Nine Orbiter 3 high-resolution photographs were examined at three sites for distributions of boulders around craters 110 m in diameter; three kinds of distributions were noted. Some had boulders inside and far outside (designated), others had boulders only inside or on their ramparts (), and some had no detectable boulders (). Additionally, shapes or morphologies of craters were classified according to their resemblance to one of three Jaffe models (1965); a third classification involved the depth of particulate overlay (Jaffe, 1965). Crater morphologies were classified (A) if they were relatively shallow with sharp, raised rims, (B) if they were rimless and shallow, and (C) if they were relatively deep and had low, broad rims. The data suggested that there were strong relationships between crater types and boulder distributions in which, generally, A-type was related to the-distribution, B-type to-distribution, and C-type to-distribution. Plots of numbers of craters of each crater type and each kind of boulder distribution versus steps of overlay for each site and for the totality of craters considered indicated that neither boulder distribution nor crater type represented orderly progression of age or erosional evolution. The apparent overlays for the A's and C's and for the's and's were similar, implying similar ages or stages of erosion. It is suggested that they represent two kinds of primary craters and that the A's are of impact origin while the C's are of volcanic origin. The results of the experimental study of the interaction of polyethylene impactors with a massive flat organic-glass target are presented. The impactor speed ranged from 3.2 to 5.84 km/s. A statistical analysis of the mass and size distributions of fragments of the impact and chop craters of the target is done. As a result, some scaling relations are established for the geometric size of the craters, the cumulative ejected mass, the mass of the largest fragment ejected from the impact crater, and for the dust mass. The mass distribution of the impact-crater fragments is shown to obey a power law and agrees well with other authors" data for some materials. The critical impact energy k , resulting in the catastrophic disruption of the target into individual fragments, is estimated. For organic glass, the value of k is found to be 4 × 104J/kg. The mass of the largest (central) fragment accounts for 27 to 33% of the overall mass ejected from the impact crater. The use of the parameter 3= p / p v 2 0gives the best fit to the observational data for the masses released from the impact and chop craters.  相似文献

In the previously published Parts I and II of the paper, the author has constructed a formal long-periodic solution for the case of 11 resonance in the restricted problem of three bodies to 0(m 3/2), wherem is the small mass parameter of the system. The time-dependencet(, ,m), where is the mean synodic longitude and is related to the Jacobi constant, has been expressed by ahyperelliptic integral. It is shown here that with the approximationm=0 in the integrand, the functiont(, , 0) can be expanded in a series involving standardelliptic functions. Then the problem of inversion can be formally solved, yielding the function (t, , 0).Similarly, the normalized period (,m) of the motion can be approximated by theHagihara hyperelliptic integral (, 0), corresponding tom=0. This integral is also expanded into elliptic functions. Asymptotic forms for (, 0) are derived for 0 and for 1, corresponding to the extreme members of thetadpole branch of the family of orbits.  相似文献

This paper discusses formation of pathological cases of crater morphology due to interaction of craters with molten lavas. Terrestrial observations of such a process are discussed. In lunar maria, a number of small impact craters (D < 10 km) may have been covered by thin layers of fluid lavas, or formed in molten lava. Some specific lunar examples are discussed, including unusual shallow rings resembling experimental craters deformed by isostatic filling.Paper dedicated to Professor Harold C. The first part of the paper describes the relationship between the erosional stage of craters and the crater areal density. It is shown that class-2 and -3 craters are progressively more abundant as the crater areal density increases, while craters of class 4 and 5 are more abundant with decreasing crater areal densities. A geological model is proposed, in which the class of a newly foormed crater is 1. As time progresses, erosional agents will increase the class of the crater to class 2, then 3, and, in some cases, to 4. The length of time between classification steps is not known in terms of years, but is equivalent to the time necessary for the crater density to increase by 2 to 8 craters per unit area for creaters larger than 10 km, and by 10 to 20 for craters larger than 3.5 km. Craters of class 5 and some of class 4 are not formed by the same erosional agents, but are catastrophic, caused either by a mare-producing impact or by flooding of mare material.The second part of the paper presents a method for relatively dating large lunar areas. The method uses the model previously developed. A relative time sequence is constructed using the density of craters of classes 1, 2, and 3 and the percentage of these which is of class 1. As an example, 18 large areas are defined on the lunar near side and are put in temporal order. Mare Serenitatis appears to have the youngest terrain, and an area southwest of the Rupes Altai appears to have the oldest.In the final part of the paper a geological model is developed in order to explain age differences in the terrae. The model calls for rejuvenation of lunar terrains, caused by the seismic waves and ballistic sedimentation resulting from large impacts. The area surrounding Mare Orientale is cited as an example of a terrain so affected. A similar effect on the terrae of the near side could explain the apparent age relationships measured.  相似文献

The Earth tidal deformation causes an additional gravitational potential. Its effect on the Moon orbital motion has been studied by several authors.In this contribution, we develop this additional potential without specifying the inertial frame chosen.For this purpose, we use the properties of the representation of rotation groups in 3 dimensions space. A new model for the source distribution of galactic soft X-ray (B and C band) emission is presented. From the mean dependence of count rates on galactic latitudeb (i.e., the brightness distribution), we derive the soft X-ray source functionQ as function of the optical depth by solving the equation of radiative transfer with the aid of a Laplace transform. Contrary to older Heaviside step models,Q is found to increase strongly, but not abruptly, in the range 1.5<<2.5, indicating a noticeable emission of X-rays from beyond theHi scale height. Using standard X-ray absorption cross-sections for the interstellar medium, we find that the B band X-ray emission coefficient is non-zero within theHi disk and has a maximum at az-value slightly above the Hi scale height. In the C band, the emission coefficient slightly decreases with increasingz, at least up to theHi scale height. A non-zero source function near the galactic plane implies that the interstellar medium (ISM) within theHi scale height is not only an absorbing layer but is mixed with X-ray emitting regions. The so-called local hot bubble is adopted as one of these regions. The maximum of the B band emission coefficient, together with the sharp increase ofQ, is strong evidence for the existence of a galactic soft X-ray halo, and, moreover, give rise to the assumption of a general intergalactic X-ray background. The effective absorption cross-sections given in the literature, based on an (pure) exponential dependence in the negative correlation between count rates andHi column densities, were biased to be too small, in particular in the B band. In replacing the Heaviside step (in the ISM) by a smoothed transition region, these inconsistencies become spurious.  相似文献

There exist several widely used methods that give a qualitative estimation of the accuracy of the results in the numerical solution of theN-body problem. The reverse and closure tests are examined here critically. The author has developed a method for the estimation of global errors propagated in the numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations that has proven to be rather efficient in numerous cases (see P. E. Zadunaisky [17]). Applications of the method to several cases of theN-body problem are presently made and the advantages and limitations of the method are shown in a set of examples.  相似文献

Cyclotron waves in the solar wind near 1 AU with frequencies well below the electron cyclotron frequency and wavelengths much larger than the electron cyclotron radius but less than the proton cyclotron radius are considered. The cyclotron radii are defined from parallel thermal velocity of electron component and proton component with respect to the interplanetary magnetic field. No LH cyclotron waves are found to propagate for p < 0, where p 1 –T p/T p is the temperature anisotropy of the proton component with respect to the interplanetary magnetic field. The damping or growth of RH cyclotron waves is found to depend on the frequency range and the temperature anisotropy of the proton component. The RH cyclotron waves are damped in the frequency range r | p | p for p < 0, where p is the proton cyclotron frequency. RH cyclotron instabilities occur in the frequency range | p | p > r > | p | p /(1– r ) for p < 0. The anomalously high number of craters with diameter less than 2.8 km, the igneous nature of rocks from the Apollo landing sites, and the possibility of outgassing magmas in the lunar crust, suggest that fluidization may be a viable mechanism for producing many of the smaller lunar craters, Fluidization craters were formed in the laboratory by blowing gas through various thicknesses of particulate material. Gas pressure, regolith thickness, and the duration of gas streaming were controlled over practical experimental limits and compared with the resultant crater morphology. Low to moderate fluidization pressures on coarsely crushed limestone (Mø = 0.40, So = =0.50) with low cohesion (ø - 43°) produced bowl shaped, basin shaped, and flat bottomed craters. Bowl shaped craters change into basin shaped and/or flat bottomed craters with long durations of gas streaming. Cone, funnel, and flat-funnel shaped craters are indicative of high fluidization pressures. Craters formed in finely crushed limestone (Mø - 1.55, So - 0.85) that is electrostatically charged by the streaming gas, are flat bottomed. Terraced craters develop from slumping during and after the discontinuation of gas flow. Central mounds inn terraced craters result from slumping into a confined space. In particulate material, fluidization craters have high circularity and axial symmetry, similar to those produced by impact. The use of an impact model and crater morphology (normal, flat bottomed, and concentric) for estimating lunar regolith depth is questioned because similar craters can be produced by fluidizationn processes in a thicker regolith.On leave at the Earth Physics Branch, Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources, Ottawa, Canada.  相似文献

It is shown that the cosmological interpretation of the red shift in the spectra of quasars leads to yet another paradoxical result: namely, that the Earth is the center of the Universe. On the basis of more abundant data a relation logPV/logR for cepheid variables (Fernie, 1965) is constructed. A linear relation between logP V and logR for classical cepheids is found, which perhaps has a break at R=10R . On the logR/logP diagram thes-cepheids (Efremov, 1968) show a distinct sequence. Alls-cepheids present a relative variation of the radii R/R0.075. The existence of non-s-cepheids with R/R0.075 raises a point about the evolutionary place of these stars (see Efremov, 1968). One could suppose that cepheids with logP>1.1 pulsate in the first overtone.  相似文献

Relative abundances in the region 74Z83 (W to Bi) are determined for 73 Dra, HR 4072, and some other Ap stars. Abundance peaks occur at atomic massesA=191±2 on 73 Dra, atA=201±3 on HR 4072, atA=199±5 on other main group Ap stars, and atA=201±2 on Mn stars. Pb has a relatively low abundance on Ap stars and also in cosmic rays which have an abundance peak atA=193±3. The abundance peaks on main group Ap stars are due to the cyclicr-process which occurred in explosions of former companion stars. Fission products of transuranic elements are recycled by further rapid neutron captures. At the end of ther-process, the high neutron flux decreases gradually so that the final -decays take place in a neutron-rich environment; superheavy elements (Z110) formed in ther-process may be partly destroyed by neutron-induced fission. The pulsar remnants of the explosions accelerater-process elements to cosmic-ray energies. The peak atA 201 on Mn stars is discussed briefly.  相似文献

Ther-centroids and Franck-Condon factors for the bands of theA 2X 2+ of CP,C 3X 3 of SiC, andB 2+X 2+ of CO+ molecules have been determined. For a random motion picture within protogalaxies, should follow a Maxwellian distribution and consequently the dispersion of log should be 0.210.For the reasonable range of ( to 2), the limited sample of galaxies with known dynamical parameters gives between and 1 times the Maxwellian value. For the plausible special case =2 the reciprocal of the maximum rotational velocityv m is already a measure of and the larger sample ofv m-values not only yields the Maxwellian but, moreover, shows the shape of the distribution.

The24MgH+ (A 1+X 1+) molecular lines have been identified in the photospheric spectrum. The rotational excitation temperature determined from the analysis of molecular line intensities of24MgH+ is found to be of the order of 4850 K which corresponds to the photospheric temperature of the Sun. The CNDO/2 dipole moments of24MgH+ for internuclear distance range: (1.3–2.1) Å in theX 1+ state can be approximated byM(R)=4.92+1.33R. Estimations for the spontaneous emission Einstein coefficients (A v v ) and the absorption oscillator strengths (f v v ) for the (1, 0), (2, 0), and (2, 1) transitions in theX 1+ state of the24MgH+ ion are also made.Work partially supported by the CNPq, Brasilia under contract number 30.4076/77.  相似文献

Using the flux-transport equation in the absence of sources, we study the relation between a highly peaked polar magnetic field and the poleward meridional flow that concentrates it. If the maximum flow speed m greatly exceeds the effective diffusion speed /R, then the field has a quasi-equilibrium configuration in which the poleward convection of flux via meridional flow approximately balances the equatorward spreading via supergranular diffusion. In this case, the flow speed () and the magnetic field B() are related by the steady-state approximation () (/R)B()/B() over a wide range of colatitudes from the poles to midlatitudes. In particular, a general flow profile of the form sin p cos q which peaks near the equator (q p) will correspond to a cos n magnetic field at high latitudes only if p = 1 and m = n /R. Recent measurements of n 8 and 600 km2 s–1 would then give m 7 m s–1.  相似文献

The location and the stability of the libration points in the restricted problem have been studied when small perturbation and are given to the Coriolis and the centrifugal forces respectively. It is seen that the pointsL 4 andL 5 form nearly equilateral triangles with the primaries and the pointsL 1,L 2,L 3 remain collinear. It is further observed that for the pointsL 4 andL 5, the range of stability increases or decreases depending upon whether the point (, ) lies in one or the other of the two parts in which the (, ) plane is divided by the line 36-19=0 and the stability of the collinear points is not influenced by the perturbations and they remain unstable.  相似文献
