Effects of Hall current on the hydromagnetic free-convection resulting from the combined effects of thermal and mass diffusion of an electrically conducting liquid past an infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating frame of reference have been analysed. As the mean steady flow has been presented in Part I, only the solutions for the transient primary and secondary velocity profiles, transient temperature profiles in the boundary layer and the transient skin friction, the transient rate of heat transfer on the plate are presented in this work. The influence of the different parameters entering into the problem are discussed.  相似文献

An analysis of Hall and ion-slip current effects on the MHD free-convection flow of a partiallyionised gas past an infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating frame of reference is carried out. A strong magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plate and the plate temperature oscillates in time about a constant non-zero mean. The problem has been solved for the velocity and temperature fields and the effects of e (the Hall parameter), i (the ion-slip parameter),E r (rotation parameter), and have been discussed and shown graphically.  相似文献

Effects of magnetic field and permeability of the porous medium on unsteady forced and free-convection flow past an infinite vertical porous plate in presence of temperature-dependent heat source have been analysed. The Laplace transform method is used to obtain the expression for velocity field, skin friction, and leading edge effects. During the course of discussion, the effects ofM (magnetic parameter),S (heat source parameter), (suction parameter), andK (permeability of porous medium) on velocity field, skin friction, and leading edge effect have been extensively discussed.  相似文献

An analysis of a two-dimensional steady-free convection and mass transfer flow of an incompressible, viscous, and electrically conductive non-Newtonian fluid through a porous medium bounded by a vertical infinite limiting surface (plane wall) has been presented in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Approximate solutions to the coupled nonlinear equations governing the flow are derived and expression for the velocity, temperature, concentration, the rate of heat transfer, and the skin-friction are derived. Effects of Gr (Grashof number), Gm (modified Grashof number),M * (non-Newtonian parameter),N (magnetic parameter), and permeabilityK of the porous medium on the velocity, the skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer are discussed when the surface is subjected to a constant suction velocity.  相似文献

The thermosolutal instability of a plasma with finite Larmor radius and Hall effects is studied. When the instability sets in as stationary convection, finite Larmor radius effects are always stabilizing forx(=k 2 d 2/2 greater than two and forx less than two, they have a stabilizing or destabilizing influence depending on the Larmor radius parameterN in the presence of Hall currents. On the other hand the Hall currents have both stabilizing and destabilizing effects on the thermosolutal instability forx less than two and forx greater than two depending on the Hall parameterM. The stable solute gradient is found to have a stabilizing effect on stationary convection. The case of overstability is also considered wherein the sufficient conditions for the non-existence of overstability are derived.  相似文献

Collapse calculations indicate that the hot young neutron stars rotate differentially so that strong toroidal magnetic field components should exist in the outer shell where also the Hall effect appears to be important when the Hall parameter = ωBτ exceeds unity. The amplitudes of the induced toroidal magnetic fields are limited by the current‐induced Tayler instability. An important characteristics of the Hall effect is its distinct dependence on the sign of the magnetic field. We find for fast rotation that positive (negative) Hall parameters essentially reduce (increase) the stability domain. It is thus concluded that the toroidal field belts in young neutron stars induced by their differential rotation should have different amplitudes in both hemispheres which later are frozen in. Due to the effect of magnetic suppression of the heat conductivity also the brightness of the two hemispheres should be different. As a possible example for our scenario the isolated neutron star RBS 1223 is considered which has been found to exhibit different X‐ray brightness at both hemispheres (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Hall effects on the hydromagnetic free convection resulting from the combined effects of thermal and mass diffusion of an electrically conducting liquid past an infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating system have been analysed. The expressions for the mean velocity, mean temperature in the boundary layer and the mean skin friction, the mean rate of heat transfer on the plate are derived. The effects of magnetic parameterM, Hall parameterm, Schmidt number Sc, and Ekman numberE on the flow field, are discussed with the help of graphs and tables.  相似文献

Thermosolutal instability of a rotating plasma with finite Larmor radius and Hall effects is studied. When the instability sets in as stationary convection, the Hall currents and the stable solute gradient are found to have destabilizing and stabilizing effects, respectively. For the case of no rotation, finite Larmor radius effects are always stabilizing forx greater than two and forx less than its critical valueN cr. In the limit of vanishing Hall current, the stabilizing effect of Coriolis force is observed. The question of onset of instability as overstability is also discussed.  相似文献

The flow of an infinitely extending homogenous thermally conducting plasma permeated by a variable magnetic field is considered. The combined effect of several physical parameters, namely Hall currents, finite conductivity, ion viscosity and thermal conductivity on plasma instability is studied in the framework of Tsallis statistics. A new Jeans Criterion is derived, which depends explicitly on the nonextensive parameter q. The standard values are obtained in the limiting case q=1.  相似文献

Thermal instability of a finitely conducting hydromagnetic composite medium is considered including the effects of Hall currents and the collisions with neutrals. The equilibrium magnetic field is assumed to be uniform and vertical. For stationary convection, the collissions have no effect, while the Hall currents are found to have a destabilizing effect on the thermal instability. It is further shown that whenM is finite andQ the asymptotic behaviours of the critical Rayleigh number, the critical wave number and the critical temperature gradient remain the same as those obtained by Chandrasekhar whereM is a nondimensional number which includes the Hall current effects andQ stands for the Chandrasekhar number.  相似文献

Effect of Hall current on the hydromagnetic free-convection flow of an electrically-conducting viscous incompressible fluid past an impulsively accelerated vertical porous plate in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field subjected to a constant transpiration velocity is analyzed for the case of small magnetic Reynolds number. Numberical solutions are obtained for the axial and transverse components of the velocity as well as the skin-friction by employing the Crank-Nicolson implicit finite-difference method for all probable values of the Prandtl number. The results are discussed with the effects of the Grashof number Gr, the transpiration velocity parameter , the Hall current parameterm, and the magnetic field parameterM for the Prandtl number Pr=0.71 which represents air at 20° C.  相似文献

The thermosolutal instability of a plasma in porous medium in the presence of a vertical magnetic field is considered to include the effects of compressibility and Hall currents. The effects of stable solute gradient and compressibility are found to be stabilizing and the Hall currents have a destabilizing effect. The system is stable for (C p/g)<1;C p, , andg denoting specific heat at constant pressure, uniform temperature gradient, and acceleration due to gravity, respectively. In contrast to the non-oscillatory modes in the absence of magnetic field and stable solute gradient, the presence of magnetic field (and, hence, Hall currents) and stable solute gradient introduce oscillatory modes for (C p/g)>1. The case of overstability is also studied wherein the necessary conditions for the existence of overstability are obtained.  相似文献

Unsteady two-dimensional hydromagnetic free convection and mass transfer flow of an electrically-conducting viscous-incompressible fluid, through a highly porous medium bounded by a vertical plane surface of constant temperature is considered. The free-stream velocity of the fluid vibrates about a mean constant value and the surface absorbs the fluid with constant velocity. Expressions for the velocity, temperature, concentration are obtained. Effects of Gr (Grashof number), Gm (modified Grashof number),K (permeability of the porous medium), (frequency parameter), andM (magnetic parameter) upon the velocity field are discussed.  相似文献

There have been considered the effects of external temperature-dependent heat sources and mass transfer on free convection flow of an electrically conducting viscous fluid past an impulsively starting infinite vertical limited surface in presence of a transverse magnetic field as considered. Solutions for the velocity and skin-friction, in closed form are obtained by using the Laplace transform technique and the results obtained for various values of the parametersS c (Schmidt number),M (Hartmann number), andS (Strength a Source or Sink) are given in graphical form. The paper is concluded with a discussion on the obtained results.  相似文献

In this analysis, the velocity and temperature distributions on free convective heat generating rarefied gas in a rotating frame of reference are analysed for the case when a strong magnetic field is imposed in a plane which makes an angle with the normal to the plate. The effects of Hall currentm, heat source parameter and rarefaction have been discussed graphically followed by a discussion.  相似文献

In this work we present the two-dimensional free convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid past an infinite vertical limiting surface (porous wall) for the Stokes's problem when the fluid is subjected to a constant suction velocity. The flow is normal to the porous wall and the free stream oscillates about a mean value. As the mean steady flow has been presented in Part I, only the solutions for the transient velocity profiles, transient temperature profiles, the amplitude and the phase of the skin friction and the rate of heat transfer are presented in this work. As in the case of mean steady flow, the influence of the Grashof numberG and Eckert numberE on the unsteady flow field is discussed for air (P=0.71) and water (P=7) and for the cases of externally heating and cooling the porous limiting surface by free convection currents.  相似文献
