In the field of galaxies images, the relative coordinate positions of each star with respect to all the other stars are adapted. Therefore the membership of star cluster will be adapted by two basic criterions, one for geometric membership and other for physical (photometric) membership. So in this paper, we presented a new method for the determination of open cluster membership based on K-means clustering algorithm. This algorithm allows us to efficiently discriminate the cluster membership from the field stars. To validate the method we applied it on NGC 188 and NGC 2266, membership stars in these clusters have been obtained. The color-magnitude diagram of the membership stars is significantly clearer and shows a well-defined main sequence and a red giant branch in NGC 188, which allows us to better constrain the cluster members and estimate their physical parameters. The membership probabilities have been calculated and compared to those obtained by the other methods. The results show that the K-means clustering algorithm can effectively select probable member stars in space without any assumption about the spatial distribution of stars in cluster or field. The similarity of our results is in a good agreement with results derived by previous works.  相似文献

New photoelectric UBVRI data for stars in the young open cluster Tr 14 in the Great Carina Nebula (NGC 3372) are presented. The two-color diagram separates clearly the member from the nonmember stars. Thus, the membership of about 39 stars is suggested. Those located in the compact core of the cluster, have smaller reddening dispersion than those around it. No star appears above the Main Sequence at the faint end of the color-magnitude diagram. A distance modulus ofV 0?Mv=12.20±0.2 is obtained, which gives an age of about 5×106 yr. From only the photometry it is concluded to be slightly older than the nearby cluster Tr16.  相似文献

The stellar spectroscopic data of SDSS-DR8 (The Eighth Data Release of Sloan Digital Sky Survey) and the near-infrared photometric data of 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey) point sources are used to analyze the fundamental parameters of the open cluster NGC 6791. Using the radial velocities of 274 stars in the region of the cluster, we calculate the membership probability for each star with the maximum likelihood method. Based on the stars with high membership probabilities, we have derived the radial velocity and metal abundance of the cluster to be respectively Vr =−46.4±0.2 km·s−1 and [Fe/H]=0.32±0.11dex, in good agreement with the results obtained by other authors on the basis of high-resolution spectroscopy. Using red clump giants in the cluster as “standard candle”, we have derived the absolute distance modulus of the cluster to be (mM)0 =13.02±0.08mag or 4.02±0.15 kpc in distance, consistent with the values obtained from main-sequence fittings by some authors. And our main conclusions are: (1) NGC 6791 is extremely metal-rich; (2) Within the spectral resolution of SDSS, the discriminated 87 cluster members have no evident difference in matallicity; (3) The obtained distance modulus is insensitive to the age, metallicity and dust distinction, so it is a kind of reliable indirect measurement.  相似文献

We present a catalogue (CSOCA) of stars residing in 520 Galactic open cluster sky areas which is the result of the kinematic (proper motion) and photometric member selection of stars listed in the homogeneous All‐sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5Million Stars (ASCC‐2.5).We describe the structure and contents of the catalogue, the selection procedure applied, and the proper motion and photometric membership constraints adopted. In every cluster area the CSOCA contains the complete list of the ASCC‐2.5 stars regardless of their membership probability. For every star the CSOCA includes accurate J2000 equatorial coordinates, proper motions in the Hipparcos system, BV photometric data in the Johnson system, proper motion and photometric membership probabilities, as well as angular distances from the cluster centers for about 166 000 ASCC‐2.5 stars. If available, trigonometric parallaxes, spectral types, multiplicity and variability flags from the ASCC‐2.5, and radial velocities with their errors from the Catalogue of Radial Velocities of Galactic Stars with high precision Astrometric Data (CRVAD) are also given. In an attempt to discover planetary eclipses, we observed the open cluster NGC 7086. On one night we observed the cluster and standard stars through the B and V filters, enabling us to make a colour-magnitude diagram. Plots of the differential magnitudes were inspected for variability, but no planetary eclipses were found. New variable stars were discovered and their light curves show some of them to be eclipsing binary stars. The location on the colour-magnitude diagram of some of the variable stars is consistent with cluster membership.  相似文献

We present high-resolution echelle spectroscopy of 20 stars in 16 systems catalogued as members of the TW Hydrae association, and 16 stars identified as possible new members. We have calibrated the range of coronal and chromospheric activity expected for such young stars as a function of spectral type by combining our observations with literature data for field and open cluster stars. We also compute space motions for TWA members and candidate members with proper motion measurements, using two techniques to estimate distances to stars lacking direct trigonometric parallax measurements. The mean space motion of the four TWA members with known parallaxes is  ( U , V , W : −10.0, −17.8, −4.6) km s−1  . 14 of the candidates have properties inconsistent with cluster membership; the remaining two are potential new members, although further observations are required to confirm this possibility.  相似文献

We studied the spectra of 24 flare stars of the Pleiades cluster region obtained on the 2.6m telescope of the Byurakan observatory in the years 1986–1989. From the spectral indices of titanium oxide (TiO) and other chemical elements of the stars investigated we determined their spectral classes and luminosities (absolute visual stellar magnitudes). The agreement of these moduli of the stars with the distance modulus of the Pleiades cluster confirms that 21 of them belong to the cluster. Only three of them (FSP 169, FSP 377, and FSP 435) are possibly not members of the cluster. We measured relative proper motions with a typical accuracy of 1.0 milliarcsec/year (mas/a) for 2000 stars in a 1°4 × 1°4 field around the low-latitude globular cluster NGC 6934. Four plates taken with the Bonn double refractor, spanning an epoch difference of 62 years, were digitized completely. Within the tidal radius of the cluster, we find 106 stars with proper motion errors less than 5 mas/a. Membership probalilities are computed taking into account the individual proper motion errors and the radial distances to the cluster centre. We derive the mean relative proper motion of NGC 6934 using stars with high membership probabilities from radial velocities (Smith and Bell 1986) or from their location in the colour-magnitude diagram (Harris and Racine 1973). The relative proper motions of four Hipparcos stars in the field will be used to obtain the absolute proper motion of NGC 6934 once the extragalactically calibrated Hipparcos Output Catalogue is available.  相似文献

利用绝对自行资料,确定了年轻疏散星团NGC 2244天区恒星的运动学成员概率,并对星团成员概率以及自行矢量的分布、不同成员概率恒星的位置分布情况、径向数密度轮廓等进行了讨论并给出了星团的特征尺度;进一步结合已知的星团距离和视向速度资料,计算了NGC 2244的三维空间运动速度,结果表明NGC 2244是一个典型的薄盘族星团。  相似文献

We suggest some objective criteria for pruning the vector point diagram, necessary when calculating the membership probabilities of stars in a cluster field from their proper motions. Using the relative proper motions of 1,067 stars in the region of the open cluster M67, we calculated the membership probability for each star by a maximum liklihood method. 375 stars were found to have probabilities greater than 0.65 and these were taken to be members. A discriminating analysis gave 412 members. Some comparison with Sanders' (1976) calculation is made.  相似文献

We discuss the determination of membership of 42 open clusters. Our analysis shows that Vasilevskis' mathematical model can be reasonably applied to this case. Our improved version of Sanders' method and our definition of cluster member based on the principles of discriminatory analysis effectively exclude stars of low probabilities. It is important in the study of open cluster to use only those with high probabilities. The effectiveness of the statistical method is closely related to the velocity distributions of the member and field stars. For fields where the error rate is high, it is better to combine other data than proper motion in determining membership.  相似文献

Variables in open cluster (known distance, age, and metallicity) fields play an important role in stellar astrophysics because they allow to investigate the interior of stars. Therefore, six Galactic open clusters were selected to search for new variables and to complement data for already known variables. As five of these clusters are younger than 40 Myr, we aim at finding variable high-mass stars such as β Cephei and Slowly Pulsating B-type stars as well as classical pulsating stars within the instability strip. About 26 000 images (312 h) photometric images were taken at the 0.8 m (Vienna, Austria) and 1.0 m (Hvar, Croatia) telescope using V and I filters. The differential light curves were analyzed with standard time series analysis methods. In total, 11 variables were found in all investigated clusters. For nine of them, we were able to determine their nature and period. In addition, the membership probabilities from the literature were analyzed.  相似文献

The present investigation examines possible optical counterparts to 130 X-ray sources in the region of the α Persei open cluster (d ∽ 170pc, age ∽ 50 Myr) resulting from the analysis of three 22–25 ksec ROSAT PSPC pointings. In the same manner as for 73 X-ray sources from a raster survey in α Per (Prosser & Randich 1998), CCD photometry is employed to obtain magnitudes and colors for stars/objects close to the X-ray positions, with additional echelle and low-dispersion Hα spectra provided for some stars. For almost 60 X-ray sources, an optical counterpart with photometry acceptable for cluster membership is identified, some of which can be excluded from membership on the basis of discrepant radial velocity or X-ray characteristics. On the order of 30 new members or likely members associated with X-ray sources have been identified based on available data. A photometric rotation period has been obtained for one rapid rotator identified in X-rays.  相似文献

We examine 14 plates of the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272) taken with the 40 cm refractor at the Sheshan station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory. The plates span over a period of about 77 years. The positions and absolute proper motions of eight stars in the Hipparcos Catalogue and of 49 stars in the Tycho-2 Catalogue are used as the reference frame. The astrometric reduction is made with the central overlapping principle. The absolute proper motions of 534 stars in a region of about 100' × 100' around the cluster are measured. With the new proper motion data the membership probabilities of the stars are determined. The average absolute proper motion obtained for the cluster is -0.06@0.30 mas yr-1 in R.A. and -2.6@0.30 mas yr-1 in Decl. By combining this result with the known distance and radial velocity of the cluster, we also obtained the Galactic orbit of M3 for a chosen three-component Galactic potential.  相似文献

From photographic plate data of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory with a time baseline of 87 years, proper motions and membership probabilities of 364 stars in the open cluster NGC 6530 region are reduced. On the basis of membership determination, luminosity function and segregation effect of the cluster are discussed with details. Spatial mass segregation is obviously present in NGC 6530 while there is no clear evidence for a velocity-mass (or velocity-luminosity) dependence. The observed spatial mass segregation for NGC 6530 might be due to a combination of initial conditions and relaxation process.  相似文献

The observational data for 24 stars toward the young cluster vdB 130 are analyzed. The spectroscopic and photometric BV RIJHK observations have been carried out with the following telescopes: 6-m at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 60-cm at the Southern Station of the Moscow State University, and 2.5-m at the Caucasus Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute of theMoscow State University. Nine stars previously selected as cluster members have been found to belong to different subtypes of type B. A minimum color excess toward the cluster, E(B ? V) = 0.9 mag, has been revealed for the vdB 130 stars lying outside the molecular cloud. Maximum color excesses, E(B ? V) = 1.3?1.4 mag, have been found in the spectra of cluster stars 1r and 5r observed in dust blobs. Inside the cluster R v is shown to differ from the standard one. The overwhelming majority of the remaining investigated stars belong to late types and have minor color excesses (≤0.3) typical of close distances.  相似文献
