A system for obtaining high-precision radial velocities of solar-type stars by spectral cross-correlation has been established at the Mt John University Observatory. The use of a fibre-feed between the telescope and échelle spectrograph has enabled a stability such that we can achieve a precision of better than 50 m s–1.A programme of radial-velocity observations of 29 southern solar-type stars—of which two are IAU radial velocity standard stars—is under way with the prime objective being a search for low-mass companions to the stars. Ten further IAU radial-velocity standard stars are also being monitored.  相似文献

In a series of papers, the equilibrium configurations of highly rotating fluid bodies have been derived. The deformation of these inhomogeneous self-gravitating fluid, of arbitrary internal structure are due to centrifugation potential. These level surfaces are expressed in terms of fourth-order sectorial harmonics.In this paper, the main equations of the problem — such as the surface of the distorted body, the gravitational potential at an arbitrary point and the disturbing potential — have been expanded to the fourth-order in terms of the even-order sectorial harmonics.This work will hereafter be referred to as Paper I.  相似文献

The influences of the shock thickness and Alfven waves on the particle acceleration by diffusive shock waves are numerically studied through solving one-dimensional diffusive equation including the second-order Fermi effect. It is shown that the spectral index of the energetic particles strongly depends on the shock thickness. For example, the spectral index increases from 2.1 to 3.7 in the low energy range of 3—10 MeV and from 2.5 to 5.0 in the high energy range of 20—60 MeV as the thickness increases. The spectral index decreases from 4.3 to 3.1 as the particle injection energy increases. The spectral index decreases from 4.0 to 1.8 at the quasi-steady stage with the enhancement of the compression ratio from 2 to 4. The results indicate that under the influence of Alfven waves, the energetic particle spectrum at lower energy becomes flat and the spectral index decreases from 2.5 to 0.6 in the low energy range of 3—10 MeV and from 11.6 to 5.0 in the high energy range of 20—60 MeV. At the same time, the turning point energy reaches 19.6 MeV. The spectral index decreases from 5.8 to 2.9 as the energy density of Alfven waves increases. All these results are basically consistent with the theoretical models, as well as the observations of typical energetic particle events.  相似文献

We establish the solution of the ninth order — in masses — canonical J-S equations of motion by Hori-Lie technique — i.e., by expressing the initial Poincaré canonical variables as functions of the new variables through the Hori-Lie canonical transformation. Based on fieldwork and terrace ages, which were determined using 14C, TL and paleosol stratigraphy, a general model was established for the development of the Yellow River terrace system. The ages for the terraces and valley flats of the Yellow River system are T6—1.67–0.85 Ma BP, T5—0.85–0.47 Ma BP, T4—0.47–0.10 Ma BP, T3—0.10–0.007 Ma BP, T2—7.0–0.7 ka BP, T1—0.7–0.3 ka BP, the higher valley flat—0.3–0.15 ka BP and the lower valley flat 0.15–0 ka BP, respectively. Each terrace or valley flat and corresponding paleo-valley represents a river erosion/deposition cycle. Using this model and selected geomorphic parameters of terraces and paleo-valleys from 10 typical cross sections of Luohe River, a tributary of the Yellow River, an attempt is made here to estimate paleo-river erosion since the Pleistocene on the Loess Plateau.  相似文献

On the basis of observational data (Breger, 1979), a radial pulsation mode of 83 Delta Scuti stars is estimated in two ways. These stars can pulsate in four lowest modes—F, 1H, 2H, 3H— and, perhaps, in 4H and 5H. Our earlier suggestion—that the apparent heterogeneity of these objects in both the period-luminosity plane and the period-frequency distribution may be explained by means of pulsations in various modes—is confirmed. Semi-empirical period-luminosity relations for the four lowest modes are derived and the semi-empirical period ratios are compared with the theoretical ones.  相似文献

We use optical and infrared imaging data of a complete hard X-ray selected sample of AGN to investigate the host galaxies of nearby Seyfert 1 nuclei. We disentangle the emission due to the unresolved point source and the resolved host galaxy by means of luminosity profile fitting. The stellar colours in the nucleus are redder inB — V andV — K than in normal spiral bulges or current stellar evolutionary models, probably due to dust obscuration.J — H colour is quite normal butH — K usually very red, probably indicating a large contribution from reradiating hot dust to the IR colours. No significant difference in IR colours oi the stellar component is found with respect to a comparison sample of Liners and starbursts, except that the reradiating dust in Seyferts tends to be hotter and lie closer to the nucleus.B — V colour gets slightly bluer towards the nucleus, whereasV — K andJ — K have red gradients.B — V andJ — K gradients are not correlated and are likely to be caused by different mechanisms. There is a clear correlation between the AGN and host luminosity. Finally, we present optical colour ratio maps of two Seyfert nuclei, NGC 3227 and NGC 7469. The blue, ringlike or elongated structure in the maps and its correspondence with molecular CO geometry is interpreted as evidence for circumnuclear star formation in these AGN.  相似文献

The first image under the flow of the restricted three-body problem of the pq resonant strips — that appear in the study of the pq resonant orbits — do not have, in general, intersection with the strip. An attempt is made to demonstrate the possibility of the existence of one more layer—pinchrosphere—in the structure of atmospheres of late-type stars—later than G5. Pinchrosphere is the coolest layer with very low electron temperature, 5500K, it is located on the photosphere and near the inner boundary of the chromosphere. Practically all elements in pinchrosphere, particularly hydrogen and magnesium, are in neutral state. The main physical parameters of the pinchrosphere are derived.  相似文献

In this work a model has been proposed to explain how the nucleus of a Galaxy can accumulate mass and becomes supermassive — ultimately giving way to gravitational instability leading to an explosion in the nucleus. The process may be repeated many times during the life-span of a Galaxy. The mass shed by the evolved stars populating the central region of the Galaxy can be attracted toward the nuclear core by gravitational pull. Since the incident gas possesses rotational velocity, the centrifugal repulsion of the gas may balance the gravitational pull of the nucleus; thus infall of mass into the nucleus will ordinarily be inhibited. But dissipative agents — such as the prevailing magnetic field and the viscosity of gas — may be sufficient to destroy the rotational velocity of the incident gas and keep the accretion process efficient. The correlation between rotational velocity of gas and its distance from the centre of the Galaxy has been deduced. The radial equation of motion has been solved and the time-scale during which the nucleus accumulates mass sufficient for explosion, has been estimated.  相似文献

A method for solving the force-free surface problem for the pulsar magnetosphere is outlined. The given formulation is extended to an oblique rotator problem. Since we solve equation subject to the boundary values—i.e., the boundary element method (BEM) developed in Paper I is used—we can directly determine the force-free surface. Another merit of this method rests in the fact that we only use a two-dimensional grid, in spite of the problem being three-dimensional. A numerical calculation has been performed to confirm the solution by the particle method (Krause-Polstorff and Michel, 1985).  相似文献

The morphological characteristics of craters, the depth/diameter ratio of which is between 0.12 and 0.15, are discussed. Many small secondary craters belong to that class—results of low velocity impacts—as well as young craters created by low angle impacts. The results of an investigation of IR (IRAS) observations of 58 O—B—A—F stars of different luminosity classes, which are mainly members of various associations, are presented. The color indices of these stars are determined and two-color diagrams are constructed. The emission excesses at 12 and 25 mm (E 12 and E 25) are also compared with the absorption A1640 of UV radiation. It is concluded that 24 stars (of the 58 investigated) are disk systems of the Vega type, to which Vega = N 53 also belongs. Eight known stars of the Vega type are also given in the figures for comparison. The remaining 34 stars may have gas—dust shells and/or shell—disks. The IR emission excesses of the 34 investigated stars and 11 comparison stars (eight of them are Be-Ae stars) are evidently due both to thermal emission from grains and to the emission from free—free transitions of electrons in the gas—dust shells of these stars.  相似文献

The existence of the polyynes — molecules consisting essentially of long chains of carbon atoms — in the interstellar medium is a discovery that appears to be critical to our understanding of interstellar chemistry. The family relationships of these species to other interstellar species are explored as are their significance to theories of interstellar chemistry. A scenario is suggested for the development of astrophysical objects. The equations derived are applied to the protostar—T Tauri star—flare star evolutionary sequence. The equations for the viscous motion of a mixture of gas and dust in a gravitational field are derived from the statistics of particle orbits and radiative processes in a general form which gives the Navier-Stokes equation as a special case. Diffusion, partially elastic collisions and — for larger bodies — the gravitational encounters are included. The results are applied to the evolution of circumstellar discs.  相似文献

The sample of members of isolated pairs of galaxies and close binary interacting systems — demonstrating a systematic falling of the emission-line rotation curves after the maxima — are considered. It is found that there is a significant correlation between the characteristics of the galaxies' emission-line velocity fields and the spatial distance to the companion. The primary negative ion sources in comets are shown to be: for the inner coma—both polar photodissociation of HCN, electron attachment of OH and collisions with alkalis; in the vicinity of the nucleus—plasma, excavated during interplanetary dust impacts on the nucleus; for both the contaminated solar wind region and sporadic discharges in the non-homogeneous inner coma plasma—dissociative electron attachment and charge inversion during keV positive ion scattering by cometary dust are also significant sources. Negative ion abundance for Halley's Comet has been estimated to be from 10–6 to 10–10 of electron densities. However, this ratio may be more due to the formation of clusters A(H2O)n. Some possible cometary plasma effects, caused by negative ions, have also been discussed.  相似文献

I compute the maximum number of observable brown dwarfs for various infrared surveys by combining the maximum possible Oort limit (0.1 missing Mpc–3 with all possible brown dwarf mass and age distributions. This approach shows what limits will be placed on the contribution of brown dwarfs to any possible missing mass if no brown dwarfs are observed. I consider brown dwarfs with masses of 0.01—0.08 M and ages of 109—1010 years.The full range of predicted numbers of brown dwarfs above 6 times the noise of each of the below surveys is: IRAS Point Source Catalog 0.02—6 IRAS Faint Source Catalog |b| > 10° 0.05—16 ISO (2 week 12µm survey) 0.15—80 SIRTF (2 week 12µm survey) 2.50—1600 WIRE (4 month 12µm survey) 21.80—6000 DENIS (half sky) |b| > 10° 0.00—2000 2MASS (full sky) |b| > 10° 0.00—8000A failure to find brown dwarfs in the IRAS FSC would just barely rule out about half of the mass—age range for Oort limit total masses. A failure to find brown dwarfs in 2MASS/DENIS would rule out roughly the same mass—age range, but would set a limit of 0.1—0.01 times the Oort mass in that mass—age region. No limits would be set for the other half of the mass—age range since both IRAS and 2MASS/DENIS have insufficient sensitivity for brown dwarfs with T < 750 K.A failure to find brown dwarfs with ISO would rule out almost all of the mass—age range for Oort limit total masses, but would not set a significantly lower limit to the brown dwarf mass limit. A failure to find brown dwarfs with SIRTF or WIRE would rule out the entire mass—age range for Oort limit total masses and set an upper limit of 0.1—0.001 times the Oort mass.To date, about 18% of the IRAS FSC has been searched down to 6, and no brown dwarfs have been found. This sets a 95% upper limit of 3 in 18% of the sky, or 13 in the entire FSC for |b| > 10°. To begin to set useful limits from 2MASS or DENIS, approximately 400 square degrees needs to be analyzed. To date, only a few square degrees of results from the 2MASS prototype camera have been examined, with no brown dwarfs found so far.  相似文献
