The equilibrium conditions of the following reaction 2 zoisite +1 CO2?3 anorthite+1 calcite+1 H2O 2 Ca2Al3[O/OH/SiO4/Si2O7]+1 CO2?3 CaAl2Si2O8+1 CaCO3+1 H2O have been determined experimentally at total pressures of P j= 2000 bars, P f =5000 bars, and P f =7000 bars. Owing to the vertical position of the equilibrium curves in isobaric T- \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) diagrams, the composition of the binary H2O-CO2 fluid phase coexisting with zoisite is independent of temperature in the temperature interval investigated. According to our experiments, orthorhombic zoisite is only stable in equilibrium with a fluid phase at a concentration of CO2 which is less than, respectively, ca. 2 Mol% CO2 at P f =2000 bars, ea. 6 Mol% at P f =5000 bars, and ca. 10 Mol% at P f =7000 bars. Thus, the fluid phase coexisting with zoisite is rich in H2O. While this is independent of temperature the experimental data demonstrate that the influence of pressure cannot be neglected: With increasing pressure the concentration of CO2 of the fluid phase coexisting with zoisite can rise a little. The position of the reaction studied, which is independent of temperature and exhibits small values of \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) ,leads to two important petrogenetic conclusions:
  1. The occurrence of zoisite is an indicator for a CO2-poor and H2O-rich fluid composition during metamorphism of marly calcsilicates.
  2. If the concentration of CO2 of the fluid phase coexisting with zoisite exceeds the equilibrium value of \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) calcite+anorthite+H2O is formed from zoisite+CO2. Thus, a considerable increase in the anorthite-content of plagioelase is possible.

During an experimental investigation of the metamorphism of siliceous dolomites the equilibrium data of the heterogeneous bivariant reaction 1 $$3{\text{ dolomite + 4 quartz + 1 H}}_{\text{2}} O \rightleftharpoons + 3 calcite + 3 CO_2 $$ were determined for the total fluid pressures of 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 bars. The equilibrium conditions were found by experiments in which dolomite, quartz and water react to form talc, calcite and CO2, as well as by experiments with reversible reaction direction. Results are shown on the temperature- \(X_{CO_2 } \) -diagram of Fig. 3. The temperature of formation of talc and calcite depends to a considerable extent on the composition of the CO2-H2O-gas phase; this can be read straight off the isobaric (P f =const.) equilibrium curves in Fig. 3. In addition a strong dependence of the equilibrium temperature on the total pressure P f was established (see Fig. 5). At a total gas pressure of 1,000 bars dolomite and quartz can react, according to the composition of the CO2-H2O-gas phase, to talc and calcite over the whole of the temperature range between about 350° and 490° C. This indicates that at low pressures the formation of talc and calcite takes place in the field of the albite-epidote-hornfels facies. At a pressure of 3,000 bars dolomite and quartz are stable up to about 550° C if the fluid phase is rich in carbon dioxide and correspondingly poor in water. Thus, this paragenesis can occur up to the stability field of staurolite [see annotation (5)] if the partial pressure of CO2 is large. At the higher total gas pressure of 5,000 bars dolomite and quartz react even at medium CO2-concentrations only at about 580° C to give talc and calcite. Therefore it is expected that in regional metamorphism at about 5,000 bars pressure or more the paragenesis dolomite plus quartz exists up to and within the stability field of staurolite and reacts only here to form talc and calcite after reaction (1) or tremolite and calcite after the following reaction (2)1: $$5 dolomite + 8 quartz + 1 H_2 O \rightleftharpoons 1 tremolite + 3 calcite + 7 CO_2 $$ . The exact physico-chemical conditions under which dolomite, quartz and water react on the one hand to form talc, calcite and CO2, and on the other hand to form tremolite, calcite and carbon dioxide, will be discussed later when our experimental investigations on the formation of tremolite are completed. First results were already published in a short note by Metz, Puhan and Winkler (1968).  相似文献

The reaction stilbite=laumontite+3 quartz+3 H2O was experimentally studied using conventional hydrothermal techniques employing mineral mixtures consisting of reactants and products in 91 and 19 ratios. Equilibrium was demonstrated; the univariant curve passes through about 170° C and 2000 bars, 185°±10° C and 3000 bars, about 185° C and 4000 bars, and 183°±10° C at 5000 bars P fluid. These results combined with published equilibria for analcime, laumontite, wairakite and prehnite permit delineation of the P-T conditions for the zeolite and prehnite-pumpellyite facies metamorphism in the Tanzawa Mountains, Japan.  相似文献

The stability relations between cordierite and almandite in rocks, having a composition of CaO poor argillaceous rocks, were experimentally investigated. The starting material consisted of a mixture of chlorite, muscovite, and quartz. Systems with widely varying Fe2+/Fe2++Mg ratios were investigated by using two different chlorites, thuringite or ripidolite, in the starting mixture. Cordierite is formed according to the following reaction: $${\text{Chlorite + muscovite + quartz}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{cordierite + biotite + Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{SiO}}_{\text{5}} + {\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}$$ . At low pressures this reaction characterizes the facies boundary between the albite-epidotehornfels facies and the hornblende-hornfels facies, at medium pressures the beginning of the cordierite-amphibolite facies. Experiments were carried out reversibly and gave the following equilibrium data: 505±10°C at 500 bars H2O pressure, 513±10°C at 1000 bars H2O pressure, 527±10°C at 2000 bars H2O pressure, and 557±10°C at 4000 bars H2O pressure. These equilibrium data are valid for the Fe-rich starting material, using thuringite as the chlorite, as well as for the Mg-rich starting mixture with ripidolite. At 6000 bars the equilibrium temperature for the Mg-rich mixture is 587±10°C. In the Fe-rich mixture almandite was formed instead of cordierite at 6000 bars. The following reaction was observed: $${\text{Thuringite + muscovite + quartz}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{almandite + biotite + Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{SiO}}_{\text{5}} {\text{ + H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}$$ . Experiments with the Fe-rich mixture, containing Fe2+/Fe2++Mg in the ratio 8∶10, yielded three stability fields in a P,T-diagram (Fig.1):
  1. Above 600°C/5.25 kb and 700°C/6.5 kb almandite+biotite+Al2SiO5 coexist stably, cordierite being unstable.
  2. The field, in which almandite, biotite and Al2SiO5 are stable together with cordierite, is restricted by two curves, passing through the following points:
    1. 625°C/5.5 kb and 700°C/6.5 kb,
    2. 625°C/5.5 kb and 700°C/4.0 kb.
  3. At conditions below curves 1 and 2b, cordierite, biotite, and Al2SiO5 are formed, but no garnet.
An appreciable MnO-content in the system lowers the pressures needed for the formation of almandite garnet, but the quantitative influence of the spessartite-component on the formation of almandite could not yet be determined. the Mg-rich system with Fe2+/Fe2++Mg=0.4 garnet did not form at pressures up to 7 kb in the temperature range investigated. Experiments at unspecified higher pressures (in a simple squeezer-type apparatus) yielded the reaction: $${\text{Ripidolite + muscovite + quartz}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{almandite + biotite + Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{SiO}}_{\text{5}} {\text{ + H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}$$ . Further experiments are needed to determine the equilibrium data. The occurence of garnet in metamorphic rocks is discussed in the light of the experimental results.  相似文献

The diffusion rates of carbon and oxygen in two calcite crystals of different Mn contents have been studied between 500° and 800° C in a CO2-H2O atmosphere (P CO 2=1?5 bars, P H2O=0.02?24 bars) labeled with 13C and 18O. Isotope concentration gradients within annealed specimens were measured using a secondary ion microprobe by depth profiling parallel and perpendicular to the c axis. Despite the anisotropic structure of calcite, the diffusion of carbon and oxygen are both very nearly isotropic. Least-squares fitting of the carbon data to an Arrhenius relation gives an activation energy of 87±2 kcal/mole, with D 0 terms dependent only slightly upon direction: 1 $$D_{\text{0}} {\text{(}}\parallel c{\text{) = }}\left( {9\frac{{ + 12}}{{ - 5}}} \right){\text{x10}}^{\text{2}} cm^2 /s$$ , 2 $$D_{\text{0}} {\text{(}} \bot c{\text{) = }}\left( {5\frac{{ + 6}}{{ - 3}}} \right){\text{x10}}^{\text{2}} cm^2 /s$$ . These results are in close agreement with previous determinations. Results for oxygen diffusion, however, give D values much larger than those previously reported for dry conditions; at 650° to 800° C the D values are two orders of magnitude larger. The diffusion of oxygen, unlike carbon, is strongly dependent on water pressure, as well as Mn content, and does not fit an Arrhenius relation over the entire temperature range. On the basis of these observations and considerations of the defect chemistry of calcite, it is proposed that carbon migrates as a Frenkel pair. The diffusion of oxygen, however, appears to be more complicated and may depend upon several simultaneous mechanisms.  相似文献

The Gibbs free energy and volume changes attendant upon hydration of cordierites in the system magnesian cordierite-water have been extracted from the published high pressure experimental data at \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) =P total, assuming an ideal one site model for H2O in cordierite. Incorporating the dependence of ΔG and ΔV on temperature, which was found to be linear within the experimental conditions of 500°–1,000°C and 1–10,000 bars, the relation between the water content of cordierite and P, T and \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) has been formulated as $$\begin{gathered} X_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}^{{\text{crd}}} = \hfill \\ \frac{{f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}^{{\text{P, T}}} }}{{\left[ {{\text{exp}}\frac{1}{{RT}}\left\{ {64,775 - 32.26T + G_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}^{{\text{1, }}T} - P\left( {9 \times 10^{ - 4} T - 0.5142} \right)} \right\}} \right] + f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}^{{\text{P, T}}} }} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The equation can be used to compute H2O in cordierites at \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) <1. Our results at different P, T and partial pressure of water, assuming ideal mixing of H2O and CO2 in the vapour phase, are in very good agreement with the experimental data of Johannes and Schreyer (1977, 1981). Applying the formulation to determine \(X_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}^{{\text{crd}}} \) in the garnet-cordierite-sillimanite-plagioclase-quartz granulites of Finnish Lapland as a test case, good agreement with the gravimetrically determined water contents of cordierite was obtained. Pressure estimates, from a thermodynamic modelling of the Fe-cordierite — almandine — sillimanite — quartz equilibrium at \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} = 0\) and \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) =Ptotal, for assemblages from South India, Scottish Caledonides, Daly Bay and Hara Lake areas are compatible with those derived from the garnetplagioclase-sillimanite-quartz geobarometer.  相似文献

Ephesite, Na(LiAl2) [Al2Si2O10] (OH)2, has been synthesized for the first time by hydrothermal treatment of a gel of requisite composition at 300≦T(° C)≦700 and \(P_{H_2 O}\) upto 35 kbar. At \(P_{H_2 O}\) between 7 and 35 kbar and above 500° C, only the 2M1 polytype is obtained. At lower temperatures and pressures, the 1M polytype crystallizes first, which then inverts to the 2M1 polytype with increasing run duration. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the 1M and 2M1 poly types can be indexed unambiguously on the basis of the space groups C2 and Cc, respectively. At its upper thermal stability limit, 2M1 ephesite decomposes according to the reaction (1) $$\begin{gathered} {\text{Na(LiAl}}_{\text{2}} {\text{) [Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{{\text{10}}} {\text{] (OH)}}_{\text{2}} \hfill \\ {\text{ephesite}} \hfill \\ {\text{ = Na[AlSiO}}_{\text{4}} {\text{] + LiAl[SiO}}_{\text{4}} {\text{] + }}\alpha {\text{ - Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{3}} {\text{ + H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}} \hfill \\ {\text{nepheline }}\alpha {\text{ - eucryptite corundum}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered}$$ Five reversal brackets for (1) have been established experimentally in the temperature range 590–750° C, at \(P_{H_2 O}\) between 400 and 2500 bars. The equilibrium constant, K, for this reaction may be expressed as (2) $$log K{\text{ = }}log f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} O}^* = 7.5217 - 4388/T + 0.0234 (P - 1)T$$ where \(f_{H_2 O}^* = f_{H_2 O} (P,T)/f_{H_2 O}^0\) (1,T), with T given in degrees K, and P in bars. Combining these experimental data with known thermodynamic properties of the decomposition products in (1), the following standard state (1 bar, 298.15 K) thermodynamic data for ephesite were calculated: H f,298.15 0 =-6237372 J/mol, S 298.15 0 =300.455 J/K·mol, G 298.15 0 =-5851994 J/mol, and V 298.15 0 =13.1468 J/bar·mol.  相似文献

P, T, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) relations of gehlenite, anorthite, grossularite, wollastonite, corundum and calcite have been determined experimentally at P f =1 and 4 kb. Using synthetic starting minerals the following reactions have been demonstrated reversibly
  1. 2 anorthite+3 calcite=gehlenite+grossularite+3 CO2.
  2. anorthite+corundum+3 calcite=2 gehlenite+3 CO2.
  3. 3anorthite+3 calcite=2 grossularite+corundum+3CO2.
  4. grossularite+2 corundum+3 calcite=3 gehlenite+3 CO2.
  5. anorthite+2 calcite=gehlenite+wollastonite+2CO2.
  6. anorthite+wollastonite+calcite=grossularite+CO2.
  7. grossularite+calcite=gehlenite+2 wollastonite+CO2.
In the T, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) diagram at P f =1 kb two isobaric invariant points have been located at 770±10°C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.27 and at 840±10°C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.55. Formation of gehlenite from low temperature assemblages according to (4) and (2) takes place at 1 kb and 715–855° C, \(X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) =0.1–1.0. In agreement with experimental results the formation of gehlenite in natural metamorphic rocks is restricted to shallow, high temperature contact aureoles.  相似文献

For the reaction: 1 diopside+3 dolomite ?2 forsterite+4 calcite+2 CO2 (14) the following P total?T-brackets have been determined experimentally in the presence of a gasphase consisting of 90 mole%CO2 and 10 mole%H2O∶1 kb, 544°±20° C; 3kb, 638°±15° C; 5kb, 708°±10° C; 10kb, 861°±10° C. The determination was carried out with well defined synthetic minerals in the starting mixture. The MgCO3-contents of the magnesian calcites formed by the reaction in equilibrium with dolomite agree very well with the calcite-dolomite miscibility gap, which can be recalculated from the activities and the activity coefficients of MgCO3 as given by Gordon and Greenwood (1970). The equilibrium constant K 14b was calculated with respect to the reference pressure P 0=1 bar using the experimentally determined \(P_{total} TX_{CO_2 }\) brackets, the activities of MgCO3 and CaCO3 (Gordon and Greenwood 1970; Skippen 1974) and the fugacities of CO2 Holloway (1977) considering the correction of Flowers (1979). Results are plotted as function of the absolute reciprocal temperature in Fig. 1. For the temperature range of 530° to 750° C the following linear expression can be given for the natural logarithm of K14b: (g) $$[ln K_{14b} ]_T^P = - \frac{{18064.43}}{{T\left( {^\circ K} \right)}} + 38.58 + \frac{{0.308(P - 1 bar)}}{{T\left( {^\circ K} \right)}}$$ where P is the total pressure in bars and T the temperature in degrees Kelvin. Combining Equation (g) with the activities of MgCO3 and CaCO3 gives the equilibrium fugacity \(f_{CO_2 }\) : (i) $$[ln f_{CO_2 } ]_T^P = - \frac{{11635.44}}{{T\left( {^\circ K} \right)}} + 21.09 + \frac{{0.154(P - 1 bar)}}{{T\left( {^\circ K} \right)}}$$ Equation (i) and the fugacities of CO2 permit to calculate the equilibrium data in terms of \(P_{CO_2 }\) and T (see Fig. 3) or P total, T and \(X_{CO_2 }\) (see Fig. 5). Combining the \(P_{total} TX_{CO_2 }\) equilibrium data of the above reaction with those of the previously investigated reaction (Metz 1976): 1 tremolite+11 dolomite ?8 forsterite+13 calcite+9 CO2+1 H2O yields the stability conditions of the four-mineral assemblage: diopside+calcian dolomite+forsterite +magnesian calcite and the stability conditions of the five-mineral assemblage: tremolite+calcian dolomite+forsterite +magnesian calcite+diopside both shown in Fig. 6. Since these assemblages are by no means rare in metamorphic siliceous dolomites (Trommsdorff 1972; Suzuki 1977; Puhan 1979) the data of Fig. 6 can be used to determine the pressure of metamorphism and to estimate the composition of the CO2-H2O fluid provided the temperature of the metamorphic event was determined using the calcite-dolomite geothermometer.  相似文献

In a regional metamorphic terrain where six isograds have been mapped based on mineral reactions that are observed in metacarbonate rocks, the P-T conditions and fugacities of CO2 and H2O during metamorphism were quantified by calculations involving actual mineral compositions and experimental data. Pressure during metamorphism was near 3,500 bars. Metamorphic temperatures ranged from 380° C (biotite-chlorite isograd) to 520° C (diopside isograd). \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) and \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) / \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) in general is higher in metacarbonate rocks below the zoisite isograd than in those above the zoisite isograd. Calculated \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) and \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) are consistent with carbonate rocks above the zoisite isograd having equilibrated during metamorphism with a bulk supercritical fluid in which \(P_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) + \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) = P total. Calculations indicate that below the zoisite isograd, however, \(P_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) + \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) was less than Ptotal, and that this condition is not due to the presence of significant amounts of species other than CO2 and H2O in the system C-O-H-S. Calculated \(P_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) /( \(P_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) + \(P_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) ) is low (0.06–0.32) above the zoisite isograd. The differences in conditions above and below the zoisite isograd may indicate that the formation of zoisite records the introduction of a bulk supercritical H2O-rich fluid into the metacarbonates. The results of the study indicate that \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) and \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) are constant on a thin section scale, but that gradients in \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }\) and \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}}\) existed during metamorphism on both outcrop and regional scales.  相似文献

Liquidus and subliquidus phase relations of a leucite-lamproite (wolgidite) from the West Kimberley area, Australia have been studied experimentally under the volatile conditions of 3.22 wt.% H2O ( \(X_{CO_2 }\) =0.11) and 13.0 wt.% H2O ( \(X_{CO_2 }\) =0.03) between 10 to 40 kbar. Under these conditions, liquids are vapour undersaturated. In experiments with 13.0 wt.% H2O, olivine is the liquidus phase up to 24 kbar and orthopyroxene above 24 kbar. Phlogopite and rutile occur close to the liquidus above 16 kbar. Crystallization temperatures of clinopyroxenes are 50–120° C below the liquidus. Based on these results, wolgidite magma is unlikely to be a partial melt of a garnet- or spinel-lherzolite mantle but could be derived from phlogopite+rutile±olivine±or-thopyroxene assemblages occurring as metasomatized mantle.  相似文献

An empirically derived Redlich-Kwong type of equation of state (ERK) is proposed for H2O, expressing a, the term related to the attraction between the molecules, as a pressure-independent function of temperature, and b, the covolume, as a temperature-independent function of pressure. The coefficients of a(T) and b(P) were derived by least squares non-linear regression, using P-V-T data given by Burnham et al. (1969b) and Rice and Walsh (1957) in conjunction with more precise recent data obtained by Tanishita et al. (1976), Hilbert (1979) and Schmidt (1979): $$a(T) = 1.616 x 10^8 - 4.989 x 10^4 T - 7.358 x 10^9 T^{ - 1} $$ and $$ = \frac{{1 + 3.4505x 10^{--- 4} P + 3.8980x 10^{--- 9} P^2 - 2.7756x 10^{--- 15} P^3 }}{{6.3944x 10^{--- 2} + 2.3776x 10^{--- 5} + 4.5717x 10^{--- 10} P^2 }}$$ , where T is expressed in Kelvin and P in bars. The ERK works very well at upper mantle conditions, at least up to 200 kbar and 1,000 °C. At subcritical conditions and those somewhat above the critical point, it still reproduces the molar Gibbs energy, \(\tilde G_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) , with a maximum deviation of 400 joules. Thus, for the purpose of calculation of geologically interesting heterogeneous equilibria, it predicts the thermodynamic properties of H2O well enough. The values of molar volume, \(\tilde V_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) , and \(\tilde G_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) are tabulated in the appendix over a considerable P-T range. A FORTRAN program generating these functions as well as a FORTRAN subroutine for calculating the fugacity values, \(f_{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}} \) for incorporation into existing programs, are available upon request.  相似文献

The diffusion of water in natural obsidian and model dacitic melts (Ab90Di8Wo2, mol %) has been studied at water vapor pressure up to 170 MPa, temperatures of 1200°C, H2O contents in melts up to ~6 wt % using a high gas pressure apparatus equipped with a unique internal device. The experiments were carried out by a new low-gradient technique with application of diffusion hydration of a melt from fluid phase. The water solubility in the melts and its concentration along $C_{H_2 O} $ diffusion profiles were determined using IR microspectrometry by application of the modified Bouguer-Beer-Lambert equation. A structural-chemical model was proposed to calculate and predict the concentration dependence of molar absorption coefficients of the hydroxyl groups (OH?) and water molecules (H2O) in acid polymerized glasses (quenched melts) in the obsidian-dacite series. The water diffusion coefficients $D_{H_2 O} $ were obtained by the mathematical analysis of concentration profiles and the analytical solution of the second Fick diffusion law using the Boltzman-Matano method. It was shown experimentally that $D_{H_2 O} $ exponentially increases with a growth of water concentration in the obsidian and dacitic melts within the entire range of diffusion profiles. Based on the established quantitative correlation between $D_{H_2 O} $ and viscosity of such melts, a new method was developed to predict and calculate the concentration, temperature, and pressure dependences of $D_{H_2 O} $ in acid magmatic melts (obsidian, rhyolite, albite, granite, dacite) at crustal T, P parameters and water concentrations up to 6 wt %.  相似文献

Equilibria for several reactions in the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-CO2-H2O have been calculated from the reactions calcite+quartz=wollastonite+CO2 (5) and calcite+Al2SiO5+quartz=anorthite+CO2 (19) and other published experimental studies of equilibria in the systems Al2O3-SiO2-H2O and CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O.The calculations indicate that the reactions laumontite+CO2=calcite+kaolinite+2 quartz+2H2O (1) and laumontite+calcite=prehnite+quartz+3H2O+CO2 (3) in the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-CO2-H2O, are in equilibrium with an H2O-CO2 fluid phase having -0.0075 for P fluid=P total=2000 bars. These calculations limit the stability of zeolite assemblages to low p CO2.Using the above reactions as model equilibria, several probelms of p CO2 in low grade metamorphism are discussed. (a) the problem of producing zeolitic minerals from metasedimentary assemblages of carbonate, clay mineral, quartz. (b) the significance of calcite (or aragonite) associated with zeolite (or lawsonite) in low grade metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration. (c) the reaction of zeolites (or lawsonite) with calcite (or aragonite) to produce dense Ca-Al-hydrosilicates (eg. prehnite, zoisite, grossular).  相似文献

The high-grade assemblage Cd-Ga-Si-Qz can be thermodynamically modelled from available calorimetric data on the metastable reaction: (I) $$3 MgCd \rightleftarrows 2 Py + 4 Si + 5 Qz$$ naturalK D Fe-Mg between garnet and cordierite and experimental results on cordierite hydration. In the system SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-H2O, reaction (I) becomes (II) $$3 MgCd \cdot nH_2 O \rightleftarrows 2 Py + 4 Si + 5 Qz + 3 nH_2 O$$ . However, hydrous cordierite is neither a hydrate nor a solid solution between water and anhydrous cordierite and when nH2O (number of moles of H2O in Cd) is plotted against \(P_{H_2 O} \) , the resulting isotherms are similar to adsorption isotherms characteristic of zeolitic minerals. Reaction (II) can thus be considered as a combination of reaction (I) with a physical equilibrium of the type nH2O (in Cd)?nH2O (in vapor phase). Starting from a point on equilibrium (I), introduction of H2O into anhydrous Mg-cordierite lowers the chemical potential of MgCd and hence stabilizes this mineral to higher pressure relative to the right-hand assemblage in reaction (I). The pressure increment of stabilization,ΔP, above the pressure limit of anhydrous cordierite stability at constantT, has been calculated using the standard thermodynamics of adsorption isotherms. Cordierite is regarded as a mixture of Mg2Al4Si5O18 and H2O. The activity of H2O in the cordierite is evaluated relative to an hypothetical standard state extrapolated from infinite H2O dilution, by using measured hydration data. The activity of Mg2Al4Si5O18 in the cordierite is then obtained by integration of the Gibbs-Duhem equation, and the pressure stabilization increment,ΔP, computed by means of the relation: $$\Delta V_s \Delta P \cong - RT\ln a_{MgCd}^{MgCd \cdot nH2O} \left( {\Delta V indepentdent of P and T} \right)$$ . Thus, one may contour theP-T plane in isopleths of nH2O=constant within the area of Mg-cordierite stability allowed by the hydration data for \(P_{H_2 O} = P_{total} \) . The present model indicates greater stabilization of cordierite by H2O than the model of Newton and Wood (1979) and the calculated curve for metastable breakdown of hydrous MgCd is consistent with experimental data on cordierite breakdown at \(P_{H_2 O} = P_{total} \) . Mg/(Mg+Fe) isopleths have been derived for cordierites of varying nH2O in the SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-FeO-H2O system using the additional assumptions that (Fe, Mg) cordierite and (Fe, Mg) garnet behave as ideal solutions, and that typical values of the distribution coefficient of Fe and Mg between coexisting garnet and cordierite observed in natural parageneses can be applied to the calculations. The calculated stable breakdown curve of Fe-cordierite under conditions of \(P_{H_2 O} = P_{total} \) to almandine, sillimanite, quartz and vapor has a positive slope (dP/dT) apparently in contrast to the experimental negative slope. This may be explained by hydration kinetics, which could have allowed systematic breakdown of cordierites of metastable hydration states in the experiments. The bivariant Cd-Ga fields calibrated from the present model are, potentially, good petrogenetic indicators, as, given the iron-magnesium ratio of garnet and cordierite and the hydration number of cordierite, the temperature, pressure and water fugacity are uniquely determined. As this geothermobarometer is in part based on the water content of cordierite, it can be used only if there is some assurance that the actual hydration is inherited from high-grade metamorphic conditions. Such conditions could be realised if the slope of unloading-cooling retrograde metamorphism is more or less parallel to a cordierite isohydron.  相似文献

The melting of phlogopite-quartz and sanidine-quartz under vapor-absent conditions and in the presence of H2O-CO2 vapor have been determined from 5–20 kbar. In the lower crust (P=6–10 kbar), phlogopite + quartz melts incongruently to enstatite + liquid at temperatures as low as 710° C in the presence of H2O. When the activity of water is sufficiently reduced by addition of CO2, phlogopite + quartz undergoes a dehydration reaction to enstatite + sanidine + vapor, for example at 790±10° C, 5 kbar, with \(X_{H_2 O}^V\) =0.35. In the absence of vapor, phlogopite + quartz is stable up to a maximum temperature of 900° C in the crust; at higher temperatures this assemblage melts incongruently to enstatite + sanidine + liquid. The melting of sanidine-quartz in the presence of H2O-CO2 vapor shows marked topological differences from melting in the system albite-H2O-CO2, and as a result, apparent activity coefficients for water calculated from sanidine-quartz H2O-CO2 are less than those calculated from albite-H2O-CO2 by up to a factor of five. These data shed light on anatexis in the lower crust, but uncertainties related to ordering of Al and Si in natural and synthetic micas forestall a more rigorous analysis. Nevertheless, maximum temperatures for some granulite terranes can be established.  相似文献

A great wealth of analytical data for fluid inclusions in minerals indicate that the major species of gases in fluid inclusions are H2O, CO2, CO, CH4, H2 and O2. Three basic chemical reactions are supposed to prevail in rock-forming and ore-forming fluids: $$\begin{gathered} H_2 + 1/2{\text{ O}}_{\text{2}} = H_2 O, \hfill \\ CO + 1/2{\text{ O}}_{\text{2}} = CO_2 , \hfill \\ CH_4 + 2{\text{O}}_{\text{2}} = CO_2 + 2H_2 O, \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ and equilibria are reached among them. \(\lg f_{O_2 } - T,{\text{ }}\lg f_{CO_2 } - T\) and Eh-T charts for petrogenesis and minerogenesis in the supercritical state have been plotted under different pressures. On the basis of these charts \(f_{O^2 } ,{\text{ }}f_{CO_2 } \) , Eh, equilibrium temperature and equilibrium pressure can be readily calculated. In this paper some examples are presented to show their successful application in the study of the ore-forming environments of ore deposits.  相似文献

Using graphical analysis of the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O-CO2, this paper derives a topology relating the minerals calcite, laumontite, wairakite, prehnite, quartz, and zoisite. Simple thermodynamic reasoning allows this system to be applied to natural rocks and indicates that the first appearance of the assemblage epidote-chlorite-quartz (±albite) should mark the upper boundary of zeolite facies. This assemblage forms at the expense of laumontite+prehnite, laumontite+calcite, or laumontite+pumpellyite, with wairakite likely to replace laumontite as the stable zeolite at low pressures. In natural systems this proposed facies boundary is multivariant and, hence, it is likely to be strongly sensitive to compositional variables. For example, Na-bearing wairakite will be more stable than pure Ca-wairakite and increasing abundance of Fe3+ will tend to stabilize epidote+quartz at the expense of the zeolites. Because of this, monitoring the composition of minerals such as epidote, prehnite, or wairakite from lowvariance assemblages may provide a more-sensitive indicator of metamorphic grade than the presence or absence of any particular mineral assemblage.  相似文献
