Photodissociation lifetime of 32s2in comets is calculated by absorption of solar photons into the B3 state and velocity distributions of sulphur atoms are determined. Absorption of solar photons of wavelength ~ 280 nm leads to a photodissociation lifetime of about 250 s for 32S2 molecule in comets when sun-comet distance is 1 AU. Forbidden lines corresponding to 1D-3P transitions of neutral sulphur atom may be detectable at about 11 306 and 10 821 Å in comets. The production rate of 32S2 dimer in comet IRAS-Araki-Alcock 1983d compares well with the production rate of CS, observed in comet Bradfield, when compared at the same heliocentric distance. The chemistry of 32S2 dimer formation in the inner coma of a comet is discussed in the framework of some gas phase reactions.Work partially supported by the CNPq, Brasilia, Brasil under contract No. 30.4076/77.  相似文献

We systematically surveyed the orbits of short-period (SP) comets that show a large change of perihelion distance (q) between 1–2 AU (visible comets) and 4–5 AU (invisible comets) during 4400 years. The data are taken from Cosmo-DICE (Nakamura and Yoshikawa 1991a), which is a long-term orbital evolution project for SP comets. Recognizing that q is the most critical element for observability of comets, an invisibility factor (f), defined as the ratio of unobservable time span to observable span during 4400 years, is calculated for each of the large-q-change comets. A detection limit for each comet is obtained from the heliocentric distance at discovery and/or the absolute magnitude at recent apparitions. A mean f value for 35 SP comets with 2.9 J (J is the Tisserand's invariant) is found to be 19.8. This implies that for each visible SP comet of this J-range, at every epoch of time, there exist about 20 invisible comets near the capture orbits by Jupiter, under the assumptions of steady-state flux and ergodicity for the SP-comet population.  相似文献

We investigate the viability of the Galactic corona model of -ray bursts by calculating the spatial distribution of neutron stars born with high velocities in the Galactic disk, and comparing the resulting brightness and angular distribution with the BATSE data. We find that the Galactic corona model can reproduce the BATSE peak flux and angular distribution data for neutron star kick velocities 800 km s–1, source turn-on ages 10 Myrs, and sampling depths 100 kpc d max 400 kpc.  相似文献

Type III radio bursts observed at kilometric wavelengths ( 0.35 MHz) by the OGO-5 spacecraft are compared with > 45 keV solar electron events observed near 1 AU by the IMP-5 and Explorer 35 spacecraft for the period March 1968–November 1969.Fifty-six distinct type III bursts extending to 0.35 MHz ( 50 R equivalent height above the photosphere) were observed above the threshold of the OGO-5 detector; all but two were associated with solar flares. Twenty-six of the bursts were followed 40 min later by > 45 keV solar electron events observed at 1 AU. All of these 26 bursts were identified with flares located west of W 09 solar longitude. Of the bursts not associated with electron events only three were identified with flares west of W 09, 18 were located east of W 09 and 7 occurred during times when electron events would be obscured by high background particle fluxes. Thus almost all type III bursts from the western half of the solar disk observed by OGO-5 above a detection flux density threshold of the order of 10–13 Wm–2 Hz–1 at 0.35 MHz are followed by > 45 keV electrons at 1 AU with a maximum flux of 10 cm–2 s–1 ster–1. If particle propagation effects are taken into account it is possible to account for lack of electron events with the type III bursts from flares east of the central meridian. We conclude that streams of 10–100 keV electrons are the exciting agent for type III bursts and that these same electrons escape into the interplanetary medium where they are observed at 1 AU. The total number of > 45 keV electrons emitted in association with a strong kilometer wavelength type III burst is estimated to be 5 × 1032.  相似文献

Cosmic gamma-ray burst spectroscopy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A review is given of the gamma-ray burst energy spectrum measurements on Venera 11 and Venera 12 space probes. The gamma burst continuum approximates in shape thermal brems-strahlung emission of a hot plasma. The radiation temperature varies over a broad range, 50–1000 keV, for different events. Spectra of many bursts contain cyclotron absorption and/or redshifted annihilation lines. Strong variability is typically observed in both continuum and line spectra. These spectral data provide convincing evidence for the gamma-ray bursts being generated by neutron stars with superstrong magnetic fields 1012–1013 G.  相似文献

A sea-level cosmic ray burst detector was in operation at the time of occurrence of 16 Vela bursts, between 1970 and 1973. No events were seen. Upper limits for primary -rays of 1011 eV or higher were set at 10–29 erg cm–2 Hz–1.Paper presented at the COSPAR Symposium on Fast Transients in X- and Gamma-Rays, held at Varna, Bulgaria, 29–31 May, 1975.  相似文献

Observations of 85 gamma bursts by the KONUS instruments on the Venera 11 and Venera 12 spacecraft in the period September 1978 to May 1979 inclusive have provided proof of a galactic localization of the gamma-burst sources based on an analysis of the logN-logS plot and the revealed anisotropy in the angular distribution of sources over the celestial sphere. Evaluation of the energy released in the sources yields 1040–1041 erg. There apparently exist several types of gamma bursts differing in time profile, duration and shape of their energy spectrum. In some cases, extensive evolution of the energy spectrum is observed during a burst. The discovery of a flaring X-ray pulsar in Dorado has provided the first observational evidence for a connection of gamma bursts with neutron stars. Repeated short bursts from this source have revealed for the first time the recurrent features of this phenomenon. Repeated bursts have been detected from one more source in the short burst class. The data obtained thus far impose a number of restrictions on the applicability of many theoretical suggestions concerning the nature of the gamma bursts. The most plausible model for the gamma-burst source appears to be a binary with a neutron star with strongly non-stationary accretion involving, possibly, non-stationary thermonuclear fusion of matter falling onto the surface of a degenerate star.Paper presented at the Symposium on Cosmic Gamma-Ray Bursts, held at Toulouse, France, 26–29 November, 1979.  相似文献

Energetic particle (0.1 to 100 MeV protons) acceleration is studied by using high resolution interplanetary magnetic field and plasma measurements at 1 AU (HEOS-2) and at 5 AU (Pioneer 10). Energy changes of a particle population are followed by computing test particle trajectories and the energy changes through the particle interaction with the time varying magnetic field. The results show that considerable particle acceleration takes place throughout the interplanetary medium, both in the corotating interaction regions (CIR) (5 AU), and in quiet regions (1 AU). Although shocks may contribute to acceleration we suggest statistical acceleration within the CIRs is sufficient to explain most energetic particle observations (e.g., McDonaldet al., 1975; Barnes and Simpson, 1976).The first and second order statistical acceleration coefficients which include transit time damping and Alfvén resonance interactions, are found to be well represented byD T 8.5×10–6 T 0.5 MeV s–1 andD TT 4×10–6 T 1.5 MeV2 s–1 at 5 AU.By comparison, Fisk's estimates (1976), based on quasi-linear theory for transit-time damping, gaveD TT 5×10–7 T MeV2 s–1 at 1 AU.  相似文献

The isotropic cumulative burst rate of 7030 –6000 +10000 yr–1 at a fluence ofS=8.47×10–9 erg–1 cm–2 determined by Beurleet al. from their observation of two gamma-ray bursts is shown to be statistically improbable. The difficulty arises from their assumption that the power law cumulative distribution function index equals one. Their observations are rediscussed and an upper limit ofN(>8.47×10–9 erg cm–2)<5400 yr–1 is proposed.  相似文献

The assumption that the very low albedo determined for Halley's comet is typical of all short period comets, taken together with the assumption that the average sizes of long and short period comets are approximately equal, leads to an increase in the total mass of comets in the solar system by almost two orders of magnitude. If gravitational ejection from the Uranus - Neptune zone during the later phases of planet formation is indeed responsible for the classical Oort cloud between 104–1015 AU, then the mass of comets in this transplanetary region during cosmogonie times has to exceed the combined masses of Uranus and Neptune by over an order of magnitude. Furthermore, if the recent arguments for as many as 1014 comets in an inner Oort cloud between ~40– 104AU are valid, then the total mass of comets in the solar system approaches 2% of a solar mass.  相似文献

By processing 494 observations of Comet Harrington–Abell, we obtained a unified system of elements that includes its turn around the Sun during which it closely approached Jupiter to a minimum distance of 0.037 AU in 1974. A study of the cometary orbit before and after the approach showed that, probably, at the approach of the comet to Jupiter, apart from the well-known gravitational perturbations, its motion was affected by an additional force. An improvement of the cometary orbit by assuming that an additional acceleration inversely proportional to the square of the distance to Jupiter exists in its motion yielded the following values: (4.57 ± 0.42) × 10–10 and (–7.20 ± 0.42) × 10–10 AU day–2 for the radial and transversal acceleration components, respectively. As a plausible explanation of the changes in the cometary orbit, we additionally considered a model based on the hypothesis of partial disintegration of the cometary nucleus. The parameter that characterizes the instant displacement of the center of inertia along the jovicentric radius vector was estimated to be –1.83 ± 0.75 km. Based on a unified numerical theory of cometary motion, we determined the nongravitational parameters using Marsden's model for two periods: A 1 = (11.68 ± 1.74) × 10–10 AU day–2, A 2 = (0.53 ± 0.0357) × 10–10 AU day–2 for 1975–1999 and A 1 = (5.92 ± 5.86) × 10–10 AU day–2, A 2 = (0.08 ± 0.028) × 10–10 AU day–2 for 1955–1969, under the assumption that the nongravitational acceleration changed at the approach of the comet to Jupiter.  相似文献

We consider a model of the in situ Oort cloud which is isotropic with a random distrihution of perihelia directions and angular momenta. The energy distribution adopted has a continuous range of values appropriate for long-period (>200 yr) comets. Only the tidal torque of the Galaxy is included as a perturbation of comet orbits and it is approximated to be that due to a quasi-steady state distribution of matter with disk-like symmetry. The time evolution of all orbital elements can be analytically obtained for this case. In particular, the change in the perihelion distance per orbit and its dependence on other orbital elements is readily found. We further make the assumption that a comet whose perihelion distance was beyond 15 AU during its last passage through the Solar System would have orbit parameters that are essentially unchanged by planetary perturbations. Conversely, if the prior passage was inside 15 AU we assume that planetary perturbations would have removed the comet from the in situ energy distribution accessible by the galactic tide. Comets which had their perihelia changed from beyond 15 AU to within 5 AU in a single orbit are taken to be observable. We are able to track the evolution of 106 comets as they are made observable by the galactic tidal touque. Detailed results are obtained for the predicted distribution of new (0 < 1/ < 10–4 AU–1) comets. Further, correlations between orbital elements can be studied. We present predictions of observed distributions and compare them with the random in situ results as well as with the actual observed distributions of class I comets. The predictions are in reasonable agreement with actual observations and, in many cases, are significantly different from random when perihelia directions are separated into galactic northern and southern hemispheres. However the well-known asymmetry in the north-south populations of perihelia remains to be explained. Such an asymmetry is consistent with the dominance of tidal torques today if a major stochastic event produced it in the past since tidal torques are unable to cause the migration of perihelia across the latitude barriers ±26°.6 in the disk model.  相似文献

Maximum possible acceleration due to out-gassing from cometary nuclei is calculated for H2O and CO(N2) molecules. It is found that the maximum excess velocity at great distance is 0.18 km s–1 so that excess velocities less than this value are compatible with the non-gravitational acceleration due to non-symmetric out-gassing. On the other hand, Comet 1975q and comet 1955V have excess velocities 0.81 and 0.80 km s–1 respectively. These comets may be regarded as the candidates for possible interstellar comets.  相似文献

Comet Hale-Bopp is, without doubt, one of the most important objects for cometary science which has ever been observed. The light curve is well-observed from a heliocentric distance 7.2 AU and some information is available at distances as great as 17 AU. This allows the photometric evolution of the comet to be studied as different volatiles dominate the activity. Three different phases of activity are seen as the heliocentric distance reduces during 1996: the initial phase of very fast brightening, characterized by a r –5 law; a standstill in the light curve when the brightening law reduced to r –1, which coincides with the initiation of water sublimation at r ~ 4 AU; and a further phase of more rapid brightening with an r –3.5 law, similar to the mean for comets classed as fairly new, which initiated at r ~ 4 AU.  相似文献

We estimated the gravitational influence of giant molecular clouds passing near the Solar system on the orbital evolution of Oort cloud comets. We performed a comparative analysis of the accuracies of the following two methods of allowance for the perturbations from giant molecular clouds: the impulse approximation and numerical integration. The impulse approximation yields fairly accurate estimates of the change in the energy of Oort cloud comets and the probability of their ejection under the influence of a molecular cloud if the path of the Solar system does not cross its boundary and if the molecular cloud may be treated as a point perturbing mass. The comet survival probability in the Oort cloud depends significantly on the internal structure of the perturbing molecular cloud and the impact parameter of the encounter. The most massive injection of comets into the planetary region and their ejection from the Oort cloud take place if the Solar system passes through a giant molecular cloud composed of several high-mass condensations. In this case, most of the comets injected into the planetary region were initially comets of the inner Oort cloud (a 10–4 AU) with high orbital eccentricities.  相似文献

The distribution of pulsars in the wide range of observed luminosities has been obtained. It is shown that the function of luminosity (FL) within 3×1026L2×1030 erg s–1 conforms to the power law dN/dLc 1 L , where =1.76±0.06. ForL3×1026 erg s–1, FL changes its inclination and may be approximated as , where 1 = 0.7±0.2. On the basis of statistical selection, including all pulsars withL>3×1028 erg s–1, the distribution of pulsars has been investigated as a function of the distance to the centreR and galactic planeZ.The obtained laws of the radial andZ-distribution of pulsars and galactic supernova remnants and also the radial distribution of types I and II supernovae in the models Sb and Sc support the hypothesis of their origin from the objects of the flat subsystem of Population I. Since there are some arguments in favour of a possible connection between supernovae I and the objects of the intermediate component of the Galaxy, one cannot exclude the possibility of supernovae explosions at the end of the evolution of stars with masses of 1.5–2M . It is also shown that pulsars and supernovae are evidently objects that are connected genetically, and, within the limits of statistical error, they have a similar birth-rate.The empirical law of the evolution of a pulsar's luminosity as a function of its true age has been obtained, according to whichL=c 2 t , wherec 2=(3.69±3.4)×1035, =1.32±0.11.  相似文献

We report on eight X-ray bursts detected by ASTRON from the Rapid Burster (RB) on 13 and 28 April and 16 August, 1983. Six of them (trailing bursts), with durations of 1.5–2 min, rise times of 5–10 s and intervals of 1–1.5 hours, exhibit spectral softening during the burst decay and may be related to the type I bursts. Two of the bursts (triangle bursts) observed on 28 April at interval of 28 min with much longer rise times (30–50 s) and longer durations (3 min), do not show distinct spectral softening. Persistent flux from RB on 16 August was estimated asF p(2.0–2.4)×10–9 erg cm–2 s–1. Spectral evolution of two trailing bursts was investigated by fitting their spectra in consecutive time intervals with the blackbody (BB), isothermal scattering photosphere (SP) and thermal bremsstrahlung (TB) models. Around the burst maxima the SP model fits the data best whereas in the burst tails the TB model is generally better. The BB model is worse than at least one of the two others. Interpretation of the burst spectra in terms of the BB radiation leads to improbably small neutron star mass and radius (M<0.86M ,R NS<5 km) if the peak luminosity does not exceed the Eddington limit. Interpretation of the spectra around the burst maxima (3–15 s from the burst onset) in terms of an isothermal SP yields reasonable constraints onM,R NS, and distanceD. For instance, for the hydrogen photosphere we obtainedM=(1.0–2.1)M R NS=(7.1–16.4) km ifD=11 kpc. If one postulatesM=1.4M , thenD=(8.5–13) kpc for hydrogen photosphere; if, besides,D=11 kpc, thenR NS=(8.1–13.3) km. It follows also from the SP-interpretation that the photosphere radius may increase up to 20–30 km in maxima of the trailing bursts when the luminosity becomes close to the Eddington luminosity.  相似文献

A self-consistent multi-fluid solution of the dynamical and thermal structure of an H2O-dominated, two-phase dusty-gas cometary atmosphere has been obtained by solving the simultaneous set of differential equations representing conservation of number density, momentum and energy, together with the transfer of solar radiation in streams responsible for the major photolytic processes and the heating of the nucleus. The validity of this model, as in the earlier single-fluid ones, is restricted to the collision-dominated region where all the heavy species (ions and neutrals) are assumed to achieve a common temperature and velocity. However, recognizing that the photo-produced hydrogen is rather inefficient in exchanging energy with the heavier species we treat the hydrogen separately: it is assumed to be composed of a thermalized component (the second fluid) and a pre-thermal component. The present model, which is transonic due to the presence of the dust in the inner coma, causes the heavy species to expand subsonically from the nucleus and to smoothly traverse the sonic point within about 45 m of the nucleus, although the dust-gas coupling persists to about 50 km. While the temperature of the heavy species goes through a strong inversion within about 100 km from the nucleus, due to the effects of IR cooling and expansion, it increases to about 300–400 K in the outermost part of the collision-dominated coma due to UV photolytic heating. These temperatures are smaller by a factor of 2–3 from the predictions of the earlier single-fluid models, which assumed instant thermalization of the photo-produced hydrogen. While the velocities of the heavy species and the thermal hydrogen increase to, respectively, 1.1 km s–1 and 1.6 km s–1 in the outer (collisional) coma, the velocity of the pre-thermal component reaches about 15 km s–1. This latter value is consistent with Ly- observations of a number of comets, which implies a fast (20 km s–1) hydrogen component in the outer coma. The boundary of the exosphere, where the non-thermal hydrogen dominates, is predicted to be around 1.5×104 km from the nucleus. The calculations are for a comet of radius 2.5 km with a dust/gas ratio of 1, at a heliocentric distance of 1 AU.  相似文献

In the region of the formation of weak and medium-strong lines, the microturbulence increases with height (V ver=0.7–0.9 km s-1, V hor= 1.1–1.5 km s-1), the macroturbulence decreases (V ver=1.6–1.4 km s-1, V hor= 2.4–1.5 km s-1), and the total velocity field (vertical component) is depth-independent (1.7 km s-1). The empirical damping constants for Fe, Ti, Cr, Ni lines are equal 1.36, 1.76, 1.66, 1.66, respectively. The correlation length (the Kubo-Anderson process has been used) in the solar photosphere is 520–550 km.  相似文献

This study analyzes the evolution of 2 × 105 orbits with initial parameters corresponding to the orbits of comets of the Oort cloud under the action of planetary, galactic, and stellar perturbations over 2 × 109 years. The dynamical evolution of comets of the outer (orbital semimajor axes a > 104 AU) and inner (5 × 103 < a (AU) < 104) parts of the comet cloud is analyzed separately. The estimates of the flux of “new” and long-period comets for all perihelion distances q in the planetary region are reported. The flux of comets with a > 104 AU in the interval 15 AU < q < 31 AU is several times higher than the flux of comets in the region q < 15 AU. We point out the increased concentration of the perihelia of orbits of comets from the outer cloud, which have passed several times through the planetary system, in the Saturn-Uranus region. The maxima in the distribution of the perihelia of the orbits of comets of the inner Oort cloud are located in the Uranus-Neptune region. “New” comets moving in orbits with a < 2 × 104 AU and arriving at the outside of the planetary system (q > 25 AU) subsequently have a greater number of returns to the region q < 35 AU. The perihelia of the orbits of these comets gradually drift toward the interior of the Solar System and accumulate beyond the orbit of Saturn. The distribution of the perihelia of long-period comets beyond the orbit of Saturn exhibits a peak. We discuss the problem of replenishing the outer Oort cloud by comets from the inner part and their subsequent dynamical evolution. The annual rate of passages of comets of the inner cloud, which replenish the outer cloud, in the region q < 1 AU in orbits with a > 104 AU (~ 5.0 × 10?14 yr?1) is one order of magnitude lower than the rate of passage of comets from the outer Oort cloud (~ 9.1 × 10?13 yr?1).  相似文献
