On the basis of an analytical solution of the diffusion-type kinetic equation for electrons, electron distributions and radiation spectra have been found which result from a hard injection of particles in sources of the core halo type, characterized by spatially nonuniform magnetic fields and diffusion parameters. Such radio sources are shown to possess nonlinear radiation spectra containing universal (=0.5) and diffusion-controlled power-law sections shaped by synchrotron losses, spatial diffusion and radiation conditions of the electrons. The diffusion-controlled sections can be described by spectral indices 0.5<1, if the magnetic field decreases towards the source edge, and by <0.5 where the magnetic field increases.  相似文献

We consider the problem of the influence of electron scattering on the continuous spectrum of an envelope. For the radiation flux out of the envelope we assume an expression (1) obtained by us previously [3]. Computations using formula (1) are carried out for two models of the envelope: gray andpurely hydrogen. As a result we find the values of the following quantities, which characterize the continuous spectrum: the color indices U-B, B-V, V-R, and V-I; the Balmer jump D, and the bolometric correction BC. The values of these quantities are given in tables as functions of the surface temperature To of the envelope and the parameter /, where is the coefficient of electron scattering and is the mean absorption coefficient. We draw conclusions on the role of electron scattering for each model of the envelope.Translated fromAstrofizika, Vol. 37, No. 3, 1994.  相似文献

The radiation of ultrarelativistic particles is examined in a quasi-uniform magnetic field superimposed by a wide spectrum of magnetic, electric, and electron density inhomogeneities created in a turbulent plasma. The radiation spectrum from a particle of a given energy is shown to acquire a high-frequency power-law tail with the same spectral index as the index of small-scale turbulence. For a power-law spectrum of ultrarelativistic electrons, dN()/d ~ , with a cut-off at some energy max, the radiation spectrum consists of a few power-law ranges; the radiation intensity may suffer jumps at frequencies which separate these ranges. In the high-frequency range the spectral index is determined by small-scale magnetic and electric fields. At intermediate frequencies the main contribution comes from the synchrotron radiation in a large-scale field; the radiation spectrum has an index =(–1)/2. The same index may be produced by large-scale Langmuir waves. At lower frequencies the radiation spectrum increases owing to the transition radiation caused by electron density fluctuations; in this case the spectral index is equal to +1–.The possibility of diagnostics of high-frequency cosmic plasma turbulence from radiation of high-energy particles is discussed. It is shown that the proposed theory may explain some features in the spectra of several cosmic objects.  相似文献

In the external layers of supermassive stars and thermal sources of X-ray radiation electron scattering contributes more to the opacity than free-free process. Therefore, the thermal radiation spectrum of supermassive stars must greatly differ from Planckian. The approximate formulae obtained for the radiation spectra are applicable to any objects with a predominant role of electron scattering in the opacity and power dependence of plasma temperature and density on geometrical depth of the layers. In thermal radiation sources with power dependence of plasma temperature on depth of the layer the formation of power radiation spectraF(v)v with >0 with >0 is possible. Such spectra can imitate the presence of non-thermal radiation mechanisms. This effect takes place also in the case of small optical depth on the Thomson scattering. Possibly, this effect is of interest for the theories of X-ray sources and X-ray solar flares. This case was considered also in the final version of the paper (Felten and Rees, 1972).  相似文献

The effect of Faraday rotation is shown to lead to the appearance of linear polarization of stellar radiation scattered in an optically-thin circumstellar electron-magnetized shell, even in the case when the shell is spherical. The spectral dependence of the polarization degree is evaluated for scattering in (i) a spherically-symmetric magnetized shell with a power-law radial dependence of the electron density, and (ii) a non-spherical ellipsoidal uniform envelope. The position of maximum in the polarization spectrum permits us to determine the magnetic field magnitude on a star surface. If the rotational and magnetic axes do not coincide, the periodic variability of the polarization will be observed with the period of stellar rotation. Some Be-stars, such as Cas, 48 Lib, EW Lac, Aqr, HD 45677, X Per, are proposed as candidates to be investigated for magnetic fields, as well as some stars of the T Tau-type. This method may be also applied to supernovae shells.  相似文献

We use non-simultaneous Ginga ASCA ROSAT observations to investigate the complex X-ray spectrum of the Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 3. We find that the composite spectrum can be well described in terms of a heavily cut-off hard X-ray continuum, iron Kα emission and a soft X-ray excess, with spectral variability confined to changes in the continuum normalization and the flux in the iron line. Previous studies have suggested that the power-law continuum in Mrk 3 is unusually hard. We obtain a canonical value for the energy index of the continuum (i.e., α ≈ 0.7) when a warm absorber (responsible for an absorption edge observed near 8 keV) is included in the spectral model. Alternatively, the inclusion of a reflection component yields a comparable power-law index. The soft-excess flux cannot be modelled solely in terms of pure electron scattering of the underlying power-law continuum. However, a better fit to the spectral data is obtained if we include the effects of both emission and absorption in a partially photoionized scattering medium. In particular, the spectral feature prominent at ∼ 0.9 keV could represent O VIII recombination radiation produced in a hot photoionized medium. We discuss our results in the context of other recent studies of the soft X-ray spectra of Seyfert 2 galaxies.  相似文献

Synchrotron X-rays can be a useful tool to investigate electron acceleration at young supernova remnants(SNRs).At present, since the magnetic field configuration around the shocks of SNRs is uncertain,it is not clear whether electron acceleration is limited by SNR age, synchrotron cooling,or even escape from the acceleration region. We study whether the acceleration mechanism can be constrained by the cutoff shape of the electron spectrum around the maximum energy. We derive analytical formulae of the cutoff shape in each case where the maximum electron energy is determined by SNR age, synchrotron cooling and escape from the shock. They are related to the energy dependence of the electron diffusion coefficient.Next,we discuss whether information on the cutoff shape can be provided by observations in the near future which will simply give the photon indices and the flux ratios in the soft and hard X-ray bands. We find that if the power-law index of the electron spectrum is independently determined by other observations, then we can constrain the cutoff shape by comparing theoretical predictions of the photon indices and/or the flux ratios with observed data which will be measured by NuSTAR and/or ASTRO-H.Such study is helpful in understanding the acceleration mechanism. In particular,it will supply another independent constraint on the magnetic field strength around the shocks of SNRs.  相似文献

We consider the transfer of radiation and calculate the force of its pressure in the electron gyroresonance line in the atmospheres of magnetic degenerate stars. We specify the atmospheric parameters for which an outflow of plasma is possible under radiation pressure in the cyclotron line. We show that the permittivity tensor of a mildly relativistic plasma in a strong magnetic field found by applying relativistic corrections to the cyclotron resonance condition and by taking into account the vacuum polarization and recoil effects during photon scattering should be used to obtain proper results. We have determined the real and imaginary parts of the refractive indices and the polarization coefficients for normal electromagnetic waves when scattering dominates over absorption. Relativistic effects, which change greatly the dispersion and resonant absorption of waves propagating almost perpendicular to the magnetic field, and vacuum polarization have been found to change qualitatively the gyroresonance radiation spectrum and pressure for a wide range of parameters of stellar magnetospheres.  相似文献

The spatial and angular distributions and also the energy spectrum of hard X-rays from solar flares have been studied in terms of the energy and angular distributions of the accelerated electron beam. The incident electron distributions as functions of column density have been computed by combining the analytical treatment of small-angle scattering with the Monte-Carlo calculations for large angle scattering. To start with monoenergetic electrons at 0°, 30°, and 60° incidence angles have been taken. Using the Bethe-Heitler total cross section and the Sauter differential cross section along with the calculated electron distributions, the bremsstrahlung flux and its angular distribution for different photon energies > 10 keV have been studied as function of column density. The shape of the calculated curves agrees with the observations of PVO/ISEE-3 lending support to the beamed thick-target model for X-ray generation with continuous injection.Physics Department, Vishwa Bharti Institution, Rainawari, Srinagar, India.  相似文献

The energy and angular distributions of electrons have been studied by combining small angle scatterings using analytical treatment with large angle collisions using Monte Caroo calculations as a function of column density for initially power-law electron distributions and incidence angles of 0, 30, and 60°. Using these distributions the X-ray and EUV line flux as a function of column density has been computed. The flux increases with increase in column density. At the initial column densities the contribution of non-thermal electrons for the production of line flux is negligible. However, it becomes significant at intermediate column densities at which the electron energy and angular distributions have non-Maxwellian nature. X-ray and EUV flux have also been calculated as a function of electron spectral index at a fixed column density. It falls steeply with increase in spectral index. The calculated flux is compared with the observations.  相似文献

The determination of the average path-length of photons emerging from a finite planeparallel atmosphere with molecular scattering is discussed. We examine the effects of polarisation on the average path-length of the emergent radiation by comparing the results with those obtained for the atmosphere where the scattering obeys the scalar Rayleigh function. Only the axial radiation field is considered for both cases. To solve this problem we have used the integro-differential equations of Chandrasekhar for the diffuse scattering and transmission functions (or matrices). By differentiation of these equations with respect to the albedo of single scattering we obtain new equations the solution of which gives us the derivatives of the intensities of the emergent radiation at the boundaries. As in the case of scalar transfer the principles of invariance by Chandrasekhar may be used to find an adding scheme to obtain both the scattering and transmission matrices and their derivatives with respect to the albedo of single scattering. These derivatives are crucial in determining the average path length. The numerical experiments have shown that the impact of the polarisation on the average pathlength of the emergent radiation is the largest in the atmospheres with optical thickness less than, or equal to, three, reaching 6.9% in the reflected radiation.  相似文献

It is usually assumed that the ions of cosmic rays contribute nothing to the observable electromagnetic radiation. However, this is true only when these ions are moving in a vacuum or a quiet (nonturbulent) plasma. In the case of fast ions in a turbulent plasma, there is an effective nonlinear mechanism of radiation which is discussed in this paper. The fast ion (relativistic or nonrelativistic) moving in the plasma creates a polarization cloud around itself which also moves with the particles. The turbulent plasma waves may scatter on the moving electric field of this polarization cloud. In the process of this scattering an electromagnetic wave with frequency (2.7) is generated. Let 1 and k1 be the frequency and wave vector of turbulent plasma waves,V is the velocity of the ion, and is the angle between the wave vector of electromagnetic radiation and the direction of the ion velocity. The method of calculating the probability of the conversion of plasma waves (k1) into electromagnetic waves (k) by scattering on an ion with velocityV is described in detal in Section 2 (Equation (2.14)).The spectral coefficients of spontaneous radiation in the case of scattering of plasma waves on polarization clouds created by fast nonrelativistic ions are given in (3.6) for an ion energy distribution function (3.4) and in (3.8) for more general evaluations. The Equations (3.9)–(3.13) describe the spectral coefficients of spontaneous emission for different modes of plasma turbulence (Langmuir (3.9), electron cyclotron in a weak (3.10) or strong (3.11) magnetic field and ion acoustic (3.12)–(3.13) waves). The coefficients of reabsorption or induced emission are given by Equations (3.14) and (3.16)–(3.19). There is a maser effect in the case of scattering of plasma waves on a stream of ions. The effective temperature of the spontaneous emission is given by Equation (3.15). The spectral coefficients of radiation due to scattering of plasma waves on relativistic ions are calculated in the same manner (Equations (4.14)–(4.15)). The total energy loss due to this radiation is given in Equations (4.23)–(4.25). The coefficients of induced emission are given in (4.26)–(4.28).The results are discussed in Section 5. It is shown that the loss of energy by nonlinear plasma radiation is much smaller than the ionization loss. However, the coefficients of synchrotron radiation of electrons and nonlinear radiation of ions under cosmic conditions may be comparable in the case of a weak magnetic field and fairly low frequencies (5.5)–(5.6). Usually the spectrum of nonlinear plasma radiation is steeper than in the case of synchroton radiation. Equation (5.10) gives the condition for nonlinear radiation to prevail over thermal radiation.Translated by D. F. Smith.  相似文献

We study the multi-wavelength emission features of PKS 0447-439 in the frame of the one-zone homogeneous lepto-hadronic model. In this model, we assumed that the steady power-laws with exponential cut-offs distributions of protons and electrons are injected into the source. The non-linear time-dependent kinematic equations, describing the evolution of protons, electrons and photons, are defined; these equations self-consistently involve synchrotron radiation of protons, photon-photon interaction, synchrotron radiation of electron/positron pairs, inverse Compton scattering and synchrotron self-absorption. The model is applied to reproduce the multi-wavelength spectrum of PKS 0447-439. Our results indicate that the spectral energy distribution (SED) of PKS 0447-439 can be reproduced well by the model. In particular, the GeV-TeV emission is produced by the synchrotron radiation of relativistic protons. The physically plausible solutions require the magnetic strength \(10~\text{G}\lesssim B \lesssim 100~\text{G}\). We found that the observed spectrum of PKS 0447-439 can be reproduced well by the model whether \(z = 0.16\) or \(z = 0.2\), and the acceptable upper limit of redshift is \(z=0.343\).  相似文献

We present here the first images of impulsive millimeter emission of a flare. The flare on 1994 August 18 was simultaneously observed at millimeter (86 GHz), microwave (1-18 GHz), and soft and hard X-ray wavelengths. Images of millimeter, soft and hard X-ray emission show the same compact ( 8) source. Both the impulsive and the gradual phases are studied in order to determine the emission mechanisms. During the impulsive phase, the radio spectrum was obtained by combining the millimeter with simultaneous microwave emission. Fitting the nonthermal radio spectra as gyrosynchrotron radiation from a homogeneous source model with constant magnetic field yields the physical properties of the flaring source, that is, total number of electrons, power-law index of the electron energy distribution, and the nonthermal source size. These results are compared to those obtained from the hard X-ray spectra. The energy distribution of the energetic electrons inferred from the hard X-ray and radio spectra is found to follow a double power-law with slope 6–8 below 50 keV and 3–4 above those energies. The temporal evolution of the electron energy spectrum and its implication for the acceleration mechanism are discussed. Comparison of millimeter and soft X-ray emissions during the gradual phase implies that the millimeter emission is free-free radiation from the same hot soft X-ray emitting plasma, and further suggests that the flare source contains multiple temperatures.  相似文献

Twelve examples of clouds of narrowband dm-spikes, observed by the Ondejov radiospectrograph in the 1–2 GHz frequency range, are analyzed. After transforming of the frequency scales to heights in the solar atmosphere, the indices of the power-law power spectra are determined. The derived power-law indices are scattered in a broad range of values (–0.80––2.85). In some cases they considerably deviate from the previously found value of –5/3. A change of the power-law index above logk2.5 was also found in some cases. In the two longest events the time evolution of their power spectra as well as their indices were studied. While in most parts of the radio spectra the spectral index remains constant, in one part its absolute value increases with the spike intensity increase. Finally, the results, especially the broad range of power-law indices, are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The statistical equilibrium equations for the continuum and first 10 levels of a hydrogen atom show that the radiation of a bright prominence (the brightness of the H line has attained 56 mÅ of the disc centre spectrum) is completely due to scattering of the Sun radiation. The basic unknowns are separated with certainty: electron concentration (n e = 3.0 × 1010 cm–3), effective thickness (l = 4.2 × 108 cm) and electron temperature (T e = 5000 K).Radiation of a very bright prominence (A (H) = 213 mÅ; T e = 7300 K; n e = 5.0 × 1011 cm–3; l = 1.3 × 107 cm) is on account of electron impacts (40%) and the Sun radiation scattering (60%).The parameters are shown to depend greatly on the prominence optical thickness in the lines of the first subordinate series of a hydrogen atom. In the course of determination all the parameters and 100 interconnected integral equations of the radiation diffusion have been thickness-averaged; the population of levels has been calculated by observations using the self-absorption factors.  相似文献

Observational parameters of the optical and gamma-ray emissions from 58 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with discovered afterglows and known redshifts are analyzed. The distributions of these parameters and pair correlations between them are studied. Approximately half of the objects exhibit a relatively slow decrease in the optical flux at initial afterglow phases (with a power-law index in the decay law α < 1). Correlations have been found between the luminosities, energies, and durations of the optical and gamma-ray emissions, which can be explained by the presence of universal features in the light curves. A correlation of the peak luminosity for afterglows with the redshift and an anticorrelation of their durations with the redshift have been found for the first time. Against the background of a weak z dependence of the total afterglow energy, this effect can be explained by cosmological evolution of the GRB environment, which determines the rate of optical energy release.  相似文献

Spherical accretion onto black holes at high accretion rates leads to temperatures and optical depths for which Comptonization of the emerging radiation plays an important role, altering both the plasma temperature and the emergent spectrum. In this paper the nonlocal effects of Comptonization are accounted for by numerically modeling the scattering process with Monte Carlo techniques. Calculations are performed for black hole masses ranging from 101–109 M and are compared with the local scattering model of Ipser and Price (1983). It is found that the local scattering approximation underestimates the energy in the X-ray portion of the spectrum. Monte Carlo calculations shows that the spectrum flattens and the spectral index decreases to values about 20% below those obtained by using the local scattering approximation.  相似文献
