We report on the discovery of an optical jet-Rosette HH2-in the Rosette Nebula. The jet system bears unique features for residing at the center of a giant HII region, and its energy source is visible with apparently very low extinction along the line of sight. Unlike most other Herbig-Haro jets, this jet indicates a high-excitation origin, and its extended portion shows a seemingly intact structure, instead of normally a shocked working surface, which is attributed to photoablation.  相似文献

We review the basic shock properties and the origin and the geometry of Herbig-Haro (H-H) shock waves. We first discuss different aspects of “normal” H-H objects which are connected with working surfaces (including internal working surfaces) of jets from young stellar objects. The emphasis is on unsolved problems of the H-H shock waves and not on the problems of the jet. We study the line flux ratios of high excitation H-H objects (high velocity shocks) and low excitation HH objects (low velocity shocks) and carry out a comparison with theoretical predictions in both cases. We emphasize an unexplained deficit of higher ions (especially OIII and SIII, but also various other ions) in high excitation objects. This lets the line flux ratios of HH objects appear as if their shock velocities are almost never above 100 km s?1, while other shock diagnostics (position-velocity diagrams, integrated line profiles, distributions of fluxes along the axis of the bow shock, etc.) definitely indicate higher shock velocities. Some aspects of the spectrum interpretation of the very low velocity shocks (like HH7) are explained quite well by the theory. A basic unsolved problem is, however, the explanation of the CI lines whose flux is up to a factor 10 times stronger than predicted for any model. Obviously we are very far from correctly predicting the ionization of C in shock models. In the last chapter we discuss, as one example of a very unusual HH-object, HH255 (Burnham's nebula). Detailed line fluxes in the immediate environment of T Tauri (the source of HH255) have shown that HH255 has a shock wave spectrum and is definitely an HH object. In the very narrow region between 3″ and 4″ S of T Tauri we find a sharp peak of the velocity dispersion, the centroid velocity, and Ne. In the same region there is an almost discontinous increase in ionization. Between 4″ and 10″ S (corresponding to 600-1600 a.u.) of T Tauri (the source of HH255) the ionization remains high but the centroid velocity is zero (with respect to T Tauri) and the velocity dispersion is very small. This result is completely surprising for a shock wave which according to the flux ratios must have ~90 km s?1-1 shock velocity. Why should a cooling region of a shock have a centroid velocity of ~0 km s?1 over a large range of distance from the stellar source? At present the geometry of the HH255 is enigmatic.  相似文献

To investigate the physical properties of HII regions and some PNe about 4' in size, a DEFPOS Fabry-Perot spectrometer has been redesigned and set up at the (Antalya/Bakirlitepe, Turkey), The spectrometer has a 4' circular field of view and a velocity resolution of 27.27 km s- 1 (a spectral resolving power of 11000) over a 200 km s-1 spectral window near Hα. This work presents the details of the newly redesigned inphysical results of our new Hα observations selected from the Reynolds et al. (2005) and Fich et al. (1990) papers. The DEFPOS system has been fully tested and the first observations of HII regions and PNe in the Galaxy are used to illustrate the power of the instrument. We feel that our first Fabry-Perot observations can provide a powerful tool for the study of objects with small angular size. In the future, we are planning to prepare a catalog including some physical properties such as radial velocity, line width, and intensity of some PNe and HII regions close to the 4' field of view.  相似文献

We have obtained velocity-resolved spectra of the 12C II 157.8 microns 2P3/2-2P1/2 fine structure line in the M42 region of Orion. Observations at 0.8 km s-1 resolution with a laser heterodyne spectrometer show multiple velocity components in some locations, with typical linewidths of 3-5 km s-1. Spectra of theta 1C and BN-KL also show weak emission from the F = 2-1 hyperfine component of the equivalent 13C II line. From the observed 12C II/13C II line intensity ratios, we deduce that the 12C II emission is optically thick with tau approximately 5 at both positions. Excitation temperatures of 128 K and 90 K, together with column densities of approximately 1 x 10(19) cm-2 and approximately 4 x 10(18) cm-2, are derived for theta 1C and BN-KL, respectively.  相似文献

From an analysis of VLBI observations of H2CO and OH maser emission in the direction of the ultra-conpact HII region NGC 7538-IRS 1, the following model is proposed: The HII region is surrounded by a thick dusty shell which breaks open at the two poles and there is a bipolar outflow. Around it is a rotating gas/dust ring and matter falls from the ring onto the surface of the HII region. The whole system, HII region and the ring, moves with a sight line velocity of −61.0 km/s inside a large cloud which moves with a sight line velocity of −57 km/s. The H2CO and OH masers occur near the poles of the HII region and within 0.2 RHII of the surface. The positions of the H2O maser and other line sources are discussed in term of this model.  相似文献

The fine structure of the quasar 3C 345 in polarized emission at 7 mm and 2 cm has been investigated. The kinematics is shown to correspond to an anticentrifuge: the thermal plasma of the surrounding space accretes onto the disk, flows to the center, and is ejected in the form of a rotating bipolar outflow that carries away the excess angular momentum as it accumulates. The bipolar outflow consists of a high-velocity central jet surrounded by a low-velocity component. The low-velocity flows are the rotating hollow tubes ejected from the peripheral part of the disk with a diameter ~Ø1 = 2.2 pc and from the region Ø2 = 1 pc. The high-velocity jet with a diameter Ø3 = 0.2 pc is ejected from the central part of the disk, while the remnant falls onto the forming central body. The ejection velocity of the high-velocity flow is v ? 0.06c. At a distance up to ~1 pc, the jet accelerates to an apparent velocity v ~ 8c. Further out, uniform motion is observed within ~2 pc following which deceleration occurs. The jet structure corresponding to a conical diverging helix with an increasing pitch is determined by gasdynamic instability. The counterjet structure is a mirror reflection of the nearby part of the jet. The brightness temperature of the fragment of the high-velocity flow at the exit from the counterjet nozzle is T b ≈ (1012?1013) K. The disk inclined at an angle of 60° to the plane of the sky shadows the jet ejector region. Ring currents observed in the tangential directions as parallel chains of components are excited in the rotating flows. The magnetic fields of the rotating bipolar outflow and the disk are aligned and oriented along the rotation axis. The translational motions of the jet and counterjet are parallel and antiparallel to the magnetic field, which determines their acceleration or deceleration. The quasar core is surrounded by a thermal plasma. The sizes of the HII region reach ~30 pc. The electron density decreases with increasing distance from the center from N e ≈ 108 to ≈105 cm?3. The observed emission from the jet fragments at the exit from the nozzle is partially absorbed by the thermal plasma, is refracted with increasing distance—moves with an apparent superluminal velocity, and decelerates as it goes outside the HII region.  相似文献

The characteristics of the halo gas and its interaction with the galactic disk in spiral galaxies are poorly known; this is particularly true for the warm neutral gas associated with HVCs and galactic chimneys. The detection of absorption features such as the NaI D or the CaII (H,K)lines is instrumental to study its detailed physical properties but requires very long integration times. In this work very deep optical spectra of NGC 604, the brightest giant HII region among the nearby spirals, are presented. The detection of two absorption components at LSR velocities -255 km/s and −20 km/s respectively, is reported; the first component is associated with the HII region. The inferred line width after deconvolution is 155 km/s; this large width is produced by the blending of the multiple absorption components produced by the diverse sources of internal motion (expanding shells and general turbulence). The radial velocity of the CaII absorption is slightly larger than the measured in the HII emission lines suggesting a possible flow of gas into the halo above the young star cluster. The large ratio x = W λ (NaID_2)/W λ (CaIIK) = 0.7indicates the probable presence of shocks which release Ca from the dust grains into the gas phase. The lower velocity component most likely trace galactic gas. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We have obtained high-resolution spectra of the 153 micrometers J = 17-16 CO line in the BN-KL region of Orion using a laser heterodyne spectrometer. The line shows broad wings (30 km s-1 FWHM at BN) characteristic of the plateau emission as well as a narrower component probably associated with the quiescent gas in the molecular ridge. From an analysis of the plateau emission together with that observed in lower J CO transitions, we derive an excitation temperature of 180 +/- 50 K and minimum column density of 1 x 10(18) cm-2 for CO in this component, which constitutes 80% of the total integrated intensity of the J = 17-16 line near BN. The peak intensity of the narrower component observed at 0.8 km s-1 resolution increases relative to that of the plateau component toward theta 1C and away from BN, while the width decreases from 10 to 4 km s-1 (FWHM).

A star formation region connected with SNO 41 is investigated. The observations of this region were carried out in the 12CO (1-0) line and in the 1.2-mm (with SIMBA) with the 15-m SEST mm telescope (Cerro La Silla, Chile). A blue shifted outflow is revealed from the 12CO(1-0) observations, while a bipolar outflow is apparent from the 1.2-mm SIMBA image. In CO it seems that a very faint dust envelope around SNO 41 probably exists, which is expanding with a velocity of ∼10.5 km/s. The distance to SNO 41 is estimated as ∼1500 pc. There are outflows also present in 2MASS images. A spiral jet has a condensation (resembling a HH object) at the end. Another jet has a discontinuity and a bow-shock-like structure on it. In 2MASS images there are also spots resembling HH objects. In this region there is also a rather luminous point source (IRAS 08546-4254), which has IR colors typical for an YSO connected with a water maser. The detection of a strong CS (2-1) line emission toward IRAS 08546-4254, with the same velocity as the CO line, shows the existence of a high density core of molecular gas associated to this source. A methanol maser is also associated with that IRAS source. The existence of CS line emission and a methanol maser (at 6.669 Ghz) is an indication of the presence of a very young massive star. It is not excluded that this IRAS source is the center of outflows mentioned above, because this source coincides with the center of the 1.2-mm SIMBA image and also with the place of origin of the jet with bow-shock-like structure. Supersonic plasma jets are ubiquitous in astrophysics. Our study focus on the jets emanated from Herbig-Haro (HH) objects. They have velocities of a few hundred km/s and are extending over the distances more than a parsec. Interaction of the jets with surrounding matter produces two specific structures in the jet head: the bow shock and the Mach disk. The radiative cooling of these shocks affects strongly the jet dynamics. A tool to understand the physics of these jets is the laboratory experiment. A supersonic jet interaction with surrounding plasma was studied on the PALS laser facility. A collimated high-Z plasma jet with a velocity exceeding 400 km/s was generated and propagated over a few millimeters length. Here we report on study the effect of radiative cooling on the head jet structure with a 2D radiative hydrodynamic code. The simulation results demonstrated the scalability of the experimental observations to the HH jets.

Halo coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been to be significantly faster than normal CMEs, which is a long-standing puzzle. In order to solve the puzzle, we first investigate the observed properties of 31 limb CMEs that clearly display loopshaped frontal loops. The observational results show a strong tendency that slower CMEs are weaker in white-light intensity. Then, we perform a Monte Carlo simulation of 20000 artificial limb CMEs that have an average velocity of ~523km s -1. The Thomson scattering of thes...  相似文献

A spatially unresolved velocity feature, with an approaching radial velocity of  ≈100 km s−1  with respect to the systemic radial velocity, in a position–velocity array of [O  iii ] 5007-Å line profiles is identified as the kinematical counterpart of a jet from the proplyd LV 5 (158–323) in the core of the Orion nebula. The only candidate in Hubble Space Telescope ( HST ) imagery for this jet appears to be a displaced, ionized knot. Also an elongated jet projects from the proplyd GMR 15 (161–307). Its receding radial velocity difference appears at  ≈80 km s−1  in the same position–velocity array.
A 'standard' model for jets from young, low-mass stars invokes an accelerating, continuous flow outwards with an opening angle of a few degrees. Here an alternative explanation is suggested which may apply to some, if not all, of the proplyd jets. In this, a 'bullet' of dense material is ejected which ploughs through dense circumstellar ambient gas. The decelerating tail of material ablated from the surface of the bullet would be indistinguishable from a continuously emitted jet in current observations.  相似文献

The extra fine structure of the active region of H2O supermaser emission of Orion KL (angular resolution is 0.1 mas) is studied. A central body / accretion disk / bipolar outflow / bullets / envelope is discovered, that corresponds to the earliest stage of the small-mass star formation. The ejector – a compact bright source ≤0.05 AU, Tb ≈ 1017K. The bipolar outflow, vej ≈ 10km/s is a highly-collimated stream with a ration length/diameter~ 60, rotation period is ~ 0.5 yr, precession period ~ 10 yrs, precession angle ~ 33°. Precession forms a conical helix jet. The envelope amplified radio emission by about three orders of magnitude at velocity at v=7.65 km/s.  相似文献

We report on experiments in which magnetically driven radiatively cooled plasma jets were produced by a 1 MA, 250 ns current pulse on the MAGPIE pulsed power facility. The jets were driven by the pressure of a toroidal magnetic field in a “magnetic tower” jet configuration. This scenario is characterized by the formation of a magnetically collimated plasma jet on the axis of a magnetic “bubble”, confined by the ambient medium. The use of a radial metallic foil instead of the radial wire arrays employed in our previous work allows for the generation of episodic magnetic tower outflows which emerge periodically on timescales of ~30 ns. The subsequent magnetic bubbles propagate with velocities reaching ~300 km/s and interact with previous eruptions leading to the formation of shocks.  相似文献

A dual étalon Fabry‐Pérot spectrometer called DEFPOS has been used for observing physical properties of HII regions and planetary nebulae since May 2007 (Aksaker et al. 2009, 2011; Şahan et al. 2009; Şahan 2011). In this study, the Hα measurements of the HII region NGC 1499 (California Nebula) have been investigated with a 4′ circular field of view over a 200 km s–1 (4.4 Å) spectral window. These measurements provide information about the densities, line widths, and radial velocities of the surrounding NGC 1499 nebula. The intensities, the radial velocities and the line widths of the Hα emission line vary from 397.75 R to 1044.14 R, –4.88 km s–1 to –1.02 km s–1, and 36.72 km s–1 to 42.81 km s–1, respectively (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. SiS has been conclusively detected toward Orion-KL via its J = 6-5 and J = 5-4 rotational transitions at 91 and 109 GHz. Line profiles indicate that the species is present at an LSR velocity of 7.5 km s-1 with a half-width at zero power of 36 km s-1. Such characteristics associate SiS with the moderate velocity outflow (V approximately 18 km s-1) centered on IRc2 and observed in thermal SiO, the NH3 "plateau," and OH, H2O, and SiO masers. The column density estimated for SiS in this region is Ntot = 4 x 10(15) cm-2, corresponding to a fractional abundance of f approximately 4 x 10(-9). Such an abundance implies an SiO/SiS ratio of approximately 60 in the outflow material, remarkably close to the cosmic O/S ratio of approximately 40 and contrasting with the SiO/SiS value of > approximately 10(3) predicted by ion-molecule models. This difference is probably a result of the high temperatures and densities present in the outflow, which favor thermal equilibrium abundances similar to those observed in the circumstellar shells of late-type stars rather than "ion-molecule"-type concentrations. In addition to SiS, some twenty new unidentified lines near 91 and 109 GHz were detected toward KL, as well as transitions arising from HC5N, HC13CCN, HCC13CN, O13CS, and, possibly, CH3CH2OH, CH3CHO, and CH3OD.  相似文献

The fundamental OH rotational transition at 2514 GHz (119.2 micrometers) has been observed in the Orion IRc2 region at a spectral resolution of 0.6 km s-1. The emission is spatially compact (< 25" FWHM) and centered near IRc2. A comparison of the observed profile with spectra of other species known to exist in the region suggests that the entire blueshifted side of the OH profile has been "self-absorbed," leaving only a redshifted emission component. In addition, there is pronounced absorption near 5 km s-1 VLSR indicative of the "hot core" source. The presence of the 119 micrometers absorption provides a straightforward explanation for the high ratio of 163/119 micrometers integrated line intensities which was previously considered anomalous.  相似文献

We have studied the fine structure of the active H2O supermaser emission region in Orion KL with an angular resolution of 0.1 mas. We found central features suggestive of a bipolar outflow, bullets, and an envelope which correspond to the earliest stage of low-mass star formation. The ejector is a bright compact source ≤0.05 AU in size with a brightness temperature T b ?1017 K. The highly collimated bipolar outflow ~30 has a velocity v ej ?10 km s?1, a rotation period of ~0.5 yr, a precession period of ~10 yr, and a precession angle of ~33°. Precession gives rise to a jet in the shape of a conical helix. The envelope amplifies the radio emission from the components by about three orders of magnitude at a velocity v=7.65 km s?1.  相似文献
