The tidal force effects of a spherical galaxy passing head-on through a disk galaxy have been studied at various regions of the disk galaxy and for various orientations of the disk galaxy with respect to the direction of relative motion of the two galaxies. The density distribution of the disk galaxy is taken to be, (r)=ce–4r/R , where c is the central density andR is the radius of the disk. The density distribution of the spherical galaxy is taken to be that of a oolytrope of indexn=4. It is found that as a result of the collision, through the central parts and the outer parts of the disk galaxy remain intact, the region in between these two regions disrupts. Thus a ring galaxy with a nucleus embedded in the ring-i.e., a ring galaxy of the RN-type, is formed.  相似文献

An attempt is made in this paper to determine the coefficient a in a power-law relationship of the form V ~T between the r.m.s. velocity fluctuation, V for raster images with 3 resolution and the temperature, T of line formation using SMM solar data. For T between 8000 and 105 K, the data suggest a best fit with 3/4 < 1. It is argued, however, that unresolved fine structure tends to reduce the observed value of V and that higher resolution data may yield different values for . Skylab data have shown that the non-thermal line broadening velocity, , is proportional to T 1/2. Also, for all temperatures less than 105 K, V . This latter result, however, is again dependent on spatial resolution and may not be true in observations made with sufficient spatial resolution. The magnitudes of both V and indicate that bulk motions play important roles in the structure of the solar atmosphere as well as in its energy and momentum balance. It is important, therefore, to identify the true nature of such motions with better accuracy than is possible with currently available data. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The object of this paper is to investigate the behavior of a magnetic field in a viscous fluid cosmological model. It has been assumed that the expansion () is proportional to the eigenvalue 1 of the shear tensor i j and the coefficient of shearing viscosity is proportional to the scalar of expansion. The paper also discusses the behavior of the model when the magnetic field tends to zero and comments on some other physical properties.  相似文献

The tidal field caused by the second order zonal harmonic of the gravitational field of a planet is discussed according to the fernwirkungsgesetz (principle of local action) of Weyl (1921) introducing an accurate and simple form of the gravitational potential of the planet in elliptic coordinates. It is seen that the tidal field can be described at each point as a small rotation of the local canonical frame which causes a libration and a precession of the axis of rotation of the satellites of the planet. It is also shown that at each point P, is one third of the angle between the line of force through P and the line from P to the center of mass of the planet. All the formulae obtained, to compute and , are in closed form.  相似文献

The time evolution of the velocity dispersion as a function of radius, called v-profiles, of threeN-body simulations of Wielen are presented in units ofr/R G (whereR G is the gravitational or virial radius) and discussed as a function of mass sample. The evolution of the radial and tangential components of the velocity dispersion is discussed, and each v-profile is fitted to a simple power law in the halo (0.15r/R G2.0). Several structural features appear at late time intervals: (a) an upturn in the radial component of v which occurs in a decreasing shell (closer to the core) in time, (b) the v-profile of the massive particles mimics that of the total sample, since equipartition of kinetic energy does not obtain, and (c) a local minimum atr0.3–0.5R G appears in one model which coincides with the local minimum in the number density profiles and possibly with feature (a).The line-of-sight v-profile, called LS-profile, of each model as a function of time and mass sample are also presented and discussed. They contain the same structural features as the v-profiles. Projection factors at small radii are also discussed. The LS-profiles of the models can be compared with the observed velocity dispersion profiles of clusters of galaxies in Struble (1979a).  相似文献

I give an interpretation of a result of Simpsonet al. (1988) on the variation with kinetic energyT i of the mean pathlengthX m (T i ) of the galactic cosmic rays (CGRs) in the range 0.1T i 10.0 GeV nucl–1. I argue that the data onX m (T i ) may be interpreted in terms of a model of GCR diffusion on the one-dimensional Alfvén-wave turbulence, having a cutoff in the spectrum at frequencies h , where h is the proton gyrofrequency. The cutoff results in changing of the character of variation of the GCR diffusion coefficientD(T i )T a in the rangeT i 1 GeV nucl–1 towards some more complicated variation at 0.1T i 1.0 GeV nucl–1 due to the peculiarities of the pitch-angle scattering at 900.  相似文献

Analytic structure of high-density steady isothermal spheres is discussed using the TOV equation of hydrostatic equilibrium which satisfies an equation of state of the kind:P = K g , = g c 2.Approximate analytical solutions to the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations of hydrostatic equilibrium in (, ), (,U) and (u, v) phase planes in concise and simple form useful for short computer programmes or on small calculator, have been given. In Figures 1, 2, and 3, respectively, we display the qualitative behaviours of the ratio of gas density g to the central density gc , g / gc ; pressureP to the gc ,P/ gc ; and the metric componente , for three representative general relativistic (GR) isothermal configurations =0.1, 0.2, and 0.3. Figure 4 shows the solution curve (, ) for =0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 (=0 represents the classical (Newtonian) curve). Numerical values of physical quantitiesv (=4r 2 P *(r)), in steps ofu (=M(r)/r)=0.03, and the mass functionU, in steps of =0.2 (dimensionless radial distance), are given, respectively, in Tables I and II. Other interesting features of the configurations, such as ratio of gravitational radius 2GM/c 2 to the coordinate radiusR, mass distributionM(r)/M, pressure (or density) distributionP/P c , binding energy (B.E.), etc., have also been incorporated in the text. It has further been shown that velocity of sound inside the configurations is always less than the velocity of light.Part of the work done at Azerbaijan State University, Baku, U.S.S.R., and Mosul University, Mosul, Iraq, 1985-1986  相似文献

In order to explain the variable H emission and the eclipse-like light variation of Ori E, we investigated the circumstellar gas trapped by the stellar magnetic field and corotating with the star. By considering the potential along the magnetic field line, we found that the gas concentrates to a potential minimum. The circumstellar gas forms either two condensations or a disk, depending on the inclination of the magnetic dipole to the stellar rotation axis. The geometrical thickness of the circumstellar disk, of about 0.2 stellar radii, and the distance from the center of the star to the inner edge of the disk, of about 3 stellar radii, were obtained. The H emission line profile at its maximum phase and the amplitude of light variation were calculated by assuming the isothermal gas in LTE with the maximum gas density which the magnetic field can hold. The model gives good agreement with observation in the low obliquity case, and also explains the phase correlation among the H emission maximum, the light minimum, and the magnetic extreme. The model, however, failed to explain the large IR excess in theM band.  相似文献

The paper represents the Earth's gravitational potentialV, outside a sphere bounding the Earth, by means of its difference V from the author's spheroidal potential. The difference V is in turn represented as arising from a surface density on the sphere bounding the Earth. Because of the slow decrease with ordern of the normalized coefficients in the spherical harmonic expansion ofV, the density anomalies from which the higher coefficients arise must occur in regions close to the Earth's surface. The surface density is thus an idealization of the product of the density anomaly and the crustal thicknessb. Values of are computed from potential coefficients obtained from two sources, Rapp and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The two sources give qualitative agreement for the values of and for its contour map. The numerical values obtained for are compatible with the idea that the responsible density anomalies are reasonably small, i.e., less than 0.05 g/cm3, and occur in the crust alone. This paper was prepared under the sponsorship of the Electronics Research Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration through NASA Grant NGR 22-009-311.  相似文献

Hall effects on the flow of electrically conducting rarefied gas due to combined buoyant effects of thermal and mass diffusion past an infinite porous plate with constant suction in the presence of strong transverse magnetic field have been investigated. The equations governing the flow poblem have been solved for primary, secondary velocities and temperature. The effects of Hall current, magnetic field and the effect of rarefication have been discussed graphically followed by a discussion.Nomenclature x,y coordinate system - u velocity inx direction - v 0 suction velocity - w velocity inz direction - E Eckert number - G, G* Grashof numbers - h 1 velocity slip coefficient - h 2 temperature jump coefficient - h 3 concentration jump coefficient - M, m magnetic field parameter, Hall parameter - Pr Prandtl number - Sc Schmidt number - T, T w, T temperature in flow regime, plate temperature, temperature outside the boundary layer very away from the plate - C, C w, C concentration of the gas in flow, concentration at the plate, concentration far away from the plate - thermal conductivity - D coefficient of chemical molecular diffusion - coefficient of kinematic viscosity - coefficient of viscosity - electrical conductivity - C p specific heat of gas at constant pressure density  相似文献

A new model for the source distribution of galactic soft X-ray (B and C band) emission is presented. From the mean dependence of count rates on galactic latitudeb (i.e., the brightness distribution), we derive the soft X-ray source functionQ as function of the optical depth by solving the equation of radiative transfer with the aid of a Laplace transform. Contrary to older Heaviside step models,Q is found to increase strongly, but not abruptly, in the range 1.5<<2.5, indicating a noticeable emission of X-rays from beyond theHi scale height. Using standard X-ray absorption cross-sections for the interstellar medium, we find that the B band X-ray emission coefficient is non-zero within theHi disk and has a maximum at az-value slightly above the Hi scale height. In the C band, the emission coefficient slightly decreases with increasingz, at least up to theHi scale height. A non-zero source function near the galactic plane implies that the interstellar medium (ISM) within theHi scale height is not only an absorbing layer but is mixed with X-ray emitting regions. The so-called local hot bubble is adopted as one of these regions. The maximum of the B band emission coefficient, together with the sharp increase ofQ, is strong evidence for the existence of a galactic soft X-ray halo, and, moreover, give rise to the assumption of a general intergalactic X-ray background. The effective absorption cross-sections given in the literature, based on an (pure) exponential dependence in the negative correlation between count rates andHi column densities, were biased to be too small, in particular in the B band. In replacing the Heaviside step (in the ISM) by a smoothed transition region, these inconsistencies become spurious.  相似文献

The study of uniformly polytropes with axial symmetry is extended to include all rotational terms of order 4, where is the angular velocity, consistently within the first post-Newtonian approximation to general relativity. The equilibrium structure is determined by treating the effects of rotation and post-Newtonian gravitation as independent perturbations on the classical polytropic structure. The perturbation effects are characterized by a rotation parameter = 2/2G c and a relativity parameter, =p c / c C 2 , wherep c and c are the central pressure and density respectively. The solution to the structural problem is obtained by following Chandrasekhar's series expansion technique and is complete to the post-Newtonian rotation terms of order 2. The critical rotation parameterv c , which characterizes the configuration with maximum uniform rotation, is accurately evaluated as a function of . Numerical values for all the structural parameters needed to determine the equilibrium configurations are presented for polytropes with indicesn=1, 1.5, 2, 2 5, 3, and 3.5.

The effect of the Earth's magnetic field on the motion of a satellite around its centre of mass is investigated. The satellite is assumed to be dynamically symmetric and to be magnetized in the same direction as that of a principal axis. The Earth's magnetic field is assumed to be a dipole field whose poles coincide with the rotation poles of the Earth. The satellite's orbit is circular and perturbations are neglected. The position of the satellite with respect to its centre of mass is given with respect to a coordinate system fixed in the orbital plane and the motion is described by Euler's angles , , . The spherical symmetry and the coincidence of the magnetic moment with a principal axis allow one to eliminate the angle .The solution for and , can be expanded in power series for small parameter .The series converge for <1. is small for a small magnetic moment or a high angular velocity of the rotating satellite. The terms of the expansion of the series are calculated up to 2.The comparison of the results with those obtained by numerical integration of the differential equation is satisfactory.

Star-like objects are found in Seyfert galaxies Markarian 290, Markarian 298, NGC 1275, and NGC 7469, being connected with the structure peculiarities of the galaxies. The absolute magnitudes of these objects are –16 m M–19 m . It has been supposed that these star formations must stimulate the instability in the disk of the galaxy followed by the matter fall toward the centre of the galaxy. The gas inflow toward the centre will allow the recent star formations and Seyfert nuclei generation.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

Starting November 1999 we are carrying out simultaneous seeing observations with the Solar Differential Image Motion Monitor (S-DIMM) at the Fuxian Lake station of the Yunnan Observatory and a solar scintillometer of the type used in the recent site survey by one of us (Beckers et al., 1997). The purpose was to compare the two methods of assessing the daytime atmospheric seeing for a lake site. We report here the first results of this comparison. We find that the relation between the seeing as measured by the S-DIMM (the Fried parameter r 0) and the scintillation in the solar irradiance (I) differs greatly from the relation found by Seykora (1993) for NSO/Sac Peak. We conclude that the I measurements give a good indication for the amount of near-Earth seeing but that they are a poor proxy for the total atmospheric seeing. We interpret the simultaneous (r 0, I) observations in terms of an atmospheric seeing model and find good quantitative agreement with a model in which a fraction () of the seeing originated near the Earth (ground or water) and the rest (1–) originates at higher layers. For lake sites is small all day and the seeing is determined primarily by the refractive index variations at higher atmospheric layers. For land sites is small in the early morning but rapidly increases as the day progresses, near-Earth seeing dominating there most of the time.  相似文献

The behaviour of the primary and secondary components in a sample of double-lined Algol-type eclipsing binaries in the logg-logT e diagram is analyzed. Our results indicate that the hotter components behave like normal Main-Sequence stars while the effect of irradiation may partly explain the overluminosity of the cool components.Paper presented at the 11th European Regional Astronomical Meetings of the IAU on New Windows to the Universe, held 3–8 July, 1989, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.  相似文献

One-armedglobal oscillations in a non-selfgravitating polytropic disk rotating around a star are investigated. The unperturbed disk is axisymmetric, geometrically thin, and extends infinitely in the radial direction keeping its thickness constant. Perturbations considered are inviscid and adiabatic. It is found that there are one-armed retrograde wave modes which are trapped in an inner region of the disk. The eignefrequency of the lowest order mode is given by K(r s)(z 0/r s)2, wherer s is the radius of the central star,z 0 is the half-thickness of the disk, and K(r s) is the Keplerian angular frequency at the surface of the star.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984.  相似文献

An account is given of the results of a comparison of existing basic selenodetic systems in the equatorial zone of the Moon together with plan and altitude data, which have been provided by means of a specially worked out method, based on the use of the LAC charts of the Moon (scale 1:1000000), and which does not require the presence of common catalogued reference points. It is shown that systematic differences of the form () for different catalogues are, on the whole, relatively small and do not exceed 2. Systematic differences of the form () have a minimum in the region = ± 20° and significantly increase towards the edges of the visible disk, where they may attain a value of 6 between catalogues. Random errors in latitude have on the whole, a similar behaviour in different catalogues, being practically independent of longitude and not exceeding 3. Random errors in longitude significantly increase towards the limb regions in all the studied catalogues, and may reach values of 6 to 8. Author's estimates of the accuracy of absolute heights in selenodetic catalogues is not always sufficiently precise; in certain cases it was found that the accuracy was underestimated by a factor of one and a half. The data on relative heights in the LAC charts are expressed with a vertical step of 300 m, errors in these values are of the order of 250 m for each step in height. As a result of the comparison a set of better points has been obtained forming a catalogue which may be referred to as LPL. The selection was made on the basis of magnitude and character of both the systematic and random errors.  相似文献

The behaviour of magnetic field in anisotropic Bianchi type I cosmological model for perfect fluid distribution in General Relativity, is investigated. The distribution consists of an electrically neutral perfect fluid with an infinite electrical conductivity. It is assumed that the component 1 1 of shear tensor j i is proportional to the expansion () which leads to A = (BC)n. The other physical and geometrical aspects of the model are also discussed, Bali (1986) obtained the cosmological model for n = 1 in presence of magnetic field. We have investigated the model for general values of n and discussed the particular case and general behaviour of the model.  相似文献
