Particle hydrophobicity has been derived from Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) measurements and its impact on the flotation behaviour of chalcopyrite investigated. Batch flotation tests were performed using a dithiophosphate-type of collector in different concentrations. Three flotation regimes were studied using particle size ranges of 20–38 μm, 75–105 μm and 150–210 μm. The individual particle contact angle, and hence, the distribution of contact angles of chalcopyrite within feed, concentrate and tail flotation samples has been determined using ToF-SIMS secondary ions. The effects of particle size and hydrophobicity on the flotation behaviour have been investigated using this new approach. The hydrodynamic effects of the particle size were highlighted by the different distributions of contact angles obtained for each concentrate size fraction, with fine and coarse sizes requiring higher average contact angles to float. This effect was overtaken by hydrophobicity when a high collector concentration was used. The broad distribution of contact angles observed in all samples, i.e. heterogeneity in hydrophobicity, has significant consequences for interpreting flotation behaviour. The methodology of analysis conducted in this study was applied to real ore and can be used as a quantitative, diagnostic tool for examining surface chemical factors affecting hydrophobicity. This new technique has promise and may advance the understanding of mechanisms, which may lead to better control strategies for improving flotation performance. Furthermore, any mineral–collector system can be targeted, provided appropriate calibration is performed.  相似文献

The surface analytical techniques of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS) have provided information on the type and concentration of species on the surface of sphalerite and pyrite particles in flotation concentrate and tail samples, but also on their distribution on each particle and across particles of different sizes. From this surface analytical study, a more accurate interpretation of the flotation results of sphalerite and pyrite minerals in a mixed mineral system could be made as a function of the concentrations of copper sulphate activator and xanthate collector, and particle size. In particular, it was found that sphalerite particles reporting to the concentrate are larger in size and contain less iron hydroxide on their surface than particles reporting to the tail. As for the pyrite particles, their lower recovery than the sphalerite particles is the result of a larger proportion of iron hydroxide on their surface inhibiting copper and collector adsorption.  相似文献

The effect of sodium bisulphite on the xanthate-induced flotation of copper-activated sphalerite has been studied using batch flotation testing, surface analysis techniques (XPS and ToF-SIMS), and FTIR. The various techniques have been used to identify the mechanisms of interaction of sulphite ions with both collector and the sphalerite surface. The results indicate that sodium bisulphite depressed the flotation of sphalerite particles pre-treated with copper and xanthate at pH 9 with nitrogen and air purging. It was found that sodium bisulphite interacts with the sphalerite surface, as well as with xanthate in its adsorbed state. Based on the evidence obtained in the present study, and in conjunction with previous work, the mechanisms involved in the depression of the xanthate-induced flotation of copper-activated sphalerite by sulphite are proposed. It is suggested that copper xanthate decomposition on the surface of the activated sphalerite and the decomposition of the hydrophobic copper-sulphide-like species on the sphalerite surface are the active mechanisms for sphalerite depression by sodium bisulphite.  相似文献

From the examination of data from detailed plant surveys and associated laboratory batch testing, the principal effects of particle size in flotation have been identified. The current state of knowledge concerning the role of this variable is discussed in terms of the evidence presented. It is concluded that the minimum degree of hydrophobicity necessary for the flotation of a particle depends upon its size and as a result, recovery-size curves are a valuable diagnostic aid to the assessment of flotation performance. Entrainment is shown to be an important contributory mechanism to the recovery of fine particles which, when coupled with a low rate of genuine flotation, can account for much of the observed behaviour of such fines. The significance of particle size and its consequences in flotation research, in plant operations and in control schemes has been under-rated. The separate conditioning or flotation or both of separate size fractions seems inevitable as ores become increasingly difficult to concentrate.  相似文献

The effect of particle shape on the flotation process has been investigated in laboratory experiments with monosized spherical ballotini and ground ballotini. The particles were treated by partial methylation with trimethylchlorosilane to achieve varying degrees of hydrophobicity. In flotation, the process of film thinning and liquid drainage is critical in the formation of stable bubble–particle attachments and this is affected by the particle shape and surface hydrophobicity. Flotation tests with different particle sizes were conducted in a modified batch Denver cell. Predictions from a computational fluid dynamic model of the flotation cell that incorporates fundamental aspects of bubble–particle attachment were compared with data from flotation tests. Contact angles of the particles were measured using a capillary rise technique to indicate surface hydrophobicity. Ground ballotini generally has higher flotation rates than spherical ballotini; the results are consistent with effects from faster film thinning and rupture at rough surfaces and are well correlated by the sphericity index.  相似文献

Coal flotation studies were carried out in ultrasonically assisted flotation cells. Representative hard coal slime samples from Prosper-Haniel Coal Preparation Plant located in Bottrop, Ruhr Region of Germany were used for this purpose. A Wemco type flotation cell was fitted with transducers and tests were carried out at variable frequency and power. The reagent for coal flotation was Ekofol-440 with variable dosages during conventional and ultrasonic flotation experiments. The results showed that ultrasonic coal flotation yields more combustible recovery and lower ash values in concentrates than conventional flotation by using similar reagent dosages. These results are explained on the basis of efficient surface cleaning of the coal particles.  相似文献

In the UG2 ore (Bushveld Complex, South Africa) flotation, normally more than 3% of the gangue minerals, principally chromite with talc and pyroxene, report to the concentrate diluting the PGM recovery and contributing to subsequent processing costs. Previous studies have identified residual talc-like layers on orthopyroxene surfaces in Merensky ore flotation contributing to inadvertent flotation of relatively large particles (20–150 µm) of this mineral. Chromite (75–150 µm) from flotation of UG2 ore has been similarly examined. Statistical comparison of ToF-SIMS analysis of particles from concentrate and tails reveals no significant difference in Cu, Pb, Ni and collector (IBX and DTP) signals between these streams but surface exposure of Mg and Si is favoured in the concentrate. The flotation rate of coarse chromite correlates with the exposures of magnesium and silicon in patches on the chromite surface; higher exposures give earlier flotation. Conversely, there is a negative correlation with signals corresponding to the chromite surface, i.e. Cr, Fe, Al. Flotation of chromite without collector has confirmed this statistical discrimination. Hydrophobic talc-like residual layers, similar to those found on orthopyroxene surfaces, probably from partial alteration, explain this flotation mechanism.  相似文献

A combined quaternary ammonium salt was used as a collector for the flotation of quartz. It shows better selectivity and collectability than dodecyl amine chloride and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide for the flotation of quartz from magnetite and specularite, but the quebracho should be used in the flotation separation of quartz from specularite. By the measurement of zeta potentials, contact angles, and adsorption of the combined quaternary ammonium salt, the results show that the combined quaternary ammonium salt is preferred to adsorb on the surface of quartz, changes its zeta potentials and contact angles, and increases its hydrophobicity. The results of FTIR show that the combined quaternary ammonium salt adsorbs on the quartz surface in physical adsorption with no new products.  相似文献

为了深入探讨煤体吸附瓦斯发生膨胀变形效应的力学行为,基于煤-气吸附界面的表面自由能变化等于煤体弹性能的变化基本假设,从理论上推导了煤体吸附膨胀模型中吸附膨胀变形表达式和吸附膨胀应力表达式,模型中各参数的物理意义明确。通过已有的试验数据分别从低气体压、中气体压和高气体压3个角度对吸附变形模型的适用性和正确性进行了验证。模拟结果表明,模型预测数据与已有的试验数据吻合度较高,能够很好地描述不同气体在不同压力条件下的煤体吸附膨胀差异性,拟合精度均较高;在综合考虑吸附膨胀应力和气体压力对煤体吸附膨胀变形影响前提下,忽略吸附气体体积Va对煤体吸附膨胀变形的影响。  相似文献

In this study, we show that time of flight-secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) can be used to detect organic biomarkers, such as hopanes and steranes, in non-fractionated crude oils, without extraction and chemical preparation. Hopanes and steranes may provide valuable information on the history of life on early Earth, particularly if they are present in fluid inclusions in ancient rocks. Due to the presence of different generations of inclusions in even very small rock samples, it would be advantageous to find a method capable of detecting biomarkers in single oil rich fluid inclusions. The capability of ToF-SIMS for detailed chemical analysis of very small sample amounts makes it a potential technique for such analysis, and in this work this possibility is explored. The presence of hopanes and steranes in four different crude oils of different ages and stages of biodegradation was investigated using ToF-SIMS and GC–MS. By combining analyses of biomarker standards, crude oils and chromatographic oil fractions, specific peaks for the different biomarkers were identified in the ToF-SIMS spectra. The presence of these peaks in the spectra from the crude oil samples could be attributed to the biomarkers based on exact mass determination and by comparison with the spectra from the biomarker containing and biomarker lacking fractions, respectively. In addition, the results show that a significant biomarker signal may be obtained from a 10 μm2 oil sample, demonstrating the potential of ToF-SIMS for analysis of single oil bearing fluid inclusions, which in turn may contribute to a better understanding of the early history of life on Earth.  相似文献

A general-purpose computer program has been developed for the steady-state modelling of flotation plants. It permits simulation of flotation banks, made up of any number of cells, interconnected if necessary through a regrind unit. Specification of the fresh feed material in terms of the relative amounts and flotation-rate behaviour of its flotable components is necessary so that the program can then calculate the concentration of these components in all the plant streams.The use of the program for plant investigation is demonstrated using data for a lead concentration plant. The model was fitted to steady-state plant data and then tested by comparing the predictions of the model with actual plant measurements at a second feed condition. Full circuit simulation results are also presented to show how steady-state modelling can be used to give information on the likely response of the plant to other changes in feed material and the benefits which might result from rearrangements of the circuit.  相似文献

The effect of humic material on the flotation response of coal has been examined. The results show that while hydrogen ions do not adversely affect the flotation of coal particles, they interact with humic material adsorbed on the surface of the clay particles and render their surfaces oleophilic. This behaviour enables the clay particles to adsorb collector in preference to the coal particles and thus inhibit coal flotation.  相似文献

Flotation studies using a Hallimond tube have been carried out on purified samples of chrysocolla. The results confirm that by heating the sample to 550°C, flotation of the sulphidized sample with amyl xanthate is considerably improved. Flotation with sodium dodecyl sulphate is also considerably higher. The recovery with cationic collectors is not modified by the thermal treatment.Electrophoretic mobility measurements and flotation studies using benzene instead of air for the collection of the particles suggest that the increase in flotation after thermal treatment is a consequence of (1) an increase in the solubility of copper ions and their adsorption on to the surface of the particles, and (2) an increase of the intrinsic hydrophobicity of the particles due to condensation of some of the free silanol groups on their surface.  相似文献

The effect of three most important reagents for coal flotation namely sodium meta silicate, collector (kerosene) and frother (MIBC) was studied using 23 full factorial design. The regression models were developed using factorial experiment data to quantify the effect of sodium meta silicate, collector and frother and to predict grade and recovery of combustible material for different reagent conditions. The addition of sodium meta silicate increased the recovery without affecting the grade significantly. The MIBC addition reduce the surface tension at the liquid–vapor interface, which results in the production of finer bubble size distribution and thus improves flotation rates and recovery values. However, a finer bubble size distribution also increases water recovery, which results in a greater recovery of entrainable ash bearing particles and thus degradation of the product grade. The interaction between OH group of MIBC and hydrated mineral matter improves flotability of high ash coal particles and degrades the product grade further. The negative effect of kerosene and MIBC interaction on both grade and recovery could be due to the recovery of high ash coal particles in preference to low ash coal particles. The highest possible grade of product is 94.19% combustibles with 25.33% recovery. A product with 91.11% combustibles grade at 95.58% recovery was obtained at 0.1 g/kg sodium silicate, 0.4 g/kg collector and 0.075 g/kg frother from the coal fines tested.  相似文献

Bubble–particle encounter during flotation is governed by liquid flow relative to the rising bubble, which is a function of the adsorbed frothers, collectors, and other surfactants and surface contaminants. Due to surface contamination, the bubble surface in flotation has been considered as immobile (rigid). However, surface contamination can be swept to the backside of the rising bubble due to the relative liquid flow, leaving the front surface of the rising bubble mobile with a non-zero tangential component of the liquid velocity. The bubble with a mobile surface was considered by Sutherland who applied the potential flow condition and analyzed the bubble–particle encounter using a simplified particle motion equation without inertia. The Sutherland model was found to over-predict the encounter efficiency and has been improved by incorporating inertial forces which are amplified at the mobile surface with a non-zero tangential velocity component of the liquid phase. An analytical solution was obtained for the encounter efficiency using approximate equations and is called the Generalized Sutherland Equation (GSE). In this paper, the bubble–particle encounter interaction with the potential flow condition has been analyzed by solving the full motion equation for the particle employing a numerical computational approach. The GSE model was compared with the exact numerical results for the encounter efficiency. The comparison only shows good agreement between the GSE prediction and the numerical data for ultrafine particles (< 10 μm in diameter), the inertial forces of which are vanishingly small. For non-ultrafine particles, a significant deviation of the GSE model from the numerical data has been observed. High arsenic levels in nickel sulphide concentrates can often present technical and environmental problems at the smelter. In some ores a flotation separation between the nickel sulphides and the arsenide minerals is required in order to meet smelter specifications for arsenic. There is very little information in the literature about such separations and the flotability of nickel arsenides in general. Data are presented here from a single mineral flotation investigation into the flotability of niccolite (NiAs), one of the key nickel arsenide minerals present in nickel sulphide ores in Australia.Niccolite is only weakly flotable with xanthate collector at pH 9 and this behavior is independent of the grinding environment. This suggests that high arsenic levels in nickel concentrates are not due to niccolite flotation, but are more likely to be due to flotation of more floatable arsenic-bearing minerals such as gersdorffite. Cyanide diminishes the poor recovery of niccolite further.  相似文献

The effects of dodecylamine (DDA), kerosene and pH on the recovery of combustible matter and ash content of a lignitic coal from Tuncbilek, Turkey have been studied using a three-variable and two-level (23) factorial experimental design. The coal sample responded favourably to batch flotation with high recoveries in excess of 95% using both kerosene and DDA respectively. The main effects of all three factors on the recovery are positive. Significance of DDA as a collector, is somewhat greater than that of kerosene, but its selectivity for ash reduction is not significant at the 95% confidence level. The pH-dependence of recovery by these collectors is opposite to each other. The DDA-induced flotation recovery is lowest at pH 9.4, an effect which has been related to precipitation of cationic species of this collector. The kerosene-induced recovery and grade of combustible matter increases with pH and this has been attributed to a better dispersion of coal and its associated clays. The two-way interaction effects are all negative at a smaller level. The main and interaction effects have been discussed on the basis of adsorption at most favourable surface sites, different modes of orientation of DDA species, competition with kerosene, and probable collecting properties of the frother used. The simultaneous effects of the two collectors on the recovery of combustible matter have been discussed at each pH value used.  相似文献

在实际煤田地球物理勘探中,常规的地面地震勘探技术无法对煤层中的小断层、陷落柱、夹矸等微幅构造体进行精细的探测。相比于地面地震勘探,槽波地震勘探直接在煤层中激发,能量强,范围大,能够精确探测煤层中的微幅构造体。笔者等针对反射槽波地震数据的特征,给出了一种有效的反射槽波地震数据精细处理技术和流程,通过对频散分析以及槽波包络叠加等关键技术进行试验研究,提高反射槽波地震数据的成像精度,进而更准确地识别煤层中小断层等微幅构造。实际煤田反射槽波的应用试验表明,反射槽波勘探准确识别出煤层中的小断层构造,验证了反射槽波勘探技术的实用性以及本文反射槽波地震数据处理技术的有效性。  相似文献

常规音频大地电磁法,如EH-4电磁成像系统,在资料处理时通常不能有效分辨部分异常区域。以青海海北某公路隧道勘探为例,研究趋势面分析法在音频大地电磁测深中的应用。结果表明:通过拟合趋势面方程,可获取研究区内任一位置的视电阻率值,在拟合度较高的情况下可对区外的视电阻率值进行预测与估计;野外观测数据通常受随机因素的影响,可通过趋势面分析法对随机噪声进行平滑滤波处理;剩余值反映了视电阻率异常特征,绘制剩余值等值线图可以在去除区域背景视电阻率值后对异常区域进行凸显。音频大地电磁探测成果与趋势面分析法结合能更充分地利用地质信息。  相似文献
