We examine 14 plates of the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272) taken with the 40 cm refractor at the Sheshan station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory. The plates span over a period of about 77 years. The positions and absolute proper motions of eight stars in the Hipparcos Catalogue and of 49 stars in the Tycho-2 Catalogue are used as the reference frame. The astrometric reduction is made with the central overlapping principle. The absolute proper motions of 534 stars in a region of about 100' × 100' around the cluster are measured. With the new proper motion data the membership probabilities of the stars are determined. The average absolute proper motion obtained for the cluster is -0.06@0.30 mas yr-1 in R.A. and -2.6@0.30 mas yr-1 in Decl. By combining this result with the known distance and radial velocity of the cluster, we also obtained the Galactic orbit of M3 for a chosen three-component Galactic potential.  相似文献

Observations of the brightness and polarization of CEP over 1983-2002 are presented. An almost sinusoidal curve with a slightly varying amplitude and a period of about 850 days was fit to the light curve. The minima in the actual light curve often appear to be flooded with additional radiation compared to the smoothed curve. As an explanation of this phenomenon, we propose a working hypothesis whereby some radiation that is reflected back into the atmosphere near the equator through veiling by titanium oxide then partially diffuses into the near-polar regions where it escapes.  相似文献

From the characteristic actions (s), we can derive various relations between the basic characteristic quantities of objects and the fundamental constants in known physical laws. The main physical processes which lead to the formation of objects should be included in some such reletions through the fundamental constants. The problem of the origin of galaxies has been considered on the basis of the theory of actions (s). It has been shown that in addition to gravitational effect, the dissipation process of the adiabatic density perturbations arising from the Thomson scattering in the early universe is a crucial process in forming galaxies; and if the Hubble constant has a valueH 0 50 km s–1 Mpc–1, the protogalaxies might be formed just before recombination.  相似文献

The results of observations of polarization for the Be star And that are given are in fully satisfactory agreement with the results obtained by Arsenijevic, Vince, and Kubicela in 1974-1977. All these observations together support Harmanec's hypothesis that strengthening of the circumstellar envelope of And occurs during periastron passage of its companion, moving in an elongated orbit with a period of 8.5 years. The results of polarimetric observations of LZ Cep indicate that its slight, variable intrinsic polarization may originate, as in most semidetached systems, in the scattering of radiation of these stars from particles of matter escaping from the component that is filling its Roche lobe.  相似文献

By means of spectral analysis, oscillations have been detected in many-year time series of deviations in the duration of days from the standard that cannot be explained within the framework of existing gravitational theory. The solution of the problem of the origin and structure of these oscillations is associated with the essence of the phenomena taking place inside the Earth and the mechanisms of energy transfer by external fields and the Sun. The effect of the Sun on the Earth’s rotation also leads to the formation of a unified cyclic background, resulting in correlated oscillations in all shells of the Earth, as well as in its atmosphere and its nucleus. Ground magnetic fields of the Earth and the Sun play the leading role in the abovementioned unified cyclic process. The results of spectral autoregressive and wavelet analyses of experimental data concerning deviations in the duration of days from the standard in the years 1832–2006, ground geomagnetic field intensities in 1832–2006, and the mean magnetic field of the Sun during the period from 1975 to 2005 have been discussed in this paper to reveal and compare correlating oscillations. To analyze a short-period (31-yr-long) series of daily data on the mean magnetic field of the Sun, the results of wavelet transformations (the Morlet wavelet) of the detected amplitude of a burst envelope with a carrier frequency of 13 cycles/yr have been obtained.  相似文献

The non-linear saturation of whistler mode instability in the solar wind is considered here. The resulting heating and acceleration are calculated. It is shown that this instability heats predominantly the -particles and the ratio of heating rates of -particles to ions have been calculated. This instability is shown to be effective in accelerating -particles than ions. However, this process cannot account for V /V i 1.  相似文献

High dispersion CCD spectra are used to study the profiles of the Hα and Hβ lines of 48 stars in early spectral classes in the young diffuse binary cluster h/χ Per. In addition, moderate resolution spectra of 15 B and Be stars were taken over the interval 4400–4960 Å. One or, possibly, two new Be stars are discovered. The major parameters of the Hα line are measured for the observed B and Be stars. The spectra over 4400–4960 Å are used to estimate Teff, logg, and υsin i. No traces of emission are detected in the Hα line profiles for 28 of the stars and emission is observed in the Hα line for 20. During our observations an absorption profile of the Hα line was observed for some of the stars, such as Oo146, Oo566, Oo922, and Oo1268, although they have previously been identified as Be stars. A significant long-term variability of the Hα line is discovered for the Be stars Oo1161 and Oo2242. The north – south asymmetries (NSA) of three solar activity indices are derived and mutually compared over a period of more than five solar cycles (1945 – 2001). A catalogue of the hemispheric sunspot numbers, the data set of the coronal green line brightness developed by us, and the magnetic flux derived from the NSO/KP data (1975 – 2001) are treated separately within the discrete low- and mid-latitude zones (5° – 30°, 35° – 60°). The calculated autocorrelations, cross-correlations, and regressions between the long-term NSA data sets reveal regularities in the solar activity phenomenon. Namely, the appearance of a distinct quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) is evident in all selected activity indices. Nevertheless, a smooth behavior of QBO is derived only when sufficient temporal averaging is performed over solar cycles. The variation in the significance and periodicity of QBO allows us to conclude that the QBO is not persistent over the whole solar cycle. A similarity in the photospheric and coronal manifestations of the NSA implies that their mutual relation will also show the QBO. A roughly two-year periodicity is actually obtained, but again only after significant averaging over solar cycles. The derived cross-correlations are in fact variable in degree of correlation as well as in changing periodicity. A clear and significant temporal shift of 1 – 2 months in the coronal manifestation of the magnetic flux asymmetry relative to the photospheric manifestation is revealed as a main property of their mutual correlation. This shift can be explained by the delayed large-scale coronal manifestation in responding to the emergence of the magnetic flux in the photosphere. The reliability of the derived results was confirmed by numerical tests performed by selecting different numerical values of the used parameters.  相似文献

Distributions of Neutron Exposures in AGB Stars and the Galaxy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Based on the s-process nucleosynthesis model with the 13C(α,n)16O reaction oc- curring under radiative conditions in the interpulse phases, we investigate the characteristics of the distribution of neutron exposure in low-mass Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. We introduce a new concept, the distribution of neutron exposures of the Galaxy (NEG), to study the chemical evolution characteristics of the Galaxy for s-process elements. Using a chemical evolution model of the Galaxy, we develop a model for the NEG and obtain the evolution results of the NEG in different epochs. The present results appear to reasonably re- produce the distribution of neutron exposures of the solar system (hereafter NES). The main component and the strong component in the NES are built up in different epochs. The strong component of the s-process is mainly synthesised in the low-mass and metal-poor AGB stars, and the main component is produced by the s-process in the low-mass AGB stars with higher metallicities.  相似文献

We have analyzed the combined Greenwich and Solar Optical Observing Network (SOON) sunspot group data during the period of 1874??C?2011 and determined variations in the annual numbers (counts) of the small (maximum area A M<100 millionth of solar hemisphere, msh), large (100??A M<300?msh), and big (A M??300?msh) spot groups. We found that the amplitude of an even-numbered cycle of the number of large groups is smaller than that of its immediately following odd-numbered cycle. This is consistent with the well known Gnevyshev and Ohl rule (G?CO rule) of solar cycles, generally described by using the Zurich sunspot number (R Z). During cycles 12??C?21 the G?CO rule holds good for the variation in the number of small groups also, but it is violated by cycle pair (22, 23) as in the case of R Z. This behavior of the variations in the small groups is largely responsible for the anomalous behavior of R Z in cycle pair (22, 23). It is also found that the amplitude of an odd-numbered cycle of the number of small groups is larger than that of its immediately following even-numbered cycle. This might be called the ??reverse G?CO rule??. In the case of the number of the big groups, both cycle pairs (12, 13) and (22, 23) violated the G?CO rule. In many cycles the positions of the peaks of the small, large, and big groups are different, and considerably differ with respect to the corresponding positions of the R Z peaks. In the case of cycle?23, the corresponding cycles of the small and large groups are largely symmetric/less asymmetric (the Waldmeier effect is weak/absent) with their maxima taking place two years later than that of R Z. The corresponding cycle of the big groups is more asymmetric (strong Waldmeier effect) with its maximum epoch taking place at the same time as that of R Z.  相似文献

We have calculated the orbital parameters for 90 stars in Chen et al. and updated the kinematic data for stars in Edvardsson et al. by using the accurate Hipparcos parallaxes and proper motions, and recalculated the \\\\\\\\\\\\-element abundances in Edvardsson et al. in a way consistent with Chen et al. The two sets of data are combined in a study of stellar populations and characteristics of F & G stars in the solar neighborhood. We confirm the result of Chen et al. that a distinguishable group of stars may belong to the thick disk rather than the thin disk. The ages for the stars are determined using the theoretical isochrones of VandenBerg et al. The age-metallicity relation is investigated for different subgroups according to distance from the sun and galactic orbital parameters. It is found that a mixing of stars with different orbital parameters significantly affect the age-metallicity relation for the disk. Bursts of energetic electrons (from >40keV up to 2MeV) as distinct from the magnetopause electron layer observed by Domingo et al. (1977) have been observed in the magnetosheath and in the solar wind by HEOS-2 at high-latitudes. Although these electrons are occasionally found close to the bow shock and simultaneously with low frequency (magnetosonic) upstream waves our observations strongly indicate that these electrons are of exterior cusp origin. Indeed, the flux intensity is highest in the exterior cusp region and decreases as the spacecraft moves away from it both tailward or upward. The energy spectrum becomes harder with increasing radial distance from the exterior cusp. The measured anisotropy indicates that the particles are propagating away from the exterior cusp. The magnetic field points to the exterior cusp region when these electrons are observed, being, for solar wind observations, centred at longitude 0° or 180° rather than along the spiral and in the magnetosheath, being usually different from the 90° or 270° orientation typical of that region. We exclude, therefore, that acceleration in the bow shock is the source of these particles because B is not tangent to the shock when bursts are observed. We have also found a one to one correlation between geomagnetic storms' recovery phases and intense, continuous observations of >40 keV electrons in the magnetosheath, while, on the other hand, during geomagnetically quiet (Dst) periods bursts are observed only if AE is much larger than average.  相似文献

The motion of dust structures in the circumnuclear region of comet Hale–Bopp is studied. About 270 envelope images were obtained with the AZT-8 reflector (D = 0.7 m, F = 28 m) and the Filin-3 image intensifier. We carried out our observations at the observational station of the Astronomical Observatory of Shevchenko Kiev State University in the village of Lesniki (near Kiev). The recording from the image-intensifier screen was made on Foto-100 film during 23 nights from March 24 to May 10, 1997. The circumnuclear region was imaged both in white light (without filters) and with IHW CO+ (ef = 426 nm), C3 (ef = 496 nm), C2 (ef = 514 nm), and RC (red continuum, ef = 684 nm) narrow-band interference filters. Based on our measurements of the radial expansion of dust structures, we determined the velocities, 0.61–1.99 km s–1; accelerations, from –18.3 × 10–3 to 4.0 × 10–3 m s–2; and rotation period of the cometary nucleus, 111.41h ± 0.05h.  相似文献

High resolution profiles of the Mg xii 8.42 Å line in the solar X-ray spectrum were recorded from the Intercosmos 7 satellite. The Mg xii line intensity provides a sensitive indicator of the hot plasma content (T ? 3 × 106 K) in coronal condensations and X-ray flare volumes. The ratio of the line intensity to the intensity of the adjacent continuum has been used to compute approximate thermal models of the emitting regions. For all the investigated coronal condensations the temperature distribution of plasma has been found to be a function monotonically decreasing with temperature. But for some X-ray bursts there occurred a distinct excess of the hot plasma of temperature between 6–10 × 106K. FWHM values of the Mg xii line profiles have been used to estimate ion temperature in the emitting regions.  相似文献

An explanation is offered for the impulsive increase in the concentration of cosmogenic radiocarbon in annual tree rings (Δ14C ~ 12‰) from AD ?775. A possible cause of such an increase could be the high-energy emission from a Galactic gamma-ray burst. It is shown that such an event should not lead to an increase in the total production of 10Be in the atmosphere, as distinct from the effect of cosmic-ray fluxes on the atmosphere. At the same time, the production of an appreciable amount of 36Cl, which can be detected in Greenland and Antarctica ice samples of the corresponding age, should be expected. This allows the effects caused by a gamma-ray burst and anomalously powerful proton events to be distinguished.  相似文献

We present low resolution UV spectra of two polar systems, AM Her and QQ Vul from the observations taken by the IUE (International Ultraviolet Explorer) of the period between 1978–1996 and 1983–1996 for both systems respectively, to accomplish a large scale study of what happens to the ultraviolet flux of C IV 1550 Å spectral line during different orbital phases. Two spectra for both systems showing the variations in line fluxes and line widths at different orbital phases in high and intermediate states are presented. We concentrated on calculating the line fluxes and line widths of C IV 1550 Å emission line originating in the accretion stream. Our results show that there is spectral variability for the aformentioned physical parameters at different times, similar to that known for the light curve (Heise and Verbunt, Astron. Astrophys. 189:112, 1988; Gansicke et al., Astron. Astrophys. 303:127, 1995; Kafka and Honeycutt, Astron. J. 125:2188K, 2003). We attribute it to the variations of both density and temperature as a result of changing the mass transfer rate (Hutchings et al., Astron. J. 123:2841H, 2002; King and Lasota, Astron. Astrophys. 140L:16K, 1984) which is responsible for this spectral variability. Also we found that the line fluxes of AM Her are greater than the line fluxes of QQ Vul, while the line widths of both systems are approximately the same.  相似文献

Based on five high-resolution spectra in the range 5625–7525 ?A taken in 1995 and covering the ascending branch of the light curve from minimum to maximum, we have performed spectroscopic studies of the classical Cepheid ζ Gem. The atmospheric parameters and chemical composition of the Cepheid have been refined. The abundances of the key elements of the evolution of yellow supergiants are typical for an object that has passed the first dredge-up: a C underabundance, N, Na, and Al overabundances, and nearly solar O and Mg abundances. We have estimated [Fe/H] = +0.01 dex; the abundances of the remaining elements are also nearly solar. The metal absorption lines in all spectra show a clear asymmetry and the formation of secondary blue (B1 and B2) and red (R1 and R2) components, just as for the Cepheid X Sgr. The Hα absorption line is also split into blue (B) and red (R) components with different depths changing with pulsation phase. To analyze the velocity field in the atmosphere of ζ Gem, we have estimated the radial velocities from specially selected (with clear signatures of the B1, B2, R1, and R2 components) absorption lines (neutral atoms and ions) of metals (38 lines) and the B and R components of the Hα line. Analysis of these estimates has shown that their scatter is from ?22 to 36 km s?1 for all pulsation phases but does not exceed 35–40 km s?1 for each individual phase, while it does not exceed 22 km s?1 for the Hα line components. The radial velocity estimates for the metal lines and their B1 and B2 components have been found to depend on the depths, suggesting the presence of a velocity gradient in the atmosphere. No significant difference in velocities between the atoms and ions of the metal lines is observed, i.e., there is no significant inhomogeneity in the upper atmospheric layers of the Cepheid. Since the averaged radial velocity estimates for the cores of the metal lines and their B1 and B2 components change with pulsation phase and coincide with those for the B component of the Hα line, they are all formed in the Cepheid’s atmosphere. The formation and passage of a shock wave due to the κ-mechanism at work can be responsible for the stronger scatter of the B1 and B2 components in their velocities at phases after the Cepheid’s minimum radius. The averaged velocities of the R1 components also change with pulsation phase and differ only slightly from the remaining ones. On the other hand, the mean velocity estimate for the R component of the Hα line at all phases is +32.72 ± 2.50 km s?1 and differs significantly from the bulk of the velocities, suggesting the formation of this component in the envelope around the Cepheid. The unusual behavior of the mean velocities for the R2 components of the metal absorption lines can also point to their formation in the envelope and can be yet another indicator of its presence around ζ Gem.  相似文献

The observational results of the Nobeyama 45-m SiO maser survey and the Arecibo 305-m OH maser survey are assembled for an analysis of the distribution and kinematics of late-type stars in the Galactic plane.It is found that neither SiO maser stars nor OH maser stars show any concentration to the spiral arms,which imply that they do not belong to the arm population and quite possibly they are low-mass stars in late stage of evolution.A rotational curve is also derived for these objects and a few features which may be real are discussed and compared with those derived from planetary nebulae and AGB stars.  相似文献

Quasi-simultaneous VLBI observations at 15-86 GHz have shown that in the classical superluminal radio source 3C 273, the spectral index α(Sv∝v^α) has a systematic variation along the jet. For epoch 1995.15, a spectral reversal was observed at core distance -1.5mas, where the superluminal knot C12 Located. Similarly, for epoch 1997.18, two spectral reversals wrer observed at core distances of -1.8 mas and -4.2 mas ,where superluminal knots C11 and C14 were, respectively. These spectral reversals are associated with local maxima of the jet width. We suggest that this phenomenon may be related to a stratification of the jet structure, i.e., its physical parameters (flow velocity, Doppler factor, electron density and energy, magnetic field strength,etc.) are substantially dependent on the distance from the jet axis. These properties may be naturally formed through gasdynamic processes when the jet expands into a lower pressure ambient medium.  相似文献

The currently available infrared data on scattered light from the dust comae of ernis and Bowell set stringent upper limits to the contribution of icy grains. For Comet ernis the data is consistent with only a 10% mass fraction of water-ice included within silicate-organic-carbon grains of scale radius 15 microns, while for Comet Bowell there is no evidence for any ice component. A coma of small (10–100m) organic grains containing a fraction of OH-bearing molecules that evaporate over weeks at 5 AU and leave an absorptive carbonaceous grain residue is the simplest model for Comet Bowell.  相似文献
