km.The masses and sizes of the fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 are still uncertain, with estimated sizes ranging from 0.1 to 4 km. The size of the cometary body before breakup is believed to have been between 1 and 10 km. (Asphaug & Benz 1994; Solen 1994; Weaver et al. 1994, Scott & Melosh 1993). These estimates were based on pre-impact images of the cometary fragments. A complimentary technique is to use post-impact images of the spots left on Jupiter to infer the sizes and masses of the fragments.Structure in the underlying clouds is clearly visible through spots imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope, implying that the debris fields are relatively thin. Shortly after the G impact, A'Hearn and collaborators (paper in preparation) used the University of Maryland CCD System at the Perth Observatory to image Jupiter in a variety of bandpasses. While a complete reduction is still underway, a preliminary examination of the raw data shows that the spot at the impact site of fragment G, when near the central meridian roughly three hours after impact, had an average optical depth of roughly 0.05 in several bandpasses between 0.62 and 0.73µm. The measured diameter of the spot was approximately D = 15,000 km.In this note we do not present the data for optical depth, but rather we show that measurements of this type can be used to determine the mass of the solid particles in the clouds and thus to set limits on the mass of the impactor. We assume that the spot consisted of a thin layer of dust in the upper atmosphere. Assuming a one-particle layer covering a fraction of 0.05 of the spot area (a valid assumption for an optically thin cloud), the mass of matter in the spot is M = (0.05/4) dD2, where and d are the particle density and diameter. Particle sizes are not directly measured. However, the particle diameters cannot be much less than 1 µm because the CCD observations when compared with HST ultraviolet images show that extinction is not strongly wavelength dependent at optical and near-uv wavelengths. Typical grain sizes in comets and in the zodiacal dust range from 1 to 10 µm. For particle densities of 0.5 g cm–3 and assumed particle diameters in the range 1 – 10 µm, we find masses, M = 4×1012 – 4×1013 g. Assuming an impactor density of 0.5 g cm–3 (Asphaug & Benz 1994), the corresponding fragment diameters are 0.1 – 0.3 km. Larger sizes for the grains would increase the estimated mass. The observed debris may not be actual comet dust. Since temperatures in the fireball are estimated to be several thousand degrees, all the material in the fragment should have been vaporized (Sekanina et al 1995; Takata et al 1994; Zahnle & MacLow 1994). Therefore the debris material could consist of recondensed matter, perhaps organics, from the fireball. An impactor collides with roughly its own mass of atmospheric material before disruption, so the estimates for the impactor mass hold to order of magnitude even if the debris contains matter with contributions from originally atmospheric gases. The estimate of 0.1 – 0.3 km diameter for the G fragment is a lower limit because the object would also contain material, for example ices, that would not appear in the debris field. Furthermore, since the HST images show structure in the spots that is unresolved in the observations used here, the spot may not be optically thin at all points, but only on average, and this leads to our estimate being a lower limit for the mass of particles. As noted above, the particles are unlikely to be much less than 1 µm in size; particles much larger than 10µm would also imply a larger mass of particles. The derived fragment size is comparable to those estimated from pre-impact observations.  相似文献

We report on eight X-ray bursts detected by ASTRON from the Rapid Burster (RB) on 13 and 28 April and 16 August, 1983. Six of them (trailing bursts), with durations of 1.5–2 min, rise times of 5–10 s and intervals of 1–1.5 hours, exhibit spectral softening during the burst decay and may be related to the type I bursts. Two of the bursts (triangle bursts) observed on 28 April at interval of 28 min with much longer rise times (30–50 s) and longer durations (3 min), do not show distinct spectral softening. Persistent flux from RB on 16 August was estimated asF p(2.0–2.4)×10–9 erg cm–2 s–1. Spectral evolution of two trailing bursts was investigated by fitting their spectra in consecutive time intervals with the blackbody (BB), isothermal scattering photosphere (SP) and thermal bremsstrahlung (TB) models. Around the burst maxima the SP model fits the data best whereas in the burst tails the TB model is generally better. The BB model is worse than at least one of the two others. Interpretation of the burst spectra in terms of the BB radiation leads to improbably small neutron star mass and radius (M<0.86M ,R NS<5 km) if the peak luminosity does not exceed the Eddington limit. Interpretation of the spectra around the burst maxima (3–15 s from the burst onset) in terms of an isothermal SP yields reasonable constraints onM,R NS, and distanceD. For instance, for the hydrogen photosphere we obtainedM=(1.0–2.1)M R NS=(7.1–16.4) km ifD=11 kpc. If one postulatesM=1.4M , thenD=(8.5–13) kpc for hydrogen photosphere; if, besides,D=11 kpc, thenR NS=(8.1–13.3) km. It follows also from the SP-interpretation that the photosphere radius may increase up to 20–30 km in maxima of the trailing bursts when the luminosity becomes close to the Eddington luminosity.  相似文献

Accurate temperature–depth profiles may help to assess the temperature variations associated with the climate changes in the past. Ninety-eight ground surface temperature histories inverted from the temperature–depth borehole logs drilled on the territory of the Czech Republic [Bodri, L., ermák, V., 1995. Climate changes of the last millennium inferred from borehole temperatures: results from the Czech Republic — Part I. Global Planet. Change 11, pp. 111–125; Bodri, L., ermák, V., 1997. Climate changes of the last two millennia inferred from borehole temperatures: results from the Czech Republic — Part II. Global Planet. Change 14, pp. 163–173.] are used to reconstruct the regional patterns of the respective climate change. The climate was mapped for the following periods: 1100–1300 A.D. (Little Climatic Optimum), 1400–1500 A.D., 1600–1700 A.D. (main phase of the Little Ice Age), and for the most recent climate trend after year 1960. Comparison of the obtained maps with the meteorological observations and proxy climatic reconstructions confirmed good applicability of the “geothermal” paleoclimatic reconstructions for the regional studies.  相似文献

The CrAO-WSO-network experiment was designed for detection of low-degree oscillations of the Sun representing either its normal g -modes or those driven by, e.g., rapid (hypothetical) rotation of the central solar core. The Doppler-shift measurements were made in 1974–1995 at both sites during about 13600 hr, in all. Taking into account the upper limit (0.08 m s-1) for amplitudes of potential g-modes, attention is paid to the Sun's behaviour at frequencies near the 9th daily harmonic (period P 160.The two main issues follow from analysis of the combined CrAO-WSO data: (a) in 1974–1982 the primary period of solar pulsation was P 0160.0099 ± 0.0016 ± 0.0016 min, but (b) during the last 13 yr it attained a new value, P 1 159.9654 ± 0.0010 min, which happens to be a near-annual sidelobe of P 0. We find therefore that the phase stability of the 160-min mode is no longer present: it appears to be splitted at least into a pair of oscillations,P 0 and P 1, having perhaps different physical origins. But the most striking is the fair coincidence of the strongest peaks in the two data sets: CrAO (1974–1995): P = 159.9662 ±0.0006 min, WSO (1977–1994): P = 159.9663 ± 0.0007 min. The existence of two frequencies,P -1 0 and P -1 1, with their separation corresponding to 1-yr period, seems to be difficult to explain in terms of gravity g modes.  相似文献

OASIS observations obtained at the Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope for the spiral galaxies NGC 4900 and NGC 5430 produce one spectrum for each 0.41″ element of the 11″ × 15″ field of view. This allows for the spatial characterisation of the different stellar populations. From these observations we study the young (10 Myr) and older stellar populations using evolutionary synthesis codes. Based on the gas emission lines, we find that the young populations are located in relatively small regions and dominate the integrated flux. In NGC 4900, the young populations are distributed in a bar-like structure featuring a hole near the position of the galaxy’s centre. The young stellar populations of NGC 5430 form a nuclear ring and two patches at the base of the spiral arms. Based on Mg2 and FeI absorption lines, we find that in both galaxies, the young stars are superimposed on a relatively homogenous population of a few Gyr.  相似文献

The properties of the neutrino burst generated by massive 1.5–2M collapsing stellar iron-oxygen cores are discussed. Special attention is given to the neutrino heat conductivity theory which allows us to calculate the transport of neutrinos through the collapsing stellar core up to the formation and during the first seconds of cooling of a hot hydrostatic neutron star. The theoretical predictions seem to be in good agreement with both the KAMIOKANDE II and IMB data on the neutrino burst detected from SN 1987A. The most reliable constraint on the neutrino rest mass is shown to bem v <20–30eV, while the safest upper limit on the neutrino magnetic moment, µ v < 10–11 Bohr magnetons, results rather from the cooling of white dwarfs than from the SN 1987A neutrino data.Presented to the 13th International Conference Neutrino-88, Boston, U.S.A., 5–11 June, 1988.  相似文献
