The article contributes to the ‘new’ European regionalism by discussing the role that regional identity can play in regional development. It is based on the concept of ‘regional identity’ as the keystone of the institutionalization of the region and as consisting of two intertwined and complementary components: the regional consciousness of the inhabitants and the identity of a region. Through the heuristic study of relevant scholarly articles, the authors critically discuss six case studies from European countries dealing with the relationship between regional identity and regional development and published in the first decade of the new millennium. To date, research has examined the role of regional identity as both a successful and unsuccessful driver in regional development. From the case studies, a third possible role of regional identity is identified: regional identity as a barrier to regional development. Further, the article discusses the relationship between these three roles and attempts to identify factors causing the differentiation of the effects of regional identity in the context of regional development.  相似文献

This paper analyses the role of graphic symbols in local representation and in the process of local identity formation. The extent of graphic symbols utilization by local development actors in the region, its importance for image formation of the locality (municipality) from the point of view of the local development actors and an assessment of the degree of identification with the municipal emblems among the local population are evaluated, based on the results of a corresponding survey targeted at municipal representatives. Municipal emblems tend to (and also should) have a local representative function. These should emphasize local specificity, uniqueness. Municipal emblems have a potential to play the role of connecting, mediating and activating factors also on a higher as well as a local level. Municipal emblems are still not used enough and in the right way by actors of municipality representations. These are often misunderstood and deemed unimportant for local development.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The fifty‐four Colorado Fourteeners–mountains more than 14,000 feet in elevation–were early symbols of westward expansion, mineral wealth, and wondrous scenery, and they are increasingly popular as environmental icons in place attachment at national, regional, state, and local scales. The symbolism of this contrived yet iconic collection of peaks is examined through the evolution of the Fourteener concept, the popularity of peakbagging, and the role of the Sawatch Range Fourteeners in creating a larger community identity. Elevation is the gatekeeper into the Fourteener club, in which a distinctive landscape iconography of shape, accessibility, and aesthetics reflects the role of idealized nature and mountains in place identity.  相似文献

Norway's regional structure is under debate as questions about territorial boundaries, scale, scope of tasks and responsibilities, and decision-making structures have become an issue in Norwegian politics. This tendency of changing the scale of public action with regard to governmental structures, economic politics, welfare, and civic society has been termed ‘new regionalism’. New regionalism often comes under criticism of being too neo-liberalistic or too economically orientated, leaving in its wake debates of democratic accountability and the neglect of ‘soft factors’ (i.e. socio-culture, identity, consciousness, and participation). In this article the authors investigate whether new democratic or semi-democratic regional organisations as advocated by new regionalist schemes require identification amongst the local population in order to be successful and enduring governmental structures. Further, it is shown how too simplistic understandings of the social processes, and their inherent power aspects, involved in the implementation of the new regionalist development scheme ‘Mountain Region’ distort the undertaking. The authors find that a more complex relational and contextual understanding is in demand, one in which regionalisation is not only recognised as a process which diffuses across time-space, but also takes an asymmetrical place across society's social fabric, and one where ‘soft factors’ such as ‘regional identity’ are not sidestepped.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

There is political interest in Sweden’s proximity to Norway, which is reflected in the regional policy focusing on developing business needs. As such, proximity at the regional level is simply expected to generate economic growth. The authors propose a holistic approach to spatial planning in a Swedish–Norwegian border region in place of the simplistic economic perspective. The aim of the article is to highlight the importance of adopting a bottom-up cross-border planning perspective that is based on the perceptions of the border region residents by showing that the proximity of Norway is important to communities in Värmland Province, on the border with Norway, in a different way from how regional authorities and policymakers perceive it. The authors used a qualitative method in their study. They found that residents were more interested in the individual, social, and cultural opportunities of the border, while authorities stressed traditional growth strategies. In conclusion, the authors recommend that policymakers should implement a bottom-up cross-border planning strategy (CBPS) in Värmland that includes the residents’ perspective, as a reinforcement of place-based policy approaches.  相似文献

Abstract

Crucial aspects of the referent phenomena which provide the subject matter for cartographic symbolism are often overlooked by map interpreters in their haste to “read maps at a glance.” The blame rests largely on those practitioners of the environmental sciences who stress the simple, intuitive nature of maps, while effectively ignoring the true complexity of the cartographic communication process. Those persons who are responsible for traditional map interpretation training programs are also at fault for implying, through long emphasis, that symbol identification, position location, and navigation constitute the essence of map analysis. The intuitive acceptability of map symbols in spite of their abstract character is also a deceptive factor. The fact that there is far “more than meets the eye” to map interpretation is easily demonstrated by looking closely at several basic cartographic symbols. In order to become an effective map user the environmental scientist apparently must go well beyond the mastery of conventional map reading principles and learn to deal with diverse informational dimensions in the context of the map use purpose and the physical/cultural make-up of the geographical region under study.  相似文献

基于空间生产理论,构建了“区域主体间的战略互动作为区域空间生产机制”的解析视角,对北京、上海两大中心城市及其外围地区的战略互动过程及区域空间发展绩效进行了深入比较分析,认为上海及其外围地区之所以能够成长为高度一体化的区域,同区域主体间持续采用相向型互动战略密切相关;而北京大都市阴影区的形成与长期固化,则与北京及外围地区之间长时期以来采用背离型互动战略直接相关。最后,从促进区域主体间积极战略互动的角度,讨论了减缓、化解大都市阴影区问题的可能路径。  相似文献

This paper reviews the directional shifts in human geographical research on Southeast Asia from 1945 to the present. It first begins with an overview of the identity of the region as conceived in various cultural traditions, such as the Greek, Arabic and Indian traditions. This is followed by an evaluation of regional geographies of Southeast Asia in the post-war period, highlighting the pre-eminence of the geostrategic definition of the region and the failure to come to grips with its rich cultural-historical identity. The paper then goes on to show that, arising from the changes in conceptual developments and methodologies in geography, the early regional emphasis then shifted to systematic concerns, with a movement away from ‘encyclopaedic’ to ‘adjectival’ geography (economic, urban, population, political, cultural and historical) and a greater emphasis on issues concerning national development. Since the 1980s, there have also been fewer regional works on Southeast Asia and though there are now many more indigenous geographers within the region, much of their research is based on their own national or provincial areas. However, this may shift again, given that rapid economic growth has now given the region prominence. Certainly, there is renewed multi-disciplinary interest in Southeast Asia.  相似文献

Abstract

How is the culture of Appalachia conveyed through its foods? Local experts in Appalachian counties were asked to create a hypothetical menu for a meal that was representative of their home region. Fried chicken and ham were the preferred main dishes and dessert selections focused on apple pie and peach or blackberry cobbler. Virtually everyone would serve iced tea. Other Appalachian specialties that appeared regularly included apple stack cake, ramps, and soup beans. Several tradition foods, survivors in isolated settings, are now being revived as symbols of regional identity and pride.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The development of globalisation has ushered in fundamental changes that have led to a break in the relationship between places of production and places of consumption, and sometimes a rejection of global products and corporations at the local level in accordance with neolocalism. The objective of the article is to examine the effect of regional identity on the local impacts of global processes by applying a multilevel analysis of the brewing industry, in which consumers are very sensitive to changes in the beer offered and can influence it, for example by putting pressure on representatives of restaurants. Beginning with extensive research on the international level, the authors point out the various impacts of brewery acquisitions in three Central European countries – Czechia, Poland and Slovakia – that differ regarding the role of beer in the identity of their inhabitants. Thereafter, they focus on two Czech beer brands, the production of which was relocated to other regions after acquisitions. Based on field studies in the regions of the brands’ original production, the authors find that both brands lost popularity among their original customers. They conclude that for Czech customers, the place of production may be an important factor when choosing a beer brand.  相似文献

旅游业的激烈竞争态势使区域旅游空间关系研究成为国内外旅游地理学的研究重点,其中竞争与合作是研究旅游区域之间空间关系最重要的两方面。回顾国内外相关文献,从旅游资源、旅游需求、旅游地形象定位与市场营销、旅游者信息查询行为、知识创新、网络联系与旅游地竞争力、特定旅游目的地的竞争力6方面对区域旅游空间竞争进行综述。目前区域旅游合作研究的热点主要集中在利益主体、企业之间的合作、公共与私有部门的合作以及旅游业与其他关联行业之间的合作等方面。多数研究是单纯对空间竞争或空间合作关系的探讨,而实际上旅游区域之间是竞争与合作并存的空间竞合关系。与近年来区域竞争力、产业竞争力和产业集群等研究热点相比较,国内外关于旅游产业竞争力、旅游区域竞争力和旅游企业集群的研究刚刚起步,对旅游区域之间空间竞合的模式、区域旅游竞合的深层机制和区域旅游空间作用过程的研究则更少,亟待深入探索。  相似文献

为了获得集群产业优势与区域品牌形成之间的作用机理,在回顾大量相关文献的基础上,从理论层面推导出集群产业优势的构成维度;通过对温州集群品牌的深访研究,获得维度构成和测量指标,印证和修正理论模型,开发量表和设计问卷;并以温州典型产业集群为例,对影响区域品牌形成的集群产业优势进行实证研究。结论证实集群产业优势的4个维度(成本优势、产品优势、创新优势和营销优势)对区域品牌形成均具有显著作用。  相似文献

以纪录片《舌尖上的中国》为数据来源,借助情感挖掘、语义网络分析以及扎根理论等方法探究食物景观对社会记忆的表征内容和塑造过程。研究结果表明:1)从情感分析结果来看,个体对食物景观的情感倾向总体呈现积极趋势,不同年龄、复杂的社会经历以及多元的社会角色是影响个体情感变化的重要因素,人们的情感认同形成了社会主流意识形态,并框定了社会记忆的发展方向;2)从个体对食物景观的认知诉求来看,食物味道、饮食文化以及家庭环境是个体内心最深刻的记忆点,人们通过各种与之相关的身体实践和仪式风俗构筑记忆空间;3)食物景观对社会记忆的表征内容具体区分为环境性记忆、功能性记忆和情感性记忆。其中,环境性记忆起基础性作用,功能性记忆是最主要的表征维度,情感性记忆占据主导地位,三者相互影响,相互促进。  相似文献

系统回顾西方尺度理论,尤其是尺度生产(尺度重构与尺度政治)理论,借此阐释中国城市区域治理形成的尺度逻辑。研究发现,中国城市区域包括城市群与都市区2个地理尺度;治理尺度是以行政权力为核心,形成自上而下的行政权力金字塔;治理尺度的动态重配并与地理尺度相耦合的过程是中国城市区域治理的尺度建构的本质;改革开放后,中国宏观政治经济在“去中心化-再中心化”过程中持续动态调整;中国城市区域的产生是国家空间选择性的结果,来克服以城市为基础的资本积累模式的体制危机;城市群治理以柔性尺度重构为主,都市区治理以刚性尺度重构为主;城市区域内部产生复杂的多主体间的尺度博弈。  相似文献

随着20世纪后半期以来,节庆以史无前例的规模复兴,在现代性的语境下,节庆与社区存续、复兴或衰亡的各种关系,成为文化地理关注的主题。文章从传统社区的延续与现代认同的重构、移民社区的再造与多元认同的杂糅、社区活力的再生与地方品牌的营销、社区秩序的重塑与地方权力的协商4个方面,对节庆与社区重构的关系进行分析。结论认为:节庆与社区重构之间具有紧密的关系,社区并没有被现代性力量所终结,而是以一种更加复杂化的形式存续和发展,或者延续传统的社区秩序,或者吸纳外来和创新要素重构出混杂的社区秩序,或者进行地方营销扩大社区影响;社区节庆则被全球化、市场化等现代性力量不断调整和创新。最后在此基础上进一步展望中国语境下的社区重构研究。  相似文献

民宿区别于传统酒店的核心价值是其能够结合地域文化资源,满足游客功能性与文化消费两方面需求。当前民宿空间的文化生产未能得到充分体现,同质化已经严重影响到民宿产业的健康发展。选取携程网和Airbnb平台的网络文本为样本空间,通过词频分析对民宿微空间的游客多重感知进行探索和解构。基于游客地方认同的情感表达,采用多元回归分析识别民宿微空间游客文化感知的内容体系和层次结构,并对游客文化感知与地方认同的关系进行实证检验。结果表明:① 游客文化感知高度依赖区域经济发展水平,经济发达地区的文化供给更为充分,游客文化感知和地方认同也愈发明显。② 游客文化感知与地方认同紧密相关。民宿微空间的文化感知包括地域文化、景观建筑、主题氛围、宗教艺术、历史记忆、人物符号六个维度,各维度指标对游客地方认同具有显著影响。③ 游客文化感知维度划分与传导路径为民宿微空间的文化生产以及游客地方认同的正向强化提供了思路启示与实践路径。  相似文献

The article investigates the potential and challenges of integrating geography with other school subjects. The analysis is based on the outcomes of a course that introduced the principles of discipline-based integration. The course was included in multicultural-class teacher education programme at the University of Helsinki. For a project within the course, the students worked in small groups and made short films that integrated three subjects – geography, physics, and visual arts – in order to evoke questions of space in children's minds. The students were asked to write essays in which they analysed their understanding of space from the three subjects’ viewpoints, describe the aims and contents of their short films, and lastly reflect on their experiences of the potential and possible problems in discipline integration. In this article, the authors analyse the students’ experience of the integration between the geography, physics, and visual arts. In general, the students experienced discipline-based integration as an interesting way of working. Moreover, the project seemed to deepen their understanding of different grounds for integrative pedagogy. Although the students reported some difficulties regarding the subject knowledge required for fruitful integration, the process enabled them to construct a better understanding of the identity of each discipline.  相似文献
