Summary Topographic effects on tidal strains and tilts are studied using a homogeneous elastic spherical model. Expressions for local perturbing strains and tilts are derive das functions of the physical and geometrical parameters of the model. It is demonstrated that tidal tilts are affected more by the topography than tidal strains.

Summary The magnetovariational data of 143 stations distributed over the eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif, over the Brunovistulicum and the West Carpathian sector were analysed to obtain transfer functions of the geomagnetic field. Methods of multivariate coherence analysis (spectral domain approach) and of impulse response (time domain approach) were employed. Complex induction vectors were estimated and contour maps of transfer functions were computer generated. Analysing their spatial distribution, we mapped the zones of anomalous induction and interpreted them in terms of electrical conductivity structure with its tectonic implications.

Summary We search for the effects of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) sector boundary crossing (SBC) in upper stratospheric ozone. The SBUV data (Nimbus-7) at the 10, 3 and 1 hPa levels are analysed for latitudes 45° N and 55° N for winters of the period December 1979 to December 1982. An effect of the IMF SBC wos only found at the 10 hPa level. These first results concerning the IMF SBC effect in upper stratospheric ozone are rather preliminary.

Summary The present paper is an attempt to demonstrate the fact that misleading information about the thermodynamic structure of shallow cumulus fields is obtained when standard isobaric level (SIL) data input is used. The 1-D cumulus model serves as the main tool of examination and the reference input data are those of significant levels (SL) in soundings. The computed cloud tops (SIL) exceeded (SL) tops in nearly 80% of the cases and the excesses are more than 1 kilometre in 25% of the cases. Some discrepancies were also found in potential stability analysis. The local changes in equivalent potential temperature may be seriously affected and even falsified. The important role of high resolution in studies of mesoscale phenomena was again accentuated.

Summary The magnetic moments of Uranus and Neptune have been predicted using different scaling laws of planetary magnetism. The predictions for Uranus cover a broad band of values from very weak magnetic fields (tidal relations) to moderate fields (thermal convection hypothesis). Therefore, the direct measurements of this field by Voyager 2 (January 1986) will be very important for testing the individual hapotheses.

Summary Models of the Earth's density, close to thePREM model, have been derived, they reproduce the external normal gravitational field of the Earth and its dynamic flattening, and are referred to as normal density models. The Earth's surface is approximated by an ellipsoid of the order of the flattening, or of its square. Of the group of normal models sgtisfying the solution of the inverse problem, the normal density modelHME2 is recommended. The spherically symmetric density modelPREM, which was corrected in the course of solving the inverse problem, thus creating the modifiedPREM-E2 model, was used as the a priori information.

Summary The algorithm of iterative geophysical tomography is presented. The medium is approximated smoothly by means of B-splines. The tww-point problem of ray computation is solved with the aid of paraxial approximation. The parameters of the medium are obtained from the iterative algorithm of minimizing the quadratic form. Two numerical 2-D examples are given.

The Étude et Simulation de la QUalité de lair en Ile de France (ESQUIF) project is the first integrated project dedicated to the study of the processes leading to air pollution events over the Paris area. The project was carried out over two years (summer 1998 to winter 2000) to document all types of meteorological conditions favourable to air quality degradation, and in particular to photo oxydant formation. The goals of ESQUIF are (1) to improve our understanding of the relevant chemical and dynamical processes and, in turn, improve their parametrizations in numerical models, and (2) to improve and validate existing models dedicated to pollution analysis, scenarios and/or forecasting, by establishing a comprehensive and thorough database. We present the rationale of the ESQUIF project and we describe the experimental set-up. We also report on the first experiments which took place during the summer of 1998 involving surface networks, and remote sensing instruments as well as several aircraft. Focusing on three days of August 1998, the relative contributions of long-range transported and locally-produced ozone to the elevated ozone concentrations observed during this period are discussed and chemistry-transport model preliminary results on this period are compared to measurements.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Mit Benutzung der langfristigen Gezeitenbeobachtungsreihen mit Hilfe der Klinometer und des Gravimeters auf den tschechoslowakischen Gezeitenstationen werden die Methoden der Analyse von Chojnicki und Venedikov verglichen. Die in Tab. 1–5 zusammengefassten Ergebnisse zeigen beide benutzten Methoden als gleichwertig. Zum Hauptvorteil der Methode von Chojnicki gehört die Möglichkeit der Berechnung von Gezeitenparametern auch für langperiodische Wellen (Tab. 2, 4 und 5).

Summary A correlation of the earthquake occurrence on the territory of Czechoslovakia and in its close neighbourhood with the data on the neotectonic and geomorphological development of the respective area, the recent movements of the Earth's crust, the courses of photolineations and on the geophysical fields enabled the fundamental structural blocks in the upper part of the Earth's crust to be singled out. The contact zones established between the above blocks exhibit increased long-term movement tendencies particularly in the Neoid period. A seismotectonic model of the upper part of the Earth's crust of Czechoslovakia, compiled with the use of the data mentioned above, is described.

Summary A forecast model to predict the fluctuations of level AT 500 hPa in a selected grid of points is derived. The solution of the compensation equation is sought in the form of a trigonometric polynomial in three idependent variables. It constitutes the basis of a numerical solution of the prediction problem with the use of a high-speed computer. A three-month forecast of the altitude fluctuation of level 500 hPa is evaluated by means of the daily values of the correlation coefficient. The results are satisfactory and the general evaluation shows the model to be prospective.

Summary The area of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin was characterized by generally high heat flow ranging from 60 to 120 mWm–2, mean 82±16 mWm–2, which has been difficult to explain. Therefore all published data on the heat flow in this region (n=37) were summarized and re-evaluated. Special attention was paid to the detailed assessment of the lithological structure and the contribution of the individual rock types to the characteristic in-situ thermal conductivity. Also the thermal conductivity of the coal bearing layers was estimated and its effect on the temperature-depth distribution was investigated. The application of the data obtained for the representative thermal conductivity profiles of the whole drilled section considerably reduced the mean heat flow to 70±8 mWm–2. The latter value is fully compatible with the tectonic structure of the northern part of the Carpathian Frontal Foredeep. Slightly increased geothermal activity compared with the heat flow field of the adjacent part of the Bohemian Massif corresponds to certain deep geological rejuvenation during the creation of the Western Carpathians.

Summary Determining magnetic parameters of rock samples by means of an astatic magnetometer is essentially solving a certain kind of the inverse problem. If the sample is measured at small distances from the astatic system, or if the sample is magnetically strongly inhomogeneous, the problem of higher order magnetic moments becomes more difficult. The accuracy of estimating the parameters depends on the correctness and the comprehensiveness of the model chosen. In the present paper a statistical model is proposed, which solves satisfactorily the problem of measuring the magnetic parameters of a generally magnetized sample provided the remanent moment distinctly dominates over the induced moment.

Summary The case study presented here is related to the thermodynamic analysis of entrainment and mixing in a shallow cumuls layer. The fair weather situation on 9. 9. 1983, Voves, is characterized by a field of scattered cumuli of the same depths and by a towering isolated cumulus. The clouds were sampled. Two types of analysis were used, the Paluch analysis and saturation point analysis, both of them making use of conserved parameters and a mixing line structure. Both methods gave similar results. For the small cumuli, lateral entrainment prevailed up to the highest penetration level while in the isolated cumulus, cloud top entrainment was the dominant mixing mechanism.
