Twenty-five new heat flow measurements made in the Gulf of California are presented. All the values except two at the mouth of the Gulf and two in the Sal si Puedes basin are high. The values ranged from 2.0 to greater than 10 μcal/cm2 sec (82 to > 420 mW/m2) with eight values greater than 5.2 (210 mW/m2). Due to high rates of sedimentation throughout the Gulf, the actual heat flow, in many cases, may be up to 25% greater than that recorded.Most of the heat flow stations are concentrated in the Farallon and Guaymas basins and show a marked increase towards the central deeps, where new crust is believed to be forming. The heat flow values in the Farallon basin show a sharp peak 10–15 km southeast of the central depression while those in the Guaymas basin peak in the depression.The heat flow profiles across the Guaymas and Farallon basins are remarkably similar to those observed on other well sedimented spreading centers such as the northern portion of the Explorer trough. Thus they may provide evidence that the crust is being created by an axially symmetric intrusion process with a major loss of heat due to hydrothermal circulation. The absence of magnetic anomalies in the Gulf has been attributed to the supposed presence of large grains in the intruded basalt. Large grains form by the slow cooling of the basalt under a layer of sediment. Prominent magnetic anomalies have been observed on the northern portion of the Explorer trough. Observational data suggest that the thermal processes at this ridge axis and the center of the Farallon basin are identical. We suggest that further careful study is needed in the Gulf before the slow cooling model is accepted as an explanation for the attenuation of the magnetic anomalies.  相似文献

Isotopic dilution technique and mass spectrometry are used in order to measure isotopic compositions and concentrations of some particular elements on the Oklo sample KN50-3548, which are interesting for describing the nuclear reaction. These analyses give coherent results leading to the determination of the following parameters: neutron fluence, spectrum index, total number of fissions relative to uranium, and percentage of238U and239Pu fissions. From the percentage of plutonium fissions, the duration of the nuclear reaction is estimated to be 800,000 years. The age of the nuclear reaction is measured from the lead analysis and from the number of uranium fissions; these two determinations give respectivelyd = 1730 ± 10m.y. andd = 2000 ± 100m.y. The second method, based on the assumption that uranium and rare earths have not migrated, could mean that the nuclear reaction might be older than the Francevillian. It is also shown that no contamination by natural elements has occurred for lead, rare earths, palladium and rare gases, after the reaction.  相似文献

After recalling briefly the major geological characters of the Nepal Himalayas and the global evolution of the Himalayan chain we stress the importance of three dominant and remarkably constant tectonic features in this chain: (1) a huge overthrust is seen everywhere to entail a visible throw of more than 100 km; (2) a shallow dipping cleavage develops over an observable thickness in excess of 15 km; and (3) in the underthrusting slab the stretching lineation keeps a similar direction constantly perpendicular to the local trend of the chain.We suggest that these features, especially the cleavage, can be explained in terms of a simple mechanical model, namely simple shear on a crustal scale. This clearcut case could be used as a model for the origin of flattish cleavages in many orogens. After discussing other modes of formation for such cleavages (diapiric intrusion, extension) we show that the Himalayan model could apply to other chains.  相似文献

A method is established for computing the daily potential evapotranspirations of an entire hydrographic basin. It is based on the energy balance method. Its particularity lies in the fact that the daily values of the transfer factor between the evaporation of a virtual free water surface and the evapotranspiration of a vegetation cover are determined as a function of meteorological variables by means of a precise analytical expression.The potential evapotranspirations computed by this method are in very good accordance with the potential evapotranspirations deduced from water balances. Five watersheds in Belgium were chosen for testing the method.The daily values of the numerous meteorological elements which are taken into account by the computer method and the corresponding values of the potential evapotranspirations of different natural surfaces are grouped in two tables given as examples. These ones show how the transfer factors and the potential evapotranspirations of different natural surfaces react to the complex interactions between the different meteorological elements and namely to the heat transfer between surface and ground.  相似文献

A method has been developed that allows temporal changes in tectonic force during rift basin formation to be inferred from observed tectonic subsidence curves and has been applied to the Gulf of Lions (the Provençal Basin) and the Valencia Trough in order to gain some understanding of the dynamical aspects of back-arc basin rifting in the western Mediterranean Sea. Two distinct tectonic force regimes active at different times during the evolution of each of these back-arc basins are identified. The first, which can be seen in both basins, is characterized by tensional forces that gradually abate with time to vanish some ~ 20 my after the onset of rifting. The magnitude of tectonic force required to initiate the rifting process is significantly greater in the Valencia Trough than in the Provençal Basin. Subsequently, the dynamic development of these back-arc basins differs. In the Provençal Basin, there is a renewal of force, with extensional deformation concentrated in the central part of the rift whereas, in the Valencia Trough, the second tectonic force regime is inferred to be one that causes compression that subsequently relaxes. Such temporal patterns of tectonic force are interpreted to be related to the causative driving processes, allowing constraints to be placed on the transient interaction between the overriding and subducting plates in a back-arc setting. The models also allow inferences to be made about the rheological structure of the lithosphere. A significant variation of initial crustal thickness is inferred for the Provençal Basin but not for the Valencia Trough. In both basins, a wet rheology is required in order to initiate rifting given currently accepted bounds on tectonic force magnitudes; adoption of a dry rheology leads to insufficiently high strain rates for significant lithosphere extension in both cases.  相似文献

Data reduction and signal decomposition techniques have been applied to a large bio-physical remotely sensed dataset covering the decade 1997–2007. The aim was the estimation of the spatial (basin and sub-basin scales) and temporal (seasonal and interannual) variability of sea level anomalies and chlorophyll-a concentration in the Algero-Provençal Basin, as well as the study of their covariability. Empirical orthogonal functions, wavelet analysis, singular value decomposition and correlation maps have been successfully used to individuate the patterns of (co)variability of the investigated fields. The seasonal variability of the phytoplanktonic biomass is divided in two distinct modes, timewise and spacewise separated. Positive interannual events are related to anomalies in 1999 and 2005, while the main (negative) anomaly is that of summer 2003, associated to the European 2003 heatwave. The analysis of the sea level anomalies shows a minimum in the formation of anticyclonic Algerian eddies during that period. The largest anticorrelation between sea level anomalies and phytoplanktonic biomass is found in the central zone of the basin, suggesting a clear biological response to the shoaling/deepening of the isopycnae and so to the nutrient injection into the euphotic layer. The analysis suggests that the driver of the variability of the nutricline depth in this central area is the displacement (seasonal) of the North Balearic Front and the formation/action of the frontal eddies.  相似文献

A survey of the southern part of the Balearic Basin was flown in 1971 at a height of 600 m. The results of a survey of the northern part, flown at a height of 3000 m, which was previously published, have been downward continued to a height of 600 m. The resulting composite map shows well defined low amplitude (100 gammas) magnetic lineations of the Vine et Matthews' type offset by fracture zones. The lineated zones are bounded by large quasi-circular anomalies on the edge of possibly “continental” non magnetic zones. The results define a complex kinematic pattern of the opening of the Balearic Basin, in terms of plate tectonics.  相似文献

The decrease of density contrast in sedimentary basins may be approximated by a quadratic function. A sedimentary basin may be viewed as a number of prisms placed in juxtaposition. Equations in closed form for the gravity anomalies of 3D and 2½ D prismatic models are derived. Approximate equations for these models are also derived for rapid calculations. Efficient methods are developed for anomaly calculation by an appropriate use of the exact and approximate equations, and hence, for 3D and 2½ D modelling. The depths to the basement are adjusted iteratively by comparing the calculated anomalies with the observed anomalies. These methods are applied for analysis of the residual anomaly map of the Los Angeles Basin, California.  相似文献

Microscopic investigations have been done on the chondrites Sena and Nadiabondi (H5, not shocked), Ste. Marguerite en Comines (H4, very slightly shocked), Allegan (H5, slightly shocked). Only in such cases can the matrix be easily observed and compared to those of type 3 chondrites. The <100 μm debris found in types 4 and 5 that we have observed are not the result of the metamorphism of type 3 fines.The abundance of tiny debris is in direct relation with the intensity of the shock though this shock was insufficient to provoke either the induration of the stones or a significant loss of rare gases. The bulk of the fines are the result of local disaggregation of the most brittle parts from chondrules and fragments.A low-temperature matrix has not been observed in these meteorites but only in H3 chondrites, as a coating around the chondrules. The accretion modelists should take into account the absence or the scarcity of fine particles in their calculations.  相似文献

The measurement of the176Lu/175Lu ratio in the Oklo uranium ore zones where nuclear reactions have been identified, can be related to the average equilibrium temperature of the neutrons at the time of the nuclear reactions; indeed, the effective neutron capture cross section of the isotope176Lu is particularly sensitive to temperature. A simple model has been developed to calculate the temperature. The results obtained on seven samples from three reactor zones are presented. From six samples an average value of280 ± 50°C is obtained, the corresponding integrated neutron flux τ varies from 0.06 × 1020 to 6 × 1020 n/cm2 and176Lu/175Lu from 0.0254 to 0.0054. From one sample a very high temperature is obtained:T > 1000°C, τ = 4.4 × 1020n/cm2,176Lu/175Lu= 0.0032. The validity of this result is sharply dependent on the relative stability of uranium and the rare earths during and after the nuclear reactions; so, it can be noticed that the two samples giving the highest temperatures present a surprisingly high enrichment in heavy rare earth elements.  相似文献

The paleomagnetic data from the margins of the Valencia Trough are derived from Mesozoic and Tertiary rocks from the Balearic Islands, Catalan Coastal Ranges and Eastern Iberian Chain. These rocks are affected by a complex structural evolution consisting of an initial compressive stage followed by one of extension. Cenozoic paleomagnetic data indicate that rotations occurred during the Paleogene compression and before the extension started (Lower Miocene) in the Catalan Coastal Ranges. In contrast, in the Balearic Islands the rotations are synchronous to both compressional (Late Oligocene-Middle Miocene) and extensional tectonics (post-Middle Miocene). In both areas the Mesozoic limestones are remagnetized. In the Catalan Coastal Ranges they display the same direction as the Paleogene syn-compressive deposits whereas in the Balearic Islands they conform with Lower Miocene (Burdigalian) syncompressive rocks. It is concluded that the processes of remagnetization that affected eastern Iberia are related to a compressive rather than an extensional tectonics regime  相似文献

Sea floor hydrothermal activity in the Guaymas Basin, Gulf of California, is quite different from that associated with ridge crest spreading centers. Injection of hydrothermal fluids occurs in the bottom of a semi-enclosed basin and water column anomalies produced by this activity increase to much higher values than in the open ocean. In the Guaymas Basin the hydrothermal venting generates large clouds of fine suspended particulate matter (SPM) 100–300 m above active mounds and chimneys. These hydrothermal clouds have potential temperature anomalies of about 0.010–0.020°C, are enriched in dissolved silica, particulate manganese, and depleted in dissolved oxygen relative to areas away from the vents. The particulate manganese values increase from about 3 nmol/kg at ~ 1000 m, well above the enclosing topography of the subsill basin, to 100–150 nmol/kg in the clouds of SPM and in the bottom nepheloid layer. The particulate Mn in the hydrothermal clouds appears to originate from both direct precipitation of dissolved Mn2+ injected by the vents and entrainment of Mn-rich SPM in the rising hydrothermal plumes. Injection of silica-rich vent fluids into the basin bottom waters produces a silica anomaly of 10–15 μmol relative to the other deep basins of the Gulf of California. Spillover of Guaymas Basin deep water produces a silica plume just above the basin sill depth which is detectable to the mouth of the Gulf. A simple two-endmember mixing model indicates that the deep waters of the Guaymas Basin contain approximately 0.1% hydrothermal fluid. Oxygen anomalies associated with the hydrothermal clouds are on the order of 5 μmol relative to regions away from active vents. The basin as a whole shows a depletion in oxygen of about 13 μmol relative to the other deep basins of the Gulf. The mixing model shows that this oxygen consumption can be explained by the oxidation of dissolved sulfide and methane injected by the hydrothermal vents. Box models of the deep basins of the southern Gulf of California indicate that the Guaymas Basin has a significantly higher source term for dissolved silica and sink term for dissolved oxygen than the other basins. The calculated flux of hydrothermal fluids into the Guaymas Basin is 10–12 m3/s.  相似文献

通过对东海陆架盆地西部地震和重磁资料的综合地球物理解释,对雁荡低凸起展布形态进行了细致刻画,凸起呈NE方向不连续展布于瓯江凹陷和闽江凹陷之间,长约170 km、宽约15~50 km.地震资料揭示雁荡低凸起上广泛发育了侏罗纪与白垩纪地层,厚度约为500~1500 m,展布面积约5000 km2,局部缺失中生界地层.凸起两侧中生代盆地结构差异明显,西侧瓯江凹陷为典型的断陷盆地,东断西超、断裂发育,半地堑、掀斜断块等中生界构造样式发育;东侧闽江凹陷为坳陷型盆地,断裂、火成岩不发育,挤压背斜、断背斜、反转构造等中生界构造样式发育.自由空间重力异常图与剩余重力异常图上,凸起表现为一系列NE向团块状重力高值区,而磁力异常ΔT图上则表现为深部磁场强度低的特征,火成岩影响部位可见磁力高值异常.综合凸起及邻域重磁震、莫霍面深度等地质地球物理资料,认为雁荡低凸起为一元古界组成的古隆起,区别于东部的台北低凸起.同时,结合区域构造演化及沉积特征,推测侏罗纪时期雁荡低凸起与浙闽隆起区可能连为一体,晚白垩世近东西向伸展作用下浙闽隆起发生裂陷进而形成了雁荡低凸起.  相似文献

The fit between calculated and observed magnetic anomalies from slow-spreading centers is improved when allowing for a transition zone between two inversely magnetized blocks. In this paper it is shown that these models are very easily computed by choosing a fictitious spreading rate which is slower than the real spreading rate and by changing the distance scale appropriately. With these slow fictitious spreading rates, the models are very sensitive to the relative position of the successive inversions and could be used to adjust these positions in the magnetic time scales.  相似文献

We present an aeromagnetic survey performed in the summer of 1973 in the southwestern Mediterranean, over the Alboran Sea and part of the Algéro-Provençal basin; data acquisition and reduction are described and maps of both the total field intensity and anomalies are given. The anomaly map is described in detail and its implications for the tectonic evolution of the two deep basins included in the surveyed area are discussed. We propose that both basins opened simultaneously along a NNW-SSE direction, and that the Alboran basin was later a site of compression, which led to the formation of the Alboran ridge.  相似文献

滇西北宾川盆地是发育于红河断裂和程海断裂交汇处的晚新生代张扭断陷盆地,该区活动断裂发育且历史地震比较活跃.对宾川盆地及邻区进行高精度浅层和上地壳精细结构研究,有助于深入认识该区主要发震构造的深浅部特征.基于2017年在宾川盆地及其附近开展的为期2个月的密集台阵观测数据,我们对该区96个小震共拾取了117221条初至P波和5475条初至S波震相,并利用simul2000开展了地震重定位和体波层析成像研究.结果表明:(1)小震活动主要集中在宾川盆地东缘断裂的弧形转折部位,并在洱海南侧呈现沿北东向断裂的条带状分布现象,反映了区域上近南北向至北东向断裂是主要控震构造,其次是北西向断裂带.(2)0 km的速度分布与区域地形有很好的对应关系.山地呈现高速异常,宾川盆地呈现低速异常.从3 km至9 km,高低速分界与断层有很好的对应,并且越往深部,近南北向至北北东向的宾川盆地东缘断裂在上地壳构造的控制作用越明显.(3)上地壳层析成像结果同时揭示了宾川盆地东缘断裂的三维形态变化在空间上呈现出南北部倾角大、中部倾角缓的变化特征,可能与区域地块的旋转变形过程有关.(4)综合高精度浅层速度结构和地震重定位结果可知,区域上的近南北向至北北东向断裂正逐步取代北西向构造,成为主要的区域分界断裂和控震构造.新的研究结果为深入理解该区的主要控震构造及其深部结构特征提供了重要依据.  相似文献

An experimental study is reported on the distributions of trace amounts of Rb and Cs between some trioctahedral micas and a hydrothermal solution at 600°C and 1000 bars. The equilibrium constant KXmin = (X/K)aq/(X/K)min varies considerably with the composition of micas. KCsmin is equal to 4.2 for phlogopite of theoretical composition, whereas it becomes equal to 8 for a mica close to eastonite. It reaches up to 17 for a mica in which Mg is largely substituted by Al. In annite, Fe(II) analogue of phlogopite, KCsmin becomes equal to 1.8. With Rb, the variations of the equilibrium constant are smaller than with Cs. KRbmin is 0.65 for phlogopite and increases up to 1.9 for a more aluminous mica. It is 0.44 for annite.The distributions depend very much on the ratios Mg/Fe and Si/Al of the trioctahedral micas. Consequences in geothermometrical interpretation of alkali trace element distributions in natural rocks are considered.  相似文献

介绍了高精度航磁调查在西天山东段的应用效果.在高精度航磁图上,展现出多个不同磁场背景及磁异常特征区,它们是不同构造、岩浆活动、地层及岩性分布的综合反映.该区不仅区域磁场特征明显,而且局部异常信息也极为丰富.在最新的高精度航磁图上,已知铁矿异常特征明显,为矿区外围勘探和同类地区寻找新的铁矿提供了依据.利用高精度航磁资料,新发现了五十余处铁矿异常,在2007年进行了地面查证的5处异常中,有4处见矿.这些新的铁矿异常的成功发现不仅带来了巨大的经济效益,也为今后利用高精度航磁测量在类似地区进行找矿积累了经验.  相似文献

This paper presents aeromagnetic images for the Chhattisgarh basin region, in Central India, to provide a new window on Precambrian basement geology and structure. On the basis of aeromagnetic patterns, the Chhattisgarh basin is sub-divided into a northern low (negative) anomaly zone and a southern high (positive) anomaly zone. The northern portion of the main Chhattisgarh basin has been further divided into two subbasins, the Hirri sub-basin in the west, and Baradwar sub-basin in the east. A prominent negative anomaly delineates a NW-SE trending greenstone belt separating these sub-basins. Positive magnetic anomalies delineate the extent of the Dongargarh granite and equivalents, while the weak magnetic anomaly in the southeast of the Dongargarh granite and equivalents reflect granulite gneisses of the Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt. By applying the reduced-to-the-equator filter we enhanced the possible magnetic sources and structural lineaments within the Chhattisgarh basin. A new sketch map of structural elements was then compiled from aeromagnetic interpretation over the Chhattisgarh basin area. It includes possible faults, folds and an inferred lithological boundary.  相似文献

This paper examines the physics of observed non-Gaussian sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly variability in the Gulf Stream system in a recently developed stochastic framework. It is first shown from a new high-resolution observational data set that the Gulf Stream system is very clearly visible as a band of negative skewness all the way from Florida, over Cape Hatteras, to the central North Atlantic. To get an idea about the detailed non-Gaussian variability along the Gulf Stream, probability density functions are calculated at several locations. One important observational result of this study is that the non-Gaussian tails of SST variability in the Gulf Stream system follow a power-law distribution. The study then shows that the observed non-Gaussianity is consistent with stochastic advection of SST anomalies in an idealized zonal current. In addition, stochastic advection is compatible with the observed northward eddy heat flux in the Gulf Stream, providing a new dynamical view at the heat balance in strong currents.  相似文献
