V -band polarimetric observations of HD 108 were obtained during 1994 August and September. This is the first time that the temporal polarimetric variability of this star has been investigated. Its percentage polarization and position angle vary randomly, and no evidence of its proposed binary nature is detected. The random variability is consistent with that seen for previously observed Wolf–Rayet stars and OB supergiants. Nightly variations do show some systematic behaviour consistent with the blob ejection model of Underhill & Fehey (1984). From the data it is estimated that the mass-loss rate resulting from blobs is ∼1-10−7 M⊙ yr−1. The total mass-loss rate of the star is estimated to be ∼1-10−5 M⊙ yr−1. The stellar rotation rate is estimated to be V rot∼400 km s−1 with an inclination of i <20c. The data are also interpreted in terms of perturbations occurring in an equatorial disc plus bipolar jets viewed equatorially (Underhill 1994). It is found that the perturbation mass-loss rate is about ∼3-10−7 M⊙ yr−1, giving a total mass-loss rate for the star of 13-10−5 M⊙ yr−1. Both models are consistent with HD 108 being an OB supergiant or of the class Ofpe/WR9.  相似文献

We have derived abundances for 54 elements in the extreme roAp star HD 101065. ESO spectra with a resolution of about 80 000, and S/N of 200 or more were employed. The adopted model has T eff=6600 K, and log( g )=4.2. Because of the increased line opacity and consequent low gas pressure, convection plays no significant role in the temperature structure. Lighter elemental abundances through the iron group scatter about standard abundance distribution (SAD) (solar) values. Iron and nickel are about one order of magnitude deficient while cobalt is enhanced by 1.5 dex. Heavier elements, including the lanthanides, generally follow the solar pattern but enhanced by 3 to 4 dex. Odd-Z elements are generally less abundant than their even-Z neighbours. With a few exceptions (e.g. Yb), the abundance pattern among the heavy elements is remarkably coherent, and resembles a displaced solar distribution.  相似文献

Very-high-resolution ( R ∼160 000) spectroscopic observations are presented for the early B-type star, HD 83206. Because it has very sharp metal lines, this star affords an opportunity to test theories of model atmospheres and line formation. Non-LTE model atmosphere calculations have been used to estimate the atmospheric parameters and absolute metal abundances (C, N, O, Mg and Si); an LTE analysis was also undertaken to investigate the validity of this simpler approach and to estimate an iron abundance. For the non-LTE calculations, there is excellent agreement with observations of the Balmer lines H α and H δ and the lines of Si  ii and Si  iii for atmospheric parameters of T eff≃21 700±600 K and log  g ≃4.00±0.15 dex. The agreement is less convincing for the LTE calculations, and a higher gravity is deduced. Careful comparison of the metal line profiles with non-LTE calculations implies that the projected rotational and microturbulent velocities have maximum values of ≃5 and ≃2 km s−1, respectively. The latter value is smaller than has often been adopted in LTE model atmosphere analyses of main-sequence stars. Non-LTE absolute metal abundances are estimated, and a comparison with those for normal B-type stars (deduced using similar non-LTE techniques) shows no significant differences. A comparison of the abundances deduced using non-LTE and LTE calculations implies systematic differences of 0.1–0.2 dex, showing the importance of using a non-LTE approach when accurate absolute abundances are required. Its location in the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram and normal metal abundance lead us to conclude that HD 83206 is probably a main-sequence B-type star. As such, it is among the sharpest-lined young B-type star discovered to date.  相似文献

The mysterious 21 μm emission feature seen in sixteen C-rich proto-planetary nebulae (PPNe) remains unidentified since its discovery in 1989. Over a dozen of materials are suggested as the carrier candidates. In this work, we quantitatively investigate eight inorganic and one organic carrier candidates in terms of elemental abundance constraints, while previous studies mostly focus on their spectral profiles (which could be largely affected by grain size, shape and clustering effects). It is found that: (1) five candidates (TiC nanoclusters, fullerenes coordinated with Ti atoms, SiS2, doped-SiC and SiO2-coated SiC dust) violate the abundance constraints (i.e. they require too much Ti, S or Si to account for the emission power of the 21 μm band, (2) three candidates (carbon and silicon mixtures, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4), while satisfying the abundance constraints, exhibit secondary features which are not detected in the 21 μm sources and (3) nano FeO, neither exceeding the abundance budget nor producing undetected secondary features, seems to be a viable candidate, supporting the suggestions of Posch, Mutschke & Andersen.  相似文献

The visual triple system HD 9770 (BB Scl) has been the subject of a four-year programme of UVB ( RI )C photometry and H α échelle spectroscopy. Analysis of the data obtained over that period shows that star B, and probably also star A, of HD 9770 is a binary. The A system comprises a K1V star, which may be in a binary system with another K dwarf. The B system is an eclipsing binary of the BY Dra type in which both stars are chromospherically active. An orbital period of 0.476 525±0.000 013 d has been derived from the light curve in V . Physical parameters derived from analysis of the light curves in UBV ( RI )C are presented.  相似文献

We describe numerical tools for the stability analysis of extrasolar planetary systems. In particular, we consider the relative Poincaré variables and symplectic integration of the equations of motion. We apply the tangent map to derive a numerically efficient algorithm of the fast indicator Mean Exponential Growth factor of Nearby Orbits (MEGNO), a measure of the maximal Lyapunov exponent, that helps to distinguish chaotic and regular configurations. The results concerning the three-planet extrasolar system HD 37124 are presented and discussed. The best-fitting solutions found in earlier works are studied more closely. The system involves Jovian planets with similar masses. The orbits have moderate eccentricities, nevertheless the best-fitting solutions are found in dynamically active region of the phase space. The long-term stability of the system is determined by a net of low-order two-body and three-body mean motion resonances. In particular, the three-body resonances may induce strong chaos that leads to self-destruction of the system after Myr of apparently stable and bounded evolution. In such a case, numerically efficient dynamical maps are useful to resolve the fine structure of the phase space and to identify the sources of unstable behaviour.  相似文献

From a set of stellar spectropolarimetric observations, we report the detection of surface magnetic fields in a sample of four solar-type stars, namely HD 73350, HD 76151, HD 146233 (18 Sco) and HD 190771. Assuming that the observed variability of polarimetric signal is controlled by stellar rotation, we establish the rotation periods of our targets, with values ranging from 8.8 d (for HD 190771) to 22.7 d (for HD 146233). Apart from rotation, fundamental parameters of the selected objects are very close to the Sun's, making this sample a practical basis to investigate the specific impact of rotation on magnetic properties of Sun-like stars.
We reconstruct the large-scale magnetic geometry of the targets as a low-order  (ℓ < 10)  spherical harmonic expansion of the surface magnetic field. From the set of magnetic maps, we draw two main conclusions. (i) The magnetic energy of the large-scale field increases with rotation rate. The increase in chromospheric emission with the mean magnetic field is flatter than observed in the Sun. Since the chromospheric flux is also sensitive to magnetic elements smaller than those contributing to the polarimetric signal, this observation suggests that a larger fraction of the surface magnetic energy is stored in large scales as rotation increases. (ii) Whereas the magnetic field is mostly poloidal for low rotation rates, more rapid rotators host a large-scale toroidal component in their surface field. From our observations, we infer that a rotation period lower than ≈12 d is necessary for the toroidal magnetic energy to dominate over the poloidal component.  相似文献

Elemental abundances of the moderately rotating B9–A3 stars λ UMa, 59 Her, 14 Cyg and 29 Cyg have been derived in a consistent manner with previous studies of this series from spectrograms obtained with Reticon and CCD detectors. The derived elemental abundances show that λ UMa is a mild Am star, while 59 Her is slightly metal-rich. Although 14 Cyg has values closer to solar than these stars, its subsolar Ca and Sc abundances indicate that it might be the hottest known hot-Am star. 29 Cyg is a metal-poor λ Boo star.  相似文献

We present time-resolved, J ‐band (1.025–1.340 μm) infrared spectra of the short-period dwarf novae (DNe) WZ Sge and VY Aqr, and single spectra of the short-period DN EF Peg and the nova-like variable PX And. There is some evidence in the spectra of VY Aqr and EF Peg that we have detected the secondary star, both in the continuum slope and also through the possible presence of spectral features. The spectra of WZ Sge and PX And, on the other hand, show no evidence for the secondary star, with upper limits for its contribution to the J ‐band light of 10 and 20 per cent respectively. The spectral type of the secondary in WZ Sge is constrained to be later than M7.5V. Using skew mapping, we have been able to derive a value for the radial velocity semi-amplitude of the secondary star in VY Aqr of K R =320±70 km s−1, which in conjunction with K W from Thorstensen & Taylor gives a mass ratio of q =0.15±0.04.  相似文献

Simultaneous X-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) ( ROSAT XRT and WFC All-Sky Survey) observations of the highly active dMe flare stars YY Gem and AU Mic show that the two stars displayed an unusual type of flaring behaviour. We detect several X-ray and EUV flares superimposed on an enhanced and smoothly varying quiescent background. The two large impulsive-type X-ray flares on YY Gem reach peak X-ray luminosities of     and we estimate that they had similar integrated luminosities (∼6–8×1033 erg). AU Mic also produced several X-ray and EUV flares, with one very impulsive flare producing a 10-fold increase in XRT count rate. This flare was even larger than the YY Gem flares (peak L X of     and integrated L X of    
The     ratio for both stars is at the 'saturation' limit found in rapidly rotating dwarfs and the most active RS CVn stars. We suggest that the gradually varying components are the result of a period of continuous, unresolved flaring activity. Alternatively, they may be the result of the emergence and subsequent decay of a new magnetic active region on the stellar surface of these stars.  相似文献
