The temporal variation of the horizontal velocity in sub-surface layers beneath three different types of active region is studied using the technique of ring diagrams. In this study, we select active regions (ARs) 10923, 10930, 10935 from three consecutive Carrington rotations: AR 10930 contains a fast-rotating sunspot in a strong emerging active region while other two have non-rotating sunspots with emerging flux in AR 10923 and decaying flux in AR 10935. The depth range covered is from the surface to about 12 Mm. In order to minimize the influence of systematic effects, the selection of active and quiet regions is made so that these were observed at the same heliographic locations on the solar disk. We find a significant variation in both components of the horizontal velocity in active regions as compared to quiet regions. The magnitude is higher in emerging-flux regions than in the decaying-flux region, in agreement with earlier findings. Further, we clearly see a significant temporal variation in depth profiles of both zonal and meridional flow components in AR 10930, with the variation in the zonal component being more pronounced. We also notice a significant influence of the plasma motion in areas closest to the rotating sunspot in AR 10930, while areas surrounding the non-rotating sunspots in all three cases are least affected by the presence of the active region in their neighborhood.  相似文献

We have observed infrared brightenings near the poles of Jupiter at 8 μm in early 1980. We suspect they are nonthermal in origin. These brightenings are apparently related to the auroral zones which are determined by the magnetic mapping of the magnetotail onto the atmosphere, rather than by the Io flux tube. They were present in both hemispheres in January, present only in the north in February, and probably absent in the south in March. When visible, they were only seen in the hemisphere where the auroral zone was oriented toward the Earth and absent otherwise.  相似文献

Solar activity behaviour on the eve of the Maunder minimum may provide important information on the period of further suppression of sunspot population. We analyse sunspot positions and areas in the 1630s extracted from rare drawings published by Pierre Gassendi in Opera Omnia. This work was published in two different editions, the first in Lyon and the second almost 70 years later in Florence. The drawings published in Lyon are found to be slightly different from those published in Florence, which produces a discrepancy in the position of spots of a few degrees, while sunspot group areas may differ by a factor of two. We reveal that the orientation of the drawings in the book is not always the same as might be seen in the telescope. We conjecture that the time of Gassendi’s observations covers the beginning of a new Schwabe cycle in the southern hemisphere. The differential rotation rate in the 1630s is also assessed and discussed.  相似文献

A very high quality wiggly-line spectrogram was analyzed by making high-resolution spectral scans of numerous small solar features. An attempt from the line profiles to detect a magnetic field difference between the granular and intergranular regions, resulted in a field increase of 20 ± 15 G in the darker regions of the granular field. Line width increases apparently due to small-scale turbulent velocities are seen in the darker regions. It is postulated that in general darker regions show increased turbulent velocities. Conspicuous asymmetries in line profiles are seen in dark intergranular regions. It is suggested that these are the result of velocity gradients in the downward flow of material. An ionized Cr line showed a conspicuous increase in equivalent width in the darker regions of the granular field, thus indicating a decrease in electron pressure in these areas.  相似文献

Geomorphic features in the Hellespontus region, Mars, were compared with dunes of the crescentic ridge type in numerous terrestrial sand seas quantitatively by dimensional analysis of dune lengths, widths, and wavelengths. Mean values for the Hellespontus dunes are close to mean values derived from measurements of all sampled terrestrial sand seas. Terrestrial analogs of form and areal distribution of the Hellespontus dunes are shown by comparison of scale ratios derived from the measurements. Dunes of similar form occur in South West Africa, in Pakistan, in the southeastern Arabian peninsula, in the Sahara, in eastern USSR and northern China, and in western North America. Terrestrial analogs closest to form and areal distribution of the Hellespontus dunes are in the Kara Kum Desert, Turkmen SSR, and in the Ala Shan (Gobi) Desert, China.  相似文献

This paper is part I of a limited review of the applications of the spectral theory of linear operators in an astrophysical context. The ideal magnetohydrodynamic equations arise in the study of magnetic flux tubes in the solar corona, and in the plasma physics of nuclear containment devices. The system described by these equations is very rich both mathematically and physically, and there are many open problems associated with these models. The underlying mathematical principles are discussed in a qualitative manner in Paper I, and in a more technical manner in subsequent Paper II.  相似文献

Classical S-type Riemann ellipsoids are generalized taking a Ferrers-type inhomogeneity in the mass distribution, a three-dimensional anisotropy in the dispersion in the velocities, and the gravitation of a spherical halo into account. A Ferrers inhomogeneity in the mass distribution does not affect the equilibrium conditions for the ellipsoids, but only changes the numerical coefficients in the equilibrium parameters. An anisotropy in the dispersion in the velocities does change the equilibrium conditions, expanding or contracting the region in which embedded ellipsoids exist. Abstract— Magmatic inclusions occur in both chadacrystic olivine and oikocrystic pigeonite in ALH 77005 but are different from each other. Magmatic inclusions in olivine consist mainly of aluminous pyroxenes, intergrowths of plagioclase and silica, silica-predominant glass, and rhyodacitic glass, with minor amounts of chromite, spinel, pyrrhotite, and whitlockite. Those in pigeonite consist mainly of aluminous pyroxenes, nonaluminous ferroan pyroxenes, kaersutite, spinel, and K-rich trachytic glass, with minor amounts of pyrrhotite and whitlockite. The magmatic inclusions in chadacrystic olivine formed from trapped melts that were basaltic, apparently dry and crystallized additional olivine metastably. The basaltic magma, with entrained olivine, experienced magma mixing with K-rich and wet magmas, or assimilation of such crustal rocks, in the early to middle stages of the crystallization sequence of ALH 77005 during crystallization of chadacrystic olivine prior to precipitation of oikocrystic pigeonite. However the amount of mixed magmas or assimilated rocks was minor in comparison to the basaltic magma. Crystallization of pigeonite, augite, and plagioclase in the host lithologies took place in a shallow magma reservoir under an open-system condition, and the pigeonite trapped basaltic andesite to trachyandesitic melts, which resulted in magmatic inclusions in oikocrystic pigeonite. The magmatic inclusions in both olivine and pigeonite were formed under a rapid-cooling condition, resulting in a variety of inclusions. Kaersutite in magmatic inclusions in oikocrystic pigeonite crystallized under a closed-system wet condition during the late-stage crystallization of the inclusions.  相似文献

Modifications to a Zeiss 1/4 Å filter are described which allow high spatial resolution observations of the line-of-sight velocities and magnetic fields in the photosphere and in sunspots. First results show: (1) the granular velocity field to be very strong; differences in upward motions in the granules and downward motions in between are as much as 6 km/sec; (2) the Evershed effect in sunspots to originate primarily in the dark regions between bright penumbral filaments.  相似文献

In this investigation, the polarization transfer equations in terms of the Stokes parameters are derived for electromagnetic waves propagating in an arbitrary direction in an inhomogeneous magnetized plasma. This system of transfer equations is then solved analytically in the case when the magnetized plasma is homogeneous. For simplicity in presentation, the source term in the equation of transfer has been omitted. Transitting to the special case of quasi-longitudinal propagation, the results obtained here are shown to be in agreement to that derived by Zheleznyakov earlier.  相似文献

By observations with the 1.5m telescope at San Pedro Martir (OAN, UNAM, Mexico) the BVR magnitudes are determined for 66 member galaxies in Shakhbazian Compact Galaxy Groups ShCG 40, ShCG 176, ShCG 270, ShCG 278, ShCG 310, and ShCG 342. Three other groups were observed in two or only in one band. Seven galaxies in ShCG 298 were observed in B and R, six galaxies in ShCG 95 were observed in V, and seven galaxies in ShCG 345 were observed in V and R. The distribution of brightness of observed galaxies is determined. Signs of interaction between galaxies are detected in some groups.  相似文献

对在1981-2000年世界上所发表的和中国学者所发表的有关恒星与恒星系统的论文作统计发现:此期间世界上这一领域的发展较平稳,而我国的发展快速.这反映了改革开放后,我国基础学科研究大有进展.从各分支所占的比重和发展来看,我国在恒星与恒星系统的研究与世界同期有几乎相同的分布,因此总体上我国在这一领域的发展基本正常.当然有些分支发展较快,如有关超新星及其遗迹、星际介质和恒星形成区、化学丰度的研究等,这和一些较强的研究团组形成有关;在双星研究方面,我国则与世界发展一致,双星研究始终是恒星研究领域的重点;而在世界范围内较突出的关于银河系的研究,在我国却相对较弱.恒星和恒星系统这一研究领域20年的论文数统计显示,我国学者所发表的论文只占世界总论文数的1.3%,虽然在最后5年有大幅上升,但也只占2.0%,这与我国IAU会员数所占比例相比是偏少的.就世界整体而言,恒星领域的研究进展与整个天文学领域相比是较慢的,显然这与一批能做深空探测和高能波段观测的设备投入有关.因此,除了对恒星及恒星系统领域作统计分析外,对整个天文学领域各大分支作分析可能对制定今后我国天文学发展计划更有利。  相似文献

Abstract– The Siljan impact structure in Sweden is the largest confirmed impact structure in Western Europe. Despite this, the structure has been poorly studied in the past, and detailed studies of shock metamorphic features in the target lithologies are missing. Here, we present the results of a detailed systematic search for shock metamorphic features in quartz grains from 73 sampled localities at Siljan. At 21 localities from an area approximately 20 km in diameter located centrally in the structure, the orientations of 2851 planar deformation feature sets in 1179 quartz grains were measured. Observations of shatter cones outside of the zone with shocked quartz extend the total shocked area to approximately 30 km in diameter. The most strongly shocked samples, recording pressures of up to 20 GPa, occur at the very central part of the structure, and locally in these samples, higher pressures causing melting conditions in the affected rocks were reached. Pressures recorded in the studied samples decrease outwards from the center of the structure, forming roughly circular envelopes around the proposed shock center. Based on the distribution pattern of shocked quartz at Siljan, the original transient cavity can be estimated at approximately 32–38 km in diameter. After correcting for erosion, we conclude that the original rim to rim diameter of the Siljan crater was somewhere in the size range 50–90 km.  相似文献

We compare horizontal flow fields in the photosphere and in the subphotosphere (a layer 0.5 Mm below the photosphere) in two solar active regions: AR?11084 and AR?11158. AR?11084 is a mature, simple active region without significant flaring activity, and AR?11158 is a multipolar, complex active region with magnetic flux emerging during the period studied. Flows in the photosphere are derived by applying the Differential Affine Velocity Estimator for Vector Magnetograms (DAVE4VM) on HMI-observed vector magnetic fields, and the subphotospheric flows are inferred by time–distance helioseismology using HMI-observed Dopplergrams. Similar flow patterns are found for both layers for AR?11084: inward flows in the sunspot umbra and outward flows surrounding the sunspot. The boundary between the inward and outward flows, which is slightly different in the photosphere and the subphotosphere, is within the sunspot penumbra. The area having inward flows in the subphotosphere is larger than that in the photosphere. For AR?11158, flows in these two layers show great similarities in some areas and significant differences in other areas. Both layers exhibit consistent outward flows in the areas surrounding sunspots. On the other hand, most well-documented flux-emergence-related flow features seen in the photosphere do not have counterparts in the subphotosphere. This implies that the horizontal flows caused by flux emergence do not extend deeply into the subsurface.  相似文献

The yearly and monthly data sets of sunshine duration and percent- age obtained at the 756 principal and primary standard meteorological stations all over China from 1971 to 2000, compiled by the Meteorological Reference Room of the National Center for Meteorological Information, are used to study the countrywide sunshine conditions and to analyze the factors which have an effect on the sunshine, in combination with the data of the key elements, such as the cloud cover and water vapor, recorded in China from 1951 to 2008. The obtained result shows that the distributions of the sunshine duration and sun- shine percentage in China are consistent with each other: small in southeastern China and large in northwestern China, increasing from southeast to northwest. In eastern China, the sunshine duration gradually increases from south to north and the sunshine condition in the western area is integrally better than that in the eastern area, tallying with the general rule. The sunshine condition in the Shiquanhe area in southwestern Tibet is the optimum, the sunshine conditions in the vicinity of the latitude zone of 40° N and in the area of southern Tibet take the second place, those in the south of the Yangtze River, in southern China, Sichuan Basin and in the eastern area of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau are rela- tively poor, and those in the other areas are placed in the middle. The sunshine duration is affected by the key elements like the cloud cover and water vapor, exhibiting a negative correlation with them.  相似文献

The effect of mass balance variations on changes in surface elevation of the Greenland ice sheet is examined in connection with the rise in sea level that will be caused by increased melting. Changes in surface elevation of several metres (of either sign) can occur in the ablation area of the ice sheet over a period of a few years as a result of random ablation forcing without being evidence of change in mean climate. Similar, but smaller, changes can occur in the accumulation area due to accumulation forcing. The ablation area of the ice sheet probably thickened from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s as a result of lower ablation in that period but thinned again in the late 1980s as a result of higher ablation then. There is no evidence of any present trend of increased melting. Future climate warming will involve an accelerated thinning of the ablation area that could be detected in 1–2 decades against the background of natural fluctuations in surface elevation.  相似文献

We present the results of study of the ionized gas velocity fields in 28 nearby (systemic velocity below 1000 km s?1) dwarf galaxies. The observations were made at the 6-m BTA telescope of the SAO RAS with the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer in the Hα emission line. We were able to measure regular circular rotation parameters in 25 galaxies. As a rule, rotation velocities measured in HII are in a good agreement with the data on the HI kinematics at the same radii. Three galaxies reveal position angles of the kinematic axis in the HII velocity fields that strongly (tens of degrees) differ from the measurements in neutral hydrogen at large distances from the center or from the orientation of the major axis of optical isophotes. The planes of the gaseous and stellar disks in these galaxies most likely do not coincide. Namely, in DDO99 the gaseous disk is warped beyond the optical radius, and in UGC3672 and UGC8508 the inclination of orbits of gas clouds varies in the inner regions of galaxies. It is possible that the entire ionized gas in UGC8508 rotates in the plane polar to the stellar disk.  相似文献

Abstract— We report the results of our petrological and mineralogical study of Fe‐Ni metal in type 3 ordinary and CO chondrites, and the ungrouped carbonaceous chondrite Acfer 094. Fe‐Ni metal in ordinary and CO chondrites occurs in chondrule interiors, on chondrule surfaces, and as isolated grains in the matrix. Isolated Ni‐rich metal in chondrites of petrologic type lower than type 3.10 is enriched in Co relative to the kamacite in chondrules. However, Ni‐rich metal in type 3.15–3.9 chondrites always contains less Co than does kamacite. Fe‐Ni metal grains in chondrules in Semarkona typically show plessitic intergrowths consisting of submicrometer kamacite and Ni‐rich regions. Metal in other type 3 chondrites is composed of fine‐ to coarse‐grained aggregates of kamacite and Ni‐rich metal, resulting from metamorphism in the parent body. We found that the number density of Ni‐rich grains in metal (number of Ni‐rich grains per unit area of metal) in chondrules systematically decreases with increasing petrologic type. Thus, Fe‐Ni metal is a highly sensitive recorder of metamorphism in ordinary and carbonaceous chondrites, and can be used to distinguish petrologic type and identify the least thermally metamorphosed chondrites. Among the known ordinary and CO chondrites, Semarkona is the most primitive. The range of metamorphic temperatures were similar for type 3 ordinary and CO chondrites, despite them having different parent bodies. Most Fe‐Ni metal in Acfer 094 is martensite, and it preserves primary features. The degree of metamorphism is lower in Acfer 094, a true type 3.00 chondrite, than in Semarkona, which should be reclassified as type 3.01.  相似文献

One response of vegetation to future increases in atmospheric CO2 may be a widespread increase in stomatal resistance. Such a response would increase plant water usage efficiency while still allowing CO2 assimilation at current rates. The associated reduction in transpiration rates has the potential of causing significant modifications in climate on regional and global scales.This paper describes the effects of a uniform doubling of the stomatal resistance parameterization in a global climate model (GENESIS). The model includes a land-surface transfer scheme (LSX) that accounts for the physical effects of vegetation, including stomatal resistance and transpiration, which is described in detail in an appendix. The atmospheric general circulation model is a heavily modified version of the NCAR Community Climate Model version 1 with new treatments of clouds, penetrative convection, planetary boundary layer mixing, solar radiation, the diurnal cycle, and semi-Lagrangian transport of water vapor. The other surface models include multi-layer models of soil, snow and sea ice, and a 50-m slab ocean mixed layer.The effects of doubling the stomatal resistance parameterization are largest in heavily forested regions: tropical South America, and parts of the Northern Hemispheric boreal forests in Canada, Russia and Siberia in summer. The primary surface changes are a decrease in evapotranspiration, an increase in upward sensible heat flux, and a surface-air warming. Secondary effects include shifts in the ITCZ which cause large increases in precipitation, soil moisture and runoff in western tropical South America, and decreases in these quantities in northern subtropical Africa. Noticeable changes in relative humidity, cloudiness and meridional circulation occur throughout the troposphere. The global effects on atmospheric temperature and specific humidity are small fractions of those found in other doubled CO2 experiments. However, unlike doubled CO2 the signs of those changes combine to give relatively large reductions in relative humidity and cloudiness. It is suggested that the stomatal-resistance effect and other plant responses to large-scale environmental perturbations should be included in models of future climate.  相似文献

In this paper, the monthly counts of flare index in the northern and southern hemispheres are used to investigate the hemispheric variation of the flare index in each of solar cycles 20–23. It is found that, (1) the flare index is asymmetrically distributed in each solar cycle and its asymmetry is a real phenomenon; (2) the flare index in the northern hemisphere begins earlier than that in the southern hemisphere in each of solar cycles 20–23, and the phase shifts between the two hemispheres show an odd‐even pattern; (3) although the flare index dominating in a hemisphere does not mean that it leads in phase in this hemisphere in individual solar cycle, these two features have an intrinsic relationship.
