Quantitative rock physics analyses were used to determine the lithology and pore fluid of a reservoir in the Niger Delta. Inaccurate prediction of lithology and pore fluid results in the inaccurate determination of other petrophysical properties and parameters such as porosity, permeability, and net pay. This research is to predict lithology and pore fluid using rock physics analysis. However, reservoir zones were also predicted. Density, compressional wave velocity, and shear wave velocity logs were used as input to calculate elastic parameters such as velocity ratio, Poisson’s ratio, and bulk modulus. The calculated velocity ratio log was used to differentiate between sand and shale. Poisson’s ratio and velocity ratio using Goodway interpretation template were carried out and used to delineate pore fluid content, gas sand, oil sand, and sandstone formation from crossplot analysis.  相似文献

This paper proposes an interpolation method based on a modified Kohonen artificial neural network, and is used to interpolate marine gravity data on a regular grid. This method combines accuracy comparable to that of kriging with a much shorter computing time than kriging. It is particularly efficient when both the size of the grid and the quantity of available data are large. Under some hypotheses similar to those of kriging with a trend, the unbiasedness and optimality of the method can be demonstrated. Comparison with kriging with a trend using marine gravity data shows similar results. Although neural interpolation is slightly less efficient, it is more robust outside of the marine data area.  相似文献

New geochemical, isotopic, and geochronological data and interpretations are presented for late Neoproterozoic intrusive carbonates and related rocks of southern Sinai, Egypt (northernmost Arabian–Nubian Shield). The Tarr carbonates are coarsely crystalline and related to explosive emplacement of hypabyssal and volcanic albitite at 605 ± 13 Ma. The carbonates associated with the albitites are divisible into two types: primary dolomitite and secondary breunneritite (Fe-rich magnesite). The dolomitite was clearly intrusive but differs from classic igneous carbonatites, containing much lower abundances of incompatible elements, such as REE, U, Th, Rb, Nb, Y, P, Sr, Zr, Ba, and total alkalies. The breunneritite is a secondary replacement of dolomitite, probably marking the roots of a vigorous hydrothermal system. Albitites show pristine abundances of major and trace elements and were not subjected to a major metamorphic overprint. They are relatively more fractionated, alkaline and related to within-plate A-type magmas, were emplaced in an extensional or non-compressive tectonic regime in the cupola of high-level A-type granite. Tarr albitites may represent residual magma remaining after near-total crystallization of an A-type granite pluton at depth, forcibly emplaced into the roof above the cooling pluton. The intrusive dolomitite exsolved from highly differentiated albitite melt, in the apical regions of a still-buried alkaline “A-type” granite pluton that was rich in CO2; these volatiles migrated upwards and towards the cooler margins of the magma body. Late NNE-SSW extension allowed a shallow-level cupola to form, into which albitite melts and carbonate fluids migrated, culminating in explosive emplacement of albitite breccia and intrusive carbonate. Isotopic compositions of Tarr dolomitite and albitite indicate these are consanguineous and ultimately of mantle origin. Magmatic volatiles fenitized the wall rock, while submarine hydrothermal activity transformed some of the dolomitite into breunneritite. Recognition of Tarr-type should encourage similar hypabyssal complex intrusions to be sought for in association with A-type granitic plutons elsewhere.  相似文献

A great deal of early-to-mid Early Cretaceous magmatic activities have been recorded in the Zhalantun area of Inner Mongolia,while the late Early to Late Cretaceous magmatic rocks have been barely reported(Guo et al.,2018;Zhang Xiangxin et al.,2017).At present,only a few Late Cretaceous magmatic activities were reported in the Arongqi area,such as volcanic rocks of the Gushanzhen Formation.However,the Gushanzhen Formation lacks accurate isotopic age,and contemporaneous intrusive rocks has not been reported yet.In this work,we collected the volcanic rocks from the Gushanzhen Formation and contemporaneous intrusive rocks in the Zhanlantun and nearby,and aim to figure out the formation ages of volcanic rocks of the Gushanzhen Formation and accompanied intrusive rocks by analyzing zircon U-Pb isotopes(Fig.1).  相似文献

The sign and the magnitude of the zeta potential must be known for many engineering applications. For clay soils, it is usually negative, but it is strongly dependent on the pore fluid chemistry. However, measurement of zeta potential time is time-consuming and requires special and expensive equipment. In this study, the prediction of zeta potential of kaolinite has been investigated by artificial neural networks (ANNs) and multiple regression analyses (MRAs). To achieve this, ANN and MRA models based on zeta potential measurements of kaolinite in the presence of salt and heavy metal cations at different pH values have been developed. The results of the models were compared with the experimental results. The performance indices, including coefficient of determination, root mean square error, mean absolute error, and variance, were used to assess the performance of the prediction capacity of the models developed in this study. The obtained indices make it clear that the constructed ANN models were able to predict zeta potential of kaolinite quite efficiently and outperformed the MRA models. Results showed that ANN models can be used satisfactorily to predict zeta potential of kaolinite as a rapid inexpensive substitute for laboratory techniques.  相似文献

A slightly acidic hot spring named "Female Tower"(t=73.5°C, pH=6.64) is located in the Jifei Geothermal Field, Yunnan Province, southwestern China. The precipitates in the hot spring are composed of large amounts of calcite, aragonite and sulfur. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) analyses reveal that the microbial mats were formed from various coccoid or rod-shaped filamentous microbes. Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) shows that the intracellular sulfur granules are commonly associated with these microbes. A culture-independent molecular phylogenetic analysis demonstrates that the majority of the bacteria in the spring are sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. In the spring water, H_2S concentration is up to 60 ppm, while SO_4~(2-) concentration is only about 10 ppm. We speculate that H_2S might derive from sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in this hot spring water, leading to the intracellular formation of sulfur granules. Meanwhile, this reaction increased the p H in the micronscale microdomains, which fosters the precipitation of calcium carbonate in the microbial mats. The results of this study indicate that the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria might play an important role in calcium carbonate precipitation in slightly acidic hot spring environments.  相似文献

This paper presents a new numerical program able to model syntectonic sedimentation. The new model combines a discrete element model of the tectonic deformation of a sedimentary cover and a process-based model of sedimentation in a single framework. The integration of these two methods allows us to include the simulation of both sedimentation and deformation processes in a single and more effective model. The paper describes briefly the antecedents of the program, Simsafadim-Clastic and a discrete element model, in order to introduce the methodology used to merge both programs to create the new code. To illustrate the operation and application of the program, analysis of the evolution of syntectonic geometries in an extensional environment and also associated with thrust fault propagation is undertaken. Using the new code, much more complex and realistic depositional structures can be simulated together with a more complex analysis of the evolution of the deformation within the sedimentary cover, which is seen to be affected by the presence of the new syntectonic sediments.  相似文献

Considering that urban areas may suffer more substantial losses than riparian farmlands during floods, diverting floodwater into riparian areas for temporal detention is expected to mitigate flood damage in downstream urban areas. In this study, an assessment has been conducted to evaluate the effect of flood mitigation through riparian detention in response to a changing climate in the Tou-Chien River basin of Taiwan. An integrated 1D–2D flow model was used to simulate the movement of flood wave in the main stream and the overbank flow inundating into the nearby lowlands. Based on the numerical simulation results, the flooding extents in the basin corresponding to different return periods of flood using existing flood prevention infrastructures were investigated. A detention strategy by lowering the levee along the riparian farmlands was proposed to avoid severe flooding in the densely populated urban areas of the basin. Research findings showed that the proposed detention measure can completely protect the downstream areas from overbank flooding when a flood having 20-yr period occurs, and can effectively alleviate the downstream flooding area from 27.4 to \(7.6\,\hbox {km}^{2}\) for a flood possessing 200-yr period.  相似文献

It is common practice in compositional data analysis to perform the log-ratio transformation in order to preserve sub-compositional coherence in the analysis. Correspondence analysis is an alternative approach to analyzing ratio-scale data and is often contrasted with log-ratio analysis. It turns out that if one introduces a power transformation into the correspondence analysis algorithm, then the limit of the power-transformed correspondence analysis, as the power parameter tends to zero, is exactly the log-ratio analysis. Depending on how the power transformation is applied, we can obtain as limiting cases either Aitchison’s unweighted log-ratio analysis or the weighted form called “spectral mapping”. The upshot of this is that one can come as close as one likes to the log-ratio analysis, weighted or unweighted, using correspondence analysis.  相似文献

The need for improved product quality in the aggregates industry is driving the search for greater automation in rock type identification. In practice, reflectance spectra in visible and near-infrared light may reliably be used for the classification of rock classes and their variants. Previous studies introduced statistical classification of six rock variants by means of infrared spectra. The present investigation extends these studies to cover twelve rock types and variants of worldwide economic importance. These were measured by visible and near-infrared light. Statistical classification of these spectra is highly challenging due to the high number of groups and the high dimensionality of the data. In functional data analysis, spectra are regarded as curves instead of vectors of characteristics. To obtain a compact form that is more susceptible to further analysis, the spectra are represented by a B-spline basis. Two functional versions of linear support vector machines and penalized functional discriminant analysis are considered for classification. The multiclass problem is addressed by margin trees and by considering all one-against-one classifications combined with a voting strategy for testing. Since classification error estimated by 5-fold cross-validation is very low, in particular for penalized discriminant analysis, we conclude that the rock types can be classified reliably.  相似文献

The mathematical properties of the normalized diffusive hydrograph allow for easy determination of intrinsic basin characteristics. These include lag times between storm events and peak flow, recession rate, and the total, temporally integrated flow volume, all in terms of a single parameter, the basin time constant “b”. This simple function displays surprising fidelity to measured hydrographs of springs and hundreds of streams and small rivers. We explain this fidelity by showing that the curvature of the theoretical hydrograph matches that of the natural hydrographs better than several alternate models, and by demonstrating that the simple hydrograph function can be integrated over a range of time constants (0 to b max ) to represent the hierarchy of flow paths of varying lengths that exist in real watersheds. Surprisingly, the unwieldy analytical results from this integration are almost numerically indistinguishable from a simple hydrograph using a single, suitably-weighted average for the time constant. The peak flow times are shifted slightly. The accuracy with which the simple hydrograph approximates the integrated results for hierarchies of hydrographs representing individual flow paths explains why the former can realistically describe the discharge behaviors of complex natural watersheds.  相似文献

Quantitative mineral resource assessments following the 3-part form rely on grade and tonnage models and probabilistic estimates of the number of undiscovered deposits. Assessments completed in Victoria, Australia, indicate that undiscovered mineral resources can be effectively estimated using grade and tonnage sub-models constructed using only medium- and large-tonnage deposits. Numbers of undiscovered deposits can be estimated on the basis of expert judgement or entirely by statistical means. Appropriate mathematical aggregation of individual expert views, expressed at interactive expert workshops, provides robust estimates of the number of undiscovered deposits. Underestimation of uncertainty, which is common in expert judgement, can be compensated by the statistical modification of individual interval estimates. In this study, the linear opinion pool was used as a simple and robust method of mathematical aggregation of multiple expert estimates of the number of undiscovered deposits. A general regression model, which estimates numbers of undiscovered deposits based on the size of the geologically permissive area and the median deposit tonnage, provided results generally compatible with those based on expert judgement or local deposit density models.  相似文献

This paper provides a brief overview of two linear inverse problems concerned with the determination of the Earth’s interior: inverse gravimetry and normal mode tomography. Moreover, a vector spline method is proposed for a combined solution of both problems. This method uses localised basis functions, which are based on reproducing kernels, and is related to approaches which have been successfully applied to the inverse gravimetric problem and the seismic traveltime tomography separately.  相似文献

A hierarchical geostatistical analysis is conducted on a high-resolution, multiscale hydraulic conductivity (ln K) map, created by scaling up an experimental stratigraphy. Unlike a previous study which evaluates ln K variograms within individual depositional environments, this study analyzes deposits (or samples) that incorporate multiple depositional environments. Based on conductivity cutoffs selected from a global ln K histogram, an indicator map is created to divide the deposits into 4 categories: sand, silty sand, clayey silt, and clay (Hierarchy-I). Based on facies and facies assemblage types selected using geological criteria, two more indicator maps are created at a higher hierarchy (Hierarchy-II) to divide the deposits into 14 units and 2 units, respectively. For each sample, its experimental ln K variogram is decomposed into 4 auto- and cross-transition component variograms. The decomposition characteristics are then evaluated against the underlying heterogeneity and specific division rule. The analysis reveals that: (1) ln K cutoffs (sand contents of the physical stratigraphy) can be used to distinguish the shifts in dominant deposition mode; (2) sample univariate modes depend on the choice of hierarchical division; (3) sample variograms exhibit smooth-varying correlation structures (exponential-like variograms are observed in samples with a large variance in mean facies length); (4) the decomposition characteristics are sensitive to the division based on conductivity cutoffs, but not sensitive to the division based on depositional environment (For all samples, with appropriate division, the sample variogram is closely approximated by the sum of the cross-transition component variograms.); and (5) at the Hierarchy-II level, the 2-unit division gives similar decomposition characteristics as the 14-unit division. For the select samples, parsimony in hierarchical division is achieved at the facies assemblage scale.  相似文献

Presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the soil and water is of serious environmental concern as they are carcinogenic in nature. The present study was carried out with an aim to identify the presence of PAHs in groundwater of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. This is an industrialised area where petrochemical storage tanks are located. Groundwater sampling was carried out in the years 2001, 2011 and 2012 to understand the variation in PAHs content in this area. Concentration of major ions, pH and EC were measured during the year 2001. Of the 24 groundwater samples collected in the year 2001, most of them were alkaline and 62.5 % were not permissible for drinking based on pH and EC, respectively. Influence of seawater was the major reason for the Na–Cl dominant nature of groundwater. TPH and PAHs analysis of groundwater carried out in 2001 and 2011, and physical examination of groundwater in 2012 indicate the increased level of contamination in the eastern part of the study area. The contamination in the eastern part persists because of the fact that groundwater is flowing towards the east and also due to the presence of petrochemical storage tanks near the coast. Thus this area is affected by PAHs pollution which has endured over the past 50 years. An underground storage tank that was functioning in this area was closed about 50 years ago and leakage of PAHs from this tank was reported in the year 1993. However, the present study indicates the decrease in the area of zone of pollution, possibly due to natural flushing of groundwater zone.  相似文献

Modeling fractured rocks with numerical methods requires some derived parameters, among which the fracture network connectivity and the size of the representative elementary volume (REV) are both of crucial importance. Percolation and REV analyses were made by the RepSim code. The program uses input parameters such as fractal dimension of the fracture midpoints (D c), length exponent (E) and relative dip (α r) data. For percolation analysis, the relative sizes of the largest percolation clusters have been calculated by stochastic realizations of the simulated fracture networks with different parameter triplets. Furthermore, fracture networks can be classified into three major types on the basis of their (E,D c,α r) parameters. For the REV calculations, the porosity of the generated fracture network was calculated. The derived REV size of a fracture network depends essentially on input parameters and shows a decreasing tendency with increasing D and E and vice versa. The method mentioned above was tested on both metamorphic samples of the Pannonian Basin and Variscan granitoid rocks of the Mórágy Complex. Percolation values predicted for the Mórágy granite are highly sensitive to alterations in the input parameters. The amphibolite bodies displayed a modeled fracture network with 80 to 90% of all fractures being interconnected, while the largest achievable percolation cluster size of gneiss is less than 10%. The REV size of the amphibolite is about 20 m as a result of connected fractures filling the whole body, while gneiss has lower porosity and higher REV (approximately 70 m).  相似文献

The recent morphological evolution of Macquarie Rivulet delta, Lake Illawarra, New South Wales, has been assessed from historical parish maps from 1834, 1892, 1916 and 1927 along with aerial photographs from 1938 to 2002. These images were digitised, georeferenced and analysed in a GIS framework. The 1834 sketch map could not be georeferenced and it was excluded from the calculation of delta progradation areas. Between 1892 and 1927 morphological changes were minimal, probably because the areas were not resurveyed between these map editions. A significant change in morphology between 1927 and 1938 reflects a change in source material from maps to aerial photographs. The research highlights that great care must be taken when utilising historical data. Major morphological changes observed between 1938 and 2002 included the development of a large crevasse splay in the 1960s to 1970s and the abandonment and infilling of the delta's previously active distributary channels. The research shows that the morphological changes observed on the delta can be related to both natural processes and anthropogenic modifications to the catchment and thus could be used in the development of catchment management plans.  相似文献

Egyptian beach ilmenite occurs in a relatively high content in the naturally highly concentrated superficial black sand deposits at specific beach zones in the northern parts of the Nile Delta at Rosetta. Microscopic study shows that the ilmenite occurs as fresh homogeneous black or heterogeneous multicoloured altered grains and exhibits three types (homogeneous, exsolved and altered) of ilmenite varieties. XRD data of ilmenite indicates their association with minor hematite and quartz, whereas leucoxene shows its association with Nb‐rutile, pseudorutile and hematite. Grain size distribution suggests a very fine sand size of >89% and 80% and a fine sand size of 10.5% and 18.3% for fresh and altered ilmenites, respectively. The density of fresh, altered ilmenite and leucoxene concentrates varies from 2.70, 2.50 to 2.40 ton/m3, suggesting a gradual decrease from high grade fresh to leucoxene and consistent with variation in magnetic susceptibility as a consequence of the leaching of iron. Mass magnetic susceptibility reveals 97.6% of ilmenite and 92% of the altered form are obtained at 0.20 and 0.48 ampere. Fresh ilmenite exhibits variable TiO2 (47.18%) and Fe2O3T (46.10%) with minor MnO, MgO and Cr2O3 (1.22, 1.10 and 0.51%). The altered ilmenite is higher in TiO2 (76.16%) and SiO2 (4.68%) and lower in Fe2O3T (14.45%), MnO, MgO and Cr2O3 (0.39, 0.52 and 0.11%) compared with the fresh form. Three concentrates of ilmenites (G1, G2 and G3) were prepared from crude ore using a Reading cross belt magnetic separator under different conditions, revealing a gradual increase of TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3 and CaO accompanied by a decrease of Fe2O3T, MgO and Cr2O3 with repetition of the separation processes. The occurrence of wet-snow avalanches is, in general, poorly understood. For 20 years (winters of 1975–1976 to 1994–1995), the avalanche activity has been observed in the Dischma valley near Davos (Eastern Swiss Alps). The study area comprises a large starting zone of north-easterly aspect (2,300 m a.s.l.) with several avalanche paths. We have analyzed the occurrence data in combination with meteorological and snowpack data collected at an elevation of 2,090 m a.s.l. During the 20-year observation period, almost 800 wet-snow avalanches were observed, about 4.5 times more loose snow avalanches than slab avalanches. Considering both types of avalanches jointly, snow depth, precipitation and air temperature showed the highest correlation with avalanche activity. Most loose snow avalanches occurred when air temperature was high and/or after a precipitation period. Slab avalanches occurrence was primarily related to warm air temperatures and snowpack properties such as the isothermal state and the existence of capillary barriers. Radiation did not show up as a significant variable. The results suggest that in a transitional snow climate wet-snow avalanches are, as dry snow avalanches, often related to precipitation events, and that wet slab instability strongly depends on snowpack properties in relation to warming of the snowpack and melt water production.  相似文献
