Abstract

With regard to the cadastral maps of New Zealand it may be observed that the function of any particular class of map in this Dominion depends very much on whether it is a representation of the area, boundaries, and ownership of freehold lots, a subdivision of Native land, or one of the various leasehold tenures of Crown land.  相似文献

Abstract

Owing to delays at this end in the preparation of the paper on “The direct use of vertical photographs in Zanzibar for cadastral purposes”, for which apology is due to Mr. Chambers as well as to readers, its publication has been regretfully deferred. We are using the opportunity to publish the Bibliography which could not conveniently appear with our opening paper last April, and to accompany this with an outline of some early and feudal developments in land records which we hope may help to interest a wider circle of land surveyors in this feature of cadastral work. For experience in many countries has impressed on us that the effective record of rights and duties pertaining to land, particularly in parts of the world less stably patterned agriculturally and more closely divided than England, has suffered grievously from a divorce between the legal and the technical aspects of cadastral record and between its operation and effects as sought on parchment in legislatures and the administrative offices of governments and as realized in daily practice by landholders and cultivators on the ground itself.  相似文献

Abstract

The general organization remained the same as during the last few years, but owing to the reduction last year by 32 per cent. of the European and by 8 per cent. of the African-personnel the output of cadastral and topographical work was considerably lower. Against this, however, there have been increased activity and larger output from the drawing and lithographic sections.  相似文献

Abstract

We regret that, owing to illness and the pressure of other demands on them in the same field, it has been necessary to interrupt the publication of the papers on cadastral subjects which Sir Ernest Dowson and Mr. Sheppard are contributing to the Review. We hope, however, to resume this valuable and interesting series in the January 1947 issue.— ED., E.S.R.  相似文献

Abstract

Cadastral Traversing.—For cadastral purposes traverses are now being executed with an accuracy wholly unnecessary for even large topographical scales. But since “accuracy” varies from a mile to a micron, according to the viewpoint of the observer, it is advisable to exhibit a cadastral traverse, care being taken that it is not an example of that not very uncommon occurrence in which fortuity apes precIsIon. If the accuracy of the example is somewhat unusual, it can be said with assurance that it is not very unusual.  相似文献

Abstract

Since 1899 cadastral mapping in the Sudan has been concentrated along the banks of the Nile from the Egyptian frontier to latitude 13°N., in the towns, and in the area of the Gezira, south of Khartoum, where cotton has been developed. These surveys were controlled by theodolite and steel tape either in the form of traverses or rectangulation. The early triangulation was used mainly to control topographical surveys, for it was essential to cover the whole country as rapidly as possible with a series of maps on scale 1: 250,000. As a consequence much of this early triangulation is of a relatively low order of accuracy, indifferently marked on the ground, and unfit for inclusion in a framework for medium and large scale mapping.  相似文献

Abstract

At the end of 1934 I visited Zanzibar at the invitation of the Government to advise on methods of cadastral survey and land registration suited to local conditions. Here I am only concerned with the former aspect of this problem. Although stated in general terms, it was in the tenure of the clove and, to a lesser extent, the coconut holdings that the need for these associated records had primarily appeared. My inquiry led to the submission of proposals for the direct use of vertical air photographs for a dual purpose cadastral survey of the Protectorate, which would not only satisfy the requirements of a Land Register, but also systematically furnish information of value to clove cultivation following earlier recommendations made by Professor R. S. Troup. Space does not permit of consideration of this associated objective here, but the possibilities which the method offers of providing concurrently an agricultural as well as a cadastral record is one of its claims to consideration.  相似文献

THE Palestine cadastral survey began in the plains in 1929 and, except in a few isolated villages which had to be specially dealt with, the work has, so far, not spread to the hilly country.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

There is an increasing availability of geospatial data describing patterns of human settlement and population such as various global remote-sensing based built-up land layers, fine-grained census-based population estimates, and publicly available cadastral and building footprint data. This development constitutes new integrative modeling opportunities to characterize the continuum of urban, peri-urban, and rural settlements and populations. However, little research has been done regarding the agreement between such data products in measuring human presence which is measured by different proxy variables (i.e. presence of built-up structures derived from different remote sensors, census-derived population counts, or cadastral land parcels). In this work, we quantitatively evaluate and cross-compare the ability of such data to model the urban continuum, using a unique, integrated validation database of cadastral and building footprint data, U.S. census data, and three different versions of the Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) derived from remotely sensed data. We identify advantages and shortcomings of these data types across different geographic settings in the U.S., which will inform future data users on implications of data accuracy and suitability for a given application, even in data-poor regions of the world.  相似文献

Abstract

THE resolutions and pious hopes (væux) passed by the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics at Edinburgh in September 1936 have just been circulated in a formidable document of 8 pages and XXIX commandments. Of these, two affect the Cape-to-Cairo line particularly and they seem to deserve special study. The first of these, Number III—on systems of Projections—applies the meridional strips of the Transverse Mercator Projection apparently to all maps, topographical as well as cadastral.  相似文献

The following account of the expedition which succeeded in fixing a new height for Mount Kilimanjaro is taken in the main from the diary of the party that made the necessary observations, but, for the sake of clarity, it is as well to set out here a very brief statement of the position.  相似文献

The recent study and classification of over 200 cadastral maps created in the nineteenth century in Catalonia have provided a valuable source of information about the agricultural landscape country’s past, but by linking them with data recorded in tax books known as amillaramientos, it is possible to gain a better knowledge of the past. By applying this method to the 1861 cadastral map of Horta and its corresponding amillaramiento, a planimetric map showing the land use distribution in the town was created. The resulting land use map was subsequently overlaid on top of a digital elevation model to create 3D visualizations which show the altitudinal distribution of crops and other features. Finally, the article explores a way of distributing the results online, making them accessible to the public and increasing the research impact of future findings. Therefore, the method described in this article allows the systematic recreation and distribution of past landscapes by using Catalan cadastral maps of the nineteenth century, something which can help enrich the scientific knowledge of many disciplines.  相似文献

Abstract

Photogrammetry, terrestrial and particularly aerial, with which the following will exclusively deal, is at the present time employed practically throughout the world for the preparation of maps to every scale. While at the time of the introduction of the system its use was limited to topographical maps, it has been extended in the last fifteen years to the production of cadastral maps. In spite of the conservative. attitude of the cadastral authorities of every country to all innovations, this method has been accepted more and more by such authorities. After the excellent pioneer work of Switzerland, which in the course of time is to produce cadastral maps of half the country (2,000,000 ha.) by means of photogrammetry, Germany, Holland, France, Italy, Spain, and other countries have followed this example, the method being employed in these countries in an ever-increasing degree for cadastral measurement. Although the decision for the use of the photogrammetric method for cadastral measurement has been made in some degree in Europe, the large Colonies, especially those of the British Empire, are still hesitant in this connexion. Investigations which follow hereunder have been made in order to ascertain how far this new method of measurement is useful for Colonial cadastral measurement.  相似文献

Abstract

It is doubtless true that the cadastral surveys of the British Empire are controlled more frequently by traversing than otherwise. Accordingly, although the traverse has been the subject of several papers in recent issues of this Quarterly, its widespread use appears to entitle it to every consideration, especially since there are elements in the completed procedure on which opinions are still fluid; indeed a few of them may long continue to arouse debate.  相似文献

Abstract

General.— The year 1934 has seen on the survey side an active continuation of trig. and cadastral surveys and on the land side standardization of procedure and routine. Good progress has been made in both branches. The surplus of revenue over expenditure, noted last year for almost the first time, has been very considerably increased, being of the order of eighty-two thousand dollars.  相似文献

Abstract

Many of the traditional data visualization techniques, which proved to be supportive for exploratory analysis of datasets of moderate sizes, fail to fulfil their function when applied to large datasets. There are two approaches to coping with large amounts of data: data selection, when only a portion of data is displayed, and data aggregation, i.e. grouping data items and considering the groups instead of the original data. None of these approaches alone suits the needs of exploratory data analysis, which requires consideration of data on all levels: overall (considering a dataset as a whole), intermediate (viewing and comparing collective characteristics of arbitrary data subsets, or classes), and elementary (accessing individual data items). Therefore, it is necessary to combine these approaches, i.e. build a tool showing the whole set and arbitrarily defined subsets (object classes) in an aggregated way and superimposing this with a representation of arbitrarily selected individual data items.

We have achieved such a combination of approaches by modifying the technique of parallel coordinate plot. These modifications are described and analysed in the paper.  相似文献

Abstract

It should always be remembered that photogrammetry originated on the ground, then ascended into the skies, and that the descent to earth and brass tacks is not easy, and is sometimes dangerous. Proposals for the solution of the colonial problem of cadastral mapping are always interesting, but Dr Wolff's generalities for “the large Colonies of the British Empire who are still hesitant” are merely that.  相似文献
