The time evolution behaviour of the superhumps of the dwarf nova1RXS J232953.9+ 062814 is investigated with the wavelet analysis method. On the basis of two nights CCD photometry performed during its first superoutburst as well as other published brightness data, we reveal the superhump's time-dependence as a function of periods and time. Our light curves, which phased in the rapid decay ending portion of the superoutburst and in the dawn of a following normal outburst, are important to help trace the superhump evolution for the star. Both the superhump period and the orbital period of the binary system are detected in the present data. We obtain P sh=0.0458±0.0002d and P orb=0.0450±0.0002d. They agree with those existing values. The two periods exchanged their roles during the superhump evolution. The general profile of brightness fading over the outbursts roughly followed an exponential decay law or a form of a five-order polynomial. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The results obtained from unfiltered photometric CCD observations of AY Psc made during 17, 20 and 12 nights, respectively, in 2003, 2004 and 2005 are presented. A period of 0.21732 ± 0.00001 d was detected in the data. This period is consistent with the previously proposed orbital period of Porb = 0.2173209 d ((Diaz and Steiner, 1990)). Since this period was present in the light curves taken in all three years, with no apparent change in its value or amplitude, it is interpreted as the orbital period of this binary system. In addition, quasi-periodicities of 0.2057 ± 0.0001 d, 0.2063 ± 0.0001 d, 0.2072 ± 0.0001 d for the years 2003, 2004 and 2005, respectively, were also discovered. These periods were interpreted as negative superhump periods and it was seen that they changes from year to year. Therefore AY Psc is then classified as a negative superhump system.  相似文献

We report on time-resolved photometry carried out during the 1995 short outburst and the 1997 long outburst in the eclipsing dwarf nova DV UMa. The revised orbital period is 0.0858526172 (67) d. We detected gigantic superhumps with an amplitude of ∼0.6 mag in the mid-phase of the 1997 outburst, revealing the SU UMa nature of DV UMa. The superhump period is 0.0887 (4) d. The superhumps became less clear during the late phase of the superoutburst, and we found two possible periods of 0.0885 (15) and 0.0764 (15). During both outbursts, the eclipse was wide and shallow near the maximum, and then became narrower and deeper, which is qualitatively well explained by the current disc instability theory.  相似文献

I propose that the properties of the two outbursts observed in the X‐ray transient XTEJ1118+480 in 2000 are akin to superoutbursts of SU UMa stars. In these systems a ‘normal’ outburst immediately precedes a 5–10 times longer (‘super’) outburst. The optical light curve of the outbursts of XTEJ1118+480 is remarkably similar to that seen in some SU UMa stars, such as UVPer and TLeo, where the precursor outburst is distinct from the superoutburst, but the time scales are a factor of ∼15 different. The first outburst of XTEJ1118+480 was relatively short (∼1 month) while the second outburst was ∼5 times longer. During the second outburst superhumps were seen, a feature characteristic for superoutbursts. The gap of about a month between the two outbursts is longer in X‐rays with respect to the optical, a feature not previously recognized for X‐ray transients. Also in SU UMa stars the precursor outburst becomes more distinct at shorter wavelengths. Finally, I show that the time of appearance of the superhumps in XTEJ1118+480 is consistent with the expected superhump growth time, if the superhump mechanism was triggered during the first outburst. I conclude that the similarity in outburst behaviour in the two types of systems provides further support that a common mechanism is at work to start the long (‘super’) outbursts.  相似文献

We present R-band photometric observations of Cataclysmic Variable dwarf nova SU UMa SDSS J162520.29+120308.7 during the July 2010 superoutburst, from near maximum through decline and into a single rebrightening. We find a maximum superoutburst amplitude of ∼ 6.1 magnitudes and a maximum rebrightening amplitude of ∼4 magnitudes. Near superoutburst maximum, we find 0.09604(3) days for the mean Stage B positive superhump period and a much longer period for the hump shaped modulation during the rebrightening. For the orbital period, we find Porb = 0.09113(30) days. As all periods both agree and disagree with values reported by others, additional observations are needed. Our 2015 observations of this system in quiescence reveal a 0.09080(20) day orbital period. As our 2010 value is within the error bars of a spectroscopically determined value and our 2015 photometrically determined value, we suggest 0.09113(30) days as the orbital period for this system. As for the secondary-to-primary mass ratio, analytical models using observed orbital and Stage B positive superhump periods as input suggest q = 0.221. As a check, we present a 3D SPH simulation of the rise to, and during the plateau stage of, the SU UMa in superoutburst, assuming Porb=0.09113 days. For Stages A and B, we find 0.09717 days and 0.09702 days, respectively, for the average simulated positive superhump periods. Analytical models using these simulated Stages A and B and the simulated orbital period suggest q = 0.1920(4) and q = 0.221, respectively, for this system. Due to the poorly constrained observational data and the similar mass ratio estimates regardless of stage, we can neither confirm nor deny that Stage A is better than Stage B for determining mass ratio in CV dwarf novae SU UMa systems. Additional observations and simulations are needed to further test this recently proposed hypothesis. For now, we suggest an average q = 0.21(1) for this system.  相似文献

In this work, we present R-band photometric light curves of Cataclysmic Variable AW Sge, an SU Uma type, near superoutburst maximum. The positive superhump shape changes over three days, from single peaked on October 11, 2013 to one maximum near phase ϕ ∼ 0.3 followed by minor peaks near phases ϕ ∼ 0.6 and ϕ ∼ 0.9, respectively, on October 13, 2013. Using the maxima from October 11–13, 2013 (JD 2456577–2356579), the observed positive superhump period is 0.074293 ± 0.000025 days.In addition to the observations, we also provide a three dimensional Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic simulation near superoutburst maximum, for comparison, assuming a secondary-to-primary mass ratio q=M2/M1 = 0.6 M/0.132 M = 0.22. The simulation produces positive superhump shapes that are similar to the observations. The simulated positive superhump has a period of 0.076923 days, which is approximately 6% longer than the orbital period, assuming an orbital period Porb = 0.0724 days. The 3.5% difference from the observed positive superhump period is likely due to the assumptions used in generating the simulations, as the orbital period and masses are not well known. From an analysis of the simulated positive superhump shape near superoutburst maximum, the maximum occurs near ϕ ∼ 0.3, when the disk is highly elliptical and eccentric and at least one of the two density waves is compressing with the disk rim. Based on the simulation, we find that the disk may be tilted and precessing in the retrograde direction at a time that is just before the next outburst and/or superoutburst.  相似文献

We obtained complete V and Rc light curves of the eclipsing binary V380 Gem in 2012. With our data we were able to determine six new times of minimum light and refine the orbital period of the system to 0.3366088 days. The 2003 version of the Wilson–Devinney code was used to analyze the light curves in the V and Rc bands simultaneously. It is shown that V380 Gem may be classified as an W-type W Ursae Majoris system with a high mass ratio q = 1.45, a degree of contact f = 10.6% the same temperature for both the components (ΔT = 10 K) and an orbital inclination of i  = 81.5°. Our observations show symmetric light curves in all passbands with brightness in both maxima at the same level. The absolute dimensions of V380 Gem are estimated and its dynamical evolution is inferred.  相似文献

This paper presents the absolute parameters of RZ Dra. New CCD observations were made at the Mt. Suhora Observatory in 2007. Two photometric data sets (1990 BV and 2007 BVRI) were analysed using modern light-curve synthesis methods. Large asymmetries in the light curves may be explained in terms of a dark starspot on the primary component, an A6 type star. Due to this magnetic activity, the primary component would appear to belong to the class of Ap-stars and would show small amplitude with δ Scuti-type pulsations. With this in mind, a time-series analysis of the residual light curves was made. However, we found no evidence of pulsation behaviour in RZ Dra. Combining the solutions of our light curves and Rucinski et al. (2000)’s radial velocity curves, the following absolute parameters of the components were determined: M1 = 1.63 ± 0.03 M, M2 = 0.70 ± 0.02 M, R1 = 1.65 ± 0.02R, R2 = 1.15 ± 0.02 R, L1 = 9.72 ± 0.30 L and L2 = 0.74 ± 0.10 L. The distance to RZ Dra was calculated as 400 ± 25 pc, taking into account interstellar extinction. The orbital period of the system was studied using updated OC information. It was found that the orbital period varied in its long-period sinusoidal form, superimposed on a downward parabola. The parabolic term shows a secular period decrease at a slow rate of 0.06 ± 0.02 s per century and is explained by the mass loss via magnetized wind of the Ap-star primary. The tilted sinusoidal form of the period variation may be considered as an apparent change and may be interpreted in terms of the light-time effect due to the presence of a third body.  相似文献

This paper presents new CCD Bessell BVRI light curves and photometric analysis of the Algol-type binary star TX Her. The CCD observations were carried out at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Observatory in 2010. New BVRI light curves from this study and radial velocity curves from Popper (1970) were solved simultaneously using modern light and radial velocity curves synthesis methods. The general results show that TX Her is a well-detached eclipsing binary, however, both component stars fill at least half of their Roche lobes. A significant third light contribution to the total light of the system could not be determined. Using OC residuals formed by the updated minima times, an orbital period study of the system was performed. It was confirmed that the tilted sinusoidal OC variation corresponds to an apparent period variation caused by the light travel time effect due to an unseen third body. The following absolute parameters of the components were derived: M1 = 1.62 ± 0.04 M, M2 = 1.45 ± 0.03 M, R1 = 1.69 ± 0.03 R, R2 = 1.43 ± 0.03 R, L1 = 8.21 ± 0.90 L and L2 = 3.64 ± 0.60 L. The distance to TX Her was calculated as 155 ± 10 pc, taking into account interstellar extinction. The position of the components of TX Her in the HR diagram are also discussed. The components are young stars with an age of ~500 Myr.  相似文献

Hipparcos photometric data for the massive O-type binary UW CMa were analysed within the framework of the Roche model. Photometric solutions were obtained for five mass ratios in the q = M2/M1 = 0.5–1.5 range. The system is found to be in a contact configuration. Independently of q, the best-fitting model solutions correspond to the orbital inclination i  71° and the temperature of the secondary component T2  33500 K, at the fixed temperature of the primary T1 = 33750 K. Considering that the spectrum of the secondary is very weak, photometric solutions corresponding to the contact configuration favor the mass ratio q smaller than unity (in which case the luminosity of the secondary is smaller than that of the primary). The absolute parameters of the system are estimated for different values of the mass ratio.  相似文献

We assume that the helium-I lines emitted by the massive binary system η Carinae are formed in the acceleration zone of the less-massive secondary star. We calculate the Doppler shift of the lines as a function of orbital phase and of several parameters of the binary system. We find that a good fit is obtained if the helium lines are formed in the region where the secondary wind speed is vzone = 430 km s−1. The acceptable binary eccentricity is in the range 0.90  e  0.95, and the inclination angle (the angle between a line perpendicular to the orbital plane and the line of sight) is in the range 40°  i  55°. Lower values of e require higher values of i, and vice versa. The binary system is oriented such that the secondary star is in our direction (closer to us) during periastron passage. The orbital motion can account in part to the Doppler shift of the peak in X-ray emission.  相似文献

Photometric properties of known and suspected members of the SU UMa subclass of dwarf novae are tabulated and discussed. The precessing disc model of superoutbursts gives a satisfactory quantitative explanation of the periods of superhumps and their changes during superoutburst. The systems such as WZ Sge and HV Vir that have very long intervals between superoutbursts are deduced to be beyond the orbital period minimum, and have degenerate secondaries. The systems such as V1159 Ori that have extremely short recurrence times have high rates of mass transfer and are the equivalent of the Z Cam subclass that occurs at longer orbital periods.A simplified analytical approach to the theory of accretion discs is able to explain the correlations between normal and superoutburst recurrence times. It also explains the slope of the plateau region of superoutbursts, and why the slope is shallower in the very short recurrence time systems.  相似文献

Upon discovery, in November of 1892, Comet 17P/Holmes was experiencing a very strong explosion, which repeated itself on an even greater scale in October of 2007. Using a numerical scheme, based on mass and energy conservation laws, a model is presented simulating the outbursting nature of Comet 17P/Holmes by regarding the comet as a stratified sphere. The model, adopting input parameters for physical and chemical characteristics, produces output for volatile, water and dust production rates and temperature distribution. Providing the model with known properties of Comet 17P/Holmes, and then filling in the blanks based on properties of other short period comets, allowed the derivation of a specific chemical composition and thermal conductivity that produced a recurring outburst pattern every ~30 years, while within these there is a near-perihelion outburst every ~102 years. The specific composition that generated the desired results, consists of an ice-dust ratio of 0.6/0.4, and mass fractions of 0.015, 0.002 and 0.0005 for CO, CO2 and NH3 accordingly. The effective dust conductivity accompanying this composition is Kd = 0.7 W/(m K). The results are consistent with observations on multiple levels, including the various production rates during outbursts and the time span between near perihelion outbursts.  相似文献

We present a multicolor photometry for the eclipsing binary WY Hydrae, observed on four nights of 2008 December. From our new observations and Carr’s data, the photometric solutions were deduced by using the updated W–D program. The results show that WY Hya is a detached binary with a mass ratio of q = 0.970(±0.005).By analyzing the OC curve, it is found that there exists either a continuous period increase or a cyclic variation. From Eq. (2), the orbital period of WY Hya secularly increases at a rate of dP/dt = +3.56(±0.37) × 10?7 days/yr, which may be interpreted by some mass transfer for the near-contact configuration or tidal dissipation. From Eq. (3), the period and semi-amplitude of the periodic oscillation are P3 = 95.4(±4.2) yr and A = 0d.0087(±0d.0003), respectively. This may be likely attributed by light-time effect via the presence of the assumed third body. Assumed in the coplanar orbit with the binary, the mass of the third body should be M3 = 0.18 M. If the unseen additional companion exists, it will extract angular momentum from the binary system. Finally, WY Hya with high fill-out factors (i.e., f1,2 > 80%), may evolve into a semi-detached configuration.  相似文献

Both V701 Sco and BH Cen are two early-type short-period overcontact systems (P = 0.d762 and P = 0.d792, respectively). V701 Sco is a member of the young galactic cluster NGC 6383, while BH Cen is a component of a younger galactic cluster IC 2944 where star formation is in process. They provide good opportunity to understand the formation and evolution of binary stars. In the present paper, orbital period changes of the two binaries are investigated. It is discovered that the orbital period of BH Cen shows a long-term increase with a rate of dP/dt = +1.70(±0.39) × 10−7 days/year while it undergoes a cyclic oscillation with a period of 44.6 years and an amplitude of A3 = 0.d0216. For V701 Sco, its O-C curve reveals a periodic change with a period of 41.2 years and amplitude of A3 = 0.d0158. The mass ratio of BH Cen is 0.84, but V701 Sco contains twin B1-1.5V type stars with a mass ratio of unit. The continuous period increase of BH Cen is caused by the mass transfer from the less massive component to the more massive one at a rate of dM2/dt = 3.5 × 10−6 days/year.The cyclic period changes of both systems can be plausibly explained as the results of light-travel time effects suggesting that they are triple systems. The astrophysical parameters of the unseen tertiary components in the two systems have been determined. We think that the invisible tertiary components in both binaries played an important role in the formations and evolutions of the overcontact configurations by bringing angular momentum out from the central systems. For BH Cen, this process created the initial short period and will support its evolution into an overcontact configuration via a Case A mass transfer within the life time of the extremely young cluster IC 2944. For V701 Sco, two identical zero-age main-sequence components in an overcontact configuration suggest that it may have been formed by fission, possibly by the fission of the third body. The fact that no long-term continuous period variations were found for V701 Sco may suggest that an overcontact binary with the mass ratio of unity can be in an equilibrium revealing that the original configuration of the binary was overcontact as is its present state. It has been reported that faint stars in the two extremely young clusters are relatively scare. From the present study, it is shown that faint stars in young clusters are usually formed as companions of OB stars (including binaries). It is very difficult to detect them because of their low luminosity when compared with the more luminous OB stars.  相似文献

We present new B- and V-band photometry of the W UMa-type binary system QX And, which is a member of the open cluster NGC 752. Revised orbital period and new ephemerides were given for the binary system based on the data of times of light minima. The result of a period analysis reveals that the system is undergoing a continuous orbital period increase during the past decades. The rate of period increasing turns out to be about 2.7 × 10?7 d yr?1. With the Wilson–Devinney code, a photometric solution is computed. It yields a contact configuration for the system with a filling factor of 0.361. Combining the results from the photometric solution along with that from the radial-velocity observations, we have determined the absolute parameters for the two components of the system. The masses, radii and luminosity of the primary and secondary stars are calculated as 1.43 ± 0.04 M, 1.45 ± 0.09 R, 2.87 ± 0.40 L and 0.44 ± 0.02 M, 0.87 ± 0.05 R, 0.99 ± 0.13 L, respectively. The evolutionary status and physical nature of the contact binary system were discussed compared with the theoretical models.  相似文献

We present results of a study that combines UBVI photometry, MK spectral classification and proper motions in the area of the, up to now unknown, open cluster Ruprecht 58 at the Puppis region. Star counts from the 2MASS data catalog together with the analysis of CCD UBVI photometry demonstrate that it is a real open cluster with 9′ size approximately. The cluster is placed at a distance of 3.9 kpc and is about 250 Myr old with mean reddening E(BV) = 0.33 mag. Proper motions confirm Ruprecht 58 is a real cluster with mean absolute proper motions μαcosδ = −2.77 ± 0.45 mas/yr and μδ = 4.54 ± 0.45 mas/yr in the magnitude range 13.5 < V < 14.5 and μαcosδ = −2.70 ± 0.32 mas/yr and μδ = 3.19 ± 0.32 mas/yr in the range 14.5 < V < 16.0. The computation of the cluster mass spectrum slope yielded x = 1.8 in the mass range from ≈1.4 to ≈4m.  相似文献

Using reliable trigonometric measurements, we find that the absolute magnitude of cataclysmic variables depends on the orbital period and de-reddened (J  H)0 and (H  K s)0 colours of 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey) photometric system. The calibration equation covers the ranges 0.032d < Porb  0.454d, −0.08 < (J  H)0  1.54, −0.03 < (H  Ks)0  0.56 and 2.0 < MJ < 11.7; It is based on trigonometric parallaxes with relative errors of (σπ/π)  0.4. By using the period-luminosity-colours (PLCs) relation, we estimated the distances of cataclysmic variables with orbital periods and 2MASS observations and compared them with distances found from other methods. We suggest that the PLCs relation can be a useful statistical tool to estimate the distances of cataclysmic variables.  相似文献

We present the results of our investigation on the geometrical and physical parameters of W UMa-type binary TYC1174-344-1 from analyzed CCD (BVRI) light curves and radial velocity data. The photometric data were obtained in 2009 at Ankara University Observatory (AUO) and the spectroscopic observations were made in 2008 at Astrophysical Observatory of Asiago (Italy). Light and radial velocity observations were analyzed simultaneously by using the well-known Wilson–Devinney (2007 revision) code to obtain absolute and geometrical parameters. According to our solutions, the system is found to be a low mass-ratio A-type W UMa system. Combining our photometric solution with the spectroscopic data, we derived mass and radii of the eclipsing system as M1 = 1.381 M, M2 = 0.258 M, R1 = 1.449 R and R2 = 0.714 R. We finally discussed the evolutionary condition of the system.  相似文献

This study presents the absolute parameters of the contact binary system V376 And. CCD photometric observations were made at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Observatory in 2004. The instrumental magnitudes of all observed stars were converted into standard magnitudes. New BV light curves of the system were analysed using the Wilson–Devinney method supplemented with a Monte Carlo type algorithm. Since there are large asymmetries between maxima (i.e., O’Connell effect) in these light curves, two different models (one with a cool spot and one with a hot spot) were applied to the photometric data. The best fit, which was obtained with a large hot spot on the secondary component, gives V376 And as an A sub-type contact binary in poor thermal contact and a small value of the filling factor (f  0.07). Combining the solutions of our light curves and Rucinski et al. (2001)’s radial velocity curves, the following absolute parameters of the components were determined: M1 = 2.44 ± 0.04 M, M2 = 0.74 ± 0.03 M, R1 = 2.60 ± 0.03 R, R2 = 1.51 ± 0.02 R, L1 = 40 ± 4 L and L2 = 5 ± 1 L. We also discuss the evolution of the system, which appears to have an age of 1.6 Gyr. The distance to V376 And was calculated as 230 ± 20 pc from this analysis, taking into account interstellar extinction.  相似文献
