The Siruyeh landslide occurred at the eastern side of the Siruyeh valley, 22 km west of Semirom city, south of Esfahān on
25th March, 2005 with large dimensions (2,400 m long, 450 m wide with total area of 1 km2). The sliding mass blocked the Siruyeh River making a 35-m-high natural dam and 6-acre lake 570,000 m3 in volume that poses a potential threat for the area. The landslide occurred in soil and intensely weathered marls of the
Tarbur and Kashkan Formations (upper Cretaceous–Paleocene age). The overall comparison and interpretation of the gathered
evidence from satellite images, field trips, and laboratory tests show that the most important factors involved in triggering
the Siruyeh landslide in order of importance are heavy precipitation and snow melt and intense concentration of faults and
fractures as well as weathered and weak lithology. 相似文献

Urban expanding pattern and soil organic, inorganic carbon distribution in Shanghai, China 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Soil carbon stock changes induced by land-use change play an essential role in the global greenhouse effect and carbon circulation. This paper studies the urban expanding patterns and spatial characteristics of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil inorganic carbon (SIC) distribution and evolution during the urbanization process of Shanghai, China, based on the data of the regional geochemical survey. Urbanization process in Shanghai, China, has been quickening greatly since the 1980s. The urban area expanded from 193.08 km2 in 1980 to 1,570.52 km2 in 2005, or up from 3.05 to 24.77% in the past 25 years, and the urban expansion circled the central city region according to the RS images acquired in the periods of 1980, 2000 and 2005. The urban topsoil is slightly enriched with SOC and SIC, which shows obvious spatial variability. By comparison of SOC and SIC distribution in the central urban area, urbanized area during 1980–2000, 2000–2005 and the suburban area, the SOC obviously accumulates in the central urban area, while SOC density in the urbanized area decreases; similarly, the SIC obviously accumulates in central urban area; furthermore, the SIC density increases with urban land use duration extending and urban ecosystem evolving. This paper provides the characteristics of SOC and SIC distribution and evolution during the course of urbanization, which may be useful for assessing the impact of land use and urban development on SOC and SIC pools in urban ecosystem. 相似文献

Although Pingtung plain is an agriculturally developed region, its limited hydrologic conditions have restrained the maximization
of its surface water resources. Due to the lack of proper management and sustainable utilization, groundwater has been overdrawn,
causing serious land subsidence and seawater intrusion. The present paper presents a pilot study for artificially recharging
groundwater using high-infiltration basins. Results of the geometric factor show that the large basin is ca. 6.8 times the
size of the small one, with the infiltration volume almost approaching 1 m3/day/m2. In the groundwater variation, the MW-2 is located immediately below the infiltration basin; therefore, its water level rises
more rapidly than that of MW-3. As for the infiltration volume, results of the experiment used the same basin since 2002,
which shows that the volumes gradually decreased from 12,136 to 5,555 m3/day. This is particularly evident in 2005 when volume decrease was at a maximum ca. 2,000 m3/day. Finally, the infiltration rate decreased from 22.76 to 7.15 m/day. The difference in infiltration rate between 2003
and 2005 has a maximum variation from to 15.2 to 10.33 m/day. In 2003, the addition of sand caused the infiltration rate to
fall to a minimum ca. 5.3 m/day. By extending the recharge time, the infiltration rate fell gradually similar to those identified

The dynamics of desertification in the Horqin Sandy Land between 2000 and 2005 were analyzed using Landsat TM/ETM images and
the data-processing function of geographical information software. The results showed that the extent of desertified land
decreased at a rate of slightly more than 0.1 km2 year−1, from 22,423.1 km2 in 2000 to 22,422.4 km2 in 2005, indicating that desertification has been controlled in this area and that desert areas may be approaching a steady
state. The dynamics of desertification differed among land types. Desertification decreased most obviously in areas of previous
desert land. The area in which desertification was ameliorated was higher than the area that underwent further degradation,
but non-desertified land (113.3 km2) deteriorated at a rate of 22.7 km2 year−1 during this period. This significant change requires careful attention by managers in the study area. 相似文献

We determine the source parameters of three minor earthquakes in the Upper Rhine Graben (URG), a Cenozoic rift, using waveforms
from permanent and temporary seismological stations. Two shallow thrust-faulting events (M
L = 2.4 and 1.5) occurred on the rift shoulder just south of Heidelberg in March 2005. They indicate a possible movement along
the sediment–crystalline interface due to tectonic loading from the near-by Odenwald. In February 2005, an earthquake with
a normal-faulting mechanism occurred north of Speyer. This event (M
L = 2.8) had an unusual depth of about 22 km and a similar deep normal-faulting event occurred there in 1972 (M
L = 3.2). Other lower crustal events without fault plane solutions are known from 1981 and 1983. At such a depth, inside the
lower crust, ductile behaviour instead of brittle faulting is commonly assumed and used for geodynamic modelling. Based on
the newly available fault plane solutions we can confirm the brittle, extensional regime in the upper and lower crust in the
central to northern URG indicated in earlier studies. 相似文献

A regional time and magnitude predictable model has been applied to estimate the recurrence intervals for large earthquakes
in the vicinity of 8 October 2005 Kashmir Himalaya earthquake (25°–40°N and 65°–85°E), which includes India, Pakistan, Afghanistan,
Hindukush, Pamirs, Mangolia and Tien-Shan. This region has been divided into 17 seismogenic sources on the basis of certain
seismotectonics and geomorphological criteria. A complete earthquake catalogue (historical and instrumental) of magnitude
Ms ≥ 5.5 during the period 1853–2005 has been used in the analysis. According to this model, the magnitude of preceding earthquake
governs the time of occurrence and magnitude of future mainshock in the sequence. The interevent time between successive mainshocks
with magnitude equal to or greater than a minimum magnitude threshold were considered and used for long-term earthquake prediction
in each of seismogenic sources. The interevent times and magnitudes of mainshocks have been used to determine the following

seismic hazard assessment in the considered region. Based on the model applicability in the studied region and taking into
account the occurrence time and magnitude of last mainshock in each seismogenic source, the time-dependent conditional probabilities
(PC) for the occurrence of next shallow large mainshocks (Ms ≥ 6.5), during next 20 years as well as the expected magnitudes

A sea ice record for Barrow Strait in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA) is presented for the interval 10.0–0.4 cal. kyr BP. This Holocene record is based primarily on the occurrence of a sea ice biomarker chemical, IP25, isolated from a marine sediment core obtained from Barrow Strait in 2005. A core chronology is based on 14C AMS dating of mollusc shells obtained from ten horizons within the core. The primary IP25 data are compared with complementary proxy data obtained from analysis of other organic biomarkers, stable isotope composition of bulk organic matter, benthic foraminifera, particle size distributions and ratios of inorganic elements. The combined proxy data show that the palaeo-sea ice record can be grouped according to four intervals, and these can be contextualised further with respect to the Holocene Thermal Maximum (HTM). Spring sea ice occurrence was lowest during the early–mid Holocene (10.0–6.0 cal. kyr BP) and this was followed by a second phase (6.0–4.0 cal. kyr BP) where spring sea ice occurrence showed a small increase. Between 4.0 and 3.0 cal. kyr BP, spring sea ice occurrence increased abruptly to above the median and we associate this interval with the termination of the HTM. Elevated spring sea ice occurrences continued from 3.0 to 0.4 cal. kyr BP, although they were more variable on shorter timescales. Within this fourth interval, we also provide evidence for slightly lower and subsequently higher spring sea ice occurrence during the Mediaeval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age respectively. Comparisons are made between our proxy data with those obtained from other palaeo-climate and sea ice studies for the CAA. 相似文献

Intensive use of land resources in arid and semi-arid regions exert serious pressures on groundwater resources and jeopardize
further socio-economical developments. The Amman-Zarqa Basin (AZB), the most vital basin in Jordan, is facing recent groundwater
deterioration due to a very large increase in water demands for domestic, agricultural, and industrial uses. The objectives
of this paper were to quantify the degree of contamination in the basin by evaluating the characteristics, distribution and
seasonal variations of two pollution indicators (nitrate concentration and salinity) and to determine the impacts of human
activities (land use) on groundwater quality. Based upon long-term data (1970–2005) of groundwater samples collected from
538 wells across the AZB, spatial analyses indicated that both indicators have a strong spatial dependence and are anisotropically
distributed. Prediction maps of Ordinary Kriging and Indicator Kriging provided detailed indications of the major and minor
sources of pollution in the basin. Inefficient wastewater treatment plants, industrial activities and agricultural practices
were responsible for 91, 85, and 25% salinization of nearby wells, respectively. Nitrate pollution had reached 73% above threshold
(50 mg/L) in some cases. The temporal analyses estimated the salinity buildup rate to be around 8 × 10−2 μS/cm per day, while nitrate buildup rate was estimated to be around 6 × 10−2 mg/L per day. Remote sensing and spatial analyses helped greatly in groundwater quality assessment not only in providing
the environmental status of the AZB but also in delineating the potential of contamination risk zones and their correlation
to human activities. Furthermore, the paper suggests some environmental protection strategies that should be adopted to protect
the vital groundwater resources of the basin from further deterioration. 相似文献

This study measured the major element concentrations and compositions of atmospheric dust aerosol samples collected weekly
for nearly 2 years at Mt. Muztagata, a remote and high-elevation site (38°17′N, 75°01′E, 4,430 m) in the Eastern Pamirs. Inductively
coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP–MS) results show that on the weekly timescale, air at Muztagata contained average element
Al concentrations of 842 ng m−3 between June 2004 and December 2005, and 509 ng m−3 between June 2005 and April 2006. The dust load over the Eastern Pamirs appears to be far lower (by more than an order of
magnitude) than those in northern China. The Muztagata dust aerosols show Ca/Al ratios (~0.7) and Fe/Al ratios (~0.7) that
differ from that in northern China. The general homogeneity exists in the major element compositions, expect Ca/Al ratios
which show minor but clear seasonal variations. Element ratios vary with aerosol concentration. Results indicate that concentrations
and compositions of Asian dust change significantly between different emission regions, and confirm that major element ratios
can be used to efficiently characterize the dust aerosols composition at different sites in northern China. 相似文献

The chemical bulk rock composition of 37 xenoliths, brought from depths of 25–30 km to the surface by penetrating Cenozoic alkali basaltic magma, from the Shamah Harrat, southwestern Syria, was determined by XRF spectroscopy. The geochemical character of these xenoliths points to original marls and within-plate igneous rocks. To obtain the mean chemical composition of the corresponding upper portion of the lower crust, the compositions of the 37 xenoliths were averaged and a leucogranitic and upper crustal component was added to account for assimilation by the Cenozoic magmas. This mean is more basic (SiO2—50.5 wt%) and richer in HFSE, LREE, and LILE compared to compositions of the lower crust given by Taylor and McLennan [1985. Tylosaurus nepaeolicus (Cope, 1874), from the lower Smokey Hill Chalk upper Coniacian of Kansas is reassessed and compared to T. kansasensis Everhart, 2005, its sympatric contemporary from the same formation; both are compared to a later species from the upper Smoky Hill Chalk, T. proriger (Cope, 1869). Tylosaurus nepaeolicus (Cope, 1874) is virtually indistinguishable from T. kansasensis Everhart, 2005, and both show important similarities with T. proriger, particularly the smaller individuals of T. kansasensis. Many of the anatomical features of T. kansasensis are indicative of a juvenile stage based on comparisons to T. proriger. In addition to the aforementioned spatial and temporal sympatry between T. nepaeolicus and T. kansasensis, it is anatomically difficult to distinguish the two species from each other, with the few notable differences being ontogenetically variable, and possibly indicating allometric changes during post-embryonic development; in addition, T. nepaeolicus is known from fragmentary remains of very large individuals, while T. kansasensis is known from a small number of complete and recently collected skulls, though of much smaller size than the type materials of T. nepaeolicus. We suggest that T. kansasensis is a juvenile of Tylosaurus nepaeolicus, and is thus the junior synonym of the latter. Furthermore, we find ontogenetic evidence to suggest that T. proriger is likely a paedomorph of T. nepaeolicus, albeit, a gigantic one. 相似文献

Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data were used to investigate vegetation changes after Hurricane Katrina (2005)
for the Weeks Bay Reserve and surrounding area of coastal AL. Landsat 5 satellite images were acquired before landfall (March
24, 2005), after landfall (September 16, 2005), and 8 months after landfall (April 28, 2006). The March 2005 to September
2005 image comparison showed that average NDVI values decreased by 49% after landfall. Continuing into the next year, average
NDVI values were −44% lower in April 2006 than they were in March 2005. Among habitat types, the estuarine emergent wetland
experienced the largest average NDVI value decrease (−64%). The estuarine emergent wetland NDVI values continued to decrease
by −27% from September 2005 to April 2006, whereas other habitats increased in NDVI. This continued suppression of NDVI values
was attributed to increased salinity from the storm surge and to regional drought conditions that occurred after landfall.
These results provide insight into the sensitivity of coastal vegetation from the interactions of both tropical cyclones and

Decline of native pelagic species in estuarine systems is an increasing problem, especially for native fishes in the San Francisco
Estuary and Delta (SFE-D). Addressing these losses depends on understanding trophodynamics in the food web that supports threatened
species. We quantified the role of microzooplankton (heterotrophic–mixotrophic protists <200 μm) in the food web of the upper
SFE-D. We sampled protist plankton abundance and composition at two sites (Suisun Bay and Grizzly Bay) approximately monthly
from February 2004 to August 2005 and conducted dilution experiments during spring and summer of both years in Suisun Bay.
Heterotrophs dominated the protist community in Suisun Bay and Grizzly Bay, particularly in the <20 μm size range, and peaks
in protistan microzooplankton biomass were associated with high phytoplankton biomass. In both years, microzooplankton grazing
rates were high (0.5–0.7 day−1) during the spring and lower (~0.2 day−1) during summer. Phytoplankton growth rates peaked in April 2004 (~0.7 day−1) but were much lower (<0.1 day−1) in spring 2005, despite relatively high abundance. Thus, microzooplankton grazing consumed as much as 73% of phytoplankton
standing stock during spring and ~15% of standing stock during summer of both years. Combined with earlier results, we conclude
that microzooplankton can be important mediators of carbon and energy flow in the upper SFE-D and may be a “source” to the

The October 2005 earthquake triggered several thousand landslides in the Lesser Himalaya of Kashmir in northern Pakistan and
India. Analyses of ASTER satellite imagery from 2001 were compared with a study undertaken in 2005; the results show the extent
and nature of pre- and co-/post-seismic landsliding. Within a designated study area of ~2,250 km2, the number of landslides increased from 369 in 2001 to 2,252 in October 2005. Assuming a balanced baseline landsliding frequency
over the 4 years, most of the new landslides were likely triggered by the 2005 earthquake and its aftershocks. These landslides
mainly happened in specific geologic formations, along faults, rivers and roads, and in shrubland/grassland and agricultural
land. Preliminary results from repeat photographs from 2005 and 2006 after the snowmelt season reveal that much of the ongoing
landsliding occurred along rivers and roads, and the extensive earthquake-induced fissuring. Although the susceptibility zoning
success rate for 2001 was low, many of the co-/post-seismic landsliding in 2005 occurred in areas that had been defined as
being potentially dangerous on the 2001 map. While most of the area in 2001 was (very) highly susceptible to future landsliding,
most of the area in 2005 was only moderate to low susceptible, that is, most of the landsliding in 2005 actually occurred
in the potentially dangerous areas on the 2001 map. This study supports the view that although susceptibility zoning maps
represent a powerful tool in natural hazard management, caution is needed when developing and using such maps. 相似文献

A case study for the ion–aerosol interactions is presented from the simultaneous measurements of mobility spectra of atmospheric
ions in the mobility range of 2.29 to 2.98 × 10 − 4 cm2 V − 1 s-1^{-1}(diameter range 0.41–109 nm) and of size distribution of atmospheric aerosol particles in the size ranges of 4.4–700 nm and
500–20,000 nm diameters made at Maitri (70°45′52′
′S, 11°44′2.7′
′E; 130 m above mean sea level), Antarctica, on two days January 17 and February 18, 2005, with contrasting meteorological
conditions. In contrast to January 17, on February 18, winds were stronger from the morning to noon and lower from the noon
to evening, atmospheric pressure was lower, cloudiness was more, the land surface remained snow-covered after a blizzard on
February 16 and 17 and the airmass over Maitri, descended from an altitude of ~3 km after an excursion over ocean. On these
days mobility spectra showed two modes, corresponding to intermediate ions and light large ions and an indication of additional
one/two maxima for small/cluster ions and heavy large ions. The small ions generated by cosmic rays, and the nucleation mode
particles generated probably by photochemical reactions grew in size by condensation of volatile trace gases on them and produced
the cluster and intermediate ion modes and the Aitken particle mode in ion/particle spectra. Particles in the size range of
9–26 nm have been estimated to grow at the rate of 1.9 nm h − 1 on February 18, 2005. Both, ions and aerosol particles show bimodal size distributions in the 16–107 nm size range, and comparison
of the two size distributions suggests the formation of multiple charged ions. Attachment of small ions to particles in this
bimodal distribution of Aitken particles together with the formation of multiple charged ions are proposed to result in the
light and heavy large ion modes. Growth of the nucleation mode particles on February 18, 2005 is associated with the passage
of the airmass over ocean. In contrast, though the ion size distributions were not much different, the aerosol size distributions
did not show a dominant peak for the formation and growth of nucleation mode particles on January 17. More measurements are
needed before the conclusion of this case study is generalized. 相似文献

Zircon grains separated from 2 granulites from the eastern Himalaya were investigated by Raman spectroscopy, cathodoluminescence
imaging, and secondary ion mass spectrometry. These grains have a thin homogeneous rim and an oscillatory inner zone domain
with or without a relict inherited core. Garnet, kyanite, and rutile inclusions were identified within only the rim domain
of zircon grains, indicating that the rim had formed during peak granulite-facies metamorphism. U–Pb zircon data record three
distinct age populations: 1,805 Ma (for the inherited core), ca. 500 Ma (oscillatory inner zone), as well as 24–25 Ma and
ca. 18 Ma (for the metamorphic rim). These new precision ages suggest that the peak metamorphic age for the HP granulite is
at ca. 24–25 Ma, and subsequent amphibolite-facies retrograde metamorphism occurred at ca. 18 Ma. 相似文献

Soil carbon sequestration plays an essential role in mitigating CO2 increases and the global greenhouse effect. This paper calculates soil organic carbon (SOC) storage changes during the course
of industrialization and urbanization in Yangtze Delta region, China, based on the data of the second national soil survey
(1982–1985) and the regional geochemical survey (2002–2005), with the help of remote sensing images acquired in periods of
1980, 2000, 2005. The results show that soils in the top 0–20 and 0–100 cm depth in this region demonstrate the carbon sink
effect from the early 1980s to the early 2000s. The SOC storage in 0–20 cm depth has resulted in increase from 213.70 to 238.65 Tg,
which corresponds to the SOC density increase from 2.94 ± 1.08 to 3.28 ± 0.92 kg m−2, and mean carbon sequestration storage and rate are 1.25 Tg a−1, 17.14 g m−2 a−1, respectively. The SOC storage in 0–100 cm depth has resulted in increase from 690.26 to 792.65 Tg, which corresponds to
the SOC density increase from 9.48 ± 4.22 to 10.89 ± 3.42 kg m−2, and mean carbon sequestration storage and rate are 5.12 Tg a−1, 70.32 g m−2 a−1, respectively. Urban area in Yangtze Delta region, China, increased more than 3,000 km2 and the urban growth patterns circled the central city region in the past 20 years. The SOC densities in 0–20 cm depth decrease
gradually along urban–suburban–countryside and the urban topsoil is slightly enriched with SOC. Compared to the data of the
second national soil survey in the early 1980s, the mean SOC density in urban area increased by 0.76 kg m2, or up 25.85% in the past 20 years. With the characteristics of SOC storage changes offered, land-use changes, farming system
transition and ecological city construction are mainly attributed to SOC storage increases. Because of lower SOC content in
this region, it is assumed that the carbon sink effect will go on in the future through improved soil management. 相似文献
