CCD spectra taken with the PFES and CEGS echelle spectrographs attached to the 6-m Special Astrophysical Observatory (Russian Academy of Sciences) telescope and the 2-m Shamakha Astrophysical Observatory (National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan) telescope, respectively, were used to study the line-profile variations in the spectrum of the hot supergiant α Cam. No fast (≤1.5 h) line-profile and radial-velocity variations were found. Some of the systematic effects that cause spurious variability are considered. The Hα-profile variability appears symmetric relative to the radial velocity of the star’s center of mass and is attributable to variable blueshifted and redshifted emission and/or absorption components superimposed on a variable photospheric profile. The Hα line shows evidence of a large-scale mass ejection from the stellar surface, which is also traceable in other spectral lines. The He II 4686 line exhibits an inverse P Cyg profile, while the red wing of the He I 5876 line shows weak and variable emission. The fast (on characteristic time scales of shorter than an hour) variability of the He II 4686 profile that was previously revealed by our observations (Kholtygin et al. 2000) is called into question. A comparison of the observational data on the variability of ultraviolet and optical line profiles for the supergiant αCam suggests that nonradial motions are mainly responsible for the radial-velocity and line-profile variability.  相似文献

According to the standard model, an active galactic nucleus (AGN) consists of an inner accretion disk with a jet around a central massive black hole, and a number of outer broad line regions (BLRs) and narrow line regions (NLRs). The geometrical relationship between the BLRs and the accretion disk is not well understood. Assuming the motion of the BLRs is virialized and its configuration is disk-like, we derived its inclination to the line of sight for a sample of AGNs from their bulge stellar velocity dispersion, their size of the BLRs and their Hβ linewidth. Compared with the inclination of the accretion disk obtained from the X-ray Fe Kα emission lines, we found that there is no positive correlation between the two. Our results showed that BLRs are not coplanar with the accretion disk and that we should be cautious of using the BLRs inclination as the disk inclination. The non-coplanar geometry of the outer BLRs and the inner accretion disk provides clues to the origin of BLRs and the properties of the accretion disk. Our preferable interpretation is that BLRs arise out of the outer part of a warped accretion disk.  相似文献

The sizes of the Broad Line Region (BLR) of some Seyfert 1 galax-ies and nearby quasars can be determined by the reverberation mapping method.Combining with the observed FWHM of Hβ emission line and assuming that themotion of BLR clouds is virialized, the black hole masses of these objects have beenestimated. However, this method strongly depends on the poorly-understood geom-etry and inclination of the BLR. On the other hand, a tight correlation between theblack hole mass and the bulge velocity dispersion was recently found for both activeand nearby inactive galaxies. This may provide another method, independent of theBLR geometry, for estimating the black hole mass. Using this method for estimatingthe black hole mass and combining with the measured BLR size and FWHM of Hβemission line, we derived the BLR inclination angles for 20 Seyfert I galaxies underthe assumption that the BLR is disk-like. The derived inclination angles agree wellwith those derived previously by fitting the UV continuum and Hβ emission lineprofiles. Adopting a relation between the FWHMs of [OⅢ]λ5007 forbidden line andthe stellar velocity dispersion, we also estimated the BLR inclinations for 50 nar-row line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLSls). We found that the inclinations of broad LineSeyfert 1 galaxies (BLS1s) are systematically greater than those of NLS1s, whichseldom exceed 30. This may be an important factor that leads to the differencesbetween NLS1s and BLS1s if the BLR of NLS1s is really disk-like.  相似文献

Stokes polarization profiles of the Mg?b2 5172.68 Å spectral line on two simple sunspots are obtained with the Multi-Channel Solar Telescope (MCST) at the Huairou Solar Observing Station (HSOS). This is done by means of scanning this line over the wavelength interval from 200 mÅ redward of the line center to 200 mÅ blueward, in steps of 10 mÅ. A generalized analytic solution to the transfer equation for polarized radiation is presented. With a nonlinear least-square fitting technique, the linear calibration coefficients for the low-chromospheric longitudinal magnetic field is obtained in the weak-field case. We also discuss the problems in calibrating the transverse field with this line. It is shown that the weak-field approximation is not applicable to the chromospheric Mg?b2 line for the transverse component of the magnetic field.  相似文献

Evolutions of the cool component of the inner solar corona have animportant part in the equilibria and energy transport processes in thesun atmosphere. Since 1994, a numerical daily survey of the entirelimb in the Hydrogen H line is performed with the HACOcoronagraph at Pic-du-Midi observatory. This experiment is includedin the general ground based support programs for the SOHO mission.Real and differed time data are available within the solar data baseBASS2000. A statistical study using the data set obtained during thefirst four years of this program shows some important properties ofthe distribution of the polar ejection and surge events. An asymmetrybetween North and South polar regions is well established. Its signreverseal near the time of the apparition of the new solar magneticactivity cycle is discussed.  相似文献

We analyze the temporal variations of the sizes and emission intensities of 31 flaring kernels in various parts of the H? line profile. We have found that the areas of all kernels decrease systematically when observed in consecutive wavelengths toward the wings of the H? line, but their areas and emission intensity vary in time. Our results are in agreement with the commonly accepted model of the wine-glass-shaped lower parts of the magnetic flaring loops channelling high-energy variable particle beams toward the chromospheric plasma. High time-resolution spectral-imaging data used in our work were collected using the Large Coronagraph and Horizontal Telescope equipped with the Multi-channel Subtractive Double Pass Spectrograph and the Solar Eclipse Coronal Imaging System (MSDP-SECIS) at the Bia?ków Observatory of the University of Wroc?aw, Poland.  相似文献

The inverse problem of nonequilibrium radiative transfer in the Ba II λ 455.403 nm line is solved taking into account the hyperfine structure and isotopic splitting. Diagnostic capabilities of this line for the study of the solar atmosphere are investigated based on the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model. It is shown that the use of inversion methods for the analysis of the observed Ba II λ 455.403 nm line makes it possible to reproduce physical conditions in the layers of the photosphere and the lower chromosphere (0 < h < 600 km) with a correlation coefficient of 0.9.  相似文献

In this paper we present the H map, the 2D velocity field and the rotation curve of the galaxy NGC 784 obtained with the ByuFOSC2 scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer, attached at the prime focus of the 2.6-m telescope of Byurakan Observatory. The H image shows several HII condensations along the major axis of the galaxy. The galaxy has an asymmetric distribution of the H emission. The rotation curve is quite symmetric with a low gradient in the central part of the galaxy.  相似文献

The north – south asymmetries (NSA) of three solar activity indices are derived and mutually compared over a period of more than five solar cycles (1945 – 2001). A catalogue of the hemispheric sunspot numbers, the data set of the coronal green line brightness developed by us, and the magnetic flux derived from the NSO/KP data (1975 – 2001) are treated separately within the discrete low- and mid-latitude zones (5° – 30°, 35° – 60°). The calculated autocorrelations, cross-correlations, and regressions between the long-term NSA data sets reveal regularities in the solar activity phenomenon. Namely, the appearance of a distinct quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) is evident in all selected activity indices. Nevertheless, a smooth behavior of QBO is derived only when sufficient temporal averaging is performed over solar cycles. The variation in the significance and periodicity of QBO allows us to conclude that the QBO is not persistent over the whole solar cycle. A similarity in the photospheric and coronal manifestations of the NSA implies that their mutual relation will also show the QBO. A roughly two-year periodicity is actually obtained, but again only after significant averaging over solar cycles. The derived cross-correlations are in fact variable in degree of correlation as well as in changing periodicity. A clear and significant temporal shift of 1 – 2 months in the coronal manifestation of the magnetic flux asymmetry relative to the photospheric manifestation is revealed as a main property of their mutual correlation. This shift can be explained by the delayed large-scale coronal manifestation in responding to the emergence of the magnetic flux in the photosphere. The reliability of the derived results was confirmed by numerical tests performed by selecting different numerical values of the used parameters.  相似文献

In an earlier research the employment of a radiation transport model with angle-dependent partial frequency redistribution, self-absorption by interplanetary hydrogen, realistic solar HLyαemission profile, and a time dependent `hot' hydrogen model to analyze 5 interplanetary HLyα glow spectra obtained with theHubble–Space–Telescope–GHRS spectrometer, has not resulted in unequivocal determination of a set of thermodynamical parameters of the interstellar hydrogen The residual discrepancies between the model and the data concern the observations performed within an interval of 1 year close to the solar minimum from very similar lines of sight. In this paper we investigate by calculating interplanetary HLyα lines with the use of a one hydrogen distribution and several solar HLyα line profiles whether this residual may be caused by possible variations in time of the shape of the solar HLyα emission line profile which cause variable illuminations of the interplanetary gas. These variations of illuminations cause variations in Doppler shift of the resonant interplanetary HLyα line that can amount to ≃ 4 km s-1in the line peak. Consequently we conclude that without adequate knowledge of the solar HLyα emission line profile during spectral observations of the interplanetary hydrogen gas it is impossible to obtain an agreement between models and observations better than by this value. We show for the first time images of solar coronal mass ejections (CMEs) viewed using the Heliospheric Imager (HI) instrument aboard the NASA STEREO spacecraft. The HI instruments are wide-angle imaging systems designed to detect CMEs in the heliosphere, in particular, for the first time, observing the propagation of such events along the Sun – Earth line, that is, those directed towards Earth. At the time of writing the STEREO spacecraft are still close to the Earth and the full advantage of the HI dual-imaging has yet to be realised. However, even these early results show that despite severe technical challenges in their design and implementation, the HI instruments can successfully detect CMEs in the heliosphere, and this is an extremely important milestone for CME research. For the principal event being analysed here we demonstrate an ability to track a CME from the corona to over 40 degrees. The time – altitude history shows a constant speed of ascent over at least the first 50 solar radii and some evidence for deceleration at distances of over 20 degrees. Comparisons of associated coronagraph data and the HI images show that the basic structure of the CME remains clearly intact as it propagates from the corona into the heliosphere. Extracting the CME signal requires a consideration of the F-coronal intensity distribution, which can be identified from the HI data. Thus we present the preliminary results on this measured F-coronal intensity and compare these to the modelled F-corona of Koutchmy and Lamy (IAU Colloq. 85, 63, 1985). This analysis demonstrates that CME material some two orders of magnitude weaker than the F-corona can be detected; a specific example at 40 solar radii revealed CME intensities as low as 1.7×10−14 of the solar brightness. These observations herald a new era in CME research as we extend our capability for tracking, in particular, Earth-directed CMEs into the heliosphere.  相似文献

Line profiles of He ii 4686 Å and He i 4713 Å from active regions in the chromosphere were observed during the total solar eclipse of February 16, 1980, with a grazing incidence objective grating spectrograph. The Doppler width of the He i triplet line of 4713 Å increases with height and the average width is compatible with width of metallic and hydrogen lines, suggesting that the kinetic temperature of He i triplet emitting region is T 8000 K. This can only be explained by recombination after photo-ionization due to coronal UV radiation. The Doppler width of the Paschen line of He ii 4686 is, without any correction for the separation of subcomponents of the line nor non-thermal velocity, 18.4 km s-1. This line width also shows a tendency to increase with height. After comparison with Doppler widths of He i 4713 and the EUV lines, and a necessary subtraction of non-thermal velocity, it is shown that this line is emitted in a 2 × 104 K temperature region, which again supports the view that this line is emitted through the recombination process after photoionization due to coronal XUV radiation below 228 Å.  相似文献

Many galaxies are thought to contain massive black holes, with masses in excess of ten million solar masses, at their centres and warped circumnu-clear toruses. The best evidence comes from observing gas or masers rotating rapidly within a circumnuclear torus surrounding a central body. Here we report on the first MERLIN observations of line emission from the OH megamaser toward IRAS 10173+0828. The position of peak flux contours of the OH megamaser is consistent with that of the continuum in IRAS 10173+0828. This means that the OH megamaser is a diffuse unsaturated maser which could amplify the diffuse 18 cm continuum emission with an amplification factor of order unity.  相似文献

In a vacuum chamber a plasma is produced by shining a pulsed Nitrogen laser, 20 mJ and 20 ns (Nordstrom, 1995), focused in an area of 0.1 mm2 over a high purity polycrystalline Zirconium surface. This is accomplished by an optical system coupled to a monochromator, with a 0.1 Å resolution power, by detecting the visible and ultraviolet radiation for Zr I and Zr II. For the transition a2 H4.5 y2 G3.5 0, measurements are performed at different distances with respect to the impact area, to determine the Doppler and Stark effects dependence on the laser fluency (J/cm2). The Zr II ions velocity is determined in order to estimate the Doppler broadening effect in the fitting of the Voigt profile for the spectral line studied. In this paper, a code for simulating the Lyα line profiles by the Monte Carlo method is introduced. This code is developed on the basis of an idea given by Anne Verhamme et al. and by combining with another simulation method. For different models, the Lyα line profiles under different conditions are simulated. The simulation method of this code is given in detail, and the simulated results are discussed as well.  相似文献

Key Properties of Solar Chromospheric Line Formation Process   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The distribution or wavelength-dependence of the formation regions of frequently used solar lines, Hα,Hβ,CaIIH and CaII8542,in quiet Sun,faint and bright flares is explored in the unpolarized case.We stress four aspects characterising the property of line formation process:1) width of line formation core;2) line formation region;3)influence of the temperature minimum region; and 4) wavelength ranges within which one can obtain pure chromospheric and photospheric filtergrams.It is shown that the above four aspects depend strongly on the atmospheric physical condition and the lines used. The formation regions of all the wavelength points within a line may be continuously distributed over one depth domain or discretely distributed because of no contribution coming from the temperature minimum region, an important domain in the solar atmosphere that determines the distribution pattern of escape photons. On the other hand, the formation region of one wavelength point may cover only one height range or spread over two domains which are separated again by the temperature minimum region. Different lines may form in different regions in the quiet Sun. However, these line formation regions become closer in solar flaring regions. Finally, though the stratification of line-of-sight velocity can alter the position of the line formation core within the line band and result in the asymmetry of the line formation core about the shifted line center, it can only lead to negligible changes in the line formation region or the line formation core width. All these results can be instructive to solar filtering observations.  相似文献

We have performed a statistical study of the properties of the broadband continuum of Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) by collecting ratio,infrared, optical and X-ray continuum data from various databases and comparedthe results with control samples of Broad Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (BLSls). We findthat the fraction (~ 6%) of Radio Loud (RL) NLSls is significantly less than thatof BLS1s (~ 13%), which is caused by the lack of radio-very-loud sources in theformer. The rarity of RL NLS1s, especially radio-very-loud ones, is consistent withthe scenario of small black hole and high accretion rate for NLSls. Six new radio loudNLSls are found and five RL NLS1 candidates are presented. In comparison withthe BLS1s, the NLS1s tend to have stronger far infrared emission, cooler infraredcolors and redder B- K color, which suggests that NLS1s are hosted by dust-richernuclei. The NLS1s also show steeper soft X-ray spectrum and large soft X-rayto optical flux ratio, while a significant fraction show fiat soft X-ray spectra. Atleast two factors can account for this, absorption and spectral variability. We alsoperform a correlation analysis between various broad band data. It is found thatmost correlations identified for NLS1s are also valid for radio quiet BLS1s: (1) theoptical colors are anti-correlated with X-ray spectral index; (2) higher optical, X-ray and NIR luminosity objects show bluer optical colors and red H - K color; (3)higher luminosity objects show warmer IRAS color; (4) the radio loudness correlateswith B - K and X-ray to optical flux ratio. Radio loud objects behave somewhatdifferently in a few correlations.  相似文献
