The photometric calibration of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is a multi‐step process which involves data from three different telescopes: the 1.0‐m telescope at the US Naval Observatory (USNO), Flagstaff Station, Arizona (which was used to establish the SDSS standard star network); the SDSS 0.5‐m Photometric Telescope (PT) at the Apache Point Observatory (APO), NewMexico (which calculates nightly extinctions and calibrates secondary patch transfer fields); and the SDSS 2.5‐m telescope at APO (which obtains the imaging data for the SDSS proper). In this paper, we describe the Monitor Telescope Pipeline, MTPIPE, the software pipeline used in processing the data from the single‐CCD telescopes used in the photometric calibration of the SDSS (i.e., the USNO 1.0‐m and the PT). We also describe transformation equations that convert photometry on the USNO‐1.0m ugriz ′ system to photometry the SDSS 2.5m ugriz system and the results of various validation tests of the MTPIPE software. Further, we discuss the semi‐automated PT factory, which runs MTPIPE in the day‐to‐day standard SDSS operations at Fermilab. Finally, we discuss the use of MTPIPE in current SDSS‐related projects, including the Southern ugriz ′ Standard Star project, the ugriz ′ Open Star Clusters project, and the SDSS extension (SDSS‐II). We discuss a direct construction of solitonic solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell system and analyze the connection of these with vacuum to electrovac transforms of the usual Belinskii-Zakharov vacuum solutions in the static and Einstein-Rosen waves cases. It should be noted that the construction of Belinskii is the same as the one that appears in the Kaluza-Klein ansatz, although in his case there is no direct interpretation to the scalarg 55 fieldSupported by a CONICET fellowship.  相似文献

For an understanding of Galactic stellar populations in the SDSS filter system well defined stellar samples are needed. The nearby stars provide a complete stellar sample representative for the thin disc population. We compare the filter transformations of different authors applied to the main sequence stars from F to K dwarfs to SDSS filter system and discuss the properties of the main sequence. The location of the mean main sequence in colour‐magnitude diagrams is very sensitive to systematic differences in the filter transformation. A comparison with fiducial sequences of star clusters observed in g ′, r ′, and i ′ show good agreement. Theoretical isochrones from Padua and from Dartmouth have still some problems, especially in the (r i) colours. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We have performed a series ofN-body experiments including the effects of a massive dominant background which follows Schuster's density law in order to simulate clusters of galaxies in which a smoothly distributed dark component is present. The existence of this background is inferred from the weak luminosity segregation observed in clusters which, however, show several characteristics of well-relaxed systems. The comparison of the velocity dispersion profiles of three clusters of galaxies (Coma, Perseus, and Virgo) with those obtained in the numerical experiments allows us to place some constraints on both the distribution and amount of distributed dark material in these clusters. The profiles are rather insensitive to variations in the ratio of the background mass to the mass attached to galaxies (M b/Mg), but exhibit a strong dependence on their relative concentration. We conclude that highly concentrated background models are not consistent with observations. We find a maximum value for the ratio of the gravitational radius of the galaxies and the background (R g/Rb) (approximately 0.6) and using previous results (Navarroet al., 1986) we conclude that virial theorem masses underestimate the total mass (M b+M g) of the clusters. As a final result, we derive a minimum value for theM b/Mg ratio. All these conclusions could apply in general if Coma, Perseus, and Virgo constitute a fair sample of the rich clusters of galaxies in the Universe.  相似文献

Fast Fourier analysis of the detrended record of solar irradiance obtained by the Nimbus-7 cavity pyrheliometer shows a rich spectrum of significant frequencies between about 30 and 850 nHz (periods between 13 and 400 days). Wolff and Hickey (1987a, b), elaborating on a model developed by Wolff (1974a, b, 1976, 1983, 1984), suggest that many of these peaks arise due to interference of rigidly rotating global solar oscillations (r- and g-modes). Their model fit is quite good in the region above about 135 nHz, but less satisfactory below this threshold. We note that the FFT spectrum of d2 L/d2 t, the second derivative of angular momentum of the solar inertial motion, contains peaks matching the large peaks in the irradiance spectrum below 400 nHz with periods near 0.08, 0.24, 0.65, and about 1 yr. We discuss the origins of the peaks in the d2 L/d2t spectra and review some previous studies bearing on the question of a possible relationship of solar motion and solar activity. The future persistence of the observed spectral peaks of irradiance with periods near 0.24 and 0.65 yr will provide a key test for this hypothesis.  相似文献

We review the question of the empirical and theoretical instabilityregions in the HR diagram for evolved, compact stars. These include thethree families of pulsating white dwarfs (g-mode pulsators excitedthrough mechanisms associated with partial ionization and convection inthe stellar envelope), the pulsating subdwarf B stars (p-mode variablesexcited through a classic kappa mechanism associated with the radiativelevitation of iron in the stellar envelope), and the `Betsy stars',the brand new class of long-period, g-mode pulsators of the subdwarf Btype discovered recently.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper will be to evaluate numerically Jacobian and other functions which have been discussed in more detail in a previous paper of this series (Edalati, 1978b, Paper XXII), and also choose the most convenient moments to obtain a good determination for the unknown eclipse parametersa andc 0. More than 12 different pairs ofg-functions for real values ofm have been investigated numerically and diagrammatically. The behaviour ofg-functions depends but very little on different combination of the moments, and related diagrams are approximately the same asg 2 andg 4 (Kopal and Demircan, 1978, Paper XIV).The behaviour of the vanishing Jacobian, arising from different pairs ofg-functions for real values ofm1 has been shown diagrammatically in terms ofa andc 0. Accordingly, we obtain the optimum combination of the moments (i.e.,A 6,A 7,A 8 andA 9) ing-functionsg 7 andg 8. It has been noted that the behaviour of theg-functions which depend on the combinations of the higher order moments (i.e.,m5) have been ruled out, because the proportional error of the momentsA 2m increases with increasing values of realm. The automated method has been tested successfully on the light curve of RT Per (Mancusoet al., 1977; Edalati, 1978a). Finally, a comparison is given of the elements of RT Per arising from two different pairs ofg-functions, i.e.,g 2,g 4 (Edalati, 1978a) andg 7,g 8 for the light curves analysis.  相似文献

We parametrized the total structure of the Galaxy in cylindrical coordinates up to z ∼ 10 kpc by using radial and vertical exponentials, covering the thin and thick disc and the inner spheroid. However, we allowed the scale height and scale length to vary continuously with distance from the Galactic plane. The standard deviations for the differences between stellar space densities estimated by means of the newly defined scale heights and scale lengths and the observed space densities for three absolute magnitude intervals, 5 < M (g ′) ≤ 6, 6 < M (g ′) ≤ 7, and 7 < M (g ′) ≤ 8, of the fields SA 114, ELAIS, and # 0952+5245 are rather small. The uncertainties of the scale heights are also small, indicating that this parameter depends very sensitively on the distance from the Galactic plane, whereas those of the scale lengths are larger. Three wavelet functions: the Morlet wavelet, the Paul wavelet, and the DOG wavelet have been respectively performed on both the monthly Wolf sunspot numbers (Rz) from January 1749 to May 2004 and the monthly group sunspot numbers (Rg) from June 1795 to December 1995 to study the evolution of the Gleissberg and Schwabe periods of solar activity. The main results obtained are (1) the two most obvious periods in both the Rz and Rg are the Schwabe and Gleissberg periods. The Schwabe period oscillated during the second half of the eighteenth century and was steady from the 1850s onward. No obvious drifting trend of the Schwabe period exists. (2) The Gleissberg period obviously drifts to longer periods the whole consideration time, and the drifting speed of the Gleissberg period is larger for Rz than for Rg. (3) Although the Schwabe-period values for Rz and Rg are about 10.7 years, the value for Rz seems slightly larger than that for Rg. The Schwabe period of Rz is highly significant after the 1820s, and the Schwabe period of Rg is highly significant over almost the whole consideration time except for about 20 years around the 1800s. The evolution of the Schwabe period for both Rz and Rg in time is similar to each other. (4) The Gleissberg period in Rz and Rg is highly significant during the whole consideration time, but this result is unreliable at the two ends of each of the time series of the data. The evolution of the Gleissberg period in Rz is similar to that in Rg.  相似文献

Continuous wavelet transform and cross‐wavelet transform have been used to investigate the phase periodicity and synchrony of the monthly mean Wolf (Rz) and group (Rg) sunspot numbers during the period of June 1795 to December 1995. The Schwabe cycle is the only one common period in Rg and Rz, but it is not well‐defined in case of cycles 5–7 of Rg and in case of cycles 5 and 6 of Rz. In fact, the Schwabe period is slightly different in Rg and Rz before cycle 12, but from cycle 12 onwards it is almost the same for the two time series. Asynchrony of the two time series is more obviously seen in cycles 5 and 6 than in the following cycles, and usually more obviously seen around the maximum time of a cycle than during the rest of the cycle. Rg is found to fit Rz better in both amplitudes and peak epoch during the minimum time time of a solar cycle than during the maximum time of the cycle, which should be caused by their different definition, and around the maximum time of a cycle, Rg is usually less than Rz. Asynchrony of Rg and Rz should somewhat agree with different sunspot cycle characteristics exhibited by themselves (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We investigate spatial dislocation ordering of the solar structures associated with supergranulation and granulation scales. The supergranular and granular structures are automatically segmented from time-distance divergence maps and from broad-band images, respectively. The spatial dislocation ordering analysis is accomplished by applying the statistical method of Pair Correlation Function, g 2(r), to segmented features in the solar fields. We compare the computed g 2(r) functions obtained from both single and persistent, i.e., time-averaged, fields associated with supergranulation and granulation. We conclude that supergranulation and granulation patterns present a different topological order both in single and persistent fields. The analysis carried out on single fields suggests that the granulation behaves as an essentially random distribution of soft plasma features with a very broad distribution in size, while supergranulation behaves as a random distribution of close packed, coherent stiff features with a rather defined mean size.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model with or without viscosity in the ww′ plane, which is defined by the equation of state parameter and its time derivative with respect to the logarithm of the scale factor. We show that GCG model without viscosity approaches to a late time de Sitter attractor (w g =−1) and behaves like a “freezing” scalar field for the parameter α constrained by the latest observational data. However, introducing viscosity exerts an influence on the evolution of w and affects the location of the late time attractor (w g >−1) in viscous GCG model. We also find numerically such a transition from w′>0 to w′<0 as the universe expands in viscous GCG model different from GCG model without viscosity (w′<0) in the ww′ plane.  相似文献

As part of our study of the larger-scale remanent magnetic field of the Moon, we have examined the effects of cratering in an otherwise spherically symmetrical shell magnetized by a concentric dipolar magnetic fieldH o to an intensity of magnetizationc H o, wherec is a constant. In our initial model, we assume that the material excavated from the craters is distributed with random orientation and thus does not contribute to the remanent dipole momentM g . We further assume that the mare fill does not contribute significantly toM g . We choose the magnetizing dipole momentM o and the constantc such that the magnitude of the productcH o ≃ 3 × 10−4Г at the outer surface of the shell in the equatorial plane of the dipole. This value of the intensity of remanent magnetization was chosen to be within the range 10−7−10−3Г’; the intensities of thermo-remanent magnetization exhibited by Apollo samples. Finally, we use the locations and diameters of the 10 largest craters on the Moon and the depth-to-diameter ratios of Pike’s formulation to model approximately the excavation of the magnetized shell. The remanent dipole momentM g was calculated for each of three orthogonal orientations of the magnetizing dipoleM o. The three magnitudes ofM g fall in the range 4 × 1018−1 × 1019Г cm3 which is close to the upper limit of 1019Г cm3 estimated forM g from the field measurements obtained with the Apollo subsatellites. Further, the distribution of the craters is such as to produce a significant transverse component ofM g with acute angles between the spin axis andM g in the range 51°–77°.  相似文献

Using narrow-band H filtergrams, we develop a quantitative non-LTE approach to determine the physical conditions prevailing at the tops of (post)-flare loops observed against the solar disc. At temperatures 10000–15000 K, the tops of flare loops turn to emission at H line center when the gas pressure P g reaches 1 dyn cm–2 and should be clearly visible for P g 3 dyn cm–2, independently of the loop diameter. This situation corresponds to the electron density of the order 1012 cm–3. The contrast of flare-loops (in projection on the disc) at H line center is mainly the function of P g , while in the line wings (H ± 1 Å) the loop can be visible in absorption or emission only when rather strong microturbulence is present or for unrealistically high gas pressures. Finally, we briefly discuss our diagnostical results in frame of the latest (post)-flare loop model.  相似文献

We assume that typical interplanetary grains are fragile, aggregates of the Brownlee type, and discuss the physical and dynamical processes associated with their entry into the Jovian magnetosphere. Limiting ourselves to the equatorial plane of the planet, we show that grains traversing the outer edge of the co-rotating magnetodisc (r35R J ) are rapidly charged up to large negative potentials on both the day and the night sides. A parent grain of radiusR g 20 is electrostatically disrupted when it attains a potential of about –220 V. While the eventual potential achieved by the smallest fragments (R g 0.1 ) are controlled by the rapid field emission of electrons, those of the larger fragments (R g 1 ) are set by the plasma and photoemission currents. All the negatively charged fragments are strongly attracted towards the planet by the (radial) corotational electric field and some are stably trapped. We suggest that the sudden enhancement by about 2 orders of magnitude of the interplanetary dust flux measured by Pioneer 10, at about 30R J from Jupiter result from the combination of these two effects. The different brightness asymmetries between the leading and the trailing sides of the outer and inner Galilean satellites appear to be a natural consequence of the way the trajectories of these charged dust grains intersect these satellite surfaces. Finally, the similarity in the brightness asymmetries between the Jovian and Saturnian satellites, and our belief that they have a similar cause, leads us to the expectation that Saturn's magnetic momentM and spin , are parallel as in the case of Jupiter, with the limit of plasma co-rotation lying between the satellites Rhea and Iapetus.  相似文献

We present a new formula for absolute magnitude determination for late‐type dwarf stars as a function of (gr) and (ri) for Sloan photometry. The absolute magnitudes estimated by this approach are brighter than those estimated by colour‐magnitude diagrams, and they reduce the luminosity function rather close to the luminosity function of Hipparcos. We report on the iron Kα line properties of a sample of Seyfert galaxies observed with the XMM‐Newton EPIC pn instrument. Using a systematic and uniform analysis, we find that complexity at iron‐K is extremely common in the XMM‐Newton spectra. Once appropriate soft X‐ray absorption, narrow 6.4 keV emission and associated Compton reflection are accounted for, ∼75% of the sample show an improvement when a further component is introduced. The typical properties of the broad emission are both qualitatively and quantitatively consistent with previous results from ASCA. The complexity is in general very well described by relativistic accretion disk models. In most cases the characteristic emission radius is constrained to be within ∼50R g, where strong gravitational effects become important. We find in about 1/3 of the sample the accretion disk interpretation is strongly favoured over competing models. In a few objects no broad line is apparent. We find evidence for emission within 6R g in only two cases, both of which exhibit highly complex absorption. Evidence for black hole spin based on the X‐ray spectra therefore remains tentative. RIEMANN himself has considered his formulation of the differential geometry of curved spaces as a first step to a unified geometrical theory of “one ether of gravity, electricity and magnetism”. RIEMANN has pointed out that a fundamental point in such a theory of gravitation has to be the asymmetry of its sources: only positive masses exist. – According to RIEMANN this asymmetry of sources to be coupled with an asymmetry of gravitation field equation against the time-reversion t → - t. Therefore, the gravitation field equation is of the type of a continuity-equation of a velocity field vi˜gikθ k Φ. RIEMANN 's ether is incompressible in empty space-domains: θ k (g1/2vk) = o. But, in domains with a massdensity σ > o it is θg1/2t = −2 kcσ = − 2 kcg1/2σ0 (with a universal constant kc). The matter-density defines depressions of the ether. In a general-relativistic approach RIEMANN 's ansatz means that in empty space-time domains the world-geometry is the purely metrical “RIEMANN ian” geometry. However, in domains with a non-vanishing matter-tensor Tμv ≠ o the geometry becomes “non-RIEMANN ian” affine connecting and is of the type of WEYL 's geometry or of the “EINSTEIN -CARTAN theories of gravitation”. Especially, RIEMANN 's field equation for the empty space θ k ((g1/2gikθ k Φ) = o. is the EINSTEIN equation (-|gμv|)1/2 R00 = o with g00 = - Φ2c-4.  相似文献

We present the theoretical analysis of the Al I line formation in the spectra of late-type stars ignoring the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). The calculations were based on the 39-level aluminum atom model for one-dimensional hydrostatic stellar atmosphere models with the parameters: T eff from 4000 to 9000 K, log g = 0.0–4.5, and metallicity [A] = 0.0;–1.0;–2.0;–3.0;–4.0. The aluminum atom model and the method of calculations were tested by the study of line profiles in the solar spectrum. We refined the oscillator strengths and Van-der-Vaals broadening constants C 6 of the investigated transitions. We conclude that the Al I atom is in the overionization state: the 3p level is underpopulated in the line formation region. This leads to the line weakening, as compared with the LTE results. The overionization effect becomes more pronounced with increasing temperature and decreasing metallicity. We show that the use of various atomic data (ionization cross-sections) for the low levels of Al I does not change the behavior of non-LTE deviations, whereas the value of these deviations varies essentially. For nine selected Al I lines we calculated the grids of theoretical non-LTE corrections (ΔX NLTE = logɛ NLTE − log ɛ LTE) to the Al abundances determinedwith the LTE assumption. The non-LTE corrections are positive and significant for the stars with temperatures T eff > 6000 K. These corrections weakly depend on log g, and increase with declining stellar metallicity.  相似文献

We analyze the propagation features of synchrotron radiation of a charge moving with a gyrating helix trajectory (3-dimensional) in a magnetoplasma. We found that a new factor (1+ cot ) should be included into the relevant spectrum radiation formulae and the usual relativistic factor has to be modified as , ifv <v g , the radiative energy are more concentrated along the velocity of the moving charge; but ifv>v g, the direction of maximum energy cone deviates from the direction of the moving charge.  相似文献
