Disaggregation of the seismic hazard has become a popular technique to convey information on the main sources contributing to the hazard at a particular site. Recently published work adopts geographic disaggregation analysis of seismic hazard as a tool to identify dominant rupture scenarios for municipalities in Mainland Portugal. The authors conclude that the seismic hazard in South and Central Portugal is dominated by the seismicity that takes place offshore, around 70km WSW of Cape S. Vicente, both for the return periods of 475 years and 975 years. Whilst recognizing the merits of the approach taken and the utility of the tools developed, we take issue with this last conclusion. We consider that the proposed disaggregation returns a picture of the biases in the hazard analysis, more than any real feature of the distribution of relevant seismogenic sources.  相似文献

The authors have developed a model to predict the radiation stresses in the coastal zone and to estimate currents and set-up/set-down of mean sea level. The values of radiation stress are calculated from velocity potential, which can be obtained by analytical means or from a finite element model of the elliptic extended mild slope equation depending on the complexity of the situation in question. The values of radiation stress are then input into a hydrodynamic model which gives the resulting set-up/set-down and currents caused by these stresses. The developed model includes convective acceleration and bottom friction. The radiation stress results of the model have been compared with analytical results and published values. Results for set-up/set-down and currents have been compared with published results for seven other similar models. The model has been compared with published results for set-up/set-down and currents created in the vicinity of a detached breakwater and also around a conical island. The results of the authors’ model compare well with the analytical results, and published results for similar models. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

The average velocity of shear waves in the top 30 m of soil, νL, has become the parameter used by many engineering design codes and most recently by published empirical-scaling equations to estimate the amplitudes of strong ground motion. Yet there are few studies to determine whether this is a meaningful parameter to use—and whether estimates that do use it are reliable. In 1995, the authors studied this problem and concluded that νL should not be used. We reported then that an older site characterization in terms of the soil site parameter proposed by Seed et al. [1], sL, worked better because it included a measure of the thickness of the soil layers to considerably greater depths. Our report, however, made no difference; numerous papers continued to be published based only on scaling in terms of νL, and worse, they also ignored the geological site conditions. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize that the average shear-wave velocity in the top 30 m of soil should not be the only site parameter used to scale strong-motion amplitudes. While the search continues for the more meaningful site parameters to use in empirical scaling of strong earthquake ground motion, it is better to use sL to describe the amplification of seismic waves by soil deposits near the surface.  相似文献

A review and analysis of post-stack time-lapse time-shifts has been carried out that covers published literature supplemented by in-house datasets available to the authors. Time-shift data are classified into those originating from geomechanical effects and those due to fluid saturation changes. From these data, conclusions are drawn regarding the effectiveness of post-stack time-shifts for overburden and reservoir monitoring purposes. A variety of field examples are shown that display the range and magnitude of variation for each class of application. The underlying physical mechanisms creating these time-shifts are then described, and linked to a series of generic and field-specific rock physics calculations that predict their magnitudes. These calculations serve as a guide for practitioners wishing to utilize this information on their own datasets. Conclusions are drawn regarding the reliability of this attribute for monitoring purposes, and the extent to which further development is required and how it should be reported by authors.  相似文献

When applying the conventional Fourier pseudospectral method (FSM) on a Cartesian grid that has a sufficient size to propagate a pulse, spurious diffractions from the staircase representation of the curved interfaces appear in the wavefield. It is demonstrated that these non-physical diffractions can be eliminated by using curved grids that conform to all the interfaces of the subsurface. Methods for solving the 2D acoustic wave equation using such curved grids have been published previously by the authors. Here the extensions to the full 2D elastic wave equations are presented. The curved grids are generated by using the so-called multiblock strategy which is a well-known concept in computational fluid dynamics. In principle the sub-surface is divided into a number of contiguous subdomains. A separate grid is generated for each subdomain patching the grid lines across domain boundaries to obtain a globally continuous grid. Using this approach, even configurations with pinch outs can be handled. The curved grid is taken to constitute a generalized curvilinear coordinate system. Thus, the elastic equations have to be written in a curvilinear frame before applying the numerical scheme. The method implies that twice the number of spatial derivatives have to be evaluated compared to the conventional FSM on a Cartesian grid. However, it is demonstrated that the extra terms are more than compensated for by the fewer grid points needed in the curved approach.  相似文献

The time-domain EM response of a conducting sphere has been subject of past studies with a particular goal of understanding the response of steel unexploded ordnance items. A change in formulas and parameter definition between authors has created inconsistency between published results and analytic formulas. 1984年5月21日的南黄海地震发生在海里,地震观测台站都偏在震中的西侧,距离最近的南通台和崇明台也在100km左右,给地震的精细测定带来了困难。用现有测震方法,得到的南黄海地震序列观测报告,震中分布比较离散。本文在进一步发展了无走时表定位法和相对定位法的基础上,对南黄海地震序列中的3级以上地震的时空参数作了重新测定和分析,取得了较精细的结果。  相似文献

本文根据西德戈丁根(Goettingen)台自1903年装置维肖尔式地震仪以来,连续观测的八十余年记录,选编了中国及其邻区的地震目录。另一方面又根据中国自己编制的中国地震目录已有的几种版本中,汇编了一份1903——1985年M7.0地震最新公布的数据的目录。本文对这两套目录所提供的地震次数及其参数,作了初步对比。为研究中国仪器记录地震所测参数的时间连贯性提供了一个重要机会。本文同时还列出了上述各个中国地震在目前世界上最主要的十四种地震目录中所给出的参数。这使我们能在纵(1903——1985年同一仪器的连续记录中),横(戈丁根台目录、中国目录以及世界主要的十四种目录)两方面来研究中国地震。   相似文献
