Eskola's concept of metamorphic facies, now 50 years old, is reappraised in the light of current knowledge and usage among petrologists. Facies should be defined solely in terms of observable geologic criteria. LikeEskola, we continue to view each facies as a set of mineral assemblages that approximate equilibrium within a definite range of temperature; but this is inference and must be excluded from the definition of facies. Mutual boundaries between facies are transitional. Division into subfacies has proved unacceptable to many writers, and has led to confusion in the physical interpretation of metamorphic parageneses. We propose henceforth not to recognize subfacies. Eleven facies are recognized in this paper, and their terminology has been adapted as nearly as possible to current general usage:
  1. A.
    Low-pressure facies commonly but not exclusively of contact metamorphism. In order of increasing temperature:
    1. (1)
      Albite-epidote-hornfels.  相似文献

This paper presents the point-defect thermodynamics for fayalite and olivine solid solutions (Fe x Mg1?x )2SiO4. By means of thermogravimetry, the metal-to-oxygen ratio of these silicates has been determined as a function of oxygen potential, compositionx and temperature. Experiments were performed in the range of 1,000° C≦T≦1,280° C and 0.2≦x≦1.0. It is found that V Me , Fe Me · and the associate {Fe′ Si Fe Me · } are the majority defects. With this knowledge it is possible to calculate the nonstoichiometry at given temperature as a function of \(p_{O_2 } \) and \(a_{SiO_2 } \) . The cation vacancy concentration shows a \(p_{O_2 }^{1/5} \) -dependence (forx≧0.2) and increases at givenT and \(p_{O_2 } \) almost exponentially with compositionx. In the composition range studied here, the silicates show an oxygen excess, and FeO is more soluble in the olivine than SiO2.  相似文献

Ca-poor pyroxene ceases to crystallise towards the end of fractionation in tholeiitic intrusions and is usually replaced by Fe-rich olivine. Using the data of Nicholls et al. (1971), the \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_2 }\) at which olivine and pyroxene can coexist has been calculated at different temperatures and pressures. From these calculations it is clear that the Fe/Mg ratio of the last Ca-poor pyroxene to crystallise from a melt is increased by raising the temperature or pressure of crystallisation. The Ca-poor pyroxene-Fe-rich olivine relationship is also dependent on the \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_2 }\) of the melt. In magmas which crystallise Fe-rich olivine before quartz, inicreasing their \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_2 }\) will raise the Fe/Mg ratio of the last Ca-poor pyroxene to crystallise. If the \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_2 }\) of the magma is so high that SiO2 saturation is reached before the appearance of cumulus Fe-rich olivine, any further increase in the \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_2 }\) of the melt will not influence the stability field of Ca-poor pyroxene. The replacement of Ca-poor pyroxene by Fe-rich olivine requires the magma to reach a high level of a FeO late in its fractionation. If a magma fractionates with an FeO depletion trend, Ca-poor pyroxene is replaced by Ca-rich pyroxene. The reaction is initiated by the appearance of cumulus K-feldspar which results in a marked reduction in the amount of anorthite crystallising from the magma. This increases the a CaO of the melt so that Ca-poor pyroxene is replaced by Ca-rich pyroxene.  相似文献

A new taxon, ?Crassodontidanus gen. nov. of Hexanchiformes (cow sharks) from the Jurassic of Germany is described. It is characterized by peculiar teeth combining apomorphic (serrated mesial cutting edge of the main cusp) and plesiomorphic features (deep root with convex mesial and distal margins in labial and lingual views; protruding lingual root bulge). This character combination readily distinguishes members of the new taxon from all other known extant (Heptranchias, Hexanchus, Notorynchus) and extinct (?Gladioserratus, ?Notidanodon, ?Notidanoides, ?Pachyhexanchus, ?Paraheptranchias, ?Weltonia) hexanchiforms. Currently, two species, ?C. serratus (type species; Late Jurassic, Late Kimmeridgian of Nusplingen, South Germany) and ?C. wiedenrothi (Early Jurassic, Early Pliensbachian of Gretenberg (Hanover), North Germany) are assigned to this taxon. ?Crassodontidanus gen. nov. is member of ?Crassonotidae fam. nov. and sister to ?Notidanoides Maisey, 1986 and ?Pachyhexanchus Cappetta, 1990. We consider ?Notidanus amalthei Oppel, 1854 from the Pliensbachian of South Germany, ?Notidanus insignis Seguenza, 1887 from the Oxfordian of Sicily (Italy) and ?Notidanus wagneri Agassiz, 1843 from the Early Tithonian of Solnhofen (South Germany) nomina dubia and nomina nuda, respectively. The family ?Crassonotidae comprises plesiomorphic hexanchiforms ranging from the Sinemurian (Early Jurassic) to the Hauterivian (Early Cretaceous).  相似文献

The equilibrium position of the reaction $$\begin{gathered} 1.5 KAlSi_3 O_8 + HCl = 0.5 KAl_3 Si_3 O_{10} (OH)_2 \hfill \\ + 3SiO_2 + KCl \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ has been located at 1 and 2 kb pressure and temperatures between 600° and 670° C using the Ag-AgCl buffer. These data can be combined with information on the dissociation of KC1, HC1 and H2O to determine species abundances in supercritical aqueous fluids in equilibrium with muscovite — K-feldspar — quartz assemblages. Chloride species become increasingly associated with increasingT, increasing total molality, (m tot or \(m_{Cl_{tot} } \) ), and decreasing \(P_{H_2 O} \) . Master variable diagrams indicate that the pH of the solutions may vary from near neutral to quite acid. Published data on the paragonite-albite-quartz reaction and exchange reactions involving feldspars and micas were included to calculate speciation in mica-feldspar-NaCl-KCl-HCl-H2O fluids at 2kb pressure and temperatures between 300° and 600° C. The data are not accurate enough to distinguish different feldspar structural states. Concentration gradients were calculated for individual species between K-feldspar+quartz, muscovite+quartz and andalusite+quartz assemblages at 500° C, 2 kb. Assuming that the proton diffuses most rapidly and that there are no [H+] gradients, the molality of the solution must vary 30-fold, with feldspar+quartz at the more concentrated side. The data on mica-feldspar-chloride equilibria are used to interpret the spacial distribution of micas, feldspar and quartz in microfolds. This distribution can be accounted for by pressure solution, due to the fact that non-hydrostatic pressure affects congruently dissolving minerals, auch as quartz, differently from minerals which dissolve incongruently, such as micas and feldspars. We postulate, that during folding at constant \(P_{H_2 O} \) ,T and \(m_{Cl - } \) , gradients in KC1 and SiO2 are created by stress differences between hinge and limb of a microfold, such that both migrate to the hinge area where quartz precipitates and muscovite is converted to K-felspar, thus accounting for the observed mineral distribution.  相似文献

A new determination of the equilibrium reaction: $$\begin{gathered} 2{\text{ Mg}}_{\text{2}} [{\text{SiO}}_{\text{4}} ] + 3{\text{ H}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{1 Mg}}_{\text{3}} [({\text{OH)}}_{\text{4}} |{\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{5}} ] + 1{\text{ Mg(OH)}}_{\text{2}} \hfill \\ \hfill \\ {\text{ forsterite serpentine brucite}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ yielded equilibrium temperatures which lie (at identical H2O-pressures) about 60° C lower than all previously published data (Bowen and Tuttle, 1949; Yoder, 1952; Kitahara et al., 1966; Kitahara and Kennedy, 1967). It has been shown that the above authors have determined not the stable equilibrium curve but instead a metastable “synthesis boundary”. The actual (stable) equilibrium curve is located at 0,5 kb and 350° C 2,0 kb and 380° C 3,5 kb and 400° C 5,0 kb and 420° C 6,5 kb and 430° C.  相似文献

The method of Koiwa and Ishioka (Philos Mag A 47:927–938, 1983) is used, with slight modification, to evaluate the correlation factor for vacancy-mediated diffusion of impurity atoms on the sublattice of dodecahedral sites in garnet, as a function of the relevant vacancy-jump frequencies. The required values of the lattice Green’s function were obtained from multiple Monte Carlo simulations in lattices of progressively larger size, extrapolated to an infinite lattice using a model that linearizes the dependence of the functional value on lattice size. As Online Resources, codes are provided that permit evaluation of the correlation factor for any chosen set of vacancy-jump frequencies, for implementation in either Mathematica ® or Matlab ®.  相似文献

Subsolidus phase relations on the join CaMgSi2O6-CaFe3+ AlSiO6-CaTiAl2O6 were studied by the ordinary quenching method at \(f_{O_2 } = 10^{ - 11} \) atm and 1,100°C. Crystalline phases encountered are clinopyroxeness (ss:solid solution) (Cpxss), melilite (Mel), perovskite (Pv), spinelss (Spss), magnetitess (Mtss) and anorthite (An). There is no Cpxss single phase field, and the following assemblages were found; Cpxss+Mel, Cpxss+Mel+Spss, Cpxss+Mel+Pv, Cpxss+Mel+Spss+Pv, Cpxss+Pv+Spss+An, Spss+Pv+Mel+An+Cpxss, Mel+Mtss+An+Spss+Cpxss+liquid and Mel+Mtss+An+Spss+Cpxss+Pv. Mössbauer spectral study revealed that Cpxss contains both Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the octahedral site, and it was confirmed that the CaFe3+ AlSiO6 content in the Cpxss at low \(f_{O_2 } \) is considerably less than that in the Cpxss crystallized in air, whereas the CaFe2+Si2O6 component increases. The maximum solubility of CaTlAl2O6 component in the Cpxss at low \(f_{O_2 } \) is higher than that in air. The decrease of CaFe3+ AlSiO6 in the Cpxss at low \(f_{O_2 } \) may cause increase of CaTial2O6 in the Cpxss.  相似文献

This article presents the first palaeomagnetic results from 13 independent cooling units in the Chiapanecan Volcanic Arc (ChVA). Six sites were directly dated by Ar–Ar or K–Ar methods: their dates range from 2.14 to 0.23 Ma. We isolated the characteristic palaeodirections for all 13 lavas. Eleven non-transitional directions yield a mean direction with inclination, I?=?30.7°, declination, D?=?4.1°, and precision parameters k?=?63 and α95 = 5.8°. The corresponding mean palaeopole position is Plat = 83.3°, Plong = 203.8°, K?=?227, A 95 = 5.1°. The mean inclination is in good agreement with the expected value for the last 5 million years, as derived from the synthetic North American polar wander path [Besse and Courtillot 2002 Besse, J. and Courtillot, V. 2002. Apparent and true polar wander and the geometry of the magnetic field in the last 200 million years. B11, p. 2300], but a measured rotation of the palaeodeclination of about 8° with respect to the expected direction suggests the possibility of a clockwise rotation of the studied ChVA units. We have estimated the characteristics of palaeosecular variation through study of the scatter of virtual geomagnetic poles, obtaining a palaeosecular variation parameter S b = 14.5° with upper limit S U = 19.6° and lower limit S L = 11.7°, in reasonable agreement with the fit of model G [McFadden et al., 1988 Quidelleur, X., Carlut, J., Gillot, P.Y. and Soler, V. 2002. A number of experimental CO2 solubility data for silicate and aluminosilicate melts at a variety of P- T conditions are consistent with solution of CO2 in the melt by polymer condensation reactions such as SiO 4(m 4? +CO2(v)+Si n O 3n+1(m) (2n+1) ?Si n+1O 3n+4(m) (2n+4)? +CO 3(m )2? . For various metalsilicate systems the relative solubility of CO2 should depend markedly on the relative Gibbs free change of reaction. Experimental solubility data for the systems Li2O-SiO2, Na2O-SiO2, K2O-SiO2, CaO-SiO2, MgO-SiO2 and other aluminosilicate melts are in complete accord with predictions based on Gibbs Free energies of model polycondesation reactions. A rigorous thermodynamic treatment of published P- T-wt.% CO2 solubility data for a number of mineral and natural melts suggests that for the reaction CO2(m) ? CO2(v)
  1. CO2-melt mixing may be considered ideal (i.e., { \(a_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }^m = X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }^m \) );
  2. \(\bar V_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }^m \) , the partial molal volume of CO2 in the melt, is approximately equal to 30 cm3 mole?1 and independent of P and T;
  3. Δ C p 0 is approximately equal to zero in the T range 1,400° to 1,650 °C and
  4. enthalpies and entropies of the dissolution reaction depend on the ratio of network modifiers to network builders in the melt. Analytic expressions which relate the CO2 content of a melt to P, T, and \(f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} } \) for andesite, tholeiite and olivine melilite melts of the form
$$\ln X_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} }^m = \ln f_{{\text{CO}}_{\text{2}} } - \frac{A}{T} - B - \frac{C}{T}(P - 1)$$ have been determined. Regression parameters are (A, B, C): andesite (3.419, 11.164, 0.408), tholeiite (14.040, 5.440,0.393), melilite (9.226, 7.860, 0.352). The solubility equations are believed to be accurate in the range 3<P<30 kbar and 1,100°<T<1,650 °C. A series of CO2 isopleth diagrams for a wide range of T and P are drawn for andesitic, tholeiitic and alkalic melts.  相似文献

Theoretical and practical considerations are combined to place limits on the iron content of an FePt alloy that is in equilibrium with silicate melt, olivine and a gas phase of known \(f_{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}} }\) . Equilibrium constants are calculated for the reactions: (1) $$2{\text{Fe}}^{\text{o}} + {\text{SiO}}_{\text{2}} + {\text{O}}_{\text{2}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{Fe}}_{\text{2}} {\text{SiO}}_{\text{4}}$$ (2) $${\text{Fe}}^{\text{o}} + \frac{1}{2}{\text{O}}_{\text{2}} \rightleftharpoons {\text{FeO}}$$ . These equilibria may be used to choose an appropriate iron activity for the FePt alloy of an experiment. The temperature dependence of the equilibrium constants is calculated from experimental data. The Gibbs free energy of reaction (1) obtained using thermochemical data is in close agreement with ΔGrxn calculated from the experimental data. Reaction (1) has the advantage that it is independent of the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio of the melt, but is limited to applications where olivine is a crystallizing phase and requires a formulation for \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_{\text{2}} }^{{\text{liq}}}\) . Reaction (2) uses an empirical approximation for the FeO/Fe2O3 ratio of the liquid, and is independent of olivine saturation. However, it requires a formulation for a FeO liq . Either equilibrium constant may be used to calculate the appropriate FePt alloy in equilibrium with a silicate melt. If experiments are conducted at an \(f_{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}} }\) parallel that of a buffer assemblage, a small range of FePt alloys may be used over a large temperature interval. For example, an alloy containing from 6 % to 9 % Fe by weight is in equilibrium with olivine-saturated tholeiites and komatiites at the quartzfayalite-magnetite buffer over the temperature interval 1,400° C to 1,100° C. Lunar basalt liquids in equilibrium with olivine at 1/2 log unit below the iron-wüstite buffer require an FePt alloy that contains 30–50 wt. % iron over a similar temperature interval.  相似文献

The enthalpy of formation of andradite (Ca3Fe2Si3O12) has been estimated as-5,769.700 (±5) kJ/mol from a consideration of the calorimetric data on entropy (316.4 J/mol K) and of the experimental phaseequilibrium data on the reactions: 1 $$\begin{gathered} 9/2 CaFeSi_2 O_6 + O_2 = 3/2 Ca_3 Fe_2 Si_3 O_{12} + 1/2 Fe_3 O_4 + 9/2 SiO_2 (a) \hfill \\ Hedenbergite andradite magnetite quartz \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ 1 $$\begin{gathered} 4 CaFeSi_2 O_6 + 2 CaSiO_3 + O_2 = 2 Ca_3 Fe_2 Si_3 O_{12} + 4 SiO_2 (b) \hfill \\ Hedenbergite wollastonite andradite quartz \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ 1 $$\begin{gathered} 18 CaSiO_3 + 4 Fe_3 O_4 + O_2 = 6Ca_3 Fe_2 Si_3 O_{12} (c) \hfill \\ Wollastonite magnetite andradite \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ 1 $$\begin{gathered} Ca_3 Fe_2 Si_3 O_{12} = 3 CaSiO_3 + Fe_2 O_3 . The oxygen fugacity of formation of this kind of skarn ranges between carbon dioxide/graphite and hematite/magnetite buffers. It increases from the inside zones to the outside zones, and appears to decrease with the ore-types in the order Cu, Pb?Zn, Fe, Mo, W(Sn) ore deposits.  相似文献

The Si, Al LII, III and OKα emission and quantum yield spectra were obtained for 24 silicates. It was found that in minerals of a homogeneous anion composition the Si LII, III line has double-humped structure, and when in addition to SiO 4 4? ions of other composition (BeO 4 6? , AlO 4 5? etc.) are present it has triple-humped structure. The process of crystal-glass transition was studied by X-ray spectroscopy. The result is that in spite of the original form of the Si LII, III line of the mineral this line changes its structure in glass and exhibits a typical double-humped structure. The CNDO/2 approach was used to calculate the electronic structure of basic structural groups of silicates from SiO 4 4? to Si5O 16 12? by replacing one or two of the Si atoms by Be, B, Al and P. A qualitative interpretation of the X-ray spectra is presented.  相似文献

Most of the Al3+ entering the pyroxenes does so by substituting for tetrahedral Si4+. This creates a charge imbalance that requires the simultaneous entry of Cr3+, Ti4+, Fe3+ or Al3+ into octahedral sites. Cr3+, because of its high crystal field stabilisation energy (CFSE), is the most important of these elements to enter the early-formed pyrosenes but it is replaced by Ti4+ later in fractionation when the Cr3+ content of the melt becomes depleted. The dependence of Cr3+ and Ti4+ on charge balance controls their partition between coexisting pyroxenes and olivines. Ca-rich pyroxene which contains more Al3+ than Ca-poor pyroxene also has more Ti4+ and Cr3+ whereas olivine, which contains negligible Al3+, has low Cr3+ and Ti4+. The Al3+ content of pyroxenes is influenced by changes in P, T, \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_{\text{2}} }\) and \(a_{{\text{Al}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{3}} }\) of the magma and by the nature of the ion providing charge balance in the octahedral site. Of these \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_{\text{2}} }\) is dominant and variations in the Al3+ content of the Jimberlana pyroxenes correspond closely with the expected changes in the \(a_{{\text{SiO}}_{\text{2}} }\) of the melt. The substitution of divalent ions, such as Mn2+ and Ni2+, in the pyroxene lattice is by replacement of Fe2+ or Mg2+ in the octahedral M 3 and M 2 sites and is therefore independent of charge balance. If there are no size restrictions, the principal factor to be considered is the CFSE the ion receives in octahedral co-ordination. Ni2+, which receives a high CFSE, partitions strongly between the early-formed pyroxenes and olivines and therefore becomes depleted in the magma with fractionation. Conversely Mn2+, which receives zero CFSE, concentrates in the magma with fractionation and becomes a more important substitute in the later-formed pyroxenes. Its geochemical behaviour is controlled by its size. The narrow miscibility gap of the Jimberlana pyroxenes and the high En content of the Ca-poor pyroxenes at the bronzite pigeonite changeover suggest that these pyroxenes crystallised at a higher temperature than pyroxenes of comparable composition from other intrusions.  相似文献

In the lattice energy expression of forsterite, based on a Born-Mayer (electrostatic+repulsive+dispersive) potential, the oxygen charge z o, the hardness parameter ρ and the repulsive radii r Mg and r Si appear as unknown parameters. These were determined by calculating the first and second partial derivatives of the energy with respect to the cell edges, and equalizing them to quantities related to the crystal elastic constants; the overdetermined system of equations was solved numerically, minimizing the root-mean-square deviation. To test the results obtained, the SiO 4 4? ion was assumed to move in the unit-cell, and the least-energy configuration was sought and compared with the experimental one. By combining the two methods, the optimum set of parameters was: z o=?1.34, ρ=0.27 Å, r Mg=0.72 Å, r Si=0.64 Å. The values ?8565.12 and ?8927.28 kJ mol?1 were obtained, respectively, for the lattice energy E Land for its ionic component E L 0 ,which accounts for interactions between Mg2+ and SiO 4 4? ions only. The charge distribution calculated on the SiO 4 4? ion was discussed and compared with other results. Using appropriate thermochemical cycles, the formation enthalpy and the binding energy of SiO 4 4? were estimated to be: ΔH f(SiO 4 4? )=2117.6 and E(SiO 4 4? )=708.6 kJ mol?1, respectively.  相似文献

Single crystals of two novel calcium oxotellurate(IV) nitrates were grown under hydrothermal conditions and were structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. Ca $_5$ Te $_4\text {O}_{12}$ (NO $_3$ ) $_2$ (H $_2$ O) $_2$ [ $Cc$ , $Z=4$ , $a=25.258(3)$ Å, $b=5.7289(7)$ Å, $c=17.0066(19)$ Å, $\beta =124.377(2)^{\circ}$ , $R[F^2 > 2\sigma (F^2)]=0.043$ , 4083 $F^2$ data, 281 parameters] can be described as a non-classic order/disorder (OD) structure, which fulfills the basic principle of OD theory, viz. local equivalence of polytypes, but does not strictly follow the vicinity condition (VC) of OD theory. The structure is made up from an alternating stacking of non-polar layers composed of isolated [TeO $_3$ ] units and Ca $^{2+}$ ions and polar layers containing NO $_3^-$ ions and water molecules. The electron lone-pairs of the [TeO $_3$ ] units protrude into the free space of the anion/water layers. The crystal under investigation was a non-classic OD-twin of domains of a maximum degree of order (MDO). At the twin plane a fragment of the second MDO polytype is located. The main building blocks of Ca $_6$ Te $_5\text {O}_{15}$ (NO $_3$ ) $_2$ [ $P2_1/c$ , $Z=4$ , $a=15.494(2)$ Å, $b=5.6145(7)$ Å, $c=39.338(4)$ Å, $\beta =142.480(5)^{\circ}$ , $R[F^2 > 2\sigma (F^2)]=0.043$ , 3026 $F^2$ data, 307 parameters] are isolated [TeO $_3$ ] units and Ca $^{2+}$ ions which are connected to a three-dimensional framework perforated by channels in which the N atoms of the nitrate anions are located and the electron lone-pairs of the [TeO $_3$ ] units protrude. The structure can topologically be derived from the structure of Ca $_5$ Te $_4\text {O}_{12}$ (NO $_3$ ) $_2$ (H $_2$ O) $_2$ by removing the water molecules and connecting the CaTeO $_3$ layers with additional [TeO $_3$ ] units and Ca $^{2+}$ ions.  相似文献

In the system Na2O-CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 (NCAS), the equilibrium compositions of pyroxene coexisting with grossular and corundum were experimentally determined at 40 different P-T conditions (1,100–1,400° C and 20.5–38 kbar). Mixing properties of the Ca-Tschermak — Jadeite pyroxene inferred from the data are (J, K): $$\begin{gathered} G_{Px}^{xs} = X_{{\text{CaTs}}} X_{{\text{Jd}}} [14,810 - 7.15T - 5,070(X_{{\text{CaTs}}} - X_{{\text{Jd}}} ) \hfill \\ {\text{ }} - 3,350(X_{{\text{CaTs}}} - X_{{\text{Jd}}} )^2 ] \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The excess entropy is consistent with a complete disorder of cations in the M2 and the T site. Compositions of coexisting pyroxene and plagioclase were obtained in 11 experiments at 1,190–1,300° C/25 kbar. The data were used to infer an entropy difference between low and high anorthite at 1,200° C, corresponding to the enthalpy difference of 9.6 kJ/mol associated with the C \(\bar 1\) =I \(\bar 1\) transition in anorthite as given by Carpenter and McConnell (1984). The resulting entropy difference of 5.0 J/ mol · K places the transition at 1,647° C. Plagioclase is modeled as ideal solutions, C \(\bar 1\) and I \(\bar 1\) , with a non-first order transition between them approximated by an empirical expression (J, bar, K): $$\Delta G_T = \Delta G_{1,473} \left[ {1 - 3X_{Ab} \tfrac{{T^4 - 1,473^4 }}{{\left( {1,920 - 0.004P} \right)^4 - 1,473^4 }}} \right],$$ where $$\Delta G_{1,473} = 9,600 - 5.0T - 0.02P$$ The derived mixing properties of the pyroxene and plagioclase solutions, combined with the thermodynamic properties of other phases, were used to calculate phase relations in the NCAS system. Equilibria involving pyroxene+plagioclase +grossular+corundum and pyroxene+plagioclase +grossular+kyani te are suitable for thermobarometry. Albite is the most stable plagioclase.  相似文献

New information is presented regarding the structural geology of the Huronian rocks (Middle Precambrian) of the Sudbury-McGregor Bay district of Ontario, Canada. Using standard photogrammetric techniques a base map of the area was prepared from photographs taken at a height of about 11,000 m. Extrapolation from the work ofYoung &Church (1966) together with the evidence deduced from the aerial photographs facilitated the construction of a lithological map at the scale of 1∶187,500 (Fig. 2). From this map large scale type 2 interference pattern is recognised (seeRamsay, 1967) and a tentative structural history is suggested for the area.  相似文献

Liquidus and subliquidus phase relations of a leucite-lamproite (wolgidite) from the West Kimberley area, Australia have been studied experimentally under the volatile conditions of 3.22 wt.% H2O ( \(X_{CO_2 }\) =0.11) and 13.0 wt.% H2O ( \(X_{CO_2 }\) =0.03) between 10 to 40 kbar. Under these conditions, liquids are vapour undersaturated. In experiments with 13.0 wt.% H2O, olivine is the liquidus phase up to 24 kbar and orthopyroxene above 24 kbar. Phlogopite and rutile occur close to the liquidus above 16 kbar. Crystallization temperatures of clinopyroxenes are 50–120° C below the liquidus. Based on these results, wolgidite magma is unlikely to be a partial melt of a garnet- or spinel-lherzolite mantle but could be derived from phlogopite+rutile±olivine±or-thopyroxene assemblages occurring as metasomatized mantle.  相似文献

Oxygen Fugacity measurements were carried out on chromites from the Eastern Bushveld Complex (Maandagshoek) and are compared with former measurements on chromites from the western Bushveld Complex (Zwartkop Chrome Mine). These results together with those of Hill and Roeder (1974) yield the following conditions of formation for the massive chromitite layers: Western Bushveld Complex (Zwartkop Chrome Mine) $$\begin{gathered} Layer{\text{ }}T(^\circ C) p_{O_2 } (atm) \hfill \\ LG3{\text{ 1160}} - {\text{1234 10}}^{ - {\text{5}}} - 10^{ - 7.6} \hfill \\ LG4{\text{ 1175}} - {\text{1200 10}}^{ - 6.35} - 10^{ - 7.20} \hfill \\ LG6{\text{ 1162}} - {\text{1207 10}}^{ - 6.20} - 10^{ - 7.50} \hfill \\ \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ Eastern Bushveld Complex (Farm Maandagshoek) $$\begin{gathered} {\text{LXI 1115}} - {\text{1150 10}}^{ - 7.80} - 10^{ - 8.80} \hfill \\ ( = {\text{Steelpoort Seam)}} \hfill \\ {\text{LX 1125 10}}^{ - 8.25} \hfill \\ {\text{V 1120 10}}^{ - 8.55} \hfill \\ {\text{LII 1120 10}}^{ - 8.0} - 10^{ - 8.60} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The comparison of the data shows, that the chronitite layers within each particular sequence were formed under approximately identicalp o 2- andT-conditions. The chromites from the western Bushveld Complex, however, were formed at higher temperatures and higher oxygen fugacities than the chromites from the eastern Bushveld Complex. Fromp o 2-T-curves of disseminated chromites and the temperatures derived above, the following conditions of formation for the host rocks were obtained: Western Bushveld Complex $$T = 1200^\circ {\text{C; }}p_{{\text{o}}_{\text{2}} } = 10^{ - 7.25} - 10^{ - 7.50} $$ Eastern Bushveld Complex $$T = 1125^\circ {\text{C; }}p_{{\text{o}}_{\text{2}} } = 10^{ - 8.50} - 10^{ - 9.25} $$ Consequently, the host rocks in the Zwartkop-Chrome-Mine, were formed under higher temperatures and higher oxygen fugacities than the host rocks at Maandagshoek. The rock sequence in the Zwartkop-Chrome-Mine therefore originated in an earlier stage of the differentiation of the Bushveld magma. Comparison of the chromites from the host rocks with the chromites from massive layers supports Ulmer's (1969) thesis that an increase of the oxygen fugacity is responsible for the formation of massive chromitite layers. The values in this investigation show that increases of only about 0.5–1.0 log units are necessary to enhance chromitite layer formation.  相似文献
