The standardised growth curve (SGC) for quartz OSL has recently been developed as a practical means to reduce measurement times when determining palaeodoses using quartz of aeolian sediments, especially loess and desert sand from the same section or the same geographical area. In the present study, we test the performance of SGCs for lacustrine sediments of three cores in the Qaidam Basin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) in China. A total of nine samples were collected (three samples from each of the three cores), and silt-sized (38–63 μm) quartz was extracted for the experiment. The results demonstrated that: (a) Nine samples display similar dose–response curves up to a regeneration dose of 600 Gy using single aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) protocol, suggesting the existence of a standardised growth curve for lacustrine sediments in the Qaidam Basin; (b) For samples with Des of up to ~400 Gy, the Des determined by the SGC are in agreement with the Des by the SAR protocol, suggesting that the SGC approach could be used for De determination up to a dose of ~400 Gy for lacustrine samples from the Qaidam Basin of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in China; (c) The saturation dose for these samples is more than 600 Gy, and in the growth curve a linear growth part was observed in the high dose range of >200 Gy.  相似文献

Daihai Lake is one of the largest lakes in the mid-latitude of northern China. Previous environmental change investigations using the sediments from the lake have been mainly focused on the last 13 ka. In 2006, we drilled an 80-m borehole on the southwest coast of the lake. Here we report the results of initial optical dating of the upper 22-m sediments from the core. Most of the samples allow separation of the 4–11 μm fine-grained and 45–63 μm medium-grained quartz, both of which were used for equivalent dose (De) determination. Dose recovery test experiments with the single-aliquot regeneration-dose (SAR) protocol indicate that a preheat at 240 °C for 10 s combined with a cut-heat of 240 °C is suitable for these samples. The De values show marked discrepancy between the two grain size fractions with the fine-grained quartz yielding up to over 50% higher De values than the medium ones for some samples. We consider the OSL ages for the samples from upper ~10 m to be overestimated. The main cause of the overestimation is attributed to the incomplete bleaching of the sediment grains at deposition. The OSL ages for the lower part of the sequence are considered to be reasonable age estimates which provide useful temporal constrains on the deposition of the sediments for the period of 20–40 ka.  相似文献

Studies of modern sediments, their sedimentology and depositional processes are important for understanding the behaviour of the luminescence characteristics of quartz and feldspar in fluvial settings. Previous studies have shown large variations in OSL characteristics of quartz from different fluvial systems, while the IRSL and pIRIR signals from K-feldspar have been understudied. We test the effects of fluvial setting on luminescence characteristics by collecting modern (<1 year old) bedload sediments down the courses of three river systems with very different hydrological characteristics, geologic contexts, and catchment lithologies. The single grain (SG) and multi-grain aliquot (MGA) OSL (quartz) and IRSL and pIRIR (K-feldspar) properties of samples were measured and compared to better understand intra- and inter-fluvial system patterns in sensitivity, bleaching, and equivalent dose (De) distribution skewness and kurtosis. The quartz OSL and K-feldspar IRSL and pIRIR signal sensitivities increase with downstream transport distance of sediments, confirming previous studies (quartz) and showing that IRSL signals from K-feldspar also increase in response to reworking cycles. Increasing transport distance also results in better bleaching of the OSL signal from quartz samples (MGA and SG) due to more grains being exposed to sunlight. By contrast, the IRSL and pIRIR signals retain significant residuals in all samples, though 5–15% of grains yield zero-dose De values and age modelling of SG data yields accurate burial dose estimates. Additionally, the skewness and kurtosis of SG OSL De datasets from one river increase with transport distance, with the best bleached samples exhibiting the highest skewness, thereby questioning the applicability of the skewness-value of a De dataset as an accurate indicator for partial-bleaching. Our data shows marked variability between (i) different river systems and (ii) the measured minerals, however consistent use of statistical models allows accurate De estimation in all contexts. Age modelling of SG data from K-feldspar, thus, provides a valuable tool for future fluvial research in regions where poor OSL characteristics prevent the use of quartz as a dosimeter.  相似文献

We present chronological constraints on a suite of permanently frozen fluvial deposits which contain ancient DNA (aDNA) from the Taimyr Peninsula of north-central Siberia. The luminescence phenomenology of these samples is first discussed, focusing on the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) decay curve characteristics, thermoluminescence (TL) properties, and signal compositions of quartz from these previously unstudied deposits. Secondly, we assess the suitability of these samples for OSL dating and present the OSL chronologies obtained using both single-grain and multi-grain equivalent dose (De) measurements. The results of our analyses reveal a large amount of inter-aliquot variability in OSL decay curve shape that is directly related to differences in the size of the 280 °C TL peak and the associated slowly bleached ‘S2’ OSL component. Longer OSL stimulation durations are adopted in the De measurement procedure to prevent the progressive build-up of slowly bleached signal components throughout successive single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) measurement cycles. The use of low preheat temperatures in the SAR procedure also reduces the deleterious effects of these slowly bleached signal components. The resultant single-grain and multi-grain OSL chronologies obtained using this approach are stratigraphically consistent and are in close agreement with independently established 14C ages at our sites. The findings of this research reveal the potential of OSL dating as a means of providing a reliable chronometric framework for sedimentary aDNA records in permafrost environments.  相似文献

In order to test the accuracy of quartz optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating for young dune sediments (<100 a), a series of aerial images of a migrating sand dune is used to cross validate OSL ages. The investigated dune is situated on the northern part of the island of Sylt (southern North Sea). Based on aerial images and a map from 1925 to 2009 and the internal architecture of the dune obtained by ground-penetrating radar (GPR), an independent age model has been developed to attribute sedimentary-architectural elements of the dune to time. The annual rate of dune migration is calculated to be around 4.1 m/a. Along a 245 m transect oriented parallel to the direction of dune movement, 13 samples for OSL dating were collected at equidistant locations. Sand-sized quartz (150–250 μm) was used for determining the equivalent dose (De) applying a single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) protocol. Results show that the oldest OSL age from the investigated recent dune appeared to be 110 ± 10 a, whereas the modern analogue was dated to 34 ± 3 a. In comparison with the aerial images, the OSL ages show a systematic overestimation of 10–40 a for six out of seven younger samples, which are expected to be younger than ∼60 a. This offset is negligible for older samples, but a substantial error in these younger ages. The overestimation is originated from a combination of small thermal transfer of 4–12 mGy during preheat and incomplete bleaching in medium OSL component causing a residual dose of about 15 mGy. The contribution of the incompletely bleached medium component cannot be removed totally by an early background subtraction approach. Despite the observed offset for youngest samples, this study corroborates the suitability of the OSL technique to date young dune sediments (<100 a).  相似文献

A comparative study using quartz optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and feldspar post-infrared infrared stimulated luminescence (post-IR IRSL) was undertaken on Quaternary fluvial sediments from an unnamed tributary of the Moopetsi River in South Africa. The aim is to assess whether the post-IR IRSL signal can be used to date incompletely bleached sediments. Several post-IR IRSL signals using varying stimulation and preheat temperatures were investigated; of these the post-IR IRSL225 signal was deemed most appropriate for dating because it bleached most rapidly. The feldspar post-IR IRSL225 equivalent dose (De) values from this site are consistently larger than those from quartz OSL, probably due to differences in the bleaching characteristics of the two signals. Additionally, the post-IR IRSL225 De values within a sample showed less variation in precision than the quartz De data, possibly due to greater averaging between grains in the feldspar small aliquots. The agreement between ages based on the OSL and post-IR IRSL225 signals was better for younger samples (<20 ka) than for older ones (>50 ka); the cause of this variation is unclear.  相似文献

The usual practice in optical dating is to derive an equivalent dose (De) (and hence age) from integration of the initial part of the measured optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) signal. This ‘bulk’ OSL signal is known to comprise several semi-independent components, each of which decays at different rates during measurement, and thus contributes a different proportion to the bulk signal as measurement time progresses. Data are presented here which show a strong dependence of De on the bulk signal integration interval, with reduced De for later signal integration intervals resulting from lower medium component De values. This dependence leads to two problems: (i) deciding which signal integral to choose, and (ii) the possibility that all bulk signals will provide systematic age underestimation due to medium component signal contributions. Isolating the fast component of the bulk OSL signal provides a solution to both problems and several methods of achieving this are assessed; an efficient new method is described which is incorporated in to standard single-aliquot regenerative-dose measurement sequences. This method involves the direct measurement of the fast-component signal using infrared (830 nm) stimulation of quartz at 160 °C, prior to the standard bulk OSL measurement with 470 nm stimulation. It is shown that the measured quartz infrared stimulated luminescence signals resolve pure fast-component signals and provide De estimates consistent with those from signal deconvolution. This approach can only be applied to samples with relatively bright luminescence emissions, but in these cases is expected to provide a more robust estimate of palaeodose.  相似文献

Equivalent dose (De) values were measured by using medium aliquots of different grain size quartz fractions of five lakeshore sediments from the arid region of north China. There are two different relationships between De values and grain sizes of these five samples. The first relationship is that the De values obtained from various grain sizes are in agreement within 1 delta errors. The second relationship is that De values are similar to each other for fractions between 125 and 300 μm, while the De value of the 63–90 μm fraction is 40~55% smaller than others. For example, the De values obtained for sample #3 are 20.15 ± 1.19 Gy, 19.80 ± 0.83 Gy and 20.93 ± 1.06 Gy for fractions of 90–125, 125–150 and 250–300 μm respectively, but are 10.79 ± 0.84 Gy for the 63–90 μm fraction. The second relationship can't be interpreted by previous studies of both dosimetry and heterogeneous bleaching. It is deduced for sample #2, #3 and #6 that fine particles (<90 μm) intruded after the dominant sedimentation. Comparison of OSL ages from different grain size fractions of sample #2 with a radiocarbon age from the same lithologic layer supports that fractions coarser than 125 μm yield more reliable burial ages, while the fraction finer than 90 μm yields underestimated ages for some lakeshore sediments from this arid region.  相似文献

Relict periglacial wedge structures are widespread in mid-latitude and polar regions. The wedges have a high preservation potential and are often infilled with quartz-rich aeolian sand, making them potentially suitable for luminescence dating. This paper presents initial work from an anti-syngenetic sand wedge in the Tuktoyaktuk Coastlands, Arctic Canada. When samples were measured at the single grain level they showed poor palaeodose (De) reproducibility and consequent high age uncertainties. The aim of the study was to determine whether this intra-sample De scatter reflected methodological issues arising from OSL measurement or processes of wedge development.Initial single grain dose recovery tests show that De scatter was not easily explained by poor recycling, sensitivity changes, variable OSL components, recuperation problems, or large De uncertainties from dim grains. Single grain preheating tests did show that some De scatter might be attributable to individual grains requiring different preheat temperatures, whilst dose recovery tests revealed that highly sensitive grains showed less scatter than dim grains. However, selection of these bright grains from natural samples still resulted in scattered De values. An alternative explanation for the De scatter relates to the formation of anti-syngenetic sand wedges by thermal contraction cracking over thousands of years in an eroding landscape, which may result in sediment of very different ages being deposited in adjacent cracks. Finite mixture modelling was used to identify De components within each sample. Ages calculated from these components suggest sand wedge formation at ca. 5, 8.5, 12.5 and 18 ka which correlate well with known cooling events over the last 18 ka and support a multiple phase activity model for anti-syngenetic sand wedges.  相似文献

In this article we test for the first time the potential of single-grains of K-rich feldspar to date well-bleached and poorly bleached sediments using a post-IR IRSL (pIRIR) protocol. We measure natural dose distributions using K-rich feldspars from four coastal samples applying the pIRIR protocol with a preheat of 200 °C and a pIRIR stimulation temperature of 180 °C; each sample had an independent age control obtained from quartz OSL and radiocarbon dating. We also analyse single-grain dose distributions of “zero-dose” and γ-irradiated samples to determine thermal transfer/residual doses and the intrinsic sources of variability of pIRIR single-grain measurements, respectively. Based on these experiments, we conclude that thermal transfer/residual dose give rise to an offset of ∼0.6 Gy in these samples and that the uncertainty assigned to individual pIRIR single-grain dose estimates cannot be smaller than 16.5%.The analysis of the well-bleached samples shows that only the brightest 30% of the grains give pIRIR single-grain ages in agreement with the age control; this effect may arise from the suggested correlation between blue emission and potassium content of individual grains. Comparison of single-grain quartz and feldspar dose distributions from the poorly bleached samples shows that quartz is relatively better bleached; nevertheless, selection of a reliable ‘minimum’ feldspar dose was achieved using two different statistical models.  相似文献

Quartz optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) is increasingly being used to constrain the depositional age of fluvial and glaciofluvial sequences over orbital (Milankovitch) timescales within the British Isles. Few of these previous studies have had any age control; however there is some evidence that OSL ages based on the single aliquot regenerative dose (SAR) protocol may be subject to systematic age underestimation as samples approach saturation. In this study, the age of 12 luminescence samples from a chronologically well-constrained site dating to 450 ka from the Thames terrace sequence, southern Britain, was measured using SAR in order to test the performance of the method close to its upper age limit. The characteristics, dose response and thermal stability of the OSL signal in these samples were assessed by investigating equivalent dose (De) as a function of stimulation time and component-resolved pulse annealing. Despite the fact that the samples are dominated by the quartz fast component, these results showed that both the medium and slow components have lower stabilities than the fast component, but with the unstable medium component most affecting the initial part of the OSL signal used in dating. Based on isolating the fast component either through curve fitting or eliminating the medium component using the early background subtraction method, OSL ages up to 450 Gy were found to compare well with the expected age of the site of 450 ± 23 ka. In contrast, a systematic age underestimation of 10% was manifested at lower doses when using the initial part of the OSL signal, contaminated by the medium component. These results suggest that the early background subtraction method should be used when dating in the non-linear part of the growth curve as it provides a better separation of thermally unstable signals and represents a more convenient approach than curve fitting in well-behaved samples.  相似文献

Seven samples were collected from sediments at the Palaeolithic site of Jeongokri, Korea, known for the first discovery of Acheulian-like handaxes in East Asia. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages obtained from chemically purified quartz from the upper five samples are in stratigraphic order, but the ages of the lower samples are not. The OSL signal of the oldest samples occurs well above the saturation level of the exponential part of the dose response curve; however, the OSL signal has an additional component that grows linearly at high doses, making it possible to calculate a De value and thus an age. However the reliability of calculating De using this linear component is not clear. In contrast, the thermally transferred OSL (TT-OSL) signal grows linearly with dose up to at least 1600 Gy, thus permitting its use for dating. The TT-OSL ages are in agreement with those from the OSL for the four uppermost samples, but give older ages for the lower three samples. Ages obtained using TT-OSL are in stratigraphic order and indicate that the oldest artefacts have an age of ~195 ka.  相似文献

The Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) is of major interest to Quaternary geologists because it represents an important terrestrial archive of palaeoclimatic fluctuations. Previous multiple-aliquot luminescence dating studies of Chinese loess mainly used thermoluminescence (TL) and infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) signals of polymineral fine-grains; these are known to be subject to anomalous fading and thus will tend to yield age underestimations. In this paper we investigate whether the blue-light stimulated luminescence (BLSL) signals from 63 to 90 μm quartz grains extracted from three western Chinese loess sites (Zhongjiacai, Le Du and Tuxiangdao) can be used to establish a reliable chronology. The single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) procedure is used for the equivalent dose (De) determinations and the suitability of our measurement protocol is confirmed by dose recovery tests. The influence of an IRSL signal on the quartz De measurements derived from BLSL has been investigated. From these results we conclude that an IRSL contamination, expressed as an IRSL/BLSL ratio, of up to 10% can be accepted before the values of De are significantly affected. All three sites yield stratigraphically consistent and spatially highly reproducible optical ages up to about 50–70 ka. At the Tuxiangdao site a marked hiatus in the record is identified between ∼20 and ∼30 ka; this remained undetected in previous studies and clearly highlights the importance of high-resolution optical dating in Chinese loess research. The optical ages presented in this work provide more evidence for episodic loess deposition and varying loess accumulation rates in the western part of the CLP. Our study seems to confirm the potential of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating using the SAR procedure applied to the very fine sandy quartz fraction in Chinese loess back to ∼40–50 ka (∼120–150 Gy).  相似文献

We present the results of K-feldspar IRSL dating of the four lower terraces (T3–T6) of the Portuguese Tejo River, in the Arripiado-Chamusca area. Terrace correlation was based upon: a) analysis of aerial photographs, geomorphological mapping and field topographic survey; b) sedimentology of the deposits; and c) luminescence dating. Sediment sampled for luminescence dating gave unusually high dose rates, of between 3.4 and 6.2 Gy/ka and, as a result, quartz OSL was often found to be in saturation. We therefore used the IRSL signal from K-feldspar as the principal luminescence technique. The K-feldspar age results support sometimes complex geomorphic correlations, as fluvial terraces have been vertically displaced by faults (known from previous studies). Integration of these new ages with those obtained previously in the more upstream reaches of the Tejo River in Portugal indicates that the corrected K-feldspar IRSL ages are stratigraphically and geomorphologically consistent over a distance of 120 km along the Tejo valley. However, we are sceptical of the accuracy of the K-feldspar ages of samples from the T3 and T4 terraces (with uncorrected De values >500 Gy). In these cases the Dose Rate Correction (DRC) model puts the natural signals close to luminescence saturation, giving a minimum corrected De of about 1000 Gy, and thus minimum terrace ages; this may even be true for those doses >200 Gy. Luminescence dating results suggest that: T3 is older than 300 ka, probably ca. 420–360 ka (~Marine Isotope Stage [MIS]11); T4 is ca. 340–150 ka (~MIS9-6); T5 is 136–75 ka (~MIS5); T6 is 60–30 ka (MIS3); an aeolian sand unit that blankets T6 and some of the older terraces is 30–≥12 ka. Collectively, the luminescence ages seem to indicate that regional river downcutting events may be coincident with periods of low sea level (associated, respectively, with the MIS10, MIS6, MIS4 and MIS2).  相似文献

The prehistoric site of Ifri n'Ammar is situated in northeastern Morocco, in the northern prolongation of the Middle Atlas Mountains. It is a key location in unravelling the history of anatomically modern humans (AMH) in northern Africa as it reveals Middle and Late Palaeolithic occupation phases since ∼170 ka. Whilst the archaeological sequence within the rock shelter has been well studied, the timing of landscape dynamics around Ifri n'Ammar is still poorly understood. This study therefore aims to establish a detailed chronology of the Wadi Selloum profile at the apron of the shelter, based on optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating of ephemeral stream deposits. Coarse-grain quartz was used for single-grain and multiple-grain dating procedures to investigate the luminescence properties of these deposits and to get more accurate age information concerning the phases of human occupation. Continuous wave OSL (CW-OSL) revealed a dominant fast component for all quartz samples. The dose distribution of the uppermost samples showed overdispersion values >25% and significant positive skewness. We identified partial bleaching as the main source of scatter in the equivalent dose (De) distribution. The lowermost sample appeared to be close to signal saturation. The shapes of the dose response curve varied widely between aliquots and coarse quartz grains exhibited therefore very different dose saturation behaviours among aliquots. With fully saturated dose response curves (DRCs), meaningful D0 values were assumed for De estimation. The eight OSL samples yielded stratigraphically consistent ages ranging from 1.3 ± 0.2 ka to 76 ± 5 ka, thus reaching the Middle Palaeolithic period. Moreover, a pottery shard dated to 7.4 ± 0.6 ka (Early Neolithic period) by thermoluminescence (TL), perfectly matched the Holocene OSL samples extracted at the same depth of the profile. In summary, our results point to fluvial aggradation during OIS 5.1, the late glacial period, and the Holocene.  相似文献

Modern Mississippi Delta sediments were analyzed to investigate quartz OSL signal resetting in large river deltas and test the accuracy of OSL dating on a decadal time scale with the early background subtraction and a recently proposed burial dose estimation procedure. Both fine silt-sized and sand-sized quartz were measured with a modified single-aliquot regenerative dose (SAR) protocol and equivalent dose (De) was calculated using different background subtraction methods. Evidence of insufficient bleaching was observed, but the residual signal is equivalent to ∼100 a on average for both sandy quartz and fine silt-sized quartz. It is shown that dose distributions of sandy quartz are affected by the background subtraction. The proportion of aliquots that have De in agreement with expectation is significantly larger when an early background is subtracted compared to the late background subtraction. This is, in contrast, not observed for fine silt-sized quartz. Accurate OSL ages were obtained by employing the unlogged minimum age model to Des of sandy quartz obtained with the early background subtraction method.  相似文献

Standardized growth curves (SGCs) have recently been developed as a means to reduce measurement times when determining palaeodoses in the standardized luminescence (OSL) dating of quartz, but this approach is not without its critics. We test the performance of SGCs derived from samples from a range of environments in southern Africa and Florida (United States of America). Data presented here suggest that the method performed well when determining low (<50 Gy) equivalent dose (De) values from samples with different geological provenances within South Africa. However, the application of an SGC built from South African data performed poorly when used to estimate the palaeodoses of samples from Florida, with seven out of ten samples failing to replicate the single aliquot regenerative (SAR)-derived De value to within ±10%. We thus advocate the use only of regionally based SGCs for full De determination, although SGCs can also be utilized as a way of quickly generating SAR ‘range finders’ irrespective of sample origin. Furthermore, one sample from the Florida site did not show regenerative growth in accordance with any samples from either the South Africa or Florida data, resulting in significant De underestimation when using the SGC. Although the reasons for such behaviour are not yet understood, this re-iterates the recommendation of Burbidge et al. [2006. De determination for young samples using the standardised OSL response of coarse-grain quartz. Radiation Measurements 41(3), 278], to incorporate a single regenerative step in SGC protocols in order to check consistency.  相似文献

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating methods have been widely applied in Quaternary glaciology. However, glacigenic deposits are considered in general as problematic for OSL dating, mainly because they are transported shorter distances prior to burial and are usually partially bleached. Thus, most researchers choose glaciofluvial and glaciolacustrine sediments (with relatively longer transportation times) for OSL dating when constraining the age of glaciation. In this study, four samples were collected from a lateral moraine series at Zhuqing Village, northern margin of Queer Shan Mountain, eastern Tibetan Plateau, in order to investigate the applicability of OSL dating for morainic deposits. Quartz grains (38–63 μm) were extracted and measured using single aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) protocol. Internal checks and dose recovery test show that the SAR protocol is appropriate for equivalent dose (De) determination. The effect of thermal transfer is small for all samples and the recycling ratio for each individual sample is close to unity. The symmetry in the De distributions indicates that quartz grains were well-bleached prior to burial. OSL ages show good agreement with geomorphological and field investigations, and are also concordant with an independent ESR age. It is concluded that: (a) the morainic deposits in Zhuqing were well-bleached and suitable for OSL dating; (b) SAR protocol can be applied to morainic deposits for samples under study.  相似文献

The site of Bonneval (France) exhibits a 6 m thick stratigraphical sequence in which Middle and Lower Palaeolithic artefacts were discovered. The stratigraphy of the site consists of an alternation of loess-like silt layers deposited along glacial stages, and paleosoil horizons corresponding to the vegetal stabilization of the area during interglacials. These layers hence provide past environmental informations and can be used as stratigraphical markers and compared with well dated sequences of Northern France. Eight sediment samples from this Middle and Upper Pleistocene sequence were dated using the recuperated optically stimulated luminescence (Re-OSL) signal of quartz grains. The middle-size fraction (40–63 μm) shows a good reproducibility of the OSL signals which allows the application of a multiple-aliquot additive-dose approach for De determination. For all samples, the growth curves are linear up to an accumulated dose of 3000 Gy. The Re-OSL ages range from ~100 to ~450 ka and are in good agreement with the independent chronological information; they establish when handaxe industries have been made during the Middle and Upper Pleistocene in the Paris Basin.  相似文献

We report investigations of the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) signals of sedimentary quartz from different regions of Asia, Africa, Europe and North America using a single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) procedure. We show that variations in the shape of dose response curves (DRCs), or growth curves, of the test dose sensitivity-corrected OSL signals among single aliquots composed of multiple grains can be greatly reduced by normalising the DRCs using one of the regenerative dose OSL signals. We refer to this regenerative-dose normalisation procedure as ‘re-normalisation’. We find a common re-normalised DRC extends to doses of ∼250 Gy for samples that differ significantly in terms of geological provenance, sedimentary context and depositional age. This feature permits the development of a ‘global standardised growth curve’ (gSGC) for OSL signals from single aliquots of quartz. The equivalent dose (De) of an aliquot can be estimated from the natural signal, one regenerative dose signal and their corresponding test dose signals. For the variety of samples investigated, we find that De estimates obtained from the gSGC are consistent with those obtained using full SAR procedures for doses of up to ∼250 Gy. Use of the gSGC for single aliquots would greatly reduce the time required to estimate the De values of older samples and for a large number of aliquots.  相似文献
