Biotite + plagioclase + quartz (BPQ) is a common assemblagein gneisses, metasediments and metamorphosed granitic to granodioriticintrusions. Melting experiments on an assemblage consistingof 24 vol. % quartz, 25 vol. % biotite (XMg = 0·38–0·40),42 vol. % plagioclase (An26–29), 9 vol. % alkali feldsparand minor apatite, titanite and epidote were conducted at 10,15 and 20 kbar between 800 and 900°C under fluid-absentconditions and with small amounts (2 and 4 wt %) of water addedto the system. At 10 kbar when 4 wt % of water was added tothe system the biotite melting reaction occurred below 800°Cand produced garnet + amphibole + melt. At 15 kbar the meltingreaction produced garnet + amphibole + melt with 2 wt % addedwater. At 20 kbar the amphibole occurred only at high temperature(900°C) and with 4 wt % added water. In this last case themelting reaction produced amphibole + clinopyroxene ±garnet + melt. Under fluid-absent conditions the melting reactionproduced garnet + plagioclase II + melt and left behind a plagioclaseI ± quartz residuum, with an increase in the modal amountof garnet with increasing pressure. The results show that itis not possible to generate hornblende in such compositionswithout the addition of at least 2–4 wt % H2O. This reflectsthe fact that conditions of low aH2O may prevent hornblendefrom being produced with peraluminous granitic liquids fromthe melting of biotite gneiss. Thus growth of hornblende inanatectic BPQ gneisses is an indication of addition of externalH2O-rich fluids during the partial melting event. Detailed mineralogical and petrochemical studies show that the Laoniugou gneiss of the Jiapigou gold mine is composed mainly of plagioclase gneiss and irregular to lentiform plagioclase amphibolite melanic enclaves. The major element contents show an obvious bimodal and trondhjemitic series evolutional trend. This situation is significantly different from that encountered in bimodal calc-alkalic volcanic rocks in the rift-type Archaean greenstone belt. The contents of Rb,Sr and Ba are 7-21 ppm,153-363ppm and 201-1451 ppm respectively ,close to those of common Archaean grey gneisses. All the samples of plagioclase gneisses show positive Eu anomalies (even up to 4.6).The protoliths of the plagioclase gneiss are high-Al2O3 trondhjemitic series rocks, belonging to typical TTG of Archaean high-grade metamorphic terrain .The gneiss is quite similar to the B-type Amitsoq gneiss of W.Greenland .The authors believe that the plagioclase amphibolite enclaves are the relics of ancient oceanic crust while the plagioclase gneiss is the TTG ancient intrusive rock resulting from partial melting of the oceanic crust.  相似文献

Calcic schists in the andalusite-type regional metamorphic terrainin the Panamint Mountains, California, contain the low-varianceassemblage quartz+epidote+muscovite+biotite+calcic amphibole+chlorite+plagioclase+spheneat low grade. Near the sillimanite isograd, chlorite in thisassemblage is replaced by garnet. The low variance in many calcicschists allows the determination of the nature of the reactionthat resulted in the coexistence of garnet+hornblende. A graphicalanalysis of the mineral assemblages shows that the reactioncan not be of the form biotite+epidote+chlorite+plagioclase+quartz=garnet+hornblende+muscovite+sphene+H2Obecause garnet+chlorite never coexisted during metamorphismand the chlorite-bearing and garnet-bearing phase volumes donot overlap. The compositions of the minerals show that withincreasing grade amphibole changed from actinolite to pargasitichornblende with no apparent miscibility gap, the partitioningof Fe and Mg between chlorite and hornblende changed from KD(Mg/Fe, chl&amp) < 1 to KD > 1, the partitioning betweenbiotite and hornblende changed from KD (Mg/Fe, bio/amp) <1 in chlorite-zone samples to KD > 1 in garnet + hornblende-zonesamples, and the transition to the garnet-bearing assemblageoccurred when the composition of plagioclase was between An55and An80. Both the graphical analysis and an analytical analysisof the compositions of the minerals using simplified componentsderived from the natural mineral compositions indicate thatat the garnet+hornblende isograd the composition of hornblendewas colinear with that of plagioclase and biotite, as projectedfrom quartz, epidote, muscovite, and H2O. During progressivemetamorphism, chlorite+biotite+epidote+quartz continuously brokedown to form hornblende+muscovite+sphene until the degeneracywas reached. At that point, tie lines from hornblende couldextend to garnet without allowing garnet to coexist with chlorite. Thus, the garnet+hornblende isograd was established throughcontinuous reactions within the chlorite-grade assemblage ratherthan through a discontinuous reaction. In this type of isograd, the low-grade diagnostic assemblage occurs only in Mg-rich rocks;whereas the high-grade assemblage occurs only in Fe-rich rocks. This relation accounts for the restricted occurrence of garnet+hornblendeassemblage in low-pressure terrains. In Barrovian terrains, garnet+chlorite commonly occurs, and the first appearana ofgarnet+hornblende can simply result from the continuous shiftof the garnet+chlorite tie line to Mg-rich compositions.  相似文献

Both high- and medium-pressure granulites have been found asenclaves and boudins in tonalitic–trondhjemitic–granodioriticgneisses in the Hengshan Complex. Petrological evidence fromthese rocks indicates four distinct metamorphic assemblages. The early prograde assemblage (M1) is preserved only in thehigh-pressure granulites and represented by quartz and rutileinclusions within the cores of garnet porphyroblasts, and omphacitepseudomorphs that are indicated by clinopyroxene + sodic plagioclasesymplectic intergrowths. The peak assemblage (M2) consists ofclinopyroxene + garnet + sodic plagioclase + quartz ±hornblende in the high-pressure granulites and orthopyroxene+ clinopyroxene + garnet + plagioclase + quartz in the medium-pressuregranulites. Peak metamorphism was followed by near-isothermaldecompression (M3), which resulted in the development of orthopyroxene+ clinopyroxene + plagioclase symplectites and coronas surroundingembayed garnet grains, and decompression-cooling (M4), representedby hornblende + plagioclase symplectites on garnet. The THERMOCALCprogram yielded peak (M2) P–T conditions of 13·4–15·5kbar and 770–840°C for the high-pressure granulitesand 9–11 kbar and 820–870°C for the medium-pressuregranulites, based on the core compositions of garnet, matrixpyroxene and plagioclase. The P–T conditions of pyroxene+ plagioclase symplectite and corona (M3) were estimated at  相似文献

The Vestfold Block, like other Archaean cratons in East Antarctica and elsewhere, consists predominantly of felsic orthogneiss (Mossel and Crooked Lake gneisses), with subordinate mafic granulite (Tryne metavolcanics) and paragneiss (Chelnok supracrustals). Two major periods of continental crust formation are represented. The Mossel gneiss (metamorphosed about 3,000 Ma ago) is mainly of tonalitic composition, and is similar to much of the roughly coeval Napier Complex in Enderby Land. The Crooked Lake gneiss was emplaced under high-grade conditions about 2,450 Ma ago and comprises a high proportion of more potassic rocks (monzodioritic and monzonitic suites), as well as tonalite and minor gabbro and diorite. Both Mossel and Crooked Lake gneisses are depleted in Y and have moderate to high Sr, Ce/Y, and Ti/Y, consistent with melting of a mafic source (?subducted hydrated oceanic crust) leaving major residual hornblende (± garnet). Most Crooked Lake gneisses are more enriched in incompatible elements (P, Sr, La, Ce, and particularly Rb, Ba, and K) than Mossel gneisses, suggesting derivation from a more enriched mafic source. The Vestfold Block contains few orthogneisses derived by melting of older felsic crustal rocks, in marked contrast to the Archaean Napier Complex and, in particular, southern Prince Charles Mountains. Both Mossel and Crooked Lake tonalites are strongly depleted in Rb, K, Th, and U, and have very low Rb/Sr and high K/Rb; more potassic orthogneisses are depleted in Th, U, and, to lesser extents, Rb. Tryne metavolcanics are depleted in Th and Rb, but appear to have been enriched in K (and probably Na), possibly during early low-grade alteration.  相似文献

We present results of dehydration melting experiments [3–15kbar, 810–950C f(O2) QFM (quartz-fayalite-magetite)and Ni-NiO] on two Fe-rich mixtures of biotite (37%), plagioclaseAn38 (27%), quartz (34%) and ilmenite (2%), which differ onlyin their biotite compositions (mg-number 23 and 0.4). Dehydrationmelting of metagreywackes of constant modal composition generatesa wide range of melt fractions, melt compositions and residualassemblages, through the combined effects of pressure, Fe/Mgratio and f(O2). Crystallization of garnet is the chief controlon melting behavior, and is limited by two reactions: (1) thebreakdown of garnet + quartz to orthopyroxene + plagioclaseat low P, and (2) the oxidation of garnet to magnetite + anorthite+ quartz (enstatite), which is sensitive to both f(O2) andP. Because of these reactions, melting of Mg-rich metagreywackesis rather insensitive to f(O2) but strongly sensitive to P;the converse is true for Fe-rich metagreywackes. Garnet crystallizationrequires that plagioclase break down incongruently, liberatingalbite. This increases the Na2O content of the melts and enhancesmelt production. Thus, melting of metagreywacke in a reducingdeep-crustal environment (with garnet stable) would producemore, and more sodic, melt than would garnet-absent meltingof the same source material in a relatively oxidizing, shallow-crustalenvironment. The Acadian-age Waldoboro Pluton Complex (WPC), mid-coastalMaine, consists of seven granitoid units surrounded by migmatitic, peraluminous gneisses and schists (predominantly Bucksport orSebascodegan Formation). The complex (area >340 km2) cross-cutsthe westward-vergent St. George thrust fault, which may markthe boundary between the Avalon and Gander composite terranes.Field and petrologic data indicate in situ formation of theperaluminous, syntectonic granitoids: contacts with Bucksportparagneisses are transitional and concordant; abundant country-rockenclaves show evidence for melting; restitic garnet, biotite, and plagioclase in the granitoids are identical in compositionto garnet, biotite, and plagioclase in the country rock. Chemicalvariations among the main granitoid phases (gneissic granite, granite, and leucogranite) reflect varying degrees of melt-restiteunmixing. Major and trace elements define mixing trends betweenrefractory Bucksport lithologies and leucogranites which approximatemelt compositions. Petrographic and whole-rock chemical dataare consistent with restitic plagioclase, garnet, biotite, tourmaline, zircon, apatite, sphene, and an accessory phase such as monazite.Quantitative major-oxide mass-balance models indicate that gneissicgranite represents a mixture of 55% melt–45% restite whereasgranite represents a mixture of 76% melt–24% restite.Melt-restite proportions calculated from trace element dataagree with those calculated from major oxide data for the gneissicgranite, but are different (85% melt–15% restite) fromthose calculated from major oxide data for the granite. Thisis attributed to inhomogeneous distribution of minor phasesand the effects of metasomatism. High K2O, Rb, Ba, Cs, Li, B,K/Rb, K/Ba, Rb/Sr, and Th/U along the eastern mylonitic marginand elsewhere within the WPC reflect post-solidification metasomaticprocesses. Intrusion of mafic magmas during uplift after crustal thickeningappears to have caused high-temperature metamorphism and anatexisof Bucksport country rocks at relatively low pressure (0.4 GPa).Dehydration melting of muscovite to produce magmas saturatedor nearly saturated with H2O explains the formation of migmatitesin the vicinity of the WPC. Formation of granites by 50–60%fluid-absent melting of Bucksport source rocks containing 20%biotite requires that fusion occurred at T860C and consumedall of the biotite in the source rock. Phase equilibrium dataand estimated temperatures of formation provide evidence thatthe granitoids formed at T<860C, whereas petrographic dataindicate that not all biotite in the source rock was consumedduring anatexis. Therefore, the WPC granitoids could have formedby fluid-absent melting if the source rocks contained >20%biotite (the maximum amount observed). However, it is also possiblethat influx of aqueous fluid before or during anatexis allowedproduction of relatively large volumes of melt at T<860C.Available data do not allow these possibilities to be rigorouslytested. The WPC granitoids have many characteristics of S-type granitesand preserve a chemical and mineralogical record of their sourcerocks, indicating that granites can image their sources evenin tectonically complex regions.  相似文献

In the Ranmal migmatite complex, non-anatectic foliated graniteprotoliths can be traced to polyphase migmatites. Structural–microtexturalrelations and thermobarometry indicate that syn-deformationalsegregation–crystallization of in situ stromatic and diatexiteleucosomes occurred at 800°C and 8 kbar. The protolith, the neosome, and the mesosome comprise quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, hornblende, biotite, sphene, apatite, zircon, and ilmenite, but the modal mineralogy differs widely. The protolith compositionis straddled by element abundances in the leucosome and themesosome. The leucosomes are characterized by lower CaO, FeO+MgO,mg-number, TiO2 , P2O5 , Rb, Zr and total rare earth elements(REE), and higher SiO2 , K2O, Ba and Sr than the protolith andthe mesosome, whereas Na2O and Al2O3 abundances are similar. The protolith and the mesosome have negative Eu anomalies, butprotolith-normalized abundances of REE-depleted leucosomes showpositive Eu anomalies. The congruent melting reaction for leucosomeproduction is inferred to be 0·325 quartz+0·288K-feldspar+0·32 plagioclase+0·05 biotite+0·014hornblende+0·001 apatite+0·001 zircon+0·002sphene=melt. Based on the reaction, large ion lithophile element,REE and Zr abundances in model melts computed using dynamicmelting approached the measured element abundances in leucosomesfor >0·5 mass fraction of unsegregated melts withinthe mesosome. Disequilibrium-accommodated dynamic melting andequilibrium crystallization of melts led to uniform plagioclasecomposition in migmatites and REE depletion in leucosome. The hornblende garbenschist horizon of the Lower Schieferhulleseries (LSH) in the SW Tauern Window, Austria, contains theassemblage hornblende + kyanite + staurolite + garnet + biotite+ epidote + plagioclase + ankerite + quartz + rutile + ilmenite, with either chlorite or paragonite present in all samples. Theseassemblages are divariant in the system SiO2-Al2O3-TiO2-Fe2O3-MgO-FeO-MnO-CaO-Na2O-K2O-H2O-CO2.Garnet-biotite geothermometry yields temperatures of final equilibrationof {small tilde}550 °C, and garnet-plagioclase-kyanite-quartzgeobarometry indicates pressures of 6–8 kb for the matrixassemblage and 9–10 kb for plagioclase inclusions in garnet.Quantitative modelling of zoned garnet, hornblende, and plagioclaseindicates growth and equilibration along a decompression pathfrom {small tilde}530 °C, 10 kb to {small tilde}550 °C,7 kb. Fluid inclusion data constrain the uplift path to havepassed through a point at {small tilde} 375 °C, 1.5 kb. These data permit the construction of a relatively completeP-T loop for metamorphism associated with the Alpine orogeniccycle in the LSH of the SW Tauern Window. The maximum pressureconditions ({small tilde}10 kb at 530 °C) recorded alongthis loop are considerably higher than previous estimates of5–7 kb for the region. Simple overthrust models developedfor the Tauern Window cannot account for pressures of this magnitude;a more likely scenario involves partial subduction of the rocksto a depth of {small tilde}35 km, followed by prolonged heatingin response to decay of the subduction isotherms. Initial upliftappears to have been rapid and occurred along a nearly isothermalpath. Significant cooling did not occur until the rocks werewithin {small tilde}5 km of the surface. Detailed tectonic modelsfor the evolution of the Tauern Window must be able to accountfor the quantitative features of the P-T loop.  相似文献

The unusual association of cordierite and cummingtonite (? gedrite+ chlorite + biotite + ilmenite + plagioclase + quartz) definesa metamorphic facies within aluminous, low-Ca amphibolites fromthe Proterozoic rocks of the Gold Brick District, east of Gunnison,Colorado. More Fe-rich bulk chemistries in the same facies arecharacterized by assemblages consisting of cordierite+-gedrite+ garnet + chlorite + biotite + ilmenite + plagioclase + quartz, whereas more Mg-rich compositions are characterized by cordierite+ anthophyllite + chlorite + biotite + ilmenite ? plagioclase+ quartz. The assemblage gedrite 4- cummingtonite + chlorite+ biotite + ilmenite + plagioclase + quartz was also observed.Coexisting cordierite+ anthophyllite + cummingtonite was notobserved in any rocks, apparently because this assemblage isstable over only a very narrow range of bulk compositions. Metamorphosedpelitic rocks are more iron rich than the assemblage cordierite+ gedrite + garnet + chlorite + biotite + ilmenite + plagioclase+ quartz and consist of garnet ?cordierite ?staurolite ? chlorite? andalusite + biotite + ilmenite + plagioclase + quartz? microclineor muscovite. Mineral rim compositions from cordierite-bearing amphibolitesand metapelites determined by electron microprobe analysis showsystematic Fe/Mg partitioning and define assemblages that occupynon-overlapping regions of the compositional system SiO2-TiO2-Al2O3-MnO-FeO-MgO-CaO-Na2O-K2O-H2Oas determined by algebraic and statistical methods developedby Braun & Stout (1975) and Fisher (1989). Graphical methods(projections) produced spurious overlaps not confirmed by themore rigorous algebraic tests. The spurious overlaps were generatedbecause standard projective analysis was not able simultaneouslyto account for the important effects of the components Na2O,CaO, and MnO on the AFM topologies. The results of algebraicand statistical analysis are consistent with an equilibriumorigin at constant values of temperature and pressure. The cordierite-cummingtonite facies encompasses the relativelylow-pressure and moderate-temperature conditions associatedwith the stability field of andalusite. Garnet-biotite geothermo-metry,and garnet, aluminosilicate, silica, plagioclase (GASP) geobarometrysuggest that temperatures and pressures were nearly constantacross the study area at 550( ? 70) ?C and 3 kb, respectively, near the peak of metamorphism. Other geothermometers and geobarometers, and independent pressure and temperature estimates, are compatiblewith garnet-biotite thermometry and GASP geo-barometry. Gradientsin fO2 or H2O are not required to explain the compatibilityof these assemblages at constant T and P. Cordierite + cummingtonite-bearingrocks can apparently be derived from anthophyllite +garnet-bearingrocks by increasing temperature or decreasing pressure.  相似文献

The melting relations of two proposed crustal source compositionsfor rhyolitic magmas of the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ), New Zealand, have been studied in a piston-cylinder apparatus at 10 kb totalpressure and a range of water activities generated by H2O-CO2vapour. Starting materials were glasses of intermediate composition(65 wt.% Si02 representing a metaluminous ‘I-type’dacite and a peraluminous ‘S-type’ greywacke. Crystallizationexperiments were carried out over the temperature range 675to 975?C, with aH2O values of approximately 1?0, 0?75, 0?5,and 0?25. Talc-pyrex furnace assemblies imposed oxygen fugacitiesclose to quartz-fayalite-magnetite buffer conditions. Assemblages in both compositions remain saturated with quartzand plagioclase through 675–700?C at high aH2O, 725–750?Cat aH2O0?5, and 800–875?C at aH2O0?25, corresponding to<60–70% melting. Concentrations of refractory mineralcomponents (Fe, Mg, Mn, P, Ti) in liquids increase throughoutthis melting interval with increasing temperature and decreasingaH2O. Biotite and hornblende are the only mafic phases presentnear the solidus in the dacite, compared with biotite, garnet, gedritic orthoamphibole, and tschermakitic clinoamphibole inthe greywacke. Near-solidus melting reactions are of the type:biotite + quartz + plagioclase = amphibole ? garnet, potentiallyreleasing H2O for dehydration melting in the greywacke, butproducing larger amounts of hornblende and releasing littleH2O in the dacite. At aH2O0?25 and temperatures 825–850?C,amphibole dehydration produces anhydrous mineral phases typicalof granulite fades assemblages (clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, plagioclase?quartz in the dacite; garnet, orthopyroxene, plagioclase?quartzin the greywacke) coexisting with melt proportions as low as40%. Hornblendce-saturated liquids in the dacite are weaklyperaluminous (0?3–1?6 wt.% normative C—within therange of peraluminous TVZ rhyolites), whereas, at aH2O0?25 andtemperatures 925?C, metaluminous partial melt compositions (upto 1?8 wt.% normative Di) coexist with plagioclase, orthopyroxene, and clinopyroxene. At all water activities, partial melts ofthe greywacke are uniformly more peraluminous (1?5–2?6wt.% normative C), reflecting their saturation in the componentsof more aluminous mafic minerals, particularly garnet and Al-richorthopyroxene. A metaluminous source for the predominantly Di-normativeTVZ rhyolites is therefore indicated. With decreasing aH2O the stability fields of plagioclase andquartz expand, whereas that of biotite contracts. These changesare reflected in the proportions of normative salic componentsin partial melts of both the dacite and greywacke. At high aH2O,partial melts are rich in An and Ab and poor in Or (trondhjemitic-tonalitic);with decreasing aH2O they become notably poorer in An and richerin Or (granodioritic-granitic). These systematic variationsin salic components observed in experimental metaluminous tostrongly peraluminous melts demonstrate that a wide varietyof granitoid magmas may be produced from similar source rocksdepending upon P-T-aH2O conditions attending partial melting. Some peraluminous granitoids, notably trondhjemitic leucosomesin migmatites, and sodic granodiorites and granites emplacedat deep crustal levels, have bulk compositions similar to nearsolidus melt compositions in both the dacite and greywacke, indicating possible derivation by anatexis without the involvementof a significant restite component.  相似文献

Experimental Constraints on the Origin of the 1991 Pinatubo Dacite   总被引:12,自引:2,他引:12
Crystallization (dacite) and interaction (dacite–peridotite)experiments have been performed on the 1991 Pinatubo dacite(Luzon Island, Philippines) to constrain its petrogenesis. Inthe dacite–H2O system at 960 MPa, magnetite and eitherclinopyroxene (low H2O) or amphibole (high H2O) are the liquidusphases. No garnet is observed at this pressure. Dacite–peridotite interaction at 920 MPa produces massive orthopyroxenecrystallization, in addition to amphibole ± phlogopite.Amphibole crystallizing in dacite at 960 MPa has the same compositionas the aluminium-rich hornblende preserved in the cores of amphibolephenocrysts in the 1991 dacite, suggesting a high-pressure stageof dacite crystallization with high melt H2O contents (>10wt %) at relatively low temperature (<950°C). The compositionsof plagioclase, amphibole and melt inclusion suggest that thePinatubo dacite was water-rich, oxidized and not much hotterthan 900°C, when emplaced into the shallow magma reservoirin which most phenocrysts precipitated before the onset of the1991 eruption. The LREE-enriched REE pattern of the whole-rockdacite demands garnet somewhere during its petrogenesis, whichin turn suggests high-pressure derivation. Partial melting ofsubducted oceanic crust yields melts unlike the Pinatubo dacite.Interaction of these slab melts with sub-arc peridotite is unableto produce a Pinatubo type of dacite, nor is a direct mantleorigin conceivable on the basis of our peridotite–daciteinteraction experimental results. Dehydration melting of underplatedbasalts requires unrealistically high temperatures and doesnot yield dacite with the low FeO/MgO, and high H2O, Ni andCr contents typical of the Pinatubo dacite. The most plausibleorigin of the Pinatubo dacite is via high-pressure fractionationof a hydrous, oxidized, primitive basalt that crystallized amphiboleand garnet upon cooling. Dacite melts produced in this way weredirectly expelled from the uppermost mantle or lower crust toshallow-level reservoirs from which they erupted occasionally.Magmas such as the Pinatubo dacite may provide evidence forthe existence of particularly H2O-rich conditions in the sub-arcmantle wedge rather than the melting of the young, hot subductingoceanic plate. The petrographic and chemical composition of magmatic rocks generated during the Archaean appears to be different from that of post-Archaean rocks. Komatiites are widespread before 2.5 Ga and rarely occur afterwards. In addition the Archaean continental crust is primarily TTG (Tonalitic, Trondhjemitic and Granodioritic) in composition, exhibiting typical trondhjemitic differentiation trends; whereas modern equivalents are granodioritic to granitic following classical calc-alkaline differentiation trends. This distinction becomes more prominent when rare-earth elements (REE) are taken into account: Archaean TTG are Yb-poor (YbN < 8.5) and have high (La/Yb) ratios (5 < (La/Yb)N < 150), in comparison, the post-2.5 Ga granitoids, emplaced in subduction-zone geodynamic environments have high Yb content (4.5N<20) with very low (La/Yb)N ratios ( 20). Theoretical calculations and experimental petrology have shown that the TTG can be produced by partial melting of an Archaean tholeiite transformed into garnet-bearing amphibolite. Consequently, the low heavy REE content of the TTG is explained by the influence of both residual garnet and hornblende in their source. After 2.5 Ga the role of these minerals in calc-alkaline magma genesis becomes progressively less important, which is interpreted in terms of a cooling Earth model.

In modern subduction zone environments the subducted oceanic slab is relatively “old and cold” and the geothermal gradient along the Benioff plane in low (ca. 10°C/km). Consequently, the down-going lithosphere undergoes dehydration before partial melting is able to occur. The liberated fluids are light REE and LILE-enriched and ascend into the overlying mantle wedge where they induced partial fusion. The produced magmas separate from their mantle source region leaving a residue mainly composed of olivine and pyroxenes. Mantle derived magmas typically exhibit high Yb contents due to low KDYb values for olivine and pyroxenes. During the Archaean, the subducted lithosphere was relatively “young and hot” providing high geothermal gradients along the Benioff zone. Thus, partial melting of the subducted slab was possible at lower temperatures before dehydration would take place. Garnet and hornblende are the main residual phases accounting for the low Yb contents of the Archaean TTG.

This model can be tested using a modern analogue of Archaean-like subduction processes. In south Chile an oceanic ridge has subducted and all thermodynamic calculations indicate that this creates locally high geothermal gradients along the Benioff zone. Thus in very small areas, Archaean-like environments may be simulated in modern subduction zones. The modern andesites produced in this environment show Archaean geochemical characteristics with low YbN (<5), whereas the majority of andesites along the Andean arc have modern patterns with YbN ranging from 8 to more than 17. This conclusion was generalised to all young subducted lithospheres all over the world.

In conclusion, it appears that since the Archaean there has been a change in the site of continental crust genesis. The location of calc-alkaline magma source in subduction-zone environments has migrated through time from the subducted slab to the mantle wedge. This is a direct consequence of the progressive cooling of the Earth.  相似文献

The Bixiling mafic-ultramafic metamorphic complex is a 1•5km2 tectonic block within biotite gneiss in the southern Dabieultrahigh-pressure terrane, central China. The complex consistsof banded eclogites that contain thin layers of garnet-bearingcumulate ultramafic rock. Except for common eclogitic phases(garnet, omphacite, kyanite, phengite, zoisite and rutilc),banded eclogites contain additional talc and abundant coesiteinclusions in omphacite, zoisite, kyanite and garnet. Some metaultramaficrocks contain magnesite and Ti-clinohumite. Both eclogites andmeta-ultramafic rocks have undergone multi-stage metamorphism.Eclogite facies metamorphisrn occurred at 610–700C andP>27 kbar, whereas amphibolite facies retrograde metamorphismis characterized by symplectites of plagioclase and hornblendeafter omphacite and replacement of tremolite after talc at P<6–15kbar and T <600C. The meta-ultramafic assemblages such asolivine + enstatite + diopside + garnet and Ti-clinohumite +diopside + enstatite + garnet + magnesite olivine formed at700–800C and 47–67 kbar. Investigation of the phaserelations for the system CaO-MgO-SiO2-H2O-CO2 and the experimentallydetermined stabilities of talc, magnesite and Ti-clinohumiteindicate that (1) UHP talc assemblages are restricted to Mg-Algabbro composition and cannot be an important water-bearingphase in the ultramafic mantle, and (2) Ti-clinohumite and magnesiteare stable H2O-bearing and CO2-bearing phases at depths >100km. The mafic-ultramafic cumulates were initially emplaced atcrustal levels, then subducted to great depths during the Triassiccollision of the Sine-Korean and Yangtze cratons. The Archaean rocks of West Greenland are predominantly bandedquartzofeldspathic gneisses enclosing thin migmatized sheetsof older metabasic and metasedimentary lithologies. Isotopicdating (Moorbath & Pankhurst, 1976) indicates that muchof the Archaean crust presently exposed in southern West Greenlandwas generated from predominantly upper mantle sources 3000-2800m.y. ago. Parts of this crust crystallized under prograde granulitefacies conditions 2950-2750 m.y. ago. The granulite gneisseswere severely depleted in some of the lithophile and heat producingelements, Si, Na, Sr, Rb, U and Th, during the granulite metamorphism. These elements appear to have been transferred to higher crustallevels by the migration of a dispersed vapour phase. The pressureand temperature recorded by amphibolite and granulite faciesassemblages have been estimated using thermometers and barometerscalibrated against the results of phase equilibrium experiments. These estimates (800 °C, 10.5 kb and 630 °C, 7.3 kbfor granulite and amphibolite facies respectively) indicatethat the Archaean continental crust in southern West Greenlandwas at least 30–40 km thick 2800 m.y. ago. Water vapourpressures in the granulites were extremely low, 0.3 to 0.1 Ptotal. The thermal evolution of the Archaean crust during the period3000-2700 m.y. was controlled by the emplacement of large volumesof acid-intermediate melts into a relatively thin metabasiccrust. The thermal perturbations generated by this convectivetransfer of heat from the upper mantle to the crust relaxedduring the period immediately following crustal accretion. Progradegranulite facies assemblages could have developed under stronglydehydrating conditions and progressively falling temperatures,or during a phase of rising temperature in the lower crust.  相似文献

There is no consensus on the processes responsible for near-coeval formation of Archaean continental crust (dominantly tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite: TTG), greenstone belts dominated by komatiitic to tholeiitic lavas (KT), and sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). The Douglas Harbour domain (2.7-2.9 Ga) of the Minto Block, northeastern Superior Province, has two TTG suites, the western and eastern Faribault-Thury (WFT and EFT), with embedded KT greenstones. Tonalites of both suites have high light/heavy rare-earth element ratios (L/HREE), high large ion lithophile element (U-Th-Rb-Cs-La: LILE) contents, positive Sr-Pb anomalies, and negative Nb-Ta-Ti anomalies. Such typical Archaean TTG signatures are commonly explained by melting of subducted oceanic crust, but could also originate by melting the base of thick basaltic plateaux formed above mantle upwellings (plumes), leaving behind restites containing pyroxene, garnet, and rutile. Field relationships (in situ segregation veins), phase equilibria (hornblende stabilized at lower crustal pressure), petrography (corroded epidote and muscovite phenocrysts, rare plagioclase phenocrysts), and trace element models, all imply that FT tonalite to trondhjemite evolution reflects hornblende-dominated fractional crystallization, not partial melting of subducted crust. The geochemistry of parental FT tonalites can be modeled by 15-30% melting of FT tholeiitic metabasalts, with residues of eclogite, garnet-websterite, or hornblende-garnet websterite. A minor residual Ti-phase such as rutile is also needed to generate negative Ti-Nb-Ta troughs in the TTGs. However, large volumes of eclogitic restites complementary to TTG are not observed either at the base of Archaean crustal sections, or in the SCLM. Additional problems with slab-melting models include: (a) the rarity of lithologies and associations characteristic of active margins (ophiolites, andesites, blueschists, accretionary mélanges, molasse, flysch, high-pressure belts, and thrust-and-fold belts); (b) the need to deliver plume-derived KT melt through the slab; and (c) extracting enough TTG melt from a subducting slab in the time available (200-300 my). In the plateau-melting model, heat for crustal anatexis is supplied by ongoing KT magma derived from mantle upwellings. However, SCLM rocks differ from predicted 1-stage mantle melting residua; and the voluminous residual eclogites complementary to TTG generation somehow need to be removed. These two problems might solve one another if the dense crustal restites disaggregated and mixed into the underlying depleted mantle. Mantle melting slows upon exhaustion of Ca-Al-rich phases, with large temperature increases needed to extract more melt from harzburgite residua. Physical addition of delaminated crustal restites would refertilize the refractory mantle, allowing extraction of additional melt increments, and might explain the ultra-depleted and orthopyroxene-rich nature of the SCLM. A hybrid source composed of 10% eclogitic restite of EFT tonalite generation, mixed with harzburgitic residues from 25% melting of primitive mantle, yields model melts with trace element signatures resembling typical Munro komatiites. Variations in the mineralogy and geochemistry of the delaminated component might account for the diversity of komatiite types. Degassing of hornblende-rich delaminated restites would transfer LILE to surrounding depleted mantle and could generate boninites. Fusion of undepleted metabasalt sandwiched among denser restites could generate sanukitoids. Mantle melt pulses generated by catastrophic delamination events would underplate nascent TTG crust and trigger renewed crustal melting, followed by delamination of newly formed eclogitic restites, triggering additional mantle melting, and so on. I posit that delamination of crustal restites catalyzed multi-stage melting of the SCLM and maturation of the Archaean continental crust. Thus, Archaean crust and SCLM are genetically inter-linked, and both form above major mantle upwellings.  相似文献

A suite of garnetiferous amphibolites and mafic granulites occuras small boudins within layered felsic migmatite gneiss in thenorthern part of the Sausar Mobile Belt (SMB), the latter constitutingthe southern component of the Proterozoic Central Indian TectonicZone (CITZ). Although the two types of metabasites are in variousstages of retrogression, textural, compositional and phase equilibriastudies attest to four distinct metamorphic episodes. The earlyprograde stage (Mo) is represented by an inclusion assemblageof hornblende1 + ilmenite1 + plagioclase1 ± quartz andgrowth zoning preserved in garnet. The peak assemblage (M1)consists of porphyroblastic garnet + clinopyroxene ±quartz ± rutile ± hornblende in mafic granulitesand garnet + quartz + hornblende in amphibolites and stabilizedat pressure–temperature conditions of 9–10 kbarand 750–800°C and 8 kbar and 675°C, respectively. This was followed by near-isothermal decompression (M2), andpost-decompression cooling (M3) events. In mafic granulites, the former resulted in the development of early clinopyroxene2A–hornblende2A–plagioclase2Asymplectites at 8 kbar and 775°C (M2A stage), synchronouswith D2 and later anhydrous clinopyroxene2B–plagioclase2B–ilmenite2Bsymplectites and coronal assemblages at 7 kbar, 750°C (M2Bstage) and post-dating D2. In amphibolites, ilmenite + plagioclase+ quartz ± hornblende symplectites appeared during M2at 6·4 kbar and 700°C. During M3, coronal garnet+ clinopyroxene + quartz ± hornblende-bearing symplectitesin metabasic dykes and hornblende3–plagioclase3 symplectitesembaying garnet in mafic granulites were formed. PT estimatesshow near-isobaric cooling from 7 kbar and 750°C to 6 kbarand 650°C during M3. It is argued that the decompressionin the mafic granulites is not continuous, being punctuatedby a distinct heating (prograde?) event. The latter is alsocoincident with a period of extension, marked by mafic dykeemplacement. The combined PT path of evolution has aclockwise sense and provides evidence for a major phase of earlycontinental subduction in parts of the CITZ. This was followedby a later continent–continent collision event duringwhich granulites of the first phase became tectonically interleavedwith younger lithological units. This tectonothermal event,of possibly Grenvillian age, marks the final amalgamation ofthe North and the South Indian Blocks along the CITZ to producethe Indian subcontinent. The Kuiqi Peralkaline Granitic Complex (SE China): Petrology and Geochemistry   总被引:44,自引:1,他引:43
The Mesozoic volcano-plutonic belt of SE China is characterized,in the Kuiqi area, by acid volcanics followed by the Yanshangranites. The Kuiqi granitic complex, which belongs to the latterunit, is made up of a calc-alkaline and a peralkaline group. The calc-alkaline group consists of two intrusions, the Danyangmonzogranite and the Fuzhou syenogranite, emplaced 10310 Maand 104 5 Ma ago, respectively (Rb-Sr whole-rock isochrons).Formation of the Danyang monzogranite can be explained by athree-stage model: (1) partial melting of a metasomatized mantlegenerated a dioritic magma known in the area as the Nanyu diorite;(2) the magma was contaminated (25%) by lower continental crust;(3) large amounts (70–80%) of fractional crystallizationof hornblende and plagioclase at depth gave rise to the magmaticsuite. The Fuzhou syenogranite is more fractionated and itsformation involved crystallization of plagioclase + biotite+ K-feldspar + apatite. Intrusion of the peralkaline group isdated at 93 1 Ma (Kuiqi peralkaline granite) and at 91.80.9(Bijiashan peralkaline granite). These units are homogeneousand their petrogenesis is less constrained than for the calc-alkalinesuite. Nevertheless, a multistage process can be proposed: (1)partial melting of a metasomatized mantle produced a dioriticmagma; (2) fractional crystallization began with segregationof hornblende + plagioclase ilmenite and/or magnetite; subsequently, hornblende no longer crystallized; (3) the last stage of fractionationcorresponded to the crystallization of K-feldspar + plagioclase+ REE-rich accessory phases. Mineralogical study indicates thatduring the last stage, fluids played a prominent role and controlledthe nature of the crystallizing minerals. The magma evolvedfrom F- and S-rich, and water-undersaturated to water-oversaturated,leading to the exsolution and dissociation of an H2O vapourphase and to the loss of H2. The change from calc-alkaline toperalkaline magmatism is related to inferred changes in thetectonic environment. The calc-alkaline granites were generatedin a subduction setting in which water was supplied by dehydrationof the downgoing slab. The peralkaline granites were producedin a crustal thinning environment where little water was available, thus necessitating high temperatures to initiate partial melting. On the other hand, petrogenetic modelling shows that both calc-alkalineand peralkaline granites could have been derived from the samesource which is metasomatized mantle. This possibly indicatesthat the volcanic are source, active during subduction, persistedbeneath the continent and was reactivated during the post-orogenicmagmatism. The reactivation was caused by a deep crustal fault.  相似文献

Crystalline basement exposed in tectonic windows within theUngava Orogen records a polycyclic Archean granulite-faciesto Paleoproterozoic amphibolite-facies history. Amphibolite-faciesassemblages comprise garnet coronas around plagioclase, clinopyroxeneor cummingtonite coronas on orthopyroxene, hornblende coronason clinopyroxeneorthopyroxene, sodic rims on calcic plagioclase,and/or titanite coronas on ilmenite. Petrographic observationsand model reactions suggest that growth of coronitic garnetis closely associated with amphibolitization of twopyroxenegneisses. Calcic plagioclase constitutes a key reactant in allgarnet-producing reactions and possibly acted as a rate-controllingphase. Multi-equilibrium thermobarometric calculations showgood convergence of possible equilibria in the amphibolite-faciesrocks, indicating that coronitic textures need not imply completechemical disequilibrium. P—T determinations for the amphibolite-faciesgneisses beneath the thrust belt of Ungava Orogen are in therange 7.7–9.8 kbar and 585–723C. These values areconsistent with prograde determinations from pelitic schistswithin the thrust belt. Estimates of water activity clusterinto two populations. High aH2O values are obtained for highlystrained basement rocks adjacent to the thrust belt whereaslow aH2O values are derived for orthogneiss samples which showno thrust-related fabrics and are distal to the thrust belt.
