The radii of several Ap and Am stars have been compared with those of the normal A stars of the Main Sequence. Though the brighter Ap stars have a little larger radii than the Main-Sequence stars, they may not be much different from those of the slightly evolved normal A stars. The Am stars have radii with which they appear to be merging with those of the cooler A stars of the Main Sequence. The Ap stars have radii predominantly in the range of 1.8 to 3.4R , while the Am stars are mainly concentrated between 1.8 and 2.2R .  相似文献

The effective temperatures of the classical Cepheids RT Aur and T Vul have been determined by a comparison of their spectral scans with appropriate model atmospheres. The radii of the stars have been determined through the Wesselink method. Using these temperatures and the Wesselink radii, the luminosities of the stars have been determined. These radii estimates, including the radii of SU Cas (Joshi & Rautela 1980) andζ Gem (unpublished) fit better in the theoretical period-radius relationship given by Cogan (1978), as compared to earlier determinations of Wesselink radii. The pulsation masses and evolutionary masses of the stars have been calculated. The pulsation to evolutionary mass ratio is derived to be 0.85. Based on the effective temperatures obtained by us at different phases of the stars aθ c ? (B-V)0 relationship is found of the form, \(\begin{gathered} \theta _e = 0.274 (B - V)_0 + 0.637 \\ \pm 0.011 \pm 0.007 \\ \end{gathered} \)   相似文献

Photometric BVRc observations of the stars CSS J223614+311343, V523 Aur and V783 And were carried out and their absolute parameters (masses, radii and luminosities) were determined based on light curve modeling and Gaia distances. The main results are: (i) The components of CSS J223614+311343 and V783 And are of K spectral type while those of V523 Aur are G stars; (ii) The three systems have middle fillout factors 0.20–0.29; (iii) CSS J223614+311343 and V783 And are of A-subtype while V523 Aur is of W-subtype; (iv) The common target masses are near the lower mass limit for the known W UMa binaries; (v) The smaller in size (and less massive) components of all targets locate above the MS band of the evolutional diagrams while the bigger components are within the MS band. The only exception is the bigger component of V523 Aur that is also above the MS band. This result was attributed to the W-subtype of the target.  相似文献

Strömgren uvby photometry has been observed for an additional 140 very metal-poor stars from the survey of Beers et al. (1992). These Galactic stars of very-low metallicity provide crucial information for the investigation of the formation and evolution of the Galaxy, as well as on the nature of the early Universe. The Strömgren uvby-β system allows the measurement of stellar atmospheric parameters as a prelude to detailed abundance studies which will make use of high-resolution spectroscopy and the new generation of large telescopes. The photometric techniques developed by Schuster et al. (1996) are used not only to classify these very metal-poor stars but also to derive effective temperatures, surface gravities, and improved estimates for their interstellar reddenings. In particular, photometric diagrams such as [c 1], [m 1] and c 0, (b-y)0 are used to classify these stars, especially those near the main-sequence turnoff, where contamination from slightly-evolved subgiants, lower surface-gravity horizontal-branch stars, and even a few supergiant or AGB candidates is found.  相似文献

Using the recently developed CORS method, applied to the photometric data of Walravenet al. (1964), we have determined improved radii for the three classical cepheids V381 Cen, V500 Sco, and SV Vel. These new determinations are in good agreement with theoretical computations for the center of the instability strip (Cogan, 1978). Some peculiar parameters are also computed, from the analysis of photometric data.  相似文献

Long-term homogeneous photometry for 35 classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) in the Taurus–Auriga star-forming region has been analyzed. Reliable effective temperatures, interstellar extinctions, luminosities, radii, masses, and ages have been determined for the CTTS. The physical parameters and evolutionary status of 35 CTTS from this work and 34 weak-line T Tauri stars (WTTS) from previous studies have been compared. The luminosities, radii, and rotation periods of low-mass (0.3–1.1 M ) CTTS are shown to be, on average, greater than those of low-mass WTTS, in good agreement with the evolutionary status of these two subgroups. The mean age of the younger subgroup of WTTS from our sample (2.3 Myr) essentially coincides with the mean duration of the protoplanetary disk accretion phase (2.3 Myr) for a representative sample of low-mass stars in seven young stellar clusters. The accretion disk dissipation time scale for the younger subgroup of CTTS (<4 Myr) in the Taurus–Auriga star-forming region is shown to be no greater than 0.4 Myr, in good agreement with the short protoplanetary disk dissipation time scale that is predicted by present-day protoplanetary disk evolution models.  相似文献

A large number of high-velocity stars was included in the Hipparcos Input Catalogue for the purpose of determining the galactic escape velocity in the solar vicinity. However, the `fastest' stars known, listed by Carney et al. (1994, CLLA) were not included because they are too faint. In the intersection between the CLLA list and the Hipparcos Catalogue (770 common stars), the metal-deficient stars with the most reliable parallaxes (fracσππ)HIP ≤ 0.15) are used for recalibrating CLLA absolute magnitudes and photometric parallaxes, using metallicities and VandenBerg et al. (1998) isochrones. In this way, about twenty non-Hipparcos stars get improved parallaxes and are added to our primary sample of Hipparcos high-velocity stars, for a better determination of the escape velocity from the Galaxy. The Tycho-2 proper motions and five-band Tycho-2 and 2MASS photometry for approximately 2.5 million common stars have been used to select OB stars and to determine the extinction and photometric distance for each of them. We have selected 37 485 stars and calculated their reddenings based on their positions in the two-color V T -H, J-Ks diagrams relative to the zero-age main sequence and the theoretical reddening line for B5 stars. Tests confirm that the selected stars belong to the spectral types O-B with a small admixture of later types. We calculate the extinction coefficient R and its variations with Galactic longitude based on the positions of the selected stars in the two-color B T -V T , V T -Ks diagram. The interstellar extinction for each star is calculated as the product of the reddening found and the coefficient R. The extinction and its variations with Galactic longitude agree well with the extinction based on the model by Arenou et al. (1992). Calibration of the relation between the absolute magnitude and reduced proper motion V T − + 5 + 5 log μ for Hipparcos stars has allowed us to calculate the absolute magnitudes and photometric distances for the selected stars. The distances found agree with those derived from the Hipparcos parallaxes within 500 pc. The distribution of the stars and the extinction variations with distance found show that the selected stars form an almost complete sample of stars with spectral types earlier than B5 within about 750 pc of the Sun. The sample includes many noticeably reddened stars in the first and second Galactic quadrants that are absent from the Hipparcos and Tycho Spectral Types Catalogues. This slightly changes the pattern of the distribution of OB stars compared to the classical pattern based on Hipparcos. Original Russian Text ? G.A. Apparent radius, visual brightness, effective temperature and absolute radius for 416 B5 v-F5 v stars of the catalogue of the Geneva Observatory (Rufener, 1976) have been determined.Twenty-eight stars, anomalous in log versus (m v)0 diagrams, have been singled out. A good correlation for seven stars, in common with the list of Hanbury Brownet al. (1974), has been found. Similar parameters determined for 279 B5 v-F5 v stars of two preceding papers (Fracassiniet al., 1973, 1975) have allowed us to determine the averaged diagrams logq v/q, logR/R and logT e versus (B-V)0 for 695 B5 v-F5 v stars.Moreover, in the present paper a good correlation logq v/q versus logR/R and careful relation M v=–7.40logR/R +3.31 for B5 v-F5 v stars have been determined. Plain correlations between logR/R and blanketing parameterm 2 for some spectral types seem to point out that there arereal differences in the absolute radii of stars of thesame spectral type, in agreement with recent researches on the HR diagram (Houck and Fesen, 1978).Systematic differences between double (spectroscopic and visual) and single stars are found. In particular, the averaged relation m 2 versus logR/R shows that A2 v-F5 v double stars may have a higher metallicity indexm 2 and smaller absolute radii than single stars. Observations of the Earth’s exosphere have unveiled an extended envelope of hydrogen reaching further than 10 Earth radii composed of atoms orbiting around the Earth. This large envelope increases significantly the opacity of the Earth to Lyman α (Lyα) photons coming from the Sun, to the point of making feasible the detection of the Earth’s transit signature from 1.35 pc if pointing with an 8 meter primary mirror space telescope through a clean line of sight (N H <?1017 cm??2), as we show. In this work, we evaluate the potential detectability of Earth analogs orbiting around nearby M-type stars by monitoring the variability of the Lyα flux variability. We show that, in spite of the interstellar, heliospheric and astrospheric absorption, the transit signature in M5 V type stars would be detectable with a dedicated Lyα flux monitor implemented in a 4–8 m class space telescope. Such monitoring programs would enable measuring the robustness of planetary atmospheres under heavy space weather conditions like those produced by M-type stars. A 2-m class telescope, such as the World Space Observatory, would suffice to detect an Earth-like planet orbiting around Proxima Centauri, if there was such a planet or nearby M5 type stars.  相似文献

The decay of a plasmon into two neutrinos in the presence of an intense magnetic field has been studied by Canutoet al. (1970). They suggest that one of the principal longitudinal plasmon modes, which occurs only in magnetized plasmas, would cause certain magnetic stars to cool more rapidly than their unmagnetized counterparts. We show here that this mechanism is inoperative since the plasmon mode involved cannot be excited in the direction parallel to the magnetic field as considered by Canutoet al. Moreover, for ωcp?1, we show that the other principal longitudinal plasmon mode considered earlier by Adamset al. (1963) (which is largely independent of the magnetic field) dominates the plasmon-neutrino decay cooling of magnetic stars.  相似文献

A review of selected photometric and spectrophotometric properties of magnetic stars is given. It is shown that unreddened B–V of magnetic stars around B9 type can be transformed to log Te using the calibration for normal stars and no systematic errors are introduced. Mechanisms of light variability are discussed. It is concluded that different mechanisms must be operating in different stars. Recently obtained photometric observations of short-period variability by KURTZ and Hβ variability by MADEJ et al. are discussed. An information about internal structure and the atmospheric structure of these stars can be derived from these observations.  相似文献

Long-term changes in two flare stars, EV Lac and BY Dra, have been detected by Mavridiset al. (1982). These long cyclic periods have been registered in theB-band at their quiescent-state luminosity as well as at their flare activity. Those observational data of the two previously mentioned flare stars as well as another observational data of the flare star, UV Cet, at its flare activity were submitted to our computer programme for periodicity detection excluding cyclic periods which have amplitudes less than tenth magnitude for great significance. Some of our results coincided with the long cyclic periods detected by Mavridiset al. (1982) while the remainder of our results have had no complete coincidence with those registered by Mavridiset al. (1982).  相似文献

The results of investigations of a number of eclipsing Wolf-Rayet binaries are presented. The ‘core’ radiuses, the ‘core’ temperatures and masses of WR stars in the eclipsing WR+OB binary systems V 444 Cyg, CX Cep, CQ Cep, and CV Ser are obtained (see Table I). The results obtained from the light curves analysis of the V 444 Cyg in the range λλ2460 Å-3.5μ give strong evidence for the Beals (1944) model of WR phenomenon. The chromospheric-coronal effects in the WN5 extended atmosphere are not observed up to a distance ofr?20R . In the Hertzsprung—Russell diagram all the WR stars lie on the left side from the main sequence between the main sequence and the sequence of uniform helium stars (see Figure 9). Their locations are close to those of the helium remnants formed as a result of mass exchange in massive close binary systems. The period variations in the systems V 444 Cyg and CQ Cep have been discovered and a reliable value of the mass loss rateM=10?5 M yr?1 is obtained, for the two WR stars. The results of the photometric and spectroscopic investigations of the WR stars with low mass companions (post X-ray binary stage?) are presented too (see Table II). The masses of the companions are (1–2)M , their optical luminosity is ~1036, erg s?1 which implies that these companions cannot be the normal stars. It is possible that these companions are neutron stars accreting from the stellar wind of the WR stars. Low values of the X-ray luminosities of such WR stars with low mass companions imply that the accretion of matter in such systems is distinct from the accretion process in classical X-ray binary systems. It is noted also that the parameters of low massive companions coupled with WR stars are close to those of helium stars.  相似文献

The first radial velocity curves for BS Vul have been obtained. Combined with new light curve data, simultaneous Roche-based light curve analyses have been carried out using the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney code. New values for the masses, radii, and luminosities have been obtained: M1 = 2.03 (8) M ʘ, M 2 = 0.68 (3) M ʘ, R1 = 1.71 (2) Rʘ, R2 = 1.03 (2) Rʘ, L1 = 5.4 (5) L ʘ, and L 2 = 0.41 (4) L ʘ. Comparison with re-modelled data from De Bernardi and Skaltriti (1979) revealed good agreement although temperature T2 there seemed to be significantly lower. There was also reasonable agreement with the results from the photometric analysis of Zhu et al. (2012). Reference to the sample of close binary stars from Yakut and Eggleton (2005) and the ZAMS suggests that both stars are evolved.  相似文献

The surface gravities and radii of stars are calculated for different MK spectral types using the masses of stars determined from their evolutionary tracks in the HR diagram and the most reliable values of effective temperatures and absolute bolometric magnitudes. MK spectral types are calibrated in absolute visual magnitudes using the studies ofM v published since 1965. The calibration of MK types in temperatures is based on the newest investigations including the results both from the ultraviolet and the infrared. The obtained masses, gravities, and the mass-luminosity relationship show reasonable agreement with independent observational data.  相似文献

Orbital period variation of the W UMa-type eclipsing binary, V899 Herculis, discovered by the Hipparcos satellite was investigated based on all available photoelectric and CCD times of light minimum. It is discovered that the orbital period of the binary shows a cyclic change with an amplitude of 0.0117 days. The cyclic period change can be explained as the light-travel time orbit of a tertiary component in the system, which is in agreement with the spectroscopic result obtained by Lu et al. [Lu, W., Rucinski, S.M., Ogloza, W., 2001. AJ 122, 402] who found that the system, of which V899 Herculis is a fainter component (B), is a triple, even quadruple and with the photometric result obtained by Özdemir et al. [Özdemir, S., Demircan, O., Erdem, A., Cicek, C., Bulut, I., Soydugan, E., Soydugan, F., 2002. A&A 387, 240] who reported a large amount of third light (L3  0.68) of the system. The third body (A) rotates around the eclipsing pair in a period of 3.7 years. Lu et al. [Lu, W., Rucinski, S.M., Ogloza, W., 2001. AJ 122, 402] reported that the tertiary component is F5-type main-sequence star. However, the present analysis shows that the mass of the third component is no less than 2.8 M, which is larger than the mass of an F5-type main-sequence star suggesting that the tertiary component may be a non-eclipsing close binary. Therefore, the system may be a possible unsolved quadruple system containing double close binary stars. It is a good astrophysical laboratory to study the formation and evolution of binary and multiple system. The timescale for the formation of the G-type overcontact binary (V899 Herculis) via AML should be shorter than the main-sequence time of an F5-type star.  相似文献

Most stars reside in binary/multiple star systems; however, previous models of planet formation have studied growth of bodies orbiting an isolated single star. Disk material has been observed around both components of some young close binary star systems. Additionally, it has been shown that if planets form at the right places within such disks, they can remain dynamically stable for very long times. Herein, we numerically simulate the late stages of terrestrial planet growth in circumbinary disks around ‘close’ binary star systems with stellar separations 0.05 AU?aB?0.4 AU and binary eccentricities 0?eB?0.8. In each simulation, the sum of the masses of the two stars is 1 M, and giant planets are included. The initial disk of planetary embryos is the same as that used for simulating the late stages of terrestrial planet formation within our Solar System by Chambers [Chambers, J.E., 2001. Icarus 152, 205-224], and around each individual component of the α Centauri AB binary star system by Quintana et al. [Quintana, E.V., Lissauer, J.J., Chambers, J.E., Duncan, M.J., 2002. Astrophys. J. 576, 982-996]. Multiple simulations are performed for each binary star system under study, and our results are statistically compared to a set of planet formation simulations in the Sun-Jupiter-Saturn system that begin with essentially the same initial disk of protoplanets. The planetary systems formed around binaries with apastron distances QB≡aB(1+eB)?0.2 AU are very similar to those around single stars, whereas those with larger maximum separations tend to be sparcer, with fewer planets, especially interior to 1 AU. We also provide formulae that can be used to scale results of planetary accretion simulations to various systems with different total stellar mass, disk sizes, and planetesimal masses and densities.  相似文献

Photometry of more than 1000 bright stars of 20 associations and some fields in its vicinity is made, usingUBV plates taken with a 2-m Ritchey-Chrétien telescope of the National Observatory at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with limited magnitudes of about 20.6 inU andV, 21.6 inB. The colour-magnitudes of about 20.6 inU andV, 21.6 inB. The colour-magnitude and colour-colour diagrams of 12 associations and 8 fields are constructed and the brightest blue and red stars colour excesses, ages, and integrated luminosities of the associations are determined. The composite diagrams for all association and nonassociation measured stars are constructed too. Inside associations bright stars as well as non-stellar objects occur more often than outside. The brightest stars in S5 are withM v7 and do not differ considerably from the brightest ones in the spiral arm S4 of M31. Approximately the same are the absolute magnitudes of the brightest stars in our Galaxy and M33. A small difference between the brightest stars of the latter galaxy with those of M31 is possible because the stars in M33 are younger. This is in agreement with the concept that Sc galaxies (for example M33) are younger than Sb ones (for example M31). The same could be the reason for the smaller ratio of blue to red supergiants in M33 than in M31. The age estimations of the associations in S5 together with those in S4 in M31 show that they are older than the associations in M33 which is in agreement with the above mentioned concept.  相似文献
