Numerical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of a turbulent solar nebula are used to study the growth of dust mantles swept up by chondrules. A small neighborhood of the solar nebula is represented by an orbiting patch of gas at a radius of 3 AU, and includes vertical stratification of the gas density. The differential rotation of the nebular gas is replaced by a shear flow. Turbulence is driven by destabilization of the flow as a result of the magnetorotational instability (MRI), whereby magnetic field lines anchored to the gas are continuously stretched by the shearing motion. A passive contaminant mimics small dust grains that are aerodynamically well coupled to the gas, and chondrules are modeled by Lagrangian particles that interact with the gas through drag. Whenever a chondrule enters a region permeated by dust, its radius grows at a rate that depends on the local dust density and the relative velocity between itself and the dust. The local dust abundance decreases accordingly. Compaction and fragmentation of dust aggregates are not included. Different chondrule volume densities ρc lead to varying depletion and rimmed-chondrule size growth times. Most of the dust sweep-up occurs within ~1 gas scale-height of the nebula midplane. Chondrules can reach their asymptotic radius in 10–800 years, although short growth times due to very high ρc may not be altogether realistic. If the sticking efficiency Q of dust to chondrules depends on their relative speed δv, such that Q < 10?2 whenever δv > vstick  34 cm/s (with vstick a critical sticking velocity), then longer growth times result due to the prevalence of high MRI-turbulent relative velocities. The vertical variation of nebula turbulent intensity results in a moderate dependence of mean rimmed-chondrule size with nebula height, and in a ~20% dispersion in radius values at every height bin. The technique used here could be combined with Monte Carlo (MC) methods that include the physics of dust compaction, in a self-consistent MHD-MC model of dust rim growth around chondrules in the solar nebula.  相似文献

Abstract— Phase diagrams describing solid-gas equilibria in the system Fe-Mg-Si-O-C-H under H-rich conditions (~700–2000 K and 10?2–10?20 atm of Ph 2), including solar nebula conditions, were constructed based on thermochemical calculations. Boundaries of vaporous phases, which are the first phases to condense from a gas, can be obtained without calculating condensation temperatures of individual gas compositions because the numbers of major gaseous species are the same as those of components in the concerned systems. Fractionations by condensation and/or evaporation can be discussed easily in such phase diagrams. A thermal divide, which is a barrier that vapors cannot cross by a single cooling process, was recognized in the phase diagrams. This is present on the Fe-MgO-SiO2-CO-H plane at high temperatures (≥500–700 K) and plays an important role in fractionations. Oxidizing states of ordinary chondrites and carbonaceous chondrites before aqueous alteration are located at the O-rich side of the thermal divide. Such oxidizing states can be formed from the solar gas by fractionation in the primordial solar nebula because the solar composition is located on the O-rich side. On the other hand, the reducing states of enstatite chondrites, located at the O-poor side, cannot be formed as long as the thermal divide is present. The reducing states can be obtained by CO to CH4 molecular reaction at low temperatures (≤500–700 K), where the high-temperature thermal divide is absent. Addition of H2O-rich and CH4-rich ice can explain establishment of the redox states of ordinary and enstatite chondrites, respectively.  相似文献

Refractory objects such as Calcium, Aluminum-rich Inclusions, Amoeboid Olivine Aggregates, and crystalline silicates, are found in primitive bodies throughout our Solar System. It is believed that these objects formed in the hot, inner solar nebula and were redistributed during the mass and angular momentum transport that took place during its early evolution. The ages of these objects thus offer possible clues about the timing and duration of this transport. Here we study how the dynamics of these refractory objects in the evolving solar nebula affected the age distribution of the grains that were available to be incorporated into planetesimals throughout the Solar System. It is found that while the high temperatures and conditions needed to form these refractory objects may have persisted for millions of years, it is those objects that formed in the first 105 years that dominate (make up over 90%) those that survive throughout most of the nebula. This is due to two effects: (1) the largest numbers of refractory grains are formed at this time period, as the disk is rapidly drained of mass during subsequent evolution and (2) the initially rapid spreading of the disk due to angular momentum transport helps preserve this early generation of grains as opposed to later generations. This implies that most refractory objects found in meteorites and comets formed in the first 105 years after the nebula formed. As these objects contained live 26Al, this constrains the time when short-lived radionuclides were introduced to the Solar System to no later than 105 years after the nebula formed. Further, this implies that the t=0 as defined by meteoritic materials represents at most, the instant when the solar nebula finished accreting significant amounts of materials from its parent molecular cloud.  相似文献

A total of 56 non-porphyritic pyroxene and pyroxene/olivine micro-objects from different unequilibrated ordinary chondrites were selected for detailed studies to test the existing formation models. Our studies imply that the non-porphyritic objects represent quickly quenched liquids with each object reflecting a very complex and unique evolutionary history. Bulk major element analyses, obtained with EMPA and ASEM, as well as bulk lithophile trace element analyses, determined by LA-ICP-MS, resulted in unfractionated (solar-like) ratios of CaO/Al2O3, Yb/Ce as well as Sc/Yb in many of the studied objects and mostly unfractionated refractory lithophile trace element (RLTE) abundance patterns. These features support an origin by direct condensation from a gas of solar nebula composition. Full equilibrium condensation calculations show that it is theoretically possible that pyroxene-dominated non-porphyritic chondrules with flat REE patterns could have been formed as droplet liquid condensates directly from a nebular gas strongly depleted in olivine. Thus, it is possible to have enstatite as the stable liquidus phase in a 800 × Cl dust-enriched nebular gas at a ptot of 10−3 atm, if about 72% of the original Mg is removed (as forsterite?) from the system. Condensation of liquids from vapor (primary liquid condensation) could be considered as a possible formation process of the pyroxene-dominated non-porphyritic objects. This process can produce a large spectrum of chemical compositions, which always have unfractionated RLTE abundances. Late stage and subsolidus metasomatic events appear to have furthered the compositional diversity of chondrules and related objects by addition of moderately volatile and volatile elements to these objects by exchange reactions with the chondritic reservoir (e.g., V, Cr, Mn, FeO as well as K and Na). The strong fractionation displayed by the volatile lithophile elements could be indicative of a variable efficiency of metasomatic processes occurring during and/or after chondrule formation. Histories of individual objects differ in detail from each other and clearly indicate individual formation and subsequent processing.  相似文献

Abstract— The thermodynamic properties of SiO2 are approximated over a range of pressures and temperatures important under the extreme conditions achieved in impacts at typical solar system velocities from 5 to about 70 km/s. The liquid/vapor phase curve and critical point of SiO2 are computed using the equation of state (EOS) program ANEOS. To achieve this goal, two shortcomings of ANEOS are corrected. ANEOS, originally developed at Sandia National Laboratories to describe metals, treats the vapor phase as a monatomic mixture of atoms, rather than molecular clusters. It also assumes a Morse potential for the expanded solid state. Neither of these assumptions is accurate for geologic materials, such as SiO2, that contain molecular clusters in the vapor phase and are better described by a Mie‐type potential in the solid state. Using the updates described here, an EOS adequate for numerical hydrocode computations is constructed that agrees well with shock data at pressures up to at least 600 GPa and temperatures up to 50,000 K. This EOS also gives a good representation of the liquid/vapor transition at much lower pressures and temperatures. The estimated critical point parameters for SiO2 are Pc = 0.19 GPa, Tc = 5400K, ρc = 550 kg/m3.  相似文献

Models of the collapse of a protostellar cloud and the formation of the solar nebula reveal that the size of the nebula produced will be the larger of RCF ≡ J2/k2GM3and RV ≡ (GMv/2cc3)12 (where J, M, and cs are the total angular momentum, total mass, and sound speed of the protosetellar material; G is the gravitational constant; k is a number of order unity; and v is the effective viscosity in the nebula). From this result it can be deduced that low-mass nebulas are produced if P ≡ (RV/RCF)2 ? 1; “massive” nebulas result if P ? 1. Gravitational instabilities are expected to be important for the evolution of P ? 1 nebulas. The value of J distinguishes most current models of the solar nebula, since PJ?4. Analytic expressions for the surface density, nebular mass flux, and photospheric temperature distributions during the formation stage are presented for some simple models that illustrate the general properties of growing protostellar disks. It does not yet seem possible to rule out either P ? 1 or P < 1 for the solar nebula, but observed or possible heterogeneities in composition and angular-momentum orientation favor P < 1 models.  相似文献

The major iron meteorite groups are defined essentially by their Ga, Ge, and Ni contents. It now seems clear that the differences between their abundances of Ga and Ge were produced by the process of condensation and accretion in the primordial solar nebula. The simplest interpretation of the Ni abundance, and its variations between the groups, is also that it was fixed during condensation and accretion; more particularly, it reflects the oxidation state of the nebula during condensation and accretion. The abundance patterns of 17 other trace elements have been examined and are consistent with this model. It is believed to be the simplest model published and most consistent with analogous calculations for the chondrites. If it is correct, then the iron meteorite groups formed over a very wide range of pressures, 10?4 to 10?8 atm. Such a range could only be found in a restricted region of the nebula, such as the asteroid belt, if a complex accretion sequence inside a protoplanet occurred. More likely, the iron meteorites were formed in widely dispersed regions of the nebula and only one group formed in the asteroid belt, probably group IIIAB. Groups IAB and IIAB formed nearer the Sun, and group IVA formed much further out, say, beyond the orbit of Jupiter.  相似文献

We propose a new interpretation of the D/H ratio in CH4 observed in the atmosphere of Titan. Using a turbulent evolutionary model of the subnebula of Saturn (O. Mousis et al. 2002, Icarus156, 162-175), we show that in contrast to the current scenario, the deuterium enrichment with respect to the solar value observed in Titan cannot have occurred in the subnebula. Instead, we argue that values of the D/H ratio measured in Titan were obtained in the cooling solar nebula by isotopic thermal exchange of hydrogen with CH3D originating from interstellar methane D-enriched ices that vaporized in the nebula. The rate of the isotopic exchange decreased with temperature and became fully inhibited around 200 K. Methane was subsequently trapped in crystalline ices around 10 AU in the form of clathrate hydrates formed at 60 K, and incorporated into planetesimals that formed the core of Titan. The nitrogen-methane atmosphere was subsequently outgassed from the decomposition of the hydrates (Mousis et al. 2002). By use of a turbulent evolutionary model of the solar nebula (O. Mousis et al. 2000, Icarus148, 513-525), we have reconstructed the entire story of D/H in CH4, from its high value in the early solar nebula (acquired in the presolar cloud) down to the value measured in Titan's atmosphere today. Considering the two last determinations of the D/H ratio in Titan—D/H=(7.75±2.25)×10−5 obtained from ground-based observations (Orton 1992, In: Symposium on Titan, ESA SP-338, pp. 81-85), and D/H=(8.75+3.25−2.25)×10−5, obtained from ISO observations (Coustenis et al. 2002, submitted for publication)—we inferred an upper limit of the D/H ratio in methane in the early outer solar nebula of about 3×10−4. Our approach is consistent with the scenario advocated by several authors in which the atmospheric methane of Titan is continuously replenished from a reservoir of clathrate hydrates of CH4 at high pressures, located in the interior of Titan. If this scenario is correct, observations of the satellite to be performed by the radar, the imaging system, and other remote sensing instruments aboard the spacecraft of the Cassini-Huygens mission from 2004 to 2008 should reveal local disruptions of the surface and other signatures of the predicted outgassing.  相似文献

Secular resonances in the early solar system are studied in an effort to establish constraints on the time scale and/or method of solar nebula dispersal. Simplified nebula models and dispersal routines are employed to approximate changes in an assumed axisymmetric nebula potential. These changes, in turn, drive an evolutionary sequence of Laplace-Lagrange solutions for the secular variations of the solar system. A general feature of these sequences is a sweep of one or more giant planet resonances through the inner solar system. Their effect is rate dependent; in the linearized models considered, characteristic dispersal times ≤O(104?5 years) are required to avoid the generation of terrestrial eccentricities and inclinations in excess of observed values. These times are short compared to typical estimates of the accretion time scales [i.e., ~O(107?9 years)] and may provide an important boundary condition for developing models of nebula dispersal and solar system formation in general.  相似文献

Abstract— Forty‐three corundum grains (1–11 μm in size) and 5 corundum‐hibonite grains with corundum overgrown by hibonite (4–7 μm in size), were found in the matrix of the mineralogically pristine, ungrouped carbonaceous chondrite Acfer 094 by using cathodoluminescence imaging. Some of the corundum and corundum‐hibonite grains occur as aggregates of 2 to 6 grains having similar sizes. The oxygen isotopic compositions of some of the corundum‐bearing grains suggest their solar nebula origin. 26Al‐26Mg systematics of one corundum grain showed the canonical initial 26Al/27Al ratio, also suggesting a solar nebula origin. Quantitative evaluation of condensation and accretion processes made based on the homogeneous nucleation of corundum, diffusion‐controlled hibonite formation, collisions of grains in the nebula, and critical velocity for sticking, indicates that, in contrast to the hibonite‐bearing aggregates of corundum grains, the hibonite‐free corundum aggregates could not have formed in the slowly cooling nebular region with solar composition. We suggest instead that such aggregates formed near the protosun, either in a region that stayed above the condensation temperature of hibonite for a long time or in a chemically fractionated, Ca‐depleted region, and were subsequently physically removed from this hot region, e.g., by disk wind.  相似文献

Inferences about the formation of primordial matter in our solar system rest on analysis of the earliest preserved materials in meteorites, of the structure of the solar system today, and of matter in evolving stellar systems elsewhere. The isotope distribution in meteorites suggests that molecular excitation processes similar to those observed today in circumstellar regions and dark interstellar clouds were operating in the early solar nebula. Laboratory model experiments together with these observations give evidence on the thermal state of the source medium from which refractory meteoritic dust formed. They indicate that resonance excitation of the broad isotopic bands of molecules such as12C16O, MgO, O2, AlO, and OH by strong UV line sources such as H-L, MgII, H, and CaII may induce selective reactions resulting in the anomalous isotopic composition of oxygen and possibly other elements in refractory oxide condensates in meteorites.  相似文献

The calcium-aluminium-rich inclusions (CAIs) in chondrites are believed to be the most early solids formed in the solar system, and retain the original information of the early solar nebula. However, in-depth researches revealed that most inclusions had experienced a complex history of evolution, including partial melting and secondary alteration. Focused on the refractory and chemically stable noble metal particles in the CAI of a CV meteorite (NWA 2140), a study of astrochemistry is made in this paper. The petrology and mineralogy analysis as well as the composition determination have been made on the noble metal particles. Based on the result of composition analysis, the thermodynamic process experienced by the CAI is inferred, and two kinds of noble metal alloys are identified, which correspond to the early-stage condensation products and the secondary alteration products of primordial metals, respectively.  相似文献

Ca-Al rich refractory mineral inclusions (CAIs) found at 1-6% mass fraction in primitive chondrites appear to be 1-3 million years older than the dominant (chondrule) components which were accreted into the same parent bodies. A prevalent concern is that it is difficult to retain CAIs for this long against gas-drag-induced radial drift into the Sun. We reassess the situation in terms of a hot inner (turbulent) nebula context for CAI formation, using analytical models of nebula evolution and particle diffusion. We show that outward radial diffusion in a weakly turbulent nebula can overcome inward drift, and prevent significant numbers of CAI-size particles from being lost into the Sun for times on the order of 106 years. CAIs can form early, when the inner nebula was hot, and persist in sufficient abundance to be incorporated into primitive planetesimals at a much later time. Small (?0.1 mm diameter) CAIs persist for longer times than large (?5 mm diameter) ones. To obtain a quantitative match to the observed volume fractions of CAIs in chondrites, another process must be allowed for: a substantial enhancement of the inner hot nebula in silicate-forming material, which we suggest was caused by rapid inward drift of meter-sized objects. This early in nebula history, the drifting rubble would have a carbon content probably an order of magnitude larger than even the most primitive (CI) carbonaceous chondrites. Abundant carbon in the evaporating material would help keep the nebula oxygen fugacity low, plausibly solar, as inferred for the formation environment of CAIs. The associated production of a larger than canonical amount of CO2 might also play a role in mass-independent fractionation of oxygen isotopes, leaving the gas rich in 16O as inferred from CAIs and other high temperature condensates.  相似文献

We propose a new model for explaining the observations of preferential heating of heavy ions in the polar solar corona. We consider that a large number of small scale shock waves can be present in the solar corona, as suggested by recent observations of polar coronal jets by the Hinode and STEREO spacecraft. The heavy ion energization mechanism is, essentially, the ion reflection off supercritical quasi-perpendicular collisionless shocks in the corona and the subsequent acceleration by the motional electric field E=−(1/c)V ×B. The acceleration due to E is perpendicular to the magnetic field, giving rise to large temperature anisotropy with T?T, which can excite ion cyclotron waves. Also, heating is more than mass proportional with respect to protons, because the heavy ion orbit is mostly upstream of the quasi-perpendicular shock foot. The observed temperature ratios between O5+ ions and protons in the polar corona, and between α particles and protons in the solar wind are easily recovered. We also discuss the mechanism of heavy ion reflection, which is based on ion gyration in the magnetic overshoot of the shock.  相似文献

The results of calculations of graphite grain formation in the atmospheres of R CrB stars are given. The parameters for the models wereM=1M ,M bol=?6 mag. The effective temperature ranged from 5300K to 8300K. The chemical composition corresponded to the hydrogen-deficient carbon rich mixture:X=0,Y=0.9,Z c=0.1. The results obtained show the existence of a critical mass loss rate which is ranged fromM *≈10?6 M yr?1 forT eff=5300 K toM *≈10?5 M yr?1 forT eff=8300 K. As soon as the rate of mass loss exceedsM * by 3–5 times the degree of condensation of carbon changes from 0 to 0.7. The finite radii of grains are about from 0.01 μm to 0.6 μm depending on the density near the condensation point, the velocity of matter outflow, and the stellar effective temperature. The duration of grain growth should amount to some dozens of days. It is supposed that the most probable explanation of dust-shell formation around R CrB stars is graphite condensation behind a shock wave arising from nonlinear stellar pulsation.  相似文献

We investigate the method by which nearby supernovae – within a few tens of pc of the solar system – can penetrate the solar system and deposit live radioactivities on earth. The radioactive isotopic signatures that could potentially leave an observable geological imprint are in the form of refractory metals; consequently, it is likely they would arrive in the form of supernova-produced dust grains. Such grains can penetrate into the solar system more easily than the bulk supernova plasma, which gets stalled and deflected near the solar system due to the solar wind plasma pressure. We therefore examine the motion of charged grains as they decouple from the supernova plasma and are influenced by the solar magnetic, radiation, and gravitational fields. We characterize the dust trajectories with analytical approximations which display the roles of grain size, initial velocity, and surface voltage. These results are verified with full numerical simulations for wide ranges of dust properties. We find that supernova dust grains traverse the inner solar system nearly undeflected, if the incoming grain velocity – which we take to be that of the incident supernova remnant – is comparable to the solar wind speeds and much larger than the escape velocity at 1 AU. Consequently, the dust penetration to 1 AU has essentially 100% transmission probability and the dust capture onto the earth should have a geometric cross section. Our results cast in a new light the terrestrial deposition of radioisotopes from nearby supernovae in the geological past. For explosions beyond ~10 pc from earth, dust grains can still deliver supernova ejecta to earth, and thus the amount of supernova material deposited is set by the efficiency of dust condensation and survival in supernovae. Turning the problem around, we use observations of live 60Fe in both deep-ocean and lunar samples to infer a conservative lower bound iron condensation efficiency of Mdust,Fe/Mtot,Fe ? 4  × 10?4 for the supernova which apparently produced these species 2–3 Myr ago.  相似文献

Abstract— Among the samples returned from comet 81P/Wild 2 by the Stardust spacecraft is a suite of particles from one impact track (Track 25) that are Ca‐, Al‐rich and FeO‐free. We studied three particles from this track that range in size from 5.3 × 3.2 μ to 15 × 10 μ. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy show that they consist of very fine‐grained (typically from ?0.5 to ?2 μ) Al‐rich, Ti‐bearing and Ti‐free clinopyroxene, Mg‐Al spinel and anorthite, with trace amounts of fine perovskite, FeNi metal and osbornite (TiN) grains. In addition to these phases, the terminal particle, named “Inti”, also contains melilite. All of these phases, with the exception of osbornite, are common in refractory inclusions and are predicted to condense at high temperature from a gas of solar composition. Osbornite, though very rare, has also been found in meteoritic refractory inclusions, and could have formed in a region of the nebula where carbon became enriched relative to oxygen compared to solar composition. Compositions of Ti‐pyroxene in Inti are similar, but not identical, to those of fassaite from Allende inclusions. Electron energy loss spectroscopy shows that Ti‐rich pyroxene in Inti has Ti3+/Ti4+within the range of typical meteoritic fassaite, consistent with formation under reducing conditions comparable to those of a system of solar composition. Inti is 16O‐rich, with δ18O?δ17O?‐40%0, like unaltered phases in refractory inclusions and refractory IDPs. With grain sizes, mineralogy, mineral chemistry, and an oxygen isotopic composition like those of refractory inclusions, we conclude that Inti is a refractory inclusion that formed in the inner solar nebula. Identification of a particle that formed in the inner solar system among the comet samples demonstrates that there was transport of materials from the inner to the outer nebula, probably either in a bipolar outflow or by turbulence.  相似文献

Abstract— Ningqiang is an anomalous CV chondrite (oxidized subgroup) containing a high abundance of aggregational inclusions (13.7 vol.%) and low abundances of refractory inclusions (1.0+1.0–0.5 vol.%) and bulk refractory lithophiles (~0.82 × CV). Ningqiang may have agglomerated after most refractory inclusions at the nebular midplane had already been incorporated into other objects. Coarse-grained rims surround only ~5% of Ningqiang chondrules, compared to ~50% in normal CV chondrites. Aggregational inclusions appear to have formed by incipient melting of fine-grained aggregates at relatively low temperatures in the solar nebula, possibly by the mechanism responsible for chondrule formation. Granoblastic porphyritic chondrules, which contain olivines forming 120° triple junctures and no mesostasis, probably formed in the solar nebula by incomplete melting of precursor materials that were olivine normative and had relatively low concentrations of Si, Ca, Al, Fe and Na.  相似文献

Two extreme ultraviolet (EUV) spectrophotometers flown in December 1978 on Venera 11 and Venera 12 measured the hydrogen Lyman α emission resonantly scattered in the atmosphere of Venus. Measurements were obtained across the dayside of the disk, and in the exosphere up to 50,000 km. They were analyzed with spherically symmetric models for which the radiative transfer equation was solved. The H content of the Venus atmosphere varies from optically thin to moderately thick regions. A shape fit at the bright limb allows one to determine the exospheric temperature Tc and the number density nc independently of the calibration of the instrument or the exact value of the solar flux. The dayside exospheric temperature was measured for the first time in the polar regions, with Tc = 300 ± 25°K for Venera 11 (79°S) and Tc = 275 ± 25°K (59°S) for Venera 12. At the same place, the density is nc = 4?2+3 × 104 atom.cm?3, and the integrated number density Nt from 250 to 110 km (the level of CO2 absorption) is 2.1 × 1012 atom.cm?2, a factor of 3 to 6 lower than that predicted in aeronomical models. This probably indicates that the models should be revised in the content of H-bearing molecules and should include the effect of dynamics. Across the disk the value of Nt decreases smoothly with a total variation of two from the morning side to the afternoon side. Alternately it could be a latitude effect, with less hydrogen in the polar regions. The nonthermal component if clearly seen up to 40,000 km of altitude. It is twice as abundant as at the time of Mariner 10 (solar minimum). Its radial distribution above 4000 km can be simulated by an exospheric distribution with T = 1030K and n = 103 atom.cm?3 at the exobase level. However, there are less hot atoms between 2000 and 4000 km than predicted by an ionospheric source. A by-product of the analysis is a determination of a very high solar Lyman α flux of 7.6 × 1011 photons (cm2 sec Å)?1 at line center (1 AU) in December 1978.  相似文献

Abstract— Fischer‐Tropsch catalysis, by which CO and H2 are converted to CH4 on the surface of transition metals, has been considered to be one of the most important chemical reactions in many planetary processes, such as the formation of the solar and circumplanetary nebulae, the expansion of vapor clouds induced by cometary impacts, and the atmospheric re‐entry of vapor condensate due to asteroidal impacts. However, few quantitative experimental studies have been conducted for the catalytic reaction under conditions relevant to these planetary processes. In this study, we conduct Fischer‐Tropsch catalytic experiments at low pressures (1.3 times 10?4 bar ≤ P ≤ 5.3 times 10?1 bar) over a wide range of H2/CO ratios (0.25–1000) using pure iron, pure nickel, and iron‐nickel alloys. We analyze what gas species are produced and measure the CH4 formation rate. Our results indicate that the CH4 formation rate for iron catalysts strongly depends on both pressure and the H2/CO ratio, and that nickel is a more efficient catalyst at lower pressures and lower H2/CO ratios. This difference in catalytic properties between iron and nickel may come from the reaction steps concerning disproportionation of CO, hydrogenation of surface carbon, and the poisoning of the catalyst. These results suggest that nickel is important in the atmospheric re‐entry of impact condensate, while iron is efficient in circumplanetary subnebulae. Our results also indicate that previous numerical models of iron catalysis based on experimental data at 1 bar considerably overestimate CH4 formation efficiency at lower pressures, such as the solar nebula and the atmospheric re‐entry of impact condensate.  相似文献
