Our theory of a resonator for slow magneto-atmospheric waves in the chromosphere of a sunspot umbra has been used to check different models of the structure of the chromosphere and transition region. Oscillations of velocity and intensity in Civ, Siiv, and Oiv lines observed by Gurman et al. (1982) on the SMM spacecraft have been compared with the calculated oscillations. The observed spectrum of resonant peaks could well be explained by a gradient model of the umbral chromosphere. Different assumptions concerning the structure of the transition region do not influence the calculated resonance periods, but the amplitudes and phases of oscillations are modified. There is strong evidence for a concentration of the observed oscillations in cold fine structure elements of the transition region, even if the filling factor of such elements is very small (some few percent). Isothermal rather than adiabatic oscillations in the cold elements should be assumed in order to explain the observed fluctuations of line intensity; the relative amplitudes of pressure oscillations in the hot main component with a steep gradient of temperature are too small to explain the observed intensity fluctuations.  相似文献

Recent observational and theoretical studies of the structure of umbral chromosphres have led us to propose new models of the region. We combine space and ground based determinations of the densitytemperature structure of the transition region with existing Caii H, K, and IR triplet spectral data to establish relatively high density, gradient models of the sunspot chromosphere.Avrett in 1981 presented theSunspot Sunspot Model which can be characterized as a physically extended, low density, plateau model. However, in a similar study, the authors (Beebeet al., 1982) pointed out that the relatively high transition region pressures derived from space observations indeed are required to reproduce high resolution Caii spectral features. Studies of the umbral chromosphere as a resonant cavity for slow-mode magneto-acoustic waves producing umbral oscillations (Zhugzhdaet al., 1984) also lead to atmospheres of relatively small physical thickness, thus higher densities.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984.  相似文献

We investigate linear acoustic-gravity waves in three different semi-empirical model atmospheres of large sunspot umbrae. The sunspot filter theory is applied, that is, the resonant transmission of vertically propagating waves is modelled. The results are compared with observed linear sunspot oscillations. For three umbral models we present the transmission coefficients and the energy density of the oscillations with the maxima of transmission. The height dependence of the adiabatic coefficient (the ratio of specific heats) strongly influences the calculated resonance frequencies. The variable can explain the observed closely spaced resonance period peaks. The first resonance in the 3 min range is interpreted as a resonance of the upper chromosphere only, while the higher order peaks are resonances of the whole chromosphere.  相似文献

The brightness oscillations of a sunspot umbra in the H and Ca+ K lines are studied. The observational results are explained in terms of the resonance theory of slow-mode magnetohydrodynamic waves in the sunspot chromosphere. The thickness of the chromosphere above a sunspot varies quasi-periodically from 420 km to 1000 km.  相似文献

Emission cores of the H and K Caii lines observed in sunspot umbral spectra are mainly single-peaked, while semi-empirical umbral models predict their double-peak character. It is verified whether a single-peaked profile can be the result of the smearing of an originally double-peaked profile by macroturbulence. The integral convolution equation is solved for measured H and K profiles, and it is shown that, also after the deconvolution, they remain single-peaked even at an r.m.s. value of the macroturbulence velocity equal to 5 km s-1.  相似文献

Ion emission line intensities between 1170 and 1700 Å allow one to determine the differential emission measure (DEM) and electron pressure of the plasma in the solar transition region (TR). These line intensities together with their Doppler shifts and line widths are measured simultaneously for the first time above a sunsport from data obtained with the NRL High Resolution Telescope and Spectrograph with 0.06 Å spectral and 1 spatial resolution. The Doppler shifts show both subsonic and supersonic flow in the same line of sight over the umbra. The temperature structure for 40 resolution elements in the sunspot umbra and penumbra is derived from the DEM and the observed electron pressures.Extrapolation of the emission measure curves supports the previous EUV and X-ray observations that coronal plasma above sunspots with T e>106 K is reduced while emission from TR plasma between 2×105 and 106 K is greatly enhanced relative to quiet or active regions. This enhancement shifts the minimum of the DEM to lower temperatures and increases the slope at 2×105 K by a factor of two.New pressure diagnostics using the emission line intensity ratios of C iv to N iv are presented, and applied to the data. The energy balance in the TR for the sunspot umbra is dominated by radiative losses from the large amount of TR plasma. An estimate of the energy budget shows that an energy input is required to balance the radiative energy losses above the umbra. The observed divergence of the enthalpy flux for the umbral downflows can balance these radiative losses for T e between 30000 and 200 000 K.A typical umbral model of T e versus reduced mass column density is compared with one for chromospheric temperatures determined from the Ca H and K lines.Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo, Norway.  相似文献

We obtained simultaneous spectra with a spatial resolution of 1/2 and a temporal resolution of 15 s in H, Ca ii-K, Caii 8542 Å, and three Fei lines of the sunspot group responsible for the large flares of August, 1972 (McMath No. 11976). A time series taken 1972, August 3 in the Fei 6173 Å Zeeman sensitive line was analyzed for oscillations of field strength and the angle between the field and the line of sight, and for changes of the field associated with the Ca ii-K umbral flashes discovered by Beckers and Tallant (1969). The power spectra show no significant peaks, conflicting with the results of Mogilevskii et al. (1972) who reported oscillations in the longitudinal component of the field strength with periods of 56, 90, and 150 s. Changes in the field were not observed to be correlated with the occurrence of umbral flashes. These results place restrictions on magnetic modes of energy transport between the photospheric layers and the chromospheric layers where the umbral flashes are observed. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Aluminium monoxide (AlO) is widely known for its astrophysical significance. An analysis of the prominent lines of the (2,3;3,2;3,4;4,5;4,3;5,6;6,7) bands of the B 2Σ+?X 2Σ+ transition with those of sunspot umbral spectral lines suggests that the AlO molecule appears to be a non-negligible component of sunspot umbrae. Results of a recent (2008) rotational analysis were used to carry out the study. The effective rotational temperature determined for the above lines in the sunspot umbral spectrum is found to be of the order of 2900 K. The radiative-transition parameters that include Franck–Condon (FC) factors, r-centroids, electronic-transition moment, Einstein coefficient, absorption–band oscillator strength, and radiative lifetime have been estimated for the experimentally known vibrational levels using the Rydberg–Klein–Rees (RKR) potential.  相似文献

We studied the evolution and dynamic processes in the chromosphere above a sunspot umbra. A relatively rarely occurring phenomenon of bright long-lasting emission observed in the umbra of a unipolar sunspot of the AR 9570 group on August 11, 2001 was investigated. It was found that during the course of the observation, emission was spreading, gradually occupying nearly the entire sunspot umbra. Based on the analysis of the observations from other observatories, we arrived at the conclusion that the bright emission was a sympathetic flare that occurred in the sunspot umbra. It was assumed that there occurred an interaction with a neighboring, rapidly evolving group that exhibited subflares on the day of observation. In the same umbra, there was taking place an oscillatory process of the type of umbral flash (observations from August 11 and 12, 2001). The characteristics of the oscillatory process in the presence of the flare were studied. As the bright emission propagated in the sunspot umbra, brightness fluctuations ceased to be seen in the umbral flashes against the background of this brighter emission. The character of velocity variations did not change substantially, although the oscillation amplitude did decrease.  相似文献

A model of the R CrB star chromosphere is calculated on the basis of the observed profiles of the Ca II H and K lines and IR triplet and D lines of Na I and H-alpha. The calculated profiles of Ca II H and K lines and IR triplet and H-alpha are in good agreement with the observed ones both for an undisturbed state and for the light minimum. The line profiles for the light minimum are calculated under the assumption that the minimum is attributed to obscuring of the star disc with a dust cloud. In this case, the chromosphere is not hydrostatic since the column density at the chromosphere base is two orders of magnitude higher as compared to that in a hydrostatic model. The model proposed is more extended, less dense at the chromosphere base, and denser in the upper chromosphere. The extension of the calculated chromosphere is about 3 star radii. The density in the chromosphere is 108–1010 atoms per 1 cm3 and the temperature is 5000–7000 K. Agreement of the calculated and observed profiles of Na I D absorption lines is possible if we assume that, around the star, there is a cold envelope containing Na I atoms which expands with a velocity of about 30 km/s. This envelope is beyond the chromosphere, but near enough for the star and the envelope to be observed as a single whole. The optical thickness of the envelope in the Na I D2 line is 1.8. At the brightness minimum, this envelope illuminated with the star light yields additional emission attributed to resonant scattering in the Na I D lines.  相似文献

High-dispersion spectra of the core of the K line of Ca ii as seen at the center of the solar disc have been reduced. Resolution on the spectra approach 1 arc sec. Line profiles of individual elements are very asymmetric and often are peaked on only one side of the line center. Variations of the line profiles and the emission peaks are discussed. The doubly reversed mean profile of the K line is explained as a spatial average of individual profiles, and it is suggested that single peaks may be caused by Doppler-shifted discrete elements in the chromosphere.Donald H. By means of an inversion of H and K Ca ii line profiles the temperature and electron density in the chromosphere above the umbrae of two sunspots have been estimated. The temperature gradient 5 K km–1 exceeds the corresponding values in both quiet regions and plages. At a height of about 1500 km the umbra becomes hotter than the quiet region. At a temperature of about 10000 K the temperature gradient increases sharply. The electron density at 1500 km is approximately the same as that in the quiet chromosphere at the same height.  相似文献

An inversion of line profiles H and K Ca ii in the umbra of two sunspots is performed. By means of a numerical experiment, a tentative study of possible application of the method of intercomparison of lines in the multiplet (Goldberg's method) is made in cases when the condition of source function equality in multiplet is not fulfilled. It is found that the source functions of H and K lines in the sunspot umbra vary in a monotonous way. Their ratio in the layers for which measured values of ΔλD are available differs from unity. In the region of the lower chromosphere under consideration, the Doppler width is decreasing with height.  相似文献

A study is made of characteristics of the oscillatory process in a sunspot where, in addition to the high brightness in the cores of the H and K Caii lines, the H∈ line was also in emission. A bright H∈ emission persisted during six days at least. An analog of the behaviour of the Caii and H∈ lines can be seen, presumably, on dwarf stars dKe and dMe.  相似文献

Thomas (1978) has shown that, if Alfvén waves exist in a sunspot umbra, they are normally reflected so strongly by the temperature minimum as to be essentially undetectable in the upper solar atmosphere. However, it is known that in many proton flares, chromospheric emission overlies the umbra of a sunspot, indicating that the transition region (TR) between chromosphere and corona in the umbral flux tube has moved down to lower altitudes. As a result of this lowering, umbral Alfvén waves have readier access to the corona: the coronal leakage depends exponentially on the altitude of the TR. We find that the Alfvén wave flux which leaks out of the umbra into the corona can exceed 107 ergs cm-2 s-1. A flux of this magnitude is expected to dissipate rapidly in the corona, thereby contributing to a positive feedback loop which ensures prolonged (1 hr) leakage of the umbral Alfvén waves into the corona. We propose that these Alfvén waves may contribute significantly to prolonged energization of proton flares in which umbral coverage occurs.  相似文献

Spectra from 2678-2931 Å were obtained of an active region during the 19 June 1974, flight of the University of Hawaii rocket-borne echelle spectrograph. We report behavior of the Mg i and ii resonance line cores in quiet Sun, plage, sunspot, and filament structures. Among the interesting variations in these lines we discern a strong suppression of the red Mg ii emission peaks and possible rapid changes in the Mg i core in the spatially partially resolved sunspot.  相似文献

The magnetic polarity distributions in sunspot groups which produced solar proton flares have been analyzed. It is shown that the fluid motion in sunspot groups and below may be responsible for the origin of inverted or unusual polarity distributions, since rotating motion in these spot groups is often observed. Since such motion seems to produce twisting of magnetic field lines above sunspot groups, the origin of solar flares seems to be closely dependent on instability associated with this twisting of sunspot field lines in the chromosphere and the lower corona.  相似文献

Chemical composition anomalies of the corona and solar wind (FIP effect) have their origins in the chromosphere. We study the influence of the possible stratification of abundances in the chromosphere on the shape of corresponding strong Fraunhofer line profiles. A rough estimate is made of this influence for some variants of the variation in elemental abundance a el(m) (m being the column mass). Calculations are made for the K and 8542Å Caii lines in two semi-empirical models of the chromosphere above sunspot umbra. In practice it is difficult to realize a direct search of the FIP effect in the chromosphere for lack of self-consistent theoretical models of the chromosphere required to match observations to them. An attempt is therefore proposed to find indirect signatures of the effect using a statistically significant sample of spectra for different objects, say, sunspots with a different magnetic structure and a different age.  相似文献

The OSO-8 satellite enabled us to study various characteristics of the profiles of Si ii, Si iv, C iv, and O vi lines above active areas of the Sun, as well as above quiet areas, and to derive some physical properties of the transition region between chromosphere and corona (CCT): (i) The study of the lines shows a general tendency for the microvelocity fields on the average to be nearly constant for the heights corresponding to T > 105 K; however they seem to slightly increase with height in quiet areas, and decrease in active areas. (ii) A multicomponent model of the CCT is however quite necessary, and its geometry is far from being a set of plane-parallel columns. It is similar to an association of moving knots within the non-moving principal component of the matter. (iii) The proportion of mass, in the knots relative to that in the non-moving component, is several times larger in active regions than in quiet regions. (iv) In the knots, the non-thermal microvelocity fields are smaller in active regions and seem to decrease for T increasing above 105 K, contrary to what happens in the steady principal component. Of course, we consider that microturbulence and Doppler shift are two aspects of the same distribution of velocity.  相似文献

The difficulties of the primary interpretation of wave processes observed in the sunspot chromosphere are discussed. Frequency filtering is shown to be helpful in revealing traveling waves more clearly, which eventually affects the objectivity of estimating their parameters. The measured horizontal phase velocities are 40–70 km s?1 for umbrae and 30–70 km s?1 for penumbrae. Analysis of high-cadence observations has revealed an altitude inversion of the spatial localization of the three-minute oscillation power. It is pointed out that the pattern of umbral traveling waves is not constant and periodically gives way to the pattern of standing waves.  相似文献
