The adsorption of heavy metals onto treated Azolla filiculoides by H2O2/MgCl2, as a cosmopolitan free-floating waterfern, was investigated from aqueous solutions in the batch biosorption experiments. The maximum uptake capacities of the collected Azolla from rice field at the optimal conditions for Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn ions were approximately 228, 86, 62 and 48 mg/g (dry Azolla), respectively. On the other hand, the maximum uptake capacities of the collected Azolla from the Anzali International Wetland in the north part of Iran at the same conditions for these heavy metals were about 124, 58, 33 and 34 mg/g (dry Azolla), respectively. Such decrease of uptakes is due to the pollution of Anzali International Wetland, which reduces the capacity uptake of metals. The recovery of biosorbed heavy metals from the rice field Azolla was carried out by HCl and NaCl desorbents that the recovery of 64–86% and 51–72% was occurred, respectively.  相似文献

Removal of Lead,Copper, Zinc and Cadmium from Water Using Phosphate Rock   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Removal of Pb^2+, Cu^2+, Zn^2+ and Cd^2+ from aqueous solutions by sorption on a natural phosphate rock (FAP) was investigated. The effects of the contact time and initial metal concentration were examined in the batch method. The percentage sorption of heavy metals from solution ranges generally between 50% and 99%. The amount of sorbed metal ions follows the order Cu〉Pb〉Cd〉Zn. Heavy metal immobilization was attributed to both surface complexation of metal ions on the surface of FAP grains and partial dissolution and precipitation of a heavy metal-containing phosphate. The very low desorption ratio of heavy metals further supports the effectiveness of FAP as an alternative and low-cost material to remove toxic Pb^2+, Cu^2+, Zn^2+ and Cd^2+ from polluted waters.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to delineate the hydrochemistry for a small island based on the major ions and heavy metal concentrations. In this investigation, six sampling campaigns were conducted to measure the concentrations of major ions (Ca, Mg, Na, K, HCO3, Cl, and SO4) and heavy metals (Zn, Cr, Pb, Mn, As, and Cu) in groundwater samples collected from seven sampling stations (boreholes) located on Kapas Island, Terengganu, Malaysia. The distribution of major ions is illustrated by a piper plot where Ca–HCO3 is the dominant type. In addition, the concentrations of heavy metals demonstrate that Mn shows as being the highest concentrated heavy metal in the groundwater sampled in the sampling campaigns; the average Mn content in groundwater sampled was 54.05 μg/L. However, a comparison of the heavy metal (Mn, Cr, Zn, As, Pb, and Cu) concentrations in groundwater samples with the Drinking Water Quality Standard prescribed by World Health Organization reveals that none of these heavy metals exceeded the recommended threshold limits. The principal component analyses (PCA) extracted four components that control the groundwater chemistry. Components 1 and 2 from the PCA analyses extracted approximately 52.11 % of the total variance, which represent the heavy metals (As and Mn) and physical parameters (pH, redox potential, electrical conductivity, temperature, and total dissolved solids). Based on the output of the PHREEQC hydrogeochemical software, several species of heavy metals exist, in which the dominant species found are Mn2+, PbCO3, Cu(OH)2, and Zn+.  相似文献

The impacts of common ions on the adsorption of heavy metal   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Researches on the impact of common ions onto sediments are of great importance for the study of the heavy metal adsorption mechanisms. Considering the surface sediments from the relatively clean reach in the Baotou section of the Yellow River as the adsorbent, this work presents the impacts of common ions (Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, Cl, SO4 2−, and NH4 +) on heavy metals (Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+) adsorption. The experimental results reveal that the adsorptive capacities of the heavy metals are controlled by different adsorption mechanisms in different ion concentration ranges. With the increase of the ionic strength, the adsorption of the heavy metals increases for the compression of the electric double layer, whereas decreases for the decreasing of the ionic activities of the heavy metals. The competitive adsorption and complexations between the heavy metals and common ions are also important factors controlling the heavy metal adsorption. According to the experimental results and the real concentration of common ions in the Baotou section of the Yellow River, the increase of the concentrations of Na+, Mg2+, K+, and Ca2+ would cause the increase of Zn2+ adsorption and reduce the Zn pollution. The NH4 + from the industrial discharge of the tributaries has a strong impact on the heavy metal adsorption.  相似文献

The hydrochemical characteristics and quality of groundwater in Lokoja basement area have been evaluated based on different indices for assessing groundwater for drinking and irrigation purposes. Twenty groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for physicochemical parameters, major ions and heavy metals. The results revealed that the groundwater is slightly alkaline, with little variations in chemical composition. For example, electrical conductivity (EC) ranges from 242μS/cm to 1835μS/cm. The abundance of the major ions is in the order of Ca2+ >Na+>Mg2+>K+> Fe2+/3+ = HCO3 >Cl? >NO3 >SO4 >PO4. Based on the hydrochemical data, four hydrochemical facies were identified namely, Ca-Mg-HCO3, Na-K-HCO3, Na-K-Cl-SO4 and Ca-Mg-Cl-SO4 and these facies depict groundwater recharge zone, transition flow zone, deep flow zone and mixed water zone respectively. Groundwater from the area is unsuitable for drinking and domestic purposes as some of the ions and heavy metals of health concerns are well above the stipulated guideline values. Irrigation water quality indicators (salinity, Na % and Mg %), reveal that the groundwater is unsuitable for irrigation purposes. Interpreted statistical analysis reveals that the groundwater chemical compositions are controlled predominantly by weathering of litho units of the basement rocks and by drainage from domestic wastes.  相似文献

Deepawali is one of the main festivals for Hindu religion which falls in the period October–November every year with great fireworks display. In this study, we investigated the levels of water soluble ions and heavy metals—during the fireworks festival in Rajnandgaon, Central India. The chemical compositions and noise level distributions are reported from the sampling site. First time during Deepawali, air quality was studied in this area, The Aerosol samples of PM10 (particle aerodynamic diameter <10 μm) are collected in October 24–28, 2011. Aims of the present studies are (1) To describe the particulate concentrations and associated chemical species during Deepawali festival, (2) To recognize the noise level in Deepawali festival. For study, the samples were collected in glass fiber filter paper and analyzed for the major water soluble ions F?, Cl?, NO3 ?, SO4 2?, Na2+, NH4 +, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ employing ion chromatograph. Concentration of heavy metals was analyzed by ICP-MS and was observed to occur in order Fe > Zn > Pb > Ni > Cr > Cd. The result revels that all concentration are above the permissible limit fixed by CPCB, USPEA, and WHO standard. It is concluded that the burning of fireworks during Deepawali festival was the main source of heavy metals and ion.  相似文献

Heavy metal ions (Pb2+, Cd2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+) were biosorbed by brown seaweed (Hizikia fusiformis), which was collected from Jeju Island of South Korea. The metal adsorption capacity of H. fusiformis improved significantly by washing with water or by base or acid treatments. The maximum sorption by NaOH-pretreated biomass was observed near a slightly acidic pH (pH 4?6) for Pb2+, Cd2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+. This result suggests that the treatment of H. fusiformis biomass with NaOH helped increase the functional forms of carboxylate ester units. Kinetic data showed that the biosorption occurred rapidly during the first 60 min, and most of the heavy metals were bound to the seaweed within 180 min. The maximum metal adsorption capacities assumed by a Langmuir model were on the order of Pb2+ > Cd2+ > Ni2+ > Zn2+. Equilibrium adsorption data for the heavy metal ions could fit well in the Langmuir model with regression coefficients R 2 > 0.97.  相似文献

Chemical compositions of snow from Mt. Yulong, southeastern Tibetan Plateau   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The snow and ice in Mt. Yulong offer a unique opportunity to investigate changes in climate and large scale atmospheric circulations over Asia. During February and April 2012, surface snow samples were collected from the Baishui Glacier No. 1 at different altitudes along the eastern slope of Mt. Yulong. Two snowpits were also excavated from Mt. Yulong at altitudes of 4780 and 4730 m a.s.l. in February 2012. The concentrations of inorganic ions were higher at an elevation of 4506 m a.s.l. in the glacier with significant contribution of anthropogenic (mainly NH\(_{4}^{\mathrm {+}}\), SO\(_{4}^{\mathrm {2-}}\), NO\(_{3}^{\mathrm {-}})\) and crustal (mainly Ca 2+) constituents. Concentration of HCOO ? in surface snow exhibited large variability, ranging from 0.04 to 6.8 μeq L ?1, attributed to dominant contribution from biomass burning emissions. Ion balance (ΔC) and Na +/Cl ? calculations indicated an excess of cations (particularly higher Ca 2+ concentrations) and Cl ? in snow, considering the sea-salt ratio, respectively. Monsoon season (June–September) ion concentrations in snowpit samples were generally two-fold lower than in other seasons. Principal component analysis was used to identify different sources of ions. Three main factors, accounting for more than 80% of the total variance, were related to different sources, including agricultural activities, biomass burning, and crustal aerosols.  相似文献

Biosorption is a promising technology for the removal of heavy metals from industrial wastes and effluents. In the present study, biosorption of Pb2+, Cu2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+ onto the dried biomass of Eucheuma denticulatum (Rhodophyte) was investigated as a function of solution pH, contact time, temperature and initial metal ion concentration. The experimental data were evaluated by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models. The sorption isotherm data followed Langmuir and Freundlich models, and the maximum Langmuir monolayer biosorption capacity was found as 81.97, 66.23, 51.02 and 43.48 mg g?1 for Pb2+, Cu2+, Fe2+ and Zn2+, respectively. The sorption kinetic data followed pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models. Thermodynamic study revealed feasible, spontaneous and endothermic nature of the sorption process. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed the presence of amine, aliphatic, carboxylate, carboxyl, sulfonate and ether groups in the cell wall matrix involved in metal biosorption process. A total of nine error functions were applied in order to evaluate the best-fitting models. We strongly suggest the analysis of error functions for evaluating the fitness of the isotherm and kinetic models. The present work shows that E. denticulatum can be a promising low-cost biosorbent for removal of the experimental heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Further study is warranted to evaluate its potential for the removal of heavy metals from the real environment.  相似文献

Environmental pollution in the Kongjujeil mine creek was determined on the basis of physicochemical and mineralogical properties for various kinds of waters, soils, precipitates and sediments collected in August and December 1998. The hydrochemistry of water is characterized by an enrichment in concentrations of Ca 2+, Si, alkali ions, NO 3 - and Cl - in ground and surface water, where relatively the mine waters are significantly enriched in Ca 2++Mg 2+, Al, heavy metals and SO 4 2- concentrations. The mine waters have lower pH (3.24) and higher EC (613 µS/cm) compared with those of ground and surface water. The ranges of dD and d 18O values (SMOW) in the water are -50.2 to -61.6‰ and -7.0 to -8.6‰. Using a computer code, the saturation indices of albite, calcite and dolomite in the mine water show that it is undersaturated, and has progressively evolved toward the equilibrium state. Ground and surface water are nearly saturated. The gibbsite, kaolinite and smectite are supersaturated in the surface and groundwater. Geochemical modeling shows that mostly toxic metals exist largely in the form of metal sulfates and free metals in mine water. These metals in the surrounding fresh water could be formed of carbonate or hydroxide complex ions. Minerals within the soil and sediment near the mining area were partly variable consisting of quartz, mica, alkali feldspar, plagioclase, chlorite, vermiculite, berthierine and clay minerals. The separated heavy minerals, soil and sediment are composed of some pyrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, malachite, goethite and various hydroxide minerals. Some potentially toxic elements (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Sb and Zn) are found in extremely high concentrations in the surface soils in the vicinity of the mine. The enrichment index of heavy metals in sediment and surface soil of the mine drainage was very severe, while it was not so great in the cultivated soil.  相似文献

The interaction between minerals and heavy metals has been a hot object of study in environmental science, mineralogy and soil science,Through the selective adsorption experiment of Ca-montomorillonite,illite and kaolinite to Cu2 ,Pb^2 ,Zn^2 ,Cd^2 ,and Cr^3 ions at certain conditions,it could be concluded that Cr^3 is most effectively sorbed by all the three minerals. Also,it can be found that Pb^2 shows a strong affinity for illite and kaolinite while cu^2 for montmorillonite .Based on the adsorption experiment at varying pH of solution,it can be found that the amount of heavy etals sorbed by minerals increases with increasing pH of the solution.  相似文献

A new organic/inorganic composite based on polyacrylonitrile and stannic molybdophosphate (PAN–SMP) as an adsorbent was synthesized under various conditions. The physicochemical properties of this material were specified by elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry studies. The synthesized material was found to be stable in demineralized water, in dilute acids, under gamma radiation up to the total radiated of 100 kGy doses and in high temperature up to 500 °C. Ion exchange capacity of the synthesized composite and its distribution coefficient (K d) for several metal ions were determined. The results showed that PAN–SMP has a great affinity toward some metal ions such as Tl+, Sr2+, Ba2+, UO2 2+ and La4+. Based on the determined K d values, two binary quantitative separations of metal ions (Cr6+ from Cu2+ and Pb2+ from Cu2+) have been achieved on columns of this ion exchanger. The ability of PAN–SMP to decontaminate low-level liquid waste was also investigated.  相似文献

This paper investigates the potential of alginate-immobilised Chlorella sorokiniana for removing Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions from drinking water solutions. The effects of initial metal concentrations, contact times and temperatures on the biosorptions and removal efficiencies of the tested metals were investigated at initial pH values of 5, and pH effects were studied within the range of 3–7. When studying the effects of initial metal concentrations, the highest experimental removal yields achieved for Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions were 97.10, 50.94 and 64.61 %, respectively. The maximum biosorption capacities obtained by the Langmuir isotherm model for the biosorptions of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ ions by alginate-immobilised C. sorokiniana were found to be 179.90, 86.49 and 164.50 mg/g biosorbent, respectively. The experimental data followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. At an initial metal concentration of 25 mg/L, immobilised algae could be used in at least 5 successive biosorption–desorption cycles. SEM and EDS analyses revealed that the metals bonded to the biosorbent. Bi- and multi-metal systems of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Cd2+ were investigated at initial metal concentrations of 30, 50 and 100 mg/L. The removal of Cd2+ as well as Ni2+ in such systems was negatively affected by the presence of Cu2+. The removal efficiency for Cu2+ in multi-metal systems decreased by 5–7 %, whilst in the cases of Cd2+ and Ni2+ the efficiencies decreased by up to 30 %. Nevertheless, the results obtained show that alginate-immobilised C. sorokiniana can efficiently remove the metals tested from polluted drinking water sources.  相似文献

Groundwater is the most important source of water supply in Iran and understanding the geochemical evolution of groundwater is important for sustainable development of the water resources in Tabas area. A total of 29 samples of groundwater in Tabas area have been analyzed for ions and major elements. Groundwater of the study area is characterized by the dominance of Na–Cl water type. Groundwater was generally acidic to high alkaline with pH ranging from 5.42 to 10.75. The TDS as a function of mineralization characteristics of the groundwater ranged from 479 to 10,957 mg/l, with a mean value of 2,759 mg/l. The Ca2+, Mg2+, SO4 2? and HCO3 ? were mainly derived from the dissolution of calcite, dolomite and gypsum. The Cu, Pb and Zn ions are not mobile in recent pH–Eh, but these conditions controlled dissolved Se, V and Mo in groundwater. The As is released in groundwater as a result of the weathering of sulfide minerals like arsenopyrite.  相似文献

Dissolved major ions and important heavy metals including total arsenic and iron were measured in groundwater from shallow (25–33 m) and deep (191–318 m) tube-wells in southeastern Bangladesh. These analyses are intended to help describe geochemical processes active in the aquifers and the source and release mechanism of arsenic in sediments for the Meghna Floodplain aquifer. The elevated Cl and higher proportions of Na+ relative to Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+ in groundwater suggest the influence by a source of Na+ and Cl. Use of chemical fertilizers may cause higher concentrations of NH4+ and PO43− in shallow well samples. In general, most ions are positively correlated with Cl, with Na+ showing an especially strong correlation with Cl, indicating that these ions are derived from the same source of saline waters. The relationship between Cl/HCO3 ratios and Cl also shows mixing of fresh groundwater and seawater. Concentrations of dissolved HCO3 reflect the degree of water–rock interaction in groundwater systems and integrated microbial degradation of organic matter. Mn and Fe-oxyhydroxides are prominent in the clayey subsurface sediment and well known to be strong adsorbents of heavy metals including arsenic. All five shallow well samples had high arsenic concentration that exceeded WHO recommended limit for drinking water. Very low concentrations of SO42− and NO3 and high concentrations of dissolved Fe and PO43− and NH4+ ions support the reducing condition of subsurface aquifer. Arsenic concentrations demonstrate negative co-relation with the concentrations of SO42− and NO3 but correlate weakly with Mo, Fe concentrations and positively with those of P, PO43− and NH4+ ions.  相似文献

Physical and chemical characterization of spent oil shale (OS) from El-Lajjun area has been carried out and compared with the original OS. The spent shale (SS) is subjected to leaching tests to detect the possibilities of heavy metals released from it into the environment. Standard column leaching experiments have revealed no detectable release of heavy metals to the percolating water. The effectiveness of the SS in removing Pb2+ from wastewater has been investigated. The SS is very efficient in removing most of Pb2+ where 1 m3 of SS has an efficiency to remove from 64 to 94% of Pb2+ from about 1,300 m3 wastewater sample containing 50 ppm Pb2+. The efficiency decreases substantially with increasing Pb2+ concentration in the wastewater. In real situations, where Pb2+ concentration is very low (i.e., less than 5 ppm), the efficiency of the SS is expected to be 100%.  相似文献

Three chromium-resistant bacteria Bacillus pumilus-S4, Pseudomonas doudoroffii-S5 and Exiguobacterium-S8 were isolated from chromium-contaminated wastewater/soil and could resist very high concentrations of potassium chromate in Luria agar (up to 25 mg ml?1) and acetate minimal medium (2 mg ml?1). The strains showed growth at diverse pH and temperatures and could resist multiple heavy metals. Pseudomonas doudoroffii-S5 reduced (8.27 mg hexavalent chromium 24 h?1) at a lower initial potassium chromate concentration (100 μg ml?1), but overall more chromate (28.4 mg hexavalent chromium 24 h?1) was reduced at a higher initial concentration (1,000 μg ml?1). The addition of various heavy metals (zinc sulphate, copper sulphate, and manganese sulphate at 50 μg ml?1) in the chromium reduction media did not significantly affect the hexavalent chromium reduction potential of these isolates. The chromium removal/detoxification potential of these strains increased when used in conjunction with hydrophytes Eichornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes. Interestingly, the whole process runs automatically with less energy input, that is, the bacterial strains support the growth of plant while in turn the plant releases exudates that help bacterial growth.  相似文献

Novel bionanocomposites, S. cerevisiae–AgNPs, were synthesized by in situ formation of AgNPs on S. cerevisiae surface using fulvic acids as reductants under simulated sunlight. S. cerevisiae–AgNPs were characterized using UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. These analyses showed that AgNPs were distributed on the surface of S. cerevisiae. The application of S. cerevisiae–AgNPs in bacteria killing and heavy metal removal was studied. S. cerevisiae–AgNPs effectively inhibited the growth of E. coli with increasing concentrations of S. cerevisiae–AgNPs. E. coli was killed completely at high concentration S. cerevisiae–AgNPs (e.g., 100 or 200 µg mL?1). S. cerevisiae–AgNPs as excellent heavy metal absorbents also have been studied. Using Cd2+ as model heavy metal, batch experiments confirmed that the adsorption behavior fitted the Langmuir adsorption isotherms and the Cd2+ adsorption capacity of S. cerevisiae–AgNPs was 15.01 mg g?1. According to adsorption data, the kinetics of Cd2+ uptake by S. cerevisiae–AgNPs followed pseudo second-order kinetic model. Moreover, S. cerevisiae–AgNPs possessed ability of different heavy metals’ removal (e.g., Cr5+, As5+, Pb2+, Cu2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Hg2+, Ni2+). The simulated contaminated water containing E. coli, Cd2+ and Pb2+ was treated using S. cerevisiae–AgNPs. The results indicated that the bionanocomposites can be used to develop antibacterial agents and bioremediation agents for water treatment.  相似文献

As one of the most arid regions in the world, the study area, Zhangye Basin is located in the middle reaches of the Heihe River, northwest China. Besides aridity, rapid social and economic development also stimulates greater demand for water, which is gradually fulfilled by groundwater extraction. In this study, the conventional hydrochemical techniques and statistical analyses were applied to examine the major ions chemistry and hydrochemical processes of groundwater in the Zhangye Basin. The results of chemical analysis indicate that no one pair of cations and anions proportions is more than 50% in the groundwater samples of the study area. High-positive correlations were obtained among the following ions: HCO3 ?–Mg2+, SO4 2?–Mg2+, SO4 2?–Na+ and Cl?–Na+. TDS depends mainly on the concentration of major ions such as HCO3 ?, SO4 2?, Cl?, Mg2+ and Na+. The hydrochemical types in the area can be divided into two major groups: the first group includes Mg2+–Na+–HCO3 ?, Mg2+–Na+–Ca2+–HCO3 ?–SO4 2? and Mg2+–Ca2+–Na+–SO4 2?–HCO3 ? types. The second group comprises Mg2+–Ca2+–SO4 2? type, Mg2+–Ca2+–SO4 2?–Cl? type and Mg2+–Na+–SO4 2?–Cl? type. The ionic ratio plot and saturation index calculation suggests that the silicate weathering, to some extent, and evaporation are dominant factors that determine the major ionic composition in the study area.  相似文献

The heavy metals at high concentration are generally toxic to the plants for their metabolism and growth; therefore, interactions among metals, rhizosphere microbes and plants have attracted attention because of the biotechnological potential of microorganisms for metal removal directly from contaminated soils or the possible transference of them to the plants. The aim of this study was to compare the relationships between the physiological in vitro characteristics of rhizobacteria isolated from plant metal accumulators and their distribution relating with the heavy metals content in contaminated soils. The results of this study showed that the heavy metals present in the rhizosphere of the plant species analyzed, decrease the microbial biomass and content of heavy metals caused a different distribution of rhizobacteria found. Gram negative rhizobacteria (90 %) and gram positive rhizobacteria (10 %) were isolated; all of them are metal-resistant rhizobacteria and 50 % of the isolated rhizobacteria possess both traits: higher indol acetic acid and siderophore producers. The inoculation with these rhizosphere microorganisms that possess metal-tolerating ability and plant growth promoting activities, can be recommended with a practical importance for both metal-contaminated environment and plant growth promotion.  相似文献
