We investigate linear acoustic-gravity waves in three different semi-empirical model atmospheres of large sunspot umbrae. The sunspot filter theory is applied, that is, the resonant transmission of vertically propagating waves is modelled. The results are compared with observed linear sunspot oscillations. For three umbral models we present the transmission coefficients and the energy density of the oscillations with the maxima of transmission. The height dependence of the adiabatic coefficient (the ratio of specific heats) strongly influences the calculated resonance frequencies. The variable can explain the observed closely spaced resonance period peaks. The first resonance in the 3 min range is interpreted as a resonance of the upper chromosphere only, while the higher order peaks are resonances of the whole chromosphere.  相似文献

We consider the MHD oscillations of an inhomogeneous coronal loop that consists of a dense cord surrounded by a shell. The magnetic field is longitudinal in the cord and has only an azimuthal component in the shell. The parameters of the loop are chosen to be such that there are no resonances; i.e., the resonance points are cut off. This choice is dictated by the formulated problem of considering the influence of the radiation of MHD waves into the surrounding space on the loop oscillations, thereby ruling out the possibility of resonant energy absorption. The wave radiation efficiency is high and allows low oscillation Q-factors, which are equal in order of magnitude to their observed values, to be obtained.

Generalized Jacobi's equation is derived by introducing the friction force into the equations of motion of mass points constituting the system. The exact solution of the equation of virial oscillations of celestial bodies written for non-conservative systems is obtained using non-linear time scale in the course of the change of variables for a particular friction force law.The nature of the undamped virial oscillations of celestial bodies is though to be related to the system unstability near the state determined by the virial theorem. Thus, the friction force changes its sign near the unstable equilibrium state and due to dissipation of energy during evolution of the system the undamped virial oscillations can be described as self-exited oscillations.  相似文献

In the resonance model, high‐frequency quasi‐periodic oscillations (QPOs) are supposed to be a consequence of nonlinear resonance between modes of oscillations occurring within the innermost parts of an accretion disk. Several models with a prescribed mode–mode interaction were proposed in order to explain the characteristic properties of the resonance in QPO sources. In this paper, we examine nonlinear oscillations of a system having a quadratic nonlinearity and we show that this case is particularly relevant for QPOs. We present a very convenient way how to study autoparametric resonances of a fully general system using the method of multiple scales. We concentrate to conservative systems and discuss their behavior near the 3:2 parametric resonance. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The roll-yaw attitude motion of a spinning symmetric satellite in a circular orbit is investigated with particular emphasis on the behavior near resonance. Resonance in circular orbit occurs if there is a low-order commensurability between the coupled roll-yaw attitude frequencies. For the so-called Delp region where the Hamiltonian describing the linearized attitude oscillations is not positive definite, there can exist, near resonance, a simultaneous growth or decay of the energy of the two normal modes. Two sections of the resonance line 2=3 1 permitting the largest effects are determined and the equations of motion are integrated numerically as a check on the resonance theory. In particular, resonance-induced instabilities are confirmed.  相似文献

An extensive study of the IMP-6 and IMP-8 plasma and radio wave data has been performed to try to find electron plasma oscillations associated with type III radio noise bursts and low energy solar electrons. This study shows that electron plasma oscillations are seldom observed in association with solar electron events and type III radio bursts at 1.0 AU. In nearly four years of observations only one event was found in which electron plasma oscillations are clearly associated with solar electrons. Numerous cases were found in which no electron plasma oscillations with field strengths greater than 1 V/m could be detected even though electrons from the solar flare were clearly detected at the spacecraft. For the one case in which electron plasma oscillations are definitely produced by the electrons ejected by the solar flare, the electric field strength is very small, only about 100 V/m. This field strength is about a factor of ten smaller than the amplitude of electron plasma oscillations generated by electrons streaming into the solar wind from the bow shock. Electromagnetic radiation, believed to be similar to the type III radio emission, is also observed coming from the region of more intense electron plasma oscillations upstream of the bow shock. Quantitative calculations of the rate of conversion of the plasma oscillation energy to electromagnetic radiation are presented for plasma oscillations excited by both solar electrons and electrons from the bow shock. These calculations show that neither the type III radio emissions nor the radiation from upstream of the bow shock can be adequately explained by a current theory for the coupling of electron plasma oscillations to electromagnetic radiation. Possible ways of resolving these difficulties are discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that with a virial approach to the solution of the many-body problem the integral characteristics of a system (Jacobi's function and total energy), being present in Jacobi's equation, are immanent to its own integrals. Estimating the Lyapunov stability of motion of a system they play the role of Lyapunov functions.Studying Lyapunov stability of the virial oscillations of celestial bodies we used the Duboshin criterion applicable when permanent perturbations are present. In the case of conservative systems the potential energy of the system plays the role of such a perturbation. Thus, the nature of the virial oscillations can be understood as an effect of non-linear resonance between the kinetic and the potential energies. It is shown that the stability of virial oscillations of conservative systems relative to variations of the form-factors product is only a necessary condition in the proof of the hypothesis that =const. for celestial bodies. The sufficient condition for the proof of this equality consists of the given direct derivation of the equation of virial oscillations of celestial bodies from Einstein's equation, as well as of the equivalence of Schwarzschild's solution and the solution of Jacobi's equation at .The stability of virial oscillations for dissipative systems is studied. It is shown that the stability is limited by the period of time of its bifurcation.  相似文献

Pulsations of mm-wave emission with a period of about 5 s, which occurred during the impulsive phase of the flare of June 22, 1989, are investigated. It has been shown that these pulsations can be driven by Alfvénic oscillations of a flare loop excited due to upward motion of the chromospheric evaporated plasma. A method is proposed to determine the density and temperature of the evaporated plasma as well as the flare loop magnetic field and loop length in terms of Alfvénic oscillations of the loop and bremsstrahlung mechanism of mm-wave emission. The estimation of evaporated plasma energy has shown that for the flare of June 22, 1989 the energy content in electron beams is insufficient for chromospheric plasma evaporation. It is not excluded that the main energy release process occurs in the chromosphere.  相似文献

The effect of vertical oscillations with periods between 90 s and 300 s on a solar atmosphere governed by heat conduction and radiation loss is examined. The effect is found to be primarily a redistribution, rather than a net addition or subtraction, of energy within the low corona, mainly by long period (180 to 300 s) oscillations. The redistribution of energy is found to affect the time-averaged temperature and density profiles of such an atmosphere, particularly in the low corona. The amount of energy redistributed is found to increase with increasing period.  相似文献

For the 3 : 1 Jovian resonance problem, the time scales of the two degrees of freedom of the resonant Hamiltonian are well-separated [5]. With the adiabatic approximation, the solution for the fast oscillations can be found in terms of the slowly varying variables. Thus the rapidly oscillating terms in the slow oscillation equations can be treated as forced terms. We refer to the resonance between the forcing and intrinsic frequencies as a forced secondary one in this paper. We discuss the forced secondary resonances in asteroidal motion at the 3 : 1 commensurability by using Wisdom's method. The results show that the orbits situated originally near the resonance will leave the neighbourhood of resonance and tend to the separatrices and critical points for different energies, respectively. We have not found any stochastic web as expected in this case. Moreover, we study the problem of validity on the approximation of a system. The Project Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

We survey the mathematics of non-linear Hamiltonian oscillations with emphasis being laid on the more recently discovered Kolmogorov instability. In the context of radial adiabatic oscillations of stars this formalism predicts a Kolmogorov instability even at low oscillation energies, provided that sufficiently high linear asymptotic modes have been excited. Numerical analysis confirms the occurrence of this instability. It is found to show up already among the lowest order modes, although high surface amplitudes are then required (¦δr¦/R ~ 0.5 for an unstable fundamental mode - first harmonic coupling). On the basis of numerical evidence we conjecture that in the Kolmogorov unstable regime the enhanced coupling due to internal resonance effects leads to an equipartition of energy over all interacting degrees of freedom. We also indicate that the power spectrum of such oscillations is expected to display two components: A very broad band of overlapping pseudo-linear frequency peaks spread out over the asymptotic range, and a strictly non-linear l/f-noise type component close to the frequency origin. It is finally argued that the Kolmogorov instability is likely to occur among non-linearly coupled non-radial stellar modes at a surface amplitude much lower than in the radial case. This lends support to the view that this instability might be operative among the solar oscillations.  相似文献

According to one model, high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) can be identified with inertial waves, trapped in the inner regions of accretion discs around black holes due to relativistic effects. In order to be detected, their amplitudes need to reach large enough values via some excitation mechanism. We work out in detail a non-linear coupling mechanism suggested by Kato, in which a global warping or eccentricity of the disc has a fundamental role. These large-scale deformations combine with trapped modes to generate 'intermediate' waves of negative energy that are damped as they approach either their corotation resonance or the inner edge of the disc, resulting in amplification of the trapped waves. We determine the growth rates of the inertial modes, as well as their dependence on the spin of the black hole and the properties of the disc. Our results indicate that this coupling mechanism can provide an efficient excitation of trapped inertial waves, provided the global deformations reach the inner part of the disc with non-negligible amplitude.  相似文献

A general approach to the solution of the perturbed oscillation problem for celestial bodies is considered. The solution sought describes unperturbed virial oscillations (zero approximation) affected by external perturbing effects. In the general case, these perturbations can be expressed by an arbitrary given function of time, Jacobi's function and its first derivative. Standard methods and modes of perturbation theory are used for solution of the problem. It is shown that while studying the evolution of a celestial body as a dissipative system in the framework of perturbed virial oscillations, the analytical expression for perturbing function can be derived, assuming the celestial body to be an oscillating electrical dipole emitting electromagnetic energy. The general covariant form of Jacobi's equation is derived and its spur is examined. It is shown that the scalar form of Jacobi's equation appears to be more universal than Newton's laws of motion from which it is derived.  相似文献

Because the propagation of neutrinos is affected by the presence of Earth matter, it opens new possibilities to probe the Earth’s interior. Different approaches range from techniques based upon the interaction of high energy (above TeV) neutrinos with Earth matter, to methods using the MSW effect on the oscillations of low energy (MeV to GeV) neutrinos. In principle, neutrinos from many different sources (sun, atmosphere, supernovae, beams etc.) can be used. In this talk, we summarize and compare different approaches with an emphasis on more recent developments. In addition, we point out other geophysical aspects relevant for neutrino oscillations.  相似文献

The properties of the resonator are considered for fast magnetoacoustic waves. It is shown that tunnel penetration of waves from the resonator leads either to heating of the medium in the Alfvén resonance vicinity (if the inclination angle of the magnetic field is smaller than the critical angle), or to excitation of Alfvén waves at the Alfvén resonance (if the inclination angle is larger than the critical angle). This suggests that non-radiative heating of the corona can be due to solar p-mode oscillations.  相似文献

We investigate the possibility of explaining the observed ripples in the X-ray gas in the Perseus and Virgo clusters through natural oscillations of a perturbed radio cocoon. Such a perturbation would result from an expanding overpressured cocoon of radio plasma overshooting its pressure equilibrium point with the cluster gas. The oscillations are heavily acoustically damped, and energy injection rates required to sustain them are consistent with observed AGN powers. Viscous dissipation of sound waves generated by these oscillations heats the cluster gas. By comparing our model with observations in Perseus and Virgo, we reproduce the observed ripple separations and amplitudes. Spitzer viscosity is largely sufficient in explaining the gas density profile, suggesting that thermal conductivity is likely to be heavily suppressed. In the central regions, viscous heating can suppress cooling flows on timescales exceeding the radio source lifetime.  相似文献

We consider the flare oscillations from the active red dwarf AT Mic detected with the XMM-Newton space observatory in the soft X-ray energy range (0.2–12 keV). Following Mitra-Kraev et al. (2005a), we associate the observed oscillations with a period of ≈750 s with the excitation of a standing slow magnetoacoustic (SMA) wave in a coronal loop. The damping of flare loop SMA oscillations is shown to be governed by electron thermal conduction. We have estimated the plasma density (≈3 × 1010 cm?3) and the minimum magnetic field strength (≈100 G) in the region of flare energy release. The adopted model is consistent with the results of a spectral analysis of the soft X-ray emission. The piston mechanism is assumed to be responsible for the excitation of loop SMA oscillations.  相似文献

Just as a rotating magnetized neutron star has material pulled away from its surface to populate a magnetosphere, a similar process can occur as a result of neutron-star pulsations rather than rotation. This is of interest in connection with the overall study of neutron star oscillation modes but with a particular focus on the situation for magnetars. Following a previous Newtonian analysis of the production of a force-free magnetosphere in this way Timokhin et al., we present here a corresponding general-relativistic analysis. We give a derivation of the general relativistic Maxwell equations for small-amplitude arbitrary oscillations of a non-rotating neutron star with a generic magnetic field and show that these can be solved analytically under the assumption of low current density in the magnetosphere. We apply our formalism to toroidal oscillations of a neutron star with a dipole magnetic field and find that the low current density approximation is valid for at least half of the oscillation modes, similarly to the Newtonian case. Using an improved formula for the determination of the last closed field line, we calculate the energy losses resulting from toroidal stellar oscillations for all of the modes for which the size of the polar cap is small. We find that general relativistic effects lead to shrinking of the size of the polar cap and an increase in the energy density of the outflowing plasma. These effects act in opposite directions but the net result is that the energy loss from the neutron star is significantly smaller than suggested by the Newtonian treatment.  相似文献

The nature of the asymmetry that gives rise to Type I X-ray burst oscillations on accreting neutron stars remains a matter of debate. Of particular interest is whether the burst oscillation mechanism differs between the bursting millisecond pulsars and the non-pulsing systems. One means to diagnose this is to study the energy dependence of the burst oscillations: here we present an analysis of oscillations from 28 bursts observed during the 2003 outburst of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1814−338. We find that the fractional amplitude of the burst oscillations falls with energy, in contrast to the behaviour found by Muno et al. in the burst oscillations from a set of non-pulsing systems. The drop with energy mirrors that seen in the accretion-powered pulsations; in this respect XTE J1814−338 behaves like the other accreting millisecond pulsars. The burst oscillations show no evidence for either hard or soft lags, in contrast to the persistent pulsations, which show soft lags of up to 50 μs. The fall in amplitude with energy is inconsistent with current surface-mode and simple hotspot models of burst oscillations. We discuss improvements to the models and uncertainties in the physics that might resolve these issues.  相似文献
