The similarities in certain empirical relations derived for active galactic nuclei (AGN) and radio pulsars support the idea that the energy release in the jets of AGN is electrodynamical, associated with the presence of a massive central object (MCO) and circumnuclear, magnetized Keplerian disk. For example, in both types of object, the radio luminosities are proportional to characteristic time scales—for precession for AGN or rotation for pulsars—to the 0.8 power. In this approach to studying the nature of the activity, the $\dot P - P$ relation for pulsars can be considered analogous to the P r-M MCO relation for AGN, which has the form P 5GHz (W/Hz)=2.73 log(M MCO/M )?2.87.  相似文献

The luminosity L of radio pulsars due to synchrotron radiation by the primary beam at the magnetosphere periphery is derived. There is a strong correlation between the observed optical luminosities of radio pulsars and the parameter $\dot P/P^4$ (where P is the pulsar period). This correlation predicts appreciable optical emission from several dozen pulsars, in particular, from all those with P<0.1 s. Agreement with optical observations can be achieved for Lorentz factors of the secondary plasma γp=2–13. Plasma with such energies can be produced only when the magnetic-field structure near the neutron-star surface deviates substantially from a dipolar field. The peak frequency of the synchrotron spectrum should shift toward higher values as the pulsar period P decreases; this is, in agreement with observational data for 27 radio pulsars for which emission has been detected outside the radio band.  相似文献

Parameters of 100 radio pulsars detected outside the radio range (he pulsars) are compared with those of pulsars radiating only in the radio (n pulsars). The periods of he pulsars are, on average, appreciably shorter than those of n pulsars: 〈P〉 = 0.10 and 0.56 s, respectively. The distribution of the magnetic field at the light cylinder is shifted toward higher magnetic fields for the pulsars with high-energy radiation, compared to the distribution for pulsars radiating only in the radio. The magnetic fields at the light cylinder are 〈B lc〉 = 9×103 G for he radio pulsars, and 〈Blc〉 = 56 G formost purely radio pulsars. This suggests the generation of high-energy nonthermal radiation in radio pulsars at the peripheries of their magnetospheres. The distribution of the spin-energy loss rate dE/dt is uniform for he pulsars, and is characterized by a higher average value \(\left( {\left\langle {\log \frac{{dE}} {{dt}}} \right\rangle = 35.53} \right) \) , compared to n pulsars, \(\left( {\left\langle {\log \frac{{dE}} {{dt}}} \right\rangle = 32.60} \right) \) . The spatial distribution of he pulsars is nonuniform: they form two well separated clouds.  相似文献

A comparative analysis of various parameters of pulsars with short (P < 0.1 s) and long (P > 0.1 s) periods is carried out. There is no correlation between the radio and gamma-ray luminosities of the pulsars and their surfacemagnetic fields, but there is a correlation between the X-ray luminosity and the surfacemagnetic field. A dependence of the X-ray and gamma-ray luminosities on the magnetic field at the light cylinder is also found. This result provides evidence for the formation of hard, non-thermal emission at the periphery of the magnetosphere. An appreciable positive correlation between the luminosity and the rate of rotational energy loss by the neutron star is observed, supporting the idea that all radio pulsars have the same basic source of energy. The efficiency of the transformation of rotational energy into radiation is significantly higher in long-period pulsars. The dependence of the pulse width on the pulsar period is steeper for pulsars with short periods than for those with long periods. The results obtained support earlier assertions that there are differences in the processes generating the emission in pulsars with P < 0.1 s and those with P > 0.1 s.  相似文献

The integrated radio luminosities of 311 long-period (P > 0.1 s) and 27 short-period (P < 0.1 s) pulsars have been calculated using a new compilation of radio spectra. The luminosities are in the range 1027 ? 1030 erg/s for 88% of the long-period pulsars and 1028 ? 1031 erg/s for 88% of the short-period pulsars. We find a high correlation between the luminosity L and the estimate L 1 = S 400 d 2 from the catalog of Taylor et al. The factor η for the transformation of the rotational energy of the neutron star into radio emission increases-decreases with increasing period for long-period and short-period pulsars. The mean value of η is ?3.73 for the long-period and ?4.85 for short-period pulsars. No dependence was found between L and the pulsar’s kinematic age t k = |z|/〈v z〉, where |z| and 〈v z〉 = 300 km/s are the pulsars’ height above the plane of the Galaxy and mean velocity. A dependence of L on the rate of rotational energy losses ? was found for both groups of pulsars. It is shown that L? 1/3 for the entire sample. The pulsar luminosity function is constructed, and the total number and birth rate of pulsars in the Galaxy are calculated.  相似文献

The rotational periods P, period derivatives dP/dt, and magnetic fields B in the region where the emission of anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs) and soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) is generated are calculated using a model that associates the emission of these objects with the existence of drift waves at the periphery of the magnetosphere of a neutron star. The values obtained for these parameters are P = 11?737 ms, dP/dt = 3.7 × 10?16?5.5 × 10?12, and log B (G) = 2.63?6.25. We find a dependence between the X-ray luminosity of AXPs and SGRs, L x, and the rate at which they lose rotational energy, dE/dt, which is similar to the L x(dE/dt) dependence for radio pulsars with detected X-ray emission. Within the errors, AXPs/SGRs and radio pulsars with short periods (P < 0.1 s) display the same slopes for their log(dP/dt)-log P relations and for the dependence of the efficiency of their transformation of rotational energy into radiation on their periods. A dipole model is used to calculate the surface magnetic fields of the neutron stars in AXPs and SGRs, which turn out to be, on average, comparable to the surface fields of normal radio pulsars (〈log B s (G)〉 = 11.90).  相似文献

Weak, compact radio sources (~100 mJy peak flux, L~1–10 pc) with their spectral peaks at about a gigahertz are studied, based on the complete sample of 46 radio sources of Snellen, drawn from high-sensitivity surveys, including the low-frequency Westerbork catalog. The physical parameters have been estimated for 14 sources: the magnetic field (H ), the number density of relativistic particles (n e), the energy of the magnetic field $(E_{H_ \bot } )$ , and the energy of relativistic particles (E e). Ten sources have $E_{H_ \bot } \ll E_e $ , three have approximate equipartition of the energies $(E_{H_ \bot } \sim E_e )$ , and only one has $E_{H_ \bot } \gg E_e $ . The mean magnetic fields in quasars (10?3 G) and galaxies (10?2 G) have been estimated. The magnetic field appears to be related to the sizes of compact features as $H \sim 1/\sqrt L $ .  相似文献

The parameters of radio pulsars in binary systems and globular clusters are investigated. It is shown that such pulsars tend to have short periods (of the order of several milliseconds). Themagnetic fields of most of the pulsars considered are weak (surface fields of the order of 108?109 G). This corresponds to the generally accepted view that short-period neutron stars are spun up by angular momentum associated with the stellar wind from a companion. However, the fields at the light cylinders in these objects are two to three orders of magnitude higher than for the main population of single neutron stars. The dependence of the pulse width on the period does not differ from the corresponding dependences for single pulsars, assuming the emission is generated inside the polar cap, at moderate distances from the surface or near the light cylinder. The radio luminosities of pulsars in binary systems do not show the correlation with the rate of loss of rotational energy that is characteristic for single pulsars, probably due to the influence of accreting matter from a companion. Moreover, accretion apparently decreases the power of the emergent radiation, and can explain the observed systematic excess of the radio luminosity of single pulsars compared to pulsars in binary systems. The distributions and dependences presented in the article support generally accepted concepts concerning the processes occurring in binary systems containing neutron stars.  相似文献

A new model is put forward to explain the observed features of anomalous X-ray pulsars (AXPs) and soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs). It is shown that drift waves can be excited in the magnetosphere of a neutron star with a rotational period of P~0.1 s, surface magnetic field Bs~1012 G, and angle between the rotational axis and magnetic moment β<10°. These waves lead to the formation of radiation pulses with a period of Pdr~10 s. The rate of loss of rotational energy by such a star (~1037 erg/s) is sufficient to produce the observed increase in the period \((\dot P \sim 10^{ - 10} )\), the X-ray luminosities of AXPs and SGRs (~1034–1036 erg/s), and an injection of relativistic particles into the surrounding supernova remnant. A modulation of the constant component of the radiation with a period of P~0.1 s is predicted. In order for SGRs to produce gamma-ray bursts, an additional source of energy must be invoked. Radio pulsars with periods of Pobs>5 s can be described by the proposed model; in this case, their rotational periods are considerably less than Pobs and the observed pulses are due to the drift waves.  相似文献

The paper considers triple encounters in the linear three-body problem for the case of equal masses. Triple encounters are described using two parameters: the virial coefficient k and the angle ? such that tan $\varphi = \dot r/\dot \rho$ , where $\dot r$ and $\dot \rho$ are the velocities of the “central” body relative to each of the “outer” bodies. The equations of motion are integrated numerically up to one of the following times: the time for a receding body to turn, the time for this body to reach some critical distance, the time for some escape criterion to be fulfilled, or to some critical time. Evolutionary scenarios for the triple system are determined as a function of the initial conditions. The dependences of the ejection length on k and $\dot \varphi$ are derived. The initial conditions corresponding to escape form a continuous region with k>0.5. The regions into which the right and left bodies depart alternate and are symmetrical about the lines of triple close encounters (?=45°,225°). Regions of stable motions in the vicinity of the central periodic orbit of Schubart (k?0.206; ?=135°,315°) are identified. Linear structures emanate from the peak of the region of stability, which divide the region for the initial conditions into alternating zones with identical evolutionary scenarios.  相似文献

It is shown that a model with accretion in a “quasi-propeller” mode can explain the observed spindown of pulsars with periods P<0.1 s. The mean accretion rate for 39 selected objects is \(\dot M = 5.6 \times 10^{ - 11} M_ \odot /year\). If \(\dot M\) is constant during the pulsar’s lifetime, the neutron star will stop rotating after 107 years. The mean magnetic field at the neutron-star surface calculated in this model, \(\bar H_0 = 6.8 \times 10^8 G\), is consistent to an order of magnitude with the values of H0 for millisecond pulsars from known catalogs. However, the actual value of H0 for particular objects can differ from the catalog values by appreciable factors, and these quantities must be recalculated using more adequate models. The accretion disk around the neutron star should not impede the escape of the pulsar’s radiation, since this radiation is generated near the light cylinder in pulsars with P<0.1 s. Pulsars such as PSR 0531+21 and PSR 0833-45 have probably spun down due to the effect of magnetic-dipole radiation. If the difference in the braking indices for these objects from n=3 is due to the effect of accretion, the accretion rate must be of the order of 1018 g/s.  相似文献

A method is proposed for estimating the distances to extragalactic radio sources using spec-troscopic data on the sizes of the broad-line regions of quasars and radio galaxies R BL and VLBI data on the transverse angular sizes of the radio jets emerging from their nuclei (θ θ j ). This approach is based on the fact that observational data on the transverse linear sizes of radio jets (l θ j ) associated with the nearest radio sources and theoretical concepts about the formation of radio jets in the central regions of a magnetized accretion disk suggest that (l θ j ) and R BL should be approximately equal.  相似文献

We have modeled the Hα, Hβ, and Hγ (Balmer series), P14 (Paschen series), and Brγ (Brackett series) hydrogen lines formed in the inner regions of the accretion disk around the Herbig Ae star UX Ori. Our calculations are based on spectra obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) and the IRTF. We computed a grid of non-LTE models for a radiating area in the accretion disk and determined the basic parameters of the lines using the method of Sobolev. Analyzing the theoretical and observed line profiles, equivalent widths, and luminosities, we have estimated the accretion rate and electron-temperature distribution in the inner parts of the accretion disk. The accretion rate of UX Ori is about $\dot M_a = (3 - 10) \times 10^{ - 9} M_ \odot /yr$ , and the temperature distribution is consistent with the power law T(r)=T(r *)(r/r *)?1/n , where the electron temperature near the stellar surface T(r *) is 15000–20000 K and the power-law index n≈2–3 is about two to three. The resulting value for $\dot M_a $ eliminates problems connected with the application of magnetospheric accretion models to Herbig Ae/Be stars. Another important conclusion is that, at the estimated accretion rate, the energy release is substantially (about two orders of magnitude) lower than the stellar luminosity. Therefore, the optical radiation of UX Ori accretion disks cannot appreciably contribute to the observed variability of these stars, which must be determined mainly by variability in the circumstellar extinction.  相似文献

The diffusion of water in natural obsidian and model dacitic melts (Ab90Di8Wo2, mol %) has been studied at water vapor pressure up to 170 MPa, temperatures of 1200°C, H2O contents in melts up to ~6 wt % using a high gas pressure apparatus equipped with a unique internal device. The experiments were carried out by a new low-gradient technique with application of diffusion hydration of a melt from fluid phase. The water solubility in the melts and its concentration along $C_{H_2 O} $ diffusion profiles were determined using IR microspectrometry by application of the modified Bouguer-Beer-Lambert equation. A structural-chemical model was proposed to calculate and predict the concentration dependence of molar absorption coefficients of the hydroxyl groups (OH?) and water molecules (H2O) in acid polymerized glasses (quenched melts) in the obsidian-dacite series. The water diffusion coefficients $D_{H_2 O} $ were obtained by the mathematical analysis of concentration profiles and the analytical solution of the second Fick diffusion law using the Boltzman-Matano method. It was shown experimentally that $D_{H_2 O} $ exponentially increases with a growth of water concentration in the obsidian and dacitic melts within the entire range of diffusion profiles. Based on the established quantitative correlation between $D_{H_2 O} $ and viscosity of such melts, a new method was developed to predict and calculate the concentration, temperature, and pressure dependences of $D_{H_2 O} $ in acid magmatic melts (obsidian, rhyolite, albite, granite, dacite) at crustal T, P parameters and water concentrations up to 6 wt %.  相似文献

An analysis of the basic parameters of a sample of radio and X-ray pulsars that are members of close binary systems is used to separate them into several families according to the nature of the pulsar companions and the previous evolution of the systems. To quantitatively describe the main parameters of close binaries containing neutron stars, we have performed numerical modeling of their evolution. The main driving forces of the evolution of these systems are the nuclear evolution of the donor, the magnetically coupled and radiation-induced stellar winds of the donor, and gravitational-wave radiation. We have considered donors that are low-mass stars in various stages of their evolution, nondegenerate helium stars, and degenerate stars. The systems studied are either the products of the normal evolution of close binaries with large initial component-mass ratios or result from inelastic collisions of old neutron stars with single and binary low-mass, main-sequence stars in the dense cores of globular clusters. The formation of single millisecond pulsars requires either the dynamical disruption of a low-mass (?0.1M) donor or its complete evaporation under the action of the X-ray radiation of the millisecond pulsar. The observed properties of binary radio pulsars with eccentric orbits combined with the bimodal spatial-velocity distribution of single radio pulsars suggest that it may be possible to explain the observed rotational and spatial motions of all radio pulsars as a result of their formation in close binaries. In this case, neutron stars formed from massive single stars or the components of massive wide binaries probably cannot acquire the high spatial velocities or rapid rotation rates that are required for the birth of a radio pulsar.  相似文献

This papers reviews elastic constant systematics. The bulk modulus of oxides and silicates is generally predictable on the basis of density and mean atomic weight. For constant mean atomic weight, \(\bar M\) , the bulk modulus is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the molar volume, regardless of whether molar volume changes due to temperature,T, pressure,P, or crystal structure. This iso- \(\bar M\) trend has the explanation that the Grüneisen parameter, (?K/?P) T , and ?(1/αK)(?K/?T) P , whereK is bulk modulus and α is volumetric thermal expansion, are approximately constant for most materials. For isostructural compounds, the bulk modulus is inversely proportional to the molar volume. This isostructural trend has the explanation that a certain combination of interatomic force parameters are the same for isostructural compounds. Equivalent iso- \(\bar M\) and isostructural trends are discussed for velocity versus density. Exceptions to the systematics exist.  相似文献

Various mechanisms for the loss of angular momentum of neutron stars are analyzed. Theoretical predictions about the evolution of the period are compared with the observed distribution of pulsars on the log\(\dot P\)log(P) diagram. Pulsars with short periods (P≤0.1 s) cannot be fit well by any of the models considered. Their braking index is n=?1, which requires the development of a new braking mechanism. The evolution of pulsars with P>1.25 s is described by the law \(\dot P \propto P^2\), probably due to processes internal to the neutron stars. The observational data for pulsars with 0.1<P≤1.25 s can be fit with a hybrid model incorporating internal processes and magnetic-dipole losses. The magnetic fields in pulsar catalogs should be recomputed in accordance with the results obtained. For example, the magnetic fields obtained for two magnetars with P=5.16 s and P=7.47 s are B s =1.7×1013 and 2.9×1013 G, which are lower than the critical field Bcr=4.4×1013 G. For a substantial fraction of pulsars, their characteristic ages \(\tau = P/2\dot P\) cannot serve as measures of their real ages.  相似文献

A relationship between the energy gap (E G) and the density (ρ) over mean atomic weight (〈A〉) ratio for Fe-poor oxide and silicate minerals is derived from simple properties of their free atom-components. Theoretical considerations are based on the Lorentz electron theory of solids. The eigenfrequency ν 0 of elementary electron oscillators, in energy units h ν 0, is identified with the energy gap of a solid. The numerical relation is of the form $$(\langle U_0 \rangle ^2 - E_G^2 )\frac{{\langle A\rangle }}{\rho } = \frac{4}{3}\pi \hbar ^2 \frac{{e^2 }}{m}N = 276.79 eV^2 cm^3 /mol$$ where 〈U 0〉 is the average first ionization potential (per free atom), ? is crossed Planck's constant, e is the electron charge, m is the electron rest mass, and N is Avogadro's number. For several geophysically interesting oxide and silicate minerals which are in general composed of four different elements (O, Si, Mg and Al), we obtain from laboratory data that the mean value of $$\left\langle {[\langle U_0 \rangle ^2 - (E_G^{lab} )^2 ]\frac{{\langle A\rangle }}{\rho }} \right\rangle \approx 248.2 \pm 20.9eV^2 cm^3 /mol.$$ .  相似文献

The temperature dependences of the crystal structure and superstructure intensities in sodium nitrate, mineral name nitratine, NaNO3, were studied using Rietveld structure refinements based on synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. Nitratine transforms from $R{\overline{3}} c\;\hbox{to}\;R{\overline{3}} m$ at T c = 552(1) K. A NO3 group occupies, statistically, two positions with equal frequency in the disordered $R{\overline{3}} m$ phase, but with unequal frequency in the partially ordered $R{\overline{3}} c$ phase. One position for the NO3 group is rotated by 60° or 180° with respect to the other. The occupancy of the two orientations in the $R{\overline{3}} c$ phase is obtained from the occupancy factor, x, for the O1 site and gives rise to the order parameter, S = 2x ? 1, where S is 0 at T c and 1 at 0 K. The NO3 groups rotate in a rapid process from about 541 to T c, where the a axis contracts. Using a modified Bragg–Williams model, a good fit was obtained for the normalized intensities (that is, normalized, NI1/2) for the (113) and (211) reflections in $R{\overline{3}} c\hbox {\,NaNO}_{3},$ and indicates a second-order transition. Using the same model, a reasonable fit was obtained for the order parameter, S, and also supports a second-order transition.  相似文献

Phase transitions and associated domains of meteoritic troilite (FeS) have been studied by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Three polymorphs have been found, two of which can be described by superstructures of the NiAs-type structure (A, C subcell). The P \(\overline 6\) 2c (√3A, 2C) polymorph, stable at room temperature, displays antiphase domains with the displacement vector 1/3< \(\overline {\text{1}}\) 10>. In situ heating experiments showed that the P \(\overline 6\) 2c polymorph changes at temperatures of 115°–150° C into an orthorhombic pseudohexagonal transitional phase with the probable space group Pmcn (A,√3A, C). It contains antiphase domains with the displacement vector 1/2 [110] and twins with a threefold twin-axis parallel c. When heated above 210° C the transitional phase transforms into the high-temperature modification with NiAs structure (P6 3/mmc). All observed phase transitions are reversible. The occurrence of antiphase and twin domains, respectively, agrees with the symmetry reductions involved in the subsolidus phase transitions. This is demonstrated by group-subgroup relationships among the space groups P6 3/mmc, Pmcn, and P \(\overline 6\) 2c.  相似文献
