Simulation calculations have been made to examine the modification effect of a hot X-ray photon field on a-ray spectrum by the photon-photon pair production and inverse Compton scattering processes. The Cyg X-3 system was used as a paradigm. It is shown that a-ray spectrum can change significantly when passing through the ambient keV X-ray photon field of an accretion binary source. For Cyg X-3, a significant amount of r-rays originated near the central source in the range of 102-104 MeV could be absorbed by the extended X-ray photons from accretion disk corona in a high X-ray luminosity state and, on the other hand, the inverse Compton effect of secondary electrons could cause a considerable increase in intensity of-rays between ~ 10 MeV and ~ 50 MeV. The relevance of the absorption effect for observations is discussed.  相似文献

Two-dimensional hydrodynamic models of the collision region between the stream and the disk in a cataclysmic binary are presented. The adiabatic collision results in significant mass loss from the system and produces large turbulent regions in outer parts of the disk. Radiative cooling of the collision region leeds to a semi-continuous injection of mass into the disk in the form of dense blobs of gas. In both cases the hot regions obtained as a result of the collision are over 1/6 of the circumference of the disk long and almost 40% of its radius deep, deserving to be renamed hot stripes.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. The X-ray heating light curve of the binary X-ray source 4U2129+47/V1727 Cgy is synthesized. A reliable solution is obtained only after accounting for the influence of an accretion disk. Earlier photometric and spectroscopic observations of the binary BM Ori are interpreted in terms of a thin disk model for the object which causes the eclipses. It is shown that the secondary mass, about which the disk particles orbit, has small dimensions and a mass of 3 to 4m , which suggests that it can only be a collapsed star. The model requires a history of mass exchange or mass loss for the binary. If the Trapezium stars have been formed with the past 2×104 yr, as some studies have indicated, a less conventional alternative, perhaps involving fragmentation of a pre-stellar mass, is needed. Further observations may make it possible to decide for certain between this and a recent model by Hall.  相似文献

Additional observations of He ii (304 Å) and Si xi (303 Å) were obtained from a high resolution rocket spectrograph flown on 30 August, 1973 and 20 January, 1975. The profile of the He ii (304 Å) line is everywhere clearly non-gaussian across the solar disk, except in bright active areas. Near the limb, the profile is distinctly reversed. The profile of the Si xi (303 Å) line is essentially gaussian for all regions across the solar disk. Measurements of the He ii/Si xi intensity ratio indicate that the average value of this ratio across the disk depends markedly on solar activity, being about 101 for a moderate level of activity and 301 for a quiet Sun.  相似文献

TheUBV-photometry of a well-known X-ray binary Her X-1/HZ Her over 16 years is presented. The mean light curves of this system were constructed, using our and published data. Based on our observations in primary minimum the colour behaviour of Her X-1/HZ Her was investigated. This paper examines the question of the influence of the 525.02 nm Fei line profile (slope of its wings) variations over the solar disk upon observations of large-scale magnetic fields (LSMF) made in this line. The study has shown that depending on the position on the disk (center-limb effect) and magnetic field parameters at the place of the observation, values of magnetic field strengths determined with proper account of the real line profile and in the usual way (by calibration using the line profile at the center of the solar disk only) can differ by 25% or more, which is of crucial importance. Observations at the Solar Telescope for Operative Predictions (STOP) of the Sayan Observatory have been used to accomplish this work.  相似文献

In order to explain the variable H emission and the eclipse-like light variation of Ori E, we investigated the circumstellar gas trapped by the stellar magnetic field and corotating with the star. By considering the potential along the magnetic field line, we found that the gas concentrates to a potential minimum. The circumstellar gas forms either two condensations or a disk, depending on the inclination of the magnetic dipole to the stellar rotation axis. The geometrical thickness of the circumstellar disk, of about 0.2 stellar radii, and the distance from the center of the star to the inner edge of the disk, of about 3 stellar radii, were obtained. The H emission line profile at its maximum phase and the amplitude of light variation were calculated by assuming the isothermal gas in LTE with the maximum gas density which the magnetic field can hold. The model gives good agreement with observation in the low obliquity case, and also explains the phase correlation among the H emission maximum, the light minimum, and the magnetic extreme. The model, however, failed to explain the large IR excess in theM band.  相似文献

Neutron stars in X-ray binary systems are fascinating objects that display a wide range of timing and spectral phenomena in the X-rays. Not only parameters of the neutron stars, like magnetic field strength and spin period evolve in their active binary phase, the neutron stars also affect the binary systems and their immediate surroundings in many ways. Here we discuss some aspects of the interactions of the neutron stars with their environments that are revelaed from their X-ray emission. We discuss some recent developments involving the process of accretion onto high magnetic field neutron stars: accretion stream structure and formation, shape of pulse profile and its changes with accretion torque. Various recent studies of reprocessing of X-rays in the accretion disk surface, vertical structures of the accretion disk and wind of companion star are also discussed here. The X-ray pulsars among the binary neutron stars provide excellent handle to make accurate measurement of the orbital parameters and thus also evolution of the binray orbits that take place over time scale of a fraction of a million years to tens of millions of years. The orbital period evolution of X-ray binaries have shown them to be rather complex systems. Orbital evolution of X-ray binaries can also be carried out from timing of the X-ray eclipses and there have been some surprising results in that direction, including orbital period glitches in two X-ray binaries and possible detection of the most massive circum-binary planet around a Low Mass X-ray Binary.  相似文献

In this paper we present multicolor images of the Beta Pictoris disk, obtained with a new Coronograph, built at STScI, for ESO's New Technology Telescope. These B, V, and R observations probe the Beta Pictoris circumstellar disk in to a distance of 35 AU (2) from the central star. We derive surface brightness profiles for the disk and discuss the results in the context of two-component disk models (e.g. Backmanet al. 1992), which are based on fits to available optical and infrared data for Beta Pictoris's disk. These models generally imply that the disk is composed of 1) an outer disk extending from 100–1000 AU, with a midplane particle density decreasing as n(r) r–3, 2) a transition region extending from 10–100 AU with lower density and either smaller grains or a less steep spatial gradient than the outer component, 3) an innermost clear zone with even lower density.  相似文献

The structure of the SS 433 supercritical accretion disk derived from spectral and photometric data is described. In the disk plane, gas outflows at a velocity of about 100-150 km/s, while above the disk plane, the velocity increases sharply and reaches 1500 km/s at polar angle 60°. The outer parts of the accretion disk are involved in the precessional motion, which means that the slaved disk precession model is correct. There is complex periodic variability in the radial velocities of SS 433. Apart from the well-known precessional and orbital variability, the strongest cycle is 1/7 of the precession period, P7 = 23.228 ± 0.005 days. This is interpreted as evidence for a spiral shock in the accretion disk. The He II 4686 line consists of two components: a stream-formed narrow Gaussian profile and a broad double-peaked one. The latter is completely eclipsed at phase 0.0. Its blue and red peaks are probably emitted in gaseous cocoons around the bases of the relativistic jets. A correct value of the mass function has been found, which shows that the optical star is massive. The relativistic star's mass is estimated to be Mx 6M.  相似文献

Consideration is given to a search for relativistic objects in massive close binary systems without strong X-ray emission (L x <1034 erg s–1). It is pointed out that, according to the present-day theory on the evolution of massive close binaries, the number of neutron stars and black holes in non-X-ray binary systems must be 100 times the number of the known X-ray binaries comprising OB supergiant stars; that is why, in studying non-X-ray binary systems, the chances are to detect about a hundred of black holes in the Galaxy.Criteria are formulated for the relativistic nature of companions in the binary systems, such as high spatial velocity values and height Z over the galactic plane for OB stars (runaway stars) and for Wolf-Rayet stars. As reported by Tutukov and Yungelson (1973), as well as by van den Heuvel (1976), the presence of ring-type nebulae can serve as another indication of a relativistic nature of companions in the case of Wolf-Rayet stars.Data are collected on Wolf-Rayet stars with low-mass companions (Table I), which can be relativistic objects accreting within a strong stellar wind from Wolf-Rayet stars. Presented are new findings in respect of spectral examination of the runaway OB-stars (Table II), bringing together data on eight OB stars which can represent binary systems with relativistic companions (Table III).A list of 28 OB-stars (Table IV) which offer a good chance for finding relativistic companions is given.  相似文献

A young binary system is considered, having a mass ratio of components M 2/M 1 1, in which the low-velocity part of the stellar wind of the low-mass component (the so-called disk wind) can be partially captured by the gravitation of the primary component. It is shown that a large-scale redistribution of matter and angular momentum between the inner and outer parts of the gas-dust disk surrounding the binary system occurs as a result, with a consequent increase in the rate of accretion onto the primary component. In cases in which the orbital eccentricity of the secondary component is nonzero, modulation of the rate of accretion onto the primary component should be observed with a period equal to the orbital period, while in the case of a highly elongated orbit the mass accretion acquires a pulsed character. Since dust may be present in the disk wind from the secondary component, the capture of stellar wind will result in an increase in the effective geometrical thickness of the gas-dust disk. For this reason, the infrared (IR) emission excesses of such stars (especially in the near-IR range) and their intrinsic polarization can be considerably greater than in the case of a single star surrounded by a circumstellar disk of the same mass, and a periodic component may also be present in their behavior with time. Moreover, because of disruption of the axial symmetry in the dust distribution in the vicinity of the young binary system, the orbital period may also be present in its brightness variations. The role of these effects in the physics of young stars is discussed.  相似文献

The influence of the chromospheric condensation on H line profiles for the thermal model of a solar flare has been empirically studied in this paper. The so-called thermal model here means that there is no temperature increase relative to the quiet-Sun chromosphere but with a chromospheric condensation in the lower part of its transition region, which case is assumed to represent the early stage of the impulsive phase. The main results include: when the temperature within the condensation region is assumed to be equal to that in front of it, the influence is to create an additional absorption profile overlapping on the original one; by increasing the condensation strength, the H line profile changes from a little line-center increase to broadened red asymmetry, then to the reversed red asymmetry, and finally to two independent absorption profiles; the thickness of the condensation determines the absorption of the additional profile; descending the transition region has no obvious effect on the basic characteristic of the H line profile except a little increase in the line center. Assuming that the temperature within the condensation is higher than that ahead of the condensation, the calculated H line profiles may be strong enough to be comparable with the observations. Monte Carlo simulations show that the pulse profile of erenkov photons measured near the core of an extensive air shower is sensitive to the secondary muon/electron ratio of the cascade. erenkov pulses can easily be measured with a single large area mirror viewed by a photomultiplier tube subtending a small field of view (1°). Even for such a simple experiment, exposed to EAS from a range of core locations and arrival directions, strong statistical differences are shown to exist between the pulse parameter distributions of primary protons and those of heavier primary particles. A range of primary energies can be investigated by varying the zenith angle of observations. In this paper, results from simulations of primaries in the energy range 20 TeV to 400 TeV are presented, although in principle the technique could be extended to include the knee of the spectrum. At the lower end of this energy range results can be compared to direct measurements of the composition, while measurements at the upper end can augment results from existing ground based experiments.  相似文献

SS433, located at the center of the supernova remnant W50, is a close proximity binary system consisting of a compact star and a normal star. Jets of material are directed outwards from the vicinity of the compact star symmetrically to the east and west. Non-thermal hard X-ray emission is detected from lobes lying on both sides. Shock accelerated electrons are expected to generate VHE gamma rays through the inverse-Compton process in the lobes. Observations of the western X-ray lobe region of SS433/W50 system have been performed to detect VHE gamma rays using the 10 m CANGAROO-II telescope in August and September, 2001, and July and September, 2002. The total observation times are 85.2 h for ON source, and 80.8 h for OFF source data. No significant excess of VHE gamma rays has been found at three regions of the western X-ray lobe of SS433/W50 system. We have derived 99% confidence level upper limits to the fluxes of gamma rays and have set constraints on the strengths of the magnetic fields assuming the synchrotron/inverse-Compton model for the wide energy range of photon spectrum from radio to TeV. The derived lower limits are G for the center of the brightest X-ray emission region and G for the far end from SS433 in the western X-ray lobe. In addition, we suggest that the spot-like X-ray emission may provide a major contribution to the hardest X-ray spectrum in the lobe.  相似文献

Spectral observations of the Herbig Ae star MWC 480 are reported. Observations were made on the 2.6 m telescope at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and the 6 m telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory in the neighborhoods of the sodium resonance doublet, the He I 5876 line, the oxygen O I 7774 line, the H line, and some others. The H line has a P Cyg-type profile which is typical of anisotropic decelerated material outflows. The parameters of the line profile vary on a time scale on the order of days or longer. The blue wing of the line profile, in which noticeable changes are detectable over times of a few hours, is subject to the greatest variation. An unusual line shape is observed in the sodium lines. Their profiles resemble type P Cyg profiles with discrete absorption components can be seen in the blue wing. The number, shape, and radial velocities of the components change with time. The maximum radial velocity is -330 km/s and the minimum, about -50 km/s. The high velocity components are subject to the greatest variability. An analysis of the spectral variability yields the following conclusions: (1) the inner layers of the accretion disk of MWC 480 reach right to the star. The maximum rotation velocity of the circumstellar gas derived from the oxygen OI 7774 line shape is close to 400-500 km/s, which corresponds roughly to the radius of the last Keplerian orbit. (2) A highly nonuniform, high velocity component of the disk wind, which contains dense fragments (microjets), develops in this region. They appear to form as a result of the unstable structure of the magnetic field in the layers of the accretion disk closest to the star. (3) The maximum velocities of the microjets are only slightly higher than the escape velocity at the star's surface. Thus, the bulk of the momentum which they acquire is expended in overcoming the star's gravity and this causes a deceleration in the radial motion of the gas. This kind of structure for the radiating region is consistent with magneto-centrifugal models of the disk wind in which the intrinsic magnetic field of the accretion disk plays a dominant role in the acceleration of the gas.  相似文献

High-resolution Coude observations of non-axisymmetric line emission from the dwarf nova SS Cygni are presented. By subtracting the constant line component, the asymmetric line emission responsible for the observed phase shift between the absorption and emission line radial velocity curves can be isolated. The extra emission is a large fraction of the total line emission and extends to large velocities (1500 km sec–1). The phase stability of the emission demands a large-scale structure which is fixed in the frame of the binary. A magnetic origin of the excitation cannot be ruled out but is implausible. We observed in Ha the impulsive phase of a 1N/M2.0 limb flare on September 8, 1988 with high temporal resolution. With an imaging spectrograph line profiles have been acquired every 2.3 s. The temporal evolution in the blue and red wing has been correlated with hard X-ray data from HXRBS. It is shown that a prominent spike in the blue wing of H was delayed with respect to the corresponding hard X-ray burst by 7–8 s. With the exception of the spike in the blue wing of H, the temporal development of the line profile is compatible with the predictions for nonthermal electron heating during the impulsive phase.  相似文献

The dependence of the spin frequency derivative \(\dot \nu \) of accreting neutron stars with a strongmagnetic field (X-ray pulsars) on the mass accretion rate (bolometric luminosity, Lbol) has been investigated for eight transient pulsars in binary systems with Be stars. Using data from the Fermi/GBM and Swift/BAT telescopes, we have shown that for seven of the eight systems the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) can be fitted by the model of angular momentum transfer through an accretion disk, which predicts the relation \(\dot \nu \)L6/7bol. Hysteresis in the dependence \(\dot \nu \) (Lbol) has been confirmed in the system V 0332+53 and has been detected for the first time in the systems KS 1947+300, GRO J1008-57, and 1A 0535+26. Estimates for the radius of the neutron star magnetosphere in all of the investigated systems have been obtained. We show that this quantity varies from pulsar to pulsar and depends strongly on the analytical model and the estimates for the neutron star and binary system parameters.  相似文献
