Accurate forecasting of sediment is an important issue for reservoir design and water pollution control in rivers and reservoirs. In this study, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approach is used to construct monthly sediment forecasting system. To illustrate the applicability of ANFIS method the Great Menderes basin is chosen as the study area. The models with various input structures are constructed for the purpose of identification of the best structure. The performance of the ANFIS models in training and testing sets are compared with the observed data. To get more accurate evaluation of the results ANFIS models, the best fit model structures are also tested by artificial neural networks (ANN) and multiple linear regression (MLR) methods. The results of three methods are compared, and it is observed that the ANFIS is preferable and can be applied successfully because it provides high accuracy and reliability for forecasting of monthly total sediment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Accurate runoff forecasting plays a key role in catchment water management and water resources system planning. To improve the prediction accuracy, one needs to strive to develop a reliable and accurate forecasting model for streamflow. In this study, the novel combination of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model with the shuffled frog-leaping algorithm (SFLA) is proposed. Historical streamflow data of two different rivers were collected to examine the performance of the proposed model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed ANFIS-SFLA model, six different scenarios for the model input–output architecture were investigated. The results show that the proposed ANFIS-SFLA model (R2 = 0.88; NS = 0.88; RMSE = 142.30 (m3/s); MAE = 88.94 (m3/s); MAPE = 35.19%) significantly improved the forecasting accuracy and outperformed the classic ANFIS model (R2 = 0.83; NS = 0.83; RMSE = 167.81; MAE = 115.83 (m3/s); MAPE = 45.97%). The proposed model could be generalized and applied in different rivers worldwide.  相似文献

Two types of fuzzy inference systems (FIS) are used for predicting municipal water consumption time series. The FISs used include an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and a Mamdani fuzzy inference systems (MFIS). The prediction models are constructed based on the combination of the antecedent values of water consumptions. The performance of ANFIS and MFIS models in training and testing phases are compared with the observations and the best fit model is identified according to the selected performance criteria. The results demonstrated that the ANFIS model is superior to MFIS models and can be successfully applied for prediction of water consumption time series.  相似文献

WANFIS, a conjunction model of discreet wavelet transform (DWT) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was developed for forecasting the current-day flow in a river when only available data are historical flows. Discreet wavelet transform decomposed the observed flow time series (OFTS) into wavelet components which captured useful information on three resolution levels. A smoothened flow time series (SFTS) was formed by filtering out the noise wavelet components and recombining the effective wavelet components. WANFIS model is essentially an ANFIS model with SFTS hydrograph as the input, while ANFIS and autoregression (AR) models, developed for comparison purpose, use OFTS hydrograph as input. For performance evaluation, the developed models were utilized for predicting daily monsoon flows for the Gandak River in Bihar state of India. During monsoon (June–October), this river carries large flows making the entire North Bihar unsafe for habitation or cultivation. Based on various performance indices, it was concluded that WANFIS models simulate the monsoon flows in the Gandak more reliably than ANFIS and AR models. The best performing WANFIS model, with four previous days’ flows as input, predicted the current-day Gandak flows with 80.7% accuracy while ANFIS and AR models predicted it with only 71.8 and 51.2% accuracies.  相似文献

Accurate forecasting of hydrological time‐series is a quite important issue for a wise and sustainable use of water resources. In this study, an adaptive neuro‐fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approach is used to construct a time‐series forecasting system. In particular, the applicability of an ANFIS to the forecasting of the time‐series is investigated. To illustrate the applicability and capability of an ANFIS, the River Great Menderes, located in western Turkey, is chosen as a case study area. The advantage of this method is that it uses the input–output data sets. A total of 5844 daily data sets collected from 1985 to 2000 are used for the time‐series forecasting. Models having various input structures were constructed and the best structure was investigated. In addition, four various training/testing data sets were built by cross‐validation methods and the best data set was obtained. The performance of the ANFIS models in training and testing sets was compared with observations and also evaluated. In order to get an accurate and reliable comparison, the best‐fit model structure was also trained and tested by artificial neural networks and traditional time‐series analysis techniques and the results compared. The results indicate that the ANFIS can be applied successfully and provide high accuracy and reliability for time‐series modelling. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Evaporation, as a major component of the hydrologic cycle, plays a key role in water resources development and management in arid and semi-arid climatic regions. Although there are empirical formulas available, their performances are not all satisfactory due to the complicated nature of the evaporation process and the data availability. This paper explores evaporation estimation methods based on artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) techniques. It has been found that ANN and ANFIS techniques have much better performances than the empirical formulas (for the test data set, ANN R2 = 0.97, ANFIS R2 = 0.92 and Marciano R2 = 0.54). Between ANN and ANFIS, ANN model is slightly better albeit the difference is small. Although ANN and ANFIS techniques seem to be powerful, their data input selection process is quite complicated. In this research, the Gamma test (GT) has been used to tackle the problem of the best input data combination and how many data points should be used in the model calibration. More studies are needed to gain wider experience about this data selection tool and how it could be used in assessing the validation data.  相似文献

This paper presents a new approach to improving real‐time reservoir operation. The approach combines two major procedures: the genetic algorithm (GA) and the adaptive network‐based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The GA is used to search the optimal reservoir operating histogram based on a given inflow series, which can be recognized as the base of input–output training patterns in the next step. The ANFIS is then built to create the fuzzy inference system, to construct the suitable structure and parameters, and to estimate the optimal water release according to the reservoir depth and inflow situation. The practicability and effectiveness of the approach proposed is tested on the operation of the Shihmen reservoir in Taiwan. The current M‐5 operating rule curves of the Shihmen reservoir are also evaluated. The simulation results demonstrate that this new approach, in comparison with the M‐5 rule curves, has superior performance with regard to the prediction of total water deficit and generalized shortage index (GSI). A data-driven model based on an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was tested for the estimation of suspended sediment concentrations within watersheds influenced by agriculture. ANFIS models were developed using different combinations of inputs such as precipitation, streamflow, surface runoff and the watershed vulnerability index. A multi-watershed ANFIS model was also developed combining the datasets from all studied watersheds. The best results were obtained from a combination of precipitation, streamflow and watershed vulnerability index as input variables. Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients were improved for the multi-watershed ANFIS compared to watershed-specific ANFIS models. The introduction of the erosion vulnerability index significantly improved the ability of the ANFIS model to estimate suspended sediment concentrations within the watersheds. Furthermore, the inclusion of this index opens the possibility of using the ANFIS model to investigate the impact of land-use changes on sediment delivery.  相似文献

The use of electrical conductivity (EC) as a water quality indicator is useful for estimating the mineralization and salinity of water. The objectives of this study were to explore, for the first time, extreme learning machine (ELM) and wavelet-extreme learning machine hybrid (WA-ELM) models to forecast multi-step-ahead EC and to employ an integrated method to combine the advantages of WA-ELM models, which utilized the boosting ensemble method. For comparative purposes, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model, and a WA-ANFIS model, were also developed. The study area was the Aji-Chay River at the Akhula hydrometric station in Northwestern Iran. A total of 315 monthly EC (µS/cm) datasets (1984–2011) were used, in which the first 284 datasets (90% of total datasets) were considered for training and the remaining 31 (10% of total datasets) were used for model testing. Autocorrelation function (ACF) and partial autocorrelation function (PACF) demonstrated that the 6-month lags were potential input time lags. The results illustrated that the single ELM and ANFIS models were unable to forecast the multi-step-ahead EC in terms of root mean square error (RMSE), coefficient of determination (R2) and Nash–Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient (NSC). To develop the hybrid WA-ELM and WA-ANFIS models, the original time series of lags as inputs, and time series of 1, 2 and 3 month-step-ahead EC values as outputs, were decomposed into several sub-time series using different maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) functions, namely Daubechies, Symlet, Haar and Coiflet of different orders at level three. These sub-time series were then used in the ELM and ANFIS models as an input dataset to forecast the multi-step-ahead EC. The results indicated that single WA-ELM and WA-ANFIS models performed better than any ELM and ANFIS models. Also, WA-ELM models outperformed WA-ANFIS models. To develop the boosting multi-WA-ELM and multi-WA-ANFIS ensemble models, a least squares boosting (LSBoost) algorithm was used. The results showed that boosting multi-WA-ELM and multi-WA-ANFIS ensemble models outperformed the individual WA-ELM and WA-ANFIS models.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Infiltration plays a fundamental role in streamflow, groundwater recharge, subsurface flow, and surface and subsurface water quality and quantity. In this study, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) models were used to determine cumulative infiltration and infiltration rate in arid areas in Iran. The input data were sand, clay, silt, density of soil and soil moisture, while the output data were cumulative infiltration and infiltration rate, the latter measured using a double-ring infiltrometer at 16 locations. The results show that SVM with radial basis kernel function better estimated cumulative infiltration (RMSE = 0.2791 cm) compared to the other models. Also, SVM with M4 radial basis kernel function better estimated the infiltration rate (RMSE = 0.0633 cm/h) than the ANFIS and RF models. Thus, SVM was found to be the most suitable model for modelling infiltration in the study area.  相似文献

Accurate water level forecasts are essential for flood warning. This study adopts a data‐driven approach based on the adaptive network–based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to forecast the daily water levels of the Lower Mekong River at Pakse, Lao People's Democratic Republic. ANFIS is a hybrid system combining fuzzy inference system and artificial neural networks. Five ANFIS models were developed to provide water level forecasts from 1 to 5 days ahead, respectively. The results show that although ANFIS forecasts of water levels up to three lead days satisfied the benchmark, four‐ and five‐lead‐day forecasts were only slightly better in performance compared with the currently adopted operational model. This limitation is imposed by the auto‐ and cross‐correlations of the water level time series. Output updating procedures based on the autoregressive (AR) and recursive AR (RAR) models were used to enhance ANFIS model outputs. The RAR model performed better than the AR model. In addition, a partial recursive procedure that reduced the number of recursive steps when applying the AR or the RAR model for multi‐step‐ahead error prediction was superior to the fully recursive procedure. The RAR‐based partial recursive updating procedure significantly improved three‐, four‐ and five‐lead‐day forecasts. Our study further shows that for long lead times, ANFIS model errors are dominated by lag time errors. Although the ANFIS model with the RAR‐based partial recursive updating procedure provided the best results, this method was able to reduce the lag time errors significantly for the falling limbs only. Improvements for the rising limbs were modest. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The growing shortage of freshwater resources and increasing environmental awareness give rise to the use of treated wastewater as an alternative resource for water supply. Accurate estimation of wastewater evaporation (WWE), as the main cause of water losses, is necessary for proper water resources management. Unfortunately, few studies have focused on modelling WWE despite its vital importance. This study investigates the ability of gene expression programming (GEP), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and artificial neural networks (ANN) techniques to estimate WWE as a function of variables including wastewater properties, clear water evaporation and climatic factors. The study uses measured data from an experiment conducted in Neishaboor municipal wastewater treatment plant, Iran. Results indicate that the ANN model is superior among the three methods, and also demonstrates higher accuracy when compared with those of a dimensional analysis model using the F-test statistic.  相似文献

Developing a hydrological forecasting model based on past records is crucial to effective hydropower reservoir management and scheduling. Traditionally, time series analysis and modeling is used for building mathematical models to generate hydrologic records in hydrology and water resources. Artificial intelligence (AI), as a branch of computer science, is capable of analyzing long-series and large-scale hydrological data. In recent years, it is one of front issues to apply AI technology to the hydrological forecasting modeling. In this paper, autoregressive moving-average (ARMA) models, artificial neural networks (ANNs) approaches, adaptive neural-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) techniques, genetic programming (GP) models and support vector machine (SVM) method are examined using the long-term observations of monthly river flow discharges. The four quantitative standard statistical performance evaluation measures, the coefficient of correlation (R), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (E), root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), are employed to evaluate the performances of various models developed. Two case study river sites are also provided to illustrate their respective performances. The results indicate that the best performance can be obtained by ANFIS, GP and SVM, in terms of different evaluation criteria during the training and validation phases.  相似文献

Abstract

The main aim of this study is to develop a flow prediction method, based on the adaptive neural-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) coupled with stochastic hydrological models. An ANFIS methodology is applied to river flow prediction in Dim Stream in the southern part of Turkey. Application is given for hydrological time series modelling. Synthetic series, generated through autoregressinve moving-average (ARMA) models, are then used for training data sets of the ANFIS. It is seen that the extension of input and output data sets in the training stage improves the accuracy of forecasting by using ANFIS.  相似文献

This paper proposes a dynamic modeling methodology based on a dynamic neuro-fuzzy local modeling system (DNFLMS) with a nonlinear feature extraction technique for an online dynamic modeling task. Prior to model building, a nonlinear feature extraction technique called the Gamma test (GT) is proposed to compute the lowest mean squared error (MSE) that can be achieved and the quantity of data required to obtain a reliable model. Two different DNFLMS modes are developed: (1) an online one-pass clustering and the extended Kalman filtering algorithm (mode 1); and (2) hybrid learning algorithm (mode 2) of extended Kalman filtering algorithm with a back-propagation algorithm trained to the estimated MSE and number of data points determined by a nonlinear feature extraction technique. The proposed modeling methodology is applied to develop an online dynamic prediction system of river temperature to waste cooling water discharge at 1?km downstream from a thermal power station from real-time to time ahead (2?h) sequentially at the new arrival of each item of river, hydrological, meteorological, power station operational data. It is demonstrated that the DNFLMS modes 1 and 2 shows a better prediction performance and less computation time required, compared to a well-known adaptive neural-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) trained with the back propagation (BP) learning algorithm, due to local generalization approach and one-pass learning algorithm implemented in the DNFLMS. It is shown that the DNFLMS mode 1 is that it can be used for an online modeling task without a large amount of training set required by the off-line learning algorithm of MLP-BP and ANFIS. The integration of the DNFLMS mode 2 with a nonlinear feature extraction technique shows that it can improve model generalization capability and reduce model development time by eliminating iterative procedures of model construction using a stopping criterion in training and the quantity of required available data in training given by the GT.  相似文献

Regional flood frequency analysis (RFFA) was carried out on data for 55 hydrometric stations in Namak Lake basin, Iran, for the period 1992–2012. Flood discharge of specific return periods was computed based on the log Pearson Type III distribution, selected as the best regional distribution. Independent variables, including physiographic, meteorological, geological and land-use variables, were derived and, using three strategies – gamma test (GT), GT plus classification and expert opinion – the best input combination was selected. To select the best technique for regionalization, support vector regression (SVR), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), artificial neural network (ANN) and nonlinear regression (NLR) techniques were applied to predict peak flood discharge for 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, 50- and 100-year return periods. The GT + ANFIS and GT + SVR models gave better performance than the ANN and NLR models in the RFFA. The results of the input variable selection showed that the GT technique improved the model performance.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, mathematical models are widely used to predict climate processes, but little has been done to compare the models. In this study, multiple linear regression (MLR), multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) models were compared for precipitation forecasting. The large-scale climate signals were considered as inputs to the applied models. After selecting the most effective climate indices, the effects of large-scale climate signals on the seasonal standardized precipitation index (SPI) of the Maharlu-Bakhtaran catchment, Iran, simultaneously and with a delay, was analysed using a cross-correlation function. Hence, the SPI time series was forecasted up to four time intervals using MLR, MLP and ANFIS. The results showed that most of the indices were significant with SPI of different lag times. Comparison of the SPI forecast results by MLR, MLP and ANFIS models showed better performance for the MLP network than the other two models (RMSE = 0.86, MAE = 0.74 for the first step ahead of SPI forecasting).

A methodology is proposed for constructing a flood forecast model using the adaptive neuro‐fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). This is based on a self‐organizing rule‐base generator, a feedforward network, and fuzzy control arithmetic. Given the rainfall‐runoff patterns, ANFIS could systematically and effectively construct flood forecast models. The precipitation and flow data sets of the Choshui River in central Taiwan are analysed to identify the useful input variables and then the forecasting model can be self‐constructed through ANFIS. The analysis results suggest that the persistent effect and upstream flow information are the key effects for modelling the flood forecast, and the watershed's average rainfall provides further information and enhances the accuracy of the model performance. For the purpose of comparison, the commonly used back‐propagation neural network (BPNN) is also examined. The forecast results demonstrate that ANFIS is superior to the BPNN, and ANFIS can effectively and reliably construct an accurate flood forecast model. Prediction of factors affecting water resources systems is important for their design and operation. In hydrology, wavelet analysis (WA) is known as a new method for time series analysis. In this study, WA was combined with an artificial neural network (ANN) for prediction of precipitation at Varayeneh station, western Iran. The results obtained were compared with the adaptive neural fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and ANN. Moreover, data on relative humidity and temperature were employed in addition to rainfall data to examine their influence on precipitation forecasting. Overall, this study concluded that the hybrid WANN model outperformed the other models in the estimation of maxima and minima, and is the best at forecasting precipitation. Furthermore, training and transfer functions are recommended for similar studies of precipitation forecasting.  相似文献

Inflow forecasting is essential for decision making on reservoir operation during typhoons. In this paper, a radial basis function (RBF)‐based model with an information processor is proposed for more accurate forecasts of hourly reservoir inflow. Firstly, based on the multilayer perceptron neural (MLP) network, an information processor is developed to pre‐process the typhoon information (namely, typhoon characteristics and rainfall) and to produce forecasts of rainfall. The forecasted rainfall and the observed inflow are then used as input to the RBF‐based model, which is a nonlinear function approximator, to produce forecasts of hourly inflow. For parameter estimation of the RBF‐based model, the fully‐supervised learning algorithm is used. Actual applications of the proposed model are performed to yield 1‐ to 6‐h ahead forecasts of inflow. To assess the improvement due to the use of the typhoon information processor, models without the typhoon information processor are constructed and compared with the proposed model. The results show that the proposed model performs the best and is capable of providing improved forecasts of hourly inflow, especially for long lead‐time. In conclusion, the proposed model with a typhoon information processor can extract useful information from typhoon characteristics and rainfall, and consequently improve the forecasting performance.
