A three-dimensional (non-axisymmetric) model for the solar mean magnetic field generation is studied. The sources of generation are the differential rotation and mean helicity in the convective shell. The system is described by two equations of the first order in time and the fourth order in space coordinates. The solution is sought for in the form of expansion over the spherical function Ynm. The modes of different m are separated. A finite-difference scheme similar to the Peaceman-Rachford scheme is constructed so to find coefficients of the expansion depending on the time and radial coordinates. It is shown that a mode with a smaller azimuthal number m is primarily excited. The axisymmetric mode m = o describes the 22 year solar cycle oscillations. The modes of m o have no such periodicity, the oscillate with a period of rotation of the low boundary of the solar convective shell, The solutions which are symmetric relative to the equator plane are excited more easily compared with the antisymmetrical ones. The results obtained are confronted to the observational picture of the non-axisymmetric large-scale solar magnetic fields.  相似文献

It is shown that high-m drift tearing modes can be excited under the conditions prevalent at the solar flare sites. Since the growth rate of the high-m tearing modes is larger than that for low-m macroscopic tearing modes and smaller than that of microscopic ion-acoustic instability, these modes warrant accommodation in the scheme of instabilities possibly operating in the hybrid model of solar flares suggested by Spicer.  相似文献

Steady photospheric flows can be represented by a spectrum of spherical harmonic modes. A technique is described in which full disc doppler velocity measurements are analysed using the spherical harmonic functions to determine the characteristics of this spectrum and the nature of these flows. Synthetic data is constructed for testing this technique. This data contains limb shift, rotation, differential rotation, meridional circulation, supergranules, giant cells and various levels of noise. The data is analysed in several steps. First, the limb shift is calculated by finding the average velocity in concentric rings about disc center. A polynomial representation of the limb shift is then removed from the data. Secondly, the rotation profile is calculated by finding an average slope in the velocity across the disc at each latitude position. This rotation profile is fit with Legendre polynomials and removed from the data. The third step is to find the meridional circulation by calculating the spherical harmonic transform for the axisymmetric poloidal modes and correcting for the effects of the limb shift analysis. The final step is to calculate the full spectrum of spherical harmonic components for the convective flows. Supergranules are separated from giant cells by spectral filtering for high (l >32) and low (l <32) wavenumbers, respectively. Some information about the spectrum is lost because only one hemisphere is seen, only the line-of-sight velocity is measured and the measurements contain noise. The lack of information about the motions on the backside of the Sun produces a broad smearing of the spectrum into nearby modes. The lack of information about the transverse velocity component produces a mixing between modes whose longitudinal wavenumbers differ by two and between the poloidal and toroidal components with the same wavenumber. In spite of this mode mixing much can be learned from this analysis. Solar rotation and differential rotation can be accurately measured and monitored for secular changes. Meridional circulations with small amplitudes can be measured and monitored and giant cells can be separated from supergranules.  相似文献

In this paper the extended H filtering algorithms for the design of the GPS-based on-board autonomous navigation system for a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite are introduced. The dynamic process models for the estimation of position, velocity and acceleration from the GPS measurements are established. The nominal orbit of the small LEO satellite is determined by using the 7th–8th order Runge—Kutta algorithms. Three filtering approaches are applied to smooth the orbit solutions, respectively, based upon the simulated GPS pseudo range observables using the Satellite Navigation Tool Box. The simulation shows that the observed orbit errors obtained by using the extended H filtering algorithms can be reduced to a lower level than the observed orbit errors in the sense of RMS within 12 h of tracking time by using the H filtering algorithms and the extended Kalman filtering algorithms under the appropriately designed parameters. Based upon the position errors predicted by the three filtering algorithms after the last observation, we find that the extended H filtering algorithm provides the least position errors of the user satellite. This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The detection of low-degree solar oscillation modes with a specific low-resolution detector configuration is investigated. The detector is part of an instrument (the Luminosity Oscillations Imager) in the VIRGO package, to be flown on SOHO. Various problems such as p- and g-mode sensitivity, B and roll angle effects, modes isolation, cross-talk and guiding effects are treated for a given detector configuration. The computed sensitivity will enable the instrument to detect any type of modes for l < 6.B and roll angle effects can be compensated by using adequate filters for mode isolation. Guiding effects are small for p-modes. Also some other complex high-degree mode effects are treated.  相似文献

Recently observed oscillations in the solar atmosphere have been interpreted and modeled as magnetohydrodynamic wave modes. This has allowed for the estimation of parameters that are otherwise hard to derive, such as the coronal magnetic-field strength. This work crucially relies on the initial detection of the oscillations, which is commonly done manually. The volume of Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) data will make manual detection inefficient for detecting all of the oscillating regions. An algorithm is presented that automates the detection of areas of the solar atmosphere that support spatially extended oscillations. The algorithm identifies areas in the solar atmosphere whose oscillation content is described by a single, dominant oscillation within a user-defined frequency range. The method is based on Bayesian spectral analysis of time series and image filtering. A Bayesian approach sidesteps the need for an a-priori noise estimate to calculate rejection criteria for the observed signal, and it also provides estimates of oscillation frequency, amplitude, and noise, and the error in all of these quantities, in a self-consistent way. The algorithm also introduces the notion of quality measures to those regions for which a positive detection is claimed, allowing for simple post-detection discrimination by the user. The algorithm is demonstrated on two Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) datasets, and comments regarding its suitability for oscillation detection in SDO are made.  相似文献

Sunspots are strong absorbers of f and p modes. A possible absorption mechanism is direct conversion to slow magnetoacoustic waves. Calculations based on vertical magnetic field models show that this works well for f modes, but is inadequate for p modes. Using a very simple shallow spot model, in which the effects of the magnetic field are accounted for solely by a surface condition, we investigate the possibility that p modes first scatter into f modes inside the spot, which are then more susceptible to conversion to slow modes. We find that the coupling between an incident p mode and the internal f mode is unlikely to be strong enough to account for the observed absorption, but that the incident modes do couple strongly to the acoustic jacket in some cases, leading to a region immediately around the sunspot where a significant fraction of the surface velocity is due to the jacket modes.  相似文献

High-cadence TRACE observations show that outward-propagating intensity disturbances are a common feature in large, quiescent coronal loops. Analysis of the frequency distribution of these modes shows peaks at both three- and five-minute periods, indicating that they may be driven by the solar surface oscillations (p modes). The energy flux contained within the coronal intensity disturbances is of the order of (1.1±0.4)×103 ergs cm−2 s−1. A simple order-of-magnitude estimate of the damping rate of the relevant p modes allows us to put an observational constraint on the damping of p modes and shows that leakage into the overlying coronal atmosphere might be able to account for a significant fraction of p-mode damping.  相似文献

Spectra of the cellular photospheric flows are determined from observations acquired by the MDI instrument on the SOHO spacecraft. Spherical harmonic spectra are obtained from the full-disk observations. Fourier spectra are obtained from the high-resolution observations. The p-mode oscillation signal and instrumental artifacts are reduced by temporal filtering of the Doppler data. The resulting spectra give power (kinetic energy) per wave number for effective spherical harmonic degrees from 1 to over 3000. Significant power is found at all wavenumbers, including the small wavenumbers representative of giant cells. The time evolution of the spectral coefficients indicates that these small wavenumber components rotate at the solar rotation rate and thus represent a component of the photospheric cellular flows. The spectra show distinct peaks representing granules and supergranules but no distinct features at wavenumbers representative of mesogranules or giant cells. The observed cellular patterns and spectra are well represented by a model that includes two distinct modes – granules and supergranules.  相似文献

Sunspots absorb and scatter incident p modes. The dominant mechanism is still uncertain. One possibility, mode conversion to slow magneto-acoustic waves, has been shown to yield results in agreement with observations for the f mode only. Absorption of p modes in simple vertical magnetic field models is too weak by an order of magnitude or more. Here we report on numerical calculations of p modes encountering a simple sunspot model with field which spreads with height. It is found that p-mode absorption is greatly enhanced by field spread, to a level consistent with observations, and it appears that it occurs preferentially in the outer regions of the spot, in line with recent results from acoustic holography.  相似文献

Several candidates for low-order p modes (n 5) and possibly g modes were found by applying mode-detection techniques such as multivariate spectral regression analysis and time-frequency analysis to the VIRGO full-disc solar irradiance data. Three out of the candidates for low-order p modes could be confirmed by significant peaks in the un-treated power spectra in good agreement with theoretical predictions. The frequency of a fourth candidate for a low-order p mode lies some 2.8 Hz below the predicted frequency. The candidates found for g modes are less reliable, since none of them could be confirmed neither by significant peaks in the un-treated power spectra nor by the detection of multiplets.  相似文献

We experiment with a method of measuring the frequency of solar p modes, intended to extend the passband for the variations of the frequency spectrum as high as possible. So far this passband is limited to a fraction of μ Hz for the classical analysis based on numerical fits of a theoretical line profile to a power spectrum averaged over periods lasting at least several weeks. This limit for the present analysis can be shifted to the mHz range, corresponding to some of the “5 min” oscillations, but in this range we use a lower resolution which allows us to separate odd and even p modes. We show an example of the results for long term variations and apply this analysis to search for a modulation of the p‐mode frequency spectrum by asymptotic series of solar g modes. A faint signal is found in the analysis of 10 years of GOLF data. This very preliminary result possibly indicates the detection of a small number of g modes of degree l = 1. A tentative determination of an observational value of the parameter P0 follows. P0 is the scaling factor of the asymptotic series of g modes and is a key data for solar core physics. Three-dimensional numerical simulations have been used to study the scattering of a surface-gravity wave packet by vertical magnetic-flux tubes, with radii from 200 km to 3 Mm, embedded in stratified polytropic atmosphere. The scattered wave has been found to consist primarily of m=0 (axisymmetric) and m=1 modes. The ratio of the amplitude of these two modes was found to be strongly dependent on the radius of the flux tube. The kink mode is the dominant mode excited in tubes with a small radius, while the sausage mode is dominant for large tubes. Simulations of this type provide a simple, efficient, and robust way to start to understand the seismic signature of flux tubes, which have recently begun to be observed.  相似文献

This work derives the linearized equations of motion, the Lagrangian density, the Hamiltonian density, and the canonical angular momentum density for general perturbations [∝ exp (imφ) with m = 0, ± 1, ...] of a geometrically thin self-gravitating, homentropic fluid disk including the pressure. The theory is applied to “eccentric,” m = ± 1 perturbations of a geometrically thin Keplerian disk. We find m = 1 modes at low frequencies relative to the Keplerian frequency. Further, it is shown that these modes can have negative energy and negative angular momentum. The radial propagation of these low-frequency m = 1 modes can transport angular momentum away from the inner region of a disk and thus increase the rate of mass accretion. Depending on the radial boundary conditions there can be discrete low-frequency, negative-energy, m = 1 modes.  相似文献

Global wave patterns in the Sun's magnetic field   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
When the observed pattern of solar magnetic fields is decomposed in its spherical-harmonic components and a time series analysis is performed, a resonant global wave pattern is revealed. The power spectrum indicates modes with discrete frequencies, obeying a strict parity selection rule in the case of the zonal, rotationally-symmetric modes (with spherical-harmonic orderm=0). For instance, the 22 yr resonance that dominates for the anti-symmetric modes (with odd values of the spherical-harmonic degreel) is completely absent for the symmetric modes, which instead exhibit a number of resonances having frequencies increasing withl.A more traditional way of looking at the evolution of the zonal magnetic pattern is in the form of isocontours in latitude-time space (as in the butterfly diagram of sunspots). We show how this pattern can to a good approximation be represented as a superposition of 14 discrete modes, each with a purely sinusoidal time variation, one mode for each value ofl (=1,2, ..., 14). This corresponds to the assumption that the true, fully resolved and noise-free power spectrum consists of -function peaks, one for eachl value. This approach allows us to analyse the roles of the individual discrete modes in generating the well-known features in the traditional btterfly diagrams, e.g., the drift of the sunspot zones towards the equator and the prominence zones towards the poles during the course of the 11 yr cycle. It is shown that these features are accounted for entirely by the odd parity modes with the single, sinusoidal period of 22 yr. The drifts (and thus the arrow of time) are caused by the systematic phase relations between the 22 yr modes. The even modes exhibit an entirely different pattern. Since they have considerably shorter periods, they cause an undulation of the odd-mode contour lines when superposed on the anti-symmetric pattern. The dispersion, amplitude, and phase relations of the discrete modes are given. It is indicated how they can be used in combination with spectral inversion techniques to determine the depth variation of the parameters in the governing global wave equation.Paper dedicated to Professor Hannes Alfvén on the occasion of his 80th birthday, 30 May 1988.  相似文献

In a microwave background polarization map that covers only part of the sky, it is impossible to separate the E and B components perfectly. This difficulty in general makes it more difficult to detect the B component in a data set. Any polarization map can be separated in a unique way into “pure E”, “pure B” and “ambiguous” components. Power that resides in the pure E(B) component is guaranteed to be produced by E(B) modes, but there is no way to tell whether the ambiguous component comes from E or B modes. A polarization map can be separated into the three components either by finding an orthonormal basis for each component, or directly in real space by using Green functions or other methods.  相似文献

The temporal variation in intermediate-degree-mode frequencies is analysed using helioseismic data which cover the minimum to the maximum phase of the current solar cycle. To study the variation in detail, the measured frequency shifts of f and p modes are decomposed into two components, viz., oscillatory and non-oscillatory. The f-mode frequencies exhibit prominent oscillatory behavior in contrast to p modes where the oscillatory nature of the frequencies is not clearly seen. Also, the oscillatory part contributes significantly to the f-mode frequencies while p-mode frequencies have maximum contribution from the non-oscillatory part. The amplitude of both oscillatory and non-oscillatory parts is found to be a function of frequency. The non-oscillatory part is observed to have a strong correlation with solar activity.  相似文献

Data collected recently by the helioseismic experiments aboard the SOHO spacecraft have allowed the detection of low degree p‐modes with increasingly lower order n. In particular, the GOLF experiment is currently able to unambiguously identify low degree modes with frequencies as low as 1.3 mHz. The detection of p‐modes with very low frequency (i.e., low n), is difficult due to the low signal‐to‐noise ratio in this spectral region and its contamination by solar signals that are not of acoustic origin. To address this problem without using any theoretical a priory, we propose a methodology that relies only on the inversion of observed values to define a spectral window for the expected locations of these low frequency modes. The application of this method to 2920‐day‐long GOLF observations is presented and its results discussed. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Theoretical studies of the normal modes of a coronal slab often neglect gravity, as in Edwin and Roberts (Solar Phys. 71, 239, 1982). Here we study analytically the effect of gravity acting on a horizontal slab as a first step away from a homogeneous medium. Because of the inclusion of gravity, the symmetry of a homogeneous slab is lost, so the normal modes cannot be classified into kink and sausage modes. The presence of gravity also modifies the oscillatory frequencies of the slab, as well as the lower cutoff frequency, resulting in the possible transition between surface and body modes. For general coronal parameters, the dimensionless gravity term turns out to be small, so these effects are also small. A.J. A time series of velocity oscillations is observed in the vicinity of NOAA region 5395 with the Kitt Peak vacuum telescope for 6.8 hours on 1989 March 10 as part of a program to study the interaction of solar p-mode oscillations with solar active regions. The data is transformed in a cylindrical coordinate system centered on the visible sunspot, then Hankel- and Fourier-transformed to produce the power spectra of in- and outgoing acoustic waves. It is observed that a maximum of nearly 70% of the power of incident high-degree modes is absorbed by this unusually large sunspot group. The absorptive properties of this active region are compared with those of more typical regions studied previously.A major flare occurred within this region during the observing sequence, providing a rare opportunity to test the hypothesis that flares may excite acoustic waves in the photosphere. A comparison is made of the amount of outgoing p-mode power in equal 200 min time intervals before and after the time of the flare. No significant difference in outgoing acoustic waves is observed within a one-sigma error of about 5% averaged over the interval. A search for acoustic pulses emanating from the flare is made by filtering the data and performing appropriate inverse transforms. No such pulses were detected to a level of about 20% of the background power.NAS-NRC Resident Research Associate.  相似文献
