δ87Sr values and Ca/Sr ratios were employed to quantify solute inputs from atmospheric and lithogenic sources to a catchment in NW Germany. The aquifer consists primarily of unconsolidated Pleistocene eolian and fluviatile deposits predominated by >90% quartz sand. Accessory minerals include feldspar, glauconite, and mica, as well as disperse calcium carbonate in deeper levels. Decalcification of near-surface sediment induces groundwater pH values up to 4.4 that lead to enhanced silicate weathering. Consequently, low mineralized Ca–Na–Cl- and Ca–Cl-groundwater types are common in shallow depths, while in deeper located calcareous sediment Ca–HCO3-type groundwater prevails. δ87Sr values and Ca/Sr ratios of the dissolved pool range from 7.3 to −2.6 and 88 to 493, respectively. Positive δ87Sr values and low Ca/Sr ratios indicate enhanced feldspar dissolution in shallow depths of less than 20 m below soil surface (BSS), while equilibrium with calcite governs negative δ87Sr values and elevated Ca/Sr ratios in deep groundwater (>30 m BSS). Both positive and negative δ87Sr values are evolved in intermediate depths (20–30 m BSS). For groundwater that is undersaturated with respect to calcite, atmospheric supplies range from 4% to 20%, while feldspar-weathering accounts for 8–26% and calcium carbonate for 62–90% of dissolved Sr2+. In contrast, more than 95% of Sr2+ is derived by calcium carbonate and less than 5% by feldspar dissolution in Ca–HCO3-type groundwater. The surprisingly high content of carbonate-derived Sr2+ in groundwater of the decalcified portion of the aquifer may account for considerable contributions from Ca-containing fertilizers. Complementary tritium analyses show that equilibrium with calcite is restricted to old groundwater sources.  相似文献

The application of the Sr/Ca-Ba/Ca systematics to volcanic rocks of the Andean Southern Volcanic Zone (33°S–46°S) has revealed a good correlation between the estimated degree of partial melting required to generate primary magmas and the projected extensions of the oceanic Nazca plate fracture zones under the continental South American plate. Magmas erupted at volcanic centers situated above these projections are thought to have been derived from primary magmas generated by relatively high degrees of melting, whereas those erupted at other centers are thought to have evolved from magmas produced by comparatively low degree of fusion. We interpret this relationship to reflect the facilitation of heat and mass transfer from the asthenosphere below the subducted oceanic lithosphere to the subarc mantle by the fracture zones. This contribution enhances the degree of melting of the subarc mantle source as well as the fraction of material derived from the subducted oceanic crust. This model predicts the predominance of basalts depleted in incompatible trace elements in centers located above the Nazca plate fracture zone extensions and of basalts enriched in incompatible trace elements in centers situated between boundaries of fracture extensions.  相似文献

Two groups of rhyolites have been recognized at San Vincenzo (Tuscany, Italy). Group A rhyolites are characterized by plagioclase, quartz, biotite, sanidine and cordierite mineral assemblages. They show constant MgO and variable CaO and Na2O contents. Initial87Sr/86Sr ratios in group A samples range between 0.71950 and 0.72535, whereas the Nd isotopic compositions are relatively constant (0.51215–0.51222). Group B rhyolites are characterized by orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene as additional minerals, and show textural, mineralogical and chemical evidence of interaction with more mafic magmas. The Sr and Nd isotopic ratios range between 0.71283–0.71542 and 0.51224–0.51227 respectively. Magmatic inclusions of variable size (1 mm to 10 cm) were found in groups B rhyolites. These inclusions consist mainly of diopsidic clinopyroxene and minor olivine and biotite. They are latitic in composition and represent blobs of hybrid intermediate magmas entrained in the rhyolitic melts. These magmatic inclusions have relatively high Sr contents (996–1529 ppm) and Sr and Nd isotope-ratios of 0.70807–0.70830 and 0.51245–0.51252 respectively.87Sr/87Sr data on minerals separated from both group A and B rhyolites and magmatic inclusions reveal strong isotopic disequilibria due to the presence of both restitic and newly crystallized phases in group A rhyolites and due to interaction of rhyolites with a mantle-de-rived magma in group B rhyolites. Isotopic data on whole rocks and minerals allow us to interpret the group A rhyolites as representative of different degrees of melting of an isotopically fairly homogeneous pelitic source; conversely, group B rhyolites underwent interactions with a mantle-derived magma. The crustal source as inferred from isotopic systematics would be characterized by87Sr/86Sr and143Nd/144Nd ratios close to 0.7194 and 0.51216 respectively. The sub-crustal magma would have Sr isotopic composition close to 0.7077 and a143Nd/144Nd ratio greater than or equal to 0.51252. These isotopic features are different from those reported for the parental magmas postulated for Vulsini and Alban Hills in the nearby Roman Magmatic Province, and are similar to those of the Vesuvius and Ischia magmas.  相似文献

The F2-layer peak density, NmF2, and peak altitude, hmF2, which were observed by 12 ionospheric sounders during the 20 September 1964 geomagnetically quiet time period at solar minimum are compared with those calculated by the three-dimensional time-dependent theoretical model of the Earth's low and middle latitude ionosphere and plasmasphere. The modeled NmF2 are also compared with those measured during the geomagnetically quiet time periods of 12–15, 18–21, and 26 September 1964 to take into account observed day-to-day ionospheric variability. Major features of the data are reproduced by the model if the corrected HWM90 neutral wind is used. The changes in NmF2 due to the zonal E×B plasma drift are found to be less than 20% in the daytime low latitude ionosphere. The model, which does not take into account the zonal E×B plasma drift, underestimates night-time NmF2 up to the maximum factor of 2 at low geomagnetic latitudes. The night-time increase of NmF2 caused by the zonal E×B plasma drift is less pronounced at −20° and 20° geomagnetic latitudes in comparison with that between −10° and 10° geomagnetic latitude. The longitude dependence of the calculated night-time low latitude influence of the zonal E×B plasma drift on NmF2 is explained in terms of the longitudinal asymmetry in B (the eccentric magnetic dipole is displaced from the Earth's center and the Earth's eccentric tilted magnetic dipole moment is inclined with respect to the Earth's rotational axis), and the variations of the wind induced plasma drift and the meridional E×B plasma drift in geomagnetic longitude. The difference between the hmF2 values calculated by including the effect of zonal E×B drift and that obtained when it is excluded does not exceed 19 km in the low latitude ionosphere. Over the geomagnetic equator the zonal E×B plasma drift produces the maximum increase in the electron density by a factor of 1.06–1.48 and 1.05–1.30 at 700 and 1000 km altitude, respectively, and this increase is not significant above about 1500 km. Changes in the vertical electron content, VEC, caused by the zonal E×B plasma do not exceed 16% during the day, while the value of the night-time VEC is increased up to a factor of 1.4 due to this drift. The maximum effects of the zonal E×B plasma drift on the night-time electron density derived from the model results corresponding to solar minimum and maximum are quite comparable.  相似文献

Sr and Nd isotope and geochemical investigations were performed on a remarkably homogeneous, high-silica rhyolite magma reservoir of the Aira pyroclastic eruption (22,000 years ago), southern Kyushu, Japan. The Aira caldera was formed by this eruption with four flow units (Osumi pumice fall, Tsumaya pryoclastic flow, Kamewarizaka breccia and Ito pyroclastic flow). Quite narrow chemical compositions (e.g., 74.0–76.5 wt% of SiO2) and Sr and Nd isotopic values (87Sr/86Sr=0.70584–0.70599 and Nd=−5.62 to −4.10) were detected for silicic pumices from the four units, with the exception of minor amounts of dark pumices in the units. The high Sr isotope ratios (0.7065–0.7076) for the dark pumices clearly suggest a different origin from the silicic pumices. Andesite to basalt lavas in pre-caldera (0.37–0.93 Ma) and post-caldera (historical) eruptions show lower 87Sr/86Sr (0.70465–0.70540) and higher Nd (−1.03 to +0.96) values than those of the Aira silicic and dark pumices. Both andesites of pre- and post-caldera stages are very similar in major- and trace-element characteristics and isotope ratios, suggesting that the both andesites had a same source and experienced the same process of magma generation (magma mixing between basaltic and dacitic magmas). Elemental and isotopic signatures deny direct genetic relationships between the Aira pumices and pre- and post-caldera lavas. Relatively upper levels of crust (middle–upper crust) are assumed to have been involved for magma generation for the Aira silicic and dark pumices. The Aira silicic magma was derived by partial melting of a separate crust which had homogeneous chemistry and limited isotope compositions, while the magma for the Aira dark pumice was generated by AFC mixing process between the basement sedimentary rocks and basaltic parental magma, or by partial melting of crustal materials which underlay the basement sediments. The silicic magma did not occupy an upper part of a large magma body with strong compositional zonation, but formed an independent magma body within the crust. The input and mixing of the magma for dark pumices to the base of the Aira silicic magma reservoir might trigger the eruptions in the upper part of the magma body and could produce a slight Sr isotope gradient in the reservoir. An extremely high thermal structure within the crust, which was caused by the uprise and accumulation of the basaltic magma, is presumed to have formed the large volume of silicic magma of the Aira stage.  相似文献

Basalts from the Marquesas Archipelago display significant variations according to magmatic type in 143Nd/144Nd (0.512710–0.512925) and 87Sr/86Sr (0.70288–0.70561) suggesting heterogeneities at various scales in the mantle source, with respectively the highest and lowest values in tholeiites compared to alkali basalts. This relationship is the reverse from that observed in the Hawaiian islands. Systematic indications of magma mixing are recognized from the relationships between trace element and isotopic ratios. Tholeiites from Ua Pou Island which have unradiogenic Sr (about 0.7028) plot close to basalts from Tubuai and St. Helena, i.e. distinctly below the main mantle trend in the Nd vs. Sr isotopic diagram. It is suggested that the source of these tholeiites is ancient subducted lithosphere which has suffered previous extraction of liquid with island arc tholeiite composition. The trace element and isotopic data of the basalts from the other Marquesas Islands imply the contamination of an equivalent source by an enriched component. This latter has trace element characteristics of the upper crust.  相似文献

Changes in oceanic O–Sr isotopic compositions and global cooling beginning in the Eocene are considered to have been caused by the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau. The specific timing and uplift mechanism, however, have long been subjects of debate. We investigated the Duogecuoren lavas of the central-western Qiangtang Block, which form the largest outcrops among Cenozoic lavas in northern-central Tibet and have widely been considered as shoshonitic. Our study demonstrates, however, that most of these lavas are high-K calc-alkaline andesites, dacites and rhyolites. Moreover, they are characterized by high Sr (367–2472 ppm) and Al2O3 (14.55–16.86 wt.%) and low Y (3.05–16.9 ppm) and Yb (0.31–1.48 ppm) contents and high La/Yb (27–100) and Sr/Y (48–240) ratios, similar to adakitic rocks derived by partial melting of an eclogitic source. They can be further classified as either peraluminous and metaluminous subtypes. The peraluminous rocks have relatively high SiO2 (> 66 wt.%) contents, and low MgO (< 1.0 wt.%), Cr (4.94–23.3 ppm) and Ni (2.33–17.0 ppm) contents and Mg# (20–50) values, while the metaluminous rocks exhibit relatively low SiO2 (55–69 wt.%) contents, and high MgO (1.41–6.34), Cr (25.7–383 ppm), Ni (14.13–183 ppm) and Mg# (46–69) values, similar to magnesian andesites. 40Ar/39Ar and SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating reveal that both peraluminous and metaluminous adakitic rocks erupted in the Eocene (46–38 Ma). Paleocene–Early Miocene thrust faults and associated syn-contractional basin deposits in the Qiangtang Block suggest that this region was undergoing crustal shortening within a continent during the Eocene. The low εNd (− 2.81 to − 6.91) and high 87Sr/86Sr (0.7057–0.7097), Th (11.2–32.3 ppm) and Th/La (0.23–0.88) values in the Duogecuoren adakitic rocks further indicate that they were not derived by partial melting of subducted oceanic crust. Taking into account tectonic and geophysical data and the compositions of xenoliths in Cenozoic lava in northern-central Tibet, we suggest that the peraluminous adakitic rocks were most probably derived by partial melting of subducted sediment-dominated continent of the Songpan-Ganzi Block along the Jinsha suture to the north at a relatively shallow position (the hornblende + garnet stability field), but the metaluminous adakitic rocks likely originated from the interaction between peraluminous adakitic melts generated at greater depths (the garnet + rutile stability field) and mantle. Because the Duogecuoren adakitic rocks must have originated from a garnet-bearing (namely, eclogite facies) source, Eocene continental subduction along the Jinsha suture caused the thickening of the Qiangtang crust. Given that crustal thickening generally equates with elevation, the uplift of the Central Tibetan Plateau probably began as early as 45–38 Ma, which provides important evidence for tectonically driven models of oceanic O–Sr isotope evolution during global cooling and Asian continental aridification beginning in the Eocene.  相似文献

Eighteen basic rocks from Ascension Island (South Atlantic) give a mean87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70311 ± 17 for both volcanics and plutonic inclusions. The late-stage differentiated rocks (rhyolites and granitic inclusions) have much higher87Sr/86Sr ratios, up to 0.712. All these rocks display the same range of Nd isotopic compositions (εNdvalues from6.9to11.1with a mean on12samples of8.4 ± 0.6) implying a cogenetic relation between the two sequences. The D/H systematics lead to the same conclusion. In the NdSr diagram, the data plot close to the mantle array and show a positive correlation. This suggests a mixing between a depleted MORB-type mantle, i.e. the upper mantle, and a hot-spot with less depleted geochemical characteristics, i.e. the OIB mantle source. The total range of δ18O values lies between 4.8‰ for plagioclase cumulates and 6.7‰ for the most evolved rocks (peralkaline granites and comendites). The basic rocks have values around 5.3‰, typical of mantle-derived material. These oxygen data indicate that the high87Sr/86Sr ratios in the most evolved rocks (both volcanic and plutonic terms) result from the combination of two different processes: incorporation of slight amounts (< 1%) of high-temperature altered oceanic crust by the magma in the late stages of the differentiation process and then in-situ Rb decay since the time of formation of these rocks. Both processes were very effective because of the high Rb and low Sr contents of these evolved rocks.Oxygen isotope systematics in the Ascension Island granites and rhyolites indicate that a fractional crystallization process alone does not produce δ18O values higher than 6.7‰, i.e. that the ultimate δ18O enrichment, relative to the initial basic magma, is not greater than 1.5‰.  相似文献

The seismic performance of geotechnical works is significantly affected by ground displacement. In particular, soil–structure interaction and effects of liquefaction play major roles and pose difficult problems for engineers. An International Standard, ISO23469, is being developed for addressing these issues in a systematic manner within a consistent framework. The objective of this paper is to give an overview of this International Standard. In this International Standard, the seismic actions are determined through two stages. The first stage determines basic seismic action variables, including the earthquake ground motion at the site, the potential for earthquake-associated phenomena such as liquefaction and induced lateral ground displacement. These basic variables are used, in the second stage, for specifying the seismic actions for designing geotechnical works. In the second stage, the soil–structure interaction plays a major role. Types of analyses are classified based on a combination of static/dynamic analyses and the procedure for soil–structure interaction classified as follows:
– simplified: soil–structure interaction of a global system is modeled as an action on a substructure;
– detailed: soil–structure interaction of a global system is modeled as a coupled system.
Keywords: Design; Geotechnical works; Liquefaction; International Standard; Seismic actions; Seismic hazard analysis  相似文献

The Grand Brûlé borehole intersects a thick pile of basaltic lavas, down to 1010 m, and a basic-ultrabasic intrusive complex, from 1010 to 3003.50 m.The lavas are, in general, unaltered except in two fractured zones, where hydrothermal fluids circulated at temperatures not exceeding 350 ° C. The main secondary minerals there are pyroxene, feldspar, epidote, actinolite and chlorite. The entire thickness of the intrusive body intersected contains secondary minerals representing three stages of cooling:
1. 1. A late magmatic episode (600–900°C) characterized by biotite, kaersutite, edenite and pargasite.
2. 2. A hydrothermal episode (T<- 350°C) characterized by epidote, albite, biotite, actinolite and chlorite.
3. 3. A phase of serpentinization (T≤ 350°C).
It is very likely that the two later events occurred simultaneously, with physical and chemical interference.  相似文献

The magmatic system feeding the last eruption of the volcano La Fossa, Vulcano Island, Italy was studied. The petrogenetic mechanisms controlling the differentiation of erupted rocks were investigated through petrography, mineral chemistry, major, trace and rare earth element and Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic geochemistry. In addition, melt inclusion and fluid inclusion data were collected on both juvenile material and xenolithic partially melted metamorphic clasts to quantify the P-T conditions of the magma chamber feeding the eruption. A regular and continuous chemical zoning has been highlighted: rhyolites are the first erupted products, followed by trachytes and latites, whereas rhyolitic compositions were also found in the upper part of the sequence. The chemical and isotopic composition of the rhyolites indicates that they originated by fractional crystallization from latitic magmas plus the assimilation of crustal material; the trachytes represent hybrid magmas resulting from the mixing of latites and rhyolites, contaminated in the shallow magmatic system. The erupted products, primarily compositionally zoned from latites to rhyolites, are heterogeneous due to syn-eruptive mingling. The occurrence of magmacrust interaction processes, evidenced by isotopic variations (87Sr/86Sr=0.70474±3 to 0.70511±3; 143Nd/144Nd=0.512550±6 to 0.512614±8; 206Pb/204Pb=19.318–19.489; 207Pb/204Pb=15.642–15.782; 208Pb/204Pb=39.175–39.613), is confirmed by the presence of partially melted metamorphic xenoliths, with 87Sr/86Sr=0.71633±6 to 0.72505±2 and 143Nd/144Nd=0.51229±7, in rhyolites and trachytes. AFC calculations indicate a few percentage contribution of crustal material to the differentiating magmas. Thermometric measurements on melt inclusions indicate that the crystallization temperatures of the latites and trachytes were in the range of 1050–1100° C, whereas the temperature of the rhyolites appears to have been around 1000°C at the time of the eruption. Compositional data on melt inclusions reveal that the magmas involved in the eruption contained about 1–1.5 wt.% dissolved H2O in pre-eruptive conditions. Secondary fluid inclusions found in metamorphic xenoliths give low equilibration pressure data (30–60 MPa), giving the location of the higher portions of the chamber at around 1500–2000 m of depth.  相似文献

Volcanic and hypabyssal rocks ranging in age from 12 to 3 Ma from the Fernando de Noronha archipelago in the western equatorial Atlantic Ocean can generally be divided into two age-compositional groups that have variable and distinct isotopic compositions. Predominantly older alkali basalts and trachytes are generally characterized by more radiogenic Sr-isotopic (87Sr/86Sr= 0.70457–0.70485) compositions and less radiogenic Nd-isotopic (143/Nd144Nd= 0.51271–0.51281) and Pb-isotopic (206Pb/204Pb= 19.132–19.282) compositions relative to the generally younger, more alkaline Si-undersaturated rocks which include nephelinites, ankaratrites, and melilitites (87Sr/86Sr= 0.70365–0.70418,143Nd/144Nd= 0.51277–0.51290,206Pb/204Pb= 19.317–19.565). These variations suggest the influence of at least two separate components in the source(s) of both series. One component is characterized by highRb/Sr and low μ, possibly derived from delaminated subcontinental lithosphere, whereas the other has high μ and lowRb/Sr similar to the source of St. Helena lavas. A third component is suggested by correlated compositions in the latest alkaline, Si-undersaturated lavas, and this component may be derived from depleted mantle. These isotopic variations in conjunction with the generally increasing degree of alkalinity with time are consistent with the temporal depletion of a low-μ, highRb/Sr component and increasing contributions from a high-μ component in the sources of the volanic rocks of Fernando de Noronha.  相似文献

Erciyes stratovolcano, culminating at 3917 m, is located in the Cappadocian region of central Anatolia. During its evolution, this Quaternary volcano produced pyroclastic deposits and lava flows. The great majority of these products are calc-alkaline in character and they constitute Kocdag and Erciyes sequences by repeated activities. Alkaline activity is mainly observed in the first stages of Kocdag and approximately first-middle stages of Erciyes sequences. Generally, Kocdag and Erciyes stages terminate by pyroclastic activities. The composition of lavas ranges from basalt to rhyolite (48.4–70.5 wt.% SiO2). Calc-alkaline rocks are represented mostly by andesites and dacites. Some compositional differences between alkaline basaltic, basaltic and andesitic rocks were found; while the composition of dacites remain unchanged. All these volcanics are generally enriched in LIL and HFS elements relative to the orogenic values except Rb, Ba, Nb depleted alkaline basalt. 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd isotopic composition of the volcanics range between 0.703344–0.703964, 0.512920–0.512780 for alkaline basalts and change between 0.704322–0.705088, 0.512731–0.512630 for alkaline basaltic rocks whereas calc-alkaline rocks have relatively high Sr and Nd isotopic ratios (0.703434–0.705468, 0.512942–0.512600). Low Rb, Ba, Nb content with high Zr/Nb, low Ba/Nb, La/Yb ratio and low Sr isotopic composition suggest an depleted source component, while high Ba, Rb, Nb content with high La/Yb, Ba/Nb, low Zr/Nb and low 87Sr/86Sr ratios indicate an OIB-like mantle source for the generation of Erciyes alkaline magma. These elemental and ratio variations also indicate that the different mantle sources have undergone different degree of partial melting episodes. The depletion in Ba, Rb, Nb content may be explained by the removal of these elements from the source by slab-derived fluids which were released from pre-collisional subduction, modified the asthenospheric mantle. The chemically different mantle sources interacted with crustal materials to produce calc-alkaline magma. The Ba/Nb increase of calc-alkaline samples indicates the increasing input of crustal components to Erciyes volcanics. Sr and Nd isotopic compositions and elevated LIL and HFS element content imply that calc-alkaline magma may be derived from mixing of an OIB-like mantle melts with a subduction-modified asthenospheric mantle and involvement of crustal materials in intraplate environments.  相似文献

The formation of the Ushant thermal front off northwestern France is simulated numerically with a one-dimensional model of the vertical thermal structure of the sea. This simulation is derived from a Niiler and Kraus (1977, Modelling and prediction of the upper layers of the ocean, pp. 143–172) mixed layer model in which bottom friction is introduced. The model inputs are the meteorological parameters measured at Ushant and the barotropic tidal currents computed with a numerical model (Mariette et al., 1982, Oceanologica Acta, 5, 149–159). Both very fine time steps (Δt = 1h) and spatial steps (horizontal mesh size: Δx = Δy = 2nmi; vertical step: Δz = 1m) are used. This study is intended to be mainly concerned with the processes acting during the formation of the Ushant front. Comparison of the model results with satellite pictures and in situ measurements shows good agreement. We point out that biological blooms could occur according to a spring-neap cycle, during the thermal front formation. The prevailing effect of local processes such as tidally induced bottom friction and energy budget at the sea surface on the thermal evolution of the Mer d'Iroise is then emphasized. During the formation of the front, these effects seem to be more important than the advective processes which are not considered in this work.  相似文献

New stratigraphic, major- and trace-element, and Sr-, Nd- and Pb- isotopic data on volcanic deposits older than 14 ka from the island of Procida, Italy, are presented and compared with published analyses from the rest of the Phlegraean Volcanic District (PVD). Procida rocks range in composition from basalt to shoshonite and trachyte and show 87Sr/86Sr, 143Nd/144Nd, 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios varying within the ranges 0.70523–0.70678, 0.512539–0.512630, 18.99–19.29, 15.67–15.69 and 39.10–39.39, respectively. The presence of a compositional gap in the range SiO2=54–59 wt % is evidence of magma bimodality, and suggests that the feeding magmatic system was formed by at least two different reservoirs located at different depths. Geochemical and isotopic variations with increasing differentiation can be explained by fractional crystallization mechanisms, that in some cases were associated with crustal contamination that occurred in both deeper and shallower reservoirs; the most evolved magmas formed in the shallower one. Mixing/mingling processes also occurred. The variation of isotopic composition through time observed both for Procida and for Campi Flegrei and Ischia rocks is evidence of strong affinity between magmas that erupted on the entire PVD until about 40 ka. This indicates that they share a common origin and a common plumbing system. Most of the PVD eruptive centers active until about 40 ka lie within a NE-SW-oriented volcano-tectonic belt extending from the southeastern part of Ischia, through Procida and Torregaveta volcano to the northeastern sector of the present Campi Flegrei caldera. This not only indicates the existence of a link between regional structures and volcanism in the area, but also suggests that PVD magma genesis and evolution were strongly regulated by extensional tectonics. In the last 40 ka the mafic rocks erupted along this extensional structure – from Torregaveta and the islands of Ischia and Procida – indicate that it still represents an important crustal discontinuity that focuses mantle-derived magmas. Procida trachybasalts are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and light and middle rare earth elements (LREE and MREE), and show slight negative anomalies in the high field strength elements (HFSE) relative to average MORB. A slight depletion in HREE is present. Trace element and isotope systematics can be referred to a lithospheric mantle source. The lithospheric mantle source carries intra-plate and slab-derived components, the latter probably inherited from a previous subduction event.  相似文献

The magma generation at Unzen volcano may be considered as the product of crustal material mixed with mantle magma accompanied by fractional crystallization (AFC). The magma in the Unzen volcano is estimated to consist of about 50–80% of residual magma (F) and about 30–70% assimilated crustal material (A) relative to the original magma. Concerning the 1991–1995 eruption, it is estimated that the magma formed as the result of mixing of about 50–60% crustal material and about 55–65% of residual magma. An alternative magma eruption model for the 1991–1995 eruption is proposed here. In the early stage, the isotopic characteristics of 1991 eruption are defined by AFC process in the deeper magma chamber. Later, the magma ascended through the conduit and quiescently stayed for a long time in a shallow reservoir before eruption. The minerals continuously crystallized as phenocrysts especially at the chilled top and outer margin in the shallow chamber. The crystallized phenocryst mush was reworked into the central part of the magma chamber by means of magma convection and rapid magma ascent. Therefore, the reaction between phenocrysts and melt occurs only in internal chemical disequilibrium in the magma chamber. In contrast, the isotopic compositions of the original magma shall be little influenced by the above processes throughout its eruptive history. The 1991–1995 eruptive rocks of the Unzen volcano show their characteristics in Sr and Nd isotopic values independent of their two previous eruptions. However, the isotopic values of early eruptive product could represent the original magma value. This result also supports the previous work of Chen et al. (1993) [Chen, C.H., DePaolo, D.J., Nakada, S., Shieh, Y.N., 1993. Relationship between eruption volume and neodymium isotopic composition at Unzen volcano. Nature 362, 831–834], that suggested the Nd of early or precursory eruptive products could be a qualitative indicator of the maximum size of a continuing or impending eruption.  相似文献

Potassium-argon dating of volcanic and plutonic rocks in the Andean region of central Chile has revealed previously unrecognized episodes of igneous activity during Cretaceous and Cenozoic time. These results indicate the need to re-evaluate the classic stratigraphic subdivisions that have evolved on lithologic rather than time-stratigraphic criteria.Four radiometric age groups have been identified in the coast range volcanic belt:
1. (1) Las Chilcas Formation — Early Cretaceous continental volcanic strata (120-110 m.y.).
2. (2) Lo Valle Formation — Late Cretaceous continental volcanic strata (78-65 m.y.).
3. (3) Late Oligocene extrusive volcanics (31-28 m.y.).
4. (4) Early Miocene intrusive volcanics (20.6–19.5 m.y.).
Two radiometric age groups have also been identified in the adjacent Andean Cordillera:
1. (1) Farellones Formation — continental volcanic strata (18.5–17.3 m.y.).
2. (2) Early Pliocene extrusive volcanics (5-4 m.y.).
An older group of continental volcanic strata in the Andes represented by the Abanico Formation remains undated but is intruded by plutons dated at 19.5 and 24 m.y.Available chronologic evidence indicates that volcanic activity moved eastward from the coast range volcanic belt to the Andean Cordillera between 20 and 18 m.y. ago and remained there to the present time.  相似文献

The primary isotopic characteristics of alkaline granites are often obscured by secondary processes enhanced by their unusual chemical compositions. This is true for radiogenic as well as for stable isotopes. For example, the 87Sr/86Sr ratios can vary drastically in closed systems because of very high Rb/Sr ratios and can also be easily modified by direct or indirect interaction with continental crust because of low Sr concentrations. Moreover, the frequent occurrence of the granitic massifs as hypovolcanic complexes increases the probability of interaction with meteoric waters which is a common source of important isotopic variability. The investigation of oxygen isotope systematics in alkaline acidic rocks from various environments shows the18O content of their quartz to be highly invariable, and the δ18O values to be close to the mantle range of values. This is due to the resistance of quartz to isotopic exchange, which makes it a good tracer of primary isotopic composition. If we eliminate the quartz δ18O values for which interaction with meteoric water is well documented (five samples), the total range of variation (seventeen samples) is from 6.0 to 7.3‰ relative to SMOW. The values can easily be accounted for by, and correspond to, equilibrium with mantle-type material in a temperature range of 1200-800°C. If we consider possible effects of fractional crystallization, this temperature range can probably be reduced to its lower limit which is much more likely for rocks of acidic composition. The present oxygen isotope study strongly supports an origin for alkaline anorogenic granites from mantle-dominated sources.  相似文献

The rivers in the Baltic Basin drain a mixture of bedrocks ranging from Mesozoic-Paleozoic sediments in the south to Proterozoic-Archean intrusives in the north. The rivers in the sedimentary basin in the south have high concentrations of Sr, in the interval 100–500 µg l–1 while the87Sr/86Sr ratio is close to that of seawater, i.e. 0.71. The northern rivers in the Precambrian shield area on the other hand have low Sr concentrations of 15–50 µg l–1 with high87Sr/86Sr ratios of about to 0.73 (0.721–0.745). The riverine input of dissolved Sr to the brackish Baltic Sea approaches 60 tons year–1, with a weighted mean concentration approaching 130 µg l–1 and a weighted mean87Sr/86Sr ratio close to 0.712. Although the sedimentary area in the south supplies only about 43% of the total river discharge, it gives about 88% of the total Sr input. Because of this and the strong regional riverine variation in87Sr/86Sr ratio, Sr and its isotopes seem to be a convenient tool to unveil mixing relations of water masses in the northern Baltic Sea, provided high resolution analyses are applied. For an overall characterization of water mixing in the Baltic Sea, the Nd system will be superior to that of Sr.  相似文献

Igneous rocks from the Philippine tectonic plate recovered on Deep Sea Drilling Project Legs 31, 58 and 59 have been analyzed for Sr, Nd and Pb isotope ratios. Samples include rocks from the West Philippine Basin, Daito Basin and Benham Rise (40–60 m.y.), the Palau-Kyushu Ridge (29–44 m.y.) and the Parece Vela and Shikoku basins (17–30 m.y.). Samples from the West Philippine, Parece Vela and Shikoku basins are MORB (mid-ocean ridge basalt)-like with 87Sr/86Sr= 0.7026−0.7032, 143Nd/144Nd= 0.51300−0.51315, and 206Pb/204Pb= 17.8−18.1. Samples from the Daito Basin and Benham Rise are OIB (oceanic island basalt)-like with 87Sr/86Sr= 0.7038−0.7040, 143Nd/144Nd= 0.51285−0.51291 and 206Pb/204Pb= 18.8−19.2. All of these rocks have elevated 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb compared to the Northern Hemisphere Regression Line (NHRL) and have δ207Pb values of 0 to +6 and δ208Pb values of +32 to +65. Lavas from the Palau-Kyushu Ridge, a remnant island arc, have 87Sr/86Sr= 7032−0.7035, 143Nd/144Nd= 0.51308−0.51310 and 206Pb/204Pb= 18.4−18.5. Unlike the basin magmas erupted before and after them, these lavas plot along the NHRL and have Pb-isotope ratios similar to modern Pacific plate MORB's. This characteristic is shared by other Palau-Kyushu Arc volcanic rocks that have been sampled from submerged and subaerial portions of the Mariana fore-arc.At least four geochemically distinct magma sources are required for these Philippine plate magmas. The basin magmas tap Source 1, a MORB-mantle source that was contaminated by EMI (enriched mantle component 1 [31]) and Source 2, an OIB-like mantle source with some characteristics of EMII (enriched mantle component 2 [31]). The arc lavas are derived from Source 3, a MORB-source or residue mantle including Sr and Pb from the subducted oceanic crust, and Source 4, MORB-source or residue mantle including a component with characteristics of HIMU (mantle component with high U/Pb [31]). These same sources can account for many of the isotopic characteristics of recent Philippine plate arc and basin lavas. The enriched components in these sources which are associated with the DUPAL anomaly were probably introduced into the asthenosphere from the deep mantle when the Philippine plate was located in the Southern Hemisphere 60 m.y.b.p.  相似文献
