A study was undertaken to determine the chronology, petrogenesis and relationships among the shergottites, Shergotty and Zagami and the unique achondrite ALHA77005. These meteorites are the product of a variety of complex processes.Petrogenesis: Chondrite-normalized abundance patterns of Shergotty and Zagami are very similar and show pronounced depletions of both the light REE (La-Nd) and heavy REE (Dy-Lu) relative to Sm-Gd. These characteristic depletions are even more pronounced for ALHA77005. The light REE depletion is qualitatively consistent with the presence of cumulus pyroxene and/or olivine in these meteorites, but trace element models show that the parental magmas of all three meteorites were probably also light REE depleted. Both trace element model calculations and combined Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd isotopic systematics show that the meteorites could not have been co-magmatic nor can ALHA77005 be representative of the source material of the shergottites. Light REE depletion of the parental magmas also implies light REE depletion of the source material. The Sm-Nd systematics of the shergottites require a time-averaged sub-chondritic (light REE enriched) Sm-Nd ratio since 4.6 AE ago. The Sm-Nd systematics of ALHA77005 permit a time-averaged super-chondritic (light REE depleted) Sm/Nd ratio if its crystallization age is less than TICE = 0.72 AE.Chronology. Rb-Sr internal isochrons for all three meteorites and a Sm-Nd internal isochron for Zagami are concordant at ~ 180 Myr. 39Ar-40Ar plateau ages of Shergotty and Zagami maskelynite are ~250–260 Myr. These ages apparently reflect resetting of these isotopic systems by shock metamorphism which converted the feldspar to maskelynite. The concordance of these ages suggests a single shock event during which the meteorites were in close physical proximity. The time of this event is most precisely given by the Rb-Sr age of 180 ± 4 Myr for Zagami. The crystallization ages of the meteorites were not precisely determined. Extreme upper limits are determined by Sm-Nd model ages relative to an eucrite initial 143Nd144Nd = 0.505835 at 4.6 AE ago. These model ages for Shergotty, Zagami and ALHA77005 are 3600, 3500 and 2850 Myr, respectively. The Sm-Nd whole rock age of 1340 ± 60 Myr for the three meteorites gives the crystallization age if the Sm/Nd ratios of the precursor materials were always the same. We consider this 1340 Myr age as a “best estimate” upper limit. “Best estimate” lower limits for Shergotty and Zagami are taken from the average 39Ar-40Ar ages of 1200 and 900 Myr of pyroxene separates. The average 39Ar-40Ar age of a whole rock sample of ALHA77005 was 1600 Myr and can be partitioned between a low temperature (feldspar) phase and a high temperature (olivine + pyroxene + inclusions) “phase”. The average apparent 39Ar-40Ar age of the low temperature phase is ~1050 Myr, which is chosen as the “best estimate” lower limit to the age. The crystallization ages of Shergotty, Zagami and ALHA77005 probably lie within the ranges of 1200–1300, 900–1300 and 1000–1300 Myr, respectively. The Rb-Sr whole rock age of 4400 ± 400 Myr and single-stage BABI model ages of ~4800–5100 Myr are interpreted as reflecting differentiation of the parent body at ~4600 Myr ago.The complex geochemical and isotopic evolution recorded by these meteorites suggests a geologically active parent body capable of sustaining melting at two or more epochs in its history.  相似文献

21Ne cosmic-ray exposure ages have been calculated from literature data for 201 H, 203 L and 38 LL chondrites, corrected for shielding differences when possible. The distributions of exposure ages again show the familiar peaks at 4.5 and 20 Myr for the H's, but no outstanding events for the L's and LL's. If the L-chondrite distribution is interpreted as a series of discrete events, then at least 6 peaks between 1 and 35 Myr are needed to model it. The observations, that every petrologic type occurs in every large peak and that even the higher petrologic types contain solar wind gases, suggest that the parent bodies have been fragmented and reassembled into a megabreccia. For the H chondrites, both large and small peaks contain about 15% solar-gas bearing meteorites, which could mean that surface material has been mixed to depths represented by the largest event, on the order of a kilometer. In contrast, only 3% of the L's contain solar wind, which may be related to breakup of their parent planet. Those L's with especially low radiogenic He (U,Th-He ages < 1 AE) tend to have low exposure ages: their distribution may be biased by a subgroup that had orbits coupling short capture lifetimes with significant solar heating.  相似文献

A method for selective annealing of cosmic-ray tracks has been developed, permitting determination of fission-track ages in the presence of a large background of cosmic-ray tracks. The mesosiderite Bondoc contains 41 fission tracks/cm2, of which about 75% are due to neutron-induced fission of U235 during cosmic-ray exposure. Its net fission-track age is 140 ± 40 Myr, nearly identical to its cosmic-ray exposure age of 150 Myr. The mesosiderite Mincy has a fission-track age of 1500 ± 400 Myr.Nakhla (nakhlite) contains an excess of apparent fission tracks, which may be either genuine fission tracks from Pu244 or etch pits mimicking fission tracks in length, thermal stability, random orientation, and other characteristics. On the assumption that they are fission tracks, the Pu244/U238 ratio at the onset of track retention in Nakhla was (3.1 ± 1.3) × 10?3, nearly an order of magnitude lower than the initial solar system ratio. This may reflect a chemical fractionation of Pu and U, or a late impact or magmatic event. Different minerals of the Washougal howardite have different Pu244/U238 ratios, from (24 ± 7) × 10?3 to (2.3 ± 0.7) × 10?3. This may imply a succession of impacts over a period of time. Additionally, Pu and U may have been chemically fractionated from each other in this meteorite.Shocked meteorites show no consistent pattern in the retentivity of fission tracks and of fissiogenic or radiogenic noble gases. Some meteorites, e.g. Bondoc, Serra de Magé, and Mincy, retain gases more completely than tracks; others, e.g. Nakhla and Allende, retain them less completely.Uranium was determined in feldspar and/or pyroxene from 19 Ca-rich achondrites and mesosiderites. For most, only upper limits of 0.01–0.03 ppb were obtained. Apparently the uranium in these meteorites resides almost exclusively in minor phases, as in terrestrial and lunar rocks.  相似文献

Cosmogenic radionuclides with distinctive half-lives from chondritic falls were used as natural detectors of galactic cosmic rays (GCR). A unique series of uniform data was obtained for variations in the integral gradients of GCR with a rigidity of R > 0.5 GV in 1955–2000 on heliocentric distances of 1.5–3.3 AU and heliographic latitudes between 23° S and 16° N. Correlation analysis was performed for the variations in GCR gradients and variations in solar activity (number of sunspots, SS, and intensity of the green coronal line, GCL), the intensity of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), and the inclination of the heliospheric current sheet (HCS). Distribution and variations of GCR were analyzed in 11-year solar cycles and during a change in 22-year magnetic cycles. The detected dependencies of GCR gradients on the intensity of IMF and HCS inclination provided insight into the differences in the processes of structural transformation of IMF during changes between various phases of solar and magnetic cycles. The investigated relationships lead to the conclusion that a change of secular solar cycles occurred during solar cycle 20; moreover, there is probably still an increase in the 600-year solar cycle, which can be among the major reasons for the observed global warming.  相似文献

Silicate and troilite from IAB iron meteorites were dated by the 40Ar-39Ar technique. Silicate from four IAB meteorites gave well-defined apparent-age plateaus which accounted for 71–99% of the released 39Ar. At low temperatures, only Copiapo showed appreciable loss of 40Ar, while Mundrabilla and Woodbine released excess 40Ar. The plateau ages are: 4.50 Byr for Copiapo, 4.57 Byr for Mundrabilla, 4.57 Byr for Woodbine, 4.54 Byr for unetched Pitts, and 4.57 Byr for etched Pitts; the 1σ error in each case is ± 0.03 Byr. A poorly-defined age plateau for Landes gives an age of 4.48 Byr, while the total K-Ar age (4.55 Byr) is significantly higher. The average (40Ar/36Ar)trapped ratio for all silicate samples is 0.4 ± 0.4.Simple and undisturbed K-Ar systems are rare for meteorites, yet it appears to be a common feature for IAB silicates. In addition, plateau ages of IAB silicates are as old or older than the mean age of unshocked chondrites (4.47 Byr).Troilite samples yielded complex patterns which were evaluated via 40Ar/36Ar vs 39Ar/36Ar plots. Data for Pitts troilite are consistent with silicate and troilite retaining Ar at about the same time initially, but then 4.25 Byr ago nearly all the Ar in troilite was redistributed. The 700–1000°C points for Mundrabilla troilite define a line which gives an age of 6.2 Byr and (40Ar/36Ar)trapped = 42. This line may be an artifact, perhaps produced by homogenization of Ar and K.Approximate estimates of cosmic-ray exposure ages are 240 Myr for Landes, 130 Myr for Copiapo, 190 Myr for Woodbine, 170 Myr for Mundrabilla troilite, and 60 Myr for Pitts troilite. The I-Xe study of these same samples revealed a good correlation between well-defined I-Xe ages of silicates and Ni contents of metal (Niemeyer, 1979). The poorer resolution of the 40Ar-39Ar technique hampers a similar evaluation; nevertheless, plateau ages of the silicates suggest a systematic trend with Ni contents.  相似文献

The IAB iron meteorites may be related to the chondrites: siderophile elements in the metal matrix have chondritic abundances, and the abundant silicate inclusions are chondritic both in mineralogy and in chemical composition. Silicate and troilite (FeS) from IAB irons were analyzed by the I-Xe technique. Four IAB silicate samples gave well-defined I-Xe ages [in millions of years relative to Bjurböle; the monitor error (± 2.5 Myr) is not included]: ?3.7 ± 0.3 for Woodbine, ?0.7 ± 0. 6 for Mundrabilla, +1.4 ± 0.7 for Copiapo, and +2.6 ± 0.6 for Landes. The (129Xe/132Xe)trapped ratios are consistent with previous values for chondrites, with the exception of Landes which has an extraordinary trapped ratio of 3.5 ± 0.2. Both analyses of silicate from Pitts gave anomalous I-Xe patterns.Troilite samples were also analyzed: Pitts troilite gave a complex I-Xe pattern, which suggests an age of +17 Myr; Mundrabilla troilite defined a good I-Xe correlation, which after correction for neutron capture on 128Te gave an age of ?10.8 ± 0.7 Myr. Thus, surprisingly, low-melting troilite substantially predates high-melting silicate in Mundrabilla.Abundances of Ga, Ge, and Ni in metal from these meteorites are correlated with I-Xe ages of the silicate; meteorites with older silicates have greater Ni contents. No model easily accounts for this result as well as other properties of IAB irons; nevertheless, these results, taken at face value, overall favor a nebular formation model (e.g. Wasson, 1970, Icarus 12, 407–423). The great age of troilite from Mundrabilla suggests that this troilite formed in a different nebular region from the silicate and metal, and was later mechanically mixed with these other phases. The correlation between the trace elements in the metal and the I-Xe ages of the silicate provides one of the first known instances in which another well-defined meteoritic property correlates with I-Xe ages. In addition, almost all the 129Xe in Mundrabilla silicate (etched in acid) was correlated with 128Xe. These two results further support the validity of the I-Xe dating method.  相似文献

A new ‘clean’ spectral technique has been applied, for the first time, to analyse a record of long-term sea-level fluctuation during the last 200 million year (Myr). The technique is based on a one dimensional complex deconvolution algorithm and removes the effects of the data sampling as well as the artifacts arising from the choice of data window. The analysis reveals a dominant periodicity of 33 Myr in the sea-level variations. This periodicity compares well with the known half-period of the Sun's oscillation perpendicular to the galactic plane. Interestingly, a 33 Myr periodicity can also be correlated with the reported mass extinction cycles and other geological periodicities. The results suggest galactic forcing as a possible driving mechanism for quasi-periodic terrestrial processes.  相似文献

The spottedness parameters S (the fraction of the visible surface of the star occupied by spots) characterizing the activity of 674 stars in the Beehive Cluster (age 650 Myr) are estimated, together with variations of this parameter as a function of the rotation period, Rossby number Ro and other characteristics of the stars. The activity of the stars in this cluster is lower than the activity of stars in the younger Pleiades (125 Myr). The average S value for the Beehive Cluster stars is 0.014, while Pleiades stars have the much higher average value 0.052. The activity parameters of 61 solar-type stars in the Beehive Cluster, similar Hyades stars (of about the same age), and stars in the younger Pleiades are compared. The average S value of such objects in the Beehive Cluster is 0.014± 0.008, nearly coincident with the estimate obtained for solar-type Hyades stars. The rotation periods of these objects are 9.1 ± 3.4 day, on average, in agreement with the average rotation period of the Hyades stars (8.6 d ). Stars with periods exceeding 3–4 d are more numerous in the Beehive Cluster than in the Pleiades, and their periods have a larger range, 3–30 d . The characteristic dependence with a kink at Ro (saturation) = 0.13 is not observed in the S–Rossby number diagram for the Beehive and Hyades stars, only a clump of objects with Rossby numbers Ro > 0.7. The spottedness data for the Beehive Cluster and Hyades stars are in good agreement with the S values for dwarfs with ages of 600–700 Myr. This provides evidence for the reliability of the results of gyrochronological calibrations. The data for the Beehive and Pleiades stars are used to analyze variations in the spot-forming activity for a large number of stars of the same age that are members of a single cluster. A joint consideration of the data for two clusters can be used to draw conclusions about the time evolution of the activity of stars of different masses (over a time interval of the order of 500 Myr).  相似文献

The results of a fission track study of uranium-rich merrillite crystals in a number of mesosiderites are clearly incompatible with cooling rates as low as ~ 0.1°C/Myr which have previously been inferred for these meteorites. Classical metallographic techniques thus appear to give erroneous results when applied to this type of meteorites. There appears to be no reason to advocate exotic scenarios to explain the thermal history of mesosiderites.  相似文献

We review the crystallization of the iron meteorite chemical groups, the thermal history of the irons as revealed by the metallographic cooling rates, the ages of the iron meteorites and their relationships with other meteorite types, and the formation of the iron meteorite parent bodies. Within most iron meteorite groups, chemical trends are broadly consistent with fractional crystallization, implying that each group formed from a single molten metallic pool or core. However, these pools or cores differed considerably in their S concentrations, which affect partition coefficients and crystallization conditions significantly. The silicate-bearing iron meteorite groups, IAB and IIE, have textures and poorly defined elemental trends suggesting that impacts mixed molten metal and silicates and that neither group formed from a single isolated metallic melt. Advances in the understanding of the generation of the Widmanstätten pattern, and especially the importance of P during the nucleation and growth of kamacite, have led to improved measurements of the cooling rates of iron meteorites. Typical cooling rates from fractionally crystallized iron meteorite groups at 500–700 °C are about 100–10,000 °C/Myr, with total cooling times of 10 Myr or less. The measured cooling rates vary from 60 to 300 °C/Myr for the IIIAB group and 100–6600 °C/Myr for the IVA group. The wide range of cooling rates for IVA irons and their inverse correlation with bulk Ni concentration show that they crystallized and cooled not in a mantled core but in a large metallic body of radius 150±50 km with scarcely any silicate insulation. This body may have formed in a grazing protoplanetary impact. The fractionally crystallized groups, according to Hf–W isotopic systematics, are derived originally from bodies that accreted and melted to form cores early in the history of the solar system, <1 Myr after CAI formation. The ungrouped irons likely come from at least 50 distinct parent bodies that formed in analogous ways to the fractionally crystallized groups. Contrary to traditional views about their origin, iron meteorites may have been derived originally from bodies as large as 1000 km or more in size. Most iron meteorites come directly or indirectly from bodies that accreted before the chondrites, possibly at 1–2 AU rather than in the asteroid belt. Many of these bodies may have been disrupted by impacts soon after they formed and their fragments were scattered into the asteroid belt by protoplanets.  相似文献

The 182Hf-182W systematics of meteoritic and planetary samples provide firm constraints on the chronology of the accretion and earliest evolution of asteroids and terrestrial planets and lead to the following succession and duration of events in the earliest solar system. Formation of Ca,Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) at 4568.3 ± 0.7 Ma was followed by the accretion and differentiation of the parent bodies of some magmatic iron meteorites within less than ∼1 Myr. Chondrules from H chondrites formed 1.7 ± 0.7 Myr after CAIs, about contemporaneously with chondrules from L and LL chondrites as shown by their 26Al-26Mg ages. Some magmatism on the parent bodies of angrites, eucrites, and mesosiderites started as soon as ∼3 Myr after CAI formation and may have continued until ∼10 Myr. A similar timescale is obtained for the high-temperature metamorphic evolution of the H chondrite parent body. Thermal modeling combined with these age constraints reveals that the different thermal histories of meteorite parent bodies primarily reflect their initial abundance of 26Al, which is determined by their accretion age. Impact-related processes were important in the subsequent evolution of asteroids but do not appear to have induced large-scale melting. For instance, Hf-W ages for eucrite metals postdate CAI formation by ∼20 Myr and may reflect impact-triggered thermal metamorphism in the crust of the eucrite parent body. Likewise, the Hf-W systematics of some non-magmatic iron meteorites were modified by impact-related processes but the timing of this event(s) remains poorly constrained. The strong fractionation of lithophile Hf from siderophile W during core formation makes the Hf-W system an ideal chronometer for this major differentiation event. However, for larger planets such as the terrestrial planets the calculated Hf-W ages are particularly sensitive to the occurrence of large impacts, the degree to which impactor cores re-equilibrated with the target mantle during large collisions, and changes in the metal-silicate partition coefficients of W due to changing fO2 in differentiating planetary bodies. Calculated core formation ages for Mars range from 0 to 20 Myr after CAI formation and currently cannot distinguish between scenarios where Mars formed by runaway growth and where its formation was more protracted. Tungsten model ages for core formation in Earth range from ∼30 Myr to >100 Myr after CAIs and hence do not provide a unique age for the formation of Earth. However, the identical 182W/184W ratios of the lunar and terrestrial mantles provide powerful evidence that the Moon-forming giant impact and the final stage of Earth’s core formation occurred after extinction of 182Hf (i.e., more than ∼50 Myr after CAIs), unless the Hf/W ratios of the bulk silicate Moon and Earth are identical to within less than ∼10%. Furthermore, the identical 182W/184W of the lunar and terrestrial mantles is difficult to explain unless either the Moon consists predominantly of terrestrial material or the W in the proto-lunar magma disk isotopically equilibrated with the Earth’s mantle.Hafnium-tungsten chronometry also provides constraints on the duration of magma ocean solidification in terrestrial planets. Variations in the 182W/184W ratios of martian meteorites reflect an early differentiation of the martian mantle during the effective lifetime of 182Hf. In contrast, no 182W variations exist in the lunar mantle, demonstrating magma ocean solidification later than ∼60 Myr, in agreement with 147Sm-143Nd ages for ferroan anorthosites. The Moon-forming giant impact most likely erased any evidence of a prior differentiation of Earth’s mantle, consistent with a 146Sm-142Nd age of 50-200 Myr for the earliest differentiation of Earth’s mantle. However, the Hf-W chronology of the formation of Earth’s core and the Moon-forming impact is difficult to reconcile with the preservation of 146Sm-142Nd evidence for an early (<30 Myr after CAIs) differentiation of a chondritic Earth’s mantle. Instead, the combined 182W-142Nd evidence suggests that bulk Earth may have superchondritic Sm/Nd and Hf/W ratios, in which case formation of its core must have terminated more than ∼42 Myr after formation of CAIs, consistent with the Hf-W age for the formation of the Moon.  相似文献

Charged particle tracks were studied in the Angra dos Reis and Moore County meteorites, both of which contain an unexplained excess of He4. A selective annealing method was used to resolve cosmic-ray tracks from fission tracks. It gave the following cosmic-ray and fission-track densities, in units of 106cm?2: Angra dos Reis 1.3–4.4 and 7.8; Moore Co. feldspar 1.9–3.0 and 0.51; Moore Co. pigeonite 2.0–2.9 and 0.078–0.35. The fission-track densities are 10–100 times higher than expected from U238; the excess is probably due to extinct Pu238. The Pu244/U238 ratios at the start of track retention were 0.003 for Angra dos Reis and 0.002–0.03 for Moore Co. No evidence was found for fission tracks attributable to the unknown progenitor of excess He4 in these meteorites; the fission branch of this progenitor comprises less than 10?5 the α-branch. A search for pleochroic halos also gave negative results. The preatmospheric radii of the two meteorites are ≥13 and ≥7cm. According to meteor theory, this implies geocentric velocities of ≥ 19 and ≥ 6 km/sec.The etching behavior of Angra dos Reis augite is highly anomalous, giving rise to spurious angular anisotropies and skewed length distributions. This confirms similar observation by Fleischer et al. (1970) on lunar augite.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Chinese Southwest Tianshan Orogenic Belt is located along the boundary between the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) and the Tarim Block (TB), NW China. It records the convergence of the Tarim Block and the Middle Tianshan, and is, therefore, a crucial region for understanding the Eurasia continental growth and evolution. The Wulagen (geographical name) metasedimentary rocks of the Wuqia area (mainly metamorphic sandstones and mica schists) form one of the metamorphic terranes in the Southwestern Tianshan Orogenic Belt. The geochronology of these rocks is poorly known, which hampers our understanding of the tectonic evolution of the belt. We analyzed 517 zircon grains for detrital zircon U–Pb dating and 93 zircon grains for in situ Lu–Hf isotopic compositions from the Wulagen metasedimentary rocks. The analyzed zircon grains yield Neoarchean to late Paleozoic U–Pb ages with major age peaks at ~2543 Ma, 1814 Ma, 830 Ma, 460 Ma, and the youngest cluster of zircon (magmatogene) ages is 395 Ma. The zircon U–Pb data show that the late Paleozoic (Early Devonian) is the maximum depositional age of the Wulagen metasedimentary rocks, rather than the previously considered Precambrian period. The zircons with Paleozoic ages yield εHf(t) values of ?22.0 to +11.3 and two-stage model ages (TDM2) of 3.95 to 1.30 Ga, suggesting that the parental magmas were formed from partial melting of pre-existing crustal rocks. Our zircon U–Pb geochronology and Hf isotopic data indicate the major source regions for the Wulagen metasedimentary rocks was the Kyrgyzstan North Tianshan. The zircon age population of 600–400 Ma (peak at ~460 Ma) has negative εHf(t) values (?15.0 to ?0.6) and Mesoproterozoic two-stage model ages, suggesting that the early Paleozoic magmatism resulted mainly from the melting of ancient crust, which played an important role in crustal evolution in the southern CAOB.  相似文献

We determined the He, Ne, and Ar isotopic abundances in the four acapulcoites Dhofar (DHO) 125, DHO 290, DHO 312, and Graves Nunataks 98028, the metal-rich diogenite Northwest Africa (NWA) 1982, and a unique achondrite, NWA 1058, that resembles the acapulcoites in its chemical composition. The noble gases in these meteorites consist of three components: trapped gases, cosmic-ray produced nuclides, and nuclides produced by K, Th, and U decay. The four acapulcoites yield cosmic-ray exposure (CRE) ages in the range of 5.0-5.7 Ma and confirm earlier conclusions concerning break-up of all acapulcoites from a common S-type parent asteroid, possibly in three events 4.9, 5.9, and 14.8 Ma ago. We also discuss the other characteristics (mineralogy, chemistry, formation ages, and oxygen and trapped noble gas isotopes) of all other acapulcoites and their relatives, the lodranites. We propose that the acapulcoite/lodranite parent asteroid had a shell structure similar to that of the H chondrites: The less metamorphosed acapulcoites correspond to the H3 and H4 chondrites and originate from the exterior layers, whereas the more severely metamorphosed lodranites, similar to the H5 and H6 chondrites, represent the inner regions of their parent body. Ungrouped achondrite NWA 1982, probably a diogenite, shows a CRE age of 18.9 ± 2.0 Ma that falls on the major exposure age cluster of the diogenites. The unique achondrite NWA 1058 differs in cosmic-ray exposure age (38.9 ± 4.0 Ma) and in oxygen-isotopic composition from the acapulcoites and lodranites and is probably a winonaite.  相似文献

The 182Hf-182W isotopic systematics of Ca-Al-rich inclusions (CAIs), metal-rich chondrites, and iron meteorites were investigated to constrain the relative timing of accretion of their parent asteroids. A regression of the Hf-W data for two bulk CAIs, various fragments of a single CAI, and carbonaceous chondrites constrains the 182Hf/180Hf and εW at the time of CAI formation to (1.07 ± 0.10) × 10−4 and −3.47 ± 0.20, respectively. All magmatic iron meteorites examined here have initial εW values that are similar to or slightly lower than the initial value of CAIs. These low εW values may in part reflect 182W-burnout caused by the prolonged cosmic ray exposure of iron meteorites, but this effect is estimated to be less than ∼0.3 ε units for an exposure age of 600 Ma. The W isotope data, after correction for cosmic ray induced effects, indicate that core formation in the parent asteroids of the magmatic iron meteorites occurred less than ∼1.5 Myr after formation of CAIs. The nonmagmatic IAB-IIICD irons and the metal-rich CB chondrites have more radiogenic W isotope compositions, indicating formation several Myr after the oldest metal cores had segregated in some asteroids.Chondrule formation ∼2-5 Myr after CAIs, as constrained by published Pb-Pb and Al-Mg ages, postdates core formation in planetesimals, and indicates that chondrites do not represent the precursor material from which asteroids accreted and then differentiated. Chondrites instead derive from asteroids that accreted late, either farther from the Sun than the parent bodies of magmatic iron meteorites or by reaccretion of debris produced during collisional disruption of older asteroids. Alternatively, chondrites may represent material from the outermost layers of differentiated asteroids. The early thermal and chemical evolution of asteroids appears to be controlled by the decay of 26Al, which was sufficiently abundant (initial 26Al/27Al >1.4 × 10−5) to rapidly melt early-formed planetesimals but could not raise the temperatures in the late-formed chondrite parent asteroids high enough to cause differentiation. The preservation of the primitive appearance of chondrites thus at least partially reflects their late formation rather than their early and primitive origin.  相似文献

The location of the suture between the Yangtze craton and the Cathaysia block is uncertain in the west. Three proposed locations for the western segment of the suture all go through Guangxi but are up to ~150 km apart. Inherited zircon crystals from the Darongshan Permian S‐type granitoid plutons, which are derived from the lower crust and occur north of the southernmost location for the suture, yield U–Pb ages with a major peak at ~960 Ma. The εHf (t) values of the inherited zircons with ages around the major peak vary from +6.4 to ?23.4. The age distribution and Hf isotope variations of the inherited zircons are remarkably similar to those of Precambrian detrital zircon crystals from the western Cathaysia block but strikingly different from those of Precambrian detrital zircon crystals from the Yangtze craton. These results indicate that the western part of the suture is situated to the north of the Darongshan granitoid belt.  相似文献

40Ar/39Ar geochronological data on hornblende, biotite and K-feldspar provide constraints on the cooling path experienced by a high-grade metamorphic complex from the Mühlig–Hofmannfjella and Filchnerfjella (6–8°E), central Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica, during the late Neoproterozoic-early Palaeozoic Pan–African orogeny. Hornblende ages yield c. 481 Ma, biotite ages range from c. 466 Ma to c. 435 Ma, whereas K-feldspar ages of the gneisses are c. 437 Ma. The 40Ar/39Ar data suggest initial cooling at a rate of ~10 °C/Myr between 481 and 465 Ma, followed by a lower cooling rate of ~6 °C/Myr during the subsequent c. 30 million years. The K-feldspar 40Ar/39Ar ages place a lower time limit on the duration of the exhumation, by the time of thermal relaxation to a stable continental geotherm. Oceanic crust production and climate during the last 100 Myr   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In order to evaluate the possible influence of oceanic crust production on climatic changes during the past 100Myr variations in total oceanic crust for this period including production at mid-ocean ridges, oceanic plateaus, and back-arc basins were calculated using the most recent and accurate time-scales. The rates presented here differ from those of Larson (1991a, b) on Cenozoic fluctuations and show that (1) maximum production values occurred during the Cenomanian, Palaeocene, and late Oligocene-early Miocene and (2) minimum values occurred in Campanian-Maastrichtian, late Eocene, and middle Miocene. Significantly, variations of oceanic crust production correspond with variations in the δ18O of deep-water benthic foraminifera: maximum values of oceanic crust production correspond with minimum values of δ18O, and minimum production values with maximum values of δ18O. This latter synchronism suggests that changes in land-sea relationships and atmospheric CO2 related to major fluctuations in oceanic crust production were the main cause of mid-Cretaceous warming and Late Cretaceous cooling, and of climatic quasi-cycles having a periodicity of 33–38 million years over the last 100 Myr. This is the first report showing variations of ocean crust production synchronized with the Cenozoic climate changes.  相似文献
