We analyze a time series of high resolution observations near the solar limb, obtained in H and the Mg b1 line. We identified arch-shaped dark mottles, which are thin, faint H structures observable under very good seeing conditions, best seen in H +0.75 Å. Their mean length is about 15, their mean height about 6 and indicative lifetimes is of the order of 5 min. They show negative (away from the observer) line-of-sight velocities. A possible interpretation is that material flows from the apex towards the feet of the arches.  相似文献

We have compared the structures seen on X-ray images obtained by a flight of the NIXT sounding rocket payload on July 11, 1991 with near-simultaneous photospheric and chromospheric structures and magnetic fields observed at Big Bear. The X-ray images reflect emission of both Mgx and Fexvi, formed at 1 × 106 K and 3 × 106 K, respectively. The brightest H sources correspond to a dying sub-flare and other active region components, all of which reveal coronal enhancements situated spatially well above the H emission. The largest set of X-ray arches connected plages of opposite polarity in a large bipolar active region. The arches appear to lie in a small range of angle in the meridian plane connecting their footpoints. Sunspots are dark on the surface and in the corona. For the first time we see an emerging flux region in X-rays and find the emission extends twice as high as the H arches. Many features which we believe to correspond to X-ray bright points (XBPs) were observed. Whether by resolution or spectral band, the number detected greatly exceeds that from previous work. All of the brighter XBPs correspond to bipolar H features, while unipolar H bright points are the base of more diffuse comet-like coronal arches, generally vertical. These diverge from individual features by less than 30°, and give a good measure of what the canopies must do. The H data shows that all the H features were present the entire day, so they are not clearly disappearing or reappearing. We find a new class of XBPs which we call satellite points, elements of opposite polarity linked to nearby umbrae by invisible field lines. The satellite points change rapidly in X-ray brightness during the flight. An M1.9 flare occurred four hours after the flight; examination of the pre-flare structures reveals nothing unusual.  相似文献

The characteristics of 3.5 mm depression features associated with two disparition brusques observed in H are discussed. The millimeter depressions still exist, although reduced in strength, after the disappearance of the H filament. The two depressions correspond to temperatures of 600 and 450 K before and to 200 and 250 K after the H filament disappearance.  相似文献

A flare event occurred which involved the disappearance of a filament near central meridian on 29 August 1973. The event was well observed in X-rays with the AS & E telescope on Skylab and in H at BBSO. It was a four-ribbon flare involving both new and old magnetic inversion lines which were roughly parallel. The H, X-ray, and magnetic field data are used to deduce the magnetic polarities of the H brightenings at the footpoints of the brightest X-ray loops. These magnetic structures and the preflare history of the region are then used to argue that the event involved a reconnection of magnetic field lines rather than a brightening in place of pre-existing loops. The simultaneity of the H brightening onsets in the four ribbons and the apparent lack of an eruption of the filament are consistent with this interpretation. These observations are compared to other studies of filament disappearances. The preflare structures and the alignment of the early X-ray flare loops with the H filament are consistent with the schematic picture of a filament presented first by Canfield et al. (1974).  相似文献

In this letter, we bring attention to prominences which show different morphology in H and Heii 304 Å, as observed simultaneously by BBSO and EIT on board SOHO. Those two lines have been thought to represent similar chromospheric structures although they are formed at significantly different temperatures. We give two examples representing two kinds of anomaly: (1) prominences showing strong H emissions in the lower part and strong Heii emissions in the upper part, and (2) erupting prominences showing extensive Heii emission, but nothing in H. Our results indicate that a part or the whole of a prominence may be too hot to emit H radiation, possibly due to heating or thermal instability. Please note that these are not just two isolated cases, many other prominences show the similar differences in H and Heii 304 Å.  相似文献

A survey of soft X-ray images from Skylab has revealed a class of large-scale transient X-ray enhancements in the lower corona which are typically associated with the disappearance of H filaments away from active regions. Contemporary with the H filament disappearance, X-ray emitting structures appeared at or near the filament location with shape and size resembling the filament. Eventually these structures faded, but the filament cavity was no longer obvious. Typically the peak of the X-ray event lagged the end of the filament disappearance by tens of minutes. The durations of the coronal X-ray enhancements were considerably longer than the associated H filament disappearances. Major flare effects, such as chromospheric brightenings, typically were not associated with these X-ray events. One event analyzed quantitatively had a peak temperature between 1.8 and 2.7 × 106 K, achieved a peak density of 109 cm–3 and resulted in an enhancement in the plasma pressure over the conditions of the preexisting coronal cavity of at least a factor of 7. The mass of the coronal X-ray emitting material was about 10% that of the preexisting filament and the thermal energy of the coronal event was on the order of 1029 erg, about 10% of the mechanical energy of the H filament eruption. The event appeared to cool by radiative losses and not by thermal conduction. It is likely that the coronal enhancements are caused by heating of an excess of previously cooler material, either from the filament itself, or by compression of coronal material by a changing magnetic field.  相似文献

Series of H spectra and slit-jaw H filtergrams of a quiescent prominence taken at Pic du Midi Observatory on 7 November 1977 are studied. The observations have been digitized by means of an automated Joyce Loebl microdensitometer. The image processing of the H filtergrams reveals an internal structure of the prominence consisting of several arches. Series of high-resolution H spectra obtained with the slit position located on a selected part of one of the prominence arches have been chosen for Doppler-shift analysis. The obtained time series of the line-of-sight velocity reveal large velocity variations near the periphery of the arch and a strong dependence of the velocity (in sign and magnitude) on the position along the slit. The prominence arch shows also cyclic displacements along the line-of-sight direction implying Alfvén string-mode oscillations.  相似文献

An H filament eruption on November 5, 1992 was fully observed in H with the Hida Flare Monitoring Telescope, while Yohkoh's Soft X-ray Telescope observed the pre- and post-eruption evolution of the coronal magnetic fields. From the H data, including the red and blue wings, we have reconstructed the rise of the filament, including trajectory, velocity, and acceleration. In combination with the Yohkoh data this reconstruction suggests that the filament had several interactions with other coronal magnetic fields during the eruption. The Yohkoh data also shows pre-eruption changes in the coronal fields and several post-eruption bright coronal structures. The pre-eruption changes are interpreted as a partial opening of the corona, indicating that it is not necessary to have a complete opening of the corona in order for a filament to erupt and we discuss the several possible contributions from emerging flux. The post-event bright coronal structures are compared with theory and with a cleaner filament eruption event on July 31, 1992. These comparisons suggest that, although there are many similarities, it is hard to completely reconcile the observations with the existing theory.  相似文献

Flaring arches
We discuss first the development of the coronal arch-shaped structure of 57000 km length which was born at or before 08:00 UT on 6 November, 1980 and became the site of 13 quasi-periodic brightenings in hard X-rays from 10:00 to 14:30 UT. The same structure became the site of a series of 17 flaring arches between 15:30 and 24:00 UT on that day. The periodicity of 19 min, defined well for the quasi-periodic variations, seems to be partly retained during the occurrence of the flaring arches. The flaring arch studied in Paper I (called SB arch) was the brightest event of this set of events. This paper presents its extended analysis and also an analysis of three other flaring arches that occurred in this configuration. All these events exhibit similar characteristics and thus demonstrate that the flaring arch is a distinct solar phenomenon with specific characteristic properties.A comparison of H, Ov, and X-ray data for the SB arch essentially confirmed, in a quantitative way, the qualitative interpretation of the flow of emitting plasma through the arch proposed in Paper I. In particular, these data show: (1) a hot conduction front producing X-rays in the least dense plasma ahead, a decelerating more dense plasma bulk seen next in Ov, and still more decelerating very dense plasma eventually visible in emission in H; (2) a gradient of densities from the primary towards the secondary footpoint, by factor 3 in X-rays, one order of magnitude in Ov, and probably more in the densest loops emitting in H; (3) the secondary footpoint with hard X-ray spectrum, predominantly excited by particle streams.Member of the Carrera del Investigador, CONICET, Argentina.  相似文献

The evolution of coronal and chromospheric structures is examined together with magnetograms for the 1B flare of January 19, 1972. Soft X-ray and EUV studies are based on the OSO-7 data. The H filtergrams and magnetograms came from the Sacramento Peak Observatory. Theoretical force-free magnetic field configurations are compared with structures seen in the soft X-ray, EUV and H images. Until the flare, two prominent spots were connected by a continuous dark filament and their overlying coronal structure underwent an expansion at the sunspot separation rate of 0.1 km s–1. On January 19, the flare occurred as new magnetic fields emerged at 1019 Mx h–1 beneath the filament, which untwisted and erupted as the flare began. The pre-flare coronal emissions remained unchanged during the flare except for the temporary addition of a localized enhancement that started 5 min after flare onset. EUV lines normally emitted in the upper transition region displayed a sudden enhancement coinciding in time and location with a bright H point, which is believed to be near the flare trigger or onset point. The EUV flash and the initial H brightening, both of which occurred near the center of the activated filament, were followed by a second EUV enhancement at the end of the filament. The complete disruption of the filament was accompanied by a third EUV enhancement and a rapid rise in the soft X-ray emission spatially coincident with the disappearing filament. From the change of magnetic field inferred from H filtergrams and from force-free field calculations, the energy available for the flare is estimated at approximately 1031 erg. Apparently, changes in the overlying coronal magnetic field were not required to provide the flare energy. Rather, it is suggested that the flare actually started in the twisted filament where it was compressed by emerging fields. Clearly, the flare started below the corona, and it appears that it derived its energy from the magnetic fields in or near the filament.NCAR is sponsored by NSF.  相似文献

Spectroheliograms, having a resolution approaching 2, have been obtained which show He-D3 in absorption against the disk. The He-D3 features are compared with the distribution of magnetic fields and with H structures. The brightest regions in H usually show the strongest D3 absorption. Most H dark filaments show some D3 absorption, but the degree of correlation varies from filament to filament. The correlation between BII and He-D3 absorption is rather poor and the He features are much more diffuse than the photospheric magnetic field.  相似文献

In the time period from 1972-1993, the Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 509 showed large variations of its optical continuum and broad emission line fluxes. The broad H and H emission lines have approximately the same profiles, which retain their shape during flux variations. The relationship between the continuum and emission line fluxes varies with time. The spectral energy distribution of the variable continuum based on UBVRI data has the form lgF() lg, with the dereddened = -0.60.  相似文献

Bright and dark curvilinear structures observed between the two major chromospheric ribbons during the flare of 29 July 1973 on films from the Big Bear Solar Observatory are interpreted as a typical system of coronal loops joining the inner boundaries of the separating flare ribbons. These observations, made through a 0.25 Å H filter, only show small segments of the loops having Doppler shifts within approximately ± 22 km s–1 relative to the filter passband centered at H, H -0.5 Å or H +0.5 Å. However, from our knowledge of the typical behavior of such loop systems observed at the limb in H and at 5303 Å, it has been possible to reconstruct an appoximate model of the probable development of the loops of the 29 July flare as they would have been viewed at the limb relative to the position of a prominence which began to erupt a few minutes before the start of the flare. It is seen that the loops ascended through the space previously occupied by the filament. On the assumption that H fine structures parallel the magnetic field, we can conclude that a dramatic reorientation of the direction of the magnetic field in the corona occurred early in the flare, subsequent to the start of the eruption of the filament and prior to the time that the H loops ascended through the space previously occupied by the filament.  相似文献

Fine dark H filaments fibrils form at the limb, apparently in most of the middle chromosphere corresponding to an altitude between 1500–2000 km and 4000 km. The space in between filaments is corona and the transition layer. The cool gas in fibrils is protected by the magnetic field against the conductive flux out of the hot corona. Therefore the fibrils stretch up to 4000 km where their temperature is about 18 000 K and the density about 5 × 109 cm–3. The gas in the fibrils is ionized by electronic collisions and by the external ultraviolet radiation. The second level of the hydrogen atoms in fibrils is populated by recombinations, electronic collisions and by Ly- quanta. The calculated optical thickness of the fibrils in H is about 1, it explains the absorption features on the spectroheliograms. The gas pressure in fibrils is lower than the coronal pressure, and the pressure equilibrium is achieved by a magnetic field of about 1.5–2 G. In the active regions the photospheric fields are stronger, therefore the fibrils in active regions are wider and show more contrast. The emission of the fibrils at the limb is explained by the scattering of the solar radiation. The temperature in arches reaching as high as 5000–6000 km, is stabilized near the top by the HeII emission. Thus the middle chromosphere is essentially a collection of magnetic arches.  相似文献

Motions in arch filament systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A new analysis of H filtergrams and H spectra of arch filament systems (AFS) shows that material flows downwards in both branches of the arch filaments (v 50 km/sec) while the top of the arches ascends (v 10 km/sec). It is suggested that AFS are produced by the magnetic field which expands, between growing spots, into higher levels carrying material with it that subsequently slides down along the magnetic field following gravity.AFS are also visible in the K line of Caii; however, there they appear less pronounced than in H and they are less conspicuous than the K-line quiescent filaments. There is some indication that AFS just cover a supergranulum (Ca network cell) with material streaming down at the border of the cell.No indication was found for a close relationship between AFS and flares.Mitteilung aus dem Fraunhofer Institut Nr. 91.  相似文献

One-hundred fifty-six large-scale enhancements of X-ray emission from solar active regions were studied on full-disk filterheliograms to determine characteristic morphology and expansion rates for heated coronal plasma. The X-ray photographs were compared with H observations of flares, sudden filament disappearances, sprays and loop prominence systems (LPS). Eighty-one percent of the X-ray events were correlated with H filament activity, but only forty-four percent were correlated with reported H flares. The X-ray enhancements took the form of loops or arcades of loops ranging in length from 60 000 km to 520 000 km and averaging 15 000 km in width. Lifetimes ranged from 3 hr to >24 hr. Event frequency was 1.4 per day. X-ray loop arcades evolved from sharp-edged clouds in cavities vacated by rising H filaments. Expansion velocities of the loops were 50 km s-1 immediately after excitation and 1–10 km s-1 several hours later. These long-lived loop arcades are identified with LPS, and it is suggested that the loops outlined magnetic fields which were reconnecting after filament eruptions. Another class of X-ray enhanced loops stretched outside active regions and accompanied sprays or lateral filament ejections. H brightenings occurred where these loops intersected the chromosphere. Inferred excitation velocities along the loops ranged between 300 and 1200 km s-1. It is suggested that these loops outlined closed magnetic fields guiding slow mode shocks from flares and filament eruptions.  相似文献

The hypothesis that the optical continua of QSOs, BL Lac objects and the nuclei of Seyfert, N and normal galaxies arise due to incoherent synchrotron radiation from electrons and consequently the flux of radiation in the optical continua of these objects is given by the power law:F(v)v is examined. Following Kinman, spectral indices B–V and U–B in(B-V) and(U-B) colours as well as their average and difference have been defined and calculated for samples of 227 QSOs, 32 BL Lac objects and nuclei of 62 Seyfert, 12 N and 7 normal galaxies. Here has been assumed to be an estimate of the spectral index . On the other hand, has been regarded as a measure of departure from the power law. On the basis of this, the distributions of and in QSOs, BL Lac objects and the nuclei of Seyfert, N and normal galaxies have been studied. The value of depends mainly on the balance of the energy loss due to synchrotron radiation and the rate of replenishment of energy by injection of high energy electrons in the radiating region. The increase in the value of and therefore that of indicates that the activity in the object is slowing down and the object is growing older. Assuming that the QSOs, BL Lac objects and the nuclei of Seyfert, N and normal galaxies essentially represent different phases in the evolutionary sequence of extragalactic objects, we suggest that they may be arranged in the sequence: QSOsBL Lac objects Seyferts 1N galaxies Seyferts 2 Normal galaxies in the decreasing order of activity in the core or nuclei of these objects. On leave of absence from the Government Science College, Rajpur, M.P., India.  相似文献

We use the Cerenkov line emission mechanism to give a new explanation of the observed intensity ratios, particularly the L/H ratio, of the emission lines of quasars. We give equations that restrict the choice of the parameter values. The parameters are the characteristic energy of the relativistic electrons, the number density of neutral hydrogen and its relative level populations. With reasonable choice of the parmaeters, we can obtain calculated L/H, H/H, P/H ratios in agreement with observed values. Our estimate for the gas density in the broad line region of quasars is 1015 cm–3, very different from previous estimates. Unlike previous theories, such a high density causes no difficulties with the Cerenkov line emission.  相似文献

Large field H observations of the Milky Way between Carina and Aquila were made through a narrow interference filter 15 wide. Characteristic large-scale features of the observed region are extended emission areas in Carina, Norma-Scorpius and Scutum-Sagittarius and some weak isolated nebulosities near the Coal Sac, Centauri and Normae. H photographs, a chart mapping the emission, and a list of identified emission regions are given.  相似文献

High resolution photographic magnetograms are compared with H filtergrams (both on- and off - band) for a wide variety of solar features. It is verified that H filaments overlie neutral lines or bands and that H plages always occur at magnetic field clumps. However, the brightness of H plages bear no relation to magnetic field strength or polarity, and the direction of the magnetic field with respect to threads and filaments remains obscure. Counter-examples can be found for virtually every rule that has been formulated so far.Basic questions about the usefulness and final research goal of filtergrams and magnetograms are raised. It is shown that neither filtergram or magnetogram alone is capable of furnishing a unique solution. It is suggested that the proper direction for research is to use magnetograms, together with (as yet unspecified) additional sources of data, to understand H structures.  相似文献
