The effect of a helical magnetic field on the oscillations and the stability of a homogeneous self-gravitating rotating cylinder is investigated. The axial field has a tendency to stabilise long wave numbers and to destabilise small wave numbers so that maximum instability occurs for a finite wave number. If the toroidal and the axial component of the field have the same sign, the instability associated with the toroidal field can be removed by the rotation or by the axial field. Rotational instability is reduced but cannot removed by the field. If the components of the field have the opposite sign, rotational instability is increased. The maximum growth rate of the magnetic instability is reduced by a small axial field and tends to a finite value for large axial fields.  相似文献

The theory for investigating the equilibrium and stability of a uniformly rotating gaseous system with a prevalent magnetic field is developed by using the virial tensor approach. Most of the discussion in this paper depends on the assumption that on the surface of the system, the magnetic field is zero. In Appendix A, however, we have considered the case in which the surface magnetic field is non-zero.We have obtained the nine modes of oscillations, grouped into the transverse shear, toroidal and pulsation modes. From this analysis have also found the conditions under which the sequence of a uniformly rotating axially symmetric configuration in the presence of a magnetic field should have a point of bifurcation, that is, a point where objects with genuine triplanar symmetry branch off. This condition is also generalized in the Appendix to include the effects of differential rotation and non-zero surface magnetic field.Applications to the cosmogonic fission problem, the study of the pulsation of rotating magnetic stars and some radio astrophysical problems are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The spatial organization of the observed photospheric magnetic field, as well as its relation to the polarity of the interplanetary field, have been studied using high resolution magnetograms from Kitt Peak National Observatory. Systematic patterns in the large scale field have been found to be due to contributions from both concentrated flux and more diffuse flux. It is not necessary to assume, as has often been done in previous studies, that there is a weak background solar magnetic field causing the large-scale patterns in the photosphere, although the existence of such a field cannot be excluded. The largest scale structures in the photosphere correspond to the expected pattern at the base of a warped heliomagnetic equator.The polarity of the photospheric field, determined on various spatial scales, correlates with the polarity of the interplanetary field, with the most significant correlation due to mid-latitude fields. However, because the interplanetary field is likely to be rooted in concentrated photospheric regions, rather than across an entire polarity region, both the strength and polarity of the field are important in determining the interplanetary field. Thus studies of the interplanetary field which are based on either instrumental or numerical averaging of fields in the solar photosphere are subject to serious inherent limitations.Analyses based on several spatial scales in the photosphere suggest that new flux in the interplanetary medium is often due to relatively small photospheric features which appear in the photosphere up to one month before they are manifest at the Earth. The evolution of the over-all photospheric pattern may be due to individual sub-patterns which have slightly different rotation properties and which alternate in their relative dominance of the interplanetary medium.  相似文献

The growth of weak MHD discontinuities have been studied in a radiation induced flow field at very high temperature. Growth and decay properties of weak MHD discontinuities have been discussed under the influences of time-dependent gasdynamic field, the radiation field and the magnetic field with finite electrical conductivity. The effects of thermal radiation and conduction of the global behaviour of weak MHD discontinuities have been studied under a quasi-equilibrium and quasi-isotropic hypothesis of the differential approximation to the radiative heat transfer equation. It is shown that the existence of the time-dependent radiation field gives rise to a radiation induced wave which has a negligibly small effect on the non-relativistic flow properties of the gasdynamic field. It is also shown that the radiation stresses resist the steepening tendency of a compressive weak wave and help in stabilizing it whereas the thermal conduction effects counteracts to destabilize it. It is found that under radiation effects the shock formation is either disallowed or delayed. The two cases of diverging waves and converging waves have been studied separately to answer a particular question as to when a shock discontinuity or a coustic will be formed or disallowed under curvature effects.  相似文献

The equilibrium structure and oscillations of a partially degenerate standard model in the presence of a poloidal magnetic field have been studied. The magnetic field in the interior has been matched with an outside dipole field. The effect of magnetic field on the various structural parameters, e.g., mass, central condensation, moment of inertia, and oblateness has been computed for different values of the central degeneracy of the model. We have also studied the effect of magnetic field on radial oscillations of the configuration. A variational formulation is used to compute the changes in the frequency of radial mode of oscillation. It has been shown that the changes in frequency computed for various models using a two-parameter eigenfunction are in fair agreement with the values obtained by using the exact eigenfunction.  相似文献

Thermosolutal-convective instability of a composite plasma in a stellar atmosphere is considered. The effect of a variable horizontal magnetic field and the simultaneous effect of a uniform rotation and a variable horizontal magnetic field have been considered on the thermosolutal-convective instability. We have derived the sufficient conditions for the existence of monotonic instability. It is found that the criteria for monotonic instability hold good in the presence of a variable horizontal magnetic field as well as in the presence of a uniform rotation and a variable horizontal magnetic field.  相似文献

In this paper we have investigated the effect of magnetic field on an orthogonal Bianchi type-I inflationary cosmological model using the concept of Higgs field. It has been investigated that the expansion and inflation in the model increases as the magnetic field increases. To get inflationary model we have assumed a mass less scalar field with flat potential V(φ)that has flat region. 本文按常α无力场模型计算了1980年10月23日Boulder 2744活动区前导黑子的纵向磁场随高度的变化,并与用CIV 1548谱线观测得到的色球一日冕过渡区的磁场资料相结合,求得CIV 1548发射区的有效高度。这些结果与文献[4]中对同一黑子用势场模型推求的结果有很大差别。从而表明,势场和无力场在某些方面导致的结果是极不相同的。鉴于观测已表明活动区上空存在电流的事实,在活动区磁场的模拟中,特别是在强扭曲活动区磁场的计算中,应当避免采用势场,而尽可能采用无力场模型。  相似文献

Various forecast techniques have been analyzed with reference to solar activity cycle 24. Three prediction indices have been proposed: the intensity of the polar field, the mean field at the source surface, and a recurrence index of geomagnetic disturbances. As a rule, the forecast based on the polar field and extrapolation of local fields gives a height for cycle 24 that is smaller than that of cycle 23. The use of the recurrence index and the global field value leads us to the conclusion that cycle 24 will be medium high: the same as or somewhat higher than cycle 23.  相似文献

We have studied an electron-photon cascade in an isotropic photon field as one of the possible gamma-ray generation mechanisms in compact sources.A cascade in a monoenergetic photon field and in a field of the power-law spectrum is considered. Two types of interaction of cascade particles with the photon field are taken into account: the inverse Compton scattering of electrons and the photoproduction of electron-positron pairs by gamma-quanta. The cascade characteristics have been obtained by numerical solution of the kinetic equations. A quantitative and qualitative analysis is made of the main regularities of the cascade. We have established simple relations between the spectra of cascade particles and the parameters of the photon field and primary radiation. The magnetic field effect on the cascade characteristics is estimated. The results obtained are compared with the results of calculation of other investigators.In the first part of the paper we outline the method of solution and the results relating to the monoenergetic photon field. The theory of cascades in a photon field of the power-law spectrum and its application to the problem of gamma-rays in compact sources are discussed in the second part of the present paper.  相似文献

We have derived the closed system of covariant equations which describe the motion of quantum vortices regarded as a two-2dimensional polarized liquid. We have obtained the covariant expressions of the forces acting on the vortices; from the equilibrium condition of these forces we have deduced the equation satisfied by the velocity field of the fluid. It is shown that this velocity field depends on the friction coefficient, the density of vortices and the superconducting current. Consideration is given to the motion of electrons in a photon field of the monoenergetic or power-law spectrum under the conditions when the main mechanism of energy loss is the inverse Compton scattering by field photons. This process changes the primary spectrum of electrons and converts low-energy field photons to high-energy gamma-quanta for which the electron confinement region is assumed to be optically thin. The electron and gamma-ray spectra have been obtained in a wide energy interval including the Klein-Nishina and Thomson regions. A simple qualitative dependence of the solutions found on the field parameters and the primary spectrum of electrons has been established.The electron and gamma-ray spectra have been obtained by numerically solving the kinetic equation dependent on two variables: the energy of electrons and their path (or the time of motion) in a photon field. The results dramatically differ from the solution of the steady-state kinetic equation which depends only on the electron energy and is frequently used in the given problem.  相似文献

From Zeeman–Doppler images of the young, rapidly-rotating K0 dwarf AB Doradûs, we have created a potential approximation to the observed radial magnetic field and have evolved it over 30 d subject to the observed surface differential rotation , meridional flow and various diffusion rates. Assuming that the dark polar cap seen in Doppler images of this star is caused by the presence of a unipolar field, we have shown that the observed differential rotation will shear this field to produce the observed high-latitude band of unidirectional azimuthal field. By cross-correlating the evolved fields with the initial field each day we have followed the decay with time of the cross-correlation function. Over 30 d it decays by only 10 per cent. This contrasts with the results of Barnes et al. , who show that on this time-scale the spot distribution of He699 is uncorrelated. We propose that this is due to the effects of flux emergence changing the spot distributions.  相似文献

The thermosolutal instability of a partially-ionized plasma in the presence of a horizontal magnetic field is considered to include the frictional effect of collisions of ionized with neutrals. The sufficient conditions for non-existence of overstability are derived. The solute gradient and magnetic field introduce oscillatory modes in thermosolutal convection which were non-existent in their absence. The magnetic field and stable solute gradient are found to have stabilizing effects whereas collisional effect of ionized with neutrals is found to have destabilizing effect on thermosolutal instability of a partially ionized plasma.  相似文献

本文讨论了强磁场作用下非零温电子气体的化学势,分析了磁场作用下电子气体屏蔽势的变化;以核素33S为例,讨论了不同温度下,磁场对电子俘获率的影响,结果表明:在足够低的温度和密度下,足够强的磁场使电子俘获率显著降低,而就中子星表面存在的磁场强度(109-1013G)而言,磁场对其电子俘获率几乎没有影响.  相似文献

The F region evening electrodynamics in the equatorial region is characterized by a pre-reversal enhancement (PRE) in the zonal eastward electric field. Although the theoretical mechanisms for PRE are known, its variability, particularly day-to-day variability is not fully resolved. PRE is a large scale phenomenon driven by the F region dynamo after the sunset hours. This paper investigates whether the variability of the E region conductivity (particularly the one associated with the sporadic E, Es) has any influence on the F region dynamo and hence on the PRE of zonal electric field. Interestingly, ionosonde observations have indicated a higher occurrence of the blanketing type Es (Esb) over the low latitude on days with highly suppressed PRE of zonal electric field in comparison with the days with significantly larger PRE. Observational evidences presented in this paper suggests that the formation of the Esb in the evening hours is a sovereign process, not always controlled by the sheared F region vertical electric field of equatorial origin, mapping along the magnetic field line on to the low latitude E region. Model computations of the PRE suppression based on the measured Es densities have further substantiated the observational findings presented in this paper. These results clearly indicate that the low latitude Es has the potential to suppress the PRE of zonal electric field and possibly can play a vital role in explaining the PRE variability, particularly the day-to-day variability. Results have been discussed in light of earlier reports on PRE mechanisms and E-F region coupling processes.  相似文献

The magnitude of the equatorial electrojet signature, S, is a measure of its magnetic field at the location of the satellite recording the signature. The general features of the large quantity of the magnetic field data of the electrojet observed by the series of POGO satellites from 1967 to 1970 have been studied here. We have compared the position of the axis of the electrojet as indicated by the position of the minimum of the electrojet signature with the position of the dip equator on the Earth's surface, and we find no significant latitudinal shift of the electrojet axis from the dip equator on the Earth. Apart from the expected decrease of the magnetic field of the electrojet with altitude above the electrojet, we have found unexpected cases in which the field increases with altitude. More surprisingly, we have discovered that the magnitude of S oscillates with altitude having maxima at about 460km and 635km and minima at about 580km and 725km, with a mean wavelength of 160 ± 29 km. It is suggested that this could be caused by additional weak current layers flowing above the main electrojet at about 110 km altitude. It is also pointed out that Onwumechili's model based on a single current system of the equatorial electrojet predicts field oscillation with altitude. The model therefore shows that a field oscillating with altitude can also result from a single complicated system of current unaided by additional current layers.  相似文献

We have used Zeeman–Doppler maps of the surface field of the young, rapid rotator AB Dor  ( P rot=0.514 d)  to extrapolate the coronal field, assuming it to be potential. We find that the topology of the large-scale field is very similar in all three years for which we have images. The corona divides cleanly into regions of open and closed field. The open field originates in two mid-latitude regions of opposite polarity separated by about 180° of longitude. The closed field region forms a torus extending almost over each pole, with an axis that runs through these two longitudes. We have investigated the effect on the global topology of different forms of flux in the unobservable hemisphere and in the dark polar spot where the Zeeman signal is suppressed. The flux distribution in the unobservable hemisphere affects only the low-latitude topology, whereas the imposition of a unidirectional polar field forces the polar cap to be open. This contradicts observations that suggest that the closed field corona extends to high latitudes and leads us to propose that the polar cap may be composed of multipolar regions.  相似文献

The effects of rotation and magnetic field on the Couette flow of an electrically-conducting fluid between two parallel plates have been discussed when one of the plates has been set into impulsive motion. Under the assumption of negligible induced magnetic field and the applied field being fixed relative to the moving plate, the governing momentum equations have been solved exactly, and the expressions for velocity and skin friction have been presented. The variations of velocity and skin friction have been discussed for different parameter values. The decrease in velocity due to rotation and its increase due to magnetic field have been shown.  相似文献

In this paper self-similar solutions have been investigated for the propagation of axisymmetric radiative gasdynamic shocks caused by an explosion into an inhomogeneous ideal gas permeated by a current free azimuthal magnetic field. The effects of radiation flux and magnetic field together have been seen in the region of interest on the other flow variables. The total energy of the flow between the inner expanding surface and the shock is taken to be dependent on shock radius obeying a power law.
