Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation for electrostatic ion acoustic wave in a three component plasma containing positive and negative ions along with the nonextensive electrons is derived. Fast and slow ion acoustic modes which propagate with different velocities are excited. The effects of variation of quantities like q (nonextensive parameter), Q (mass ratio of positive to negative ion), μ (electron to positive ion number density ratio), θ i (positive ion to electron temperature ratio) and θ n (negative ion to electron temperature ratio) have been presented for fast and slow ion acoustic modes. Both compressive and rarefactive solitons are observed. It is found that the solitary excitations strongly depend on the mass and density ratios of the positive and negative ions as well as on nonextensive electron parameter.  相似文献

Published experimental data on ion composition in the topside ionosphere are examined. For certain features (the light ion trough, the high-latitude trough, the high-latitude hole and the mid-latitude total ion concentration trough) it is pointed out that the number of major ions present may be 3 or more. Transport equations derived by Schunk and co-workers are extended to include the case of three major ions in the topside ionosphere. Specific calculations are made for the O+, H+ and He+ ions and the behaviour of the diffusion coefficients is discussed. From a model of the high-latitude ionization hole, described by Heelis et al., representative concentration and temperature profiles are obtained. These profiles are used to demonstrate further the behaviour of the ion diffusion coefficients.  相似文献

Ionization of the atmosphere of Titan by galactic cosmic rays is a very significant process throughout the altitude range of 100 to 400 km. An approximate form of the Boltzmann equation for cosmic ray transport has been used to obtain local ionization rates. Models of both ion and neutral chemistry have been employed to compute electron and ion density profiles for three different values of the H2/CH4 abundance ratio. The peak electron density is of the order 103 cm?3. The most abundant positive ions are C2H9+ and C3H9+, while the predicted densities of the negative ions H? and CH3? are very small (<10?4 that of the positive ions). It is suggested that inclusion of the ion chemistry is important in the computation of the H and CH3 density profiles in the lower ionosphere.  相似文献

Nonlinear properties of ion-acoustic (IA) shock are studied by incorporating the effects of electron nonextensivity in a warm electronegative plasma, whose constituents are the inertial positive/negative ions and q-distributed electrons. For this purpose, the evolution equations are solved to obtain Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) Burgers equation by using the reductive perturbation technique and its solution by the tanh method. Furthermore, the conditions for the existence of oscillatory and monotonic shocks are discussed. Numerically, it is found that IA shock propagation characteristics are significantly modified by the variation of plasma parameters, such as, the effects of electron nonextensivity, the positive and negative ion-to-electron temperature ratios (θ i ,θ n ), respectively. The former also affect the dispersion, dissipation and nonlinearity coefficients of the KPB equation involving the IA shocks. The present analyses could be useful for understanding the nonlinear shock wave excitations in space and laboratory plasmas, where two distinct groups of ions are present.  相似文献

By employing the reductive perturbation technique, nonlinear cylindrical and spherical Korteweg–de Vries Burgers (KdVB) equation is derived for ion acoustic shock waves in an unmagnetized electronegative plasma. The latter is composed of warm positive and warm negative ions as well as q-distributed nonextensive electrons. Numerically, the modified KdVB equation is solved to examine the impact of nonthermal electrons on the profiles of nonplanar fast ion acoustic shocks. With the help of experimental parameters, it is found that the variations of different quantities, like q (nonextensive parameter), α (the negative-to-positive ion mass ratio), μ (the electron-to-positive ion density ratio) and θ i (the positive ion-to-electron temperature ratio), η i0,n0 (the positive/negative ion viscosities) significantly modify the propagation characteristics of nonplanar shocks in electronegative plasmas. The relevance to a laboratory experiment is highlighted, where positive and negative ions are present.  相似文献

A simplified D-region model consisting of O2+, NO+ and their respective cluster ions grouped as Zo2+ and ZNO+ is used to reproduce the available rocket data on positive ion relative composition and effective clustering rates for the height range 70–90 km. The results of this analysis for a winter anomalous day (Sardinia, 40°N) are in good agreement with the presently known ideas on NO densities, O2+ production rates, mesospheric temperature, negative ion to electron density ratio and effective loss coefficient for electrons. Mesospheric nitric oxide density and temperature profiles from this study are in excellent agreement with the findings of Zbinden et al. (1975) and Hidalgo (1977) for the anomalous day at Sardinia.  相似文献

The nonlinear propagation of ion-acoustic waves is studied in an unmagnetized collissionless electronegative plasma, whose constituents are the inertial warm positive/negative ions and q-distributed nonextensive electrons. The latter have strong impact on the linear dispersion relation. However, for nonlinear analysis, a reductive perturbation technique is employed to derive a Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation accounting for nonthermal electrons in nonplanar geometries. Numerically, the effects of various plasma parameters, such as, the nonextensive parameter (q), the negative-to-positive ion mass ratio (α), the electron-to-positive ion number density ratio (μ), the positive ion-to-electron temperature ratio (θ i ) and negative ion-to-electron temperature ratio (θ n ), have been examined on the nonplanar compressive/rarefactive fast ion-acoustic solitons (where the wave phase speed is taken as λ>1). The relevance of our findings involving plasma wave excitations should be useful both for space and laboratory plasmas, where two distinct groups of ions besides the electrons, are present.  相似文献

An approximate form of the Boltzmann equation has been used to obtain local ionization rates due to the absorption of galactic cosmic rays in the Jovian atmosphere. It is shown that the muon flux component of the cosmic ray-induced cascade may be especially importannt in ionizing the atmosphere at levels where the total number density exceeds 1019 cm?3 (well below the ionospheric layers produced by solar euv). A model containing both positive and negative ion reactions has been employed to compute equilibrium electron and ion number densities. Peak electron number densities on the order of 103 cm?3 may be expected even at relatively low magnetic latitudes. The dominant positive ions are NH4+ and CnHm+ cluster ions, with n ? 2; it is suggested that the absorption of galactic cosmic ray energy at such relatively high pressures in the Jovian atmosphere (M ? 1018to 1020cm?3) and the subsequent chemical reactions may be instrumental in the local formation of complex hydrocarbons.  相似文献

The evolution of the charged particles are followed during contraction of a model of an interstellar cloud, with initial density number of n = 10 cm–3. The contraction is followed up to density increase by five orders of magnitude. Special care is given to the details of the negative ions. In addition, we have tested the ambipolar diffusion according to the results of the ion density. The results predict the importance of atomic ions in the diffuse regions. H+ and C+ are distinctly enhanced in the beginning of contraction but decrease as contraction proceeds. Molecular ions enhance as contraction proceeds and becomes important in dense regions. The most enhanced molecular ions are HCO+, O2 +, C2H3 +, H3O+ and SO+, H3 + is less abundant. The atomic ions (except metalic ions) decrease noticeably as density increases. In general the negative ions are of negligible fractional abundances. It has also been found that the time of ambipolar diffusion is shorter than the dynamical time, hence the magnetic field should be weakened in the central core as the central density increases to n = 104 cm–3.  相似文献

The nonlinear ion-acoustic double layers (IADLs) in a warm magnetoplasma with positive-negative ions and nonthermal electrons are investigated. For this purpose, the hydrodynamic equations for the positive-negative ions, nonthermal electron density distribution, and the Poisson equation are used to derive a modified Zakharov–Kuznetsov (MZK) equation, in the small amplitude regime. It is found that compressive and rarefactive IADLs strongly depend on the mass and density ratios of the negative-to-positive ions as well as the nonthermal electron parameter. Also, it is shown that there are one critical value for the density ratio of the negative-to-positive ions (ν), the ratio between unperturbed electron-to-positive ion density (μ), and the nonthermal electron parameter (β), which decide the existence of positive and negative IADLs. The present study is applied to examine the small amplitude nonlinear IADL excitations for the (H+, O2-)(\mathrm{H}^{+}, \mathrm{O}_{2}^{-}) and (H+,H) plasmas, where they are found in the D- and F-regions of the Earth’s ionosphere. This investigation should be helpful in understanding the salient features of the nonlinear IADLs in either space or laboratory plasmas where two distinct groups of ions and non-Boltzmann distributed electrons are present.  相似文献

The particle aspect approach is adopted to investigate the trajectories of charged particles in the electromagnetic field of kinetic Alfven wave. Expressions are found for the dispersion relation, damping rate and associated currents in homogenous plasma. Kinetic effects of electrons and ions are included to study kinetic Alfven wave because both are important in the transition region. It is found that the ratio β of electron thermal energy density to magnetic field energy density and the ratio of ion to electron thermal temperature (Ti/Te) affect the dispersion relation, damping-rate and associated currents in both cases (warm and cold electron limits). The treatment of kinetic Alfven wave instability is based on the assumption that the plasma consists of resonant and non-resonant particles. The resonant particles participate in an energy exchange process, whereas the non-resonant particles support the oscillatory motion of the wave.  相似文献

For the first time, a model of the daytime disturbed D-region is presented which is consistent with experimental solar proton event (SPE) data, that of the 2–5 November, 1969 event in particular. Sunset electron concentration profiles also are shown to be quite compatible with the experimental results, but computed sunrise electron concentrations are found to rise faster with solar elevation than do the measurements. In the daytime, O2?, O?, CO4? and CO3? ions apparently do not retain electrons in contrast to NO2? and NO3? ions. Hydration of the latter two species is probably unimportant since photodetachment and/or photodissociation of these ions are insignificant processes even when they are unattached to water molecules. Difficulties at sunrise are thought to arise most likely from our omission of hydration processes for negative ions, the pre-sunrise negative ion populations undoubtedly having the highest diurnal hydration level. Sunset ozone computations using the latest chemistry are shown to match the data except for some problem at the highest altitude, near 70 km, for the earlier, more disturbed, of the two experimental profiles.  相似文献

We have solved the coupled momentum and continuity equations for NO+, O2+, and O+ions in the E- and F-regions of the ionosphere. This theoretical model has enabled us to examine the relative importance of various processes that affect molecular ion densities. We find that transport processes are not important during the day; the molecular ions are in chemical equilibrium at all altitudes. At night, however, both diffusion and vertical drifts induced by winds or electric fields are important in determining molecular ion densities below about 200 km. Molecular ion densities are insensitive to the O+ density distribution and so are little affected by decay of the nocturnal F-region or by processes, such as a protonospheric flux, that retard this decay. The O+ density profile, on the other hand, is insensitive to molecular ion densities, although the O+ diffusion equation is formally coupled to molecular ion densities by the polarization electrostatic field. Nitric oxide plays an important role in determining the NO+ to O2+ ratio in the E-region, particularly at night. Nocturnal sources of ionization are required to maintain the E-region through the night. Vertical velocities induced by expansion and contraction of the neutral atmosphere are too small to affect ion densities at any altitude.  相似文献

Properties of propagation of large amplitude dust ion-acoustic solitary waves and double layers are investigated in electron-positron-ion plasma with highly charged negative dust. Sagdeev pseudopotential method has been used to derive the energy balance equation. The expression for the critical Mach number (lower/upper limit) for the existence of solitary structures has also been derived. The Sagdeev pseudopotential is a function of numbers of physical parameters such as ion temperature (σ), positron density (δ p ), dust density (δ d ) and electron to positron temperature ratio (β). These parameters significantly influence the properties of the solitary structures and double layers. Further it is found that both polarity (compressive and rarefactive) solitons and negative potential double layers are observed.  相似文献

Effects of plasma turbulence on the stability of electrostatic ion loss-cone waves are examined. The turbulence is assumed to be electrostatic with frequencies near 1.5 times the electron gyrofrequency and the frequencies of the generated waves are below the ion plasma frequency ωpi>. A nonlinear growth rate of the order of 10?2ωpi may be obtained, when the amplitude of the turbulence is 20 mV/m. This is comparable to previously found growth rates of the linear ion loss-cone instability, in a plasma with large pitch angle anisotropy. Bounce averaged pitch angle diffusion coefficients are also presented for different models of the ion loss-cone wave spectrum.  相似文献

Dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves in an unmagnetized dusty plasma system consisting of inertial ions, negatively charged immobile dust, and superthermal (kappa distributed) electrons with two distinct temperatures are investigated both numerically and analytically by deriving Korteweg–de Vries (K-dV), modified K-dV (mK-dV), and Gardner equations along with its double layers (DLs) solutions using the reductive perturbation technique. The basic features of the DIA Gardner solitons (GSs) as well as DLs are studied, and an analytical comparison among K-dV, mK-dV, and GSs are also observed. The parametric regimes for the existence of both the positive as well as negative SWs and negative DLs are obtained. It is observed that superthermal electrons with two distinct temperatures significantly affect on the basic properties of the DIA solitary waves and DLs; and depending on the parameter μ c (the critical value of relative electron number density μ e1), the DIA K-dV and Gardner solitons exhibit both compressive and rarefactive structures, whereas the mK-dV solitons support only compressive structures and DLs support only the rarefactive structures. The present investigation can be very effective for understanding and studying various astrophysical plasma environments (viz. Saturn magnetosphere, pulsar magnetosphere, etc.).  相似文献

A first theoretical work is presented to study the propagation of two-solitons in an electron acoustic waves (EAWs) within the theoretical framework of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. For this purpose, cylindrical and spherical Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations are derived for electron acoustic solitary waves (EASWs) in an unmagnetized three species plasma system comprised of cold electrons, immobile ions and hot electrons featuring Tsallis statistics by employing the standard reductive perturbation method. The effects of electron nonextensivity and the fractional number density of the hot electrons relative to that of the cold ones number density (α) on the profiles of two-soliton structures are investigated numerically. Results would be helpful for understanding the localized structures that may occur in space plasmas.  相似文献

Theoretically the propagation of two ion acoustic soliton interaction in a three component collisionless unmagnetized plasma which consists of electrons, positrons and cold ions, has been investigated here by employing reductive perturbation technique. In this study, q distributed electrons and Maxwell-Boltzmann distributed positrons are considered and Korteweged-de Vries (KdV) equation is derived. The KdV equation is solved to get two soliton solution by using Hirota bilinear method. The effects of the q distributed electrons on the profiles of two soliton structures and the corresponding phase shifts are investigated. It is observed that both the nonextensive parameter (q) and the ratio of positrons density and electron density (p=n p0/n e0), play a significant role in the formation and existence of two soliton and also in the nature of their phase shifts.  相似文献

For the first time, height profiles of the stratospheric negative ion composition are presented. The results are from two nights of balloon borne mass spectrometers and cover an altitude range from 23.8 to 38.9 km. Below approx. 30km, NO?3 · mHNO3 ions are dominant. These are replaced by HSO4? · nH2SO4 · oHNO3 ions above this height. There are indications that the most abundant ions above 32 km have masses greater than 280 atomic mass units (amu), the instruments' mass range. The fractional ion count rates as a function of altitude are presented and their significance for neutral trace gas analysis and ion sampling is discussed.  相似文献
