The relative importance of different processes and transitions in the appearance of non-LTE populations for the fundamental levels of ozone was studied by quantifying the kinetic law of every process and transition that affect each level population. The vibrational temperatures and the relative contribution of every transition are presented as a function of altitude. The results show that the appearance of non-LTE populations for the fundamental levels is not produced by a direct imbalance between absorption and emission but as a consequence of imbalanced collisional transitions provoked by the overpopulation of O3(0 v2 0) levels. This fact confirms that the relaxation cascade drives through the bending mode ν2.  相似文献

Digital Soil Mapping (DSM) is widely used in the environmental sciences because of its accuracy and efficiency in producing soil maps compared to the traditional soil mapping. Numerous studies have investigated how the sampling density and the interpolation process of data points affect the prediction quality. While, the interpolation process is straight forward for primary attributes such as soil gravimetric water content (θg) and soil bulk density (ρb), the DSM of volumetric water content (θv), the product of θg by ρb, may either involve direct interpolations of θv (approach 1) or independent interpolation of ρb and θg data points and subsequent multiplication of ρb and θg maps (approach 2). The main objective of this study was to compare the accuracy of these two mapping approaches for θv. A 23 ha grassland catchment in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa was selected for this study. A total of 317 data points were randomly selected and sampled during the dry season in the topsoil (0–0.05 m) for θg by ρb estimation. Data points were interpolated following approaches 1 and 2, and using inverse distance weighting with 3 or 12 neighboring points (IDW3; IDW12), regular spline with tension (RST) and ordinary kriging (OK). Based on an independent validation set of 70 data points, OK was the best interpolator for ρb (mean absolute error, MAE of 0.081 g cm−3), while θg was best estimated using IDW12 (MAE = 1.697%) and θv by IDW3 (MAE = 1.814%). It was found that approach 1 underestimated θv. Approach 2 tended to overestimate θv, but reduced the prediction bias by an average of 37% and only improved the prediction accuracy by 1.3% compared to approach 1. Such a great benefit of approach 2 (i.e., the subsequent multiplication of interpolated maps of primary variables) was unexpected considering that a higher sampling density (∼14 data point ha−1 in the present study) tends to minimize the differences between interpolations techniques and approaches. In the context of much lower sampling densities, as generally encountered in environmental studies, one can thus expect approach 2 to yield significantly greater accuracy than approach 1. This approach 2 seems promising and can be further tested for DSM of other secondary variables.  相似文献

High-pressure phase relations in the system NaAl3Si3O11–CaAl4Si2O11 were examined at 13–23 GPa and 1600–1900 °C, using a multianvil apparatus. A Ca-aluminosilicate with CaAl4Si2O11 composition, designated CAS phase, is stable above about 13 GPa at 1600 °C. In the system NaAl3Si3O11–CaAl4Si2O11, the CAS phase dissolving NaAl3Si3O11 component coexists with jadeite, corundum and stishovite below 22 GPa, above which the CAS phase coexists with Na-rich calcium ferrite, corundum and stishovite. At 1600 °C, the solubility of NaAl3Si3O11 component in the CAS solid solution increases with increasing pressure up to about 50 mol% at about 22 GPa, above which the solubility decreases with pressure. The maximum solubility of NaAl3Si3O11 component in the CAS phase increases with temperature up to around 70 mol% at 1900 °C at 22 GPa. The dissociation of NaAlSi2O6 jadeite to NaAlSiO4 calcium ferrite plus stishovite occurs at about 22 GPa. Lattice parameters of the CAS phase with the hexagonal Ba-ferrite structure change with increase of the NaAl3Si3O11 component: a-axis decreases and c-axis slightly increases, resulting in decrease of molar volume. Enthalpies of the CAS solid solutions were measured by high-temperature drop-solution calorimetry techniques. The results show that enthalpy of hypothetical NaAl3Si3O11 CAS phase is much higher than the mixture of NaAlSi2O6 jadeite, corundum and stishovite and is close to that of the mixture of NaAlSiO4 calcium ferrite, corundum and stishovite. When we adopt the Na:Ca ratio of 75:25 of the natural Na-rich CAS phase in a shocked Martian meteorite, Zagami, the phase relations determined above suggest that the natural CAS phase crystallized from melt at pressure around 22 GPa and temperature close to or higher than 2000–2200 °C. The inferred P, T conditions are consistent with those estimated using other high-pressure minerals in the shocked meteorite.  相似文献

Global marine vessels emissions are adversely affecting human health particularly in southeast Asia. But health burdens from both ocean- and river-going vessels in Pearl River Delta (PRD) regions are not quantified. We estimated the potential health impacts using pooled relative risks of mortality and hospital admissions in China, and the model derived concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) due to vessels emissions. SO2 concentrations due to marine emissions in Hong Kong were 13.6 μgm?3 compared with 0.7 μgm?3 in PRD regions that were far from the marine vessels. In PRD regions, the estimated annual numbers (per million people) of excess deaths from all natural causes and hospital admissions from cardiorespiratory causes attributable to SO2, NO2, O3 and PM10 combined from marine emissions were 45 and 265 respectively. Marine emission control measures could contribute a large reduction in mortality and hospital admissions in PRD regions especially in Hong Kong.  相似文献

The evolution with pressure of the unit-cell parameters brownmillerite (Ca2Fe2O5), a stoichiometric defect perovskite structure, has been determined to a maximum pressure of 9.46 GPa, by single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements at room temperature. Brownmillerite does not exhibit any phase transitions in this pressure range. A fit of a third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation-of-state to the PV data yields values of KT0=127.0(5) GPa and K0′=5.99(13). Analysis of the unit-cell parameter data shows that the structure compresses anisotropically. Compressional moduli for the axes are Ka0=141(1) GPa, Kb0=118(3) GPa and Kc0=122.2(2) GPa, with Ka0′=8.9(3), Kb0′=6.2(6) and Kc0′=4. The stiffest direction (i.e. along a) coincides with the direction of the FeO4 tetrahedral chains. Comparison of these data with the elasticity systematics of Ca-perovskites shows that the presence of oxygen vacancies in the brownmillerite structure softens the structure by ∼25% and that the ordering of vacancies in the perovskite structure increases the anisotropy of compression.  相似文献

Mussels were maintained for 4 weeks under different combinations of dissolved oxygen concentration (1.5, 3.0 and 6.0 mg O2 l−1) and salinity (15, 20, 25 and 30) in a 3 × 4 factorial design experiment. Clearance rate (CR), absorption efficiency (AE), respiration rate (RR) and scope for growth (SFG) decreased with decreasing salinity and dissolved oxygen concentration (DO), while excretion rate (ER) increased with decreasing salinity and increasing DO. The O:N ratio was <10 at salinities of 15 and 20, irrespective of DO levels. SFG was negative in most of the treatments, except for those under 6.0 mg O2 l−1 or at a salinity of 30 when DO was lower. The results may help explain the distribution pattern of Perna viridis in Hong Kong waters and provide guidelines for mussel culture site selection.  相似文献

Two late Mesozoic granitoids in the Luanchuan area of the East Qinling orogen are considered; ore-bearing rocks are granite porphyries and granodiorite, with K2O > Na2O, appearing in the form of stocks. The Laojunshan rocks contains dominantly monzonitic granite, with K2O  Na2O, in the form of a batholith. Both the ore-bearing rocks and the Laojunshan rocks are highly siliceous and shoshonitic, high-K calc-alkaline, similar to some I-type granites. Light rare earth elements (LREEs) are enriched in both rock suites, although the Luanchuan ore-bearing granitoids have higher concentrations, with (La/Yb)N ratios twice that of the barren Laojunshan granite suite. Ore-bearing rocks have, therefore, undergone greater fractionation of heavy rare earth elements. All Laojunshan rocks have negative Eu anomalies, indicating plagioclase fractionation. δEu values are different in both rock suites, the values in the ore-bearing granites, ranging from 0.52 to 1.04, which are much higher than that of Laojunshan batholith, ranging from 0.4 to 0.65. (La/Sm)N values of ore-bearing granites are 5.32–8.28, while that of Laojunshan batholith are 3.75–5.77, confirming the observation that the ore-bearing granites have undergone a higher degree of strong differentiation than that of Lanjunshan batholith.Major and trace element data, and REE data, combined with isotope data from previous work and the close relationships between the tectonic settings of the barren and ore-bearing rocks indicate that both groups of rocks were derived from the lower crust. At ∼157 Ma, with the tectonic regime in transition from a syn-collisional to a post-collisional setting, highly fractionated granites ascended from their storage area via faults; at ∼145 Ma, ore-bearing plutons, which are triggered by slab melts, formed at the junctions of fault planes trending WNW-ESE and NE-SW. At ∼115 Ma, the tectonic regime changed from compression to extension; in this environment, the barren Laojunshan batholith was emplaced, representing the end of the collisional event.  相似文献

Outcrops of the Cretaceous Upper sandstone formation some 375 km to the East of Addis Ababa on the motor Highway to Harar was paleomagnetically investigated. About seventy core samples were collected at various stratigraphic levels from 250–300 meters thick sedimentary formation. After standard sample preparations in the laboratory the resulting specimens were subjected to routine paleomagnetic demagnetization protocol. In the first steps of demagnetizations process the recent and viscous magnetizations were removed by heating until a temperature of level of 300 °C. Further demagnetization of the samples resulted in the isolation of the final magnetization with stable line segments that is directed towards the origin, which is interpreted as Characteristic Remanent Magnetization (ChRM). Rock – magnetic experiments have identified goethite (αFeOOH), hematite (αFe2O3), detritial hematite, and magnetite as the magnetic mineral phases carrying the remanence. The ChRM identified resulted in an average value of (Ds = 0.5°, Is = ?0.7°, α95 = 4.3°, N = 34) for the red sandstones while an average value of (Ds = 335.8°, Is = ?31.8°, α95 = 4.7°, N = 14) for the limestone intercalations. The former ChRM in the red sandstone is determined to be secondary while the latter ChRM is known to be primary. Comparison of these directional results and their pole equivalents with the African plate Apparent Polar Wander Path curve established by Besse and Courtillot (2003) give ages of between 115–130 Million years for the limestone intercalation and ages of 30 million years for red sandstone unit. These are interpreted respectively as estimates of the age of deposition and a later remagnetization respectively.  相似文献

Recent studies have indicated that a significant amount of iron in MgSiO3 perovskite (Pv) is Fe3+ (Fe3+/ΣFe = 10–60%) due to crystal chemistry effects at high pressure (P) and that Fe3+ is more likely than Fe2+ to undergo a high-spin (HS) to low-spin (LS) transition in Pv in the mantle. We have measured synchrotron Mössbauer spectroscopy (SMS), X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) of Pv with all iron in Fe3+ in the laser-heated diamond-anvil cell to over 100 GPa. Fe3+ increases the anisotropy of the Pv unit cell, whereas Fe2+ decreases it. In Pv synthesized above 50 GPa, Fe3+ enters into both the dodecahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites approximately equally, suggesting charge coupled substitution. Combining SMS and XES, we found that the LS population in the B site gradually increases with pressure up to 50–60 GPa where all Fe3+ in the B site becomes LS, while Fe3+ in the A site remains HS to at least 136 GPa. Fe3+ makes Pv more compressible than Mg-endmember below 50 GPa because of the gradual spin transition in the B site together with lattice compression. The completion of the spin transition at 50–60 GPa increases bulk modulus with no associated change in density. This elasticity change can be a useful seismic probe for investigating compositional heterogeneities associated with Fe3+.  相似文献

This paper investigates dynamics of a spherical bubble surrounded by a viscoelastic fluid. The purpose of the study is to understand the parameters which control expansion and fragmentation of bubbly magma by decompression. In particular, we focus on which occurs first, fragmentation or expansion. Supposing that rupture of the bubble wall occurs in a critical stress condition, we calculate the change of the bubble radius and tensile stress at the bubble wall for various decompression rates. Conditions in which tensile stress is stored in the shell are represented in terms of dimensionless parameters. The results are interpreted as follows: when magma viscosity is larger than a critical value, and the decompression time is shorter than viscous expansion time, tensile stress is stored before expansion; when magma viscosity is smaller than the critical value, tensile stress is not stored, no matter how rapid the decompression. Although it is a generally accepted theory that fragmentation is effected by stress conditions and decompression time, exactly how decompression time (t1) effects the fragmentation is not yet fully understood. This study demonstrates that the stress condition is controlled by the length of the decompression time not relative to the viscoelastic relaxation time (t1 / τ), but relative to the viscous expansion time (t1 / τlrlx). As suggested by recent experimental studies, the decompression time relative to viscoelastic relaxation time (t1 / τ) is also significant to the fragmentation process itself. It indicates that the decompression time effects the fragmentation not through the stress condition. However more work must be completed to fully understand the particular relationship between the decompression time and relaxation time in terms of its influence on fragmentation.  相似文献

To explore whether quinone moieties are important in chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) photochemistry in natural waters, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production and associated optical property changes were measured in aqueous solutions irradiated with a Xenon lamp for CDOM model compounds (dihydroquinone, benzoquinone, anthraquinone, napthoquinone, ubiquinone, humic acid HA, fulvic acid FA). All compounds produced H2O2 with concentrations ranging from 15 to 500 μM. Production rates were higher for HA vs. FA (1.32 vs. 0.176 mM h−1); values ranged from 6.99 to 0.137 mM h−1 for quinones. Apparent quantum yields (Θapp; measure of photochemical production efficiency) were higher for HA vs. FA (0.113 vs. 0.016) and ranged from 0.0018 to 0.083 for quinones. Dihydroquinone, the reduced form of benzoquinone, had a higher production rate and efficiency than its oxidized form. Post-irradiation, quinone compounds had absorption spectra similar to HA and FA and 3D-excitation–emission matrix fluorescence spectra (EEMs) with fluorescent peaks in regions associated with CDOM.  相似文献

The effects of hypoxia on the larvae of two sub-tidal nassariid gastropods, Nassarius siquijorensis and N. conoidalis were compared so as to understand how the species-specific tolerance to hypoxia might have resulted in changes in the abundance and distribution of these two species in the hypoxic Tolo Harbour, Hong Kong, since the 1980s. Respiration rates of N. siquijorensis and N. conoidalis larvae were reduced at 4.5 mg O2 l−1, or below, as compared with the normoxic control. Significant reduction in swimming velocity was also observed for 10-day old larvae which were exposed to <2.0 mg O2 l−1 for N. siquijorensis and <1.0 mg O2 l−1 for N. conoidalis. The 48 h LC50 values of N. siquijorensis and N. conoidalis larvae were 0.7 and 1.7 mg O2 l−1, respectively. The results suggested that N. siquijorensis are more tolerant to hypoxia than N. conoidalis.  相似文献

The effects of prolonged exposure to reduced oxygen levels (3.0 and 1.5 mg O2 l−1) on marine scavenging gastropods Nassarius festivus were studied for 8 weeks. The percentages of individuals engaged in feeding and amount of food consumed were reduced as oxygen level decreased; absorption efficiency, however, did not vary significantly with oxygen level. Oxygen consumption rates and specific oxygen consumption rates were lower at reduced oxygen levels. Reproduction occurred at all oxygen levels with less egg capsules being produced at lower oxygen levels. Egg size and number of eggs per capsule, however, were not significantly affected by oxygen level. The increase in shell length was 12%, 6% and 5% at 6.0 mg O2 l−1 (normoxia), 3.0 mg O2 l−1 and 1.5 mg O2 l−1, respectively. At the end of the experiment, the amount of energy allocated to growth and reproduction decreased at reduced oxygen levels with values obtained at 3.0 mg O2 l−1 and 1.5 mg O2 l−1 being 48% and 70% lower than those at 6.0 mg O2 l−1. At all oxygen levels, most of the accumulated energy was allocated to shell growth and reproduction, and the amount allocated to somatic growth was relatively insignificant. The reduction in energy allocated to reproduction was greater than that to shell growth as the oxygen level was reduced, indicating a strategic energy allocation of marine scavengers under stressful conditions to enhance survival.  相似文献

Aluminum incorporation into the high pressure polymorph of TiO2 with the structure of α-PbO2 has been studied from 10 to 20 GPa and 1300 °C by XRD, high-resolution 27Al MAS-NMR and TEM. Al-doped α-PbO2 type TiO2 can be recovered at atmospheric pressure. Al2O3 solubility in α-PbO2 type TiO2 increases with increasing the synthesis pressure. The α-PbO2 type TiO2 polymorph is able to incorporate up to 35 wt.% Al2O3 at 13.6 GPa and 1300 °C, being the substitution of Ti4+ by Al3+ on normal octahedral sites the mechanism of solubility. The transition to the higher pressure TiO2 polymorph with the ZrO2 baddeleyite structure, Akaogiite, has not been observed in the quenched samples at room pressure. The microstructure of the recovered sample synthesized at 16 GPa and 1300 °C points to the existence of a non-quenchable aluminum titanium oxide phase at these conditions.  相似文献

This study reports the results of a field experiment using benthic mesocosms that examined dose-dependent effects of mussel biodeposition on the benthic environment. Mesocosms were placed in the natural sea bottom and subjected to one of eight levels of biodeposition (from 0 to 1400 mussels m?2). Most analyses indicated non-linear (i.e., threshold) effects. Sediment characteristics changed significantly between 200 and 400 mussels m?2 as did multivariate community structure. Community structure effects were characterised by changes in abundances of species that are very sensitive or tolerant to organic loading. The multivariate AZTI Marine Biotic Index (M-AMBI) indicated that the benthic status changed from High to Good in all mesocosms receiving biodeposits. Sediments acted as a sink for oxygen (O2), but results suggest O2 sediment demand was not sensitive enough to evaluate organic loading impacts. Results from this and improved experiments can be used to determine the environmental carrying capacity of sites for bivalve culture.  相似文献

We report volatile (H2O, CO2, F, S, Cl) and trace element data for submarine alkalic basalt glasses from the three youngest Samoan volcanoes, Ta'u, Malumalu and Vailulu'u. Most samples are visibly sulfide saturated, so have likely lost some S during fractionation. Cl / K ratios (0.04–0.15) extend to higher values than pristine MORBs, but are suspected to be partly due to source differences since Cl / K roughly varies as a function of 87Sr / 86Sr. There are no resolvable differences in the relative enrichment of F among sources, and compatibility of F during mantle melting is established to be nearly identical to Nd. Shallow degassing has affected CO2 in all samples, and H2O only in the most shallowly erupted samples from Vailulu'u. Absolute water contents are high for Samoa (0.63–1.50 wt.%), but relative enrichment of water compared to equally incompatible trace elements (Ce, La) is low and falls entirely below normal MORB values. H2O / Ce (58–157) and H2O / La (120–350) correlate inversely with 87Sr / 86Sr compositions (0.7045–0.7089). This leads us to believe that, because of very fast diffusion of hydrogen in mantle minerals, recycled lithospheric material with high initial water and trace element content will lose water to the drier ambient mantle during storage within the inner Earth. The net result is the counter-intuitive appearance of greater dehydration with greater mantle enrichment. We expect that subducted slabs will experience a two-stage dehydration history, first within subduction zones and then in the ambient mantle during long-term convective mixing.  相似文献

Flow cytometry was used to examine immune responses in haemocytes of the green-lipped mussel Perna viridis under six combinations of oxygen level (1.5 mg O2 l−1, 6.0 mg O2 l−1) and temperature (20 °C, 25 °C and 30 °C) at 24 h, 48 h, 96 h and 168 h. The mussels were then transferred to normoxic condition (6.0 mg O2 l−1) at 20 °C for further 24 h to study their recovery from the combined hypoxic and temperature stress. Esterase (Est), reactive oxygen species (ROS), lysosome content (Lyso) and phagocytosis (Pha) were reduced at high temperatures, whereas hypoxia resulted in higher haemocyte mortality (HM) and reduced phagocytosis. For HM and Pha, changes were observed after being exposed to the stresses for 96 h, whereas only a 24 h period was required for ROS and Lyso, and a 48 h one for Est. Recovery from the stresses was observed for HM and Pha but not other immune responses.  相似文献

The Piranshahr metaperidotites in the northwestern end of the Zagros orogen were emplaced following the closure of the Neotethys ocean. The ophiolitic rocks were emplaced onto the passive margin of the northern edge of the Arabian plate as a result of northeastward subduction and subsequent accretion of the continental fragments. The metaperidotites have compositions ranging from low-clinopyroxene lherzolite to harzburgite and dunite. They are mantle residues with distinct geochemical signatures of both mid-ocean ridge and supra subduction zone (SSZ) affinities. The abyssal peridotites are characterized by high Al2O3 and Cr2O3 contents and low Mg-number in pyroxenes. The Cr-number in the coexisting spinel is also low. The SSZ mantle peridotites are characterized by low Al2O3 contents in pyroxenes as well as low Al2O3 and high Cr-number in spinel. Mineral chemical data indicate that the MOR- and SSZ-type peridotites are the residues from ∼15–20% and ∼30–35% of mantle melting, respectively. Considering petrography, mineralogy and textural evidence, the petrological history of the Piranshahr metaperidotites can be interpreted in three stages: mantle stable stage, serpentinization and metamorphism. The temperature conditions in the mantle are estimated using the Ca-in-orthopyroxene thermometer as 1210 ± 26 °C. The rocks have experienced serpentinization. Based on the textural observations, olivine and pyroxene transformed into lizardite and/or chrysotile with pseudomorphic textures at temperatures below 300 °C during the initial stage of serpentinization. Subsequent orogenic metamorphism affected the rocks at temperatures lower than 600 °C under lower-amphibolite facies metamorphism.  相似文献

During the last 25 years there has been a great interest in deriving aquifer characteristics from outflow data. This analysis has been mainly based of the drainage of a horizontal aquifer after sudden drawdown, using the Boussinesq approximation. Following the general approach of Brutsaert and Lopez [Brutsaert W, Lopez, JP. Basin-scale geohydrologic drought flow features of riparian aquifers in the southern Great Plains. Water Resour Res 1998;34(2):233–40], it was determined that for this geometry the aquifer behavior could be characterized by dQ/dt  Q3 for small t and by dQ/dt  Q3/2 for large t. It was remarked that dQ/dt  Q for large t is often observed. In practice, it is also difficult to determine if dQ/dt  Q3 for small t because this behavior can only be observed over a very short period.Here, we present a similar analysis of aquifer behavior based on the more fundamental Laplace solution for penetrated aquifers. It has been shown that also when the drain does not fully penetrate the aquifer, the solution still produces good results [Szilagyi, J. Sensitivity analysis of aquifer parameter estimations based on the Laplace equation with linearized boundary conditions. Water Resour Res 2003;39(6)]. The Laplace solution quickly shows that dQ/dt  Q for t  ∞ and dQ/dt  Q for t  0, after sudden drawdown. This analysis reconfirms previous findings concerning long-time behavior. More importantly, the analysis shows that the exponent B in dQ/dt  QB does not have a fixed limited value for short times for the given geometry. Further analysis, however, shows that under certain conditions the relation dQ/dt  Q3 is retained for 0  t < 1. Detailed examination of the Laplace solution also shows under which types of recharge dynamics a well-identifiable transition takes place between short- and long-term behavior. As long as such a clear transition exists, the aquifer characterization method proposed earlier by Brutsaert and Lopez [Brutsaert W, Lopez, JP. Basin-scale geohydrologic drought flow features of riparian aquifers in the southern Great Plains. Water Resour Res 1998;34(2):233–40] can be applied. It is shown that for a sharp pulse input, the Laplace solution gives similar results as presented by Brutsaert and Lopez [Brutsaert W, Lopez, JP. Basin-scale geohydrologic drought flow features of riparian aquifers in the southern Great Plains. Water Resour Res 1998;34(2):233–40]. For a smooth pulse, the transition becomes unclear. What is “smooth” and “sharp” depends on input and aquifer characteristics, whereby shallow aquifers give clearer transitions than deep aquifers for the same input. The analysis shows that when rain ceases suddenly after the aquifer has come into equilibrium with a steady rain input, a usable transition in the relation between dQ/dt and Q can be found as well. Researchers can use the present analysis to assess whether specific aquifers and recharge events can be used for the previously suggested characterization method.  相似文献
