Djerfisherite, a Cl-bearing potassium sulfide (K6Na(Fe,Ni,Cu)24S26Cl), is a widespread accessory mineral in kimberlite-hosted mantle xenoliths. Nevertheless, the origin of this sulfide in nodules remains disputable. It is usually attributed to the replacement of primary Fe–Ni–Cu sulfides when xenoliths interact with a K-and Cl-enriched hypothetical melt/fluid. The paper is devoted to a detailed study of the composition and morphology of djerfisherite from a representative collection (22 samples) of the deepest mantle xenoliths—sheared garnet peridotite, taken from the Udachnaya-East kimberlite pipe (Yakutia). Four types of djerfisherite were distinguished in the mantle rocks on the basis of morphology, spatial distribution, and relationships with the rock-forming and accessory minerals in the nodules. Type 1 was found in the rims of polysulfide inclusions in the rock-forming minerals of the xenoliths; there, it was younger than the primary sulfide assemblage pyrrhotite + pentlandite ± chalcopyrite. Type 2 formed rims around large polysulfide segregations (pyrrhotite+ pentlandite) in the xenolith interstices. Type 3 formed individual grains in the xenolith interstices together with other sulfides, silicates, oxides, phosphates, and carbonates. Type 4 was present as a daughter phase in the secondary melt inclusions which occurred in healed cracks in the rock-forming minerals of the xenoliths. Along with djerfisherite, the inclusions contained silicates, oxides, phosphates, carbonates, alkaline sulfates, chlorides, and sulfides. The results indicate that djerfisherite from the xenoliths is consanguine with kimberlite. Djerfisherite both in the sheared-peridotite xenoliths from the Udachnaya-East pipe and in different xenoliths from other kimberlite pipes worldwide formed owing to the interaction between the nodules and kimberlitic melts. Djerfisherite forming individual grains in the melt inclusions and xenolith interstices crystallized directly from the infiltrating kimberlitic melt. Djerfisherite bounding the primary Fe–Ni ± Cu sulfides formed by their replacement as a result of a reaction with the kimberlitic melt.  相似文献

Pyroxenite layers in the orogenic spinel lherzolite massifsof Ari?ge are porphyroclastic textured and range in compositionfrom spinel websterite to garnet clinopyroxenite. Each pyroxenitetype forms individual layers or occurs as part of compositelayers in which the Opx/Cpx and Sp/Gt ratios decrease from marginsto core. They are interpreted as crystalline segregations separatedby flow crystallization from continental tholeiites en routeto the surface. The primary magmatic phases consist of Al-richpyroxenes, together with a minor amount of spinel, which startedto crystallize at 1400?C and 20–22 kb pressure; the pyroxeneshave locally survived plastic strains and subsolidus rccrystallizationsand now occur in the form of clinopyroxene and orthopyroxenemegacrysts displaying unmixing features. Although the differentiated silicate liquid was fully expelledduring the flow crystallization process, the layered pyroxeniteshave concentrated the highly incompatible elements S and Cuand locally display significant chalcophile platinum-group elementenrichment (Pd, Pt). Cu and S behave coherently over the wholerange of pyroxenite composition; their highest concentrationsare found in the thinnest websterite layers or at the marginof composite layers. Microscopic investigation of 214 polishedthin sections shows these elements to be present as accessoryCu-Fe-Ni sulfides interstitial among the silicate phase or formingdiscrete bodies included in the relic pyroxene megacrysts. Allthese features indicate the presence of a sulfide liquid, immisciblewith the silicate magma, during the crystallization of the layeredpyroxenites. Sulfide liquid immiscibility probably occurredin response to thermal contrast between the pyroxenites andthe cooler surrounding peridotites. It is proposed that the megacryst-hosted sulfide inclusionswere trapped as linear arrays arranged on host megacryst growthplanes. Due to the slow cooling and complex unmixing historyof the megacrysts, these arrays have been transformed into coarse, isolated sulfide inclusions by subsolidus migration and spheroidizationprocesses. They started to crystallize at T = 1200?C as monosulfidesolid solution (MSS), probably coexisting with a minor amountof Ni- and Cu-rich sulfide liquid down to r=900?C. The reconstructionof the bulk chemistry of each individual inclusion reveals significantbetween-inclusion variations of Cu/Ni+ Fe and Ni/Fe ratios, which would result from strain-induced immobilization of theseliquids. On cooling, the high-temperature MSS has decomposedbelow 230?C into Ni-rich pyrrhotite, nickeliferous pentlandite, chalcopyrite and minor pyrite. The post-magmatic history ofthe interstitial sulfide grains was not unlike that of the inclusions, except at near-surface temperatures where the primary sulfidesresulting from unmixing of MSS have been partly altered intosecondary sulfides by serpentinizing aqueous fluids. In spite of these post-magmatic alterations, the inclusionsand the interstitial sulfide phases are remarkably homogeneousas regards their bulk Ni/Cu ratio, which is close to 3. Thisvalue is characteristic of sulfide separated from primary ratherthan partially differentiated tholeiitic melts. It is thus concludedthat the continental tholeiite parent to the layered pyroxeniteswas saturated with sulfides when it left its mantle source regioaIn this aspect, it would not be different from MORBs which containsimilar sulfide compositions. In both cases, sulfide fractionationcannot be ignored in models for chalcophile trace element fractionationduring initial evolution of these magmas.  相似文献

Xenoliths of metamorphic rocks with ferroglaucophane + albite + stilpnomelane + muscovite ± lawsonite ± pumpellyite are described fromn the rhylolitic tephra deposits of the Late Quaternary Phyriplaka Volcano, Milos, Aegean Island, Greece. The chemical bulk analyses reveal metabasaltic parent rocks with strongly modified chemical compositions. Unusual for common fresh basalt types is extreme Na2O combined with low K2O and rather low CaO. These are chemical characteristics of spilitic basalts. High iron in the bulk rock and very high Fe/Mg is probably the cause of extreme ferroglaucophane compositions. The metamorphic assemblages point to a high-p/low-T metamorphism in the pressure range 4–8 kb and with temperatures of about 350°C. Phyriplaka Volcano is likely to have only a shallow explosive center and ferroglaucophane rocks were ejected from the immediate basement of the island, which was uplifted after the metamorphic event.  相似文献

Basaltic andesite flows erupted between 1973 and 1980 from Arenal Volcano contain abundant inclusions of anorthosite, olivine gabbro, and pyroxenites, and megacrysts of olivine and anorthite. The anorthosites with large (20 mm) anorthite grains (An96-92) exhibit deformation twinning and granulation between grain boundaries. Some olivine gabbros have angular clasts of anorthite with bent twins, pyroxene, and olivine in a finer-grained matrix which is distinctly foliated. These textural features suggest that these inclusions were deformed. An exotic (xenolithic) origin is supported in part by the mineral compositions and the estimated temperatures of equilibration: a temperature of about 975° C is obtained by two-pyroxene and Fe-Ti oxide geothermometers for the gabbros, but two-pyroxene temperatures are higher (1064 to 1120° C) for the basaltic andesite host. The olivine gabbro is thought to have crystallized at a pressure between 8.5 and 9.5 kb; whereas the lava phenocrysts crystallized at a much lower pressure of less than 5 kb. These xenoliths probably represent fragments of the lower crust below Arenal volcano. The lava flows show evidence for some contamination especially from fragments of anorthite broken apart from the larger megacrysts and xenoliths. A few phenocrysts of plagioclase in the lava samples have deformation twins. The unusually high Al2O3 content (19.4 to 23.2 wt%) of the lava samples can be attributed directly to the addition of anorthite; in fact the observed chemical variation in the lava flows (the increasing alumina and lime contents with decreasing silica) can be explained by this contamination.  相似文献

Equilibration of natural olivine with (Fe, Ni)S in sealed silica glass tubes yields a value for the distribution constant for Ni/Fe exchange (KD3) of 27.7±3.5, for 1,200° C, product olivine and sulfide compositions in the ranges 96 to 97 mol% Fo and 15 to 70 mol% NiS, respectively, and run durations of 28 days. Electron microprobe analysis of product olivine was made on ~50 μm diameter grains separated from the sulfide matrix to eliminate the severe matrix interference experienced with in situ determination of trace and minor amounts of Ni. The present KD3 value is in general agreement with previous experimental results indicating KD 3~30 in the temperature range applicable to hypothesized magmatic models for Ni-Cu sulfide ore formation and with inferred KD3 values for the temperature range 400 to 600° C. The olivine and sulfide compositions of a selection of Ni-Cu sulfide deposits yield KD3 values appreciably lower than the corresponding equilibrium values, which argues against concentration of the sulfides to ore grade in their present locations as early magmatic sulfides. However, KD3 is significantly higher for Ni-Cu sulfide deposits metamorphosed to medium and high grade conditions. The good correlation of increasing approach to chemical equilibrium with increasing grade and pervasiveness of metamorphism is related to the marked temperature dependence of the mobility of Ni in olivine.  相似文献

Green, salitic pyroxenes occur as megacrysts and as cores in diopsidic pyroxene phenocrysts and microphenocrysts in a wyomingite lava from Hatcher Mesa, Leucite Hills, Wyoming. Al-rich phlogopite (16–21% Al2O3), apatite, Fe-Ti-oxide, Mg-rich olivine (Fo93) and orthopyroxene (En61) also occur as megacrysts or as inclusions in diopside phenocrysts. All of these phases are found in ultramafic xenoliths in the host lava, and petrographic and chemical evidence is presented that the megacrysts originate by the disaggregation of the xenoliths. It is concluded that the latter are accidental fragments of the wall rocks traversed by the wyomingite magma and it is suggested that the clinopyroxene-rich xenoliths, from which the green pyroxenes are derived, formed in the upper mantle as a result of local metasomatism or by crystallization from magmas of unknown composition during an earlier igneous event. The precise role of the clinopyroxene-rich xenoliths (which also contain apatite, Fe-Ti-oxide and amphibole) in the genesis of the Leucite Hills magmas cannot be elucidated on the basis of the available data, but it is unlikely that they represent the source material from which these magmas are derived.  相似文献

A suite of mafic pyroxenite xenoliths and clinopyroxene megacrysts was brought to the surface by Cenozoic nephelinites of the Jbel Saghro Volcanic Field (Anti-Atlas, Morocco). The large population of samples was subdivided into five groups: (i) clinopyroxenites sensu stricto; (ii) olivine clinopyroxenites; (iii) mica-bearing clinopyroxenites; (iv) kaersutite-bearing clinopyroxenites; (v) clinopyroxene megacrysts. These xenoliths display a cumulate texture (adcumulate, heteradcumulate with poikilitic clinopyroxene including olivine). The clinopyroxenes have the composition of augite and show an appreciable variation of MgO (7.02–14.80 wt.%), TiO2 (0.58–5.76 wt.%) and Al2O3 (2.81–12.38 wt.%) contents in grains. The clinopyroxenes are characterized by convex upward chondrite-normalized REE patterns, they display very similar trace element compositions with low contents of incompatible elements such as Rb (0−0.9 ppm), Ba (0.1–8.3 ppm), Th (0.1−0.3 ppm), U (0.01−0.04 ppm) and Nb (1.3–3.2 ppm). REE contents of the calculated melts in equilibrium with the clinopyroxene megacrysts and clinopyroxene from pyroxenite xenoliths are similar to those of the nephelinites exposed in Jbel Saghro. Crystallization temperatures of pyroxenite xenoliths and clinopyroxene megacrysts range from 950 °C to 1150 °C. Clinopyroxene barometry yielded pressure of crystallization ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 GPa for pyroxenite xenoliths and 0.3 to 0.7 GPa for clinopyroxene megacrysts. This pressure range is in agreement with pyroxenite xenoliths and clinopyroxene megacrysts being crystallized from their parental melts at the lower and upper crust.  相似文献

The 2,058 ± 4 Ma mafic–ultramafic Kevitsa intrusion is located in the Central Lapland greenstone belt, northern Finland. It is hosted by a Paleoproterozoic volcano–sedimentary sequence that contains komatiitic volcanic rocks and sulfide- and graphite-rich black schists. Economic Ni–Cu–(PGE) sulfide mineralization occurs in the middle part of the ultramafic lower unit of the intrusion. Two main types of ore are distinguished, “normal” and “Ni–PGE” ores. The normal ore is characterized by ~2 to 6 vol% disseminated sulfides and average Ni and Cu grades of 0.3 and 0.42 wt %, respectively (Ni/Cu < 1). The Ni–PGE ore has broadly similar sulfide contents, but a higher Ni grade and lower Cu grade. As a result, the Ni/Cu ratio reaches 15, much higher than in the normal ore. The Ni–PGE ores occur as irregular, discontinuous, lense-like bodies in the ultramafic rocks. Notably, the olivines in the Ni–PGE ore contain extremely high Ni contents of up to 14,000 ppm, which is significantly higher than the Ni content of olivine in other mafic–ultramafic igneous rocks globally (up to ~5,000 ppm) and in harmony with the associated Ni-rich sulfide assemblage containing pentlandite, millerite and pyrite. Microprobe mapping of olivine from the Ni–PGE ore suggests relatively low and homogeneous S contents and homogeneous distribution of Ni, Mg, Fe, which is inconsistent with the presence of sulfide inclusions in the olivine grains, or diffusion of Ni from interstitial sulfides into the olivine grains. We therefore conclude that Ni substitutes for Mg in the olivine lattice. The clinopyroxenes from the Ni–PGE ore also have unusually high Ni concentrations reaching 1,500 ppm and show a positive correlation with the nickel content of the associated olivine. The Nicpx/Niolivine is ~0.1 to 0.2 corresponding to high T partitioning of Ni between clinopyroxene and olivine. K D of 20 can account for the partitioning of nickel between olivine and the sulfide phase, consistent with magmatic equilibration. These data suggest that the olivine, clinopyroxene, and sulfides all crystallized from a basaltic magma with an unexceptionally high Ni content ranging from 300 to 1,100 ppm. The Ni–PGE ores are spatially associated with ultramafic xenoliths. Olivine in these ultramafic xenoliths have relatively high Fo contents (up to 90 mol %) and high Ni contents (up to 5,200 ppm) suggesting that the xenoliths formed from a komatiitic parental magma. It is proposed that assimilation by the Kevitsa magma of massive or semi-massive sulfides associated with komatiitic rocks elevated the Ni content of the magma and resulted in the formation of Ni–PGE ores and related extremely Ni-rich olivines.  相似文献

Rare dunite and 2-pyroxene gabbro xenoliths occur in banded trachyte at Puu Waawaa on Hualalai Volcano, Hawaii. Mineral compositions suggest that these xenoliths formed as cumulates of tholeiitic basalt at shallow depth in a subcaldera magma reservoir. Subsequently, the minerals in the xenoliths underwent subsolidus reequilibration that particularly affected chromite compositions by decreasing their Mg numbers. In addition, olivine lost CaO and plagioclase lost MgO and Fe2O3 during subsolidus reequilibration. The xenoliths also reacted with the host trachyte to form secondary mica, amphibole, and orthopyroxene, and to further modify the compositions of some olivine, clinopyroxene, and spinel grains. The reaction products indicate that the host trachyte melt was hydrous. Clinopyroxene in one dunite sample and olivine in most dunite samples have undergone partial melting, apparently in response to addition of water to the xenolith. These xenoliths do not contain CO2 fluid inclusions, so common in xenoliths from other localities on Hualalai, which suggests that CO2 was introduced from alkalic basalt magma between the time CO2-inclusion-free xenoliths erupted at 106±6 ka and the time CO2-inclusion-rich xenoliths erupted within the last 15 ka.  相似文献

The Jinwozi lode gold deposit in the eastern Tianshan Mountains of China includes auriferous quartz veins and network quartz veins that are exemplified by the Veins 3 and 210, respectively. This paper presents H‐, O‐isotope compositions and gas compositions of fluid inclusions hosted in sulfides and quartz, and S‐, Pb‐isotope compositions of sulfide separates collected from the principal Stage 2 ores in Veins 3 and 210. Fluid inclusions trapped in quartz and sphalerite are pseudo‐secondary and primary. They were trapped from the fluids during the successive or alternate precipitation of quartz with sulfides. H‐ and O‐isotope compositions of fluid inclusion of three pyrite and one quartz separates from Vein 210 plot within the field of degassed melt, which is evidence for the incorporation of magmatic fluid as well with some possibility of contribution of metamorphic water to the hydrothermal system since the two datasets show a higher oxygen isotopic ratio than those of degassed melt. However, δD and δ18O values of fluid inclusions hosted in sulfides and quartz from Vein 3 are distinctly lower than those from Vein 210. In addition, salinities of fluid inclusion from Vein 3, approximately 3 to 6 wt% NaCl equivalent, are considerably lower than those from Vein 210, which are approximately 8 to 14 wt% NaCl equivalent. Ore‐forming fluids of Veins 3 and 210 have migrated through the relatively high and low levels in the imbricate‐thrust column where rock deformation is characterized by dilatancy or ductile–brittle transition, respectively. Therefore, the ore‐forming fluid of Vein 3 is interpreted to have mixed with greater amounts of meteoric‐derived groundwater than that of Vein 210. Fluid inclusions hosted in sulfides contain considerably higher abundances of gaseous species of CO2, N2, H2S, and so on, than those hosted in quartz. Many of these gaseous species exhibit linear correlations with H2O. These linear trends are interpreted in terms of mixing between magmatic fluid and groundwater. The relative enrichment of gaseous species in fluid inclusions hosted in sulfides, coupled with the banded ore structure, suggests that the magmatic fluid was involved with the ore‐forming fluid in pulsation. Lead isotope compositions of 21 pyrite and galena separates form a linear trend, suggesting mixing of metallic materials from diverse reservoirs. The δ34S values of pyrite and galena range from +5.6‰ to +7.9‰ and from +3.1‰ to +6.3‰, respectively, indicating sulfur of the Jinwozi deposit has been leached mainly from the granodiorite and partly from the Jinwozi Formation by the circulating ore‐forming fluid.  相似文献

The mantle xenoliths in the Quaternary ChangbaishanVolcano in southern Jilin Province contain spinel-facies lherzolites. The equilibration temperatures for these samples range from 902oC to 1064oC based on the two-pyroxene thermometer of Brey and K?hler (1990), and using the oxybarometry of Nell and Wood (1991), the oxidation state was estimated from FMQ-1.32 to -0.38 with an average value of FMQ-0.81 (n?=?8), which is comparable to that of abyssal peridotites and the asthenospheric mantle. The fO2 values of peridotites, together with their bulk rock compositions (e.g., Mg#, Al2O3, CaO, Ni, Co, Cr) and mineral compositions (e.g., Mg# of olivine and pyroxene, Cr# [=Cr/[Cr+Al]] and Mg# [=Mg/[Mg+Fe2+] of spinel), suggest that the present-day subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) beneath the Changbaishan Volcano most likely formed from an upwelling asthenosphere at some time after the late Mesozoic and has undergone a low degree of partial melting. The studied lherzolite xenoliths show low concentrations of S, Cu, and platinum group elements (PGE), which plot a flat pattern on primitive-mantle normalized diagram. Very low concentrations in our samples suggest that PGEs occur as alloys or hosted by silicate and oxide minerals. The compositions of the studied samples are similar to those of peridotite xenoliths in the Longgang volcanic field (LVF) in their mineralogy and bulk rock compositions including the abundance of chalcophile and siderophile elements. However, they are distinctly different from those of peridotite xenoliths in other areas of the North China Craton (NCC) in terms of Cu, S and PGE. Our data suggest that the SCLM underlying the northeastern part of the NCC may represent a distinct unit of the newly formed lithospheric mantle.  相似文献

Basaltic glasses included in olivine phenocrysts from Kilauea volcano contain concentrations of H2O, CO2, and S similar to glassy Kilauean basalt dredged from the deep sea floor and greater than vesicular, subaerial Kilauean basalt. Our result contrasts with earlier reports that inclusions of basaltic glass in phenocrysts have little or no H2O and large ratios of CO2H2O. Our analysed inclusions of glass are larger than 100 micrometers thick and similar in chemical composition to the host glass surrounding the olivine crystals indicating that the trapped melts are representative of the bulk liquid from which the crystals grew. Crystallization of about 2–8% of olivine from the melts after they were trapped is indicated by slight departures from the experimentally established equilibrium distribution of Mg and Fe between olivine and liquid. The measured concentrations of CO2 correspond to phenocryst crystallization pressures of about 1.3 kbar for a subaerial basalt and about 5 kbar for a submarine basalt, consistent with geophysical models of Kilauea volcano. The compositions of volcanic gas predicted from our analyses are consistent with restored compositions of actual Kilauean gases. The rate of sulfur emission predicted from our analyses is greater than the sulfur dioxide emission rate observed during repose, but probably consistent with total degassing including eruptive episodes. The concentrations of H2O, K2O, Cl, and P in parental Kilauean basalt can be derived from upper mantle phlogopitic mica, pargasitic amphibole and apatite with compositions close to those of natural primary minerals in ultramafic xenoliths from continental kimberlites, or solely from apatite and phlogopitic mica with H2OK2O near 0.47 ± 0.03, slightly higher than the range of values reported. The amounts of phlogopitic mica and pargasitic amphibole contributing volatiles to Kilauean tholeiite is about 10 percent by mass of the parental liquid, or about 5% if the source does not include amphibole. In view of an estimated 20% of partial melting of mantle source rock to produce Kilauean tholeiites, there may be about 2 weight percent of mica plus amphibole in part of the mantle beneath Kilauea, or about 1 weight percent of phlogopitic mica if amphibole is absent.  相似文献

Mantle xenoliths are common in the Cenozoic basalts of the Changbaishan District,Jilin Province,China.Sulfide assemblages in mantle minerals can be divided into three types:isolated sulfide grains,sulfide-meh inclusions and filling sulfides in fractures.Sulfide-meh inclusions occur as single-phase sulfides,sulfide-silicate melt, and CO_2-sulfide-silicate melt inclusions. Isolated sulfide grains are mainly composed of pyrrhotite, but cubanite was found occasionally.Sulfide-meh inclusions are mainly composed of pontlandite and MSS,with small amounts of chalcopyrite and talnakhite. The calculated distribution coefficient K_(D3)for lherzolite are similar to that of mean experimental value. The bulk sulfides in lherzolite were in equilibrium with the enclosing minerals, indicating immiscible sulfide melts captured in partial melting of upper mantle.Sulfide in fractures has higher Ni/Fe and(Fe Ni)/S than those of sulfide melt inclusions. They might represent later metasomatizing fluids in the mantle.Ni/Fe and(Fe Ni)/S increase from isolated grains, sulfide inclusions to sulfides in fractures. These changes were not only affected by temperature and pressure, hut by geochemistry of Ni,Fe and Cu,and sulfur fugacity as well.  相似文献

A method has been developed for the in situ determination of Re-Os isotopes in single grains of sulfides in mantle-derived peridotites using a laser ablation microprobe attached to a multicollector-induced coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICPMS). High-precision Os isotope analysis by MC-ICPMS is demonstrated by the measurement of interlaboratory Os standards. Evaluation of mass bias correction procedures shows that the exponential law provides the best fit to the Os isotope data and that the ratio of the mass fractionation coefficients for Re and Os remains constant for the range of typical instrument operating conditions. This relationship enables the accurate and precise correction of the isobaric interference of 187Re on 187Os for 187Re/188Os values up to 1.6.Results are presented for single sulfide inclusions in olivine macrocryts from kimberlites in the Siberian and Slave Cratons, and sulfides enclosed in silicates and interstitial to silicates in peridotite xenoliths from the Slave Craton and Massif Central, France. Enclosed sulfides larger than 50 μm in diameter and with Os contents ≥40 ppm give 187Os/188Os ratios with a precision of 0.1% (2 SE), which is equivalent to N-TIMS whole-rock data. Interstitial sulfides typically have lower Os (10 to 30 ppm) and give analyses with lower precision (∼1 to 2%) but still provide valuable information on the movement of Os within the lithosphere. The sulfide inclusions in silicates preserve significantly less radiogenic Os isotopic compositions than interstitial sulfides and accordingly produce significantly older and more realistic Re-Os age information. Whole-rock Os isotope compositions reflect the proportions of different generations of enclosed and interstitial sulfides; this calls into question the significance of many published “depletion ages.”  相似文献

A high-alumina tholeiitic andesite from the southern portion of the Tweed Shield Volcano in northeastern New South Wales contains abundant megacrysts of plagioclase (Ab50An46Or4) and megacrysts of aluminian bronzite (Ca4Mg71Fe25) and relatively Ca-poor aluminian augite (Ca36Mg41Fe20). The pyroxenes commonly occur as inclusions in the plagioclase megacrysts. Electron probe microanalyses of the pyroxene megacrysts indicate that they differ in character and composition from the groundmass ferromagnesian phases, namely a more Al- and Na-poor augite (Ca41Mg42Fe17) and olivine (Fa53). The bulk composition of the plagioclase megacrysts is slightly more Ab-rich than that of the groundmass plagioclase, but differences in the two compositions are extended by microanalyses of groundmass plagioclases. Evaluation of the megacryst compositions in the light of experimental data and analogous occurrences in alkaline volcanics leads to the interpretation that the megacrysts represent cognate precipitates formed at pressures broadly equivalent to the crust-mantle boundary. More important, they provide strong evidence for the high pressure origin of tholeiitic andesites, customarily interpreted as the products of low pressure fractional crystallization of tholeiitic magma.  相似文献

The Cangyuan Pb-Zn-Ag polymetallic deposit is located in the Baoshan Block, southern Sanjiang Orogen. The orebodies are hosted in low-grade metamorphic rocks and skarn in contact with Cenozoic granitic rocks. Studies on fluid inclusions (FIs) of the deposit indicate that the ore-forming fluids are CO2-bearing, NaCl-H2O. The initial fluids evolved from high temperatures (462–498 °C) and high salinities (54.5–58.4 wt% NaCl equiv) during the skarn stage into mesothermal (260–397 °C) and low salinities (1.2–9.5 wt% NaCl equiv) during the sulfide stage. The oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions (δ18OH2O: 2.7–8.8‰; δD: −82 to −120‰) suggest that the ore-forming fluids are mixture of magmatic fluids and meteoric water. Sulfur isotopic compositions of the sulfides yield δ34S values of −2.3 to 3.2‰; lead isotopic compositions of ore sulfides are similar to those of granitic rocks, indicating that the sulfur and ore-metals are derived from the granitic magma. We propose that the Cangyuan Pb-Zn-Ag deposit formed from magmatic hydrothermal fluids. These Cenozoic deposits situated in the west of Lanping-Changdu Basin share many similarities with the Cangyuan in isotopic compositions, including the Laochang, Lanuoma and Jinman deposits. This reveals that the Cenozoic granites could have contributed to Pb-Zn-Cu mineralization in the Sanjiang region despite the abundance of Cenozoic Pb-Zn deposits in the region, such as the Jingding Pb-Zn deposit, that is thought to be of basin brine origin.  相似文献

Ultramafic inclusions and megacrysts are unusually abundant in a nephelinite sill in the Nandewar Mountains in north-eastern New South Wales. The inclusions are divisible into a Cr-diopside group and a Ti-augite group, the former being dominated by Cr-spinel Iherzolites of restricted modal composition, the latter by olivine and titaniferous Al-rich clinopyroxene assemblages which vary widely in their modal proportions. The principal megacryst species are olivine and black, titaniferous Al-rich clinopyroxene; additional but comparatively rare megacrysts include titanphlogopite, kaersutitic amphibole, and deep green, relatively Fe-rich clinopyroxene. The Cr-spinel Iherzolites conform closely in mineralogy and chemistry with the spinel lherzolites which dominate upper mantle xenolith assemblages in alkaline mafic volcanic rocks from other provinces. Megacrysts and Ti-augite inclusion mineral assemblages are consistently more Fe-rich than analogous phases in the Cr-diopside xenoliths and also display more extensive cryptic variation. The available experimental data on the high pressure liquidus or near-liquidus phases in olivine nephelinite and related compositions indicate that the olivine and black clinopyroxene megacrysts were precipitated at pressures in the vicinity of 15–20 kb. The similarity in the nature and compositions of the principal megacryst species to analogous phases in the Tiaugite group of inclusions indicates that the latter also represent cognate cumulates derived from the olivine nephelinite at broadly comparable pressures. High pressure fractionation of the host olivine nephelinite liquid, controlled mainly by the separation of olivine and aluminous clinopyroxene, produced only comparatively minor compositional changes in the derivative liquid. The hiatus in olivine compositions at approximately Fo86–88, apparently characteristic of the olivines in coexisting Cr-diopside and Ti-augite inclusions, is assessed in terms of the compositions of olivine in equilibrium with alkali basaltic liquids at high pressures.  相似文献

Spinel lherzolite and wehrlite xenoliths from the Cenozoic Calatrava volcanic field carry the geochemical imprint of metasomatic agents that have affected the subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneath Central Iberia. Some xenoliths (mainly wehrlites) were enriched in REE, Sr, P, and CO2 by silicic-carbonate-rich metasomatic melts/fluids, while others record the effects of subduction-related hydrous silicate fluids that have precipitated amphibole and induced high Ti/Eu in primary clinopyroxene. The petrographic observations and geochemical data suggest that interstitial glass in the xenoliths represent the quenched products of Si-rich melts that infiltrated the mantle peridotite shortly before the entrainment of the xenoliths in the host magmas that erupted ca 2 million years ago. During their infiltration, the metasomatic melts reacted with peridotite, resulting in silica enrichment, while remobilizing grains of iron-rich monosulfide solid solution (Fe-rich Mss) initially enclosed in, or intergranular to, primary olivine and pyroxenes. In situ laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry analysis of single sulfide grains reveals that the Fe-rich Mss in glass shows platinum-group element (PGE) patterns and 187Os/188Os compositions identical to the Fe-rich Mss occurring as inclusions in, or at grain boundaries of primary silicates. Moreover, independent of its microstructural position, Fe-rich Mss exhibits PGE and 187Os/188Os signatures typical of Mss either residual after partial melting or crystallized directly from sulfide melts. Our findings reveal that young metasomatic melt(s)/fluid(s) may carry remobilized sulfides with PGE and Os-isotopic signatures identical to those of texturally older sulfides in the peridotite xenolith. These sulfides thus still provide useful information about the timing and nature of older magmatic events in the subcontinental mantle.  相似文献

Ikizdere Pluton consists of granite, granodiorite, tonalite, monzonite, quartz monzonite containing pinkish colored K-feldspar megacrysts (KFMs). The crystal sizes of the KFMs range from 1 to 4 cm. The lath-shaped megacrysts are uniformly (i.e., randomly) distributed in the host plutonic rocks and have mafic and felsic inclusions whose crystal sizes are smaller than 1 mm. The crystal inclusions are biotite, slightly annitic in composition with XMg[=Fetot/(Fetot+Mg)]=0.50-0.58, amphibole (magnesio-hornblende, XMg[=Mg/(Mg+Fetot)]=0.70-0.79), iron-titanium oxide (low titanium magnetit and ilmenite), plagioclase (Ab75−25An65−35) and as minor quartz. The compositions of the KFMs range from Or95Ab5An0 to Or82Ab17An1. BaO contents of the megacrysts increase from core to rim. The mafic and felsic inclusions are compositionally similar those of the host rocks. The chemical and textural features of K-feldspar are typical for megacrysts that grew as phenocrysts in dynamic granitoidic magma systems. The overgrowth of KFMs and mafic magma injections (magma mixing) may be related to temperature, pressure and compositional fluctuations in the magma chamber. Remnant of earlier formed K-feldspar crystals remain in the felsic magma system, while the mafic injection can decompose some earlier precipitated KFMs. The remnant of K-feldspar remaining after mafic injection are overgrown by rapid diffusion of Ba, K and Na elements in liquid phase, during the later stages of crystallization of the host magma.  相似文献
