New observations of solar flare and active region X-ray spectra obtained with the Columbia University instrument on OSO-8 are presented and discussed. The high sensitivity of the graphite crystal panel has allowed both line and continuum spectra to be observed with moderate spectral resolution. Observations with higher spectral resolution have been made with a panel of pentaerythritol crystals. Twenty-nine lines between 1.5 and 7.0 Å have been resolved and identified, including several dielectronic recombination satellite lines to Si xiv and Si xiii lines which have been observed for the first time. It has been found that thermal continuum models specified by single values of temperature and emission measure have fitted the data adequately, there being good agreement with the values of these parameters derived from line intensity ratios.  相似文献

Additional observations of He ii (304 Å) and Si xi (303 Å) were obtained from a high resolution rocket spectrograph flown on 30 August, 1973 and 20 January, 1975. The profile of the He ii (304 Å) line is everywhere clearly non-gaussian across the solar disk, except in bright active areas. Near the limb, the profile is distinctly reversed. The profile of the Si xi (303 Å) line is essentially gaussian for all regions across the solar disk. Measurements of the He ii/Si xi intensity ratio indicate that the average value of this ratio across the disk depends markedly on solar activity, being about 101 for a moderate level of activity and 301 for a quiet Sun.  相似文献

The results of two rocket flights of grazing incidence monochromators designed to measure solar line intensities in the wavelength region between 30 and 128 Å are compared. One of these flights sampled a very quiet Sun, that of November 3, 1965, and has been reported previously. The other acquired data during a more active, but non-flaring, interval on August 8, 1967. Improvements in the data reduction techniques have led to a refinement in the former data, and these improvements together with instrumental changes provided increased resolution in the results from the latter flight. The changes in line intensities observed in these two experiments follow a pattern which is in general qualitative agreement with theoretical ionization equilibrium calculations for the solar corona. An analysis of these and other observations of the CVI L line suggests that this line is particularly sensitive to local solar activity.  相似文献

The paper reports the results of the analysis of the data on polar faculae for three solar cycles (1960–1986) at the Kislovodsk Station of the Pulkovo Observatory and on polar bright points in Ca ii K line for two solar cycles (1940–1957) at the Kodaikanal Station of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. We have noticed that the monthly numbers of polar faculae and polar bright points in Ca ii K line and monthly sunspot areas in each hemisphere of the following solar cycle have a correlation with each other. A new cycle of polar faculae and polar bright points in the Ca ii K line begins after the polar magnetic field reversal. We find that the smaller the period between the ending of the polar field reversal and the beginning of a new sunspot cycle is, the more intense is the cycle itself. The intensity of the forthcoming solar cycle (cycle 22) and the periods of strong fluctuations in activity expected in this cycle are also discussed.  相似文献

The time sequence of line profiles of Fe xiv emission obtained at the 1965 solar eclipse is examined for temporal variations of intensity and profile. Although no variations are found in some regions examined, two regions with intensity and profile line width variations are found. Spectral line profiles of Si ii and Si iii are presented which were observed both at solar center and near the quiet solar limb with the Naval Research Laboratory EUV spectrograph of ATM/SKYLAB. Absolute intensities and line profiles are derived from the photographic data. A brief discussion is given of their center-to-limb variations and of the optical thickness of the chromosphere in these lines. Nonthermal broadening velocities are found for the optically thin lines from their full width at half maximum intensity (FWHM).Also at High Altitude Observatory for part of this work.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

A distribution map of the large-scale chromospheric Doppler velocities on the solar disk for 5 June 2002 is presented. The map was obtained using a 2D-spectroscopy technique within the He?i 10830 Å line. The spatial resolution of the map is about 30 arc sec. The map demonstrates a downflow in the chromosphere over active regions, especially significant around the spots and inside the plages. Positive Doppler velocities correspond to strong magnetic field areas, regardless of the field sign. Three major chromospheric outflow zones are observed: an equatorial and two polar ones. Each area of substantial negative Doppler velocities matches a zone of weak intensity of inner corona observed within the Fe?ix-x 171 Å line by the SOHO spacecraft. A Doppler velocity histogram and the dependence of the Doppler velocities on the cosine of the heliocentric angle for the solar disk are calculated. The total mass outflow from the upper chromosphere is estimated as 2×1013 g s?1. Four percent of this amount is sufficient to produce the fast solar wind.

The fine structure in the flow field in the transition region above and surrounding a sunspot is determined fromCIV 1548 line profiles, observed with the High Resolution Telescope and Spectrograph (HRTS) during the Spacelab 2 mission. The observed line profiles show one, two, or three distinct velocity components within the resolution element of 1 × 1. Supersonic flows occur in small regions where the line profile has two or three components. The line component that shows supersonic speed often is weaker than the subsonic line component, which may explain why some observers have been unable to detect the supersonic flow component. The broadening of individual line components shows non-thermal velocities close to 20 km s–1. This suggests that turbulence is less important than usually considered.The presence of multiple flows, which also occurs in quiet solar regions, suggests that the transition region above sunspots has a sub-arc-second fine structure, perhaps consisting of thin fibrils. The Evershed flow in the transition region appears to have a correspondingly complex character, possibly consisting of sub- and supersonic siphon flows along the individual fibrils. Time changes in the flow field over 5 min may correspond to characteristic times of individual fine structures. Possible explanations of the net downward directed mass flux are presented.  相似文献

We consider the NLTE formation of the resonance Ba II line λ 455.4 nm in the solar spectrum for three one-dimensional and one three-dimensional hydrodynamic models of the quiet solar atmosphere. The sensitivity of the line to atomic parameters, microturbulent and macroturbulent velocities, as well as to oscillator strength and barium abundance uncertainties was examined. The wings of the barium line are shown to be most sensitive to the van der Waals broadening constant. Another important parameter is the barium abundance. Our NLTE estimate of the solar barium abundance (A Ba = 2.16) derived with allowance made for the nonuniform solar atmosphere structure is in good agreement with earlier results. The influence of granular convective motions on the line profile shape was studied, and the profiles formed in granules and in intergranular lanes are shown to be asymmetric and differently shaped. We demonstrate that the theoretical profiles match well the observed ones when the NLTE effects and the granular structure are taken into account.  相似文献

Electron impact excitation rates for Fexxi, calculated with theR-matrix code, are used to determine theoretical electron density sensitive emission line ratios involving transitions in the 121–146 wavelength range. The observed ratios for a solar flare, obtained with a grazing spectrometer on board the OSO-5 satellite, imply electron densities which are consistent, with discrepancies that do not exceed 0.3 dex. In addition, the derived values ofN e are similar to those estimated for the high temperature regions of other solar flares. This provides experimental support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the line ratio calculations.  相似文献

Theoretical line ratios for the A1viii ion have been investigated using an atomic model including the first fifteen energy levels, and taking account of various physical processes. The line emissivities as a function of electron density have been computed. Density-dependent theoretical line ratios are presented and their diagnostic applications in the solar atmosphere are discussed with the help of theoretical line intensities computed using an atmospheric model for the quiet Sun.  相似文献

A theoretical study of the influence of propagating acoustic pulses in the solar chromosphere upon the line profiles of the Ca ii resonance and infrared triplet lines has been made. The major objective has been to explain the observed asymmetries seen in the cores of the H and K lines and to predict the temporal behavior of the infrared lines caused by passing acoustic or shock pulses. The velocities in the pulses, calculated from weak shock theory, have been included consistently in the non-LTE calculations. The results of the calculations show that these lines are very sensitive to perturbations in the background atmosphere caused by the pulses. Only minor changes in the line shapes result from including the velocities consistently in the line source function calculations. The qualitative changes in the line profiles vary markedly with the strength of the shock pulses. The observed differences in the K line profiles seen on the quiet Sun can be explained in terms of a spectrum of pulses with different wave-lengths and initial amplitudes in the photosphere.  相似文献

During the total solar eclipse, 1965 May 30, a 25 cm aperturef/8.0 telescope and Fabry-Perot interferometer were operated aboard the USAF-AEC aircraft. High resolution spectra of the Fexiv emission line, 530.3 nm, were obtained. Deconvolved intensity vs wavelength profiles of the second order fringe overlay a helmet structure on the NM limb at out to 1.37R . The profiles yield coronal temperatures, absolute intensities and Doppler velocities in regions of apparently open magnetic field structure and within the closed field lines of the helmet. Together with white light intensities the observations are interpreted to provide temperatures and turbulent velocities in and around this coronal structure. Comparison is made with a model by Billings and Roberts. We suggest a model with radial flow (solar wind) velocities of 60 km s–1 satisfies the observations in the open field line region.Work performed under the auspices of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, and portions of the analysis at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colo.  相似文献

Spectroheliogram movies of the solar velocity field have been made in the 4924 line of Feii with a time resolution of 20 sec/frame and a spatial resolution in the range 1–2 sec of arc. A conventional doppler movie has been used to generate two additional movies which show the slowly-varying and oscillatory components of the velocity field separately. The small phase-lag between velocities observed at different chromospheric levels is interpreted as being due to acoustic waves reflected by the very hot atmospheric layers of the chromosphere-corona transition zone. We consider first an isothermal slab, then a realistic solar atmospheric model and calculate weighting functions for velocities in Ca ii lines. It is shown that taking into account these functions and integrating over horizontal wave numbers leads to a good agreement with previous observations (Mein, 1977) in the case of 8498 and 8542 Ca ii lines. For the K line, the less good agreement shows that magnetoacoustic waves become important in the upper chromospheric layers.  相似文献

Spectroscopic diagnostics for the Nev and Mgv solar ions have been investigated. The theoretical forbidden line ratios from these ions are presented for estimating the Ne/Mg variation in different solar structures. Calculations for density and temperature line diagnostics of these ions are given for the several spectral line ratios and their applications are discussed with the help of available solar observations in space. Future observations from the CDS and the SUMER experiments aboard the SOHO satellite are also discussed.  相似文献

Based on the digital spectra taken with double monochromators of high spectral resolution, we have constructed the profile of the Fe I λ532.4185-nm line in the spectrum of the solar disk center. Basic spectrophotometric characteristics of the line profile have been determined with a high accuracy. The fine structure of the line profile is studied in detail. Structure of horizontal convective currents in the solar atmosphere has been investigated using profiles of the λ ≈ 532.42 nm neutral iron line which were observed at the solar limb with high spatial resolution. The asymmetry of the observed line was shown to arise when approaching the solar limb. The spatial and time velocity variations were simulated using the λ-meter technique. Acoustic waves were removed using the k-ω filters. The convection currents on various spatial scales were distinguished, namely, those connected with granulation, mesogranulation, and supergranulation. The spatial and time distribution of the convection velocities in the photosphere and in the low chromosphere has been analyzed. The horizontal currents were shown to exist on granulation, mesogranulation, and supergranulation scales as low as h ≈ 250 km, and the granulation and mesogranulation horizontal velocities increase with height. In the photospheric layers, the supergranulation vertical-velocity field appears almost invariable, while the supergranulation horizontal-velocity field can vary with height. The horizontal velocity distribution within large convection currents is found to be asymmetric on granulation, mesogranulation, and supergranulation scales.  相似文献

Theoretical electron-density-sensitive emission line ratios in B-like AIix are presented forR =I(385.01 )/I(392.42 ). A comparison of these with high spectral resolution solar flare data, obtained with the S082A slitless spectrograph on boardSkylab, reveals agreement between theory and observation for those spectra that were observed during the later stages of the flares. These results provide experimental support for the accuracy of the line-ratio calculations, and also resolves discrepancies found previously when the theoretical results were compared with solar observations from the S-055 instrument on boardSkylab. However, the agreement between theory and observation for a spectrum obtained during the early stages of a flare is very poor, which probably indicates that the 392.42 line is blended with a transition arising from a species formed at a very high electron temperature.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to report on some intensity measurements of the Fe xiii lines at 10 747 Å and 10 798 Å made during the total eclipse of 12 November, 1966. Infrared spectra were taken of the solar corona at a dispersion of 90 Å per mm, using an RCA image converter and spectrograph aboard the NASA CV 990 aircraft off the coast of southern Brazil. The spectra have been reduced to equivalent width in terms of the coronal continuum and values derived for different points in the corona.The observed equivalent widths of the lines lie in the range 10 to 30 Å for the 10 747 line and 5 to 12 Å for the 10 798 line. The ratio of these equivalent widths is found to vary from 2.3 in the inner corona to 6 at a point 1.36 solar radii from the center of the Sun.The above results are discussed in terms of the excitation mechanisms involved in producing the lines. In particular, the results are compared with the recent theoretical calculations of Chevalier and Lambert, who are the first to include the effects of proton collisions in the excitation of the 3p 2 3 P levels of Fexiii. Our observations are consistent with an electron density of 4 × 108 in the inner corona; a value which compares favorably with those derived by other observers from the strength of the K continuum. These are, to our knowledge, the first eclipse observations of the infrared Fe xiii lines which indicate that proton collisions are important in the excitation of the coronal lines. The coronal abundance of iron is estimated from the equivalent width of the 10 747 line, and in common with other observers we find an overabundance as compared to the photospheric abundance by a factor of 10.  相似文献
