The palaeo-intensities (F a) of the geomagnetic field in Egypt at some ages are determined by archaeomagnetic measurements and found to be:F a=36.2 T at 3100 B.C., Fa=46.8 T at 3000 B.C.,F a=36.5 T at 2780 B.C., 49.0 T at 2500 B.C., 36.4 T at 2200 B.C., 57.5 T at 1990 B.C., 62.1 T atca 1400 B.C., 61.5 T at 1400 B.C., 69.9 T at 600 B.C., 59.3 T at 550 B.C., 79.9 T at 460 B.C., 73.7 T at 450 B.C., 69.7 T at 320 B.C., 56.2 T at A.D. 50, 64.9 T, at A.D. 400, 54.4 T at A.D. 300, 57.5 T at A.D. 700 and 43.0 T at A.D. 1975.The palaeo-inclinations (I a) at some ages are found to be:I a=24.2° at 420 B.C., 44° at A.D. 50, 60.7° at A.D. 703 and 42° at A.D. 1795.The measured values ofF a are affected by the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility of the samples by 13% to 20% of the expected correct value. The suitable correction of this effect is by multiplyingF by 1/((1+0.2(/90)) andF by 1/((1–0.13 (/90)), whereF andF are the resultant values ofF a if the laboratory field is perpendicular or parallel to the wall of the sample during the Thelliers' experiments, respectively, and is the angle between the direction of natural remnant magnetization of the sample and the direction of the laboratory field.The results of this paper, together with the previous results for Egypt and the neighbourhoods, lead to the production of the secular variation curve of the geomagnetic field in Egypt for the last 5000 years. The intensity of the field shows a periodicity of about 400 years with multiples.  相似文献

Summary Free vibration of a thick hollow cylinder of non-homogeneous elastic material having rigidity and density varying according to the laws: (i) =0(0+0 z) and Q=Q0(Q0+0 z) for finite and infinite length of the cylinder and (ii) 1/r = and Q = 1/r for finite length only are considered in this paper. Summary We search for the effects of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) sector boundary crossing (SBC) in upper stratospheric ozone. The SBUV data (Nimbus-7) at the 10, 3 and 1 hPa levels are analysed for latitudes 45° N and 55° N for winters of the period December 1979 to December 1982. An effect of the IMF SBC wos only found at the 10 hPa level. These first results concerning the IMF SBC effect in upper stratospheric ozone are rather preliminary.

Summary Dispersion in Rayleigh waves is discussed for semi-infinite media with = 1(1 ± cos s z) and = 1(1 ± cosh s z), being the rigidity of the medium. A few workers tried with the above Fourier type of model but failed to find the dispersive nature. Because they neglected s due to the complexity of the calculation they arrived at a non dispersive frequency equation. This difficulty is removed in this paper and a dispersive frequency equation is obtained which shows both direct and inverse dispersion. The second model leads to non-convergent solution forz but shows many interesting results which are also discussed.  相似文献

Summary In the experiment described, we test the possibility of utilizing forecasts of the pressure field, contained in GRID reports, to solve the problem of horizontal boundary conditions of a local model of short-range forecast of meteorological elements. We prove that the assumption of a linear tendency of the prognostic variables in the boundary region yields good results, using the Perkey-Kreitzberg method[1], even if applied to period T=24 hrs. In the Perkey-Kreitzberg method the effect of the horizontal diffusion in the boundary region is suppressed[2]. However, considering the diffusive term apart from the procedure of the method mentioned proves detrimental to the forecast.

Summary The principle of the sampling method of submicron aerosols with the Aerosol Spectrometer is briefly described and the analytic procedures for deriving the frequency-size distributionC d (d) from photo-micrographic particle counts and microphotometric light scattering measurementsS d (d) of identical areas of the particle deposit.After initial analysis the deposits were exposed to elevated temperature (80° C) for several hours and re-analyzed. Four representative aerosol types, originating from the high sea, the shore, vegetation, and metropolitan smog are analyzed in this manner for the range (0.2 d1.3 ). All show a very marked decrease, even disappearance of the smaller particles (d<0.5 ) and shrinkage of the larger particles (d<1 ). By far the largest effect is observed for the smog aerosols.This volatility appears to be caused by either evaporation of the particle substace or by the gradual oxidation of its organic components into more volatile products (CO2, H2O).  相似文献

Summary The magnetovariational data of 143 stations distributed over the eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif, over the Brunovistulicum and the West Carpathian sector were analysed to obtain transfer functions of the geomagnetic field. Methods of multivariate coherence analysis (spectral domain approach) and of impulse response (time domain approach) were employed. Complex induction vectors were estimated and contour maps of transfer functions were computer generated. Analysing their spatial distribution, we mapped the zones of anomalous induction and interpreted them in terms of electrical conductivity structure with its tectonic implications.

Summary The magnetic moments of Uranus and Neptune have been predicted using different scaling laws of planetary magnetism. The predictions for Uranus cover a broad band of values from very weak magnetic fields (tidal relations) to moderate fields (thermal convection hypothesis). Therefore, the direct measurements of this field by Voyager 2 (January 1986) will be very important for testing the individual hapotheses.

Summary Upgoing and downgoing deuteron whistlers were found on VLF records made by Interkosmos 5, 14 and 19 satellites even at heights below 1000 km. To account for them, a slight admixture ofD + ions has been introduced into the ionospheric plasma model with the usual content of only three ion speciesH +,He + andO +. Relations derived for the calculation of characteristic frequencies in a five-component plasma (e,H +,D +,He +,O +) are given as well as the values of characteristic frequencies calculated on this basis. The observed features of upgoing and downgoing deuteron whistlers could be explained by the calculation results, and it is also possible to formulate some conclusions for the purposes of plasma diagnostics.

Summary According to Newton's law of viscosity y = Dvy/dy. But experiments have shown that y is indeed proportional to –dv x/dy for all gases and for homogeneous nonpolymeric liquids. There are however, a few industrially important materials, e.g. plastics, asphalts, crystalline materials that are not described by the equation given by Newton's law of viscosity and they are referred to as non-Newtonian fluids. The steady state rheological behaviour of most fluids can be expressed by the generalised form, y = –(dvy/dy) where may be expressed as a function of eitherdv x/dy or y (where is independent of the rate of shear, the behaviour is Newtonian with =). Numerous empirical equations or models have been proposed to express the steady-state relation between y anddv x/dy. The flow of Newtonian fluids through circular tubes have been discussed before by many. Here we shall discuss the case of two such models of non-Newtonian fluids through circular tubes. The flow of fluids in circular tubes is encountered frequently in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Engineering.  相似文献

The frictional properties of a crushed granite gouge and of gouges rich in montmorillonite, illite, and serpentine minerals have been investigated at temperatures as high as 600°C, confining pressures as high as 2.5 kbar, a pore pressure of 30 bar, and sliding velocities of 4.8 and 4.8×10–2 m/sec. The gouges showed nearly identical strength behaviors at the two sliding velocities; all four gouges, however, showed a greater tendency to stick-slip movement and somewhat higher stress drops in the experiments at 4.8×10–2 m/sec. Varying the sliding velocity also had an effect on the mineral assemblages and deformation textures developed in the heated gouges. The principal mineralogical difference was that at 400°C and 1 kbar confining pressure a serpentine breakdown reaction occurred in the experiments at 4.8×10–2 m/sec but not in those at 4.8 m/sec. The textures developed in the gouge layers were in part functions of the gouge type and the temperature, but changes in the sliding velocity affected, among other features, the degree of mineral deformation and the orientation of some fractures.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die atmosphärische Aerosolstreuung wird im Bereich 0.52.1 m und 4°40° experimentell untersucht. Sie scheint im Infraroten weitgehend durch die Verhältnisse im Sichtbaren charakterisierbar zu sein, wenn auch die Streudispersion ein unerwartet gegensätzliches Verhalten zeigt. BeiA-ähnlichen, visuellen Streutypen (oder Typen nahe 1) verschwindet diese ab etwa 1.1 m fast vollständig. DieB-ähnlichen, visuellen Streutypen (oder Typen nahe 2) tritt in einem Zwischenbereich (etwa 0.8 bis 1.3 m) starke Streudispersion auf. Für den Gesamtstreutyp wird eine Klassifizierung in Anlehnung an die im Sichtbaren gebräuchliche [11–14]2) vorgeschlagen.
Summary The scattering by the atmospheric aerosol of radiation in the region 0.52.1 m and 4°40° is investigated experimentally. The features in the infrared can be characterized by that in the visible, but the scattering dispersion is found to be different to that expected. At scattering types nearA (or 1) in the visible there is almost no scattering dispersion for 1.1 m. At types nearB (or 2) in the visible a high scattering dispersion in the region between 0.8 m and 1.3 m was observed. For the whole region of wavelength including the infrared a classification similar to that used in the visible [11–14]2) is suggested.

Summary Models of the Earth's density, close to thePREM model, have been derived, they reproduce the external normal gravitational field of the Earth and its dynamic flattening, and are referred to as normal density models. The Earth's surface is approximated by an ellipsoid of the order of the flattening, or of its square. Of the group of normal models sgtisfying the solution of the inverse problem, the normal density modelHME2 is recommended. The spherically symmetric density modelPREM, which was corrected in the course of solving the inverse problem, thus creating the modifiedPREM-E2 model, was used as the a priori information.

Summary The paper is concerned with the properties of a density distribution within the Earth. A system of density parameter constraints involving Stokes' coefficients of the gravity field and the parameters describing the Earth's figure is derived. A density model, whose parameters fit these constraints, accounts for the fine structure of the gravity field and Earth's figure. Additional condition imposed on the average spherical density model are derived; they guarantee that the average spherical model is compatible with the 3-D density model.
