Consolidation of a poroelastic material that yields according to Drucker–Prager or Mohr–Coulomb criteria leads to a Stefan problem for time-dependent pore fluid pressure. The solution to the Stefan problem for a column of infinite depth is known and is adapted to poroelastic/plastic consolidation of a weightless material under a uniform surface load applied instantaneously and subsequently maintained constant. In this approach, the plastic potential and yield criterion need not be the same. If yielding occurs concurrently with application of load, then collapse is instantaneous. Otherwise, yielding may occur during the consolidation period. If so, then the elastic–plastic zone first appears at the surface and subsequently moves down the column. Depth to the elastic–plastic boundary is given by the simple expression Z = 2βt where β is a constant determined from continuity conditions at the elastic–plastic boundary. Time-dependent surface displacement that occurs during consolidation is directly proportional to Z. There is little difference between elastic–plastic and purely elastic results in a numerical example because there is little difference in the respective consolidation coefficients. Elastic–plastic finite element results obtained from a column of finite depth are in close agreement with analytical results as long as the pore pressure at the bottom of the column does not change significantly from the value induced by application of the surface load. The analytical solution provides for: (1) efficient evaluation of material properties effects on consolidation, including strength and fluid compressibility, and (2) an accurate way of validating poroelastic/plastic computer codes that are based on Drucker–Prager and Mohr–Coulomb criteria. By considering the ways (symmetric, asymmetric and antisymmetric) in which layer interfaces can mutually deflect (see Fig.2.), and the relative curvatures which occur in waves of each of the interfaces (Fig.1), it is possible to generate a classification of structures which covers a wide range of buckle fold shapes, load casts and interface buckles, some types of boudins and asymmetric folds, in one three-dimensional plot.  相似文献

In 1989 a small-scale exercise conducted by the CEC as part of its research programme into the underground storage of radioactive waste highlighted the difficulty of making accurate predictions a priori, of the geomechanical behaviour of clay. Given source data about the Boom clay from the underground research facility at Mol, three organisations independently performed f.e. analyses of two somewhat hypothetical problems. While the results were very broadly in agreement, they were shown to be sensitive to both the type of constitutive model used and the way data was fitted to the model.

Subsequently, the CEC sponsored a more comprehensive benchmark exercise called INTERCLAY II. This involves eleven organisations from various member states of the EC in a project encompassing the three aspects of software development for predictive modelling: verification, validation on the laboratory scale and the treatment of in-situ tests. The paper briefly describes the exercise currently in progress and presents the main results achieved to date concentrating on validation aspects.  相似文献

Fifteen heat-flow determinations based on data from 34 drill holes throughout central and southern Norway are presented. Five combined heat-flow — heat-generation measurements from homogeneous Precambrian and Permian crystalline rocks from southern Norway confirm a linear relation between heat flow and heat generation of the form Q = Q0 + bA, where Q is surface heat flow (1hfu = 10−6 cal cm−2 sec−1), A is surface heat generation (1hgu = 10−13 cal cm−3 sec−1), and b and Q0 are constants. The slope of the line (b = 8.4 km) is in good agreement with results obtained from other stable continental areas, but the intercept (Q0 = 0.48 hfu) is considerably lower, suggesting the presence of a zone of low heat flow in southern Norway.Nine heat-flow determinations are from the Paleozoic, Caledonian orogenic belt. These values range from 1.09 to 1.29 hfu with an average value of 1.18, are consistent with model data from other Paleozoic orogenic areas including the Appalachian system of North America, and do not appear to reflect the low heat flow observed in southern Norway.  相似文献

A population of 117 coexisting nonalkaline pyroxene pairs has been studied statistically to evaluate compositional and thermal effects on the element distribution. KDMgopx−cpx is influenced by the Fe/Mg-ratio, by the Ca content—especially of clinopyroxene—and by the content of tetrahedral Al. Fe and tetrahedral Al are found to be negatively correlated. A principal component analysis based on the variation of Si, AlIV, AlIV, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ca is performed. Dropping of highly correlated variables does not affect the result significantly. The first principal component reflects the major chemical variation in Fe and Mg. When using Ferrous and ferric iron as separate entries of the analysis, either the second or the third component demonstrates a temperature dependence. It is, however, not possible to obtain pure temperature and chemical components due to the composition not being uncorrelated to temperature of formation. From these components a graph reflecting temperature of formation has been constructed.  相似文献

Models are presented of the structure, composition, temperature, and elastic properties of three types of lithosphere (steady-state oceanic, continental shield, and ‘Basin and Range’ continental). Laboratory studies of creep in granitic, basaltic and ultrabasic rocks are then used to construct models of lithosphere rheology. Good agreement is found with geophysical observations if the stress increases from ~1 MPa (10 bar) at the base of the lithosphere to values which range from ~1 MPa to >100 MPa (10 bar to >1 kbar) in the crust.  相似文献

In the Phanerozoic, there are three major geological boundaries: Precambrian/Cambrian.Permian/Triassic and Cretaceous/Tertiary. Studies of these boundaries in China and over the world stronglysuggest that they have the following similar features: mass extinctions of many taxa, positive anomalies ofplatinum-group metals, and abrupt changes of stable isotopes (δ~(13)C). It is quite probable that these were theconsequences of some rare catastrophic events of extraterrestrial origin. Hence, the three above-mentionedmass extinction events may be regarded as key indicators for the division of the geological history of thePhanerozoic.  相似文献

Desert land surfaces are commonly characterized by a veneer or pavement of siliceous and/or ferruginous stony material. This material can be shown in most cases to be predominantly bedrock-derived, despite often severe modification by prolonged weathering, and can therefore be selectively sampled and analyzed as an indicator of bedrock geochemistry in geochemical surveys.Most pavements probably owe their existence to the interaction of several dispersion mechanisms. However, a common factor in all cases is the concentration of coarse particles at the surface as a result of the selective removal by erosion of fine dilutant material. Hence, the preferred name when used in the geochemical context is “lag”.In lag sampling, particles in the range 2.0–6.0 mm are screened on site from the unconsolidated surface material. Material in this size range has been found to be quite uniformly distributed over a wide range of arid region environments, including areas where residual soils are severely diluted by transported alluvial and aeolian materials.Data from exploration programmes for Au, Cu-Pb-Zn-Ba, and Ni allow comparison of results for lag sampling with those for alternative sample media in a variety of arid region environments. Analysis of lag samples for Au, Cu and As clearly indicates the presence of bedrock Au mineralization in the Paterson and Eastern Goldfields Provinces of Western Australia. In these areas both lags and soils exhibit good anomaly contrast, but lags show more extensive lateral dispersion, leading to advantages in reconnaissance exploration.Strong anomalies for Ni and Cu are developed in lags, compared with subdued response in fine-fraction soils over a Ni sulphide occurrence in the Eastern Goldfields which has been subjected to deep lateritic weathering.Lag geochemistry also clearly reflects sub-economic base metal and barite occurrences in the McArthur Basin, N.T., in spite of the dilution of surface soils by sands probably related to a Mesozoic marine incursion. Orientation sampling over a Pb-Zn prospect in the Pine Creek Geosyncline has demonstrated optimum response in lag samples compared with various size fractions of the associated lithosols.Variable dilution of lag samples by coarse quartz sand can be a problem in areas with substantial transported overburden. A simple procedure to ‘correct’ trace-element values using regression analysis based on the Fe content of samples is described as a means of reducing ‘noise’ resulting from such matrix variations.  相似文献

Taking for example the Luobosa chromite deposit in Tibet combined with other deposits of the same type in the world, the paper discusses the genetic mechanism of podiform chromite deposits. The study indicates that chromite and dunite-harzburgite are both the products of different degrees of partial melting of the same primary pyrolite(spinel lherzolite) and that chromite and dunite are the end product of higher degree of partial melting.The melting mechanism lies in the convcrsion of the two subgroups of pyroxenes(Cpx and Opx) into olivine and spinel respectively as a result of their incongruent melting, accompanied by regulation and reformation of accessory chrome spinel and such rock-forming minerals as Ol, Opx and Cpx, thus resulting in the close association of chromite deposits and dunite. The results of this study are of general significance for understanding the genesis of chromite deposits of the same type in the world.  相似文献

Helium has been proposed as a pathfinder in exploration for uranium deposits, hydrocarbons and geothermal energy sources, as an indicator of faults and fissures and as a possible tool for earthquake prediction. The rationale is that during the decay of 238U to 206 Pb, eight 4He atoms are produced via the intermediary of alpha particle emission. Similarly, six 4He atoms are produced by the decay of 232Th to 208Pb. Some of the common isotopes of the rare earths Ce, Nd and Sm are also alpha emitters, but they are unlikely to give rise to detectable helium anomalies.  相似文献
