在工程界存在着滑坡安全系数取值应考虑滑坡稳定性高低、对稳定系数较低的滑坡应采用较大的安全系数的思想。考虑滑坡稳定性的具体方式有两种:①考虑滑坡的实际稳定状态或变形情况;②考虑设计工况下的稳定系数。考虑滑坡稳定性的理由也有两种:①变形急剧势必危害较大;②滑坡在治理后的安全储备可用"安全储备系数"(即下滑力按安全系数放大后的剩余下滑力与下滑力不作改变时的剩余下滑力之比)来衡量,而"安全储备系数"存在着随稳定系数的减小而减小的规律。文章的研究表明,滑坡变形越急剧滑坡危害越大的规律是不存在的,滑坡"安全储备系数"既不能衡量滑坡在治理后的安全储备,也不随滑坡稳定系数的减小而减小,滑坡安全系数与稳定系数无关,将安全系数取值与稳定系数大小挂钩会导致诸多不合理现象产生。因此,滑坡安全系数取值不应考虑稳定系数大小。  相似文献

A demonstration is given that the Gamma Transformation Method (GTM) does not achieve its objective insofar as it gives an estimate of the median and not of the mode (unless they coincide) of a given distribution. Nevertheless, because of the inherent high capability of the method to symmetrize a group of data and of its potential validity and use in other statistical fields, a GTM program which can be used on a programmable pocket or portable calculator is presented.  相似文献

Since its release in June 2005, Google Earth has been bringing satellite images of our planet into our homes, or at least to those homes with broadband connections. Computer users, excited by seeing their own houses from on high, or even their cars parked in the drive, have been raving about this impressive piece of software which can be downloaded to your PC (but not, as yet, your Mac) free of charge. After a weekend playing around with Google Earth, I can confirm that there is a whole range of potential applications for this software in teaching Earth science.  相似文献

The use of geosynthetic to reinforce soft-soils or peat in order to improve the load-settlement response is quite common. In such cases a layer of engineered fill, reinforced with a geosynthetic, is placed on the soft ground and the load is supported by the granular fill. In the present paper a procedure is outlined for the analysis of such a geothynthetic reinforced soil system. The granular fill is assumed to be rigid-strain hardening plastic and the soft soil is modeled by a Winkler type foundation. The grid is considered to be “rough” on its surfaces and be linearly elastic when subjected to tensile stresses. A simple transform function is used in the analysis. Through the analysis performed the influence of various factors such as the degree of overconsolidation (through compaction) of the fill, its dilatational properties, and the tangent modulus of the geogrid are investigated and discussed.  相似文献

High-pressure rocks of the eclogite zone (Tauern Window, Eastern Alps) formed at 20 kb/600°C. Uplift was fast without post-burial heating. Extensive near-field and far-field deformation of the eclogite zone and its surroundings provide evidence for a tectonic uplift mechanism. Published emplacement models (buoyant rise, underplating and extension, wrench faulting) create distinct patterns of crustal deformation, and are therefore testable by structural analysis. We show that emplacement-related deformation and its kinematics are consistent with underplating and extension. Extension is two-phased. The first phase may be driven by changes in rate or direction of plate convergence. The second phase is due to large-scale underplating of continental crust.  相似文献

World War I (WWI) battlefields contain a large diversity of buried features that are situated just below the plough layer. A noninvasive interdisciplinary approach is preferred to characterize the buried heritage embedded within its soil landscape. In this study, the potential of integrating both electrical conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements from a multireceiver electromagnetic induction (EMI) instrument at a heavily shelled WWI battlefield was evaluated. Primarily, both measurements allowed the attribution of approximate depth interval to the buried trench remains. These remains proved dominantly present within the 0.4–0.8 m depth interval. Subsequently, both apparent electrical conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements were separately integrated to improve the contrast between buried features and their surrounding background. Trenches that were ditches filled with topsoil material could be distinguished from trenches that were continuously or partially filled with metal reinforcements or debris. To conclude, integrating multiple signals from a multireceiver EMI system allowed for a more straightforward discrimination of the buried WWI relicts.  相似文献

伊犁-哈萨克斯坦板块和塔里木-卡拉库姆板块之间的南天山造山带是‘中亚型造山带’的典型代表之一,经历了复杂的构造演化与地壳增生过程。传统上,它被视为华力西期褶皱带或晚古生代碰撞造山带。但近年来,部分学者提出它可能为三叠纪碰撞造山带。本文在综述南天山造山带的蛇绿岩、高压变质岩、花岗岩类等方面研究成果的基础上,讨论了其碰撞造山的时限。我国境内南天山西段碰撞造山可能开始于早石炭世(345Ma),结束于晚石炭世末(300Ma左右)。二叠纪时期,南天山至整个中亚地区进入后碰撞演化阶段。现有资料证实南天山为一晚古生代碰撞造山带,并非一三叠纪碰撞造山带。  相似文献

A new variety of matrices based on synthetic phases whose structure is close to that of murataite (a natural mineral) is proposed for immobilization of nuclear wastes. Murataite is Na, Ca, REE, Zn, and Nb titanate with a structure derived from the fluorite lattice. This very rare mineral was found in alkali pegmatites from Colorado in the United States and the Baikal region in Russia. The synthetic murataite-like phases contain manganese instead of zinc, as well as actinides and zirconium instead of sodium, calcium, and niobium. Varieties with threefold, as in the mineral, and five-, seven-, and eightfold repetition of the lattice relative to the fluorite cell have been established. Correspondingly, the structural varieties M3, M5, M7, and M8 are recognized among the synthetic murataites. A decrease in the contents of actinides, rare earth elements, and zirconium occurs in the series M7-M5-M8-M3, along with enrichment in Ti, Al, Fe, and Ga. Murataite-based ceramics are characterized by high chemical and radiation stability. The rate of U, Th, and Pu leaching with water at 90°C in static and dynamic tests is 10?6–10?5 g/m2 per day. These values are lower than the leaching rate of other actinide confinement matrices, for example, zirconolite-or pyrochlore-based. Murataite is close to other titanates in its radiation resistance. At 25°C, amorphization of its lattice is provided by a radiation dose of 2 × 1018 α decays/g, or 0.2 displacements/atom. Murataite-based matrices are synthesized within a few hours by cold compacting combined with sintering at 1300°C or by melting at 1500–1600°C and subsequent crystallization. The melting technology, including induction smelters with a cold crucible, makes it possible to produce samples with zonal murataite grains. The inner zone of such grains is composed of structural variety M5 or M7; the intermediate zone, of M8; and the outer zone, of M3. The contents of actinides, zirconium, and rare earth elements reach a maximum in the inner zone and drop to a minimum in the outer zone, while the amounts of nonradioactive elements—Ti, Al, Fe, and Ga—vary conversely. The U, Th, and Pu contents in the inner and outer zones differ by three to five times. Such a distribution precludes removal of actinides by interaction of the matrix with solution after its underground disposal. Individual actinides (Np, Pu, Am); the actinide-zirconium-rare earth fraction of high-level radioactive wastes (HLW); Am-Ga residues of weapons plutonium reprocessing with its conversion into U-Pu mixed oxide (MOX) fuel; and other sorts of HLW enriched in actinides, REE, and products of corrosion (Mn, Fe, Al, Zr) can be incorporated into a murataite-based matrix. As much as 350 kg of HLW components can be included in 1 t of such a ceramic. An actinide matrix that is composed of titanates with a pyrochlore structure is its nearest analogue. The advantage of murataite in comparison with pyrochlore consists in its universal character; i.e., a murataite-based matrix can be used for utilization of a wider range of actinide-bearing highly radioactive wastes.  相似文献

The common alteration assemblage produced by serpentinization of ultramafic rocks is: lizardite, chrysotile, magnetite±brucite±antigorite. Lizardite-chrysotile serpentinites are more common than antigorite; the presence of antigorite indicates that the serpentinite has undergone prograde metamorphism or that the periootite was serpentinized in a higher P,T regime than lizardite and chrysotile. The iron subsitution into serpentine minerals and brucite is a function of temperature at low fO2, with increased temperature enhancing magnetite formation. The presence of awaruite and native Fe are strong evidence for a locally very reducing environment. Isotopic studies have shown a wide variety of origins for the fluids involved in serpentinization. The increased boron content of serpentinized rocks when compared to boron contents of the parent ultramafic body indicates a possible sea water origin for the fluids. Serpentinization takes place under both constant volume and constant chemical composition conditions. The factors in evaluating the importance of the two processes for an individual serpentinite are: (1) determination of the mineral assemblage and its paragenesis, (2) the structural and tectonic relationship of the ultramafic body to its country rock, (3) fluid access to the rock in duration and amount, and (4) timing of serpentinization - before, during or after emplacement into the crust.  相似文献

'Race' for many years has been a major construct of science and society. While its importance as such has not historically been particularly pronounced on a global scale, the emergence of its most forceful architects, the Anglophone countries, to pre-eminence since World War II has significantly extended its geographical range and added to its significance as an idea within commercialized culture as well as within social organization.In the present paper, 'race' is critically examined from the following angles: 1) its role in the behavioral and medical sciences; b) its historical origins and manifestations within the Anglophone countries, particularly the United States; and c) its emergence as a 'liberal' concept and operating principle since World War II. Questions of why and how 'race' arose and its continued use in science, society and culture drive both the trajectory and depth of this research. 'Race' is found to be a modern construct which arose as a consequence of colonialism and slavery, and was substantially constructed in its present form and substance by England and its off-spring societies, particularly the United States. 'Race' was not used as a term expressing a social idea until modern times, and had no basis in the primordial civilizations which greatly influenced modern Western societies (e.g., ancient Greece and Rome). Efforts undertaken by liberals – particularly in the United States – to 'humanize' the concept of 'race' since the 1960's have been largely unsuccessful. 'race' is viewed as inherently hierarchical, a fact which is evident from its historical and present role in science and society.  相似文献

Testing TEM systems has to include field experiments with physical models commensurate to the real transmitter–receiver configurations and to the target subsurface features. A large horizontal loop closed across a known resistance is a convenient model in this respect. It is convenient to lay in the field, it has manageable parameters, and its natural response is easy to calculate.A field-size experiment and numerical modeling were applied to investigate the model wire loop response to eddy current in a uniform conductive ground, both at early and late times. The higher the resistivity of the ground the larger the time range in which the measured response matches the predicted one, other things being equal.The experiments show that (i) closed loops laid near a transmitter–receiver system are applicable to test the quality of the latter as a tool for TEM or other similar resistivity surveys; (ii) current induced in the model loop can be used to infer the resistivity of the ground; (iii) a closed loop slows down the growth and reduces the amplitude of voltage induced at early times in a receiver loop or in a multiturn coil.  相似文献

The possible roles of siderophores (high affinity chelators of iron(III)) in the biogeochemistry of manganese remain unknown. Here we investigate the interaction of Mn(III) with a pyoverdine-type siderophore (PVDMnB1) produced by the model Mn(II)-oxidizing bacterium Pseudomonas putida strain MnB1. PVDMnB1 confirmed typical pyoverdine behavior with respect to: (a) its absorption spectrum at 350-600 nm, both in the absence and presence of Fe(III), (b) the quenching of its fluorescence by Fe(III), (c) the formation of a 1:1 complex with Fe(III), and (d) the thermodynamic stability constant of its Fe(III) complex. The Mn(III) complex of PVDMnB1 had a 1:1 Mn:pvd molar ratio, showed fluorescence quenching, and exhibited a light absorption spectrum (Amax = 408-410 nm) different from that of either PVDMnB1-Fe(III) or uncomplexed PVDMnB1. Mn(III) competed strongly with Fe(III) for binding by PVDMnB1 in culture filtrates (pH 8, 4°C). Equilibration with citrate, a metal-binding ligand, did not detectably release Mn from its PVDMnB1 complex at a citrate/PVDMnB1 molar ratio of 830 (pH 8, 4°C), whereas pyrophosphate under the same conditions removed 55% of the Mn from its PVDMnB1 complex. Most of the PVDMnB1-complexed Mn was released by reaction with ascorbate, a reducing agent, or with EDTA, a ligand that is also oxidized by Mn(III). Data on the competition for binding to PVDMnB1 by Fe(III) vs. Mn(III) were used to determine a thermodynamic stability constant (nominally at 4°C) for the neutral species MnHPVDMnB1 (log K = 47.5 ± 0.5, infinite dilution reference state). This value was larger than that determined for FeHPVDMnB1 (log K = 44.6 ± 0.5). This result has important implications for the metabolism, solubility, speciation, and redox cycling of manganese, as well as for the biologic uptake of iron.  相似文献

Summary Capillary barriers, consisting of fine-over-coarse soil layers, are being considered as an alternative cover component for waste-disposal facilities, especially in dry climates. Infiltrating water is removed from the fine layer by evaporation or transpiration, or percolation into the coarse layer (failure). If the fine-coarse interface is sloped, water in the fine layer can also drain laterally under unsaturated conditions. The effectiveness of two capillary barriers in laterally diverting water was tested. The barriers were 7 m long and 1.2 m thick, built on a 10% slope. One had a homogeneous fine layer, while the fine layer of the other was layered to increase its ability to divert water laterally. The barriers were first subjected to constant infiltration (10 mm/day) followed by exposure to ambient climatic conditions. The layered capillary barrier was successful in laterally diverting water near the interface and did not permit any water to enter the coarse layer. In contrast, the homogeneous capillary barrier failed over its entire length. These results indicate that a significant lateral diversion capacity can be designed into capillary barriers, greatly increasing their effectiveness.  相似文献

Landslides are a main cause of human and economic losses worldwide. For this reason, landslide hazard assessment and the capacity to predict this phenomenon have been topics of great interest within the scientific community for the implementation of early warning systems. Although several models have been proposed to forecast shallow landslides triggered by rainfall, few models have incorporated geotechnical factors into a complete hydrological model of a basin that can simulate the storage and movement of rainwater through the soil profile. These basin and full hydrological models have adopted a physically based approach. This paper develops a conceptual and physically based model called open and distributed hydrological simulation and landslides—SHIA_Landslide (Simulación HIdrológica Abierta, or SHIA, in Spanish)—that is supported by geotechnical and hydrological features occurring on a basin-wide scale in tropical and mountainous terrains. SHIA_Landslide is an original and significant contribution that offers a new perspective with which to analyse shallow landslide processes by incorporating a comprehensive distributed hydrological tank model that includes water storage in the soil coupled with a classical analysis of infinite slope stability under saturated conditions. SHIA_Landslide can be distinguished by the following: (i) its capacity to capture surface topography and effects concerning the subsurface flow; (ii) its use of digital terrain model (DTM) to establish the relationships among cells, geomorphological parameters, slope angle, direction, etc.; (iii) its continuous simulation of rainfall data over long periods and event simulations of specific storms; (iv) its consideration of the effects of horizontal and vertical flow; and (vi) its inclusion of a hydrologically complete water process that allows for hydrological calibration. SHIA_Landslide can be combined with real-time rainfall data and implemented in early warning systems.  相似文献

According to the present concept for final storage of spent nuclear fuel in Sweden, the spent fuel, encapsulated in copper or copper/steel canisters, will be placed in tunnels in a deep rock formation. The canisters will be surrounded by compacted bentonite clay acting as a buffer material. In connection with a safety analysis of such a storage facility, the total solubility of certain elements (e.g., uranium) as well as the transport properties (e.g., retardation due to sorption on mineral surfaces) of the long-lived radionuclides released from the canister have to be predicted or measured. The chemical conditions, governing the solubility and speciation of trace elements encountered in and around the repository depend on interactions between the ground water and the engineering materials in the repository and a production of oxidants due to radiolysis in the spent fuel. In the present study the speciation and solubility of uranium and neptunium in a bentonite-ground water system and in ground waters with compositions measured at a site at äspö, SE Sweden, have been calculated. The calculations have been carried out using a recent version of the geochemical computer code PHREEQE and the database HATCHES 5.0. Predictions of the uranium and neptunium concentrations in the ground water in the vicinity of a damaged high level waste repository have also been performed. The uranium concentration in the water in the bentonite barrier is predicted to be of the same order of magnitude or lower than that found in some granitic ground waters. For neptunium the calculations are uncertain due to the small amount of experimentally determined thermodynamic data and few verifications under the conditions (pH - Eh - carbonate concentration) considered. The predicted concentrations (ca 10–12 m, corresponds to ca 0.006 Bq/l) may be regarded as high, considering the high toxicity of neptunium and its long half-life.  相似文献

The review presented covers: (a) historical introduction; (b) some analytical comments; (c) some peculiarities of the As geochemistry in environment; (d) an estimation of coal Clarke value of As; (e) some coals enriched in As; (f) mode of As occurrence in coal; (g) factors influencing the As distribution in coal matter and coal bed; (h) genetic topics; (i) some topics related to environmental impact of As by the coal combustion.The World average As content in coals (coal Clarke of As) for the bituminous coals and lignites are, respectively, 9.0±0.8 and 7.4±1.4 ppm. On an ash basis, these contents are higher: 50±5 and 49±8 ppm, respectively. Therefore, As is a very coalphile element: it has strong affinity to coal matter — organic and (or) inorganic but obligatory authigenic. The coalphile affinity of As is like that for Ge or S.There is strong regional variability of As distribution due to geologic variability of the individual coal basins. For example, bituminous coals in Eastern Germany, Czech Republic and SE China are enriched in As, whereas the coals in South Africa or Australia are very depleted compared to coal Clarke of As. In general, some relationship exists between As content and its mode of occurrence in coals. Typically, at high As content, sulphide sites dominate (pyrite and other more rare sulphides), whereas at low As content, Asorg dominates, both being authigenic. A contribution of the terrigenic As (in silicates) is usually minor and of the biogenic Asbio (derived from coal-forming plants) is poorly known.Both organic and inorganic As can exist not only as chemically bound form but also in the sorbed (acid leacheable) arsenate form. With increasing coal rank, sorbed exchangeable arsenate content decreases, with a minimum in the coking coals (German data: the Ruhr coals).Relations of As content in coal to ash yield (or its partitioning in sink–float fractions) and to coal petrographic composition are usually complicated. In most cases, these relations are controlled by main site (form) of As — Aspyr or Asorg. If Aspyr dominates, an As accumulation in heavy fractions (or in high-ash coals) is observed, and if Asorg dominates, it is enriched in medium-density fractions (or low- and medium-ash coals). Arsenic is in part accumulated in the inertinite vs. vitrinite (Asorg ?).There are four genetic types of As accumulation on coal: two epigenetic and two syngenetic: (1) Chinese type—hydrothermal As enrichment, sometimes similar to known Carlin type of As-bearing telethermal gold deposits; (2) Dakota type—hypergene enrichment from ground waters draining As-bearing tufa host rocks; (3) Bulgarian type—As enrichment resulting from As-bearing waters entered coal-forming peat bogs from sulphide deposit aureoles; (4) Turkish type—volcanic input of As in coal-forming peat bog as exhalations, brines and volcanic ash.During coal combustion at power plants, most of the initial As in coal volatilizes into the gaseous phase. At the widely used combustion of pulverized coal, most of Asorg, Aspyr and “shielded” As-bearing micromineral phases escape into gaseous and particulate phase and only minor part of Asclay remains in bottom ash. The dominant fraction of escaping As is in fly ash. Because 97–99% of the fly ash is collected by electrostatic precipitators, the atmospheric emission of As (solid phase and gaseous) is usually assumed as rather minor (10–30% from initial As in coal). However, fly ash disposal creates some difficult environmental problems because it is potentially toxic in natural waters and soils. The As leaching rate from ash disposal is greatly controlled by the ash chemistry. In natural environment, As can be readily leached from acid (SiO2-rich) bituminous coal ashes but can be very difficult from alkali (CaO-rich) lignite ashes.If the Aspyr form dominates, conventional coal cleaning may be an efficient tool for the removing As from coal. However, organic-bound or micromineral arsenic (“shielded” grains of As-bearing sulphides) are not removed by this procedure.Some considerations show that “toxicity threshold” of As content in coal (permissible concentration for industrial utility) may be in the range 100–300 ppm As. However, for different coals (with different proportions of As-forms), and for different combustion procedures, this “threshold” varies.  相似文献

More than half of the approximately 650 paleopoles reported from all Precambrian cratons have been obtained from North America. The observations have spurred a proliferation of apparent polar wander paths to support different hypotheses for the tectonic evolution of the continent. Many of the reasons for this development can be traced to the inadequacy of the data base with its average of only 1.6 poles 10 Ma?1 (as compared to 7 poles 10?1 Ma for the last 300 Ma). Even when it is assumed that a ·primary’ pole has been derived from each rock unit sampled, the total number of ·primary’ poles (excluding the 900–1200 Ma interval) yields an average of only 0.4 pole 10 Ma?1. An inspection of the data base shows a non-systematic sampling of a non-continuous (fragmented) paleomagnetic record with gaps as large as tens and even hundreds of Ma. More importantly, a search through the literature reveals that very few poles have an age known to better than 50 Ma and for many poles the age bracket could be as large as a few hundreds of Ma. This is partly owing to the fact that radiometric and paleomagnetic sites rarely originate from the same localities. It is shown that this limited data base with all its deficiencies and uncertainties cannot be used to support certain hypotheses, or for the drawing of a meaningful apparent polar path for the whole of the Precambrian. It appears that, because of the enormous time scale, Precambrian paleomagnetism should rather be directed towards the construction of segments of polar paths such as those in the 900–1200 Ma interval. Comparison of well dated contemporaneous segments from different parts (or structural provinces) could be used most effectively to delineate relative movements, if any, and reconstruct the mosaic of the past continent for certain time intervals. One of the recent developments of Precambrian paleomagnetism has been to show that the apparent pole did not remain constrained to the equatorial region, but made several excursions into high latitudes.  相似文献

There is a growing emphasis on preserving ecological resilience, or a system’s capacity to absorb or recover quickly from perturbations, particularly in vulnerable coastal regions. However, the factors that affect resilience to a given disturbance are not always clear and may be system-specific. We analyzed and synthesized time series datasets to explore how extreme events impacted a large system of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in upper Chesapeake Bay and to identify and understand associated mechanisms of resilience. We found that physical removal of plants around the edge of the bed by high flows during a major flood event as well as subsequent wind-driven resuspension of newly deposited sediment and attendant light-limiting conditions were detrimental to the SAV bed. Conversely, it appears that the bed attenuated high flows sufficiently to prevent plant erosion at its inner core. The bed also attenuated wind-driven wave amplitude during seasonal peaks in plant biomass, thereby decreasing sediment resuspension and increasing water clarity. In addition, clear water appeared to “spill over” into adjacent regions during ebb tide, improving the bed’s capacity for renewal by creating more favorable growing conditions in areas where plant loss had occurred. These analyses demonstrate that positive feedback processes, whereby an SAV bed modifies its environment in ways that improve its own growth, likely serve as mechanisms of SAV resilience to flood events. Although this work focuses on a specific system, the synthetic approach used here can be applied to any system for which routine monitoring data are available.  相似文献

Experiments on compositions along the join MgO–NaA3+Si2O6 (A=Al, Cr, Fe3+) show that sodium can be incorporated into ferropericlase at upper mantle pressures in amounts commonly found in natural diamond inclusions. These results, combined with the observed mineral parageneses of several diamond inclusion suites, establish firmly that ferropericlase exists in the upper mantle in regions with low silica activity. Such regions may be carbonated dunite or stalled and degassed carbonatitic melts. Ferropericlase as an inclusion in diamond on its own is not indicative of a lower mantle origin or of a deep mantle plume. Coexisting phases have to be taken into consideration to decide on the depth of origin. The composition of olivine will indicate an origin from the upper mantle or border of the transition zone to the lower mantle and whether it coexisted with ferropericlase in the upper mantle or as ringwoodite. The narrow and flat three phase loop at the border transition zone—lower mantle together with hybrid peridotite plus eclogite/sediments provides an explanation for the varying and Fe-rich nature of the diamond inclusion suite from Sao Luiz, Brazil.  相似文献

A two-stage procedure is described for the calculation of a best-fit ellipsoid from elliptical sections measured on three or more arbitrary planes. The first stage produces an initial, trial solution. This is used as a starting point for a standard, linear, least-squares treatment to determine the best-fit ellipsoid.Factors influencing the reliability of a solution (for example, number of measurements and quality of data) are discussed in the context of real and synthetic examples.
